- 0:00SPEAKER_00: What's going on, Murders to Music fans?
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Just a little snapshot.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Ten minutes of something that I just want to talk about.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: You know, as you guys know, I got this new job and it allows me to travel to Alaska.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: And uh it's pretty awesome because I love the state.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: You know, it's where I was born and raised, and my family was from here, and you know, uh it was just an amazing state to be from.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: When I moved out of here, I wasn't it wasn't soon enough in my rearview mirror, I was ready to be gone.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: And now coming back here, I'm back here about four or five times a year, and every time I come back, I just fall in love with the state a little bit more.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: And you know, and then I get to come down to my hometown every now and then.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: And when I do, it's hard not to go down memory lane.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: This is where I was raised, it's where I started my law enforcement career, it's where I have my first memories, it's where my mom died, it's where life happened.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: You know, and I'm back here now, and right in the middle of the city, there is a beautiful park.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: And in that park, there's a rock that sticks up out of the ground, a big rock.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And on that rock is a plaque that reads my mom's name, her date of birth, her date of death, and in loving memory of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend touching our lives each day with our sweet smile, warmth, and kindness.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: And it's hard not to come and be touched in this moment.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: As you all know, many of you have lost parents and loved ones.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And we move on so quickly that we never forget about them, but we still have a life to live.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: And slowing down for those moments of reminiscing and memories and allowing yourself to be nostalgic for just a moment is painful and it hurts.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So, as men, as myself, I often avoid those times, shove them down inside, pack them away, and hope they never come up.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I don't have been up here, I'll be honest with you, a lot of times, and I've driven right by her park and her rock because stopping was going to be painful.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: That is today.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: You're never guaranteed another tomorrow.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Whoever your loved ones are today, tell them you love them.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Spend time with the ones you love, share in making memories, however so insignificant and small in the moment, might be monumental in the end.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: I made a life and a career out of telling people that their loved ones were gone.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: They didn't plan for that.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: They planned for them to be home for dinner, and that never happened.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: They always wish they could have one more yesterday.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: As I lay here in front of my mom's stone crying and just being held in her presence.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: I wish for one more day with my mom.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Take care of your families, take care of your husbands, your wives, your kids.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: The small stuff we bicker about probably isn't worth it.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: If there is somebody in your world, in my world, that we have a beef with, go make it right today because we're not guaranteed tomorrow.
