A registered nurse in Iowa, Penny Lynn Daniels, has been suspended for three months after an inmate died hours after receiving her care — a case now under disciplinary review and a civil lawsuit. Despite being alerted to worsening symptoms like fever and vomiting, Daniels allegedly dismissed the inmate’s condition as a virus and ordered only electrolytes. The inmate later died from a perforated ulcer. Daniels, who’s been a nurse since 2012 and worked at the state prison since 2018, now faces three years of probation and mandatory ethics training.
