- 0:00SPEAKER_00: It always astounds me how much bad information there is out there regarding diet and exercise and fitness and all of those things.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I will tell you, though, that something that worked for me, and I've shared this with many people, was fasting, and I know you're thinking, oh my gosh, you're going to destroy yourself by doing it.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: With me, I've actually found new life in not eating for extended periods of time.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Crazy as it may sound, it actually worked to my benefit where I was able to torch off one hundred and thirty-five pounds of fat over a period of just over seven and a half months.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: In doing so, the preparation to get to that point where I was able to go longer and longer and longer with fasting took a lot of practice.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: And some people would call practice failure.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: And it was just like all those diets that I did in the past.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I tried many different types, and I was that guy that did everything.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Every new book that came out, I was eating right for my blood type.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I was doing the Atkins, I was doing the no protein and very low fat.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: I was doing high protein and very low fat.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I was doing high protein, high fat, no carbs.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: That was the Atkins.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I was doing a lot of different things, switched over to carnivore and keto.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I never tried vegetarian or trying to go that way for the plant-based stuff, so I can't speak to that.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: But I can tell you that for me the fasting was the key to me unlocking and getting access to the stored body fat that I had on my frame.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And I still have, I still carry around some I'm able to still fast, and it really works out well for me.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: There'll be periods in my life of fasting and feasting and fasting and feasting.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Now when I'm feasting, I don't mean I'm abusing or blowing it out or going on a binge or a bender trying to get all the calories of all the worthless, processed and sugar enriched foods.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: I'm not talking about that.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: What I'm doing is I'm actually focused on eating healthy when I do eat, and then enjoying the fast when I'm not eating.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: The key, the critical component to all of this was me being able to establish a healthy, to establish a healthy refeed.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: When you're fasting for a period of time, and it comes time for you to break the fast or have your breakfast meal, break fast, breakfast meal.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Well, sometimes, if you haven't eaten for a while, you're going to want to gorge on things.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Whatever's in sight.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: That's where I was making an error for the longest time when I was fasting.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: So what I did is I started to focus on that refeed, and I prepared for it.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: So I looked at it almost as a religious event where that refeed was going to be a spectacular performance by me.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And I played that video over and over in my mind how that refeed was going to be.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Now, if I didn't prepare, as today I still have to prepare so I don't gain any of the fat back, I have to prepare when I go out.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: I have to prepare when I'm going to go into an event with people.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: I'm going to have to I need to prepare when I'm going to a place that serves food, a restaurant.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: And I actually think about that as I did when I was doing the breaking of the fast when I ate those meals.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: When I first started fasting, I didn't do that.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: I actually would totally blow it by eating probably as many, if not more, calories than I would have eaten if I would have just been eating normally without the fasting involved.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: So whatever I might have gotten rid of during the fast, of course, I was eating enough to put it back on and then some.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: So I kept I kept doing that fluctuation, that yo-yo uh dieting that they call it.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: And in some cases, you know, yo-yo dieting also applies to people just restricting their calories for a while, and then they go and they start eating more and more uh for the next time because they've been restricted so long, they're so hangry, you know, hungry versus angry, so they go in there and they attack it.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Looking at the refeeds was important, and then also looking at the way my body was performing when I wasn't eating for longer periods of time, and I didn't stop working out, I kept going to the gym, and if you ever see me at the gym, you'll see a very high level of intensity, because to me that's very important.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Usually, when you go to the gym, if you just stop and take a moment and kind of look around at what folks are doing, a lot of the people seem like they're confused, they don't have a plan when they go, they don't have a workout coordinated.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: And a lot of the folks don't know how to use the machinery because they haven't been shown or haven't been trained.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Now, some of the stuff's real simple, but the movements and techniques are a little complicated, and you want to do things in a certain way.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: There's an advantage, for example, when you're doing a row and you have your grip this way versus this way as you're pulling the bar, doing a lateral row for the back.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: And there also is a difference whether you're high or whether you're low, whether you're low with the lateral movement on how that affects and how it builds the back muscle of the latissimus dorsi.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: So that's part of why it's important to have a trainer, somebody that's going to show you the proper form.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: And then after that, once you get comfortable with those exercises, you'll be able to start building muscle because what you're doing is you're tearing down the muscle.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: But you don't tear it down unless you really work hard, and you don't tear it down until you get into failure.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: At least as far as I understand, having been doing this for a very long time, from what I see, that's a critical and very important part of the muscle building process.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Why muscle?
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Muscle is very advantageous to have.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: As a male, after time, we start to lose it if we don't retain it by working it out, by making it tired, by keeping it on our frame.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: The body's going to start letting it go slowly by burning it and not keeping it on the frame because it's not being used.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: So that's why working out, even if you don't want to build anything, you just want to maintain, working out five sets a week per body part is incredibly important.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: That's what I've read online, I've seen other videos talking about the minimum requirement to continue to keep that muscle on your frame.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Now you're going to watch videos about protein, how much do you need, and I think the general consensus is somewhere near one gram per body pound or per per um pound of body weight that you have.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: And then some say, well, it's only really div the lean muscle, so then you're going to have to go get tested and find out how much lean muscle you're carrying on your frame.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: And then they say, well, just eat one gram of protein per pound of lean body weight.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: So if you're super fat, like I was, I was 365, and I know some of you watching are probably larger than that, some of you not not that large, but I'm 6'1 as well.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: So I was able to carry it, but if you look at my videos, they are when I was 365, it was uh it was amazing.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Uh 65-inch waist and so on.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: But when you watch that, you watch those and you see where I've come, you can also get there.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: It's just gonna take you practicing the right way.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: And it's basically taking the habits that you had in the past and what you have today and changing those habits into something else.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: So you're like, wow, that's easily said, hard to do.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Absolutely it's hard.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: But being fat is also really hard.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: It's very difficult.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: It was hard for me to function in a normal way.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Just tying my shoes, just putting on pants, just taking a shower, just breathing was difficult because of all that extra fat on my skeletal frame.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: The next thing you need to do after you decide that yes, I do want to change, don't wait.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Start now.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Do your research.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Don't wait till Monday.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: Don't wait till you know the new year, don't wait till after we get through the holidays.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: What you want to do, you need to do when you are ready to do it.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: And ready to do it means now.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: If you delay, like I was a great delay fish, I would put I would put things on hold for a very long time.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Well, I have stuff coming up, and I'm gonna go out with friends, or I have things happening in my life that make it inconvenient for me not to eat.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: The other thing was the people I surrounded myself with, in some cases, because I had failed so many times in the past, they would look in and they would say, Really, you're gonna start this type of diet not eating?
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Well, that doesn't make any sense.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: But you talk to the doctors, you're the surgeons, you talk to people that have done fasting intermittently or longer term, and those benefits are gonna be there, but I would tell you to go talk to your doctor, do your research, and then break out of what your typical caloric-restricted diet may look like, if that's in fact what you're doing, and build an entire lifestyle around it.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: That's what I've done.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: So instead of looking at something as a diet and being very temporary only for a very limited time, because once you stop the diet, then all of a sudden you're going to continue with those old habits because you haven't done anything with them.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: They're still running in the background.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: These are programs that are continuing to run, and sometimes we do it very mindlessly.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: I know on our uh SCV Insider show that I have every Tuesday morning with Tim Blankenship with the Divorce 661 team, we get on there and we talk to people that come from different areas of life, people that have been uh personal trainers, people that are owners of restaurants, people that talk about food, talk about money, talk about business, internet.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: So it's not just weight loss or or fitness related.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: But even on the show, we've had people discuss different ways of losing weight.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: And if you look at the caloric restriction model and you look at that online, it hasn't worked.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: That's why the diet industry is billions and billions of dollars strong.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: That's why people are as sick as they've ever been, and people seem to be getting larger in society, more obesity out there than we've ever seen.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: And now the big difference that's kind of come up within the last 30, 40 years, if you have babies and children, toddlers and infants moving into preteens, having fatty liver, being obese, and they have fat on their liver because of what they're eating.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: And they're eating it because it's easily available.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: But so is water.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: You can get water, you can have a coke, you can make a decision which one you're gonna drink.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Now, once you start kids drinking that super sweet stuff, you know, you are the parent, you pull it away from them, it's gonna be a little difficult, but then they're not home, then they're at school, then they're doing other things.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: So you have to have them develop good habits.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: When you start the process, you want to surround yourself with people that are going to be supportive.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Easier said than done.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: You're gonna have your feeders amongst you.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: These are people that are going to enable you to want to eat.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: They're gonna say, Oh, why don't you try a little bit of this?
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: My response to trying a little bit of this, or why don't you just have one, just one thing, I've had it before.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: I've had this thing before.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: And if I haven't had it before, I've probably had something very similar.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: But at the end of the day, I want to walk away still feeling good, not like I overdid it, and not having the effects of having a bad diet, as they carry through to all sorts of areas of my life, not just the way I look physically, but the way I feel.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And that's very important to remember.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: The cost and price of you staying where you are is much more expensive and much more painful than what's going to happen when you change your habits and try to become something different and succeed.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: It takes time.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: It is going to be a lifelong, a lifelong endeavor for me.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: And I only send this video to you to maybe give you some guidance and there is hope.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Now, if you want to do a caloric restricted diet, great.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: But how long is that are you going to be able to do it?
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: And I would even say the same thing about fasting.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: If you're going to do a fasting focused type lifestyle with different times, maybe eating once a day or every other day or every few days if you're trying to torch off body fat, how long is that sustainable?
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: I would say once you develop those habits, it's sustainable forever.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: But it's really those habits that you have to change.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: And you're going to have to get down and dirty with yourself mentally and figure out what your triggers are to eat.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Because sometimes when I travel, I eat a lot.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: But when I'm not traveling, I don't.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm eating because of stress.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm eating because of some childhood trauma that I've been through.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm eating because of being uncomfortable, or maybe I'm eating because I'm fill in the blank.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's you.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: So identify those things.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: And instead of eating because you're stressed, maybe do something else, whatever that is.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: And food is so easy, food is so wonderful, food is so available.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: You can call people to bring it to your house from your favorite restaurants.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: You don't even have to leave the home.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: But maybe it would be better to sit down with yourself, take a moment before you indulge, and think maybe I'll indulge in me and not eat, and make an investment in myself.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: And in real estate, it's interesting, you have a house.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: And this is a great analogy I heard the other day.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: And that's what ties in the fat-to-fit realtor with all of this.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: You have a house, you own it.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Your body's your house, you own that.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: You don't want to take your house, the one that you live in, not this body, but your your house as a body, and you don't want to go and you don't want to put on a crappy roof or, you know, cause it damage or put holes in the walls and all these other things.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: You want to take care of it.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: You want to make sure that you keep your house and your real estate that you own in the best shape possible.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Now, of course, we're not going to maybe update as much as we could.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: We might not do that.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: But with your body, you have those same choices.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: You can put different things in it that are going to feed it right and going to take care of it, or you can go out there and obliterate it and fill it full of junk, causing you a lot of issues in the future.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: I'm Connor.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: It's a pleasure.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Please subscribe and please like, and we will talk to you in the next one.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Be well, everybody.
- 14:13unknown: So early in the year.
