- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm
- 0:16Speaker 1: a former Hallmark hater. On today's episode, we are discussing
- 0:19Speaker 1: The Way Home Season four, episode six, titled Yes, Sir,
- 0:22Speaker 1: that's my baby, that's my money? Is that what that's from? Hello?
- 0:26Speaker 1: My baby? Hello Mony, Hello my ragtime Gal. That's like
- 0:31Speaker 1: a WB's yeah featuring the frog. Okay, God, we're old.
- 0:40Speaker 1: This episode originally aired on the Hallmark Channel on Sunday,
- 0:43Speaker 1: May twenty fourth, and is now streaming on Hallmark Plus.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We have been loving your feedback on this series, and
- 0:52Speaker 1: you can participate in our The Way Home Mailbag episodes,
- 0:54Speaker 1: which drop on Friday mornings by emailing us hello at
- 0:58Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark dot com with your thoughts, your theories,
- 1:01Speaker 1: and your questions, or leaving us a voicemail at nine
- 1:06Speaker 1: four nine three two nine eight zero nine zero Wendy
- 1:12Speaker 1: next here a synopsis. Elliott becomes engrossed with uncovering more
- 1:18Speaker 1: of his mother's secret history and recruits Cat's help, while
- 1:22Speaker 1: Jacob reacclimates to life in Port Haven. Hey, Wendy, what
- 1:27Speaker 1: is your first impression? Of the Way Home, season four,
- 1:30Speaker 1: episode six. At this point, I am convinced that the
- 1:34Speaker 1: writers listen to our show, because when Tessa says to Cat,
- 1:38Speaker 1: look what you've done now, it immediately activated my inner
- 1:42Speaker 1: Steve Erkle. I literally said out loud, Yeah, My first
- 1:50Speaker 1: impression is Yep, there we go. Okay, here we go.
- 2:03Speaker 1: We're going to start with the least clown related topics. Okay,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and that's Alice on her last day is spending some
- 2:10Speaker 1: time with Max. Can I start by saying, I'm sorry,
- 2:13Speaker 1: what Alice is leaving already? Well, it's almost the end
- 2:16Speaker 1: of summer ish former episodes at least, I mean, I guess,
- 2:20Speaker 1: but how much time has actually passed? Sometime has obviously
- 2:24Speaker 1: passed between this episode and the previous one because Dell
- 2:28Speaker 1: is recovered and on the Men she's not under concussion
- 2:32Speaker 1: protocol anymore. Yes, it just feels like this snuck up
- 2:35Speaker 1: on me. And because this is only episode six, it
- 2:37Speaker 1: feels like such an obvious fake out, because no way
- 2:40Speaker 1: is Alice actually leaving before the season is over. It
- 2:42Speaker 1: was saying going anywhere nine, I'm oh, well, actually she might.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I don't know if she's not going to go to
- 2:49Speaker 1: college at this point she needs to be in poort
- 2:51Speaker 1: Haven for the next few episodes. Of course. Yes, Oh
- 2:55Speaker 1: so I wonder what the pace of the last couple
- 2:58Speaker 1: episodes are going to be. Then I think we're going
- 3:00Speaker 1: to end at the end of summer. Okay, I want
- 3:03Speaker 1: to talk about this Alice and Max last day before
- 3:05Speaker 1: college okay situation. Actually no, let me rewind that. When
- 3:09Speaker 1: we get the shot of Alice in her bedroom and
- 3:11Speaker 1: it is full of stings, she's going to take the college,
- 3:13Speaker 1: I was like, they are listening to us. Did we
- 3:17Speaker 1: not reference like the Wuzoo fan of course earlier this season.
- 3:22Speaker 1: It's only because we're in this stage of life. You
- 3:24Speaker 1: did it last year. I'm sure you had like a
- 3:27Speaker 1: room full of stuff that you know, we all staged
- 3:29Speaker 1: in my garage beautifully packed. I am getting there. I
- 3:35Speaker 1: am already clearing a space in my home like that
- 3:37Speaker 1: is going to become the like staging area. I did chuckle. Yes, absolutely,
- 3:44Speaker 1: I'm glad they are showing a realistic TikTok version, yes,
- 3:49Speaker 1: of what it's like to send your kid to college.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And I loved cat. She was like, well, we're driving.
- 3:53Speaker 1: That means you could take more stuff, do we need
- 3:55Speaker 1: to go shopping, and that that really was our vibe,
- 3:57Speaker 1: like what do you need? What do you need? What
- 3:59Speaker 1: do you need? They're just just kept buying stuff. Yeah,
- 4:02Speaker 1: I can tell you haven't done it for the year.
- 4:04Speaker 1: They don't need all of it. You're gonna need to
- 4:07Speaker 1: run that stuff down for The move out was a
- 4:09Speaker 1: lot less organized than the move in. Let me tell oh, boy, gosh, guys,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I'm not ready. But I did appreciate all of that.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I did too. I did too. There was a real
- 4:19Speaker 1: digit sye that moment. In this one of these opening
- 4:22Speaker 1: packing scenes tell me more. Alice is packing for college
- 4:25Speaker 1: and we see the Queen of Cup shirt that she
- 4:26Speaker 1: wore coming back from her internship with Rachel right on top.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Didn't see it right on top? Oh, I love that
- 4:32Speaker 1: a little not. I don't think it's really that meaningful
- 4:35Speaker 1: than you know, we got the Tarot connection and all. Yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 1: but yeah, I thought it was cool. Love that, but
- 4:40Speaker 1: the whole Alice and Max. Yes, I'm struggling here, okay
- 4:46Speaker 1: with Alice and Max because it's they are telling us
- 4:49Speaker 1: that Alex and Max had become super close during the
- 4:52Speaker 1: school year. Obviously, the show takes place during the summer months. Right,
- 4:58Speaker 1: we didn't see a whole senior school year of them
- 5:02Speaker 1: becoming closer. We're only being told like, oh, you were
- 5:06Speaker 1: my tutor and we became such good friends, and this
- 5:09Speaker 1: whole love triangle thing happened between Max, Alice and Noah.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I know, it's not really a love triangle, but maybe
- 5:15Speaker 1: Max is in love with Alice almost said Noah, max
- 5:19Speaker 1: is in love, but Alex make it a triangle. No
- 5:22Speaker 1: I know, but like she's not like playing them both.
- 5:27Speaker 1: That's I agree, okay anyway, but we haven't seen any
- 5:31Speaker 1: of that, so it it makes it less weighty to
- 5:36Speaker 1: me when they have this like, let's go and do
- 5:39Speaker 1: all these things that we've done all year long, Like
- 5:43Speaker 1: you know, it's like Survivor. When in the last episodes,
- 5:46Speaker 1: when they go and revisit all all the moments they've
- 5:50Speaker 1: had shared together, they need to tell us the story
- 5:54Speaker 1: that they've told us happened, and they tell it through
- 5:57Speaker 1: exposition of their memories. It doesn't work for me, Hair,
- 6:01Speaker 1: It's not as impactful for me seeing it happen, but
- 6:05Speaker 1: it does send the message to the audience we are
- 6:09Speaker 1: to believe these two have this relationship. All the stories
- 6:13Speaker 1: they're telling we didn't see them playing chess. We didn't
- 6:16Speaker 1: see any of that. It would have been better if
- 6:18Speaker 1: we could have gotten some actual visions instead of here's
- 6:22Speaker 1: where we studied. If it was a memory of them
- 6:24Speaker 1: like sprawled out in sweats with like papers all around
- 6:27Speaker 1: them and their laptops on their laps, agree, and the
- 6:29Speaker 1: vision of them like in the park playing chess and
- 6:32Speaker 1: Max being like checkmate, right, that would have been the showing,
- 6:36Speaker 1: not telling that we want Yes, without that, we have
- 6:42Speaker 1: painted the picture. I think, whether effectively or not, these
- 6:47Speaker 1: two developed a friendship over the past year. That's obviously
- 6:50Speaker 1: the entire purpose for this day. Before they leave on
- 6:53Speaker 1: their scavenger hunt, there's a funny moment in this scene
- 6:55Speaker 1: that reminds me that Jacob is kind of new. He's
- 6:58Speaker 1: like new to the time period. He's like, I might
- 7:00Speaker 1: like to see New York for myself, because Thomas spoke
- 7:02Speaker 1: about it in his cadence and the old timiness sound
- 7:06Speaker 1: of his voice just was amusing to me. It was
- 7:08Speaker 1: a reminder that he's not of this time. And Alice
- 7:11Speaker 1: was like, I think maybe it's changed a little bit. Yeah,
- 7:13Speaker 1: I thought it was sweet. I thought I was sweet too.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I want to talk about Alice's really brief interaction with Casey,
- 7:23Speaker 1: which yes, I only gets Casey again yes, which I
- 7:27Speaker 1: think is what makes Alice spiral a little bit at
- 7:32Speaker 1: the end. Sure, Casey tells Alice trust her gut. Then
- 7:38Speaker 1: Alice and Max are talking, and she decides that her
- 7:41Speaker 1: gut is telling her New York is not for you
- 7:44Speaker 1: right now and tells Max, I'm not going What did
- 7:47Speaker 1: you think about Max's reaction? That was going to be
- 7:50Speaker 1: my exact question to you, so I thought it was
- 7:55Speaker 1: unnecessarily mean me too. First of all, he calls Noah
- 7:59Speaker 1: the Fritter franchise king twice. Yes, and Noah's his friend.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And I understand that Max has these unrequited feelings for Alice,
- 8:07Speaker 1: or maybe not so unrequited, because Alice is clearly she
- 8:10Speaker 1: doesn't seem spun up solely about leaving for college because
- 8:14Speaker 1: she's talking to Casey, and Alice says, I'm trying to
- 8:17Speaker 1: figure out what's going on with me and Max. Clearly
- 8:21Speaker 1: Alice recognizes that there's something at play here, and she
- 8:24Speaker 1: doesn't put a name to it. So he says, like,
- 8:27Speaker 1: I'm so disappointed in you, and you're going to live
- 8:29Speaker 1: your small life in a small town. And I just
- 8:32Speaker 1: thought that's so unfair because he's missed a step. He
- 8:38Speaker 1: didn't say, Okay, then what do you want to do?
- 8:41Speaker 1: He just assumes she's not going to New York. Therefore
- 8:44Speaker 1: she's going to stay here and work at the point
- 8:46Speaker 1: for the rest of her life. But let me take
- 8:47Speaker 1: that one step further. Is it possible Max is thinking
- 8:51Speaker 1: she's going to stay here and then be with Noah? Sure?
- 8:54Speaker 1: So do you think he's worried that her staying in
- 8:57Speaker 1: poor Haven will then lead to Noah and or there
- 9:00Speaker 1: from him? Sure? But right, I don't know if that's
- 9:03Speaker 1: the motivation or not. I don't no idea. I don't either,
- 9:05Speaker 1: because he says we were supposed to do this together separately,
- 9:09Speaker 1: like they were both moving forward even if they couldn't
- 9:11Speaker 1: be together, they were both moving on the same path
- 9:13Speaker 1: in theory, And yeah, that does take her away from Noah.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I don't know what I want to assume about Max, Like,
- 9:21Speaker 1: is he fully altruistic and he just wants the best
- 9:24Speaker 1: for her? Or is there a part of him that's like, well,
- 9:26Speaker 1: what I happen to think is the best for her
- 9:28Speaker 1: also happens to be the best for me too. But
- 9:32Speaker 1: I thought, I'm so disappointed in you. Was so unfair
- 9:35Speaker 1: because I also thought I get that Alice might feel
- 9:39Speaker 1: I'm not ready to do this. Fine, that's terrifying as
- 9:43Speaker 1: the parent of a kid that age, because my next
- 9:45Speaker 1: question would be like, okay, then what are you going
- 9:47Speaker 1: to do? Yeah, because you got to do something right.
- 9:50Speaker 1: So I feel like it was unfair for him to
- 9:53Speaker 1: make that giant leap. I think there was a way
- 9:56Speaker 1: he could have pushed her to think about her future
- 9:59Speaker 1: in a way that wasn't so condemning. Yes to meaning
- 10:03Speaker 1: great word, My next question for you. In the scene
- 10:07Speaker 1: where Alice want she turns and says, I'm I'm gonna
- 10:10Speaker 1: walk home, and he's like, no, let me take you home.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It's not safe. Yeah, Do you think there's anything there? When?
- 10:19Speaker 1: Is Port Haven not safe? Or is it just not
- 10:22Speaker 1: safe to walk? You know, Colton was hit by a
- 10:25Speaker 1: car on those roads. I know, so I noticed that too,
- 10:29Speaker 1: and maybe it's just a maybe you shouldn't be walking
- 10:32Speaker 1: home in the dark on these countryish roads. The thing
- 10:35Speaker 1: I noticed about that scene, though, is when he insists
- 10:37Speaker 1: on driving her home, there's a small moment where he
- 10:40Speaker 1: appears to start to be walking to open her door,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and she just waves him off. And to me, that
- 10:44Speaker 1: sets up so much about their relationship, like, Hey, that's
- 10:48Speaker 1: who he is, Like I'm Madie, but I'm still going
- 10:49Speaker 1: to open your door and be She knew exactly what
- 10:52Speaker 1: he was doing because it must be something he does
- 10:54Speaker 1: all the time, right, I thought it was a nice
- 10:56Speaker 1: little moment there. It's the same. I think that's it.
- 10:58Speaker 1: On my thoughts about Alice's Trajeck, I'm really curious if
- 11:01Speaker 1: she had any thoughts beyond well it's not New York,
- 11:04Speaker 1: because I'm thinking, well, maybe it does make sense for
- 11:07Speaker 1: her to go to Toronto with Max, because I don't
- 11:09Speaker 1: think it makes sense for her to stay in Port Haven,
- 11:11Speaker 1: although Colton did and he lived a life that he
- 11:14Speaker 1: was proud of, so and I don't think there's any
- 11:17Speaker 1: shame in living a quote small light. I don't think
- 11:20Speaker 1: so either. And if she's not ready to leave, she's
- 11:24Speaker 1: not ready to leave.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Yeah, Well let's talk about Cat and Elliott and their
- 11:29Speaker 1: time traveling trip. Okay, first, I want to say, Cat,
- 11:32Speaker 1: your kids leaving in a day, and you're really going
- 11:33Speaker 1: to jump in the pond, Like is this wise decision making. Well,
- 11:36Speaker 1: that's why is Alice supposed to be leaving In the
- 11:39Speaker 1: next day, Kat says, my kids, I'm driving my kid
- 11:42Speaker 1: to college in two days. When she's talking about it
- 11:44Speaker 1: was oh, yes, okay. I thought the Laurel I Gilmour
- 11:49Speaker 1: would be spent it all day with Rory right packing
- 11:52Speaker 1: her up and driving around to get her last minute
- 11:53Speaker 1: supplies and doing there, let's have our our last milkshake.
- 11:57Speaker 1: At the point I thought most were so we're well,
- 12:02Speaker 1: especially dangerous to going to a time where she knows
- 12:06Speaker 1: she is in danger there and what if she got
- 12:10Speaker 1: caught there in prison? Yeah? Boy, cut operating, she asks
- 12:16Speaker 1: before she thinks she's way too impulsive. She thinks she's
- 12:20Speaker 1: doing good and she really MUCKs it all up every
- 12:24Speaker 1: single time. When is she going to learn her lesson?
- 12:27Speaker 1: Not in this episode? God, it's so frustrating. Francisco way
- 12:32Speaker 1: in friends send us an email. I can just see
- 12:35Speaker 1: Francisco at the end of this episode being like, no,
- 12:38Speaker 1: what are you seriously? So Elliott is lying to Cat.
- 12:45Speaker 1: He has not told her of his investigating and he
- 12:50Speaker 1: is a man on a mission. We see him and
- 12:51Speaker 1: he's like his eyes are wide excessively right. His eyes
- 12:55Speaker 1: are wild when he's looking at those newspapers and he's
- 12:58Speaker 1: making photo copies, and it seems like he's discovered something,
- 13:01Speaker 1: although that never plays out. It never plays out because
- 13:04Speaker 1: kat is the one who shows up and she's like
- 13:07Speaker 1: Madam Futura or whatever her name is, uh huh, Contessa
- 13:11Speaker 1: and then they see it, says and he's like, Knantessa
- 13:13Speaker 1: for Tura, that's Auntie Coop. She was at the right
- 13:16Speaker 1: all everyone from episode one feels vindicated that Tessa was
- 13:22Speaker 1: the fortune teller in that first episode. So whatever Elliot
- 13:26Speaker 1: had discovered when his eyes got real wide and it was,
- 13:30Speaker 1: we don't learn what it is. No. Also, perhaps related
- 13:34Speaker 1: to that, before they jump, Elliot's like, no matter what happens,
- 13:36Speaker 1: you take care of yourself, and she's like, I'm not
- 13:38Speaker 1: gonna do that, and you think back to our listener mailbag,
- 13:40Speaker 1: episode Listener pointed out Elliott is in danger in the past.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Whether or not he goes to the past, his future
- 13:48Speaker 1: is in danger. Something happens to the Augie Boys. Mm hmmm,
- 13:52Speaker 1: something happens to Elliott while he's there, So maybe one
- 13:55Speaker 1: of the papers says something about the the Augie Boys
- 13:59Speaker 1: maybe it was maybe you know, and he's like, oh, man, like,
- 14:03Speaker 1: if that happens, then that's going to change my future.
- 14:07Speaker 1: So maybe he feels like but it has already happened. Yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 1: I know, And this is where my brain hurts on things.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Did you find that the circus had ominous vibes when
- 14:17Speaker 1: they arrived, Yeah, a little bit, especially some of the
- 14:20Speaker 1: some of the elements of the circus they showed, like
- 14:24Speaker 1: the fire breathing characters of the circus, like yeah, and
- 14:29Speaker 1: a creepy yeah.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:30Speaker 1: They weren't leaning fun clown. They were leaning a little
- 14:32Speaker 1: bit creepy clown. And the music was incredibly ominous. Yeah,
- 14:36Speaker 1: here's what I thought was interesting when they first bought
- 14:38Speaker 1: the Augie Boys with Grayson Cat calls them by their names,
- 14:42Speaker 1: and Elliot's like, this is brand new information. That's my
- 14:45Speaker 1: great grandfather. Why are we acting so they're Augustine's of
- 14:49Speaker 1: course they're related to you. Yeah, I don't understand why
- 14:51Speaker 1: he was so surprised. Yeah, duh, I mean, I guess
- 14:54Speaker 1: it's weird seeing them, But you didn't say little Mo,
- 14:59Speaker 1: that's my great grandfather, Well Mo, which I thought was
- 15:04Speaker 1: the little guy, but it was actually the bigger guy's name,
- 15:06Speaker 1: Little Moue and the little ones Percy. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 1: Elliott is somebody wrote in our mail bag about how
- 15:18Speaker 1: the writers change Elliott to serve the narrative of the story. Yeah,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and I do see that in this episode, because he
- 15:27Speaker 1: is acting so emotional and reckless, like running after well.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I guess you know, he was like, oh, watch the
- 15:36Speaker 1: Augie Boys and you go and find Tessa and then
- 15:40Speaker 1: he gets in a fight, which the fight scene I
- 15:42Speaker 1: did enjoy a little bit because you know, Elliott's like
- 15:46Speaker 1: I knocked him out, like he was excited about it.
- 15:49Speaker 1: But this whole Elliott stuff was so interesting to me
- 15:54Speaker 1: in this episode. I think so too. He's many different
- 15:57Speaker 1: people to me. I loved his little right hook. Thought
- 16:00Speaker 1: it was funny and he's like, oh, poor Elliott. I'm sorry.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Evan Williams, Okay, there's a lot going on in this
- 16:09Speaker 1: time period. There's a lot to cover. There's a lot
- 16:11Speaker 1: to cover. So Fern and Grayson and Cliff, we're really establishing,
- 16:16Speaker 1: like the Cliff flirtation moment of it all, Like Cliff
- 16:19Speaker 1: comes in and does like the strong man bell when
- 16:21Speaker 1: Grayson couldn't do it, and Farn seems to be openly
- 16:24Speaker 1: flirting with Cliff in front of Grayson, and there's one
- 16:27Speaker 1: point where Grayson's like, oh, take care of her, and
- 16:29Speaker 1: she puts her arm through Cliff purpose. So on purpose,
- 16:33Speaker 1: ferns in on on the distraction, that's my takeaway of it.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Good point, Yeah, the distraction happening down at the cove.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Good point. Yeah, Like she's oh, oh that was so sweet.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Oh you need to take care of me, you know.
- 16:50Speaker 1: She I think, realizes that Cliff is into her, and
- 16:53Speaker 1: so she plays up to it. Then she can distract
- 16:54Speaker 1: him and then Grayson can do whatever. Yeah that makes
- 16:58Speaker 1: a lot of sense. Whatever, that makes a lot of sense,
- 17:00Speaker 1: Thank you. I like the fortune telling scene in the tent.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I like the staging of it. I like that all
- 17:05Speaker 1: of our players are there. I like that there's lots
- 17:06Speaker 1: of extra ten crowd. It's tense, Cliffs kind of pacing
- 17:12Speaker 1: in the background. I find Cliff amusing. Elliott is reacting
- 17:16Speaker 1: with these big facial reactions the entire time, and and
- 17:19Speaker 1: of course a cat bumbles herself on stage.
- 17:22Speaker 2: She's like, this is what I'm talking about, Like, she's
- 17:26Speaker 2: driving me crazy, and she's like, we have to get
- 17:32Speaker 2: in front of in front of everybody, a little more subtle.
- 17:37Speaker 1: My gosh, I have here from the future. No freaking finesse,
- 17:41Speaker 1: can't there's no finesse. You are right, You're so right,
- 17:46Speaker 1: You're so right. And then there's there's something so on
- 17:49Speaker 1: the nose scenes Tessa is like, I see much danger
- 17:51Speaker 1: in your life. You'll visit many lands yet remain in
- 17:54Speaker 1: one place. Curious. Yeah, and then of course Grace and
- 18:00Speaker 1: being like, hmmm, poor Haven. She'll have a festival and
- 18:03Speaker 1: I shall be in the fall to extend the season,
- 18:05Speaker 1: and we'll call it the Fall. I just was like, kay, yeah, okay.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Before we talk about the end of their time there,
- 18:11Speaker 1: I want you to talk about some of your did
- 18:13Speaker 1: you see that moments from this time? No, no, okay,
- 18:17Speaker 1: literally watching this and I send Meghan, did you go whoa? Yes?
- 18:24Speaker 1: In this I'm sure I'm not the only one to
- 18:26Speaker 1: see it, But Megan did not see it. No, I
- 18:27Speaker 1: did not, And I watched this twice. So when Kat
- 18:30Speaker 1: and Elliott arrive at the circus and they stop and
- 18:33Speaker 1: they watch the fire breather behind her. Behind her is
- 18:39Speaker 1: advertisement for the Great Calvert and his disappearing coins. Y'all.
- 18:48Speaker 1: It is Sam who is featured on this poster. It's cartoony,
- 18:53Speaker 1: but it is Sam. Yes, And they show it not once,
- 18:56Speaker 1: not twice, but three or four times. When Kat runs
- 19:02Speaker 1: after the woman in the red cloak, she turns around,
- 19:04Speaker 1: she's in front of that same It's a poster like
- 19:07Speaker 1: an advertisement. That's all I can think about. A billboard.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I sent Meg and a text. I was like, oh
- 19:11Speaker 1: my god, that's Sam. I sent you like three pictures
- 19:14Speaker 1: because it was obvious to me. It looks like Sam.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Like the guy has white hair like Sam. And I
- 19:18Speaker 1: can't remember when Sam came onto the show, if it
- 19:20Speaker 1: was season two or season three. Do you recall the coins?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Is it the season two finale? Because he's there before
- 19:28Speaker 1: Jacob comes home? Okay, they talk at the dinner table.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Somebody brings up something about coins and he's like, what coins.
- 19:36Speaker 1: This is the confirmation that I needed that Sam is
- 19:39Speaker 1: a player in this. I mean, obviously, I think I
- 19:42Speaker 1: suspected because that time where he sees them at the
- 19:44Speaker 1: poll and he has this weird smirk and like he's
- 19:47Speaker 1: there and he's not there, and how this is going
- 19:50Speaker 1: to unfold, I don't know, but I want to know
- 19:54Speaker 1: if anybody else caught it, and I have pictures. I'm
- 19:57Speaker 1: going to put him in our show notes. Fy John
- 20:00Speaker 1: Calvert serves as the primary series producer. Is that how
- 20:04Speaker 1: they use that name? Oh, that's funny, he's a producer
- 20:07Speaker 1: on that I had I was trying to I know
- 20:09Speaker 1: you had looked. I also looked to see if there
- 20:12Speaker 1: was any connection in names Calvert with Sam's name, which
- 20:16Speaker 1: is Sam Bishop. And then it had me thinking, I
- 20:19Speaker 1: know we had talked in previous seasons about the name
- 20:22Speaker 1: Bishop and chess. You said from last season I think
- 20:27Speaker 1: it was last season. They found a chess piece, Max
- 20:32Speaker 1: Evi's right, Uh huh. They find a white Bishop chess
- 20:36Speaker 1: piece and an old cell phone, remember, and the cell
- 20:39Speaker 1: phone was did Casey tell them it was theirs? I
- 20:43Speaker 1: can't remember about the cell phone, but I just thought
- 20:47Speaker 1: it was so interesting that we had a chess talk
- 20:50Speaker 1: in this episode. Yeah, and we arrived with Max and
- 20:54Speaker 1: Alice and their chess. Yes. So maybe I'm a clown.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know either, But this this
- 21:05Speaker 1: element of the show ends with the ultimate did I
- 21:07Speaker 1: do that moment? Yes, where they have this realization. Cat
- 21:11Speaker 1: flashes back, She's like, it's a distraction. The circus is
- 21:14Speaker 1: a distraction there. The shipment is going right now out
- 21:17Speaker 1: of the cove and they run down and they see
- 21:19Speaker 1: the Augie Boys and they see Tessa, and we hear
- 21:22Speaker 1: them talk about Capone. They say Capone's gonna love you.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Cat spots Tessa and has absolutely no chill stop running
- 21:31Speaker 1: out of the trees. Then they call Tessa boss and
- 21:35Speaker 1: Kat's boss. Tessa levels her gun at Cat and then Elliott,
- 21:40Speaker 1: for the second time in the episode, plays the hero
- 21:41Speaker 1: and he's like, no, no, Mom, it's me. It's Elliott.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'm your son. Tessa gives a nod to Little Mo
- 21:49Speaker 1: and Little Mo wax it Elliott on the back of it.
- 21:52Speaker 1: He gets clocked on the head. Then feed to Black,
- 21:54Speaker 1: you're right. So she knows Elliott, her son is standing
- 21:58Speaker 1: in front of her and has him taken out. It
- 22:00Speaker 1: hasn't knocked out. Yeah, So is that another distraction where
- 22:07Speaker 1: she's trying to get the Augie Boys off of her scent?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Is she really a bad guy or is she like,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I gotta protect Elliott if they know who he is,
- 22:16Speaker 1: I gotta pretend like I want to get him out
- 22:18Speaker 1: of here too. You know, that's a good question. Because
- 22:22Speaker 1: in my mind, I'm like, well, Tessa's bad. Yeah, but
- 22:26Speaker 1: maybe you're right, maybe this is just a distraction. Like
- 22:29Speaker 1: she's like, Okay, well, I got to act. I'm going
- 22:31Speaker 1: to protect Elliott here because the Augie boys could hurt him.
- 22:36Speaker 1: So I don't know. I guess that was kind of
- 22:40Speaker 1: didn't see that coming of Tessa being the boss. Uh huh.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I didn't see it coming at all. I don't know
- 22:46Speaker 1: how I feel about it. I don't either. I don't either.
- 22:49Speaker 1: But I am just trying to go along for the
- 22:51Speaker 1: ride right now. I am trying to enjoy the ride.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Let's take a quick break and we're going to come
- 22:56Speaker 1: right back to continue discussing the way home. Let's talk
- 23:07Speaker 1: about Dell and Stormy again. Our girl Stormy got four
- 23:09Speaker 1: scenes in this episode. Four four horse scenes. Stormy is
- 23:12Speaker 1: a male horse, Okay, our guy Stormy, My dude's Stormy.
- 23:17Speaker 1: You're right, she calls him boy. Got four scenes. Stormy
- 23:21Speaker 1: is a storytelling tool here. We need to understand. Stormy
- 23:26Speaker 1: is a metaphor for Jacob. Yes, she's trying to make
- 23:32Speaker 1: herself okay with the idea that Jacob may not be
- 23:36Speaker 1: here to stay throughout this episode and I think she
- 23:40Speaker 1: does that by continuing to put it out there that
- 23:44Speaker 1: she understands that he might not be staying, and she
- 23:46Speaker 1: kind of does it like she says to Jacob like,
- 23:49Speaker 1: I don't want you training the horse. I don't want
- 23:50Speaker 1: him getting attached to you, and then you leave again,
- 23:52Speaker 1: and what's that going to do to him? That was
- 23:54Speaker 1: season one, Dell. She was mean. Yes, I thought she
- 23:57Speaker 1: was really mean. And then she in talking with Alice
- 24:01Speaker 1: earlier in the episode, Alice is like, you know, Jacob's
- 24:06Speaker 1: just back. I don't know if I'm ready to leave you,
- 24:07Speaker 1: and Belle's like, who knows how? That's how long that's
- 24:10Speaker 1: gonna last? And I feel like she puts it out
- 24:12Speaker 1: there in a joking way, almost to just build up
- 24:14Speaker 1: this armor, Like the more she says Jacob might leave,
- 24:17Speaker 1: the more likely she is to be okay with it
- 24:19Speaker 1: when it happens. And then, of course, at one point
- 24:22Speaker 1: while training Stormy, she says, don't you leave me too? Yeah.
- 24:26Speaker 1: I think this is really kind of the emotional thesis
- 24:30Speaker 1: of the entire episode of like, don't leave me, don't
- 24:33Speaker 1: it's focused at the horse, but it's really about Jacob.
- 24:38Speaker 1: M h. Yeah, Maybe if she can get Stormy to
- 24:40Speaker 1: come back to her, or maybe it's like I just
- 24:42Speaker 1: got to hold onto something, like I'm losing everything. I
- 24:45Speaker 1: did look up the term joining up, because she says
- 24:48Speaker 1: to Jacob, I tried to get him to join up
- 24:51Speaker 1: like my writing instructure, Tommy, And it's exactly what she
- 24:54Speaker 1: was doing. You get them to move around the ring,
- 24:56Speaker 1: you change directions, and then you stop and wait for
- 24:58Speaker 1: the horse to come to you to build trust with
- 25:00Speaker 1: the trainer. I think the horse people might enjoy that.
- 25:04Speaker 1: It's kind of crazy, how like Stormy charges at her
- 25:07Speaker 1: at one point. It was a little scary. Yeah, I'm
- 25:09Speaker 1: not doing much these past two episodes to assuage your
- 25:12Speaker 1: fears of horses, oh mine. Yeah, now, I'm like, hmm,
- 25:15Speaker 1: I'm not afraid of horses. But it's not working. The
- 25:18Speaker 1: cinematic music did swell as Stormy joins Dell in the
- 25:20Speaker 1: center of the rank. Yeah, I was sweet. It was
- 25:22Speaker 1: a nice moment for Dell, and then Dell and Jacob
- 25:27Speaker 1: have the nice moment at the end that kind of
- 25:29Speaker 1: mirrors in Jacob's like, I'm you know, we'll get to
- 25:34Speaker 1: Jacob's decision and how he comes to his decision, but
- 25:37Speaker 1: at the end like he's like, I'm here, I'm here,
- 25:41Speaker 1: I'm here. So gives her a little bit of peace. Well,
- 25:44Speaker 1: let's talk about Jacob, all right. First let's talk about Danny.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Danny is so suspicious to me, and I don't know
- 25:53Speaker 1: is that purposeful? It's got to be purposeful, right, I
- 25:57Speaker 1: assume First of all, I was wondering, like, where's Danny.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Let me remind myself, Danny's working at Goodwin's good wine vineyard, right, Yeah,
- 26:06Speaker 1: the vineyard that Jacob tried to burn down. Correct? And
- 26:09Speaker 1: then Jacob goes over there and he's like, hey, I'm
- 26:11Speaker 1: back in town, like, I'm here to help you. Why
- 26:14Speaker 1: would they ever all out with Jacob? That's what I
- 26:16Speaker 1: thought too, he said, I thought I might. I want
- 26:18Speaker 1: to get my hand thirty jump back into things. Do
- 26:21Speaker 1: you think they're gonna let you back in Goodwin's vineyard? Right?
- 26:24Speaker 1: Danny seems hesitant the entire conversation. The vibes are off. Now.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I think Danny is only here just as a reminder
- 26:34Speaker 1: that Danny exists. Okay, because Jacob in this early scene
- 26:40Speaker 1: back at home, he makes several comments about how he's
- 26:42Speaker 1: not sure how long will be here. I don't know
- 26:44Speaker 1: what my future plans are, and he and Kat at
- 26:47Speaker 1: the kitchen table. Jacob's asks like, why did you let
- 26:50Speaker 1: the threatening letters drop? And Kay's like, well, that was
- 26:53Speaker 1: mom's doing. But she's like, insertingly enough, they just they
- 26:56Speaker 1: stopped after you left. I think the only reason Dany
- 27:00Speaker 1: these heroes to remind us like, oh, we're a little
- 27:01Speaker 1: suspicious of Danny. Danny has a typewriter. Oh, these threatening
- 27:04Speaker 1: letters were here. That's weird. What's going on? I think
- 27:08Speaker 1: that's the purpose Danny service. I think Kat is always
- 27:11Speaker 1: pursuing the wrong things. She should have pursued the letters
- 27:15Speaker 1: over and I think it's so many. He's like, I
- 27:17Speaker 1: thought you were this great investigator. I know some shady shit.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Brothers and sisters sadie each other.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:25Speaker 1: We talked about Jacob running into Alice at the point,
- 27:30Speaker 1: and while Jacob is there, he sees Casey out the window,
- 27:33Speaker 1: and while he's chasing off after them, he runs into
- 27:37Speaker 1: miss old school Abby Abby. Pretty coincidental cate fate maybe
- 27:44Speaker 1: or a sign. Okay, When Jacob and Abby tell each other, oh,
- 27:48Speaker 1: our families are home from here, mine too. It is
- 27:50Speaker 1: the world's largest omission that neither of them says, who's
- 27:54Speaker 1: your family? I know, but I didn't even like clock it,
- 27:58Speaker 1: not at all. He was like eight people I know,
- 28:01Speaker 1: and we have three main families. I just thought, Hello,
- 28:04Speaker 1: obviously she's gonna be from We're gonna have beef. Did
- 28:07Speaker 1: we know that Max had an older sister? I don't know.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I wasn't saying we should have made the connection. I
- 28:12Speaker 1: just thought, oh, it's my sister. Oh you're that landry
- 28:15Speaker 1: you're trying to burn to hown my dad's worm. Oh
- 28:17Speaker 1: you're a goodwin. Okay, I mean fine. I just was like, yeah,
- 28:21Speaker 1: I know, I understand. Okay. Jacobren's it to Casey in
- 28:24Speaker 1: the barn, Yes, and Casey's like, I don't know what
- 28:27Speaker 1: I'm doing here. I tried to go home and the
- 28:28Speaker 1: pond wouldn't let me. I'm trying to figure it out.
- 28:30Speaker 1: In this moment, Abby arrives, and Abby and Jacob have
- 28:34Speaker 1: a conversation through the window and Casey disappears. Does this
- 28:40Speaker 1: give you any indication or any thoughts about who Casey
- 28:45Speaker 1: is in relation to Jacob and Abby. To me, it
- 28:48Speaker 1: screams that Casey is the child of Abby and Jacob.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I think so too. Yeah, because Casey was not able
- 28:55Speaker 1: to leave after telling Alice follow your gut, because Casey goes, yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 1: maybe that's it. I'll go try and jump back in
- 29:01Speaker 1: the pond, and then Casey's still there. So then Casey
- 29:06Speaker 1: tells Jacob what does a name matter in the end,
- 29:08Speaker 1: and Jacob says, so you're not a good Win. And
- 29:11Speaker 1: then that's when Abby shows up. No, they're a Landry,
- 29:15Speaker 1: Casey Landry. They are a good Win. Yeah, a good
- 29:19Speaker 1: with Landry. Yeah, yes, I think so. I think that.
- 29:24Speaker 1: To me, it felt like, oh, this is okay. Yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 1: I don't mind that. I don't mind Casey being the
- 29:32Speaker 1: child of these two. Oh no, me neither. I did
- 29:35Speaker 1: have this thought though, while watching this scene, the two
- 29:40Speaker 1: interactions Casey with Alice Casey with Jacob. This is the
- 29:43Speaker 1: most open a time traveler has been. Yeah, i'man from
- 29:47Speaker 1: the past, right, So we have Casey obviously from the future,
- 29:52Speaker 1: time traveling to the past. Why do any of our
- 29:56Speaker 1: current twenty twenty six time travelers never have? They're not
- 30:02Speaker 1: be so open? Cat and Fern, Yes, yes, but they're
- 30:05Speaker 1: only open with other time travelers. Casey is open with
- 30:10Speaker 1: Jacob and Alice, who are both time traveler. Okay, but
- 30:13Speaker 1: Colton was a time traveler. Yes, and they could have
- 30:16Speaker 1: been open with Colton. Yes, and ultimately they are. But yes, yes, yes,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I just thought it was interesting. I think it's interesting
- 30:27Speaker 1: too once Casey was discovered, because I think Alice is
- 30:30Speaker 1: the one, like I know you're a time traveler, I
- 30:32Speaker 1: know you're jumping in the pond. Perhaps Casey was left
- 30:36Speaker 1: with no choice. I think if Colton had confronted Alice
- 30:38Speaker 1: in the past and then like, I know who you are,
- 30:41Speaker 1: maybe that would have been a differen since. Yes, anyway,
- 30:44Speaker 1: I have one more comment about this scene. Yes, slightly
- 30:47Speaker 1: tangentially related. Jacob goes to tell Dell that he's decided
- 30:52Speaker 1: to stay, and he says, my battle is not without
- 30:57Speaker 1: but within. I gotta deal with this myself doesn't have
- 31:02Speaker 1: anything to do with the external. Yes. It reminds me
- 31:06Speaker 1: of a line, okay, from one of my favorite movies,
- 31:08Speaker 1: Oh Ten Things I Hate About You Okay, where the
- 31:11Speaker 1: character of Patrick Verona, who interestingly enough, is named after
- 31:14Speaker 1: a Shakespeare character played by Heath Ledger, talking to Kat
- 31:17Speaker 1: played by Julius Styles, Cat but by Julius Styles, and
- 31:22Speaker 1: Kat's like everybody loves Bianca, like Beyonca's you know, she's
- 31:25Speaker 1: so pretty and she's so popular, and she's like so
- 31:27Speaker 1: whatever classically, and Patrick says to her, she's without and
- 31:31Speaker 1: that has stuck with me, like she's not all that,
- 31:33Speaker 1: Like you're the unique, interesting one that I'm into. I've
- 31:36Speaker 1: never heard someone use without as an adjective, that's all.
- 31:41Speaker 1: So Jacob's gonna stick her around. He'll stick around and
- 31:44Speaker 1: let fate happen. And evidently Abby's gonna stick around to apparently,
- 31:49Speaker 1: So yeah, I don't. I don't hate those two together. No,
- 31:52Speaker 1: I like it, but I got four episodes, so no,
- 31:56Speaker 1: But I was like, well, I don't believe in fate,
- 31:58Speaker 1: but I do believe in sign. I was like, it's
- 32:00Speaker 1: the same thing. Yeah, exactly exactly. I do have one thought,
- 32:06Speaker 1: at what point does trying to fix the past become
- 32:11Speaker 1: an inability to accept life as it happens. I can't
- 32:16Speaker 1: help but think about this because Cat is always trying,
- 32:19Speaker 1: like she's most addicted to fixing things. Yes, And we
- 32:23Speaker 1: hear Fern tel Cat time and time again like this
- 32:27Speaker 1: season like not everything is yours to fix? So is
- 32:32Speaker 1: this where the series ends? The Landry is just deciding
- 32:36Speaker 1: we're done We're just gonna let life happen as it is,
- 32:39Speaker 1: hopefully with the resolution of the Tessa story. Yes, because
- 32:45Speaker 1: I understand Jacob was a mystery that needed to be solved.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Tessa is a mystery that needs to be solved. Alice's
- 32:51Speaker 1: time traveling is more. I've made these connections and I
- 32:53Speaker 1: don't want to leave them behind. These are people who
- 32:55Speaker 1: deserve my time. Like you said, she and Alice, Cat
- 32:58Speaker 1: and Alice travel for different I would kind of like
- 33:02Speaker 1: to see them be done. Me too, Me too. I
- 33:08Speaker 1: also have another question. This is what I love. But
- 33:10Speaker 1: here's the thing. We know we're not done because Casey
- 33:14Speaker 1: is traveling from the future. Yes, but that doesn't mean
- 33:17Speaker 1: that Cat and Alice have to travel. Sure. Yes, hopefully
- 33:21Speaker 1: Cat and Alice are a rap on time travel. The
- 33:23Speaker 1: legacy of time travel with the Landrys can continue. Yes, yes, yes,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you want our current players to be done. When do
- 33:29Speaker 1: they decide we don't need to go back and like
- 33:33Speaker 1: fix every little thing I'm envisioning, like middle aged Alice
- 33:39Speaker 1: making one last jump and it's too Evelyn in her
- 33:43Speaker 1: last day, oh okay, and she can say, look at
- 33:47Speaker 1: the wonderful life I built with your grandson Max, I
- 33:51Speaker 1: need you to explain to me, like a five year old,
- 33:58Speaker 1: the math on Tessa's age. I need to understand how
- 34:05Speaker 1: old she was when she left and what year she left,
- 34:07Speaker 1: and then where did she go and get stuck because
- 34:09Speaker 1: she's aging in real time. Yeah, in nineteen twenty five,
- 34:14Speaker 1: she's probably Dell's age seventy ish, right, mm hmm. She's
- 34:18Speaker 1: been gone for how long? So I just need to know, like,
- 34:21Speaker 1: where did she go back to that she has been
- 34:24Speaker 1: able to age. We discussed it eighteen and why that year?
- 34:30Speaker 1: Why did they go to that year? Well, that's where
- 34:34Speaker 1: the pun sent them. We don't know that. I need
- 34:36Speaker 1: some explanation on that. Yeah, So there's no explanation on
- 34:39Speaker 1: why they went to that year other than that it
- 34:41Speaker 1: was forty two years and they were it's Tessa and somebody.
- 34:47Speaker 1: We don't know Tessa and who but it is? Do
- 34:50Speaker 1: we know for sure? Griffin? We don't know for sure
- 34:53Speaker 1: for sure? We're operating under that assumption. Yeah. So I
- 34:57Speaker 1: was just like, it's so complicated to me. I'm having
- 35:01Speaker 1: the hardest time wrapping my head around it. I think
- 35:05Speaker 1: Tessa's story is as we understand it. There, Listener, Mailbag
- 35:09Speaker 1: did posit that Tessa is from the future nineteen eighty three,
- 35:14Speaker 1: wasn't her present time? I don't know, but I think
- 35:16Speaker 1: if you accept the story as we've been given it,
- 35:19Speaker 1: Tessa was in her early twenties in nineteen eighty three,
- 35:23Speaker 1: jumped back to the eighteen hundreds, and then just lived
- 35:25Speaker 1: the next forty two years. Correct, I'm trying to figure
- 35:28Speaker 1: out the year that she jumped to. Yeah, we don't
- 35:30Speaker 1: know what the rivence is there. We don't know anything
- 35:32Speaker 1: about the relevance at that time. Okay at all? All right,
- 35:37Speaker 1: we still got to know what the heck is going
- 35:38Speaker 1: on with Sam. We still need to know who Casey is.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Is that a rap on the horse? Is not a
- 35:43Speaker 1: rap on the horse? What's the five win? In four
- 35:46Speaker 1: came out? Is Tessa truly good? Is Tessa truly bad?
- 35:52Speaker 1: Where were they in the beginning of episode one in
- 35:56Speaker 1: the future? There are so many questions?
- 35:58Speaker 2: Right?
- 35:58Speaker 1: So many? How many we have four episodes to go.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I was glad to see Casey return, and in fact,
- 36:05Speaker 1: I saw Von Murray's name in the opening credit. I
