SPEAKER_00: Uh so when I well, first of all, I couldn't believe that Jackie said yes to this trip, frankly, because you come with some baggage about D23.

SPEAKER_00: We don't have a lot of time.

SPEAKER_03: Well, to sum up, anybody who has been there in the past will remember that it was just kind of chaos.

SPEAKER_03: Lines upon lines upon lines.

SPEAKER_02: Pre-pandemic.

SPEAKER_03: Yes, because we haven't been back before then.

SPEAKER_03: But you would wait in this huge queue hoping to make it, you know, into one of the panels, and then you would they'd go, Well, this happened to us, but you are assured because we're cutting the line off here.

SPEAKER_03: We're sure you're gonna get in.

SPEAKER_03: And then we didn't get in.

SPEAKER_03: And just stuff like that happened constantly.

SPEAKER_03: There was, you know, people were rude, and it wasn't Disney people, I think it was like conventions, right?

SPEAKER_00: So consequently, of course, Jackie had banned all D23s except for Destination D23, which she enjoyed much more back in 2023.

SPEAKER_03: But then you also told me that this was going to be an experience that was more close to what we had experienced.

SPEAKER_00: I know this is a controversial topic, but in the end, would you say it was much closer?

SPEAKER_00: Well, it it was much better than it was in the going back to when I said this is happening the week after we're done in New Mexico, can we go?

SPEAKER_03: My first thought was how much is this gonna cost?

SPEAKER_00: So so money aside, as is always my philosophy, uh yeah, what what what pushed you over the edge to say yes?

SPEAKER_03: And then especially when you said that Kimberly might go with, I was like, this would be a really amazing trip.

SPEAKER_00: All right, because yes, I I received word that for the first time in my awareness, and I'm fairly aware, first time in forever.

SPEAKER_00: Thanks, Anna, uh, that uh charter members actually had pre-sale by 24 hours.

SPEAKER_00: And I knew I could get up to six tickets.

SPEAKER_00: So when I put out after Jackie said yes, and I put out there to several of our friends and to Tristan and to you, Kimberly, and even to our friend Tia across the ocean, I was like, I can get up to six tickets.

SPEAKER_00: But what did you think when I said, Do you want to go?

SPEAKER_00: So as a first-time attendee slash goer, what uh how did you find?

SPEAKER_00: I know you were feeling a little overwhelmed in the beginning.

SPEAKER_01: I was super overwhelmed.

SPEAKER_00: Talk about what that was like as somebody who'd never been.

SPEAKER_01: Well, if the actual first, first part of it, I mean, like you gave us like here's how much it's gonna be.

SPEAKER_01: And of course, being Disneyland, I didn't know anything about the um like like where to stay or you know, any of that.

SPEAKER_00: So you were which is why you have a great travel agent.

SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01: Um, so but I mean, like you were so helpful in all of that, but just in general, like like needing to um put in for which panels we wanted to go to.

SPEAKER_01: We did, and and like like there were there was just so many details, and I didn't know how to do any of it.

SPEAKER_01: And for a person who has literally spent her life going to Disney World, and and and I use a travel agent because I always say better you on the phone with them than me.

SPEAKER_01: But I mean, I know what I want, I know where I'm going, I know what I'm doing.

SPEAKER_01: I didn't know anything, and I just felt so overwhelmed and kind of lost.

SPEAKER_01: Well, and if I hadn't had you, who is well, a a travel agent, but b done this stuff before, I honestly don't know if I would have gotten anything that I needed.

SPEAKER_00: Well, I will say because back as Jackie referenced before, when we were going to this thing, and I think we determined we had been to two.

SPEAKER_00: Yes, we went to 2011, the second D23 ever, with my mom.

SPEAKER_00: And then you and I went back in 2017.

SPEAKER_00: Uh, and so we had done it twice, but this was the first time, and part of what I was selling Jackie on with this whole idea of, you know, you don't necessarily have to go and sit in lines and not know if you're gonna get in because the RRS, RSD, I there's too many initials.

SPEAKER_00: It's something about the reserve reservations.

SPEAKER_00: It was totally by lottery.

SPEAKER_00: It was, but you got to input your own choices.

SPEAKER_00: I sent both of you like the and said, what's on your list?

SPEAKER_00: Kimberly sent back a very thorough list.

SPEAKER_00: Jackie was like, if you want to go, I'll go.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah, is basically what it boiled down to.

SPEAKER_00: Uh, but so Kimberly, you put together a very fine curated list.

SPEAKER_00: And then I sort of combined those things on everybody's wish list and and created a strategy because uh ahead of time you got to select up to four panels each day that you wanted.

SPEAKER_00: So we had a total of 12 that we could request.

SPEAKER_00: I requested a couple of things on two different people's because we really wanted them.

SPEAKER_01: Um and there were additional things on my list that were like like if I didn't get this, then this also looked interesting.

SPEAKER_01: So I did have some essentially some honorable mentions or whatever.

SPEAKER_01: I knew that that we weren't gonna get everything, but I thought I'd put down anything that I thought looked interesting, and then that way, you know.

SPEAKER_00: And Tristan and I discussed this in previous episodes, but I was actually pretty surprised, especially when I started reading online, how many people had gotten like next to nothing.

SPEAKER_00: Or because yeah, I don't want to jinx it for the next time, but I got three, you got three, Kimberly, and Jackie got two.

SPEAKER_00: And of those eight, only one was a duplicate.

SPEAKER_00: Jackie and Kimberly both got uh world builders, the Leslie IWorks thing, which I really wanted to attend.

SPEAKER_00: Uh and in the end, we needed that because our friend Brett came with us.

SPEAKER_00: Well, I yes, but I was like, do we include D23 Day at Disneyland, or will we include that in our Disneyland podcast?

SPEAKER_03: I think all that needs to be said about it is that it was bananas, and I think that the cast members were glad that D23 day was over.

SPEAKER_01: All right, we'll discuss that a little more in a and then we can discuss that then, but I did get some super, super cute, amazing, wonderful photo pass photos of myself today while I waited for the five years.

SPEAKER_00: Friday, the first day of D23, the ultimate fan expo, the ultimate fan event.

SPEAKER_00: I'm always gonna call it the expo because that's what it is.

SPEAKER_00: So, so Friday, and the first thing I'll say about Friday is we didn't go right away.

SPEAKER_00: Which I think saved us a little heartache of trying to get in the building the first day.

SPEAKER_00: Sounds like it was cuckoo, cuckoo bananas bonkers.

SPEAKER_03: We saw some pictures and it was like people were captioning it.

SPEAKER_00: And the and the reason we decided to skip the morning, even though it meant missing the Beauty and the Beast 35th anniversary panel, which we watched last night on Disney Plus, because it's on there.

SPEAKER_00: And so it was almost as good as being there, but we skipped it to do the Walk in Waltz footsteps tour, which we will certainly cover in our Disneyland episode, and I think was well worth it.

SPEAKER_00: But we finished at Disneyland and headed to the convention center.

SPEAKER_00: And what were your first impressions, Kimberly?

SPEAKER_01: Um, well, when we first got there, and of course you go through security and they check your badges and all that kind of fun stuff.

SPEAKER_01: Um because we didn't get there until what was it like one o'clock?

SPEAKER_01: One o'clock.

SPEAKER_01: Um, it was pretty like it there weren't like a ton of people like standing around or anything.

SPEAKER_00: You know, so it wasn't cuckoo bonkers.

SPEAKER_00: I which is uh maybe a good drag name.

SPEAKER_01: Um and we had a panel at, I believe it was two o'clock or two thirty, something like that.

SPEAKER_01: So we had a couple of hours and we were like, okay, let's uh let's just kind of walk around.

SPEAKER_00: We stopped by the Walt Disney World Radio booth where our friend Lou was chatting with someone.

SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he was in the middle of a podcast.

SPEAKER_01: So um I took a really creepy selfie with him behind me, but you know, it counts.

SPEAKER_01: I got a pick a picture with Lou.

SPEAKER_01: Um and uh so we stopped by there and um We signed the quilts at the We signed the quilts in Marceline.

SPEAKER_01: That was very, very cool.

SPEAKER_00: And I discussed with them that I would be seeing them in a month when I go on the D23 event in Marceline.

SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then we went through the archive exhibit, which I actually really enjoyed because they had a ton and ton and ton of stuff of the Muppets, and I loved that.

SPEAKER_01: Like seeing Rizzo's little costume when he pretends to be, you know, Mickey Mickey from um, you know, from the the show in Hollywood Studios, and there's a little Kermit there with a little banjo and costumes, and I just really, really thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit.

SPEAKER_01: Um, so those were the we got to look at a lot of the exhibits, again, though, kind of going back to Jackie and the last time you guys were at D23, had insane lines, or you had to be up at six o'clock in the morning to well, shopping was a thing.

SPEAKER_00: That day I actually woke up at 6.08 just on my own and looked at my watch, my phone and was like, well, maybe I should try to get a virtual cue.

SPEAKER_00: No, forget it.

SPEAKER_01: It was out.

SPEAKER_00: Yeah.

SPEAKER_01: So we didn't do any of the ones that had like crazy lines or you needed a virtual cue.

SPEAKER_01: So we kind of just sort of walked around a lot and um peeked in on things.

SPEAKER_01: I I did enjoy, I thoroughly enjoyed all of the people dressed up and doing um some Disney bounding.

SPEAKER_01: There were some amazing displays.

SPEAKER_00: So, so that first panel, because I felt a little like I'd forced it on people because you but it was not on either one of your lists, and I was like, it's it's the 20th anniversary of Enchanted, and it is one of our favorite rue drag queens, Nina West, hosting, and she is a huge Disney fan.

SPEAKER_01: Well, and that was all legit, and I fully agreed, and it was on my like honorable mention list, but it also bumped into that time.

SPEAKER_00: It said it made Kimberly uncomfortable.

SPEAKER_00: Wow because Disney said you should have an hour and a half to get to the Honda Center.

SPEAKER_00: And this was only gonna give us an hour and 15 minutes.

SPEAKER_01: And so that just made me nervous.

SPEAKER_01: But um, you know, but we also kind of talked about it and said, well, if we have to just Uber, we'll Uber, not a big deal.

SPEAKER_01: Um so it wasn't that I didn't want to go to that panel, it was just the timing of that panel that made me, you know, that I'm gonna do it.

SPEAKER_00: Once you got to that panel, what did you think?

SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, it starts off with Nina West, who is always a fun and a delight, and you know, love her also from Rue.

SPEAKER_01: Um, so it was the two of them talking about some of the the Easter eggs that you 194.

SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, like little things like this was an homage to Snow White, and this was an homage to Cinder Reddit.

SPEAKER_00: And showing screenshots of the original films and how they were trying to to mimic or honor, yeah.

SPEAKER_01: So that was all very, very cool.

SPEAKER_01: And that lasted, I don't know, maybe 10 minutes.

SPEAKER_01: And then they were like, well, you know, we really shouldn't be doing this without, you know, the star of the movie being out here.

SPEAKER_01: So they'd ring out Amy Adams.

SPEAKER_00: Who was a surprise.

SPEAKER_00: And I will say we jumped to our feet and applauded, which is when the camera came and like gotten jackies in my face that were like, look at them, look at these are great, these are great examples of Disney excited people.

SPEAKER_00: Because we actually stayed focused on the stage, and they later were like, if a camera gets in your face, make sure you don't look at the camera.

SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so the crowd went bonkers.

SPEAKER_01: Um, everybody was clapping and whooping, and you know, so then she was talking about all the Easter eggs and the different things too, and then and then it was well, you know, Susan Egan had uh had a cameo in this movie, and I guess technically it'd be a small role because actually Susan didn't wait.

SPEAKER_00: They started with Jodie Benson who has Pai Joe Hara.

SPEAKER_01: Um, so but they bring out Jodie Benson, who had a small role in the movie, and then they bring, you know, so they're bringing out all of them.

SPEAKER_01: So they're bringing out all of these Disney princesses who were in the movie to also keep talking about it.

SPEAKER_01: And then they bring out Alan Mencken, and that's when I pretty much freaking lost all of my marbles.

SPEAKER_00: Oh, let's also throw in, and I think I said this before, they threw in the curtains.

SPEAKER_00: Well, because they kept bringing out costumes and props too.

SPEAKER_00: They brought out James Marsden's prince costume, they brought out Amy Adams, like the curtains dress.

SPEAKER_00: Then they also brought out the curtains from the sound of music, just because they could.

SPEAKER_00: I I will say after that, as we quickly headed to the bus so that Kimberly wouldn't have apoplexy, uh, as we headed to the bus, I was like, that's my Disney.

SPEAKER_00: This this experience is everything you could have hoped for, in my opinion, for that first panel.

SPEAKER_01: And I thought, you know, like even to begin with, and it was like, okay, it's gonna be Nina West, it's gonna be the director, they're gonna talk about these Easter eggs.

SPEAKER_01: They're bringing out some costumes.

SPEAKER_03: Well, just getting into it was great.

SPEAKER_03: We got in the line, we waited a short time, we went inside.

SPEAKER_03: They they let in a lot of people for standby too, which I think was a thing throughout the convention.

SPEAKER_03: So yeah, and it was just, I will say that that panel just sort of like wet our appetites for the number of stars that they just kept.
