- 0:06Speaker 3: Welcome back to the almost Famous podcast it's been here,
- 0:10Speaker 3: back with more of my great evening with Chris Harrison
- 0:14Speaker 3: and Wells Adams on City Cruises. We had an amazing
- 0:19Speaker 3: night in New York City. You Bachelor Nation fans have
- 0:23Speaker 3: the best questions, So let's dive back in to the
- 0:26Speaker 3: Q and A.
- 0:27Speaker 4: I'm so happy that there's this panel because Ben Higgens,
- 0:30Speaker 4: you were my first introduction to the Bachelor of franchise
- 0:32Speaker 4: in general. Wells you are amazing to watch on Bachelor
- 0:36Speaker 4: in Paradise and you're probably the most magnetic character on
- 0:40Speaker 4: the show. And Chris Harrison, you are the best host ever.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I do not know why they replaced you.
- 0:45Speaker 5: Thank you. Sam.
- 0:47Speaker 4: All right, two questions if I don't mind, If you
- 0:49Speaker 4: don't mind.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Well I ask anything.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Now.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You can stay up there all night. Just keep you going.
- 0:53Speaker 5: Blatter, We get you everything.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Wells, I absolutely loved you on Traders. I hate how
- 0:59Speaker 4: they did any Darty and I wish you were able
- 1:03Speaker 4: to stay for longer because you had your nail right
- 1:06Speaker 4: on the button with several people, so amazing job. Question
- 1:10Speaker 4: to all of you will you ever crash over to
- 1:12Speaker 4: another franchise or do another show.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I would do. I would do Traders in a second.
- 1:18Speaker 5: You should do it.
- 1:19Speaker 2: You should do Traders. Yeah.
- 1:21Speaker 6: I was offered a gig this last year that was awesome,
- 1:27Speaker 6: but it was right at the birth of my child,
- 1:29Speaker 6: as I say no, the.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Navy Seal show Special Forces.
- 1:39Speaker 6: Yeah, but I couldn't because my daughter was getting being
- 1:42Speaker 6: born in that time period. But I would one hundred
- 1:44Speaker 6: percent do Traders without a question.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Do do Traders over the Navy Seal things?
- 1:50Speaker 2: You just hang out in a castle, the Navy Seal.
- 1:52Speaker 5: Thing, you get hurt.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, like jumping off a helicopters.
- 1:55Speaker 5: And for me, I've been asked. I was asked to
- 1:58Speaker 5: do Traders. I was asked to do the Navy Seal
- 2:02Speaker 5: thing Special Forces. You know, I love hosting and I
- 2:07Speaker 5: would host it and I would produce it. And that's
- 2:11Speaker 5: that's my jam. I love. I love producing and hosting.
- 2:13Speaker 5: I like being on that side of the camera.
- 2:15Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Okay, hold on, I would do one, and I would
- 2:19Speaker 1: do with one of these guys, and that is the
- 2:22Speaker 1: amazing race.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Can we do teams of three? Did they stop and
- 2:29Speaker 5: play golf? They're six hours behind. They're drinking at the bar.
- 2:34Speaker 1: They show the map, We're still in Augusta and everyone
- 2:37Speaker 1: else's why are they.
- 2:38Speaker 5: In Scotland at Saint Andrews. We're going But no. And
- 2:43Speaker 5: one thing I have done, I've done a few of them.
- 2:44Speaker 5: And I just went and did name that tune. I
- 2:47Speaker 5: think it's coming up maybe next week it's on. I
- 2:50Speaker 5: did Wheel of Fortune and stuff. I still all those
- 2:53Speaker 5: things that like the game show type stuff where you
- 2:55Speaker 5: can donate a lot of stuff to charity, and I
- 2:57Speaker 5: can talk about experience camps, which is really big to
- 2:59Speaker 5: my wife and I. Anytime I can kind of promote
- 3:02Speaker 5: that that stuff that's important to us, I'll do it
- 3:04Speaker 5: all the time.
- 3:05Speaker 6: Well, and I think I'm gonna put you on the
- 3:07Speaker 6: spot because I think is there ever a chance that
- 3:11Speaker 6: we could watch you on television again as a host?
- 3:14Speaker 5: Yes, for sure. Yes, there's a which goes back to
- 3:20Speaker 5: the other question of would you ever go back? I
- 3:22Speaker 5: would not go back, but I will go forward. Let's
- 3:25Speaker 5: go and hopefully between all of us. And I know
- 3:29Speaker 5: there's no content creators here, Okay, magazine's not here, there's
- 3:33Speaker 5: no podcasters here, there will be a fun announcement coming
- 3:37Speaker 5: very soon. Yay, maybe too, maybe too? Wait what yeah?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Okay?
- 3:43Speaker 4: And then sex, Thank you guys so much. And then
- 3:45Speaker 4: second question in the styling of Chris Harrison, what is
- 3:49Speaker 4: your most dramatic moment on the Bachelor franchise? Maybe off camera,
- 3:54Speaker 4: on camera and yeah, your thoughts about it?
- 3:58Speaker 5: You know what, in honor of my friend say it.
- 4:04Speaker 5: She's nothing if not timely. There's so many moments, honestly,
- 4:09Speaker 5: over twenty years, there's so many moments that were on camera,
- 4:14Speaker 5: off camera that happened. Some my my favorite moments was
- 4:19Speaker 5: just getting to know and getting to hang with some
- 4:20Speaker 5: of these guys. You know, I remember beyond the Brownie
- 4:23Speaker 5: Man that we visited in Jamaica, going over to Ben's
- 4:26Speaker 5: house and just hanging out watching football one day when
- 4:29Speaker 5: I know he was spinning and we just got to
- 4:31Speaker 5: hang and talk. I relished those moments, and you know,
- 4:35Speaker 5: jogging on the beach with whether it was Nick val
- 4:38Speaker 5: or Jordan Rodgers or whoever. Those those moments I really
- 4:41Speaker 5: enjoy and getting to know these people. But there was
- 4:44Speaker 5: a moment with one Pablo and so it was after
- 4:52Speaker 5: the Claire incident, and I think we were in Vietnam
- 4:56Speaker 5: and they went I was they hooked up when skinny
- 4:59Speaker 5: dipping whatever did and he kind of shamed her for it.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Oh fuck, sister, you're telling me it was dark out.
- 5:11Speaker 5: Who knows what happened.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I do.
- 5:14Speaker 5: I was under the water with a snorkel part of
- 5:17Speaker 5: my job. But no, So he was shaming her, and
- 5:21Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, this is not gonna go. Well, you
- 5:25Speaker 5: should know what our demographic is. They're not gonna love
- 5:28Speaker 5: you shaming her for something you did. And so off camera,
- 5:32Speaker 5: we were going into the road ceremony that night, we're
- 5:34Speaker 5: about to have the cocktail party. We're all dressed up
- 5:36Speaker 5: and getting dressed and we're walking out. Say hey, Wan, Pablo,
- 5:39Speaker 5: come here, but my arm around himus. Hey, Bud. So
- 5:42Speaker 5: that incident that happened and the way it ended you
- 5:45Speaker 5: kind of and maybe you didn't mean to do this.
- 5:47Speaker 5: I know there's a kind of the translation barrier going
- 5:50Speaker 5: on here. Maybe you didn't mean to, but you made
- 5:53Speaker 5: her feel really bad in that moment. Being a gentleman,
- 5:57Speaker 5: I think maybe you should have a talk with her tonight,
- 6:00Speaker 5: maybe go straight to her and just say hey, I'm sorry.
- 6:03Speaker 5: I was just as much of that moment as you were.
- 6:06Speaker 5: It's not on you. It was not on you, and
- 6:08Speaker 5: it was just as much on me. I was a
- 6:10Speaker 5: consenting adult in that moment, and that might help. This
- 6:15Speaker 5: is when I knew that show went off the rails
- 6:19Speaker 5: because he went third person and he says, Chris, Chris,
- 6:25Speaker 5: if you want Juan Pablo, you get Juan Pablo. And
- 6:31Speaker 5: I said, oh boy, and I said, you know, third
- 6:36Speaker 5: person aside, this isn't going to go well for you.
- 6:41Speaker 5: And then I I this journey you're on, I cannot
- 6:45Speaker 5: go with you. And that was the first time we
- 6:47Speaker 5: ever kind of had to take a side with our
- 6:49Speaker 5: bachelor who was our hero, which usually we would just
- 6:52Speaker 5: defend to the end because you know, look, they all
- 6:55Speaker 5: make mistakes. We try and fix it because not everybody's perfect.
- 6:58Speaker 5: But when Juan Pablo is no, no, I stand by
- 7:01Speaker 5: that decision. I would like to guys, well I'm going
- 7:03Speaker 5: to go here and you go there. And that's the
- 7:06Speaker 5: way the show went. So was it the most dramatic.
- 7:11Speaker 5: The other most dramatic was probably the Jake Vienna interview.
- 7:15Speaker 5: Late at night we.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Talk about that we were at the mansion.
- 7:18Speaker 5: It was really late. We'd been shooting some other stuff.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Sometimes we would shoot host wraps, you know, my little
- 7:23Speaker 5: stuff on camera. We wouldn't do it while everybody's there,
- 7:25Speaker 5: so they could light the mansion. We'd have the jib
- 7:27Speaker 5: camera and all that, so we'd be shooting. And we
- 7:30Speaker 5: did that one night till probably like twelve twelve thirty.
- 7:32Speaker 5: They said afterwards, about one in the morning, Jake and
- 7:36Speaker 5: Vienna are going to come here. We're going to shoot
- 7:37Speaker 5: with them. So from like one to three in the morning,
- 7:41Speaker 5: we would shoot that interview. So they come in and
- 7:44Speaker 5: what my goal was was to they were broken up.
- 7:49Speaker 5: That was done, but my and it had been kind
- 7:51Speaker 5: of contentious, but I wanted it to be kind of
- 7:54Speaker 5: an amicable breakup. Let's have this moment of my bad mind.
- 8:00Speaker 5: I own my partner this, you own your part in this.
- 8:03Speaker 5: Let's go our separate ways and we can all be adults.
- 8:07Speaker 5: And has everybody seen the movie The Perfect Storm. There's
- 8:11Speaker 5: a moment in The Perfect Storm when they make it
- 8:15Speaker 5: and all of a sudden, the sun comes out and
- 8:18Speaker 5: it's like they're gonna live. George Clooney and Marky Mark
- 8:22Speaker 5: are gonna make it. This is awesome. That's what happened
- 8:25Speaker 5: in that interview. I got them to a moment I
- 8:27Speaker 5: don't know if you guys remember it, maybe they didn't
- 8:29Speaker 5: even show it, where they kind of both bought into
- 8:32Speaker 5: what I was taking them too. I was kind of
- 8:34Speaker 5: leading them to this moment of Okay, we can all
- 8:37Speaker 5: just be adults and be friends and let's go our
- 8:39Speaker 5: separate ways. And I had it. And then you realize
- 8:43Speaker 5: that was just the eye of the storm and they
- 8:46Speaker 5: had to go through the other side and they were
- 8:48Speaker 5: all gonna die. That was that interview. There was a
- 8:52Speaker 5: moment and I had it, and the sun came out.
- 8:54Speaker 5: I'm like, damn, I'm a good host. This is great,
- 8:57Speaker 5: and then it wasn't. Yes, ma'am. That was the theme
- 9:03Speaker 5: song for that season. Thank you?
- 9:05Speaker 2: What is happening right now?
- 9:09Speaker 5: I want what she's on? Yes. So in that interview
- 9:13Speaker 5: went really poorly, and so here's the thing. Honestly, the
- 9:17Speaker 5: real story is that interview was never gonna be aired.
- 9:21Speaker 5: We were never gonna I walked into the control room
- 9:23Speaker 5: after it all melted down. You all saw what happened,
- 9:26Speaker 5: and my executive producers were like, no, this is never
- 9:29Speaker 5: going to see the light of day. Don't worry about it.
- 9:31Speaker 5: I'm driving home at two thirty three in the morning,
- 9:34Speaker 5: I get a call from what I see as an
- 9:35Speaker 5: ABC executive, and this executive says, Chris, did something happen
- 9:41Speaker 5: that night? Did Jake make a fist or was he
- 9:45Speaker 5: physically imposing? And I said absolutely not.
- 9:50Speaker 2: No.
- 9:51Speaker 5: I'm like, if I wouldn't have punched him in the
- 9:54Speaker 5: face and killed him, Big Polly was right there, who
- 9:57Speaker 5: was an army ranger, he would have ended his life.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Zero chance it got physical, There was no any of that,
- 10:03Speaker 5: but she stormed off. That did happen, and somehow that
- 10:09Speaker 5: got leaked. There was only us. How that got leaked.
- 10:14Speaker 5: I don't know. It was not me, but somebody at
- 10:17Speaker 5: ABC wanted that out there so we would have to
- 10:19Speaker 5: show that interview, which we did because it was good TV,
- 10:22Speaker 5: but that was never meant to air. But we once
- 10:25Speaker 5: we realized that story got out, we felt like we
- 10:27Speaker 5: had to own it. We wanted everybody to see for themselves, unedited,
- 10:31Speaker 5: this is what happened, and I agreed with that decision.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Thank you so much, guys. You guys are all amazing.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 10:49Speaker 7: I want to start by saying, thank you guys so
- 10:52Speaker 7: much for doing this.
- 10:53Speaker 5: This has been incredible.
- 10:54Speaker 7: Sure so thank you.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 10:57Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 10:59Speaker 7: So, first of all, Wells, I really would love a
- 11:03Speaker 7: handshaken margarita made by yours truly in just a couple
- 11:07Speaker 7: of minutes. That would be great.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I can do that, but I'm going to direct terrible
- 11:11Speaker 2: by the way.
- 11:12Speaker 7: No, I'm sure they're awesome. I like them spicy though,
- 11:15Speaker 7: as long as that's okay.
- 11:16Speaker 5: That's the only way Wells comes okay. Perfect.
- 11:20Speaker 7: So my questions were Chris Harrison, and.
- 11:22Speaker 5: I think you for using my full proper name. Yes,
- 11:26Speaker 5: my wife still says it's my full name sometimes, which
- 11:29Speaker 5: is really weird. I'm not your but also sexy. No
- 11:32Speaker 5: you're not. But most people when they just see me,
- 11:35Speaker 5: they do use my full name. And I think it's
- 11:37Speaker 5: just because you know what they do with me too.
- 11:39Speaker 7: Maybe we're sole me.
- 11:40Speaker 2: It's maybe have you ever thought about it? Though?
- 11:42Speaker 1: It's always very interesting on the show, it's always Ben
- 11:44Speaker 1: or it's Lauren, Ah, it's Chris Harrison.
- 11:48Speaker 2: He's the one who gets and even.
- 11:50Speaker 1: For me, it's when you see me on the titles,
- 11:53Speaker 1: se it's just Wells, but the host it is always
- 11:57Speaker 1: by your name.
- 11:58Speaker 5: But yeah, sorry, we digress.
- 12:00Speaker 7: Yes, so my question is besides being at the TCU
- 12:06Speaker 7: tailgates and doing lots and lots of shotguns.
- 12:11Speaker 5: What the heck is next for you?
- 12:13Speaker 2: I'm ready for the next show.
- 12:15Speaker 8: What's going on?
- 12:16Speaker 5: First of all, go frogs. Both my kids went to TCU.
- 12:20Speaker 5: My daughter's a senior there and all my money goes there.
- 12:24Speaker 5: So now I root for TCU. But what's next for
- 12:28Speaker 5: me and for my beautiful wife Lauren. So we have
- 12:31Speaker 5: a production company in Austin, Texas, where we're living out
- 12:34Speaker 5: our life and loving life in Austin, and also where
- 12:37Speaker 5: we got married and where these two gentlemen spoke at
- 12:40Speaker 5: our wedding, which is how much I love them, is
- 12:43Speaker 5: that there was two people out of this show and
- 12:45Speaker 5: we had a lot of friends there and that was Oh,
- 12:48Speaker 5: I will get back to your question. But one of
- 12:51Speaker 5: my favorite nights of my wedding beyond the wedding night,
- 12:54Speaker 5: but there was the night before we invited. Thank you
- 12:58Speaker 5: for getting that. The night before I had all of
- 13:02Speaker 5: my bachelor family that I had loved and gotten to
- 13:05Speaker 5: know throughout the years. They came to our house and
- 13:07Speaker 5: Laura and I had them because Lauren, if you guys
- 13:09Speaker 5: don't know, my beautiful wife was in entertainment tonight, Roses
- 13:12Speaker 5: and Rose shout out seriously the talent of our family
- 13:18Speaker 5: by far. But she covered the show and that's how
- 13:21Speaker 5: we met. So again, I have a lot to be
- 13:22Speaker 5: grateful for, including the love of my life from this show,
- 13:26Speaker 5: because we met while she was interviewing. She actually she
- 13:30Speaker 5: met these guys first passed on them. Thank god. No,
- 13:34Speaker 5: but and that's that's when. That's when we met. But
- 13:37Speaker 5: we have a production company. I love television. I truly
- 13:40Speaker 5: love hosting. I love producing TV, and that will be
- 13:44Speaker 5: my future.
- 13:46Speaker 7: I will what it will be.
- 13:47Speaker 5: What it will be, You'll have to wait to find out.
- 13:51Speaker 7: I will say that the show has not been the
- 13:53Speaker 7: same since you left.
- 13:55Speaker 5: Thank you very much. I do appreciate it. I I
- 13:58Speaker 5: really do. The love and the and then the love
- 14:00Speaker 5: I get online is not lost on me. I very
- 14:02Speaker 5: much appreciate it very much.
- 14:05Speaker 9: Yes, ma'am, Hi, my name is Mary Beth. Then I
- 14:10Speaker 9: just wanted to say that this is the first time.
- 14:12Speaker 9: This isn't the first time we've met. Because for my
- 14:15Speaker 9: thirtieth birthday four years ago, your it is about to
- 14:18Speaker 9: get weird. My sister got me a cameo, Oh my god,
- 14:23Speaker 9: and it really touched my heart and thank you so
- 14:26Speaker 9: much for this video that I have saved forever.
- 14:28Speaker 5: Is this one that Ben's where they like he shoots
- 14:31Speaker 5: just like up, he like just was it? Was it
- 14:34Speaker 5: a cameo?
- 14:34Speaker 4: Right?
- 14:35Speaker 9: It was?
- 14:35Speaker 2: I did a yeah like a foot thing. It's not
- 14:40Speaker 2: only fans it's cameo. It's different.
- 14:43Speaker 5: His only fan site is amazing.
- 14:45Speaker 10: From the message that I got, I heard that you
- 14:48Speaker 10: were the most thoughtful and kind hearted person.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Anybody knows.
- 14:51Speaker 10: You deserve so much love and happiness on this special day.
- 14:55Speaker 10: That's something special. So Mary bad know your loved know
- 14:59Speaker 10: you're a character. From the message that I got, I.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Hear it's impossible not to love Ben. This is impossible,
- 15:09Speaker 5: so annoying.
- 15:12Speaker 2: She was very great and so I just want to
- 15:14Speaker 2: tell her she's great.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Thank you so much.
- 15:17Speaker 9: But my question to the three of you is, since
- 15:20Speaker 9: you guys went through the process of the show, I
- 15:23Speaker 9: want to know one lesson that you took with you
- 15:27Speaker 9: into this next chapter in your lives as husband's, as fathers.
- 15:32Speaker 2: What did you take from the show. It's easy for me, Okay,
- 15:34Speaker 2: go for it.
- 15:34Speaker 6: Please, Yeah, I mean I I'll say it every time,
- 15:37Speaker 6: and if you've heard me talk ever. I mean even
- 15:39Speaker 6: in the keynotes I do now this guy's mentioned. He
- 15:45Speaker 6: said one of the things uh for me and Chris,
- 15:49Speaker 6: he mentioned like us watching.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Football and all this. I think as.
- 15:52Speaker 6: Good as he was of a host, he was when
- 15:55Speaker 6: I was the lead, even better at making me feel
- 15:58Speaker 6: comfortable in a very uncommemfortable environment. And after I got
- 16:03Speaker 6: kicked off the Bachelorette, I was sitting at the bar
- 16:07Speaker 6: and he comes up. He I think had requested, Hey,
- 16:09Speaker 6: I want to have a drink with Ben. Were having
- 16:11Speaker 6: drinks in Ireland, and he said something till still to
- 16:14Speaker 6: this day that goes through my life at most decision points.
- 16:19Speaker 2: He said, Ben, this thing was awesome.
- 16:22Speaker 6: Use this to enhance the life you've already have, not
- 16:25Speaker 6: changed your life completely. And that kept me humble, It
- 16:30Speaker 6: kept me strategic, It kept me looking forward. It also,
- 16:35Speaker 6: I think what he did in that moment, it gave
- 16:36Speaker 6: me a lot of confidence in the life I already
- 16:38Speaker 6: had before this whole, wild, weird experience that is the Bachelor.
- 16:43Speaker 6: I think he knew personally that I was going to
- 16:46Speaker 6: be asked to be the bachelor.
- 16:47Speaker 2: I didn't know that yet.
- 16:48Speaker 6: And so I was sitting there in this limbo of like,
- 16:50Speaker 6: I don't know what's next for me. I'm going back
- 16:52Speaker 6: to a cubicle and that might be my life. I
- 16:55Speaker 6: think he knew that bigger things are on the horizon.
- 17:00Speaker 6: He at that moment took the time not to tell
- 17:02Speaker 6: me anything more than to settle me down and make
- 17:05Speaker 6: me really proud of the person already was. And I
- 17:08Speaker 6: think that was the biggest, one of the biggest moments
- 17:10Speaker 6: in my life.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Helloo, oh, Ben, I got a cameo later.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I mean, it is special, It is.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Very nice, and to be honest with you, as much
- 17:26Speaker 1: as I like rib him, that is totally Ben, Like
- 17:29Speaker 1: it's so genuine, it's annoying, but like he is like
- 17:33Speaker 1: the best guy all the time.
- 17:34Speaker 9: And I'm like, oh, I'm like he knows me though
- 17:38Speaker 9: he's talking to me.
- 17:40Speaker 1: For me, Like, going on the show was a risk, right,
- 17:46Speaker 1: Like I had a career, I was hosting the three
- 17:49Speaker 1: radio shows, I lived in a studio, I had a
- 17:54Speaker 1: lot going for me, and going on the show was
- 17:55Speaker 1: like this big risk, but I thought it would be
- 17:57Speaker 1: a fun adventure. And when I look back, I think
- 18:01Speaker 1: to myself, thank god I took that risk, even though
- 18:05Speaker 1: I could have looked bad. They could have edited me poorly.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I could have lost my job because of it. But
- 18:12Speaker 1: I took a risk and now look like I'm married
- 18:16Speaker 1: to like this absolutely amazing, beautiful, talented woman.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I live in Los Angeles. I'm getting to like hang
- 18:22Speaker 2: out in.
- 18:22Speaker 1: A boat with you guys, like all these things that
- 18:26Speaker 1: came from like taking a risk, and so like my
- 18:29Speaker 1: thing to you is the thing that I learned about
- 18:31Speaker 1: doing the show is that, like, sometimes you have to
- 18:33Speaker 1: bet on yourself, and when you do that, usually you win.
- 18:36Speaker 2: And so that's what I learned.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I love it.
- 18:42Speaker 5: So many things I learned over two decades of hosting
- 18:46Speaker 5: and producing the show and watching people come through my
- 18:48Speaker 5: life and be a part of my life. I think
- 18:50Speaker 5: one of the most indelible marks is that life and
- 18:55Speaker 5: people are not so black and white. I think we,
- 18:59Speaker 5: especially now, if you look at our world, we're all
- 19:01Speaker 5: so quick to judge. And when we're watching reality TV.
- 19:05Speaker 5: I noticed very early on when I started the show
- 19:07Speaker 5: back in two thousand and one, two thousand and two,
- 19:09Speaker 5: we were very quick to say, oh, she's the villain,
- 19:12Speaker 5: Oh he's a bad guy. And I quickly learned to
- 19:17Speaker 5: be curious as to why what is it that makes
- 19:21Speaker 5: this person tick, what's behind this, what is the defense mechanism?
- 19:24Speaker 5: What is the thing in their life that made them
- 19:27Speaker 5: this way? And that I think is what made me
- 19:32Speaker 5: pull for sound, made me a better host, a better producer.
- 19:35Speaker 5: Is how to listen and how to look deeper. And
- 19:38Speaker 5: so when I would go into these interviews for after
- 19:40Speaker 5: the final rows of the tell alls and stuff, that's
- 19:42Speaker 5: why I tried to give people the benefit of the
- 19:45Speaker 5: doubt and try to dig a little deeper as deposed
- 19:47Speaker 5: to just like you're bad, you were terrible and that
- 19:50Speaker 5: you know. And so, yeah, life's not so black and white.
- 19:53Speaker 5: There's a lot of gray area.
- 19:54Speaker 1: There's definitely a lot of nuance when it comes to
- 19:58Speaker 1: the people that you meet on these shows. And just
- 20:00Speaker 1: to brag on the show that I work on, Paradise,
- 20:03Speaker 1: what I love about it is it's always a redemptive story.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Right. It's a bunch of people who were all rejected.
- 20:09Speaker 1: No one really comes there if they won the show, right,
- 20:13Speaker 1: And a lot of times the villain comes and then
- 20:17Speaker 1: they turn into the hero. It happened this last season
- 20:20Speaker 1: with Brian right, he was the bad guy and then
- 20:21Speaker 1: turned into the good guy. And that's What I like
- 20:23Speaker 1: about the show too, is that you can flip your
- 20:25Speaker 1: story really really quickly. And yeah, it's it's more. People
- 20:31Speaker 1: are so much more nuanced than I think we give
- 20:33Speaker 1: them credit for Mary Beth.
- 20:34Speaker 2: You're great.
- 20:36Speaker 1: That guy.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Thanks Immy. Yes, Hi, my name is Dawn.
- 20:44Speaker 7: This question is for Wells. Me and my twin sister
- 20:47Speaker 7: are a big fan of Your Favorite Things podcast.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, have tre.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Yes.
- 20:56Speaker 7: My question for you, Wells is what's the most funniest,
- 21:01Speaker 7: strangest thing a fan has ever said to you?
- 21:04Speaker 11: Trying to lighten things up a little bit.
- 21:09Speaker 5: Why you think my thing is because and I love
- 21:12Speaker 5: this that most people answer. Most people feel like they
- 21:16Speaker 5: know me really well because I was in your house
- 21:18Speaker 5: for so long and the show the job I did,
- 21:21Speaker 5: and I do love that I liked it because we
- 21:22Speaker 5: all know actors like Sarah Hyland. For example, when you
- 21:26Speaker 5: see Sarah, you see the modern family daughter, right, and
- 21:29Speaker 5: so you when you see an actress or an actor
- 21:31Speaker 5: often you see their character. For me, it was like
- 21:34Speaker 5: I was the guy that just hosted the show. So
- 21:36Speaker 5: often I'll be sitting at it like an airport bar,
- 21:38Speaker 5: and then someone will sit next to me just start
- 21:40Speaker 5: telling me their sex life and their story and we
- 21:43Speaker 5: really get deep really quick, which I love because it
- 21:47Speaker 5: makes me feel cool. But I'm also maybe I shouldn't
- 21:49Speaker 5: hear everything, so I hear some really intimate stories.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Okay, I'll tell a story. We did a did a
- 22:00Speaker 1: live hit. I don't know if you remember this. It
- 22:02Speaker 1: was a live like audience hit and I had to
- 22:06Speaker 1: like walk through a crowd of like ravid Bachelor fans
- 22:12Speaker 1: and there was like a boom camera that came down
- 22:14Speaker 1: and I had to be like, and now we're going
- 22:16Speaker 1: out to Jojo and Toronto or something like that.
- 22:19Speaker 5: Oh that was that big the retrospective store there, Yes.
- 22:22Speaker 2: You remember it? Yeah, I was in Park City. Okay, yeah,
- 22:25Speaker 2: maybe I was throwing to you. I don't know.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Anyways, I was walking through it, and I just remember
- 22:31Speaker 1: I was walking. I had like a microphone and like
- 22:33Speaker 1: I had had a mark that I had to hit,
- 22:35Speaker 1: but there was like hundreds of people around me. So
- 22:37Speaker 1: I'm walking to my mark and while I'm walking to
- 22:40Speaker 1: my mark, someone just like grabs grabs my ass and
- 22:45Speaker 1: I'm right before I'm going on TV, and I'm like,
- 22:47Speaker 1: so it's like me going, WHOA.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Out to you?
- 22:51Speaker 1: In Toronto Jojo and it wasn't something that was something
- 22:55Speaker 1: that was said to me. But I feel like I
- 22:58Speaker 1: was violated a little bit in that moment, and that
- 23:01Speaker 1: was very weird.
- 23:02Speaker 3: I had.
- 23:03Speaker 6: I had a girl, very kind hearted human, I'm sure,
- 23:07Speaker 6: did something really weird. She wrote a letter, but she
- 23:11Speaker 6: wrote it from me to her and then she.
- 23:15Speaker 5: Read it to me.
- 23:18Speaker 2: It was yeah.
- 23:21Speaker 6: Yeah, so she read it like she read it out
- 23:25Speaker 6: loud to me in person at like an event I
- 23:28Speaker 6: was doing, and it was like high honey pie.
- 23:33Speaker 2: And it got really weird.
- 23:35Speaker 6: And I still have the letter because the restraining order.
- 23:38Speaker 5: Yeah, good call, that's evidence. That's what we call evidence.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's it.
- 23:43Speaker 5: Thank you, thank you.
- 23:56Speaker 7: Hi.
- 23:57Speaker 8: I'm Talia. I have a question, but for I just
- 24:00Speaker 8: wanted to share a quick, funny thing that my friends
- 24:02Speaker 8: and I over there. We were in high school, Ben,
- 24:05Speaker 8: you were on the show, and we had a kid
- 24:07Speaker 8: in our grade also named Ben Higgins, and he looked
- 24:10Speaker 8: just like you, and it was really funny time out.
- 24:14Speaker 2: The girls like him.
- 24:16Speaker 8: Because of you wait, hold on, time out a big
- 24:21Speaker 8: nerve time out?
- 24:22Speaker 2: Was he unlovable me? I'm six four and so handsome.
- 24:30Speaker 5: Ever, I'm the best athlete here. No one's gonna love me.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I like Ben Higgins, thank you, it was great.
- 24:39Speaker 8: I just wanted to share that. But my question is,
- 24:42Speaker 8: you guys were talking about going on the show for
- 24:43Speaker 8: the right reasons, and I was curious how you know
- 24:47Speaker 8: people actually go on the show for the right reasons,
- 24:49Speaker 8: because I find that some of the time, like that
- 24:51Speaker 8: i'm watching, I feel like people go on for a
- 24:53Speaker 8: social media following, So how can you really tell the difference.
- 24:57Speaker 5: I'll actually speak on behalf of the show in this regard.
- 25:00Speaker 5: The show was never predicated on the fact that it works,
- 25:03Speaker 5: and it was never predicated on the fact that you
- 25:05Speaker 5: are there for the right reasons. That's life. If we
- 25:08Speaker 5: all go out in New York tonight and you go
- 25:10Speaker 5: to a bar, you go wherever wherever you want to
- 25:12Speaker 5: meet somebody, go to the library, you meet somebody, And
- 25:16Speaker 5: that's part of dating is you got to figure out
- 25:18Speaker 5: is this person using me because of your looks, your
- 25:21Speaker 5: money or whatever. Are they just here for a good time.
- 25:24Speaker 5: And so that's one of the things I loved about
- 25:27Speaker 5: the show is it was just a microcosm of life
- 25:29Speaker 5: and no reference to Chad. But it's on steroids, so yes,
- 25:33Speaker 5: it's bigger, it's grander, and we're on hot air balloons
- 25:37Speaker 5: and we're in Argentina and these extravagant, extreme situations. But
- 25:43Speaker 5: the actual situation, the literal situation, is just normal. It's
- 25:47Speaker 5: just been trying to figure out does this person really
- 25:51Speaker 5: like me? Or do they just want to be on TV?
- 25:54Speaker 5: And those things have changed. When we started in two
- 25:57Speaker 5: thousand and one, two thousand and two, it was a blogger.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Now it's instant you know. Now it's social media, So
- 26:03Speaker 5: the questions have changed a little bit, but the answers
- 26:06Speaker 5: are still the same. At the end of the show,
- 26:07Speaker 5: what I've always loved is that there's a boy and
- 26:11Speaker 5: a girl and not to go you know, you know,
- 26:14Speaker 5: I'm just a girl standing in front of a boy.
- 26:16Speaker 5: But uh one of Thank You, my favorite movie. But
- 26:20Speaker 5: it really is that moment of nothing else matters is
- 26:23Speaker 5: do we love each other? And can we make this work?
- 26:26Speaker 5: That sincerity is what I've always loved.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Okay, I can answer your question for when people are
- 26:31Speaker 1: there for the right reasons because I see it every
- 26:35Speaker 1: season in Paradise and you do too, but you don't
- 26:38Speaker 1: realize it because they get cut out of the show.
- 26:42Speaker 1: You see it on the first couple days, a couple
- 26:46Speaker 1: fall in love. It happened this season with jessin Spencer,
- 26:50Speaker 1: It's happened with Joe and Serena, it happened with Dylan
- 26:54Speaker 1: and Hannah. And when that happens, it's beautiful and for
- 26:59Speaker 1: me to experience it and witness it, it's lovely.
- 27:03Speaker 5: You're left out Jade and Tanner. The best love story
- 27:06Speaker 5: that was before.
- 27:06Speaker 2: I wasn't bartending that.
- 27:09Speaker 5: Were you not there for that season?
- 27:10Speaker 2: No, that was season two. I came in season three anyway.
- 27:13Speaker 1: So but they get cut out because they are not
- 27:16Speaker 1: interesting at all because they're in love, right, So you
- 27:19Speaker 1: know the people who are there for the right reasons
- 27:22Speaker 1: by them being cut out because they are not concerned
- 27:25Speaker 1: with the drama. They're only concerned with the one thing
- 27:28Speaker 1: that's in front of them, which is love.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Don't be alarmed by these Ye are we in trouble?
- 27:33Speaker 5: Yes, the ship is lowering, it's not sinking. It's okay.
- 27:37Speaker 6: I would also I would close just add from a
- 27:40Speaker 6: lead Sae, I also think it. I think the most
- 27:43Speaker 6: beautiful fun part of the show is when it comes
- 27:46Speaker 6: to like watching the lead and cheering for the lead
- 27:48Speaker 6: is not how likable they are because the show can
- 27:51Speaker 6: make them likable. It's watching how they adapt and how
- 27:55Speaker 6: they converse in difficult situations and how they navigate those situations.
- 28:01Speaker 6: And I think during that as a lead, you can
- 28:03Speaker 6: really find out who's there for the right reasons or not.
- 28:06Speaker 6: Maybe the leads that leave somebody there for too long
- 28:08Speaker 6: that the audience is like, you're.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Not there for the right reasons. You can probably pick
- 28:12Speaker 2: up on that.
- 28:12Speaker 6: Then maybe they're not asking the right questions, maybe not
- 28:16Speaker 6: digging in for far enough.
- 28:19Speaker 5: Okay, thank you, thank you. This is the final question tonight,
- 28:25Speaker 5: when you're.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Ready, thank you.
- 28:27Speaker 11: I'm Caroline.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Hey Caroline, Caroline.
- 28:30Speaker 11: I want to know what behind the scenes. I have
- 28:32Speaker 11: a behind the scenes question. It seems like there's some
- 28:37Speaker 11: contestants or what do they call candidates contestants that unless
- 28:44Speaker 11: it's editing, you just know that they're not going to progress.
- 28:48Speaker 11: But they're great television. They're great. They're either a villain
- 28:53Speaker 11: or there's somebody who's given the other they're giving the
- 28:56Speaker 11: other women a problem, but they progress, And I wonder,
- 29:01Speaker 11: like I'll think to myself, Oh, the producers must say
- 29:04Speaker 11: to the bachelors, why don'd you keep that girl on.
- 29:07Speaker 11: Why don't you keep that girl on for another week?
- 29:09Speaker 11: For another week? Because they're great television, and I'm wondering,
- 29:13Speaker 11: is there any truth?
- 29:14Speaker 5: What do they do?
- 29:15Speaker 6: Yeah, it's brilliant and I get this question a lot,
- 29:18Speaker 6: and I think it's one of the most like brilliant
- 29:21Speaker 6: things of the show. So here's what happens. You're in
- 29:24Speaker 6: a mansion. Let's picture this, and every room is being
- 29:27Speaker 6: filmed by multiple cameras.
- 29:30Speaker 2: I am in this room.
- 29:31Speaker 6: Back behind us here you are out here fighting with
- 29:35Speaker 6: every person in the room. They don't let me out
- 29:39Speaker 6: of this room, right. They bring a girl to me.
- 29:42Speaker 6: I'm hanging out with her back there. They bring a new.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Girl to me.
- 29:45Speaker 6: And then as soon as soon as everything calms down,
- 29:47Speaker 6: then they say, hey, Ben, you can go out to
- 29:49Speaker 6: that room. You don't know, as the lead, what's happening.
- 29:53Speaker 6: They're not scripting it, they're not telling you what to do.
- 29:57Speaker 6: But they I always say, like this, they are playing
- 29:59Speaker 6: like they have the eyes of God, so they see.
- 30:02Speaker 2: What's happening every room.
- 30:03Speaker 6: If they don't want me to walk into that room
- 30:06Speaker 6: at that moment, they don't have me do that. And
- 30:07Speaker 6: then I come out and she's great she's awesome, she's
- 30:12Speaker 6: so fun, she's so enjoyable, and I keep her. Now
- 30:16Speaker 6: it's still up to me to keep her or not. Again,
- 30:18Speaker 6: it's still up to me to ask right questions or not.
- 30:20Speaker 6: It's still up to me to like really dig in.
- 30:23Speaker 6: But especially in the first few weeks, it's really hard
- 30:26Speaker 6: to figure out who the villain is. And that's not
- 30:29Speaker 6: even the question that you really want the lead asking
- 30:31Speaker 6: is being like, all right, who hears bad? They want
- 30:35Speaker 6: the lead asking who hears? Maybe for me, And so
- 30:38Speaker 6: from my perspective as the lead, I was oblivious to
- 30:42Speaker 6: any like mean girl behavior that was going on the
- 30:45Speaker 6: house because I never saw it and nobody ever told
- 30:49Speaker 6: me about it.
- 30:49Speaker 5: Well, I was very careful to walk that line of
- 30:52Speaker 5: never telling them something that they didn't see for themselves.
- 30:55Speaker 5: And that's it's very difficult because I love this guy
- 30:58Speaker 5: and I liked them immediately. We were good friends, so
- 31:00Speaker 5: it's hard not to say, hey, man, But what I
- 31:04Speaker 5: would try to do is lead him to the right conclusion.
- 31:06Speaker 5: And what I also said is you know Ben or
- 31:08Speaker 5: any other bachelor baucher, I would say, I don't want
- 31:10Speaker 5: to look stupid, I don't want to feel and I said, look,
- 31:13Speaker 5: when you get to that decision, as long as you
- 31:16Speaker 5: get there, it doesn't matter when if it's week one,
- 31:19Speaker 5: week three, week four. As long as you know you
- 31:21Speaker 5: get to the right call, that's all that matters. And
- 31:25Speaker 5: if it takes you a little longer than what the
- 31:27Speaker 5: world gets to see, because you guys get to see everything.
- 31:30Speaker 5: And so we're very careful not to tell them anything
- 31:32Speaker 5: that they didn't know or else. I'm leading them and
- 31:36Speaker 5: I'm telling them what to do, and it's not my journey,
- 31:38Speaker 5: it's it's his. So thank you very much.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Yeah, just to put a pin on it, I'm that
- 31:44Speaker 1: person that you're talking about. I got so far on
- 31:47Speaker 1: that television show and I was like, I haven't spent
- 31:50Speaker 1: any time with this girl, Like this is amazing. I'm
- 31:53Speaker 1: still I remember every Roads sermon. I was like, this
- 31:56Speaker 1: is wild. I'm still on this TV show.
- 31:58Speaker 5: Guys, we honestly just for you were there right now.
- 32:01Speaker 5: But my director's like, who is there?
- 32:03Speaker 1: But I do think that there was like they were
- 32:06Speaker 1: like Jojo, who do you like? It was like I
- 32:07Speaker 1: like Jordan, I like Robbie, I like Chase And they
- 32:09Speaker 1: were like what about Wells?
- 32:10Speaker 2: And she was like who and they're like, he.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Seems nice, he's good at interview, Let's keep him around.
- 32:15Speaker 1: And every week I was blown away that I was
- 32:17Speaker 1: still there so much so that I remember at some
- 32:21Speaker 1: point they come and they go, we're gonna do We're
- 32:23Speaker 1: doing hometowns next week.
- 32:25Speaker 2: What do you want to do? Who do you want
- 32:27Speaker 2: to invite? And I was sitting down with the producer.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I remember it vividly. His name was Louie, and he said,
- 32:33Speaker 2: what do you want to do? And I was like,
- 32:34Speaker 2: we don't need to do this. What are you talking about.
- 32:37Speaker 2: We're not going to my house.
- 32:38Speaker 5: There's no way.
- 32:40Speaker 2: I spent seventeen.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Minutes with the squirrel and he's like, no, no, no, no,
- 32:44Speaker 1: we gotta do it.
- 32:45Speaker 2: And I'm like, do you have to do it?
- 32:46Speaker 1: Because if I find out everyone else got to talk
- 32:48Speaker 1: to you about what they want to do in her
- 32:49Speaker 1: hometown and I didn't get to say that, and I
- 32:51Speaker 1: know I'm going.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Home and he was like no. I was like, I'm
- 32:57Speaker 2: going home with a sweek car high.
- 33:00Speaker 5: Thank you very much, thank.
- 33:02Speaker 9: You, and uh.
- 33:05Speaker 5: Final thoughts as we say goodbye tonight.
- 33:07Speaker 6: I mean, it's so fun to reminisce and talk about
- 33:10Speaker 6: and I mean they've said it like these dudes mean
- 33:13Speaker 6: the world to me, and and like good friendships have
- 33:15Speaker 6: been built from this show. But it's really fun to
- 33:19Speaker 6: come up here and talk about a show that has
- 33:22Speaker 6: affected our lives in so many great ways. I looked
- 33:26Speaker 6: back on my time as the Bachelor with nothing but
- 33:29Speaker 6: just excitement and joy and memories and more memories are
- 33:33Speaker 6: being made. So thank you for coming out, I guess
- 33:36Speaker 6: is my final thought, Like, thank you for being here.
- 33:41Speaker 6: It's fun for us to do this together again.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Wells, yeah, thank you guys so much for coming I'm
- 33:49Speaker 1: sorry I started with the poop story, but like whatever, it.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Was a real thing that happened.
- 33:52Speaker 5: We got we got a lot closer, a lot quicker.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Yeah, no, this was a lot of fun.
- 33:56Speaker 1: It's really it's weird because you see batster Nation on
- 34:01Speaker 1: social media and you and you talk to them or
- 34:05Speaker 1: tweet to them or whatever. But it's really really lovely
- 34:07Speaker 1: to actually meet you guys. And I've had so much
- 34:13Speaker 1: fun sitting down with these guys, but I've had more
- 34:17Speaker 1: fun getting to meet you guys these two nights, and
- 34:21Speaker 1: we do on more in San Diego, and I just
- 34:24Speaker 1: want to say thank you guys for being such awesome
- 34:27Speaker 1: fans of the dumbest TV show in the room.
- 34:31Speaker 5: I'll tell you, it's always an honor to be sitting
- 34:38Speaker 5: before you, and you know it's It's never lost on
- 34:42Speaker 5: me the amazing relationships that I have gained my two
- 34:46Speaker 5: decades on this show. But more importantly, it was such
- 34:49Speaker 5: an honor to always be the conduit, to be the
- 34:52Speaker 5: connection between you and what was going on in the show.
- 34:55Speaker 5: And I never took that lightly. I cared about these
- 34:57Speaker 5: people on the show, but I also cared about you.
- 35:00Speaker 5: I cared about the ride that you were on, and
- 35:02Speaker 5: I tried to make it special. I tried to make
- 35:04Speaker 5: it interesting, tried to make it fun, but I tried
- 35:06Speaker 5: to make it sincere and meaningful. And I love my
- 35:10Speaker 5: continued connection with all of you Bachelor Nation, and you
- 35:14Speaker 5: know this is my Bachelor family. But when I kind
- 35:16Speaker 5: of coined the phrase bachel Nation, it got kind of
- 35:18Speaker 5: bastardized and it started meeting everyone that was on the show.
- 35:21Speaker 5: It was always about you. It was always the people
- 35:23Speaker 5: that watched the show. We wouldn't be doing this, we
- 35:26Speaker 5: wouldn't be on this silly ship. We wouldn't have done
- 35:29Speaker 5: this silly show if it weren't for you, and it
- 35:33Speaker 5: moved a generation. When people come and tell me I
- 35:36Speaker 5: watched it with my daughter, or I watched it with
- 35:38Speaker 5: my mom our sisters. We all get together and we
- 35:42Speaker 5: watched this. That means the world to me. Say nothing
- 35:47Speaker 5: else of this silly show. It connected people and I
- 35:51Speaker 5: love that and so I love being here with my
- 35:53Speaker 5: friends tonight to talk to all of you. Thank you
- 35:56Speaker 5: for sharing your Sunday night. It was a tremendous ride. Unfortunately,
- 36:05Speaker 5: it's time to take a moment and say y're goodbyes. No,
- 36:11Speaker 5: you're all going home crying in the back of a limo.
- 36:15Speaker 6: Hey, can we give it up though, real quick to
- 36:17Speaker 6: the captains of the ship who brought us past.
- 36:20Speaker 5: We didn't wreck once. Yeah, y'all get home safe. Thank
- 36:25Speaker 5: you for being here. God bless y'all. Take care.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Thank you guys. We love you.
