- 0:04Speaker 1: So I was getting connected today and I overheard a
- 0:07Speaker 1: conversation between Sal, mikey A and Taylor. There were two
- 0:12Speaker 1: conversations that were happening. One was about World Cup soccer tickets.
- 0:16Speaker 2: It was annoying.
- 0:16Speaker 1: The other one was Sally just blurting out saying, Hey,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I need to get back to the gym. I need
- 0:21Speaker 1: to get in shit. Do you know what me and
- 0:23Speaker 1: fucking mikey A would give to be in your type
- 0:26Speaker 1: of shape?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Sal, I mean honestly, oh no, no.
- 0:29Speaker 3: First of all, well I appreciate that, but you only
- 0:30Speaker 3: see me from like the chest up kind of I've
- 0:33Speaker 3: gotten dude, I've gained like twenty pounds. It was the
- 0:36Speaker 3: stress of that damn midday show and my former partner
- 0:38Speaker 3: BT driving me nuts. I put on my twenty I
- 0:41Speaker 3: gotta get back. I want to get in that close
- 0:42Speaker 3: to Taylor shape here. I gotta hit the gym now.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, but Taylor is an athlete, you're not.
- 0:47Speaker 4: I mean, we went on plays off.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I used to be in decent why shuld I was
- 0:54Speaker 3: really really fat a long time, Like I was two
- 0:56Speaker 3: hundred and thirty pounds. Then I started to get in
- 0:59Speaker 3: shape a little bit and then I've lost it. Yeah,
- 1:01Speaker 3: I got married, had a kid, had the schedule that
- 1:03Speaker 3: I couldn't work out. It got lazy, and I find
- 1:06Speaker 3: late nights nights, especially now a baseball season, I'm snacking
- 1:09Speaker 3: away the Met's game, the Yankee game, pretzels.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Chips, dip oh, just in baseball season, huh huh.
- 1:17Speaker 3: After football Sundays or football Saturdays for college and then
- 1:20Speaker 3: sud I can't stop.
- 1:22Speaker 4: But I do have to get back to the gym. R.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I heard Taylor saying he only goes to the gym
- 1:26Speaker 2: three days a week only.
- 1:29Speaker 5: I mean, jeezus, So this is kind of like if
- 1:32Speaker 5: Josh Hart came out and was like, I wish I
- 1:34Speaker 5: was the athlete lebron is. You guys just kind of
- 1:36Speaker 5: have to realize we're all just playing different games here.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, what game am I playing? I don't know.
- 1:43Speaker 5: I don't think you are.
- 1:45Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:45Speaker 3: But you're winnings to that's for sure, whatever game you're playing.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Yes, I do think, though I.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Know Taylor's an next I do think like you could
- 1:52Speaker 3: still get in shape. You don't have to be in
- 1:53Speaker 3: former you know, unc football player shape, but quality shape.
- 1:57Speaker 3: You know, you have no interest in I gotta I
- 1:59Speaker 3: gotta do it. I mean, I'm wanted. Also, it makes
- 2:01Speaker 3: me healthier to produce better on the air. Maybe they'll
- 2:03Speaker 3: get maybe they'll get hired. So much like there are
- 2:05Speaker 3: all things to me that go that get involved. Maybe
- 2:07Speaker 3: I'm too fat. That's why I got fired from the fan.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Right, I don't think there's not a direct correlation to
- 2:13Speaker 1: the amount of times you go to the gym and
- 2:14Speaker 1: what job you get or if you get a job.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I don't think right, more time at the gym means
- 2:18Speaker 1: less time at work, you know, Taylor.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Would you agree though that working out, healthy mind, healthy body,
- 2:25Speaker 3: feeling good, confidence up, maybe more likely to have more
- 2:28Speaker 3: success in other areas of life.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Yeah, it puts me in a good position because I'm
- 2:33Speaker 5: working out so much and I have so much time
- 2:35Speaker 5: to myself that I get extra time to listen to podcasts,
- 2:40Speaker 5: listen to radio. So that's how I'm stealing other people's takes.
- 2:44Speaker 5: I'm so proud of you, I.
- 2:45Speaker 6: Mean, Taylor, how happier are you that Izzy isn't in
- 2:50Speaker 6: this conversation and now you are the poster child for
- 2:53Speaker 6: fitness on the podcast because if he's.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Here, we're not even talking to you about this.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Yeah, so is he's in better shape than me? But
- 3:00Speaker 5: I'm a better athlete than is he.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yes, it's a great point by Mikey because we're recording
- 3:05Speaker 1: this in around twelve forty five in the afternoon. Izzy
- 3:09Speaker 1: is on his second trip to the gym.
- 3:14Speaker 2: He is a leg trainer.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Sal, I mean, and I've seen the pictures on Instagram?
- 3:19Speaker 3: What would you rather be? I would rather be in
- 3:22Speaker 3: easy shape than be the better athlete. I mean, I'm
- 3:24Speaker 3: forty six. Who cares about being an athlete? I know
- 3:26Speaker 3: Taylor's all about being Andrew Jones in center field on
- 3:29Speaker 3: a softball team, But forget you could have the athlete.
- 3:32Speaker 4: I'd rather be in easy shape.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd rather look like Izzy period. As a discussion,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I just want to look like Izzy.
- 3:38Speaker 6: I mean, twenty five year old me, I'm going Taylor's
- 3:41Speaker 6: route right now.
- 3:41Speaker 4: I don't have to run again if I could just
- 3:45Speaker 4: look like Izzy.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I can't recall the last time I walked past someone
- 3:49Speaker 1: of the opposite sex and they looked at me in
- 3:51Speaker 1: a way that was like yearning, you know, including my wife.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I mean.
- 4:00Speaker 3: No that I've been getting beaten down by that. Oh
- 4:02Speaker 3: you should go to the gym. Or I'm like, all right,
- 4:03Speaker 3: I gotta sorry, I need to this time. You can't
- 4:05Speaker 3: do this because I have to go to the gym.
- 4:07Speaker 3: She's like, yeah, okay, you're going to the gym. Like
- 4:08Speaker 3: I've heard that before.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Now my wife take it.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, my wife tells me that as well.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And I'm like, is it going to make a difference, Like, okay,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I go to the gym and what otherwise I'm just
- 4:16Speaker 1: going to the gym.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I mean, who wants to do that.
- 4:18Speaker 7: I mean there's gotta be a beg off right, Yes,
- 4:22Speaker 7: maybe there was a little carrot being dangled, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 7: all right, maybe this could happen after you go out there,
- 4:26Speaker 7: they go to the gym for a couple of days
- 4:28Speaker 7: and then maybe more likely to go to the gym.
- 4:30Speaker 6: So I don't go to the gym in case you
- 4:32Speaker 6: guys haven't figured that out. But I did the first
- 4:36Speaker 6: like hopeful encouraging thing. And I bought a pickle ball
- 4:40Speaker 6: set the other day because I was down in Florida
- 4:42Speaker 6: last weekend and I was playing pickleball with my nephews
- 4:45Speaker 6: and I was like, you know what, I get the
- 4:47Speaker 6: hype now, I see what everybody's really into Now. I
- 4:50Speaker 6: bought the set because it was on sale, and now
- 4:52Speaker 6: I'm sitting there going is that.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Am I going to be looking at this pick a Ball.
- 4:55Speaker 6: Set the way you look at your gym bag, where
- 4:57Speaker 6: it's just gonna sit in the corner collecting.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Dust yell them to five years ago? I mean I
- 5:04Speaker 2: fought it hard. You finally caved in.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I mean everyone in Florida has one, so you have
- 5:09Speaker 1: to get one to fit in, you know exactly.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I feel like you crossed the line for pick a ball.
- 5:13Speaker 4: That's it.
- 5:14Speaker 3: You might as well move to Florida, retire to day.
- 5:17Speaker 2: It's over it, right, you give it up.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Trying to get me to do you can give it
- 5:20Speaker 1: up on sports I am trying to get you to
- 5:22Speaker 1: do that.
- 5:22Speaker 2: I would love you to move down here, please Jesus.
- 5:25Speaker 1: But when you go to pick a ball, He's right,
- 5:27Speaker 1: it's like, you know, it's glory, It's it's mini tennis,
- 5:29Speaker 1: it's bing, but it's glorified.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Ping boh. You've given up? Yes, yes, sal over.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Over the course of let's say, thirty forty forty five
- 5:40Speaker 1: fifty years of sports radio at sports media, is there
- 5:45Speaker 1: a host you can think of that is more enamored
- 5:48Speaker 1: with US history and presidential books, meaning books about president's
- 5:56Speaker 1: autobiography is about presidents. Can you think of anyone other
- 5:59Speaker 1: than Christopher mad Dog Russo who loves these two things
- 6:02Speaker 1: the way Israel loves the gym?
- 6:06Speaker 3: No, Doggie, I mean, I remember him and Mike talking
- 6:09Speaker 3: about it where they would get going. Even Evan Roberts
- 6:12Speaker 3: was a big presidential guy, but Dog the way he
- 6:15Speaker 3: attacks it in the same exact manner that he would
- 6:18Speaker 3: break down a Packers Giants game or a SF Giants
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yankees game. There's nothing better than.
- 6:25Speaker 1: That breaking down an election, the electoral votes, I mean,
- 6:29Speaker 1: all of it. He's like that guy who's got John
- 6:31Speaker 1: King on CNN. He's unbelievable. He's the best thing going
- 6:34Speaker 1: on TV. He's incredible.
- 6:36Speaker 6: Yeah, Mike, I feel like I feel like the guys
- 6:39Speaker 6: who read those books are just doing it so that
- 6:42Speaker 6: they can jump in in any conversation and bring up
- 6:45Speaker 6: the fact that they read those books. Like I feel
- 6:47Speaker 6: like torture for mad Dog is me and Stu get
- 6:50Speaker 6: to have a conversation about a president and he can't
- 6:53Speaker 6: chime in, even though he knows every interesting fact about
- 6:57Speaker 6: that president, what he did every day, what he ate
- 6:59Speaker 6: every day and all that stuff.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Right, I don't need to read the books to chime in, though,
- 7:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's a president four years.
- 7:05Speaker 2: They were decent, you know, HiT's you. I can get
- 7:09Speaker 2: that quit essential you.
- 7:10Speaker 3: No.
- 7:11Speaker 1: But when I did every Friday with dog Sal he
- 7:13Speaker 1: had me. He wanted me to read a book. I
- 7:14Speaker 1: think about Harry Truman.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I mean, that's what he was making you do every
- 7:20Speaker 3: Friday and listen to this book. Although those book recommendations,
- 7:24Speaker 3: he would come in and just give the most bizarre
- 7:26Speaker 3: book recommendations ever.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Doggie, come on, relax.
- 7:29Speaker 2: He's crazy and we love him.
- 7:31Speaker 1: So, Taylor, what happened here? Because I am told we
- 7:33Speaker 1: have sound here of Christopher Maddog. We're so talking about
- 7:36Speaker 1: some US presidents.
- 7:37Speaker 5: Yeah, so this sound is from mad Dog unleashed yesterday.
- 7:40Speaker 5: He's talking about one of those books that he read
- 7:43Speaker 5: and something he learned in that book about Ulysses S.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Grant and Abraham Lincoln's relationship, and it's it is a
- 7:52Speaker 5: fantastic journey through Mad Dog's mind as he kind of
- 7:55Speaker 5: weaves through this.
- 7:56Speaker 2: And love it now.
- 7:57Speaker 8: Grant, of course, the Union general, Lincoln's favorite general and
- 8:01Speaker 8: his best huge alcoholic tank got crazy, and then of
- 8:05Speaker 8: course the president for eight years and try to run
- 8:07Speaker 8: again the third time, and Garth Throud beat him. Anyway,
- 8:10Speaker 8: he wrote a you know, he did the Q and
- 8:12Speaker 8: A with the author who wrote the Grant biography. And
- 8:17Speaker 8: this is a Chris Christie recommendation this book, by the way,
- 8:19Speaker 8: so he'll give him the credit. But he wrote the
- 8:23Speaker 8: He asked, this is something I did not realize. Lincoln
- 8:28Speaker 8: in eighteen sixty five, in April, when he went to
- 8:32Speaker 8: the Ford Theater that night to see the play, he
- 8:35Speaker 8: invited the Grants to go with him, Ulysses and his.
- 8:40Speaker 9: Wife, I think her name was Julia.
- 8:42Speaker 8: He asked the Grants begdam you know the war was
- 8:46Speaker 8: over a potomax. I think I pronounced it right, opomatics,
- 8:51Speaker 8: that's correct.
- 8:52Speaker 9: You know happened, you know a couple of weeks before
- 8:54Speaker 9: that was Robert E.
- 8:54Speaker 8: Lee, And he asked, Lee, please, I'm going to the
- 8:58Speaker 8: theater tonight. It was good Friday, me and missus Lincoln,
- 9:01Speaker 8: could you please join us? And Grant wanted to go
- 9:04Speaker 8: in the worst way. His wife couldn't deal with Mary Lincoln.
- 9:11Speaker 8: What nothing to do with her? He listens, I can't
- 9:14Speaker 8: do this. I can't put up with her.
- 9:15Speaker 9: For she's gonna drive me nuts.
- 9:16Speaker 2: We've been there.
- 9:17Speaker 8: So she refused to go, So Grant said, Miss President,
- 9:21Speaker 8: I can't go. If Grant went, he was going to
- 9:26Speaker 8: bring his military entourage.
- 9:29Speaker 9: Meaning protection.
- 9:31Speaker 8: Meaning there's no way John Wilkes Booth gets into that
- 9:34Speaker 8: Ford city with a gun.
- 9:36Speaker 9: Lincoln's alive.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Who was chiming in there?
- 9:45Speaker 4: Hurt Eddie in the background.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Eddie has to try to give Dog you the pointers.
- 9:48Speaker 4: That is tremendous.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I could listen to that all Dame.
- 9:53Speaker 5: The way he lands the plane here is just unbelievable.
- 9:56Speaker 8: Ricardo played this, meaning there's no way Wilkes Booth gets
- 10:01Speaker 8: into that Ford.
- 10:01Speaker 9: Did it with a gun.
- 10:02Speaker 2: It's unbelievable.
- 10:03Speaker 9: Lincoln's alive.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Still still he means.
- 10:07Speaker 1: He means Lincoln's alive today is the way he's saying it.
- 10:13Speaker 1: He's still with us. I mean, what is your favorite
- 10:18Speaker 1: part of that? One of my underrated favorite parts is
- 10:21Speaker 1: doesn't Chris Christie have anything better to do than to
- 10:23Speaker 1: give Dog recommendations on books and joint sports radio shows.
- 10:28Speaker 2: That's one of them.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Garfield beat him in the third like it's a race
- 10:31Speaker 1: at Aqueduct I mean.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Right, he breaks it down like it's a sporting event.
- 10:38Speaker 3: It's fantastic, like the shock of it, the two wives
- 10:41Speaker 3: having a problem. If that doesn't happen, He's alive.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:44Speaker 4: The close is just vintage dog vintage.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:46Speaker 5: The way that he describes Grant's wife and Lincoln's wife
- 10:51Speaker 5: like they are the real housewives of Getty's Bird, Yes,
- 10:54Speaker 5: is so perfect.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yes. Yes.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And the dismount, as you pointed out, is just it's classic.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Lincoln's alive. He thought about that.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I need to hear it one more time. Please, all
- 11:11Speaker 2: of it.
- 11:14Speaker 8: You know, Grant, of course, the Union general, Lincoln's favorite
- 11:17Speaker 8: general and his best huge alcoholic tank got crazy, and
- 11:22Speaker 8: then of course the president for eight years and try
- 11:24Speaker 8: to run again the third time, and Garfield beat him. Anyway,
- 11:27Speaker 8: he wrote a you know, he did the Q and
- 11:29Speaker 8: A with the author who wrote the Grant biography. And
- 11:34Speaker 8: this is a Chris Christie recommendation this book, by the way,
- 11:36Speaker 8: so he'll give him the credit.
- 11:38Speaker 9: But he wrote the He asked, this is something I
- 11:41Speaker 9: did not realize.
- 11:43Speaker 8: Lincoln in eighteen sixty five, in April, when he went
- 11:48Speaker 8: to the Ford.
- 11:49Speaker 9: Theater that night to see the play.
- 11:52Speaker 8: He invited the Grants to go with him, Ulysses and
- 11:56Speaker 8: his wife.
- 11:57Speaker 9: I think her name is Julia.
- 11:59Speaker 8: He asked the Grants begdam you know the war was
- 12:03Speaker 8: over potomax. I think I pronounced it right, apomatics, that's correct.
- 12:09Speaker 8: You know happened, you know a couple of weeks before
- 12:11Speaker 8: that was robbery Lee, And he asked Lee, please, I'm
- 12:14Speaker 8: going to the theater tonight. It was good Friday, me
- 12:17Speaker 8: and Missus Lincoln. Could you please join us? And Grant
- 12:20Speaker 8: wanted to go in the worst way. His wife couldn't
- 12:25Speaker 8: deal with Mary. Lincoln wanted nothing to do with her.
- 12:30Speaker 8: He listens, I can't do this. I can't put up
- 12:32Speaker 8: with her, for.
- 12:32Speaker 9: She's gonna drive me nuts.
- 12:34Speaker 8: So she refused to go, so Grant said, miss President,
- 12:38Speaker 8: I can't go. If Grant went, he was going to
- 12:43Speaker 8: bring his military entourage meaning protection, meaning there's no way
- 12:50Speaker 8: John Wilkes Booth gets into that Ford Theater with a gun.
- 12:53Speaker 9: Lincoln's alive.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Today, stating in his fact, there's no way.
- 12:59Speaker 1: That's the The conversation went down between mister and Missus Grant.
- 13:04Speaker 2: There is just no.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Way wanted to go in the worst way, like he
- 13:12Speaker 6: was like he was like, I've been waiting.
- 13:13Speaker 4: To see this one. This is this is the sequel, the.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Three dramatic pauses from dog If. Like he's he's telling
- 13:22Speaker 3: his listeners, he's telling the world about how wow do
- 13:25Speaker 3: you believe? How huge of a deal this is? Just
- 13:27Speaker 3: breaking it down with all that drama. Oh my god.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Like he was there, right, he was. He was in
- 13:34Speaker 2: the room.
- 13:34Speaker 1: And by the way, mister Grant has no idea how
- 13:38Speaker 1: good he had it.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I mean, how long did do you tell your wife
- 13:41Speaker 2: we have plans and she's like, hey, I don't want
- 13:42Speaker 2: to go. I can't deal with the other wife. How
- 13:44Speaker 2: about that. I've been searching. I want to marry missus Grant.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Excellent.
- 13:51Speaker 3: That's the main takeaway from this whole thing.
- 13:53Speaker 4: We need to find some women like missus Grant. That's
- 13:55Speaker 4: the way you want to play it.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Put it on the ball, Taylor. Do you wish you
- 14:00Speaker 1: had a missus Grant? Oh my god, sal I don't
- 14:04Speaker 1: like today. It's April fools. I just don't like it.
- 14:07Speaker 1: You know, I don't know if someone's being serious with me,
- 14:10Speaker 1: if they're if they're fucking around, if someone's about to
- 14:13Speaker 1: you know, you know, make a joke at my expense,
- 14:15Speaker 1: which is you know, that happens every day, so it
- 14:18Speaker 1: doesn't matter. I just don't like today. I don't like
- 14:20Speaker 1: the uneasy feeling of today, where on a normal day
- 14:25Speaker 1: I'm the one who's always fucking around and lying, and
- 14:27Speaker 1: now today everyone is joining the crap, you know, So
- 14:30Speaker 1: I'm a little there.
- 14:31Speaker 3: So my friend Danny Wexelman, who's in the business she
- 14:34Speaker 3: got me, is in the middle of tape of the
- 14:35Speaker 3: podcast this morning. I see a text from her saying
- 14:37Speaker 3: did you mean to post that? And I'm like, what
- 14:40Speaker 3: the fuck? What what do you mean that I mean
- 14:42Speaker 3: to post that?
- 14:42Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:43Speaker 3: And I'm searching feverishly like and then I'm thinking my
- 14:45Speaker 3: producer posted something. I'm like, what what's going on?
- 14:47Speaker 4: And then she hit me with the April Fools.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Then that was actually a good one, right, But the
- 14:52Speaker 3: band like the sports ones are so Eminem is signed
- 14:55Speaker 3: with the Detroit Lions or Julian Edelman is back. I mean,
- 14:58Speaker 3: come on, it is the lamest maybe the in fact,
- 15:01Speaker 3: the lamest day.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Of the year.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Yes, for unfunny people trying to make jokes that they
- 15:05Speaker 3: think are funny that are just the worst thing ever.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Taylor put that out of the Paul is April first
- 15:10Speaker 1: the lamest day of the year in terms of unfunny
- 15:13Speaker 1: people trying to be funny, because I think Sally is
- 15:16Speaker 1: right about that everyone's a comedian on April first.
- 15:18Speaker 2: It's unbelievable.
- 15:19Speaker 5: And I feel like the devaluation of Twitter has kind
- 15:23Speaker 5: of ruined April First too, because people are just getting
- 15:26Speaker 5: their their jokes and their fake tweets off year round.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Now true parody accounts, Yes.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Right, so and so, exactly so and so signed with
- 15:36Speaker 3: this person. You know you got me again, fake Adam Schefter,
- 15:39Speaker 3: I mean, all those guys. But April first, it's even
- 15:42Speaker 3: at least that could be good around draft time.
- 15:44Speaker 4: You're not expecting it. April first.
- 15:46Speaker 3: It's just come on, society.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Have you ever tried an April Fool's joke out on somebody?
- 15:52Speaker 2: Have you done it?
- 15:53Speaker 4: I have not. I mean my mother used to be
- 15:55Speaker 4: into one.
- 15:55Speaker 2: I was a kid.
- 15:56Speaker 3: But we're going back thirty years, forty years, Like, come on, adults,
- 16:00Speaker 3: you have social media mess you think it And Julian
- 16:03Speaker 3: Edelman himself, like, you think it's funny, Julian that the
- 16:05Speaker 3: Patriots have signed we all know it. It's not happening,
- 16:07Speaker 3: like we all know it's a joke.
- 16:08Speaker 4: It's not even it's stupid.
- 16:10Speaker 2: What did Edelman saying? I didn't even see it? What happened?
- 16:13Speaker 5: He said, Yeah, he posted a I'm signing back with
- 16:18Speaker 5: the Patriots. I'm coming back this year.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Who cares?
- 16:25Speaker 3: Even if you did, No one won't care anyway.
- 16:28Speaker 2: If he was serious, Brady ain't there anymore?
- 16:32Speaker 1: I mean, come on, yeah, listen, I know you're into baseball.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Taylor's in the baseball, Mikey's in the baseball. I think
- 16:39Speaker 1: Taylor was against ABS when it first started. Now he
- 16:42Speaker 1: loves it because the Yankees are the beneficiary of all
- 16:44Speaker 1: the good calls. I personally don't like this. I do
- 16:47Speaker 1: not want machines running sports. I missed the human element.
- 16:51Speaker 1: I don't care if it's a quarter inch outside and
- 16:53Speaker 1: he calls it a strike.
- 16:54Speaker 2: So be it.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I am good with that. This is bullshit. Okay, the
- 16:57Speaker 1: umpire are gonna lose their jobs.
- 17:00Speaker 4: I would lean more.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Your ways to rather than have it go the way
- 17:04Speaker 3: that I'm afraid that it might go.
- 17:05Speaker 4: I like it the way that it is.
- 17:07Speaker 3: I didn't think I would like it, but I think
- 17:08Speaker 3: it adds drama and intrigue and fans get into it
- 17:10Speaker 3: because we finally have a chance to prove what we've
- 17:12Speaker 3: all been saying for years. The umpires suck you guys,
- 17:16Speaker 3: suck it.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Here's proof.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Look at it was off the plate.
- 17:18Speaker 3: But don't you think that this will lead to automatic
- 17:22Speaker 3: balls and strikes period, not just the challenge that eventually
- 17:25Speaker 3: all balls and strikes could be under review. It's just
- 17:28Speaker 3: going to grow and grow and grow, and then you'd
- 17:29Speaker 3: have a sport. To me, that would just become too robotic,
- 17:32Speaker 3: like a video game.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So how do you have this? There is no there's
- 17:35Speaker 1: no umpire behind the plate. Picture is just throwing and
- 17:38Speaker 1: a machine is telling us whether it's a ball or strike.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And we just have to live by the machine because
- 17:42Speaker 1: the machine's going to be.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Right or the ump just gets buzzed. I guess right,
- 17:46Speaker 3: the pitch comes in, the ump gets buzzed.
- 17:48Speaker 4: That was the ball? Okay, ball, I.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Mean that's inefficial. Tend me.
- 17:50Speaker 1: What's the point of having the ump just because you
- 17:52Speaker 1: have a buzzer in his pocket and he.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Can tell you whether there was a ball or strike.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Just leave them, just leave the machine out there.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Then I guess yeah, right, I mean to say, how
- 18:00Speaker 3: else would they know have a scoreboard behind it that
- 18:02Speaker 3: would show I don't know. I'm just afraid that because
- 18:05Speaker 3: of the success of this, you know how it is,
- 18:07Speaker 3: it can never be enough. It's never enough. Like it
- 18:09Speaker 3: starts out, let's do this, then it's oh no, no,
- 18:11Speaker 3: Now we need it for this, and now we need
- 18:12Speaker 3: it for that.
- 18:13Speaker 4: They're gonna because even with.
- 18:14Speaker 3: This, calls are going to be gotten wrong because they're
- 18:16Speaker 3: only a couple of challenges per team, So everybody's gonna
- 18:19Speaker 3: want to try to make everything right, which will never happen.
- 18:21Speaker 3: That's what my fear is that it will expand beyond this.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I'm just thinking, if there's a machine out there and
- 18:26Speaker 1: we have the technology, and that machine can call balls
- 18:29Speaker 1: and strikes with one hundred percent accuracy, I have to think,
- 18:33Speaker 1: after the machine makes the call and could say stee
- 18:35Speaker 1: right on something like that, what's the need for.
- 18:39Speaker 5: A human ump you want to cut out the middleman?
- 18:42Speaker 5: I don't, But if you guys in this scenario you
- 18:44Speaker 5: want to cut out the middle man.
- 18:45Speaker 1: There's no need for it. You're just keeping a guy
- 18:47Speaker 1: around to keep him around so he has a thing
- 18:49Speaker 1: in his pocket. He's not really calling balls and strikes.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I want them to call balls and shruck work.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Well, how would the robotom get out of the way
- 18:55Speaker 3: at a play at the plate?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Let's say, I don't know.
- 18:57Speaker 4: I mean you have an issue there.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I mean he's a good point. I think I'll just
- 19:02Speaker 2: threw up.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:04Speaker 5: I've seen those little like robots that deliver food to people,
- 19:07Speaker 5: and sometimes if it gets to like crossing a street
- 19:11Speaker 5: and it seems like a little dip in the road,
- 19:13Speaker 5: that thing stuck for hours until people get that out
- 19:16Speaker 5: of the machine. But so my I have an abs
- 19:19Speaker 5: uh an abs take. Cebe Buckner will not be calling
- 19:24Speaker 5: games by let's say the All Star break. He has
- 19:28Speaker 5: had a brutal week. Stu, I don't know if you
- 19:30Speaker 5: saw in the Raysed Brewers game. I don't even know
- 19:32Speaker 5: why I said I don't know if you saw, because
- 19:33Speaker 5: I know for a fact you didn't see. But Jake
- 19:38Speaker 5: Bowers hits a ball and Czebe Buckner calls him out
- 19:43Speaker 5: because he says he missed first base. You're looking at
- 19:46Speaker 5: Cebe Buckner, He's not even looking at first base. First off,
- 19:50Speaker 5: they they go to the challenge system, they see that
- 19:52Speaker 5: he touched the base and it was so bad stew
- 19:55Speaker 5: that the Rays and the Brewers managers were in the
- 19:57Speaker 5: dugout just laughing at how bad see Buckner.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Us off of off of him screwing up like five
- 20:04Speaker 3: pitches in a row, whatever was the night before like this.
- 20:07Speaker 3: That's what the ABA should do, is expose the bad
- 20:10Speaker 3: umps the kick.
- 20:10Speaker 4: I didn't even realize I never loved Dumps. I didn't
- 20:12Speaker 4: realize it was his bad. You're seeing these calls get
- 20:14Speaker 4: overturned on the regular, he'd b Buckner.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Look, I'm not trying to call for somebody's job, especially
- 20:20Speaker 3: now we're have extra sensitivity to it. Thought if you're
- 20:23Speaker 3: that poor at your job, hard to justify him keeping it?
- 20:27Speaker 2: No, yeah, yeah, that's fair.
- 20:28Speaker 1: But just listen, let's all be careful because soon they'll
- 20:31Speaker 1: replace us.
- 20:31Speaker 2: I mean.
- 20:36Speaker 4: We're headed there. AI sports talk.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I think we are. We are headed there.
- 20:40Speaker 1: So what's gonna happen with this guy? Is he's gonna
- 20:41Speaker 1: get thrown out of baseball? Like what's gonna Buckner whatever
- 20:44Speaker 1: his name is.
- 20:45Speaker 4: He'll probably get panalized.
- 20:46Speaker 3: I would think that probably when they do the grading
- 20:48Speaker 3: system or whatever, he's probably gonna have it talking to.
- 20:50Speaker 3: But if it continues and You're just you're clearly not
- 20:53Speaker 3: doing the job the right way to a point where
- 20:55Speaker 3: it's getting that much attention. I would think eventually they're
- 20:58Speaker 3: gonna have to move on from I would think.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I have no idea though, Sally, you in to the
- 21:03Speaker 1: final four. If you've been into March madness here, I
- 21:05Speaker 1: want to ask you about Danny Hurley in a second.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I was more into the Saint John's aspect of it.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I'll probably be into the Final four a little bit,
- 21:12Speaker 3: but I'll be I'm into it because they're gonna be
- 21:14Speaker 3: rooting against Yukon, and I think Saint John's fans kind
- 21:17Speaker 3: of were a tough spot because you saw Yukon, the
- 21:19Speaker 3: team that they hate, do something that they could not do.
- 21:22Speaker 3: As much as I hate Duke, Yukon's even more hated
- 21:25Speaker 3: in the area that fans are more vocal. There's a
- 21:27Speaker 3: Patino Hurly battle. Patino got the best of them in
- 21:30Speaker 3: the regular season, in the Big East tournament, and then
- 21:33Speaker 3: even with that, obviously Saint John's fall short of beating Duke,
- 21:36Speaker 3: and then Hurley is able to have an all time
- 21:39Speaker 3: great win and come back and find himself in the
- 21:41Speaker 3: final four yet again.
- 21:42Speaker 2: So It's interesting.
- 21:43Speaker 1: We were talking about the fan base, the teams that
- 21:45Speaker 1: we love to watch lose, right, and the only time
- 21:49Speaker 1: you root for Yukon is when they're facing Duke. And
- 21:51Speaker 1: once they beat Duke, then you start rooting against Yukon.
- 21:54Speaker 1: You're right about that, yes, yeah?
- 21:56Speaker 3: Or you could have had it the other way, root
- 21:57Speaker 3: for Ducon, for Ducon to be Yeah, I hate him both, combine,
- 22:02Speaker 3: I hate him both. Root for Duke to beat Yukon
- 22:05Speaker 3: and then just root for Duke to get eliminated before
- 22:07Speaker 3: you know, obviously in the final four.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Right, how do you feel about the headbutt by Danny Hurley,
- 22:11Speaker 1: which somehow is still in the news four days after
- 22:13Speaker 1: an abbit.
- 22:15Speaker 3: It looked to me like a guy that wasn't looking
- 22:18Speaker 3: to cause damage or in flip payin on the ref,
- 22:21Speaker 3: but he looked unhinged.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Yes, does that?
- 22:23Speaker 3: No?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Woould you ever get like? Would you ever, in.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Any scenario in life, ever put your face to another
- 22:30Speaker 3: man's face like that in that kind of setting. I
- 22:34Speaker 3: mean I do that with my four year old daughter, maybe,
- 22:36Speaker 3: but I mean you do it. You're doing that as
- 22:38Speaker 3: a ref as an adult in the in college basketball,
- 22:41Speaker 3: as a coach. He just looks like an and he
- 22:43Speaker 3: is an unhinged lunatic at times.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Early right on the verge of winning a third national championship,
- 22:48Speaker 1: ties with Jim Calhoun two behind coach k I mean,
- 22:50Speaker 1: he might go down as the greatest coach in the
- 22:52Speaker 1: history of college basketball when it's all said and done.
- 22:55Speaker 2: What I don't like about it? Go ahead, Taey, you
- 22:56Speaker 2: got something here. Yeah.
- 22:57Speaker 5: So he went on parton My Take today and he
- 22:59Speaker 5: said it was more of a nuzzle, an affectionate nuzzle,
- 23:03Speaker 5: than it was a head button.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I understand that.
- 23:05Speaker 1: He also went on the Triple Option podcast with Erbin
- 23:07Speaker 1: Meyer because why Not.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Twenty twenty six and he.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Said that, you know, he has a good relationship with
- 23:16Speaker 1: that referee. It felt like the referee wanted to celebrate
- 23:20Speaker 1: with them. I don't want these head coaches. And maybe
- 23:23Speaker 1: maybe you guys are right, maybe there should be robots
- 23:25Speaker 1: who are incapable of having relationships with people and caring
- 23:28Speaker 1: about people. But I don't want these guys having any
- 23:31Speaker 1: sort of relationship with any referee period, end of discussion.
- 23:36Speaker 2: That's why fans don't trust the outcome.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Sal I mean, yeah, there should be a relationship there, Hurley,
- 23:42Speaker 3: He's got to control his emotions as well. You're talking
- 23:45Speaker 3: about nuzzling. I mean, that's why I said I did
- 23:47Speaker 3: do it with my daughter. That's what you do with
- 23:49Speaker 3: your kid. Not at that level, but I agree with
- 23:52Speaker 3: that there should be no relationships between the coach.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I mean, Zera listen.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I was coaching a lacrosse tournament once and I was
- 23:58Speaker 1: alerted that the referees who refereeing the game went out
- 24:01Speaker 1: with the opposing coach for dinner the night before.
- 24:04Speaker 2: What am I supposed to do with that? You get?
- 24:06Speaker 1: I mean they spent an hour and a half with
- 24:08Speaker 1: the referee who is refereeing a championship game, granted it's
- 24:12Speaker 1: travel across, and I was outraged. And then I found
- 24:14Speaker 1: out later at halftime that the coach is paid for
- 24:17Speaker 1: the referee' dinner.
- 24:18Speaker 2: I mean, what's happening?
- 24:21Speaker 4: Sow.
- 24:21Speaker 5: My question for you is who do you think wins
- 24:24Speaker 5: in a game? Ducn Verse Missionzona? Oh wow, Ducon loses, yeah, Missionsona.
- 24:31Speaker 5: It's overwhelming.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Right, I'm gonna I'm gonna root for Michigan to win,
- 24:35Speaker 3: But so I would go Mischizona.
- 24:36Speaker 4: I think I would take that just because you're rooting
- 24:39Speaker 4: again anybody, but Yukon. I can't stand.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Well, it's Ducon, it's them all right, Ducon right right?
- 24:46Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. I hate I hate both of them.
- 24:47Speaker 3: That's the only reason why we take Missionsonah Taylor.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Am I making too big of a deal of this?
- 24:52Speaker 1: Danny Hurley having any sort of relationship with any referee?
- 24:55Speaker 2: I mean, guys, the human element.
- 24:57Speaker 1: It's if you like a guy, even just a little bit,
- 25:00Speaker 1: you might sway.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I don't know, you're not even consciously doing it. I
- 25:04Speaker 2: just don't like it.
- 25:06Speaker 6: I'm okay with a relationship once we reach nothling, then I'm.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Out once we arrive at I felt like the referee
- 25:14Speaker 1: wanted me to give him a head bump, head butter,
- 25:17Speaker 1: or a chest bump.
- 25:18Speaker 2: That's bad, guys. I'm just telling you that.
- 25:20Speaker 1: He should not have any sort of relationship with any referee.
- 25:23Speaker 1: He should only see the referees when he shows up
- 25:25Speaker 1: the coach a game.
- 25:26Speaker 2: That's it.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm calling bs on that too for him. Come on,
- 25:29Speaker 3: you can't have that, because if they were given a
- 25:32Speaker 3: fist bump or a high five in a different way
- 25:34Speaker 3: other than the postgame handshake, we'dn't be like, what the
- 25:36Speaker 3: hell is that?
- 25:37Speaker 4: It can't happen, And you're right, Stu.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Even in this business like sometimes that's that's a part
- 25:41Speaker 3: of why I would try to see you clear of
- 25:42Speaker 3: becoming friendly with certain players or managers, because you get
- 25:46Speaker 3: to know them a little bit, you're less likely to
- 25:48Speaker 3: go all in if you need to. You you got
- 25:50Speaker 3: to be fair and be critical when you need to.
- 25:51Speaker 3: But if you're boys with these guys, you know, like
- 25:54Speaker 3: I love Aaron Boone. I think Taylor is very critical
- 25:56Speaker 3: of Aaron Boone. I don't know why he's getting on
- 25:57Speaker 3: my guy.
- 25:57Speaker 1: No, no, no, I love I know now he's friends
- 26:00Speaker 1: with Aaron Boone. So he wants Aaron Boone to stick
- 26:02Speaker 1: around as the Yankees manager because it benefits him.
- 26:04Speaker 2: He doesn't care if they win World Series.
- 26:05Speaker 1: He gets tickets and he has, you know, a relationship
- 26:07Speaker 1: with Aaron Boone and Boone.
- 26:09Speaker 2: I have the same number for Aaron Boone that Taylor has.
- 26:13Speaker 1: And the last time I reached out to Aaron Boone
- 26:14Speaker 1: and asked him to come on the show, he said, Hey,
- 26:17Speaker 1: this is no longer Aaron's number.
- 26:23Speaker 3: So yeah, I know he's the UNC guy. So Taylor,
- 26:26Speaker 3: did you know that Taylor before you were ripping Boone.
- 26:27Speaker 3: You knew he has had a son that goes to UNC.
- 26:30Speaker 5: So no, no, I've changed.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Yeah, this is what Sally is talking about. This is
- 26:39Speaker 1: why you don't have relationships with managers. You wanted to
- 26:42Speaker 1: fire the guy before he got to know him, and
- 26:44Speaker 1: now you want him to stick around forever.
- 26:46Speaker 3: I mean, is he submit a UNC hat and all
- 26:48Speaker 3: of a sudden he loves Boonie?
- 26:51Speaker 5: So the problem really and why I've why I've also
- 26:55Speaker 5: gotten off the Boone train.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Does that drink?
- 26:58Speaker 5: I mean, I think whoever the Yankees put in place
- 27:01Speaker 5: of Boone is just going to continue to do what
- 27:04Speaker 5: Boone does. And I like Boone's appearances on John Boy
- 27:09Speaker 5: Media because it shows a different side of Aaron Boone
- 27:12Speaker 5: besides the one that I'm watching. When the Yankees get
- 27:15Speaker 5: eliminated in the World Series and it's kind of combative
- 27:18Speaker 5: and we had him right there, it was right in
- 27:20Speaker 5: front of us. You kind of see a more human
- 27:22Speaker 5: side of Aaron Boone, which I like.
- 27:24Speaker 4: But that's also the point.
- 27:26Speaker 3: When you become friendly with these players or coaches, they're
- 27:30Speaker 3: humanized as opposed to people who are wearing uniforms that
- 27:34Speaker 3: are playing or coaching for your favorite team where they're
- 27:36Speaker 3: not human, they're just whatever. So then the more you
- 27:39Speaker 3: meet them, then it's like, oh, crap, you know this
- 27:41Speaker 3: guy's an actual person. Now, maybe you try to have
- 27:43Speaker 3: a better understanding of why he's doing what he does.
- 27:45Speaker 3: But that's one thing from our perspective to do what
- 27:48Speaker 3: we do. It should never ever be allowed to happen
- 27:52Speaker 3: with a coach and a referee who's impacting the game directly.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Yep, Taylor, what happens if your team doesn't win the
- 27:59Speaker 1: al least? What are you going to say about Aaron
- 28:01Speaker 1: Boone at the end of the season. I mean, if
- 28:03Speaker 1: they don't make the playoffs, what are you going to
- 28:05Speaker 1: say bring.
- 28:05Speaker 5: Back on publicly or privately?
- 28:07Speaker 2: Uh? On the radio?
- 28:09Speaker 1: Publicly yes, I mean yes, publicly, I'll defend him, you will,
- 28:13Speaker 1: and privately privately.
- 28:15Speaker 5: Listen, I cannot be held responsible for anything I say
- 28:19Speaker 5: in my Yankee fan group.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Chats, right, okay, but privately, just be clear as to
- 28:23Speaker 1: what it is you're going to say privately to me.
- 28:26Speaker 5: I'm not even I'm not even contemplating that right now,
- 28:29Speaker 5: because right now this Yankee team looks unbelievable. So that
- 28:33Speaker 5: pitching staff the Yankees.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Have answer the question. I mean, we're dabbling and hypotheticals here.
- 28:38Speaker 1: That's what we do with sports radio. We dabble in hypotheticals.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Answer the question, if Aaron Boone doesn't get the Yankees
- 28:44Speaker 1: to the postseason, what are you going to say about him?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Privately?
- 28:49Speaker 5: What am I going to say if Aaron Boone takes
- 28:51Speaker 5: the Yankees to the moon. I don't know.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Add Boone to the group chat, unbelie.
- 28:57Speaker 3: He's already said it. You've already I've heard you. Are
- 29:00Speaker 3: you driving around listening to you guys talking about you
- 29:02Speaker 3: ripping Booney?
- 29:03Speaker 2: I did not.
- 29:04Speaker 5: I did not rip Boone. I said, if the Yankees
- 29:07Speaker 5: move on from Boone, I would prefer Francisco Cervelli. That
- 29:11Speaker 5: was all I said.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Yeah right, but he doesn't.
- 29:13Speaker 4: Why you a little harsher on him?
- 29:14Speaker 3: If if memory serves correct, you and Mike ye oh,
- 29:17Speaker 3: we want Boone out of there.
- 29:18Speaker 4: We got our next guys.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Francisco.
- 29:20Speaker 6: I've never been I've never been against Boone.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I've always been against Cash. When did you get Boone's number?
- 29:26Speaker 2: I mean.
- 29:29Speaker 4: I worked at ESPN.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Right now, sal you know how this is going to
- 29:32Speaker 1: go down publicly. Taylor is going to support his friend
- 29:35Speaker 1: Aaron Boone, which is why you don't become friends with him. Privately,
- 29:40Speaker 1: to me, he's gonna call him a bum, you know.
- 29:44Speaker 1: And I'm just telling you that when you call him
- 29:47Speaker 1: a bum, I'm gonna tell everyone on the radio that
- 29:49Speaker 1: privately you.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Told me Aaron Boone was a bum. Okay, So I'm
- 29:53Speaker 2: going to betray a trust. I don't care.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I also should stop the show right now and go
- 29:57Speaker 1: hug Taylor because my job is done. I am so
- 29:59Speaker 1: proud of him. I really publicly, I will support the guy. Privately,
- 30:05Speaker 1: I will trash him to stew Gotts.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I love you, dude. I mean, I'm done. The job
- 30:10Speaker 2: is donelemanding it all over the tailor. Man, Oh god,
- 30:15Speaker 2: why are you getting on Boo Bouchett.
- 30:20Speaker 3: I'm not getting on Bobaschetta. How about the met fans
- 30:23Speaker 3: booing them three games in? Like, look, basically a long season.
- 30:26Speaker 3: It's one hundred and sixty two games. The fact that
- 30:28Speaker 3: you would boo him in his third game is ridiculous.
- 30:30Speaker 3: And I just think booing in general, like where are
- 30:33Speaker 3: we at? The Phillies and their fans have a toxic
- 30:37Speaker 3: relationship at this point. Booing that team, Although I think
- 30:39Speaker 3: it's more justifiable than Bobashet. Don't you think it's a
- 30:42Speaker 3: little earlies to three games in now he has looked awful,
- 30:45Speaker 3: Don't get me wrong, He's looked awful. But boom, three
- 30:48Speaker 3: games in. I just think that that's ridiculous.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Oh ninety one through five games, three years, one hundred
- 30:53Speaker 1: and twenty five million dollar contract.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Yes, it's ridiculous. Of course it is.
- 30:56Speaker 1: We're five games into the season and we're booing the guy.
- 31:00Speaker 1: And here's the thing, he'll have a big moment in
- 31:02Speaker 1: a big spot for the Mets coming up pretty soon,
- 31:05Speaker 1: because baseball is a funny game, and you can start
- 31:07Speaker 1: the season bat No. Ninety one and then go for
- 31:09Speaker 1: ninety one over the next you know, five or six
- 31:12Speaker 1: games and the Mets met fans will get him a
- 31:14Speaker 1: standing ovation.
- 31:16Speaker 4: I will say that publicly.
- 31:18Speaker 3: While I'm saying it would never boo Bobashet, I can't
- 31:20Speaker 3: say the same for my group text about the Mets.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Really, Oh really, Oh God, Jesus Christ, I'm so proud
- 31:26Speaker 1: of you.
- 31:28Speaker 4: So check bank.
- 31:32Speaker 2: What am I supposed to do? I created these monsters?
- 31:37Speaker 5: So I agree with you. It's way too early to
- 31:40Speaker 5: boob Bobaschett, especially because he comes in with such a
- 31:44Speaker 5: great reputation of being this great hitter you look to
- 31:48Speaker 5: last year, Wan Soto got off to a pretty slow
- 31:51Speaker 5: April and then he finishes with a top five MVP finish. Yes, booing.
- 31:56Speaker 5: Richard Lovelady, on the other hand, fair game. He is
- 31:59Speaker 5: terrible and they go to him way too much out
- 32:01Speaker 5: of that bullpen.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but even that, it's five games, like you want
- 32:05Speaker 3: Meny to manage it like it's October. Fans ago on
- 32:08Speaker 3: nuts about Richard Lovelady and imagine the things that they're
- 32:11Speaker 3: saying about him when I was at the game, you know,
- 32:12Speaker 3: Dickie love Lady and make your jokes there.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but all.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Right, have I dudes, anybody want to see him on
- 32:17Speaker 3: the mound? No, but it's the fifth game of the season, right,
- 32:19Speaker 3: We're not even in April today, even play a game
- 32:21Speaker 3: in April. It's not gonna happen in the next month
- 32:24Speaker 3: or so. Fans just need to calm down. It's a
- 32:27Speaker 3: long season.
- 32:27Speaker 1: It's the last it's the last name though, right If
- 32:30Speaker 1: his last name was Wilson, we you know he'd be fine.
- 32:33Speaker 4: It's the combination Dicky Lovely like that was.
- 32:36Speaker 3: It was a press release when he first got here
- 32:37Speaker 3: last year. He wants to be called Dicky Lovelady or
- 32:39Speaker 3: something like that.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Well, like, come on, man, really, but just put us
- 32:42Speaker 2: on a te for us, Sally, I agree with you.
- 32:43Speaker 2: The fans need to calm down.
- 32:45Speaker 1: I'm not certain that market they'll ever calm down, or
- 32:47Speaker 1: we're in Philadelphia or markets like that, they'll start bowing
- 32:49Speaker 1: people and ripping people after two or three games, five games, whatever,
- 32:53Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. Our industry was built on fans like that, though.
- 32:56Speaker 1: We should be thankful to those fans for overreacting five
- 33:00Speaker 1: games into a season.
- 33:01Speaker 3: No agreed to a certain extent. Look, you're right, like
- 33:05Speaker 3: I love overreacting. That's what we do as fans. We
- 33:08Speaker 3: overreact all the time. We're irrational. However, I think that
- 33:11Speaker 3: there's a difference between the Mets, who have been bad forever.
- 33:14Speaker 4: When you rip them then and now where.
- 33:17Speaker 3: They are, where they're actually projected to be a very
- 33:19Speaker 3: good team. Any even last year falling short of the postseason,
- 33:22Speaker 3: it still was nowhere near the worst that it's been.
- 33:24Speaker 4: So with their owner, with the.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Star players, to go over the top and expect the
- 33:28Speaker 3: negativity and react negatively just five games. And I know
- 33:31Speaker 3: what you're saying, but I do think it's a little
- 33:34Speaker 3: that to me, lessens the impact of when you do
- 33:37Speaker 3: it when it really should hold water, and right now
- 33:40Speaker 3: it doesn't hold any water.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Ripping the Mets, if you're not booing, you're not caring.
- 33:43Speaker 1: I mean, put it on a pole, Dell gohea.
- 33:48Speaker 5: So we come from such a heavy baseball market in
- 33:52Speaker 5: New York, probably the number one baseball market where Yankees
- 33:56Speaker 5: Mets could carry the WFA and station almost year round.
- 34:00Speaker 5: Do what happened in Seattle yesterday or two days ago,
- 34:04Speaker 5: where the Mariners are signing shortstop Colt Emerson, the number
- 34:08Speaker 5: seven prospect in baseball, to an eight year deal worth
- 34:11Speaker 5: ninety five million dollar extension worth up to one hundred
- 34:14Speaker 5: and thirty million. The deal is a record for a
- 34:16Speaker 5: player who has yet to debut in the MLB. This
- 34:20Speaker 5: feels like a move that could never happen in New York.
- 34:24Speaker 3: For me, it's an unnecessary risk for a team in
- 34:27Speaker 3: New York because why would you ever commit to a
- 34:29Speaker 3: guy that far out when you haven't seen anything from him.
- 34:34Speaker 3: How many times have we seen busts in New York.
- 34:36Speaker 3: I know people get nuts Carson Bench, he's played five games.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Everybody wants put him in the Mets Hall of Fame,
- 34:40Speaker 3: or you know Volpi or Domingez or Spencer Jones who
- 34:43Speaker 3: hasn't been in the big league yet.
- 34:45Speaker 4: But New York should have.
- 34:46Speaker 3: The advantage where they could let it play out and
- 34:48Speaker 3: then whenever they need to get that guy a contract,
- 34:51Speaker 3: then you pay him the money. I understand the appeal
- 34:53Speaker 3: for small markets to do it, but it's foolish to
- 34:56Speaker 3: commit that much guaranteed. There's not the NFL, it's just
- 34:59Speaker 3: guarant ted contracts. You never seen him play in the
- 35:02Speaker 3: big leagues. He might might not be able to cut it.
- 35:04Speaker 3: You don't know what's gonna happen from triple out of
- 35:06Speaker 3: the big league. So I think we're at an advantage
- 35:08Speaker 3: in New York where they don't have to take risks
- 35:10Speaker 3: like Seattle did.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Just to play the other side of this, if if
- 35:14Speaker 1: you trust your scouts and you trust that they're good
- 35:16Speaker 1: at their jobs, does it not make sense to sign
- 35:19Speaker 1: a guy that you think that you project is going
- 35:22Speaker 1: to be great and then you have them for the
- 35:23Speaker 1: next seven or eight years and you have them at
- 35:26Speaker 1: a discount, right.
- 35:27Speaker 4: Yes, Like Ronald Acune Junr with the Braves. I mean
- 35:29Speaker 4: it was a steal.
- 35:30Speaker 3: The Braves stole him. So give them financial security. If
- 35:33Speaker 3: I'm the player, I'm taking it. Even as much as
- 35:35Speaker 3: you're confident in yourself, you'll take it. Well, I don't
- 35:37Speaker 3: have to do anything anymore. I'm guaranteed X amount of
- 35:40Speaker 3: money and then maybe the pressure is off.
- 35:42Speaker 4: So yes, I think that it does make.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Sense for smaller markets and from a player's perspective, and
- 35:47Speaker 3: if you want to take that gamble, even if you're
- 35:49Speaker 3: a big market like the Mets Yankees, you could take
- 35:51Speaker 3: that gamble. But to me, it's just an unnecessary risk
- 35:55Speaker 3: where the reward is probably not worth it. Just letting
- 35:59Speaker 3: them ride it out for cheap for the next however
- 36:01Speaker 3: many years they're under control, and then pay them the
- 36:03Speaker 3: big money when they hit free agency if they've earned it.
- 36:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the problem there is if the Yankees,
- 36:08Speaker 5: for example, gave Anthony Volpi a one hundred and thirty
- 36:11Speaker 5: million dollar deal and we got what we've gotten so
- 36:14Speaker 5: far from Anthony Volpi, or even if he got off
- 36:18Speaker 5: to a slow start, his head would be on a
- 36:20Speaker 5: stake outside of Yankee Stadium, right, I.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Mean Roman Anthony signed an eight year deal with the
- 36:25Speaker 2: Red Sox. Did he not?
- 36:27Speaker 5: But that was after he had debuted.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Right, so they have seen him play, but they still
- 36:31Speaker 1: have no idea if he's going to be consistent turn
- 36:33Speaker 1: into the player they now he is. It looks like
- 36:35Speaker 1: he's going to by everyone's account, he was great in
- 36:38Speaker 1: the World Baseball Classic. But this is going to work
- 36:41Speaker 1: out in a way that the Red Sox are going
- 36:42Speaker 1: to have them on the cheap for the next seven years.
- 36:44Speaker 3: Sal right, Well, that's the reward, right if you take
- 36:48Speaker 3: that risk. But it is a big gamble, and with
- 36:50Speaker 3: these contracts because they're guaranteed, you know, things he go wrong,
- 36:52Speaker 3: Guys underperformed, guys get hurt. I don't know. I would
- 36:55Speaker 3: be trying to operate from a position of power as
- 36:57Speaker 3: opposed to playing the game. Hey, we think Harson Banj
- 37:00Speaker 3: or we think Spencer Jones are going to be the
- 37:03Speaker 3: legit things.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Maybe maybe the better way.
- 37:06Speaker 3: And I'll meet you in the middle, would be doing
- 37:07Speaker 3: it with pitching, because pitching should be in theory easier
- 37:12Speaker 3: to project. Let's use Cam Schlitzler or Nolan McLain and
- 37:17Speaker 3: if you ride that out and they hit the open market.
- 37:19Speaker 3: That's gonna be an astronomical amount. You know, pitching is
- 37:22Speaker 3: the most valuable thing in the sports. You can have
- 37:23Speaker 3: to far overpay for guys when they hit free agency
- 37:26Speaker 3: at a later age. So I would let the position
- 37:28Speaker 3: players play it out. I would try to maybe lock
- 37:30Speaker 3: up the pitchers that I believe in, in this case,
- 37:33Speaker 3: Noel mclan and Cam Schlitzer for the Mets.
- 37:35Speaker 1: And yet I know they were afforded the opportunity to
- 37:37Speaker 1: see Roman play.
- 37:38Speaker 2: But he's making two million dollars this year, ridiculous.
- 37:43Speaker 1: It jumps up to a four million next season, eight
- 37:45Speaker 1: million in twenty twenty eight, and then it really jumps
- 37:47Speaker 1: up fifteen million in twenty twenty nine. He's a bargain
- 37:51Speaker 1: and they're gonna have to restructure that contract. In fact,
- 37:53Speaker 1: I would say, why did Roman Anthony sign that contract?
- 37:56Speaker 1: You know, right crazy? He may have cost himself with
- 37:59Speaker 1: that one. I know he gets the get garanteed money,
- 38:00Speaker 1: but that is far underpeagd. Yes, Listen, something happened last night.
- 38:05Speaker 1: We were making fun of Aaron Glenn. He was talking
- 38:08Speaker 1: about Geno Smith will play the sound in just a second.
- 38:12Speaker 1: And I realized after we made fun of him that
- 38:15Speaker 1: Jay Glazer, who I cannot believe that this creature exists
- 38:18Speaker 1: inside of sports media, talking about.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Not becoming friendly with all the coaches.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Every year the owners meetings, he has a day drinking
- 38:26Speaker 1: party with all the NFL coaches. So twenty eight of
- 38:30Speaker 1: the thirty two showed up. And now it appears the
- 38:33Speaker 1: thing I was making fun of Aaron Glenn for saying
- 38:35Speaker 1: Gino Smith's going to lead us to.
- 38:36Speaker 2: The promised Land. Perhaps Aaron Glenn was drunk so.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Because he was hanging out with Glazer and all the
- 38:44Speaker 1: coaches getting hammered all day. Let's play that sound Here
- 38:47Speaker 1: is Aaron Glenn talking about quarterback Geno Smith while he
- 38:51Speaker 1: was hammered.
- 38:52Speaker 10: Something about a quarterback, and I'm gonna say a quarterback
- 38:56Speaker 10: with a chip on his shoulder.
- 39:00Speaker 5: And listen, he's proven a lot.
- 39:01Speaker 10: In this league of what he's done, especially when you
- 39:04Speaker 10: take those times when he was in Seattle. Listen, he
- 39:09Speaker 10: fits exactly what we're trying to do. So obviously we've
- 39:11Speaker 10: created that identity. The foundation of our offense is pretty
- 39:15Speaker 10: good now. Like I just feel like like he's the
- 39:17Speaker 10: guy who's going to lead us to the promise that
- 39:19Speaker 10: he's the guy that's going to touch the ball more
- 39:20Speaker 10: than anybody else. On off and listen. I know he
- 39:23Speaker 10: had his struggles, and I think a lot of quarterbacks,
- 39:26Speaker 10: you know, they have their struggles. If you look at
- 39:28Speaker 10: for the last five years, the guy has that's been
- 39:31Speaker 10: on the most interception. I mean, the top guys are
- 39:33Speaker 10: up there.
- 39:38Speaker 3: He must have been hanging out of that Glazer party
- 39:42Speaker 3: because otherwise it doesn't make sense. Here's what I think
- 39:44Speaker 3: was happening there. I was told that Glenn wanted Kirk Cousins.
- 39:49Speaker 4: Okay, now I'm.
- 39:50Speaker 3: Not pretending to have all the great sources, but this
- 39:51Speaker 3: is from a source that I that I believe in,
- 39:53Speaker 3: and I don't even know if it's been reported or not,
- 39:54Speaker 3: but I was told that he wanted Cousins and that
- 39:57Speaker 3: instead Moujie now has taken over the power, which would
- 40:00Speaker 3: lead Mujie to wants Gino Smith, which which makes me
- 40:03Speaker 3: think Glenn is now trying to overcompensate for his true
- 40:08Speaker 3: feelings that he didn't really want Geno Smith, and now
- 40:11Speaker 3: he's trying to convince himself that he that Gino's good
- 40:14Speaker 3: to where he just he gets caught up.
- 40:16Speaker 4: You know how we do it all the time, like.
- 40:17Speaker 3: You get caught up and warddone. I think he's gonna
- 40:18Speaker 3: take his He's so good, they'll take it to the
- 40:20Speaker 3: Promised Land. He didn't even know what the hell he
- 40:22Speaker 3: was saying, but he was trying to overcompensate for his
- 40:24Speaker 3: true feelings, where that I didn't even want this guy
- 40:27Speaker 3: wanted Kirk Cousins instead.
- 40:28Speaker 2: So he's putting unnecessary pressure on Geno Smith. I think.
- 40:33Speaker 3: I think Glenn knows Glenn's a dead man walkin.
- 40:36Speaker 4: I think he knows it.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Unfortunately, really, so this is it for Aaron Glenn two
- 40:39Speaker 1: seasons he's done?
- 40:40Speaker 2: Huh?
- 40:41Speaker 4: I think so?
- 40:42Speaker 3: Yeah, because it was so bad in year one, and
- 40:44Speaker 3: you already saw a shift when Glenn first came here
- 40:47Speaker 3: was all about Glenn Glenn, Glenn, Glen Glenn. And now
- 40:49Speaker 3: all of a sudden, it's whoa look at Mugie, Master Mugie.
- 40:51Speaker 3: All of a sudden, all the trades that he's making.
- 40:53Speaker 4: Now he has to.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Say in who's coming in here and who is in
- 40:56Speaker 3: So I think it's a and like unless you think
- 40:59Speaker 3: the Jets are gonna be good this year, and I don't,
- 41:01Speaker 3: And I have a lot of reasons why we all
- 41:02Speaker 3: know that. So if they struggle similar similar to what
- 41:05Speaker 3: they did a year ago, I do think Glenn will
- 41:07Speaker 3: be out and Moodie will get to pick another head coach.
- 41:09Speaker 5: My worry with Aaron Glenn just hearing him talk. I
- 41:13Speaker 5: think Aaron Glenn surrounds himself with too many yes men
- 41:16Speaker 5: in that building, you think, because somebody in that building
- 41:20Speaker 5: has to have the awareness to pull Aaron Glenn aside
- 41:22Speaker 5: and be like, hey, we need you to talk about
- 41:25Speaker 5: ninety percent less.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Less is more.
- 41:30Speaker 5: And by less we need none, right.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Because when you start talking, Gino Smith is taking us
- 41:36Speaker 1: to the promised Land.
- 41:39Speaker 3: The wa jokes right themselves with the Jets. He wasn't
- 41:42Speaker 3: like this when he first got here. He was in command,
- 41:45Speaker 3: he was calm. You're seeing the confidence start to shrivel
- 41:48Speaker 3: after just the year and now this where he's clearly
- 41:51Speaker 3: I'm calling bs on that whole thing.
- 41:52Speaker 4: He doesn't believe it. Why would he? Gino Smith stanks.
- 41:55Speaker 3: He was the second one. He was the worst quarterback
- 41:57Speaker 3: last year, right next to Justin Fields, the guy that
- 41:59Speaker 3: was we're backing for the Jets yep.
- 42:01Speaker 2: And the reason that chips on his shoulder is because
- 42:03Speaker 2: of the Jets.
- 42:07Speaker 4: He knows it better than anybody.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I'm all for Rick Glenn knowing that he's a dead
- 42:12Speaker 1: man walking and sabotaging Ginosmith.
- 42:15Speaker 2: At every turn. I mean, that's what I want.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Yes, we're gonna win the super Bowl with that guy.
