- 0:11SPEAKER_06: Welcome everyone to QuickTix.
- 0:13SPEAKER_06: So we guess it's supposed to be rated for like 40% of what's the market that tells us why CritTIC got it wrong.
- 0:19SPEAKER_06: I'm your host, Yanis Co.
- 0:21SPEAKER_06: at all this protected stuff.
- 0:23SPEAKER_06: Ten years later, the era of its way.
- 0:26SPEAKER_06: My guest today is stand up the medium and writer, Dana Donnelly.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Hi! Good to be here!
- 0:36SPEAKER_06: How are you today?
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'm good.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: I just woke up, um, just chilling.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Are you in England?
- 0:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm like, it's evening for me.
- 0:49SPEAKER_04: Have you always have you always been in England?
- 0:51SPEAKER_06: Uh, for the most part, yeah.
- 0:53SPEAKER_06: I've been I've like lived in other countries for on and off for for a I've did I did like a year in Japan, I did like six months in uh New York.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: For some reason I thought you were from New York.
- 1:04SPEAKER_06: No, no, no.
- 1:07SPEAKER_06: So was that weird when I first like came on the call and I was like speaking with a British accent then.
- 1:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was like, oh, I didn't know he's British, but now I do.
- 1:16SPEAKER_06: So Yeah, that was the reason I was like, uh, we kind of like the latest we can do is like this time.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: What time is it there?
- 1:24SPEAKER_04: Like already like 9 p.m.
- 1:26SPEAKER_06: It's 7 at the moment, so it's fine now.
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: Got it.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: Okay, cool.
- 1:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's been a whole day.
- 1:31unknown: Wow.
- 1:32SPEAKER_06: Although I did wake up about the same time as you, I think.
- 1:35SPEAKER_04: Like 11, yeah.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: This is uh my standard weekend, yeah.
- 1:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:41SPEAKER_06: So are you fully awake now?
- 1:42SPEAKER_06: Are you ready to talk about it?
- 1:44SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, I had I had two cups of coffee.
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: I'm ready to talk about, I'm ready to talk about the film, yes.
- 1:49SPEAKER_04: The film, if you can call it a film.
- 1:51SPEAKER_06: I mean, yeah, we call them films here, and then like everyone I've seen every time I see on Twitter, everyone's like making fun of people that call them films, and I'm like, well, no, that's what we say here.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: It's just like the word for it, yeah.
- 2:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:05SPEAKER_06: Well, it's not pretentious, that's what we use.
- 2:10SPEAKER_06: But you um you came on to talk about the movie Um Just My Luck.
- 2:15SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 2:16SPEAKER_06: Is a Lindsay Lohan, Chris Pine.
- 2:19SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 2:20SPEAKER_06: This is the kind of it's kind of like the beginning of the downfall of Lindsay Lohan.
- 2:26SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 2:26SPEAKER_04: I think it's her last, I think it's her last movie that wasn't like just absolutely like so bad.
- 2:32SPEAKER_04: Like it's her last coherent movie where like people were still kind of paying attention to her and people like went to go see it because they still like liked her.
- 2:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:42SPEAKER_06: And I I also wrote that it was supposed to be her transition into like from Disney to uh like more adult mainstream movies, and and then it just like completely bombed, and they were like, oh no, it bombed so hard, which I I do think it bombed a little too hard, given that I don't think it's like that bad a movie.
- 3:00SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, what did you what did you expect?
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: Like, I think like sometimes with things like this, I'm like, when they get really harshly reviewed, I'm like, but what did what do you think it's supposed to be?
- 3:11SPEAKER_06: But yeah.
- 3:12SPEAKER_06: I mean it's got 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, which wasn't expecting when you looked at it.
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, me neither.
- 3:19SPEAKER_04: Also because it's like it like it's a movie that like is like fun and entertaining and like has a coherent plot more or less.
- 3:27SPEAKER_04: I'm like that it should at least have like a like a 40 something.
- 3:31SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 3:33SPEAKER_06: You would expect that.
- 3:34SPEAKER_06: I don't know if it's just because of like because of her or because of I don't know what it is around it.
- 3:39SPEAKER_04: I think it I think it must have been her.
- 3:41SPEAKER_04: I think it like I think people hated her around that time.
- 3:44SPEAKER_04: Like I think like people like the public had started turning on her.
- 3:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 3:49SPEAKER_06: Did you read did you read anything about like like first of all, what's your history with it?
- 3:53SPEAKER_06: Uh then we'll get into it.
- 3:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:56SPEAKER_04: Um, my history with it is I saw it when it first came out.
- 3:59SPEAKER_04: What year is it?
- 4:00SPEAKER_04: Uh is it 2006?
- 4:02SPEAKER_06: Is that the yeah, 2006.
- 4:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, okay.
- 4:04SPEAKER_04: So I was I was 11 when it came out.
- 4:06SPEAKER_04: I obviously loved it because I was 11.
- 4:09SPEAKER_04: Um, and I thought Chris Pine was so cute, and I thought Lindsay Lohan was so cute, and I was obsessed with it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:15SPEAKER_04: Um, and I also just like love, I love the magical realism element of like that kind of rom-com.
- 4:21SPEAKER_04: Like I think that that is so fun.
- 4:23SPEAKER_04: And so I always liked it.
- 4:24SPEAKER_04: I never like assumed that it would be a movie that people didn't really like.
- 4:27SPEAKER_04: And then when quarantine started, my sister and I were talking about it, and my boyfriend's like, oh, that movie has like 14% on the Rotten Tomatoes.
- 4:34SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, and I was like, no way.
- 4:36SPEAKER_04: I was like, that's such a good movie, that's crazy.
- 4:38SPEAKER_04: And I took me and I was like, that's crazy.
- 4:40SPEAKER_04: And we watched it, and I still maintain that that's crazy that it has a 14%.
- 4:45SPEAKER_04: Because I rewatched it, like I rewatched it like maybe like two months ago, and I'm like, no, this is like a fine movie.
- 4:51SPEAKER_04: It's not good, but it's not bad either.
- 4:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's kind of where I'd place it as well.
- 4:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 4:57SPEAKER_06: It's like it's fine.
- 4:58SPEAKER_06: It's like I didn't and I didn't necessarily enjoy it, but like at the same time, it's not a bad, it's like not 14% bad.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's not like it's not offensive, it's not hurting anyone.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: I'm like, anyway.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: Like 14% really yeah, 14% to me, it's like it makes you like fall asleep, or like you don't really even understand what's going on.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, I think it's like a coherent movie, and we all get what's happening.
- 5:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 5:25SPEAKER_06: I mean so wait, when you first saw it, was that and then you saw it again recently, like two months ago.
- 5:32SPEAKER_06: Was that the was that the only two times you've seen it, or have you seen it like a lot of time?
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: Um, I'd seen it in between like when I was a teenager.
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: So I think like it was kind of like a movie that we'd watch it sleepover sometimes when I was like in preschool, probably.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: And it was like always a movie that I thought was good and cute.
- 5:50SPEAKER_06: That's so funny to see like the the movies that were like the high school movies around your time as well, because like when when I was sort of around that age, we were kind of watching like American Pie and Road Trip.
- 6:02SPEAKER_06: That's so funny.
- 6:03SPEAKER_06: And it's like and maybe Mean Girls was like the final one would have been like.
- 6:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was like eight when Mean Girls came out.
- 6:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 6:10SPEAKER_06: I would have been like uh 15 when Mean Girls came out.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:15SPEAKER_06: I was definitely too old for this one.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: I I get that, I totally get that.
- 6:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's definitely like I was the right I was the right age.
- 6:23SPEAKER_06: You were the right age for this.
- 6:24SPEAKER_04: I was the right age, I was like the exact right demographic for it.
- 6:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: But it's like that's what I when people like shit on these kind of movies, I'm like, okay, but you're not like appreciating them for what they are then.
- 6:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:35SPEAKER_06: That's that it's so I don't know.
- 6:38SPEAKER_06: It's it's nothing hard.
- 6:40SPEAKER_06: It's harmless.
- 6:41SPEAKER_06: It's harmless.
- 6:42SPEAKER_04: Like when you say 14%, I'm like, what did they do so wrong?
- 6:45SPEAKER_04: Like what upset you so much about this film?
- 6:49SPEAKER_04: Which is why I think it's like, what?
- 6:50SPEAKER_04: Sorry, go ahead.
- 6:51SPEAKER_06: Oh no, no, go ahead.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: No, I was gonna say, it's like the poor or the really poor reception, like that poor reception, has to be due somewhat to like Lindsay's public perception at the time.
- 7:02SPEAKER_06: Do you remember her perception at the time?
- 7:04SPEAKER_06: What when because you were 11, so were you too young to like understand it, or were you what were you fully on?
- 7:09SPEAKER_06: I think.
- 7:10SPEAKER_04: So what what was going on?
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: I I couldn't remember what was going on with her in 2006, but I like couldn't remember if it was like when she started releasing music.
- 7:18SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 7:19SPEAKER_06: I think it was around that time as well.
- 7:21SPEAKER_06: I think so.
- 7:22SPEAKER_04: I'm looking up exactly.
- 7:23SPEAKER_06: I feel like it was around that time.
- 7:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think so.
- 7:26SPEAKER_04: I think she had like started like she had started like publicly like, yeah, okay, so so that that her album was released two years before that, a year after Mean Girls came out.
- 7:36SPEAKER_04: And so I think she like she had like lost her mean girl, like I think people liked her a lot after Mean Girls.
- 7:42SPEAKER_06: And she had lost so big at that time.
- 7:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but she had like kind of lost any goodwill that had come from Mean Girls by that point.
- 7:49SPEAKER_06: Well, I'll I'll tell you something about this movie, which I was reading on IMDb.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:53SPEAKER_06: Apparently, so first of all, the worst thing about this is that she apparently her dad said that this was the um the first time she overdosed on cocaine was during the filming of this movie.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: That's so horrible, that's so funny.
- 8:07SPEAKER_06: So that was that was the worst part about this.
- 8:09SPEAKER_06: And then the second thing was that um they said the the crew that worked with her said that they've never worked with anyone as bad as as as she was on the set.
- 8:17SPEAKER_06: She was so awful to all of them, and um they would never want to work with her again.
- 8:22SPEAKER_06: And apparently she would crazy, she would like not show up a lot of the time.
- 8:26SPEAKER_06: She would call in sick all the time, just making up excuses, and then uh she wouldn't uh rehearse with anyone, so they would have to use her standing, and then she would just like join the scenes to film it, and she um would get her lines wrong, flub them and everything, and get angry at everyone around her.
- 8:42SPEAKER_04: That's crazy.
- 8:43SPEAKER_04: Okay, I can totally see that.
- 8:44SPEAKER_04: I also think like, yeah, this was the decline of her like professional reputation, too.
- 8:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:48SPEAKER_04: Because I remember around this time she was on Ugly Betty for like a couple years, or she had like a a season-long arc on Ugly Betty, and she got fired because she wasn't showing up, and the production company arc on it.
- 9:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the production company stopped wanting to insure her because they were like, We don't think that she's yeah, they're like, we don't think she's gonna keep showing up, and so we can't do this.
- 9:09SPEAKER_04: But like literally, it's when she started like developing that reputation of being just like a total nightmare and like a total monster to work with.
- 9:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and even Chris Pine said that like it was just wild shooting with someone that in the public eye was just a crazy time to shoot around that.
- 9:26SPEAKER_06: Because like he was he was on the the he was like a rising star around there, right?
- 9:30SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 9:30SPEAKER_04: Like he hadn't really done anything that big at that point.
- 9:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think the biggest thing he'd done before that was Princess Diaries 2.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Princess Dires 2, yeah.
- 9:39SPEAKER_04: Which has also been on this Oh oh I love Princess Diaries 2.
- 9:43SPEAKER_04: I'm glad you've got talked about it.
- 9:44SPEAKER_04: That's a great movie.
- 9:46SPEAKER_04: That I believe is a really good movie.
- 9:49SPEAKER_06: I talked about that with Brodie Gupta.
- 9:51SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's so funny.
- 9:52SPEAKER_04: I literally I love Princess Diaries too.
- 9:54SPEAKER_04: That's amazing.
- 9:54SPEAKER_06: I enjoyed it.
- 9:55SPEAKER_04: I got that's amazing, that's really funny.
- 9:59SPEAKER_06: But yeah, this is this like I don't know.
- 10:02SPEAKER_06: It's very strange to sit, like, I read all that and then I watched this movie because I'd never seen it before.
- 10:07SPEAKER_06: Or at least I thought I hadn't seen it before.
- 10:10SPEAKER_04: Had you not?
- 10:10SPEAKER_04: Had you seen it?
- 10:11SPEAKER_04: Had it turned off?
- 10:12SPEAKER_06: I hadn't so I'd seen like the first five minutes and not realised.
- 10:14SPEAKER_04: Got it.
- 10:15SPEAKER_06: Okay because I was watching it, I was like, I recognise this scene.
- 10:17SPEAKER_06: Like the scene where he's like picking up the dog poop with the Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:21SPEAKER_06: So I like I was like, I remember this.
- 10:23SPEAKER_06: Have I seen it?
- 10:24SPEAKER_06: And then it got to like it got to like a few more minutes in.
- 10:26SPEAKER_06: I was like, no, I haven't I haven't seen the rest of this.
- 10:27SPEAKER_06: I must have turned it off.
- 10:29SPEAKER_06: But um, yeah, it's crazy to see that, watch it, knowing like the the backstory behind this movie as well, like all of everything going on around it and seeing and like trying to work out what's happening here, like with her, and like is she is she actually in the scene or is that her stand?
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: Right, is that her stand in?
- 10:46SPEAKER_04: Like, is that even her back?
- 10:48SPEAKER_04: Like, yeah, that is so funny.
- 10:50SPEAKER_04: I mean it's it is crazy to think about like like how badly some people like want to be in movies and stuff like that, and then like to have like a child a child, a child actor who like clearly like really doesn't want to be doing this anymore.
- 11:04SPEAKER_04: Like to just like see that kind of like um yeah, like relo like the idea of calling in sick to work when your job is like being a movie star is so bizarre.
- 11:14SPEAKER_04: But I'm like, I also really do get it given like her upbringing.
- 11:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I get it with her upbringing and everything, and everything we know now.
- 11:21SPEAKER_06: I guess we didn't know as much at the time.
- 11:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 11:24SPEAKER_06: Um we kind of knew she was a child star and everything, but we didn't really know her history like the history of her parents or anything.
- 11:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think it's like although yeah, like she grew up, her dad was in jail, and like her mom was clearly like extremely exploitative, and they like had that reality show without her.
- 11:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 11:39SPEAKER_06: I I don't know.
- 11:40SPEAKER_06: I did you remember that?
- 11:42SPEAKER_06: Did you watch any yeah, I remember it.
- 11:43SPEAKER_06: I didn't watch it, but did you watch it?
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: I watched, I only watched a couple episodes, but it was really because it just wasn't very interesting, but it was really bizarre because like she didn't she didn't agree to be on the show at all.
- 11:52SPEAKER_04: But they would have occasionally scenes of the mom talking to her on the phone, and she like clearly didn't know they were gonna like be in the show.
- 11:59SPEAKER_04: Do you know what I mean?
- 11:59SPEAKER_04: It was just like so.
- 12:00SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's really weird.
- 12:01SPEAKER_04: It was like so sad and bizarre, and like really kind of like, oh, like this poor girl.
- 12:06SPEAKER_04: Like she's just like never like no one cares about her other than like their abil like her ability to make money for them.
- 12:13SPEAKER_04: Like it's so sad.
- 12:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so sad, yeah.
- 12:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and then yeah, that's her parents are awful.
- 12:18SPEAKER_06: And then like I remember that wasn't her sister like uh a rising star at this point as well, or something.
- 12:24SPEAKER_06: Like I feel like they were trying to push her sister into the limelight.
- 12:26SPEAKER_04: They were trying to make her like she was trying to be like a model or something, and then like I don't even know what ended up happening with that.
- 12:33SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 12:34SPEAKER_06: I haven't heard from her sister in like probably a decade.
- 12:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think they really like the Lohans as a brand, they like really fucked themselves over.
- 12:42SPEAKER_04: Because they don't think she could have been like, I mean, I always think about like Hillary Duff versus Lindsay Lohan.
- 12:47SPEAKER_04: Or it's like Lindsay Lohan could have totally had like a Hillary Duff thing.
- 12:51SPEAKER_04: Like there was like nothing preventing her from doing that.
- 12:54SPEAKER_04: Because people liked her, she's like a cute actress, we all like to watch her, like I don't know, man.
- 13:00SPEAKER_06: I it must be it must be the parents.
- 13:02SPEAKER_06: It must like it it must be all to do with that, because like unless you're ground unless you keep yourself grounded around that time, then like you don't know and you're that famous, it's gonna be it's gonna mess you up.
- 13:14SPEAKER_04: Right, and you have like no one normal in your life, like no just no no one.
- 13:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 13:21SPEAKER_06: It's awful.
- 13:22SPEAKER_06: But uh let's let's talk about the movie itself then.
- 13:25SPEAKER_06: Like it's um so for anyone who hasn't seen it, it's uh Just My Luck is a movie about um a girl like a they describe her as a Manhattanite and uh in the plot, and it's um a she's a man she's like this very rich, somehow very rich, but she's like also got like a like a standing magazine job.
- 13:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, magazine like assistant job.
- 13:46SPEAKER_06: I don't know, but she's very well off compared to her two friends that work at the same job.
- 13:50SPEAKER_04: Um well I think the idea behind that is like she's she's like lucky.
- 13:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 13:57SPEAKER_04: Like she just like she gets a lot of things for free out of like luck and she's constantly like getting things and like you know, having her rent be free for some reason or whatever.
- 14:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's probably what they're trying to insinuate.
- 14:09SPEAKER_06: But like she so she's got all this luck surrounding her and everything.
- 14:12SPEAKER_06: She gets everything she wants.
- 14:14SPEAKER_06: Um and then on the on the counter of that, there's Chris Pine's character who's just very unlucky all the time, and he's trying to get this band signed.
- 14:22SPEAKER_06: Uh who he's trying to manage he's kind of managing this band called McFly, who are a real band, but in this movie they're like not big at all.
- 14:31SPEAKER_06: Um they're like they're an unknown band.
- 14:33SPEAKER_06: And so he's trying to get them signed, and he's unlucky with everything.
- 14:36SPEAKER_06: He's like falling over all the time, ripping his trousers, all of these things.
- 14:40SPEAKER_04: Um I was amazed at like how much like slapstick there was with like very slapstick.
- 14:46SPEAKER_04: Like it was all like very physical things, like him, yeah, like stepping in dog poop or like splash like stepping into a puddle, like yeah, very literal.
- 14:55SPEAKER_06: And half the time it's like hit their own fault as well.
- 14:57SPEAKER_06: Exactly, yeah.
- 14:59SPEAKER_06: Right, it's like what you're doing.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: Right, exactly.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: Why are you paying attention?
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:04SPEAKER_06: Don't walk backwards into a puddle.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:08SPEAKER_06: Um, but they uh so basically what happens is they uh there's a masquerade ball thrown and he like crashes it and they have a dance together and they kiss and the luck is swapped.
- 15:22SPEAKER_06: And so she gets unlucky and he gets lucky.
- 15:24SPEAKER_06: And that's the like kind of the purpose of the movie.
- 15:26SPEAKER_06: So she it's it's her dealing with how bad luck how much bad luck she's having and him learning to like have good luck, him enjoying his good luck.
- 15:35SPEAKER_06: Essentially.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 15:38SPEAKER_06: Um but it's so I love a I it's not a body switch movie, but I love a bot I love those kind of movies that yeah.
- 15:47SPEAKER_04: I mean it has like it has a Freaky Friday like uh element to it because it's like they're switching they're switching luck, which for them both of their characters is like a defining thing.
- 15:56SPEAKER_04: It's like like he's famously unlucky and she's like famously lucky.
- 16:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 16:01SPEAKER_04: Um so it is kind of almost like a body swap.
- 16:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I I'm I'm a huge fan of those kind of movies as well.
- 16:08SPEAKER_06: So I was like quite happy to sit down and watch this movie as well.
- 16:11SPEAKER_06: I was like, yeah, I'm gonna enjoy this.
- 16:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 16:13SPEAKER_06: It was fine.
- 16:14SPEAKER_06: It was like I didn't I can't say I loved it, but yeah, sure.
- 16:17SPEAKER_04: But like, okay, but that's the thing too.
- 16:18SPEAKER_04: I'm like, it's like a fun premise.
- 16:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_04: Like they do it the way they're supposed to.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: Like they hit all the they hit all the beats.
- 16:28SPEAKER_04: It's like it has uh a levity and like uh a funness to it that I'm like, what like what is so wrong with this?
- 16:40SPEAKER_06: So are you are you a fan of like uh those kind of movies or do you did you just enjoy it because it's like it's just no, I love those kind of movies.
- 16:47SPEAKER_04: I love those kind of movies.
- 16:48SPEAKER_04: Like um I love Freaky Friday, also Little Man, also but like that I received.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: Um I loved um like Freaky.
- 16:57SPEAKER_04: There was another movie that came out recently.
- 16:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's where Vince Vaughn body swaps with a teen girl and he's a zero.
- 17:02SPEAKER_04: Vince Vaughn is a hero and he body swaps with a teen girl.
- 17:04SPEAKER_04: It's so good, you should watch it.
- 17:05SPEAKER_04: It's a blunder.
- 17:06SPEAKER_06: Really?
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 17:08SPEAKER_04: And then wait, what was the other one that I was thinking of?
- 17:12SPEAKER_04: What are what's that?
- 17:13SPEAKER_06: I'm trying to think.
- 17:14SPEAKER_04: What's there was one No, I literally had it, I had it in the back of my mind before I said Freaky Friday.
- 17:20SPEAKER_06: Oh, there was it like a there was one with a like a boy and a girl that swapped, wasn't there?
- 17:26SPEAKER_04: Um I don't know.
- 17:28SPEAKER_04: I like like um I like like the ones where people like uh are younger again.
- 17:32SPEAKER_04: Like I loved big when I was growing up.
- 17:34SPEAKER_04: Like I felt big.
- 17:35SPEAKER_04: Big is such a fun premise like that.
- 17:37SPEAKER_04: Big is like 17 again, even like with that.
- 17:40SPEAKER_04: That's the other one.
- 17:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's another one.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:42SPEAKER_04: And then just like but generally that fantastic or like Amy Schumer, um, I feel pretty, I think has kind of like a similar thing.
- 17:50SPEAKER_04: And then like just but generally that kind of like 90s magical realism, like the what women want with Mel Gibson or whatever.
- 17:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: Like that kind of fantastical, like another person has to under it's like a lesson and empathy movie.
- 18:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 18:06SPEAKER_04: And I uh I really like those.
- 18:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they're fun, they're always really enjoyable.
- 18:12SPEAKER_06: Like they're always you can always sit down, you don't have to think too hard about them.
- 18:15SPEAKER_06: They're like simple movies that you can just stick on and just like even if you're not like fully focusing on it, you can like you you can just like tune in and get it immediately.
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: And it's like it's never like character driven, like the characters are generally very bland and generic.
- 18:28SPEAKER_04: Like they're just like, you know, like there's they're hot people with like normal goals.
- 18:33SPEAKER_04: Like that's like always the kind of like thing.
- 18:36SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, I like I like it because it it is just about the premise.
- 18:40SPEAKER_04: And to me, as long as like as long as the other things aren't detracting from their ability to convey the premise, it's doing a good job.
- 18:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 18:49SPEAKER_06: I completely agree.
- 18:52SPEAKER_06: I don't know, like it's it's it's a fun movie.
- 18:55SPEAKER_06: Uh, but let's so let's talk it through then.
- 18:58SPEAKER_06: Um so it opens with uh her in she's a rich girl in New York City, and it's she walks out of her apartment building and it's raining, and as soon as she walks out, it stops raining.
- 19:12unknown: Yeah.
- 19:13SPEAKER_06: The sun's out and she's and then she's like the the uh the doorman's like, Oh, you're never gonna get a cab now at this time, and she like immediately gets the cab, drives away, and she's like, I've got to get there in four minutes, and they get there, get her there in four minutes to the office.
- 19:29SPEAKER_06: And meanwhile, Chris Pine is walking down the walking in the park, and he's like steps in a puddle, he rips his trousers, and then he thinks he's found five dollars uh in the uh in the trash, and he goes to pick it up, and it's got like dog poop in it, and he's like so covered in that.
- 19:48SPEAKER_06: So they and that that's the point where I wrote down, have I seen this?
- 19:52SPEAKER_06: Because I remember this scene.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: That's so.
- 19:54SPEAKER_06: And I reckon I reckon I must have put it on when it came out and been like, no, I'm not enjoying this until that makes sense, that's fair.
- 20:02SPEAKER_06: Or or I walked in on my sister's watching it once or something.
- 20:05SPEAKER_06: That's the only other thing I could do.
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: Or maybe it was like on TV.
- 20:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 20:11SPEAKER_06: So wait, your boy you said your boyfriend told you he had 14% on it.
- 20:15SPEAKER_06: So, what's your boyfriend's thoughts about this then?
- 20:16SPEAKER_06: Did he enjoy it?
- 20:18SPEAKER_06: Because you and your sister enjoyed it.
- 20:19SPEAKER_06: Did he did he enjoy it?
- 20:21SPEAKER_04: Me and my sister enjoyed it again.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: We enjoyed it just the same way we remembered it.
- 20:25SPEAKER_04: I think my boyfriend was just like, oh, this is like the that kind of movie that you guys like.
- 20:29SPEAKER_06: Oh that's sad.
- 20:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but it's like I I think it's like he did not enjoy it, but I think it's like it's not but to me, I'm like, I don't see how like when Harry met Sally is that much better than like you know what I mean?
- 20:44SPEAKER_04: Like, I'm like, I don't really think like you got male is so much better than this.
- 20:48SPEAKER_06: You've got male is not great, I don't think.
- 20:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and like I I would enjoy this more than you got male, I think.
- 20:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, same.
- 20:54SPEAKER_04: Or like I think that this is better than like what women want.
- 20:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I kind of agree with that.
- 21:00SPEAKER_06: And I d I don't know if that's just because of the Mel Gibson thing, or is it?
- 21:03SPEAKER_06: Right, exactly.
- 21:04SPEAKER_04: Like we've all been tainted by Mel Gibson.
- 21:07SPEAKER_06: But I did see what men want on a plane, like a U.S.
- 21:10SPEAKER_04: Oh, did you like it?
- 21:11SPEAKER_06: No.
- 21:13SPEAKER_06: That was awful.
- 21:15SPEAKER_06: Have you seen it?
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: No, that looked so bad.
- 21:17SPEAKER_06: I was like, it was it was really bad.
- 21:20SPEAKER_06: I I would suggest if you're gonna watch a body to what movie, not that one.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Okay, got it.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Good to know, good advice.
- 21:27SPEAKER_06: Um but yeah, I the reason I was asking, because is because he knew it was 14%, and I was like, oh, that's a strange thing to like kind of know off off hand.
- 21:36SPEAKER_04: Like, oh yeah, well he just like knows, he just like knows like really like like if something I can't explain it.
- 21:43SPEAKER_04: It's like if it's like a popular movie that's like bad, he like knows that it's bad and he like he knows he knows the kind of reviews that every movie gets.
- 21:50SPEAKER_04: Like he's really good at guessing what a movie will have.
- 21:52SPEAKER_06: Oh, interesting.
- 21:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:55SPEAKER_06: Have you played that with him then that's a fun game to play, I feel like.
- 21:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: And like we I've noticed that like a lot of the movies that I watched in my childhood like consistently have under 30% that I like enjoy fondly and remember fondly.
- 22:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:09SPEAKER_06: What what examples do you have then?
- 22:11SPEAKER_04: Like for the Um I think Princess Diaries 2 is probably a good example.
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: I really loved that.
- 22:16SPEAKER_04: Um I'm trying to think.
- 22:18SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 22:19SPEAKER_04: Just like all of those kind of movies.
- 22:21SPEAKER_06: I feel like kids' movies are consistently underrated though.
- 22:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think so too.
- 22:25SPEAKER_04: Well, I also think a lot of times, especially when it's a rom-com about like early 20s or late teens, I think critics hold it to a standard that is the same as like a Nora Efron, or like you know what I mean?
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, well, that's not really what this is though.
- 22:42SPEAKER_04: Like you're just kind of missing the point.
- 22:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, this is not also it's not for you.
- 22:48SPEAKER_04: Right, it's not for you.
- 22:49SPEAKER_04: Right, exactly.
- 22:49SPEAKER_04: Like that's also what I don't get.
- 22:51SPEAKER_04: And then I also think critics will really highly rate children's movies sometimes, like arbitrarily.
- 22:57SPEAKER_04: Like, like padding, okay, this this pisses me off, but like Paddington.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: Do not involve no I know.
- 23:02SPEAKER_04: I'm not I'm not even trying, I'm not trying to insult the pandemic Paddington because I think Paddington is fine.
- 23:06SPEAKER_04: I think that but like literally Paddington and Paddington 2 have like what like a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes or something.
- 23:12SPEAKER_06: I think it's Paddington 2 is 100%.
- 23:13SPEAKER_04: Okay, see that's what I mean.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: And then I'm like, that is wrong.
- 23:16SPEAKER_04: Like I'm like, you cannot think of Paddington 2.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: And Paddington 2 made like no sense.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: Like it was like all over the place.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: I think like Hugh Grant's like villain motivation was like never really consistent.
- 23:28SPEAKER_04: I did not like Paddington 2.
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: I thought it was bad.
- 23:31SPEAKER_06: Oh sad.
- 23:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, sorry.
- 23:33SPEAKER_04: Um I made a friend.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: But I'm like, again, I think that's a good thing.
- 23:36SPEAKER_06: No, I think that's not the reason I love it.
- 23:37SPEAKER_04: But like, I okay, I don't think like that it's not good, but I think when uh when critics give that a 98%, I'm like what I don't know.
- 23:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I know what you're saying, I get what you're saying there.
- 23:51SPEAKER_06: Like it's Paddington 2, I do really love, but at the same time, it's not I think 100% is kind of ridiculous.
- 23:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like that's like there are things that are like it's not a perfect movie.
- 24:02SPEAKER_04: No, it's not a perfect movie, exactly.
- 24:07SPEAKER_06: And this is not almost one of the worst movies ever made.
- 24:12SPEAKER_04: Exactly, exactly.
- 24:12SPEAKER_04: I'm like, there are four 14% implies like this is yeah, one of the worst movies on the planet, and it's like that's just simply not true.
- 24:20SPEAKER_04: Like, that just is not true.
- 24:23SPEAKER_06: There's so many movies that are worse than this that are like 50%.
- 24:27SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 24:28SPEAKER_06: And I think like that's the other thing.
- 24:29SPEAKER_06: I was gonna say, like, the the other thing is like the reason I picked f I always pick 40% for the for the the cutoff point is because it's so hard to get below 40%.
- 24:40SPEAKER_06: And when they do get below it, I'm like, wait, why are these the ones that are below 40%?
- 24:45SPEAKER_04: I mean it's kind of arbitrary, and I also think it's always uh through such a like you can tell every movie is reviewed through such a cultural context.
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: Because it's like there are movies that came out in like whatever, like 2006.
- 24:58SPEAKER_04: Okay, like the idea that Crash in 2006 won an Oscar is is insane.
- 25:04SPEAKER_04: Like I'm like, and it if if Crash were to come out now, no one would like it.
- 25:08SPEAKER_04: We would all be like, this is the like craziest, dumbest thing I've ever seen, we've all ever seen, and it's offensive, but it's like no, it came out in 2006 when people like that, or like even the blind side.
- 25:18SPEAKER_04: Like, I'm like the blind side.
- 25:20SPEAKER_06: There's always one each, like every so often.
- 25:21SPEAKER_06: There's one because like Green Book, there's one every so often.
- 25:24SPEAKER_04: And I'm like, these will not age fondly, I promise you.
- 25:27SPEAKER_04: They do not, yeah.
- 25:28SPEAKER_04: Like they don't, like everyone's gonna look back on this and be like, what the fuck?
- 25:35SPEAKER_06: So many of those that have like in those that in that decade that won Oscars.
- 25:38SPEAKER_06: I'm like, what are you why did that win?
- 25:40SPEAKER_06: Like the artist as well.
- 25:41SPEAKER_06: Like, what that is not a good movie.
- 25:44SPEAKER_04: Literally, I mean, and again, any movie relating to like race relations that like got real blowing reviews in the 2000s, like you would watch now and be like, oh my god, I'm gonna throw up.
- 25:54SPEAKER_04: Like the help, like, whole is so bad.
- 25:58SPEAKER_04: And like, it's like the people in it have like renounced being in it.
- 26:02SPEAKER_04: Like, I'm just like, that's crazy.
- 26:03SPEAKER_04: I'm like, you have a bunch of actors that are like, yeah, I actually regret being in the help.
- 26:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I want an Oscar for it, but I still don't like it.
- 26:11SPEAKER_04: But I I wish I hadn't done it.
- 26:13SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: Would I do it again?
- 26:15SPEAKER_04: No.
- 26:15SPEAKER_06: No.
- 26:18SPEAKER_06: That's that's so funny, actually.
- 26:23SPEAKER_04: I just think it's like crazy because I'm like, if you gave me an option, like, what's a better movie, Just My Luck or Crash?
- 26:27SPEAKER_04: They came out the same year.
- 26:28SPEAKER_04: I'm going Just My Luck every time.
- 26:31SPEAKER_06: I would agree with you there.
- 26:32SPEAKER_06: I would agree with you.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: And that one in Austin.
- 26:35SPEAKER_06: I would rather watch this again than watch Crash.
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 26:37SPEAKER_03: I would rather watch this again than watch crash any day in the week.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: Like, are you joking?
- 26:43SPEAKER_06: So do you were you a fan of Lindsay Lohan and uh her like acting in general?
- 26:49SPEAKER_06: Have you seen a lot of stuff of hers since then?
- 26:51SPEAKER_06: Or did you was this like the last sort of thing you watched?
- 26:54SPEAKER_04: No, we kind of went on a kit because we were just curious.
- 26:57SPEAKER_04: But I think a movie she made after this was called I Know Who Killed Me.
- 27:00SPEAKER_04: I think it was after.
- 27:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, I remember that.
- 27:02SPEAKER_04: Um do you remember that?
- 27:03SPEAKER_04: And it was like literally, honestly awful, and they really thought that they were doing something.
- 27:07SPEAKER_04: Like they like, you could tell, wait, wait, wait, I need I need to look up what year it came out.
- 27:11SPEAKER_04: Um, this came out a year a year after.
- 27:15SPEAKER_04: Okay, so I Know Who Killed Me.
- 27:17SPEAKER_04: They like wanted to be like this artsy, like empty horror movie, and it ended up it literally was just like, we're just like watching her get like fucking like brutalized.
- 27:25SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 27:26SPEAKER_04: Like it's like the kind of unnecessary violence against women that like is just so hard to watch.
- 27:32SPEAKER_04: And it was like just a horrible, horrible, horrible movie.
- 27:35SPEAKER_04: But like you could tell they really thought that they had something really to do.
- 27:39SPEAKER_04: And like to me, but I was like, to me, like that's the opposite of just my luck, where like just my luck is like they're like, oh, there's this like simple fun premise, and we're gonna make it a simple fun movie, and they like do their job right.
- 27:49SPEAKER_04: Like they like did exactly what they set out to do.
- 27:51SPEAKER_04: And like, I know who killed me.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: I'm like, no, you guys did not achieve what you were trying to, like, you just didn't.
- 27:56SPEAKER_04: And so to me, I'm like, that deserves whatever it has, probably something low.
- 27:59SPEAKER_04: I'm looking.
- 28:00SPEAKER_06: I think that's really low.
- 28:01SPEAKER_06: I think that's a good one.
- 28:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, it has a nine percent, and you know what it deserves that.
- 28:04SPEAKER_04: I think it deserves that.
- 28:07SPEAKER_06: I just remember seeing like a couple of scenes from it in like in like a trailer or something, and it just looked so bad.
- 28:11SPEAKER_06: I'm like, there's no way I'm watching this.
- 28:13SPEAKER_04: It's like definitely one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: It's like really an abomination.
- 28:16SPEAKER_04: It's really, really tragic.
- 28:19SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 28:19SPEAKER_06: At this point, I I do enjoy watching like terrible movies, so I'm kind of I'm kind of tempted to watch it now, but me too.
- 28:25SPEAKER_06: I love terrible.
- 28:25SPEAKER_04: I love terrible movies.
- 28:26SPEAKER_04: I mean, like some of my favorite movies are like the lifetime movies from like the early 2000s.
- 28:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like kind of like um like PSA, like uh parent torch, like parent horror porn, you know.
- 28:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 28:38SPEAKER_06: And but I I always go and like see the room on like the on at the cinema, like it's go to see it on the big screen with like loads of people and stuff.
- 28:46SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 28:47SPEAKER_06: I went to see I saw cats in I saw cats in theaters as well, just to s because I knew it was gonna be bad.
- 28:51SPEAKER_06: It was yeah, there were four of us in the whole theatre.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: That's so funny.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: That's amazing.
- 28:56SPEAKER_06: Four people opening weekend weekend.
- 28:59SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 29:01SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 29:02SPEAKER_04: One of them was Andrew Lloyd Weber himself.
- 29:05SPEAKER_06: Sitting front row, honestly.
- 29:07SPEAKER_06: Right, he was mad crying, just weeping.
- 29:13SPEAKER_06: But yeah, so now I'm like kind of tempted to watch that, but like, I don't know.
- 29:17SPEAKER_06: I also I also think it's unfair sometimes, like the way they get universally panned.
- 29:22SPEAKER_04: So yeah, exactly.
- 29:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I yeah, but that's also what is on like sometimes like movies, like it's just people like dog pile on.
- 29:31SPEAKER_04: So it's like the second that they hear that someone else doesn't like it, they're like, oh, neither did I, and also it's bad because of this, and then like people just kind of keep adding things, and it like kind of blows out of proportion where it's like this isn't that bad.
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: Like you guys are just making it too big of a thing.
- 29:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: I'm trying to think of any other movies that kind of fit into that camp.
- 29:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm trying to think of some now as well.
- 29:52SPEAKER_04: I I literally think Amy Schumer movies, I'm like, they're pretty good, like they're all pretty good.
- 29:56SPEAKER_04: And I mean Trainwreck I think has been a lot of things.
- 30:00SPEAKER_04: But I'm like, I feel pretty, I think was like fun, and like people were really mean about it.
- 30:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I d I didn't I can't say I loved I I feel pretty, but I didn't hate it.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's what I was like.
- 30:10SPEAKER_04: Doesn't it have like a 24% or something?
- 30:13SPEAKER_06: It's low.
- 30:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I'm like, I feel like that's not really warranted, especially like a Mel Gibson, if especially if what women want has like decent reviews.
- 30:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:21SPEAKER_04: That's where it feels like unfair to me, and like 36% is I feel pretty.
- 30:25SPEAKER_04: Let's see.
- 30:26SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
- 30:27SPEAKER_06: Um I th I kind of feel like people I I think people were going into it expecting train another train wreck, and because it didn't because it wasn't the same, they were like, oh well this this is not the same, this is not the movie I enjoyed originally, but I'm gonna say I'm gonna I'm gonna say it's bad now.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: Exactly, yeah.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: But I'm like, that's just seems a little unfair.
- 30:49SPEAKER_06: This was kind of the point where she was being like oversaturated and like on everything and like people were getting a bit sick of her.
- 30:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 30:56SPEAKER_06: And I think that's kind of that that didn't help as well.
- 30:57SPEAKER_06: And I wonder if that kind of happened with Lindsay Lohan here as well.
- 31:00SPEAKER_04: Oh, I think definitely.
- 31:01SPEAKER_04: I think I mean again, I think with Lindsay Lohan, it was like the there were too many drug scandals, there were too many rumors of her being mean, there were too many rumors of her being a diva.
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: And like I think I also think we were like way too harsh on like young teenage celebrities in that time period.
- 31:19SPEAKER_04: Like we really did like look at like Lindsay Lohan and Hillary Duff and like all of these people and like treat them like they were adults, and we like said things about them as if they were adults and not like literally teenagers who had been born and raised in the public eye.
- 31:33SPEAKER_04: Like, I just think about how mean our culture was to the Olsen twins, and I'm like, that was just so unwarranted.
- 31:39SPEAKER_04: Or like Brittany, I'm like, we were just so fucking cruel to that generation of women.
- 31:44SPEAKER_04: It's so sad.
- 31:45SPEAKER_04: I know, and it like makes me really sad because I'm like, oh, I think if Lindsay Lohan had come of age in like this time, I don't think that our we would have been as like cruel to her as a culture.
- 31:55SPEAKER_06: No, no.
- 31:56SPEAKER_04: And Megan Fox, I'm like Megan Fox is like one of those girls.
- 31:59SPEAKER_04: Oh and it's like that is so unfair because Megan Fox also is so talented and seems like so cool, and like because she like spoke out against fucking fucking like creepy people like sexualizing her as a 15-year-old, yeah, like she just never worked again.
- 32:12SPEAKER_04: And it's like, okay, well, that's so fucked up.
- 32:14SPEAKER_06: Like, yeah, it's horrible.
- 32:17SPEAKER_06: It's it's horrible what they did to her, and it's like totally that's 2000's culture.
- 32:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she's only just like recovering, just like it's yeah, she's barely recovering, but it took her like all of these like small TV spots to like guest roles to like slowly work her way back into it again.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: And this is someone who's like a big movie star, yeah.
- 32:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's horrible.
- 32:37SPEAKER_06: Um and I've got I've got to do another Michael Wayne movie coming up, actually.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Wait, what what what are you doing?
- 32:44SPEAKER_06: Bad boys too.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 32:48SPEAKER_06: So, and that that's her first role where she's 15 years old and is that the American flag one?
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: Um like where she's in a bar in an American flag bikini or whatever.
- 32:59SPEAKER_06: She's I think she's in a bikini at some point.
- 33:01SPEAKER_06: I don't I can't remember.
- 33:02SPEAKER_04: I think that's I think that's the um the story she talks about on uh uh fucking what's his face, Kimmel.
- 33:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and yeah, and she tells that story, and Jimmy Kimmel's like, well, haha, it's just something everyone's thinking.
- 33:15SPEAKER_06: And I'm like she was 15.
- 33:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's like you're disgusting.
- 33:19SPEAKER_04: And she like you can tell she's like you're disgusting.
- 33:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 33:22SPEAKER_06: But back then everyone was like, oh, it's so funny.
- 33:24SPEAKER_06: And now now you're looking at the crazy.
- 33:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I know.
- 33:25SPEAKER_04: I'm like, I'm like, literally, it's not funny.
- 33:27SPEAKER_04: It's literally like painful to watch.
- 33:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's like makes me want to throw up.
- 33:30SPEAKER_04: I'm like, you guys are so fucking evil.
- 33:32SPEAKER_04: Like, what's wrong with you?
- 33:36SPEAKER_04: I literally I feel so sorry for anyone who was like an 18 in 2006.
- 33:40SPEAKER_04: I'm like, you got your fish shit fucked over so hard for no reason.
- 33:44SPEAKER_06: Well, the other thing is I remember I remember speaking about the Elson twins.
- 33:48SPEAKER_06: I remember there being this whole thing of like, oh, there's a countdown until they're 18 and everything.
- 33:52SPEAKER_06: Like, can't look at the city.
- 33:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the countdown clocks.
- 33:54SPEAKER_04: The countdown clocks were crazy.
- 33:56SPEAKER_04: I mean, no, literally insane.
- 33:57SPEAKER_04: Also, like I was thinking about Entourage the other day because I like I watched a couple episodes of like season one entourage, and I'm like, there's a whole storyline where um Adrian Greenier or whatever, he like is trying to hook up with this girl who's like an 18-year-old virgin, Justine, played by Leighton Maester.
- 34:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I'm like, this is so weird that this was like culturally like five.
- 34:21SPEAKER_06: And was he supposed to be like 30 in it?
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:24SPEAKER_06: That's so good.
- 34:25SPEAKER_04: It's just disgusting, and it really is like the like the eight oh 18, like the legal, like it's like, ew, you guys are disgusting.
- 34:35SPEAKER_06: That that that show like immediately doesn't hold up.
- 34:38SPEAKER_06: Like the second it ended, it's like this does not hold up as a show.
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: I mean the movie did horribly.
- 34:44SPEAKER_04: And like I think rightly so when you wat when you like look back on it and watch it, it's like I can watch it and like find it enjoyable, but it's like it really is like you have to view it through the lens of like like deep satire.
- 34:56SPEAKER_04: Like, you know.
- 34:58SPEAKER_06: I mean, like, yeah, I I find it hard to watch.
- 35:01SPEAKER_06: I so I watched the whole of Entourage when it came out.
- 35:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 35:04SPEAKER_06: And then I haven't watched it since because I cannot go back and watch it.
- 35:07SPEAKER_06: I can't bring myself to do it.
- 35:08SPEAKER_06: That makes sense.
- 35:11SPEAKER_06: Although I I did watch um so I don't do you remember there was a um an entourage a thon on Funny or Die, they did this thing called the Entourage of Thon, and they had uh Gil O'Zeri watch the entire thing, and he had like at him and Adam Palley, and like Ben Schwartz came by, like all these people kept coming by to like watch with him, but he watched every episode back to back non-stop, and he like nearly had a breakdown.
- 35:38SPEAKER_04: That's insane, that's insane.
- 35:39SPEAKER_04: I'm like, that is that shit is so bad for your brain.
- 35:42SPEAKER_04: Like also just like you can see like again, like that kind of like 2000s culture where like I'm like I'm not really even sure what was happening in the 2000s.
- 35:52SPEAKER_04: Like, like what's wild.
- 35:55SPEAKER_06: It's so crazy.
- 35:56SPEAKER_06: I don't like that's the other thing, is like I I look back on it and I was like, I remember watching Entourage in I don't know, I was 15, 16 years old and being like, wow, this is the life.
- 36:08SPEAKER_06: That's what that's what it's gonna be like.
- 36:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's like exactly, and it's like you know Yeah, it's like disgusting.
- 36:14SPEAKER_04: I don't know, I was thinking about that because we were I was watching Wolf of Wall Street with my boyfriend and my sister the other day, and we were like, okay, this doesn't glamorize Jordan Belfort's lifestyle at all.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: Like it's like if you're actually like watching, even sort of like if you're actually paying attention, I'm like, they're not making it look glamorous, they're making it look disgusting, and they're making all of these guys look stupid, and like that's the whole point of it.
- 36:35SPEAKER_04: But I'm like, but so many people misinterpret it.
- 36:37SPEAKER_04: So many people like see that movie and they're like, I'm gonna go into finance.
- 36:40SPEAKER_04: I'm like, that's your table.
- 36:41SPEAKER_04: I'm like, that is what I'm saying.
- 36:43SPEAKER_06: Why would you want this?
- 36:44SPEAKER_04: That is not what they wanted you to take away from that.
- 36:47SPEAKER_04: That is not what Scorsese had in mind when he made that movie was you being like, I'm gonna go into finance.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: Like, no.
- 36:53SPEAKER_06: That's why so many people hated the Irishman as well.
- 36:56SPEAKER_06: They came out of it like, why is he like not glamorizing this lifestyle?
- 36:59SPEAKER_06: And like, well, the reason is because he's showing how sad it is, and like this is the end point of their lives, and they're regretting what they did.
- 37:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's like because it sucks.
- 37:08SPEAKER_04: Like, what are you talking about?
- 37:09SPEAKER_04: Like, it's like also his movies are so interesting because it's like they portray toxic masculinity in a very like not good light, but then like the takeaway from like so many people because they're just like kind of dumb is like the opposite of like what it should be.
- 37:24SPEAKER_06: That's the thing with taxi driver and joker, like the two polar opposites in my mind.
- 37:28SPEAKER_06: It's like taxi driver, it's showing how awful it is, and then Joker's like people take, but then people look at the Joker, they're like, Oh, this is amazing.
- 37:36SPEAKER_06: Like, this is this is how we want to live.
- 37:38SPEAKER_06: I'll I'll I I look up to this guy.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 37:41SPEAKER_04: It's like, no, that's like not that's not it.
- 37:44SPEAKER_06: No.
- 37:45SPEAKER_06: But yeah, yeah.
- 37:46SPEAKER_06: Um so back to this movie, which is like completely off to it.
- 37:51SPEAKER_06: Like we've completely off track.
- 37:52SPEAKER_06: But no, it's my fault.
- 37:53SPEAKER_06: Um we um so basically like it's the opening of the movie, and they they um he knocks into a he gets knocked into a runner and he gets um arrested for it.
- 38:06SPEAKER_06: He gets sent to for some reason because they think he's like flashing them or something.
- 38:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 38:11SPEAKER_06: He's like trying to flash them or like trying to pick her up or something.
- 38:14SPEAKER_06: And um in the meantime, uh she's going to work.
- 38:19SPEAKER_06: Lyft gets stuck and she gets like in the other one and she goes straight up, and uh this guy, this record producer Damon uh is waiting there and he's like mad because he's the uh she's the only one there, and she's like, Okay, I'm gonna give the presentation anyway.
- 38:32SPEAKER_06: And uh she gives the presentation, they love it, obviously.
- 38:36SPEAKER_06: And uh so she gets promoted, she gets her own office, she gets all this success.
- 38:41SPEAKER_06: Um and uh while all this is going on, you see him like work helping his little cousin out, and his little cousin is um this like sweet little girl who's like living in this horrible apartment next door to him.
- 38:56SPEAKER_06: Um she's got the bad luck as well, and he's got like posters of McFly all over his front door and all over his which is so like when you know what the music is from McFly, it's so funny.
- 39:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because it's so generic pop.
- 39:10SPEAKER_04: I know, it's so funny, and he like stands, he stands them so hard.
- 39:15SPEAKER_06: I know, it's like why why have you got why do you love this band so much?
- 39:19SPEAKER_06: Because it's so boring.
- 39:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know.
- 39:22SPEAKER_04: It's like you're truly like so nothing.
- 39:24SPEAKER_04: Like it's like there's no way this is speaking to you.
- 39:28SPEAKER_06: He's like they're the new Beatles or something he says at one point.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: I think that's so funny.
- 39:34SPEAKER_06: Like they were the thing is as well, they were huge in England at this point.
- 39:38SPEAKER_06: I don't know why.
- 39:40SPEAKER_06: Were they big?
- 39:41SPEAKER_06: Were they big in America around this?
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: Only in the context of this movie.
- 39:44SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, okay.
- 39:45SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: Like I'm pretty sure this was it for them.
- 39:48SPEAKER_06: Because I know when they filmed the concert later on, apparently they had to film it in the UK.
- 39:54SPEAKER_06: Um so like all that scene of the concert is in the UK because they and they had they had that's how they have all those fans there and everything, is they're real fans.
- 40:03SPEAKER_06: And then if you look at them, they all look so British as well, and it's like really obvious.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, that's so amazing.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: That's really funny.
- 40:11SPEAKER_06: Like, if you ever go back, watch the crowd, they look so British.
- 40:16SPEAKER_06: That's really funny.
- 40:18SPEAKER_06: But um, so he's helping, he helps his cousin, he's got my fly everyone, uh, and then like she gets a her neighbor, like knocks on uh her door and drops off a dress, and she's like, I've got your dry cleaning, and um it's Sarah Jessica Parker's dress.
- 40:35SPEAKER_06: She realizes, but he's just oh yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 40:38SPEAKER_04: And they happen to be the same size, right?
- 40:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the same size as Sarah Jessica Parker.
- 40:43SPEAKER_06: Right, of course.
- 40:45unknown: Of course.
- 40:47SPEAKER_06: And so she asks the neighbour to do her a favour and like go on a date with um her boss for this masquerade ball that she set up, and and she goes on a date with this like this guy who's got this like long blonde hair.
- 41:01SPEAKER_06: Uh he's supposed to be like the son of a um son of a like football team owner, I think, or something like that, or basketball team owner.
- 41:09SPEAKER_06: Um and they take they take a helicopter to a jet to the location where they're going.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 41:19SPEAKER_06: Which is just ridiculous.
- 41:20SPEAKER_03: And they're still unnecessary travel.
- 41:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 41:24SPEAKER_06: But something I can see happening as well.
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh totally.
- 41:28SPEAKER_06: And then uh while that's going on, McFly are like playing this small show in in like this bowling alley, and while to these like two record producers, I guess, and the sh um he immediately knocks out all the wires and everything, and he's like, um, and the two guys just like immediately get up and leave.
- 41:45SPEAKER_06: They don't even wait for anything, they're just like, nope, that's enough, we've heard enough.
- 41:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 41:49SPEAKER_06: Just leave.
- 41:53SPEAKER_06: You had no patience.
- 41:55SPEAKER_06: You literally just sat down.
- 41:59unknown: Yeah.
- 42:00SPEAKER_06: And and then they go to fire him and they tell him they tell him, okay, you can have one more week to find us a record deal, and uh, you got one chance, and we'll stay for one we'll stay in New York for one more week, and then we've got to go back to to England.
- 42:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 42:13SPEAKER_06: And um they get her in the meantime, they get Lindsay Lohan to do this luck test, her but her two best friends.
- 42:20SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 42:20SPEAKER_06: And so she's like scratching off the lottery tickets, and she worth wins, and all this stuff's happens.
- 42:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she gets like so lucky with everything that she does.
- 42:30SPEAKER_06: And um they go to the masquerade ball, and Chris Pine gets kicked out immediately because he's like not supposed to be there whatsoever.
- 42:39SPEAKER_06: He's got his little CD in his hand, he's trying to like get there to give Damon his C D and he sneaks in through like the back saying he's a dancer.
- 42:49SPEAKER_06: So he's like dance- he he ends up on stage dancing with everyone.
- 42:53SPEAKER_06: And while that's happening, Lindsay Lohan gets her fortune read, which says that she's gonna be unlucky soon.
- 42:57SPEAKER_06: It's like reverse, her luck's about to reverse.
- 43:00SPEAKER_06: And he ends up like go trying to go to the stage, and he he takes um he like says, Oh, I've I've I've been trying to get up here because I wanted to ask this girl to dance, and he's like asked her to dance, and they end up dancing and kissing, and when that happens, their their luck switches at that point.
- 43:18SPEAKER_06: And and so he um Oh, and the other thing I wrote down was while this song is playing, it's um it's like a sample, it's it's what the song Bang Bang.
- 43:29SPEAKER_06: Um the red flies.
- 43:31SPEAKER_06: No, no, they um there's a song playing while they're all dancing and everything, and it's um the Ariana Grande and Jesse Jason.
- 43:39SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's so funny.
- 43:40SPEAKER_06: It's that song Bang Bang, but it's like the s they it's what they sample clearly, because I was like, hang on, this is exactly that.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 43:47SPEAKER_06: That's I didn't know that was a sample.
- 43:49SPEAKER_04: No, I didn't either.
- 43:50SPEAKER_04: That's so funny.
- 43:51SPEAKER_04: Huh.
- 43:51SPEAKER_06: It was it was so weird.
- 43:53SPEAKER_06: Um but yeah, that so after they kiss, he like runs away to go handle off his CD and um Her shoe immediately breaks and her dress tears.
- 44:04SPEAKER_06: And and he's like runs out to go save Damon and uh to go hand his CD to Damon, and there's a car about to crash into Damon, and he pushes him out of the way and he gets hit by the car.
- 44:18SPEAKER_06: Which is great.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: And he gets up, he's like, yeah.
- 44:22SPEAKER_06: And he's like, I'm fine, I'm actually okay.
- 44:24SPEAKER_06: It didn't work.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:27SPEAKER_06: And uh Damon said, I will give you anything you want.
- 44:30SPEAKER_06: Just you get one favour from me, whatever you want.
- 44:32SPEAKER_06: He's like, Oh, can you listen to this CD?
- 44:34SPEAKER_06: He's like, I'll do you, I'll do this, and I'll come in come in and meet me uh tomorrow or whatever, and we will listen to the I'll go over the band with you, I'll I'll listen to it.
- 44:45SPEAKER_06: And she gets arrested while this is happening because her neighbour is an escort.
- 44:52SPEAKER_06: She finds out which is really funny.
- 44:54SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 44:55SPEAKER_06: It's actually great because you I didn't expect that to be honest.
- 44:58SPEAKER_06: That was that came out of nowhere.
- 45:00SPEAKER_06: When they were getting arrested, I was like, wait, what is going on?
- 45:03SPEAKER_06: What have they done?
- 45:04SPEAKER_06: I thought she was getting arrested because she was like having sex with him or something because they closed the curtains and they could speak could still see through them.
- 45:11SPEAKER_06: So I thought they were like indecent exposure or something.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: No, but he's just uh an escort.
- 45:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he's literally an escort.
- 45:19SPEAKER_06: And so she gets fired and then she gets uh punched in the face in the jail cell.
- 45:26SPEAKER_06: And um Damon listens to McFly and he decides he's gonna sign the band.
- 45:33SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 45:33SPEAKER_06: And he's gonna try them out, and um, which is after that one song, he signs them.
- 45:40SPEAKER_06: All it takes is their real song.
- 45:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, just one, just one.
- 45:44SPEAKER_06: Just all it takes.
- 45:45SPEAKER_06: And he hasn't even met them, I don't think, has he?
- 45:46SPEAKER_06: No, he just heard the song.
- 45:48SPEAKER_04: He just heard the song.
- 45:49SPEAKER_04: He just heard the song.
- 45:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but he's so he's so high on life from living now.
- 45:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he he's had a near death experience.
- 45:58SPEAKER_06: It's the happiest you see him as well.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 46:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and he's just he's constantly talking about money, and then like he he saves, he gets his life saved, and he's like very happy.
- 46:08SPEAKER_06: Which is not it's like it's like, oh, yeah, okay.
- 46:12SPEAKER_06: Maybe life isn't all about money.
- 46:15SPEAKER_02: Good good message, yeah.
- 46:16SPEAKER_06: Good message.
- 46:17SPEAKER_06: That's the message of this movie.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: Yes, life's not all about money.
- 46:20unknown: Yeah.
- 46:23SPEAKER_06: Cause at this point, her she goes back to her apartment and it's flooded completely, and they're just like banging the walls down and like knocking it down.
- 46:30SPEAKER_06: It's like so it's so over the top.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's like, I mean, they really do hammer home like again, good luck versus bad luck.
- 46:36SPEAKER_06: They really it's like the absolute best that can happen to you and the absolute worst at the same time.
- 46:41SPEAKER_04: Yes, yes, yes.
- 46:42SPEAKER_04: They love that juxtaposition.
- 46:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 46:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:45SPEAKER_06: But she loses absolutely everything except for one box, which then immediately breaks and smashes.
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 46:52SPEAKER_06: Um, but she um yeah, so she needs to find a new apartment.
- 46:56SPEAKER_06: He gets a new apartment at this point.
- 46:58SPEAKER_06: He gets like he gets his huge apartment.
- 47:00SPEAKER_04: Nice, yeah.
- 47:01SPEAKER_04: I'm like, how does that work?
- 47:02SPEAKER_04: I'm like, I think you have to have like credit, like, do you know what I mean?
- 47:05SPEAKER_04: You know?
- 47:06SPEAKER_06: No, it's Damon's like putting him up in there.
- 47:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't know, I know, but I'm like, that's just like in real life, I'm like, you know.
- 47:11SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 47:13SPEAKER_06: I mean, if she can get it, he can get one.
- 47:15SPEAKER_04: True, true.
- 47:17SPEAKER_06: If she can get it with her uh office assistant job.
- 47:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he can get it by meeting a record person.
- 47:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 47:25SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 47:27SPEAKER_06: He's got so much faith in their one song.
- 47:29unknown: Yeah.
- 47:32SPEAKER_06: Um, so she moves in with her two friends and she immediately like ruins their apartment as well by like so she smashes a mirror, she electrocutes herself, she like gets her hair caught in the hairdryer, and decides to like throw it in the in the bath and then like turn the bath on.
- 47:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 47:49SPEAKER_06: Why?
- 47:50SPEAKER_04: I don't know, but I think the idea is that she's been lucky for so long that she's like stupid and doesn't know how to do things.
- 47:56SPEAKER_04: Like, I think that is like because then also there's a scene with the laundry.
- 48:00SPEAKER_04: So sorry, do you want to talk about how they meet or whatever?
- 48:03SPEAKER_06: Oh no, go on, go on, go ahead.
- 48:04SPEAKER_04: Oh no, no, I was just gonna say, so then like, so basically, like they whatever, like she realizes that her luck is bad.
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: Is that after the bat the bathtub?
- 48:12SPEAKER_04: She's like, My luck is bad.
- 48:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she's real that's the first time she's ever had bad luck in her life.
- 48:18SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 48:19SPEAKER_04: And so she does she go to see the lady?
- 48:21SPEAKER_04: I can't remember.
- 48:22SPEAKER_06: She goes to see the t the terror card reader, yeah.
- 48:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 48:24SPEAKER_06: And um, and and the the she's like, Well, if your luck changed because you kissed him, well then obviously you have to kiss him again.
- 48:34SPEAKER_06: I think just literally she says that to get rid of it.
- 48:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah because she's like literally trying to go to bed.
- 48:40SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 48:41SPEAKER_06: Um and so she she like brings up all the dancers' photos and she's like, I'm gonna kiss each one of them because I don't know who it was.
- 48:49SPEAKER_06: Because this is another thing, this is like a thing of this is like a very common thing of like around that time as well, of like they cannot recognize nobody can recognize the other person if they're wearing a mask, even though Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: Right, right, exactly.
- 49:03SPEAKER_04: Yes, that was a very common trope during this time period.
- 49:06SPEAKER_06: This came up in a Cinderella story recently, too.
- 49:08SPEAKER_04: Oh, a Cinderella story, they they're bold with that one.
- 49:10SPEAKER_04: I'm like, again, like this this high school's not huge, and the mask isn't on that disguising.
- 49:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, interesting.
- 49:18SPEAKER_06: You know each other.
- 49:19SPEAKER_06: You literally know who each other are.
- 49:20SPEAKER_04: And then also then, like, you guys are the same race.
- 49:23SPEAKER_04: You know, this I guess this would make sense if you were like a different race than this person, but like, I don't think so.
- 49:30SPEAKER_06: That's so funny as well, like thinking about if they're the same race, they would have been.
- 49:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like I'm like, you're both like white.
- 49:38SPEAKER_04: It's like I can't tell the difference between white people, like maybe I wouldn't have known that Hillary Duff was the girl, you know?
- 49:43SPEAKER_04: But I'm like, no, but try Michael Murray, you do.
- 49:45SPEAKER_04: Like, you know, you know.
- 49:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 49:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 49:49SPEAKER_06: Um and so, yeah, but I I kind of understand it here because they've never met before and and they don't like it.
- 49:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, also like when you're not like when you're not like yeah, when you're like not trying to remember someone, it's actually quite easy to forgot unless they're like very memorable.
- 50:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 50:05SPEAKER_06: They'd only just met at that point.
- 50:07SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: I get it.
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: I get it.
- 50:09SPEAKER_03: It was dark.
- 50:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 50:10SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 50:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 50:12SPEAKER_06: And um so she like brings up all the dancers and she goes around to kiss each one of them, and she ruins a wedding by kissing one of them.
- 50:22SPEAKER_04: Um it's very over the top.
- 50:25SPEAKER_04: That's what I I like that though.
- 50:26SPEAKER_04: It's like it's so it's so ridiculous.
- 50:29SPEAKER_06: But there's a load of them.
- 50:30SPEAKER_06: There what I found funny there was like half of them are clearly her, and then half of them are clearly not her kissing the guy.
- 50:37SPEAKER_06: You can see, you can see it's like her choice of the game.
- 50:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like which one she was willing to kiss.
- 50:43SPEAKER_04: That's so funny.
- 50:44SPEAKER_06: You can see it's like the what it's like the hotter ones she clearly wanted to kiss, and the hotter ones are.
- 50:56SPEAKER_06: But basically, the other guy that she first went on the date with wants to see her again, and so she goes on a date with him to this like art gallery thing that is like a gallery.
- 51:07SPEAKER_06: Which is like, and she's she insults the art piece, which is just like mud falling down from a pipe, which is re it re it is disgusting, I agree with her.
- 51:16SPEAKER_06: And uh one of the dancers happens to be there as well, the final dancer that she hasn't been able to find, and so she kisses him, and um, but the way she does it is like he won't kiss her, and she's like, Oh, he's having a heart attack, he needs CPR as the only way and she like shoves him to the floor and starts making out with him, right?
- 51:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and then he like shoves her away and she like falls in the mud and uh gets arrested again because of that, I guess for like ruining the art piece.
- 51:46SPEAKER_06: Right, yeah, and she like storms out and leaves the jail, uh, wanders the streets like sad, and then like winds up in a diner, and um this is where she sees Chris Pain, or Chris Pine sees her because she has like no money or anything, yeah.
- 52:02SPEAKER_06: And she starts yelling and making a big scene and everything and eating someone's bacon, and he like drags her out of there.
- 52:11SPEAKER_06: Um and he often he says, like, I've been in your position before.
- 52:15SPEAKER_06: How about you get a job my old job as a janitor at this bowling house?
- 52:21SPEAKER_06: It's great.
- 52:23SPEAKER_06: And it's like you start to see, like, oh, she actually has to try now and like do actually do things.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:30SPEAKER_06: So she starts like working her way up again, even though she's having all the bad luck, but she has no idea what to do with anything.
- 52:35SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 52:35SPEAKER_06: She's like clearly never done anything for herself in her life.
- 52:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, in her in her life, in her whole life, yes, yeah.
- 52:41SPEAKER_06: And uh in the meantime, like she uh McFly is supposed to have like um this knitting factory um that's supposed to be like performing at the knitting factory, but it falls through um while he's helping her.
- 52:56SPEAKER_06: All this stuff falls through for the knitting factory, but they get the new opening of the hard rock cafe.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Which I think is actually worse in my eyes, but oh yeah, in regards to like Cool Factor, for sure it's worse.
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: For sure it's worse.
- 53:13SPEAKER_06: But it's more it's more like what McFly fit in with.
- 53:18SPEAKER_04: Right, totally.
- 53:19SPEAKER_04: Also, like it is like a bigger venue.
- 53:21SPEAKER_04: It's a bigger venue, just looking at it like that.
- 53:25SPEAKER_06: But like McFly would never perform at the Knitting Factory in in the world.
- 53:28SPEAKER_04: No, obviously not.
- 53:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, they're like a mainstream British pop band, like, no, it's not their vibe.
- 53:34SPEAKER_06: So it's really funny.
- 53:35SPEAKER_06: I wonder if the knitting factory were just like, no, you can't perform it.
- 53:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 53:42SPEAKER_06: And um, while all this is going on, he she's like helping him out and everything, and like she gets this misunderstanding about his niece.
- 53:51SPEAKER_06: Uh, she thinks it's the she thinks this girl Katie is actually the the assistant of Damon that's like flirting with him and everything.
- 53:59SPEAKER_06: Who's like really over the so I forgot, like, she's really over the top flirting with him and like asked him out on a date and says, Oh, I will pay.
- 54:07SPEAKER_06: I don't want to like I I hate it when men pay.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:12SPEAKER_06: It's so funny.
- 54:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because he's like, What is going on here?
- 54:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:18SPEAKER_06: She's like so into him.
- 54:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 54:23SPEAKER_06: But he lets her stay he lets uh Lindsay Lyons stay at his in the meantime, and she breaks his washer.
- 54:30SPEAKER_04: Washing machine, right, because she's never done laundry before and she puts too much detergent in.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: She puts so much in and like And then they get into like one of those like soap fights.
- 54:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 54:40SPEAKER_06: They all they both fall on the floor and they don't throw food.
- 54:42SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 54:42SPEAKER_04: And they're like, ha ha ha! Yeah, and I'm like, that's not a thing.
- 54:45SPEAKER_04: People don't do that.
- 54:47SPEAKER_06: It's such a movie thing, isn't it?
- 54:48SPEAKER_04: It's like food fights and like soap fights and stuff like that.
- 54:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I've never been in a food fight in my life.
- 54:53SPEAKER_04: If someone throws food at me, I'm out.
- 54:55SPEAKER_04: That is not flirting.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: You know, that's not I'm not engaging.
- 54:59unknown: I'm I'm out.
- 55:00SPEAKER_06: Your boyfriend never did that to you.
- 55:01SPEAKER_06: That's not how he won you.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: If he threw food at me, I would be over.
- 55:08SPEAKER_06: Um and while they're while they're doing that, they fall on the floor, they throw, they throw like bubbles at each other and they're about to kiss, and Casey walks in and is like, ooh, yeah.
- 55:19SPEAKER_06: Grossed out, and so they don't actually kiss at that point.
- 55:22SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 55:23SPEAKER_06: Um and then he's really worried, he's really concerned because he doesn't have a song for McFly to like sing as their new song, and they need a new song for the for the for the radio, I guess it is, because they don't want he doesn't actually want it sung at the the concert, he wants it on the radio.
- 55:39SPEAKER_06: Um makes no sense, but and they say, Oh, she says, Oh, my friend Maggie writes songs, and so she writes them a song, and they're like, Oh, this is amazing, we're gonna sing it.
- 55:52SPEAKER_06: Um and while that's going on, that um she overhears them talking about how he used to have like really bad luck until the masquerade balls.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, yes.
- 56:01SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's what's going on.
- 56:02SPEAKER_06: I switched with him, he was the guy.
- 56:05SPEAKER_06: Yes, and so she runs over and kisses him and gets her luck back immediately.
- 56:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:10SPEAKER_06: And uh while she runs out onto the street, she runs into her old boss.
- 56:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 56:17SPEAKER_06: Who is now engaged to be married to the escort.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 56:22SPEAKER_01: So things are in the escort.
- 56:24SPEAKER_06: And she gives her her old doesn't not just give her her old job back, she gives her a job as an as a VP to because she's so smack, baby.
- 56:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, not only is her luck back, it's better than ever.
- 56:37SPEAKER_04: It's back in full swing, yeah, yeah.
- 56:39SPEAKER_04: Uh huh, yeah.
- 56:40SPEAKER_06: And the band and because of all this, the band won't do her friend's song because they think it's bad luck to perform it on stage.
- 56:48SPEAKER_06: Um and and the drummer gets trapped, so it's the night of the concert, and the drummer gets trapped down in a hole.
- 56:56SPEAKER_06: He falls down in a hole because he drops his drumstick down there, and they lock him in there.
- 57:02SPEAKER_06: And then the guitar snaps, and all these things are happening.
- 57:05SPEAKER_06: It's so it's like so much bad luck, and all this is like they don't know where he is, and they're like, Oh, if you can't do it, then we're gonna send on this like old man who's like performed as White Snake's assistant drummer once.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:18SPEAKER_06: And Lindsay's like feels really bad, so she runs, she runs like she's like, Oh, actually, I'm gonna give him his luck back.
- 57:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 57:24SPEAKER_06: Um so she runs, she gets to him and kisses him, and she's like countdown, she's like 10, 9, 8, and as that counts down to 1, uh the drummer gets like flung to the stage.
- 57:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course.
- 57:38SPEAKER_06: And they start performing, and it all goes really well.
- 57:43SPEAKER_06: And I wrote down at that point, I was like, this is so clearly these British kids because you look you look like the dress sense, the hairstyles, the just like the overall look of them, everyone's white as well.
- 57:56SPEAKER_06: It's so clearly it's so funny.
- 57:58SPEAKER_06: And um, you find out that she's fallen for him, uh she's getting all of her bad luck.
- 58:06SPEAKER_06: She's got so she's got all this bad luck in again, he's like really happy.
- 58:09SPEAKER_06: Um, because he still doesn't realise what's going on.
- 58:11SPEAKER_06: It's only her that realizes.
- 58:14SPEAKER_06: Um, and she's going to leave to go to Grand Central Station.
- 58:18SPEAKER_06: She decides because of course, where else is she gonna go?
- 58:21SPEAKER_06: She's like, I'm gonna go back to my parents, I'm going to Grand Central Station.
- 58:25SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:26SPEAKER_04: I love the idea that like if you don't have luck, you actually do have to leave New York City.
- 58:29SPEAKER_04: Because that says something very uh powerful that's like, unless you're like the luckiest person in the world, you can't make it here.
- 58:36SPEAKER_06: I mean, it's not entirely untrue.
- 58:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean that's what I mean.
- 58:40SPEAKER_04: I'm like, that's not untrue.
- 58:42SPEAKER_04: That's not untrue.
- 58:44SPEAKER_06: I yeah, I was living in central, not central London, but like pretty much like London for a long time until coronavirus hit, and then now I'm not in London.
- 58:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean like when situations get less than ideal, you have to leave the expensive city.
- 59:01SPEAKER_06: That's just uh that's just the follows her um and because she's gonna go get her train, and when she's gonna go, as she's going to get the train, she's like looks up at the sign, and all of the trains are suddenly delayed.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 59:19SPEAKER_06: And he's like, Yeah, clearly you're not leaving.
- 59:22SPEAKER_06: You're not actually gonna leave.
- 59:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:26SPEAKER_06: And so he um he kisses her and they keep their luck keeps switching back and forth.
- 59:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so they just like they make they make out as the and then the movie ends as the train switch from on time to delete it.
- 59:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah, well the movie doesn't quite end because they just like Kate So Katie comes in.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 59:47SPEAKER_06: They decide they're gonna give the luck to Katie.
- 59:49SPEAKER_06: So they kiss her both kiss on Katie.
- 59:51SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, Katie gets all the luck.
- 59:54SPEAKER_06: And they're gonna go live their like luck life of bad luck.
- 59:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:58SPEAKER_06: Or just like normal life normal life, I guess.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_06: Um, and so Katie has the luck, and then they go out into the street and they immediately get like hit by a broken pipe, and like the the white the water gets struck, strikes them, and they're like and then it gets cuts to like a freeze frame and it ends.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_06: So they're now both very unlucky, but they've got each other, which is all the luck they need, supposedly.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_04: Supposedly, allegedly.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_04: We haven't seen any demonstration of that, but yeah, yeah, and then that's that's how the movie ends.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_04: I'm like pretty good.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_04: Honestly.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_06: It's a nice sweet, it's a quite sweet ending.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_04: It's very sweet.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_04: It's like they just both agree to be unlucky, but in love.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but they've got yeah, and unlucky in love.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_06: That's what it should have been called.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_06: Unlucky in love.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_04: Unlucky in love, yeah.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_06: That that would be the sequel to this.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_04: Yes, exactly.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_04: Just my luck too.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_04: Unlucky and love.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_06: But but yeah, it's a th it's I I like I said, I didn't I don't think I loved it, but I enjoyed it.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I don't think it's a lot of fun.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_06: I think it's a fun movie.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_06: I think it's harmless.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think it's harmless.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_04: I think it's really harmless.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_04: I think it's it's doing no one any harm.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_04: I don't think it says anything bad or negative.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_04: I don't think there's any like mean message.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_04: It doesn't even, it doesn't like glorify capitalism, which a lot of movies do.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_04: If anything, like them agreeing to be unlucky together is actually a very like um like love over everything decision.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_04: Which isn't quite affirming.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_06: They're essentially like giving up, so like he knows at this point he's not like he's not gonna have any more luck with McFly, and she knows she's not gonna have any more luck with her job as well.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_06: So it's quite a nice thing where like they they they care so much about each other that they're willing to give that up for having known each other for a a week or whatever, but it's fine.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_06: I do like that.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_06: I I'm willing to like let that go for the sake of a movie.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, me too.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_04: I think it's I think it's good.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_04: I think it's I think it does exactly what a movie does.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_04: I think it like it's very obvious, you know?
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I like a good rom com as well.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_06: So I I do enjoy a good rom-com, so I'm I'm perfect.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_06: I am I'm always more forgiving of a rom-com when it does those those kinds of things, and I think a lot of people aren't.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_06: Um I think when it's these sort of movies, they kind of like that like you said, when it's when Harry met Sally or something, I think it ha that's that the reason people love that so much more and so more much more regarded as a movie is because it's such a it's a standard plot where it doesn't like take things for granted.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_06: It doesn't like you don't have to take things for granted there to make it work, it just kind of works because it's that it's a normal story.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_06: Whereas this one you have to like you have to accept that they've had they haven't known each other that long, there's like a little bit of a fantasy element at play here as well.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think but it's like you just have to take it for what it is.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_04: Like it's not a realistic, it's not a realistic romance movie, it's not like reservation road, you know?
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_04: Oh no, it's great Valentine, like we like why does everything have to be like yeah, like a a day-to-day stereotypical romance?
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_04: Or like I think like it's weird because like Joe Swanberg and like the DuPlace brothers came like after this and they started making these like really like kind of like boring mumble core, like realistic relationship movies where it's like, yeah, it's just like sometimes it doesn't work out because like you have too many feelings and like doesn't I'm like that's just bullshit to me.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_04: And like that's not what a that like that's not what a movie is for.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_04: I'm like I like we live that.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_04: Like, and I guess that that's the point, right?
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_04: Like I get that right.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_04: I'm like, I don't want to watch like people who talk like me.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_04: Like that's not the point of a movie.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_04: Like that's not what I want.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: Anyway, I thought it was I thought it did what it was supposed to do, and I thought it did it pretty well, yeah.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I completely agree, yeah.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_06: I it did what it was came to do, and I think it's again, I think it's only rated so badly, partly because of like people are taking it, people won't take it for granted, won't take the fantasy element for what it is and won't enjoy it and be like, okay, it's fine, and partly because of Lindsay Lohan and what was going on around her at the time.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_06: I think those are two things combining, we're like, oh, we have to suddenly hate we have to hate this movie.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah, my one criticism of if I had to pick something, yeah, is the McFly stuff.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_06: Such as like sales pitch for them.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_06: It really feels like.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_06: It's so funny.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_04: I mean, yeah, it does feel like a McFly like like long music video, like a really long McFly music video with too much story.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_06: You didn't have to put a real band in this movie.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you didn't.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_04: You absolutely did not.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_04: You did not.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_06: Because they're also not good in it.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_06: They're not they can't act.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, oh yeah, it's not good.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_04: It was it was not good.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_04: Ultimately, that part of it was bad.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but I'm like around that, besides that, I think Besides that is fine.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_04: I think it was good, yeah.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_06: I like everyone in it.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_06: I even Lindsay Lohan in it, knowing beyond knowing what she was going on in the real in real life and what was going on behind the scenes, I think she's fine in it.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_04: I think she's totally fine.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_04: I'm like also considering she's only on set, you know, half the time.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_04: Like considering it's not even her half the time, I think it's pretty good.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_04: And like whoever was her stand-in did a great job.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_06: And yeah, but give we ought to give a shout out to her stand-in.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, good job.
- 1:05:12unknown: Good job.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_06: Chris Pine is is funny in this.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_06: Um Phase On Love is good in this, her two friends are good in this.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_06: Uh I can't remember her name.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_06: I can't remember their names.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_06: The girls from the OC.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_04: Samara Arm Yeah, Samara Armstrong.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_04: Their girl was Anna and the OC, yeah.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_04: I remember um I I really liked her during this time because after this movie came out, there was a 17 magazine article where she like says that she dyes her hair with like face bleach.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_04: What?
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_04: Like the stuff that you use, like bleach your mustache.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_06: Anyway, but I didn't know you could do that.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I didn't either, but that's what she was like, yeah, I just did that.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_04: But I I I liked it.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_04: I thought it was good.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_04: Thank you for watching it.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah, thank you for uh picking it as well.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_06: Um, so unless you have any final thoughts.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_06: Thoughts on that, let's move on to the final segment.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_01: Sure, yeah, let's move on to the final segment.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_06: So the final segment is um, and I know you're gonna have thoughts on I know you're gonna have a lot of these.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_06: So let's see if we can narrow it down to one, because we've been talking about kind of been like talking about this a lot, but do you have a movie that's refers to this which is universally praised by critics and loved by audiences that you think is a bad movie?
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_04: Probably like um like like any like um hmm, let me think.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_04: Uh I think like Crash, like any one of those kind of movies, like any of those like Oscar movies or like anything Oscar baby, 1917, basically any war movie, I I think that is well made, gets really good reviews.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_04: I would say, like, yeah, like the Hurt Locker, Zero Dark 30, um, like all of those kind of critically acclaimed movies, I think are not good.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_04: Like, I think that they are boring.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_04: I don't think they're ever interesting character studies.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_04: I think that they are always kind of like a little too nice to American military.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_04: Like, they really like are too nice.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_04: And like, I'm like, this is not good.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_04: And like, I'm like, the fact that people like this says something.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_04: I hate when like the fact that people like a movie says something very like wrong about our society.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_04: Like the fact that so many people like liked Green Book or like liked Crash, I'm like, that indicates like a deep, deep, deep problem in our society.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_06: That the other thing is like, yeah, with Crash and Deep Green Book, it's just like, have you not did you not learn from Crash when it came to the?
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_04: Like, did you not learn?
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_04: Did you not learn from Crash?
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_04: That's what I mean.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_04: I'm like, we did that, we did this already, and there was already discourse, and people already said why this is wrong and bad, and you're gonna do it again.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_04: Like you're gonna do it again.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_06: I just and it's like everything going on around the time that Green Book came out was.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_04: No, I know what are you why also they already have like all the Oscar so white stuff that was already thing.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I am blown away.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_04: And they do it all the time.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_04: They do it all the time.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_04: They and like nine again, like 1917, like the fact that that got like nommed, like, did it win?
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_06: Uh no, because uh Parasite won.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_04: Oh Parasite, oh yeah, thank god, thank god.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_04: But um, like 1917, I'm like, that's one of the most fucking boring movies I've ever seen.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_04: Like, I'm gonna go.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_06: I like I enjoy paras I I enjoyed 1917, but I I I kind of agree with you on a lot of those war movies, so I'm I'm I feel the same about a lot of them.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_06: I liked it tech I liked 1917 technically though, but got it.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_04: I mean I get that there was like cool filmmaking aspects, but I mean like in terms of just like sheer enjoyment, I'm like what has more entertainment value and like just my luck.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_04: Princess Diaries too.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_06: Princess Diaries.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm like I'm thinking that every time that's fair, that's totally fair.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_06: Um what I was gonna say, like um yeah.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_06: Do you wanna is there anyone that you want to focus in on there now of those that we can talk a little bit more?
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_06: Just like just to go into a bit more detail about them.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_04: Um I mean, did I mention anything that you've seen that you would like to discuss?
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_06: I've seen all of those, so it's just like it's entirely your choice.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_04: Let me think.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_04: Um I guess like I would okay, I think like the blind side.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_04: Have you seen the blind side?
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_04: I think like that is to me like one of the biggest offenders.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_06: It really is.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_06: Of that kind of thing.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_06: But do you know how that like that came to be her Oscar movie?
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_06: Like, do you know what happened around that?
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_06: No.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_06: So apparent so basically, like, it was getting like very middling, like, people just thought it was gonna be like one of the essentially like almost a Hallmark movie.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_06: Where it was like, oh, this is just like one of those movies and everything.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_06: Then one critic saw it, said, Oh, she's really good in this.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_06: I think she should win an Oscar for it.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_06: And then suddenly all the critics start going, Yeah, you're right, yeah, she should win an Oscar for this.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_04: That's but that's literally the same thing in reverse that happens with movies that get shit.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_04: So it's just like piling on of like praise because one person arbitrarily was like, Oh yeah, this is good.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_06: Literally one critic said it, and then suddenly they all started going, Wow, yeah, you're right.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_04: That is so interesting.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_04: Also, it's the kind of movie, okay.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_04: Like, I when I first saw it, I think it was like, it was like before I was like, before I really thought very critically about movies, like it was before I was like looking at movies, being like, but what is this really saying?
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_04: Like, what is its contribution to the culture?
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_04: Like, whatever.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_04: And I think like when I first saw it, I was like, oh, it was fine.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_04: Like, I guess.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_04: Do you know what I mean?
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_04: Like, I think I didn't really think anything about it.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_04: And then I was talking about it with someone and they were like referencing it in the context of white savior movies, a law freedom writers.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_04: Like, I think we were talking about freedom writers in blinds, and I was like, oh.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_04: And then like the second that someone said that, I was like, oh yeah, it's like that and it's bad.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_04: Like, and but it's like so funny because it's like I think it is so much of people's opinion is just like informed by something someone else said.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they like were like, Absolutely, uh, yeah, I guess that is true.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_04: And like I remember my mom really liked it too, and then I brought up that thing to her, and she was like, Oh yeah, yeah, it's true.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_04: It is like that.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_04: Then I'm like, oh, like that's crazy.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_06: It just takes a little bit like you have to it just takes us thinking for ourselves, I guess.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like okay, but what's that saying?
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_04: Okay, so it's bad, isn't it?
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_04: It's bad, right?
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_04: And you're like, oh yeah, like duh.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, oh, uh, yeah.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_04: Anyway.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_06: No, it's bad that we like none of us are like thinking for ourselves with it.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I know.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_06: Take it to the value of like whatever anyone else is saying.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_04: I think that's so interesting because I'm like, it it is so like people's opinions on movies are so rarely their own completely.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_04: Like it's like you almost can't help but be swayed, or like, or like even if you read reviews before you go into a movie, there will be like like things that they commented on that will just stand out to you that you'll be thinking about that you wouldn't have otherwise.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah, totally.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_06: That's why I try not to read anything before now.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_04: I try and just Yeah, I mean I I try really hard not to either because I'm like it just does taint the way that you perceive a movie so much.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_06: Some sometimes it's really hard because I will see something come up on Twitter or something, and it will just be like there in front of me, and I'll see like a score or a a review with a with a rating or something right in front of me, and I'm like, okay, well now I've seen something, so I'm like kind of aware, but at the same time I try and avoid them before I see anything.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_06: I try and go in.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_06: Like if I see a I even try and avoid trailers now.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_04: I just if I my whole thing with trailers is I watch trailers for 20 seconds.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_04: If I if I and if I want to see it, I stop watching the trailer.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_06: That's a good idea.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_04: But if I don't want to see it, I just finish watching the trailer.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_06: That's yeah, that's not a way that's a good way of doing it, actually, because then you're like, oh no, now I know roughly what's gonna happen.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like I get it.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_04: I get it.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_04: I'm good.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but if I want to see the movie, I'll just watch like the first like 10 to 20 seconds.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_06: The only time I watch tra I tend to watch trailers now is if at well, not at the moment in the last year, but I if I'm at the cinema or something like that.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, oh yeah, I love watching trailers at the movie theater.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_04: But I also think like trailers, trailers for me, I'm like, I'm just trying to watch it to get the vibe.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_04: Because I feel like there's so much like you can't get from like a summary, like you can't really gauge always the tone of something, or like and sometimes it's like I just need to know if it's like too irreverent or like if it's like too scary or like whatever.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_06: I always find it funny now, like looking back on like like very old trailers from like the 80s or something, and seeing like the difference in style.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_06: Because they give away everything.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_04: Oh my fucking god.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_04: I watched a trailer for um the Robert De Niro movie, the Scorsese one.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_02: Um, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_04: Um the uh it's like it's just a thriller.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_06: Cape Fear.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_04: Cape Fear.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_04: Okay, so I watched the trailer for Cape Fear last night, and it's like a 1991 movie, and it's like one of those trailers where it just has the weird voiceover and like the weird text.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_06: So strange.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_04: And I'm just like, how did anyone want to see movies with those trailers?
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_04: I'm like, I wouldn't have seen a single movie.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_04: It's amazing that those got people to the theater.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_04: I'm like, I if I watched that, I would not see that movie.
- 1:14:00unknown: I would be like, nope.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_06: Have you seen that other there's another one with for the uh 89 Batman that came out, and it's just literally like them outside, it's it's just people being interviewed outside of like a screening of it, and it's so strange.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_06: You like I I'll have to send it to you because it's so funny.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_06: It's really, really weird, like how this I don't know what they were doing with that, but like that would not make me want to see it, and every person in it, every person they interview is just like the strangest person, nobody acts like this anymore as well.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_04: That's so weird.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like truly, like then 90s trailers are like scary.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_04: They're like they're weird, they're all they all have like a weird ominous vibe, even if it's a comedy.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_04: Like, do you know what I mean?
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_04: They're always like, yeah, I don't know what.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's like that's it's so weird, it's not good, it's not good, but but yeah, anyway, like um do you have any final thoughts on just my luck or or just no, just I think just my luck is better than you know a lot of movies.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_04: I think it's sad that's 14%.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_06: It is really sad, and I like hope I do recommend people go and watch it if you kind if you like you know body swap comedies, if you like rom coms, if you like Lindsay Lohan at any point, go and watch her.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_06: At any point, yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_06: No, well, actually, not at any point.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_06: If you like her early stuff.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_04: If you like her early stuff, yeah.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_04: If you're liking what she's doing now with like her nightclub or whatever, I don't I don't know if that's for real.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, she's like a nightclub in Greece.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_04: I think that's how she like makes money now.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_06: I forgot about that.
- 1:15:31unknown: I don't know.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_06: And she like talks with a weird like Greek accent, she puts on a weird accent.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, she's weird.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_04: She was weird, and she like apparently owes Chateau Marmand in LA like like a hundred thousand dollars or something.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_04: Anyway.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_06: That's sad and expected.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_06: That's also very expected.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_06: But um so how can we uh find you online?
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_06: And do you have anything you want to plug at the moment?
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_04: Uh no, not really.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_04: Just to follow me on social media.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_04: Um, Twitter is a Dana D only.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_04: Um, and that's yeah, that's it.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_06: What about your podcast?
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_04: Oh, I I mean, okay.

- 1:16:12SPEAKER_04: We're like, it's our close friend story, and we like don't want it.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_04: Because okay, also like recently my boyfriend's parents found it and they're like mad at him because my boyfriend's on it sometimes.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but you can watch my podcast if you want.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_04: Um, it's on YouTube, uh, Young Old Podcast, or it's on Spotify and also the iTunes store, Young Old.
