- 0:34Speaker 2: variety of topics with Orlando Brown Junior, including why he

- 1:15Speaker 2: since the breakfast sandwich at day Lily Deli. It occurs
- 1:20Speaker 2: to me that quite a few of my greatest things
- 1:23Speaker 2: are food items. Hopefully I've never steered you wrong. And
- 1:26Speaker 2: my latest recommendation is the egg on a roll at
- 1:29Speaker 2: the day Lily Deli in the Columbia Tusculum neighborhood of Cincinnati.
- 1:35Speaker 2: That's what it's called on the menu, but I order
- 1:37Speaker 2: it with eggs, American cheese and getta, and it is
- 1:41Speaker 2: tremendous if you're not from Cincinnati. Getta is a sausage
- 1:45Speaker 2: patty with oats and spices, similar to scrapple in other
- 1:49Speaker 2: parts of the country. In any case, the day Lily
- 1:52Speaker 2: Deli breakfast sandwich is big, delicious and not that expensive.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And now that I've described it for I might just
- 2:01Speaker 2: have to get one on Monday morning. Now let's get
- 2:04Speaker 2: to football and the radio replays from the Bengals first
- 2:08Speaker 2: ever regular season win in Arizona. Burrow is set, stops
- 2:13Speaker 2: the right foot, catches the snap from Karris looking right,
- 2:16Speaker 2: scrambling right, throws it.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Back in the raft and is caught in the back
- 2:21Speaker 1: of the end zone. Jamar Chase doing the gritty for
- 2:25Speaker 1: the first time in twenty twenty three, and the Bengals
- 2:29Speaker 1: take a six nothing lead. The Bengals will settle for
- 2:32Speaker 1: a forty yard field goal try for Evan McPherson. Robbins catches,
- 2:36Speaker 1: places the ball down. Here comes the kick gets on
- 2:39Speaker 1: its way and it is good. Three receivers right, two left,
- 2:42Speaker 1: tops back to throw. He's gonna float it downfield over
- 2:46Speaker 1: the shoulder. Catch, made it the five yard line and
- 2:49Speaker 1: it's a touchdown for Hollywood Brown. He got a step
- 2:53Speaker 1: on Jalen Davis and Dobbs made a perfect throw.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, he did.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Dobbs in the gun, he has the ball.
- 3:00Speaker 1: He's back to throw his pass caught right at the
- 3:02Speaker 1: goal line for a touchdown. Guess who zach Ertz Who
- 3:07Speaker 1: spikes it emphatically As the Cardinals take the leaves. Burrow
- 3:10Speaker 1: in the shotgun on fourth down and goal from the one,
- 3:13Speaker 1: mixing lines up to his right. Burrow hands it to Mixon.
- 3:16Speaker 1: He goes oh, waiting for the signal. No touchdown signal, Yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 1: they say he did not get in.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Wow.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Second down and ten, the Cardinals at their own one,
- 3:27Speaker 1: Dobbs to throw his pass, picked off, Bengals have it
- 3:31Speaker 1: tam Taylor into the end zone and the Bengals get
- 3:36Speaker 1: a touchdown after all.
- 3:37Speaker 3: About it amazing, amazing.
- 3:42Speaker 2: First and ten Bengals from their own thirty seven. Burrow
- 3:44Speaker 2: will fake two, Mixing he's gonna fling it deep down
- 3:48Speaker 2: field for Jamar Chase.
- 3:50Speaker 4: He catches it at the ten.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And takes it into the end zone. Touchdown, Bengals sixty
- 3:58Speaker 1: three yards. The magic is back as Burrow throws it
- 4:03Speaker 1: deep and Chase takes it into the end zone for
- 4:06Speaker 1: the long touchdown.
- 4:08Speaker 2: First and ten at the Cincinnati eleven. They give it
- 4:10Speaker 2: to de Mercado, running wide to the left, gets away
- 4:13Speaker 2: from Pratt, Logan Wilson grabs him lunches toward the pylon.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Touchdown Arizona. Fourth and one, the Cardinals going for it
- 4:21Speaker 1: in the red zone. Dobbs catches a high snap, runs
- 4:24Speaker 1: to the right and gets hit by Pratt and tack
- 4:28Speaker 1: not short of the first down. The Bengals defense stops
- 4:32Speaker 1: the Cardinals on fourth and one, Jermaine Pratt bringing Dobbs
- 4:37Speaker 1: to the ground and the Bengals get the ball back.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Burrow catches the shotgun snap fakes to Mixing. Now scrambling
- 4:44Speaker 1: up the middle of the field, He takes off and
- 4:45Speaker 1: runs thirty five, goes into a feet first slide with
- 4:48Speaker 1: a first down, gives the first down signal, drops the
- 4:52Speaker 1: ball like dropping the mic. After running to the thirty
- 4:55Speaker 1: eight for a ten yard.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Game, the CAF is no longer an issue.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Second and goal from the three burrow in the gun
- 5:02Speaker 1: he catches at the eight. He fakes to mix and
- 5:04Speaker 1: now rolling to the right, back pedaling to the thirteen,
- 5:07Speaker 1: throws Jamar Chase on the back line of the episode
- 5:12Speaker 1: with his third touchdown catch as he sets on new
- 5:16Speaker 1: Bengals record with his fourteenth catch up the game.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Unbelievable.
- 5:22Speaker 1: On first and ten, Dobbs with a play action faigure
- 5:25Speaker 1: comes the rush. Hendrickson knocks the ball out. The Bengals
- 5:28Speaker 1: dive after and appear to recover at the twenty eight
- 5:32Speaker 1: yard line. A strip sack for Trey Hendrickson.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Unbelievable and that's the fifth fumble by Dobbs and he's
- 5:39Speaker 3: lost three of them. Trey Henderson strips.
- 5:42Speaker 1: It, Sam Hubbard recovers it. H Boys five minutes two
- 5:46Speaker 1: seconds to go, fourth down and two for the Cardinals.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Dobs back to throw from the pocket, bouncing throws broken
- 5:52Speaker 1: up and intercepted. It was deflected up in the air.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Jermaine Pratt comes down with the ball.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Down fourth down, but those instincts are you go get
- 6:03Speaker 3: the football.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Joe Burrow called it a must win game for the
- 6:06Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals and the Bayou Bengals. Burrow and Chase combined
- 6:11Speaker 1: to make sure that they got that win. Three touchdown
- 6:14Speaker 1: catches Burrow to Chase and a franchise record fifteen receptions
- 6:19Speaker 1: for Jamar. The Bengals win it by the final score
- 6:23Speaker 1: of thirty four to twenty. With the win, the Bengals
- 6:26Speaker 1: are two and three and just a game behind the
- 6:28Speaker 1: Ravens and Steelers in the AFC North. After Pittsburgh beat
- 6:32Speaker 1: Baltimore on Sunday seventeen to ten. The Browns had a
- 6:36Speaker 1: bye and are a half game ahead of Cincinnati at
- 6:39Speaker 1: two and two. Now, let's take you inside the locker room,
- 6:43Speaker 1: beginning with Joe Burrow. The guy who looked as mobile
- 6:46Speaker 1: as the Statue of Liberty last week in Tennessee looked
- 6:50Speaker 1: well normal in Arizona. Burrow moved around in the pocket
- 6:54Speaker 1: when needed, and even had that ten yard scramble that
- 6:58Speaker 1: had Jamar Chase shaking.
- 6:59Speaker 5: His I looked around and turned that TN sa T,
- 7:02Speaker 5: what the hell is he doing? I don't know if
- 7:03Speaker 5: T harrit me, but I definitely he turned around and looked
- 7:05Speaker 5: at T like, what the hell? I mean, if he
- 7:08Speaker 5: feels good and he feels like he could run do it.
- 7:10Speaker 5: I'm not gonna tell you him what to do. You know,
- 7:12Speaker 5: I already don't listen to him.
- 7:13Speaker 2: It was a hell of a performance, and Dave Lapham
- 7:16Speaker 2: discussed it with Burrow after the game.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Thirty six for forty six, three hundred and seventeen yards,
- 7:24Speaker 3: three touchdowns of an interception, and you said, look, I'm fine,
- 7:28Speaker 3: My CAF's good, and you proved it today.
- 7:30Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:30Speaker 4: I finally felt pretty close to back to normal.
- 7:33Speaker 6: Was able to extend some plays, and if the quarterback
- 7:36Speaker 6: can't do that, it's hard.
- 7:37Speaker 4: To move the ball.
- 7:38Speaker 6: So I was happy to be able to steal some
- 7:40Speaker 6: first downs, extend some players get some big plays today.
- 7:43Speaker 3: So when did you know? I mean, obviously you had
- 7:46Speaker 3: a good feeling going into the football game, but at
- 7:48Speaker 3: one point, at what point in the football game did
- 7:51Speaker 3: you know? You know what I can do just about
- 7:53Speaker 3: ever anything? That three sixty looked pretty pretty impressive.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Yeah, first first touchdown.
- 7:58Speaker 6: I was able to extend it a little bit and
- 8:00Speaker 6: it felt great, so I was I was good to
- 8:02Speaker 6: go after that.
- 8:03Speaker 3: So when you guys, you and Jamar Jamar club record
- 8:08Speaker 3: fifteen catches, one hundred and ninety seven yards, three touchdowns.
- 8:12Speaker 3: When you and Jamar are seeing things the way you're
- 8:15Speaker 3: seeing things, can you guys be stopped?
- 8:17Speaker 6: Well, we were able to execute really well today. I
- 8:19Speaker 6: was excited about that. We all see. We still left
- 8:22Speaker 6: some points out there, left some yards out there, so
- 8:24Speaker 6: we got to get that corrected. But we're gonna continue
- 8:26Speaker 6: to get better.
- 8:27Speaker 3: How valuable is it to have a guy like Jamar
- 8:30Speaker 3: that can line up anywhere and do anything in your
- 8:32Speaker 3: offense and then other receivers doing the same thing. I
- 8:35Speaker 3: remember back in the day, we had like one or
- 8:37Speaker 3: two guys that could do that. Now all your receivers
- 8:40Speaker 3: do that. How big a deal is that for you?
- 8:41Speaker 4: Yeah, we're as deep as we've ever been.
- 8:43Speaker 6: We've you know, and Tea was out today and Andre
- 8:46Speaker 6: and Trenton stepped up big for us.
- 8:47Speaker 4: That's that's what you need out of those kind of guys.
- 8:49Speaker 4: So it was exciting to see that.
- 8:51Speaker 3: So you said early on in the week. It's a
- 8:54Speaker 3: must win, and you played like it was a must win.
- 8:57Speaker 3: I mean, you pack, you backed it up. I don't
- 8:59Speaker 3: think there's anybody more competitive than you. How big is
- 9:02Speaker 3: this win? Big win?
- 9:03Speaker 4: But we want to know this week.
- 9:05Speaker 6: We're going to celebrate tonight, come back tomorrow, gotta be
- 9:07Speaker 6: want to know next week too.
- 9:09Speaker 3: And then you're in the by three and three at
- 9:11Speaker 3: the by. If you can get that W that's huge,
- 9:12Speaker 3: isn't it.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Yeah, we're focused on winning this week. So we just
- 9:14Speaker 4: got to have a great week of practice, continue.
- 9:16Speaker 3: To get better. Do you guys scoreboard watch? Did you
- 9:19Speaker 3: know that the Pittsburgh Steelers had knocked off the Baltimore Ravens.
- 9:22Speaker 4: No? I did not, so that's obviously a plus. We
- 9:25Speaker 4: just got to keep doing what we're doing.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Appreciate you, Joe.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Yeah. Thanks.
- 9:29Speaker 2: With three offensive touchdowns, the Bengals equaled their total from
- 9:32Speaker 2: the first four games of the season, and they also
- 9:35Speaker 2: got their first defensive touchdown of the year on that
- 9:38Speaker 2: critical eleven yard pick six by Cam Taylor Britt with
- 9:42Speaker 2: one twenty three left in the first half. It gave
- 9:45Speaker 2: the Bengals a lead they never relinquished, and I caught
- 9:49Speaker 2: up with a second year pro out of Nebraska. Damn,
- 9:53Speaker 2: congratulations your first.
- 9:55Speaker 1: NFL hit six. It could not have come at a
- 9:57Speaker 1: bigger time. Described that moment and that's the man.
- 10:01Speaker 7: Honestly, it was just you know, something that we always
- 10:03Speaker 7: worked on that practice. I got a bigger practice this weekend.
- 10:06Speaker 7: It was somewhat at the same play, man, And you know,
- 10:08Speaker 7: everything comes around full circle, and it did.
- 10:10Speaker 8: Uh, we were.
- 10:11Speaker 7: Talking about it right before the playing at random Slidton.
- 10:13Speaker 7: I just jumped a routing you know, got the ball.
- 10:16Speaker 7: He use my boss get.
- 10:17Speaker 1: It was such a big swing in momentum because the
- 10:20Speaker 1: Bengals had just been stopped on fourth and goal inside
- 10:23Speaker 1: the line that looked like the Cardinals might be able
- 10:25Speaker 1: to take a league to halftime. And and that was
- 10:28Speaker 1: a momentum swing that really helps the Bengals win the game.
- 10:31Speaker 8: Yeah, most definitely, man.
- 10:32Speaker 7: But you know we love to stand up against those
- 10:34Speaker 7: those times, man, especially as the defense, you know, holding
- 10:36Speaker 7: the offense. When something goes wrong, we try to get
- 10:39Speaker 7: the ball back and you know as fast as possible.
- 10:41Speaker 7: You know, who would have wanted the ball to.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Joe Burrows in two picks for the defense a fourth
- 10:46Speaker 1: down stop, multiple sacks for Trey Hendricks, and the defense
- 10:50Speaker 1: made a lot of big plays today.
- 10:52Speaker 7: Yes, sir man, that's a that's you know, bigals defense football.
- 10:55Speaker 7: That's that's what you guys love, man, That's what you
- 10:57Speaker 7: know the fans know.
- 10:58Speaker 8: That's us.
- 10:59Speaker 1: You know is playing four games in before. You know,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you guys did to see that.
- 11:03Speaker 7: We love turnovers, man, and we we feed off of it.
- 11:05Speaker 4: You see, the teams be his offense.
- 11:07Speaker 7: So you know what, we're on ourp's and q's and
- 11:09Speaker 7: all team man, everybody is.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Joe described it earlier this week as a must win situation.
- 11:14Speaker 1: You guys are going home with a win. What's it
- 11:17Speaker 1: mean in this locker room?
- 11:18Speaker 7: It means a lot, man, honestly. And also we got
- 11:20Speaker 7: all we don't have to take this long ass trip back,
- 11:22Speaker 7: but it is so you know, it's a blessing, man,
- 11:25Speaker 7: it is a blessing. But you know we had to
- 11:27Speaker 7: get this dub. It was it was needed, and uh yeah,
- 11:30Speaker 7: that's that's about it.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I don't know if you're aware of it, but fifteen
- 11:33Speaker 2: catches for Jamar's ther new franchise record. He nearly had
- 11:36Speaker 2: two hundred yards. How about the borrow to Chase show.
- 11:39Speaker 1: It looked vintage today, man, most definitely.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Man.
- 11:41Speaker 7: You can see that lsuit's connection. First year guys back,
- 11:45Speaker 7: you know, back together. H You can see it, man,
- 11:47Speaker 7: and he's very excited.
- 11:49Speaker 1: So I looked it up. You had a pick six
- 11:50Speaker 1: in Nebraska. It's now even one in the NFL. Fun
- 11:55Speaker 1: in college.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Oh don't worry.
- 11:57Speaker 7: I don't we guys get a couple bore in the NFL.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I was hoping you would say that. Oh yeah, congratulations
- 12:02Speaker 1: on the wind.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Thank you so much.
- 12:04Speaker 2: The Bengals Booth Podcast is brought to you by pay Corps,
- 12:07Speaker 2: proud to be the Bengals Official HR software provider, by
- 12:10Speaker 2: Alta Fiber future Proof Fiber Internet designed to elevate your home,

- 12:18Speaker 2: Health the best care for the best fans. Kettering Health
- 12:22Speaker 2: is the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. It was
- 12:26Speaker 2: a record setting day for Jamar Chase, who broke Carl
- 12:29Speaker 2: pickens twenty five year old team record for most catches
- 12:32Speaker 2: in a single game. Pickens had thirteen against the Steelers
- 12:36Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety eight. Jamar finished with fifteen grabs for
- 12:40Speaker 2: one hundred and ninety two yards against the Cardinals. Apparently
- 12:44Speaker 2: he wasn't lying when he said he is always bleeping open.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Lap spent a couple of minutes with him after the game.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Team record fifteen catches, one hundred and ninety two yards,
- 12:57Speaker 3: three touchdowns. Talk about it. What was working for you today?
- 13:00Speaker 5: Everything offense is feeling the electric today. You know, Zach
- 13:04Speaker 5: calling great plays, old line, give me Joe good enough
- 13:07Speaker 5: time to throw the ball today, and Joe just reading
- 13:10Speaker 5: the coverages and getting the tour with He's.
- 13:13Speaker 3: So Joe looked like he was moving like Joe. I mean,
- 13:16Speaker 3: he looked like he was in out of pocket, in pocket,
- 13:19Speaker 3: climbing the pocket, doing everything. I mean, did you know
- 13:23Speaker 3: Joe better than anybody was Jojoe?
- 13:25Speaker 4: Yeah, he looked good today.
- 13:26Speaker 8: Man.
- 13:26Speaker 4: He ran the ball twice.
- 13:27Speaker 5: On the second time he ran, I looked at him crazy,
- 13:29Speaker 5: like what the hell are you doing? You know, But
- 13:32Speaker 5: if he's feeling good, he can take off like that.
- 13:34Speaker 5: You know, I'm glad to see that.
- 13:36Speaker 3: So what about a guy like Trenton Irwin. Higgins can't go,
- 13:40Speaker 3: he's got a little bit of a rip problem. Trenton
- 13:42Speaker 3: Irwin steps up, makes a bunch of plays for you
- 13:44Speaker 3: as a receiver, punt returner. I mean he's a pros pro,
- 13:48Speaker 3: isn't he?
- 13:49Speaker 5: Yeah, Tia' is a great, great guy for us.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Man.
- 13:51Speaker 5: He works out every day, is always in his playbook,
- 13:54Speaker 5: and you know he's one of those guys that we
- 13:55Speaker 5: can move anywhere anywhere on the field and move all
- 13:57Speaker 5: the way around, you know. And that's the good thing
- 13:59Speaker 5: about Tiah. He's always working.
- 14:00Speaker 3: And then we like that you said you're always hoping,
- 14:03Speaker 3: and that's no, that's all that is is truth. You're
- 14:06Speaker 3: always hoping.
- 14:06Speaker 4: Man, Hey man, it's only guy.
- 14:10Speaker 6: Man.
- 14:10Speaker 4: God gifts, God gives.
- 14:12Speaker 3: What'd you say to your dad when you gave him
- 14:14Speaker 3: the football?
- 14:15Speaker 5: Uh No, he just asked me for the first touchdown ball,
- 14:17Speaker 5: and you know I told him if I get it again,
- 14:19Speaker 5: I'm a bringing to me immediate a second time. So
- 14:22Speaker 5: you know, it's just me and my dad having a
- 14:23Speaker 5: little fun time interacting at the game.
- 14:26Speaker 3: So this is I think maybe the third time you've
- 14:29Speaker 3: had three touchdown catches in the game. How how big
- 14:33Speaker 3: is that when you score three times in one football game.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I'm just defense is just not playing my way. You know.
- 14:42Speaker 5: They they let me say they are playing my way
- 14:44Speaker 5: as I's just say, uh, they're giving me the looks
- 14:46Speaker 5: that I want. You know, we see the looks that
- 14:48Speaker 5: the corners are too far off, safety is not getting
- 14:51Speaker 5: across the field, so you know, we just take advantage
- 14:53Speaker 5: of the opportunities.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Finally, how many different places did you line up today?
- 14:57Speaker 3: I mean, you're you're you're an intelligent football player and
- 15:00Speaker 3: you can line up anywhere do anything. How many different
- 15:02Speaker 3: ways were you used today?
- 15:04Speaker 5: I was pretty much all over the fair number two
- 15:06Speaker 5: and number three backveil.
- 15:08Speaker 1: One thing I didn't do today with.
- 15:09Speaker 5: Ketch a handoff out the backfield, So I mean this
- 15:12Speaker 5: is gonna come.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Congratulations man, unbelievable performance. You're a stud, brother.
- 15:17Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Other studs included Jermaine Pratt with a team high ten tackles,
- 15:23Speaker 2: an interception, and that key fourth down stop in the
- 15:26Speaker 2: third quarter. Trey Hendrickson had two and a half sacks
- 15:29Speaker 2: in a forced fumble, and how about Trenton Irwin. Eight
- 15:33Speaker 2: catches for sixty yards, four punt returns for sixty eight
- 15:37Speaker 2: more and some great blocking on the perimeter on screen
- 15:40Speaker 2: passes to Chase and Tyler Boyd. Burrow and Chase are
- 15:44Speaker 2: going to get the headlines, but Zach Taylor stressed that
- 15:48Speaker 2: it was a total team win.
- 15:52Speaker 9: We got really good players and they're gonna get all
- 15:54Speaker 9: the attention because they're a great job and they make
- 15:56Speaker 9: the plays that come to them, but the guys around
- 15:58Speaker 9: them also support them as well as any group could,
- 16:01Speaker 9: you know. And the times that they tried to take
- 16:02Speaker 9: away Jamar, those other guys are stepping up. And offensive
- 16:05Speaker 9: line did a tremendous job working different protections keeping.
- 16:08Speaker 1: The pressure off of him today.
- 16:09Speaker 9: And so really proud of of the offense, really probably
- 16:12Speaker 9: this whole team coming out with a victory.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Trent Irwin, do you speak of a guy he's ten
- 16:17Speaker 3: ten targets, eight catches, sixty yards, a couple of punter
- 16:21Speaker 3: three punt returns that he had. We're outstanding, you know,
- 16:23Speaker 3: dictating field position. He blocked on those receiver screens, you know,
- 16:27Speaker 3: so effectively. He's a pros pro, isn't he? Yeah?
- 16:29Speaker 9: You can trust him to do any job, and he
- 16:31Speaker 9: knows all the positions on offense. You trust him to
- 16:34Speaker 9: plug him in there and make the players that come
- 16:36Speaker 9: to him. He does a great job with his technique.
- 16:38Speaker 9: He gets every ounce of potential he's got in that body.
- 16:41Speaker 9: And we're lucky to have him.
- 16:43Speaker 3: So you get a quarterback Dobbs who who didn't head
- 16:47Speaker 3: and thrown an interception all season long, and it doesn't
- 16:50Speaker 3: work out on fourth down at the goal line and
- 16:51Speaker 3: you get a pick six his first interception he throws
- 16:53Speaker 3: all year, Cam Taylor Britt takes him back to the house.
- 16:56Speaker 3: How big was that?
- 16:57Speaker 9: That was a big momentum swing right there. You know,
- 16:59Speaker 9: they got to stop hoping for good field position coming back.
- 17:02Speaker 9: Cam's got great hands. They came in handy right there.
- 17:05Speaker 9: So that was a big play that we needed right
- 17:07Speaker 9: before the half.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Did you know at any point during the course of
- 17:10Speaker 3: the football game that Pittsburgh had beaten Baltimore? Did you
- 17:13Speaker 3: know what that what that outcome?
- 17:15Speaker 1: What?
- 17:15Speaker 9: I didn't know that one? That doesn't matter to us
- 17:18Speaker 9: right now. You know again, we just were so early
- 17:20Speaker 9: in the season. Just take care of what we can
- 17:22Speaker 9: take care of, and just our history in this league
- 17:25Speaker 9: tells us if you take care of what you take
- 17:26Speaker 9: care of at the end of the day, the things
- 17:28Speaker 9: that you want, we'll be right there in front of you.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Jermaine Pratt had the interception. He had like ten total tackles.
- 17:34Speaker 3: A couple of tackles for loss. I mean he was
- 17:37Speaker 3: extraordinary today as well.
- 17:38Speaker 9: Yeah, Jermaine stepped up in a big way. Such a
- 17:40Speaker 9: smart player. Really proud of him, Really proud of all
- 17:43Speaker 9: those guys that stepped up on defense. Put a lot
- 17:45Speaker 9: of pressure on their quarterback, created the turnovers, had sacks,
- 17:49Speaker 9: had some big third down and fourth down stops, and
- 17:51Speaker 9: so again they played great, great defensive football today for us.
- 17:55Speaker 3: So when you went on that first drive and executed,
- 17:59Speaker 3: you know, and got the third down touchdown on the
- 18:01Speaker 3: first third down of the game, get a red zone
- 18:03Speaker 3: touchdown out of it, did you think this looks like
- 18:06Speaker 3: things might be pretty good today. Yeah.
- 18:07Speaker 9: I mean that's how it was last week.
- 18:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 18:09Speaker 9: I think our first start down was the same situation,
- 18:11Speaker 9: and so it's just good to continue to improve. There
- 18:14Speaker 9: I show and that was a good start. Defense got
- 18:16Speaker 9: a three and out, offense went down and scored seven,
- 18:18Speaker 9: and that's the start we were looking for today.
- 18:20Speaker 3: So coach on to Seattle. Seattle comes to Cincinnati. What's
- 18:25Speaker 3: your first thought when Seattle comes to mind?
- 18:28Speaker 8: I have no idea.
- 18:29Speaker 3: I haven't started there in four years.
- 18:32Speaker 9: Shane Waldron is one of my best friends in this profession.
- 18:34Speaker 9: The offensive coordinator. But I don't know anything about their
- 18:37Speaker 9: defense right now, so we'll find that out tonight tomorrow.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Well, I certainly you certainly did study and get a
- 18:43Speaker 3: lot of knowledge on what kind of defensive presence the
- 18:46Speaker 3: Arizona Cardinals had, because you guys, you guys picked them
- 18:49Speaker 3: apart pretty well. It was. It was fun to watch
- 18:51Speaker 3: coach congratulates on a big win. Appreciate it.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Seeattle had to buy this weekend. We'll come to town
- 18:56Speaker 2: next Sunday with a three and one record after dropping
- 19:00Speaker 2: their opener at home to the Rams, the Seahawks have
- 19:03Speaker 2: won three straight over the Lions, Panthers, and Giants, and
- 19:07Speaker 2: in that New York game, the Seahawks set a team
- 19:10Speaker 2: record with eleven sacks.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Yikes. Now time for the radio guys recap lat Joe
- 19:19Speaker 1: Burrow called it a must win in the middle of
- 19:22Speaker 1: the week. When Joe has his heart set on something,
- 19:24Speaker 1: he usually makes sure that it happens. And he looked
- 19:27Speaker 1: like Joe Burrow again.
- 19:29Speaker 8: Today he did.
- 19:30Speaker 3: I mean, he had the look in the in the
- 19:34Speaker 3: hotel this morning. I saw him at pregame meal and
- 19:37Speaker 3: he had that like I'm not going to be denied
- 19:40Speaker 3: to look kind of you know that Joe has when
- 19:41Speaker 3: he's like lasered in and there was no distracting him.
- 19:46Speaker 3: He wasn't talking to anybody, he wasn't socialize. He was
- 19:49Speaker 3: like bo laser focused. And he ended up going out
- 19:53Speaker 3: there and stepping up and playing really good football and
- 19:56Speaker 3: that that calf, you know.
- 20:00Speaker 8: He said he.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Pressed it a couple of times early on, felt good,
- 20:06Speaker 3: and he just kept making as many plays as he could.
- 20:09Speaker 3: He wasn't about to be denied.
- 20:10Speaker 1: It's funny you talked about that with a pregame meal
- 20:12Speaker 1: because we were down for breakfast together early in the morning.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Joe was down there earlier than usual. ESPN is running
- 20:18Speaker 1: an endless loop of Burrows bad plays this year, you know,
- 20:22Speaker 1: graphics about how he struggled statistically. It's got to be
- 20:26Speaker 1: strange when you know you're sitting in a room with
- 20:29Speaker 1: your friends and teammates and every TV screen in the
- 20:32Speaker 1: room is showing how badly you've struggled. It is.
- 20:35Speaker 3: I mean, I can't imagine what it's like to me
- 20:40Speaker 3: to live in the life that Joe Burrow lives. As
- 20:43Speaker 3: we got on the first buses to come over to
- 20:45Speaker 3: the stadium, there's like two families of like eight kids
- 20:50Speaker 3: that were all within three years of each other. I
- 20:53Speaker 3: think that all were tow heads, all had on Joe
- 20:56Speaker 3: Burrow jerseys. The parents were there. I mean, is I'm
- 21:01Speaker 3: not saying that he's you know, not not Kelsey and
- 21:07Speaker 3: his girlfriend yet Taylor Swift. But I mean, I don't.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I don't know how you live with that kind of fame.
- 21:12Speaker 3: It's got to be a it's got to be a
- 21:14Speaker 3: very challenging life for sure.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Well, he was terrific in the game, three hundred and
- 21:18Speaker 1: seventeen passing yards, three touchdowns, an interception when his wide
- 21:21Speaker 1: receiver slipped, a passer rating of one eight. If he
- 21:25Speaker 1: can move like he moved today, the Bengals offense is
- 21:28Speaker 1: going to be.
- 21:29Speaker 8: Fine, no question.
- 21:30Speaker 3: I mean, I said, at what point in the game,
- 21:32Speaker 3: did you feel like, you know, after you did what
- 21:35Speaker 3: you did physically that that you know it was? He's
- 21:38Speaker 3: I said, was it that three sixty? He goes, yeah,
- 21:40Speaker 3: that was I felt pretty good after that. And there
- 21:43Speaker 3: there a few times he said, when I climbed the
- 21:45Speaker 3: pocket and had to side step for two people, and
- 21:48Speaker 3: I didn't feel any effects from that. So I mean
- 21:50Speaker 3: I think he was, uh, he was top shelf. I mean,
- 21:55Speaker 3: that's that's what they had.
- 21:57Speaker 8: In this league.
- 21:58Speaker 3: You have to have that. I mean, that's that's the
- 22:00Speaker 3: only way to survive in this league.
- 22:02Speaker 1: As Jamar Chase put it last week, he's always bleeping
- 22:05Speaker 1: open franchise record fifteen catches for a single game.
- 22:08Speaker 2: The record had lasted twenty five years by Carl Pickens.
- 22:11Speaker 2: At thirteen catches just under two hundred yards. It would
- 22:14Speaker 2: have been his third two hundred yard game and three
- 22:16Speaker 2: touchdowns to tie a single game record there.
- 22:19Speaker 3: And I said, how many different places did you line
- 22:23Speaker 3: up and how many different places were you utilized today?
- 22:26Speaker 3: He started rattling on like about a litany list of.
- 22:31Speaker 8: How he was used.
- 22:32Speaker 3: He goes, the only thing, you know, I didn't get
- 22:34Speaker 3: a handoff at the running back position. We're going to
- 22:35Speaker 3: work on that kind of put that in the repert
- 22:38Speaker 3: to Rberant. I mean, the thing is that he's in
- 22:41Speaker 3: a situation where it's not just it's all the receivers,
- 22:44Speaker 3: all of them. I mean, they can all line up
- 22:47Speaker 3: multiple places and do multiple things, and they're always ready
- 22:51Speaker 3: to play. I mean they're so well coached and Trent
- 22:53Speaker 3: Irwin pros pro stepped up to do and showed you
- 22:56Speaker 3: know what he's all about. He was ready to roll.
- 23:00Speaker 1: So the play of the day late in the first half,
- 23:02Speaker 1: after Bengals get stopped on fourth and goal from the one,
- 23:05Speaker 1: they turn right around and get a pick six from
- 23:07Speaker 1: Cam Taylor Britt that gives them the halftime lead and
- 23:10Speaker 1: completely swung the momentum in this game.
- 23:12Speaker 3: No doubt. I mean Zach. I was talking to Zach
- 23:15Speaker 3: about that in the post game and he said, that was,
- 23:18Speaker 3: you know, a huge momentum scenario there. He said, you know,
- 23:21Speaker 3: we were thinking we were going to get a good
- 23:23Speaker 3: field position, you know, stuffing back there and said when
- 23:26Speaker 3: when when that happened? That was you know, you get
- 23:29Speaker 3: a freebe like that, You get a non offensive, nonscript
- 23:33Speaker 3: score like that after being stopped on fourth in the
- 23:37Speaker 3: goal line situation. Man, you go from the lowest loads
- 23:40Speaker 3: to the highest to high and it's it's it's emotional recharge.
- 23:44Speaker 2: We often talk about complimentary football. This game a bit
- 23:47Speaker 2: amized it. Good hunt returns by Trenton Irwin. Money Mack
- 23:51Speaker 2: makes all of his field goals, defense comes up with
- 23:54Speaker 2: a couple of takeaways in several sacks, and obviously Burrow
- 23:57Speaker 2: and Chase I respectacing.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no doubt. I mean, it's the scenario we're
- 24:02Speaker 3: just talking about. The offense stumbles and gets no points
- 24:05Speaker 3: in the low red zone, and then the defense comes
- 24:08Speaker 3: right back and scores on you know, literally the next play.
- 24:11Speaker 3: I mean that that's compromary football at its highest compliments, honestly,
- 24:15Speaker 3: And when stuff like that happened, you think this might
- 24:18Speaker 3: be our day. We may be in a situation where
- 24:21Speaker 3: here if we can avoid mistakes. And I was talking
- 24:23Speaker 3: to Zach about how neither team offense or defense was
- 24:29Speaker 3: penalized well into the third quarter. I mean three penalties called,
- 24:31Speaker 3: all of them on special teams, and it was the
- 24:34Speaker 3: only turnover at that point was the was to pick six.
- 24:37Speaker 3: It was a very well played, you know, football game
- 24:40Speaker 3: with a lot of football intelligence. He said, that's what
- 24:42Speaker 3: they're about, he said, that's the identity they want to have,
- 24:45Speaker 3: so hopefully they build on it.
- 24:47Speaker 2: It wasn't perfect. They're still struggling to pick up some picks,
- 24:50Speaker 2: twist and stunts on the offensive line, and I still
- 24:53Speaker 2: don't think they run it as well as they would
- 24:56Speaker 2: like to. But when you can go on the road
- 24:57Speaker 2: and win by fourteen, doesn't happen that often.
- 25:01Speaker 8: In the NFL team it doesn't.
- 25:02Speaker 3: And this opponent, you know, the record sometimes doesn't really indicate,
- 25:07Speaker 3: you know, the brand of football. And they were playing
- 25:09Speaker 3: and I think they've already played some pretty turn your
- 25:12Speaker 3: football teams and been in the game with him, beat
- 25:14Speaker 3: their wins against the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, that's a
- 25:18Speaker 3: quality football team. And like we always say, the National
- 25:21Speaker 3: Football League is definitely seventeen one week seasons. There's no
- 25:26Speaker 3: two ways about it. And you have to you'd take
- 25:29Speaker 3: a win from Clark, mentalize, move on, accept the defeat
- 25:32Speaker 3: from Clark, mentalized, move on, and see what happens.
- 25:35Speaker 1: So the next one week's season is a home game
- 25:37Speaker 1: against Seattle. If they can win it, get to five
- 25:41Speaker 1: hundred going into the buy, you talk about how much
- 25:44Speaker 1: better the team would feel about itself, the city would
- 25:46Speaker 1: feel about the team. I mean, the entire mood changes
- 25:49Speaker 1: if they can win one more game.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Absolutely, And I was stunned how many guys didn't know
- 25:54Speaker 3: the Pittsburgh beat Baltimore. When I said it to Trent
- 25:57Speaker 3: Hervey goes, this is the first I'm hearing it.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Wow.
- 26:00Speaker 3: There were multiple guys in that situation, and Zach was like,
- 26:03Speaker 3: I didn't I didn't really even check into it through
- 26:05Speaker 3: the game starters, and it has no impact on what
- 26:07Speaker 3: I have to do in this football game. So, I mean,
- 26:10Speaker 3: they are definitely focused on their tasks. There's no question
- 26:14Speaker 3: about that. They're right back in the thick of it now, Dan,
- 26:17Speaker 3: I mean, shoot, if they can get it done against
- 26:19Speaker 3: Seattle going to the buy three and three, there's gonna
- 26:22Speaker 3: be no worse in the game out.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Isn't it nice when you're the bearer of good news?
- 26:27Speaker 8: It really is?
- 26:28Speaker 3: It really is, because they were like, really, the looks
- 26:31Speaker 3: on the faces were priceless.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it should be easy to get radio show guests
- 26:36Speaker 1: this week. We like that too.
- 26:38Speaker 3: That's a fact. I'm telling you. Victory Monday. Who Victory
- 26:42Speaker 3: Monday is so much more fun down there at pay
- 26:44Speaker 3: Corps when you have three hours of radio to fill.
- 26:48Speaker 2: We don't know our player guests yet, but on Wednesday
- 26:51Speaker 2: night from six to eight, will be at game on
- 26:53Speaker 2: Sports Bar and White Oak for the Bengals Game Plan Show.
- 26:56Speaker 2: And on Friday afternoon from three to six, we'll be
- 26:59Speaker 2: at the Wings and Rings location in Greendale, Indiana for
- 27:02Speaker 2: the Bengals pep Rally Show. Now, time for this week's
- 27:06Speaker 2: fun Fact segment, where you get to know the person
- 27:09Speaker 2: under the pads. Time for some fun facts with Orlando
- 27:14Speaker 2: Brown Junior, the son of a great NFL offensive lineman
- 27:18Speaker 2: that everybody called Zeu, says in the King of the Gods, Orlando,
- 27:23Speaker 2: one of the best TV feature stories I have ever
- 27:26Speaker 2: seen was the NFL film story about you and your dad.
- 27:30Speaker 2: In it, Bill Belichick talked about his love for your father,
- 27:33Speaker 2: and there was great footage of your dad just destroying
- 27:36Speaker 2: people in the NFL. His playing career ended when you
- 27:39Speaker 2: were nine. What if anything do you remember about it.
- 27:42Speaker 10: I remember a lot, man, you know, I would say
- 27:44Speaker 10: around seven years old is when I kind of maybe
- 27:49Speaker 10: even a little bit before that, maybe like right around
- 27:51Speaker 10: six years old. I like, I feel like that's when
- 27:54Speaker 10: I really start being able to see the game, understand it,
- 27:57Speaker 10: really pay attention to him, the intricacies of situations, short yard,
- 28:01Speaker 10: it's two minutes, the flow of a game, starting to
- 28:05Speaker 10: understand concepts a little bit, you know, run this specifically
- 28:09Speaker 10: to the run game.
- 28:10Speaker 8: Uh.
- 28:10Speaker 10: And I mean it was so much to learn from him,
- 28:13Speaker 10: Just as you said, man, he played so long. He
- 28:15Speaker 10: also played with the great Jonathan Ogden. Uh So, Man,
- 28:18Speaker 10: it was just it was so much knowledge and so
- 28:20Speaker 10: much just great fundamentals for me to see at such
- 28:23Speaker 10: a young age. I times that, man, Honestly, I still
- 28:26Speaker 10: you know, look back at those moments man and reminisce,
- 28:28Speaker 10: you know, thinking about, you know, how great they were,
- 28:31Speaker 10: but also how hard they worked. You know, man, they
- 28:33Speaker 10: were they were. My dad was someone that really really
- 28:36Speaker 10: loved the game. And you know, he was a defensive
- 28:38Speaker 10: tackle in college and then his last year of college
- 28:41Speaker 10: they moved him to offensive tackle and he was in
- 28:43Speaker 10: a speed option wing T system, so he didn't really
- 28:46Speaker 10: have a lot of familiarity with the pro style offense
- 28:48Speaker 10: and man, so he really really really worked hard to
- 28:52Speaker 10: get those fundamentals down, and you know, I was able
- 28:54Speaker 10: to basically be at the forefront and see all of
- 28:56Speaker 10: it first hand.
- 28:58Speaker 2: There was a terrible accident in his playing career. We're
- 29:01Speaker 2: an official through his flag and it hit your dad
- 29:04Speaker 2: in the eye, And for people that don't know, there
- 29:06Speaker 2: are weights inside a flag so that they don't just
- 29:08Speaker 2: flutter away. It cost him three years of his career.
- 29:12Speaker 2: He was temporarily blind in one of his eyes. How
- 29:15Speaker 2: did that affect him? And your entire family.
- 29:18Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean it definitely had a huge effect on us.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Man.
- 29:21Speaker 10: You know, my parents surely divorced after the incident. You know,
- 29:25Speaker 10: we pretty much He was you know, doing a lot
- 29:28Speaker 10: of rehab, having to go through the lawsuit of New
- 29:30Speaker 10: York City, trying to work out and get back in
- 29:32Speaker 10: the NFL, bouncing back and forth between Baltimore and Miami.
- 29:36Speaker 10: He was working at I think it was IMG Academy
- 29:38Speaker 10: at the time, and you know, he was trying to
- 29:41Speaker 10: make sure he stayed in play, in shape while also
- 29:43Speaker 10: going through this lawsuit. Man, with the NFL. It took
- 29:46Speaker 10: somewhat of a big toll on my family, you know.
- 29:48Speaker 10: But ultimately, man, you know, he was able to come
- 29:51Speaker 10: back and finished career how he wanted to.
- 29:53Speaker 1: When you were young, he didn't want you to play football.
- 29:57Speaker 8: Why not?
- 29:58Speaker 10: Well, you know, he has such a path. You know,
- 30:01Speaker 10: he was born in Washington, d C. Man born and
- 30:04Speaker 10: raised in Washington, D C. In the seventies and eighties,
- 30:07Speaker 10: and you know, we all know, man, that was you know,
- 30:09Speaker 10: a very hard time for a lot of you know,
- 30:11Speaker 10: young black men during that time in that city. And
- 30:14Speaker 10: you know, he didn't he felt like he had very
- 30:16Speaker 10: few opportunities, and so you know, it was a lot
- 30:19Speaker 10: for him to understand. My my grandmother was a janitor
- 30:22Speaker 10: pretty much most of her life. My grandfather drove taxis,
- 30:26Speaker 10: so you know, it was he had a lot of
- 30:28Speaker 10: unfamiliarity with the path that he took, and so his
- 30:31Speaker 10: path was so hard and so difficult.
- 30:32Speaker 8: Man.
- 30:33Speaker 10: I feel like for a long time, you know, he
- 30:35Speaker 10: kind of held onto that and really didn't want me
- 30:37Speaker 10: or my siblings to kind of go through that type
- 30:39Speaker 10: of mental pain or mental endurance or whatever it was.
- 30:43Speaker 8: Man. But you know, for for everything that.
- 30:46Speaker 10: He did keeping me out of ball as long as
- 30:48Speaker 10: he did, I mean, I think it was the best
- 30:49Speaker 10: thing that ever happened to me.
- 30:51Speaker 1: We're visiting with Orlando Brown Junior. I have a son,
- 30:54Speaker 1: and watching him succeed in sports, it's one of the
- 30:57Speaker 1: great joys of parenthood. But when he struggled, that can
- 31:01Speaker 1: be very hard as a parent. And when your dad
- 31:03Speaker 1: first watched you play, it was hard for him when
- 31:06Speaker 1: you didn't dominate.
- 31:07Speaker 8: Correct, Yeah, it was very hard for him.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Man.
- 31:09Speaker 10: There was numerous times, especially in my first few games, Man,
- 31:13Speaker 10: he's leaving me, you know, he's dropping me off of
- 31:15Speaker 10: the game and I'm expecting to ride home with him,
- 31:18Speaker 10: and he's gone, and you know, ultimately, man, he just
- 31:20Speaker 10: he wanted wanted to see me play physical. He wanted
- 31:23Speaker 10: to see me play hard. You know, I was I
- 31:24Speaker 10: was obviously new to the sports, so I didn't really
- 31:27Speaker 10: comprehend that all in all, but you know, he wanted
- 31:29Speaker 10: me to see he wanted to see me finish blocks,
- 31:31Speaker 10: and so man, once I started finishing blocks, man playing
- 31:34Speaker 10: with that emotion, that passion, you know, he was very,
- 31:37Speaker 10: very happy and proud to proud to be there and
- 31:39Speaker 10: support me.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Once you started playing, you were all in. I heard
- 31:43Speaker 2: you say in an interview that you used to go
- 31:45Speaker 2: to bookstores and just spend weekends looking at NFL strategy books,
- 31:51Speaker 2: looking at NFL rules. I mean, you were trying to
- 31:54Speaker 2: learn the game, unlike most of your young peers.
- 31:57Speaker 8: I'm guessing because he wouldn't let me play.
- 32:00Speaker 10: Fortunately, he let me watch it and read it, so
- 32:03Speaker 10: you know, that was you could say, my vice at
- 32:04Speaker 10: a young age, I would go to Barnes and Nobles
- 32:06Speaker 10: with my brothers and my uncle Man and Saturdays Fridays
- 32:10Speaker 10: after school we'd be there watching or you know, sometimes
- 32:14Speaker 10: watching the NFL network. Other times, Man, I'd be reading
- 32:17Speaker 10: books on you know, some of the great players to
- 32:19Speaker 10: play the game, like Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, their stories,
- 32:22Speaker 10: Jerry Rice's story, you know, even dating back to some
- 32:26Speaker 10: of the older guys. Man like a friend Tarkenton, Uh,
- 32:28Speaker 10: you know his story, man, guys like a guy, so many,
- 32:32Speaker 10: so many, like so many great players in this league.
- 32:35Speaker 10: But I had to spend a lot of time studying
- 32:38Speaker 10: and understanding the game, and studying the offensive line position,
- 32:41Speaker 10: studying everything to take everything it takes mentally physically to
- 32:45Speaker 10: be a pro. And at an early age. Man, I mean,
- 32:47Speaker 10: I think that was something that had a really it
- 32:50Speaker 10: still does have a really big impact on who I
- 32:52Speaker 10: am today as a pro.
- 32:53Speaker 2: So when it came time to go to college, you
- 32:55Speaker 2: picked Oklahoma. You had gone to high school in the
- 32:58Speaker 2: Washington area, then in jets to Atlanta. What were your
- 33:02Speaker 2: initial thoughts on Norman, Oklahoma.
- 33:04Speaker 10: You know, I've got a tricky story on that. You know,
- 33:06Speaker 10: I was originally on my way to Tennessee University of Tennessee.
- 33:10Speaker 10: I had committed there when I was a junior in
- 33:12Speaker 10: high school. And at the time, man, they didn't check
- 33:15Speaker 10: my test scores and my grades my transcripts, and so Man,
- 33:19Speaker 10: at the time of heading into that last semester of
- 33:21Speaker 10: my senior year, Man, I had a one point seven GPA.
- 33:24Speaker 10: I had a thirteen on the ACT and I Christmas
- 33:28Speaker 10: treat the.
- 33:28Speaker 8: Test and I lost my scholarship to University of Tennessee.
- 33:33Speaker 10: And so basically what happened was, you know, we I
- 33:36Speaker 10: go up there for my official visit. Bus Jones lets
- 33:39Speaker 10: me know, hey, you know we're not gonna be able
- 33:40Speaker 10: to give you a scholarship. Long story short, they had
- 33:42Speaker 10: thirty three commits. They only had thirty one scholarships. That's
- 33:45Speaker 10: one of the guys that got pulled, which is understandable
- 33:47Speaker 10: based off the circumstances. And I got back to Georgia,
- 33:50Speaker 10: talked to my high school coach. He asked me where
- 33:52Speaker 10: I wanted to go. I had never visited Oklahoma. The
- 33:55Speaker 10: coaches had never visited me. And I just looked him
- 33:58Speaker 10: his eyes. I said, Coach Man, I think University of
- 34:01Speaker 10: Oklahoma was where God wants me to be. And sure enough, Man,
- 34:04Speaker 10: we got on the phone with Coach Stoops. We called
- 34:07Speaker 10: starting at his assistant at the office, Miss Julie, and
- 34:11Speaker 10: from there we got on the phone with coach Stoops
- 34:13Speaker 10: and coach Hipel coach Beatabo, and they offered me a
- 34:16Speaker 10: scholarship since the n l I. I signed it and
- 34:19Speaker 10: took my official visit in April. After I signed, and
- 34:22Speaker 10: I was a Leaden Row Lead. I enrolled July twenty fourth,
- 34:25Speaker 10: twenty fourteen on campus.
- 34:28Speaker 1: It certainly worked out well. The Sooners finished in the
- 34:31Speaker 1: top five all three seasons that you played for them.
- 34:35Speaker 1: You helped Baker Mayfield with the Heisman Trophy or final season.
- 34:39Speaker 1: It appears that you and Baker were really tight.
- 34:41Speaker 8: It's an interesting story.
- 34:42Speaker 10: It's kind of a funny story because so we came
- 34:45Speaker 10: in together my class coming in Oklahoma. It was me,
- 34:48Speaker 10: Baker Mayfield, Mark Andrews, Somaj p Ryan Davante, Bond, some
- 34:53Speaker 10: other names as well, some other names of guys that
- 34:56Speaker 10: still got a great relationship with. But we all kind
- 34:58Speaker 10: of came in together and spent a lot of time
- 35:00Speaker 10: on scout team red Shirt in that year, and so
- 35:02Speaker 10: we would whip up on a defense man and I
- 35:05Speaker 10: got to know Baker for you know, just because of
- 35:07Speaker 10: his work ethic. You know, I was a guy who
- 35:09Speaker 10: worked really hard. I'd get in there at five thirty
- 35:11Speaker 10: in the morning and be working all my sets with
- 35:13Speaker 10: our strength coach, and he'd already be fully in strenched
- 35:16Speaker 10: in sweat, throwing footballs and trash cans at five am. So, man,
- 35:20Speaker 10: we just kind of grew a natural bond from there.
- 35:22Speaker 10: And then obviously it's college, so took a few beers
- 35:24Speaker 10: with him here and there we got closer, and then
- 35:26Speaker 10: our moms met each other, and our moms got close.
- 35:29Speaker 10: It's crazy, man, So you know that's my guy.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Football fans a little bit north of here are still
- 35:35Speaker 1: a little bit salty from Baker planting the flag in
- 35:38Speaker 1: the middle of the field after a victory at Ohio State.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Were you partly responsible for that because of a pregame speech.
- 35:46Speaker 8: Yeah, I definitely take coole responsibility.
- 35:47Speaker 10: Man, it's the first time I might have openly come
- 35:50Speaker 10: out about this, But I had no idea that this
- 35:54Speaker 10: is something Ohio State does, win or lost. And so
- 35:57Speaker 10: Lincoln Riley at the time, our head coach, me and
- 36:00Speaker 10: Baker to speak to the team, and he's during separate times.
- 36:03Speaker 10: So I developed a whole power point, and the start
- 36:06Speaker 10: of my PowerPoint was the Ohio State team singing on
- 36:09Speaker 10: our field in twenty sixteen, and so you know, I
- 36:13Speaker 10: just I remember showing that clip, you know, showing our
- 36:15Speaker 10: bad plays looking up in the crowd, teammates, coaches, everyone's
- 36:19Speaker 10: face is red, angry, frowned up, and you know I
- 36:23Speaker 10: just mentioned. You know, look, man, when we win in
- 36:26Speaker 10: the Horseshoe this year, we're gonna set it on fire.
- 36:30Speaker 8: And so and so. I.
- 36:32Speaker 10: You know, it's something we do every time we play
- 36:34Speaker 10: University of Texas. Man, we plant the flag in the
- 36:35Speaker 10: middle of a field. That's our thing. It's funny because
- 36:39Speaker 10: the Horseshoe is turf, so the flag doesn't stick there.
- 36:43Speaker 8: But I'll take a little bit of responsibility for that.
- 36:46Speaker 2: We're chatting with Orlando Brown. Junior Sprinting and lifting weights
- 36:50Speaker 2: are not your forte. So the NFL scouting combine did
- 36:54Speaker 2: not go particularly well, and instead of being a first
- 36:57Speaker 2: round draft pick, you wound up being a third round
- 36:59Speaker 2: draft pick. How did that affect you?
- 37:01Speaker 10: You know, Man, still to this day, it gives me
- 37:02Speaker 10: a really big chip on my shoulder. You know, I
- 37:05Speaker 10: ended up in an amazing situation though. Man, I got
- 37:07Speaker 10: drafted to my hometown team, franchise that I grew up
- 37:11Speaker 10: in the building, literally on the daily. Man, my entire life,
- 37:15Speaker 10: it seemed like, and it was so many familiar faces.
- 37:18Speaker 10: I didn't have to learn a new city. I didn't
- 37:21Speaker 10: have to learn shortcuts to work when the snow or traffic,
- 37:24Speaker 10: all of those little things. And you know, I wasn't
- 37:26Speaker 10: It wasn't new to the city. So you know, a
- 37:28Speaker 10: lot of things that other rookies had to go through.
- 37:30Speaker 10: I didn't necessarily have to deal with that. But man,
- 37:34Speaker 10: I mean I ended up in a tremendous situation, man
- 37:36Speaker 10: with a great organization, And you know, man, I don't
- 37:40Speaker 10: I definitely don't regret you know, where I got drafted,
- 37:42Speaker 10: but ultimately I do wish I was a first round pick.
- 37:45Speaker 10: But everything happens for a reason, you know. I think
- 37:48Speaker 10: I ended up at the right spot in the right time.
- 37:50Speaker 1: In your second year in the NFL, you made the
- 37:52Speaker 1: Pro Bowl. You've made it every year since. Some guys
- 37:55Speaker 1: don't like to talk about personal goals, but you don't
- 37:58Speaker 1: shy away from that. What are some of the things
- 38:01Speaker 1: that you are still determined to accomplish?
- 38:03Speaker 10: Man, First and foremost, Man, I want to bring a
- 38:05Speaker 10: Super Bowl to the city. That's the first thing on
- 38:07Speaker 10: my mind and my heart that you know, it is
- 38:09Speaker 10: really important to me. Secondly, man, obviously being the best
- 38:13Speaker 10: player in the world at my position, you know, on
- 38:15Speaker 10: All Pro left tackle, first team All Pro left tackle,
- 38:18Speaker 10: and you know, continuing to make those Pro Bowls, and
- 38:21Speaker 10: you know, man, I ultimately, you know, I want to
- 38:23Speaker 10: be you know, a great, great leader in the community
- 38:25Speaker 10: here in Cincinnati as well.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Time for some wild card topics now with Orlando Brown junior,
- 38:32Speaker 2: you carry a lucky foxtail everywhere you go. Why on
- 38:36Speaker 2: God's Green Earth do you carry a lucky foxtail?
- 38:40Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 38:40Speaker 10: Well, man, it was just something I kind of started
- 38:42Speaker 10: in college my my wrestler freshman year, and I feel
- 38:45Speaker 10: like good things been happening to me since.
- 38:47Speaker 8: Man.
- 38:47Speaker 10: So I remember I bought the first one and I
- 38:50Speaker 10: kind of won the job, and my freshman year I
- 38:53Speaker 10: was like, I'm gonna go buy a few more.
- 38:54Speaker 8: So I bought a.
- 38:55Speaker 10: Few more, and I don't know, man, it's just become
- 38:57Speaker 10: a part of my swag and who I am. I
- 38:59Speaker 10: don't know, is is this part of me?
- 39:01Speaker 3: Now?
- 39:02Speaker 1: How many do you have?
- 39:03Speaker 8: I got like twelve? The YEP tweet is outen.
- 39:07Speaker 2: A as you put it, You're trying to help Cincinnati
- 39:11Speaker 2: win a Super Bowl, but you were part of a
- 39:13Speaker 2: Super Bowl team last year with Kansas City. What are
- 39:16Speaker 2: some of your fondest memories of the week and then
- 39:19Speaker 2: the game itself of the week?
- 39:21Speaker 8: Man, we as an old line.
- 39:23Speaker 10: I remember the guys mentioned that Bert Krishner was coming
- 39:27Speaker 10: to town, and you know the machine. He's hilarious, and
- 39:31Speaker 10: so you know, I'm like, man, I wonder if this
- 39:33Speaker 10: guy will give us backstage passes. So I d m
- 39:35Speaker 10: him and like a man fan, and he got us
- 39:39Speaker 10: backstage passes, and so, man, I remember we we went
- 39:42Speaker 10: and watched the show at the Arizona State Basketball Stadium
- 39:44Speaker 10: and he led us backstage. Man, we chopped it up
- 39:47Speaker 10: with him a little bit. That was so cool. And
- 39:49Speaker 10: then during the game, you know, it's it's it's one
- 39:53Speaker 10: of the most exciting games of your life, you know,
- 39:55Speaker 10: playing in the Super Bowl, because it's something you dream of.
- 39:57Speaker 10: Unfortunately for me, I didn't lose my first one. But man,
- 40:01Speaker 10: it was such a such a crazy experience. I just
- 40:03Speaker 10: I remember Jerck McKinnon sliding uh in that in that
- 40:07Speaker 10: situation when not much time left and coming back in
- 40:09Speaker 10: the huddle looking at me like.
- 40:10Speaker 8: I could have scored. It's a super Bowl it was
- 40:13Speaker 8: that was that was something that always kind of stick
- 40:15Speaker 8: with me.
- 40:16Speaker 1: You signed a lucrative free agent deal in the off season.
- 40:19Speaker 1: What do you like to splur John.
- 40:22Speaker 10: Gosh, Man, it really depends, Uh, you know I do.
- 40:26Speaker 10: I did grow up with my dad playing in the NFL,
- 40:29Speaker 10: so you could call me boogie.
- 40:31Speaker 8: I am somewhat boozy.
- 40:34Speaker 10: Man Splurging'm I gonna say I'm a big splurger, but
- 40:37Speaker 10: I do like nice clothes.
- 40:39Speaker 1: What is something about Orlando Brown Junior that very few
- 40:42Speaker 1: people know?
- 40:46Speaker 10: You know, obviously you do with me on the regular,
- 40:47Speaker 10: but you know a lot of people don't know, uh
- 40:50Speaker 10: how personal I am.
- 40:51Speaker 8: You know how personable I am?
- 40:53Speaker 10: And uh, you know, man, I really enjoy you know,
- 40:56Speaker 10: being able to interact with people, get to know people.
- 41:00Speaker 10: There's always something to take from someone, no matter you know,
- 41:03Speaker 10: how they classify themselves, where they're classified socially.
- 41:06Speaker 8: Whatever it may be.
- 41:08Speaker 10: I always enjoy man getting to talk to people, hearing
- 41:10Speaker 10: people's stories, understanding the way that people think.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Final fun fact for Orlando Brown Junior, And this one's
- 41:17Speaker 2: kind of deep. If you could meet anybody in history, athlete, actor, statesman,
- 41:24Speaker 2: religious figure, whoever that person might be, who would it be.
- 41:28Speaker 10: I would have loved I have had an opportunity to
- 41:30Speaker 10: talk to Kobe Bryant, you know, just understanding his approach,
- 41:36Speaker 10: his mental toughness, his ability to focus on the now.
- 41:42Speaker 10: You know, he was someone that was very present in
- 41:44Speaker 10: the moment when he played his sport. And you know,
- 41:48Speaker 10: it's very rare that, you know, you get guys like that.
- 41:50Speaker 10: You know, I think in football, you know, Tom Brady
- 41:53Speaker 10: is a guy like that. Muhammad Ali was a guy
- 41:56Speaker 10: that was like that in his sport that was very
- 41:58Speaker 10: you know, in the moment. And I would love to
- 42:00Speaker 10: be able to talk to those guys, ask questions about
- 42:04Speaker 10: you little things like that, small things like that about
- 42:06Speaker 10: their mental in that moment.
- 42:08Speaker 2: It's great to have you in Cincinnati. Your dad would
- 42:11Speaker 2: be very proud. Appreciate your time, Appreciate you.
- 42:13Speaker 8: Thank you.
