Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Joliet, Illinois.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Today, after a long, long week, we're going to be talking about this Stone X report, carcass weights, as well as us sending more troops to the Middle East.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Cattle came up just a little bit yesterday.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Live cattle closed up about a half a buck at 223.18.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle were up two at 336.35.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs came back down.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: They gapped lower, but you know, bounced back just a little bit.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: They were down 50 cents at 68.93.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: As I quote the grain markets here live, like the shout out our sponsor plus 500.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: We use plus 500 T4 trading software to quote and trade the markets every single day.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And as I look here live, December corn is at 498 and a half.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Beans are ticking just a little bit lower right now.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: They're at 1275 even.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: And December Chicago week came up just a little bit overnight.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: It's at 684 and a quarter.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: The weather has been quite interesting here recently.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: The Central Plains and Western Corn Belt just closed out one of their wettest 30-day stretches on record, with several climate districts and estates pointing posting top five or record wettest readings.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Now there is going to be a real dry turn, and it is locking in essentially no rain for the big areas of the plains and Corn Belt for at least 10 days, maybe a little bit longer, which could finally open up some field work windows, even for some of the wettest spots of the Corn Belt, and that'll be great to see.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: The grain markets, this Stone X report, the October one, came out yesterday.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Figured I'd talk about it just a little bit here because you know we love independent reporting like that.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And Stone X's October survey put national soybean yield at 54.1 bushels per acre, raising the production by just over a hundred million bushels.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Corn yield was writ right at 182.1.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Nothing too out of whack there.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: It's kind of interesting.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to pause and look state by state the differences there.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: And maybe look at your home state and what they said.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: The Stone X report is always interesting to look at.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: This chart comes from Mr.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Mike Sands this morning for our livestock slide, and it talks about carcass weights.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Carcass weights, and this is what Mike says, have shown less seasonality over the last few years, with steer weights inching up from a later than normal summer low.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And it's as you can see, there's a trend where we start to pick up going in towards the fall, and it looks like we're going to follow that trend just at a little bit of a later pace.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Mike is calling for that upward turn and record weights to resume.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: We'll see what happens.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: It is interesting that we're shifting a little bit later, but at the same time, we're having cattle on feed for longer.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: So maybe it's just pretty par for the course right now.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: On to breaking news.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Deployment comes as President Trump has signaled an intention to resume strikes on Iran.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: This is after the November elections, though.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: We do say send our thoughts and prayers to the servicemen and women going over there to look after the U.S.'s best interest.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: We'll see what happens there.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: You know, it's always best to just um talk softly to carry a big stick.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Well, and we're certainly carrying a big stick right now.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: On the economic calendar for today, the jobs report comes out here in just a few minutes at 7.30 a.m.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: There's been some projections and some calls there, so make sure and pay attention to that.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Factory orders comes out at 9 a.m.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: and the commitment of traders comes out after the close at 2.30 p.m.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Central.
