Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Cool. Yeah. Well, I'm Dennis.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I sing in dark Horse and I'm part of the
- 0:06Speaker 2: band pretty much since the beginning, which is two seven eleven.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you know do what I do.
- 0:19Speaker 3: I'm Dale.
- 0:20Speaker 4: I've been in the band since January twenty twenty four,
- 0:25Speaker 4: so I'm the oldest and also youngest member of the band.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Very good, guys, thanks to join us today, cool and
- 0:35Speaker 4: we wear dark Horse.
- 0:37Speaker 5: You are dark Horse.
- 0:38Speaker 6: Indeed, dark Horse are playing at the fifth Annual Medal
- 0:42Speaker 6: in the Mountains, to be held at Beach Earth in
- 0:44Speaker 6: November thirtieth. But I haven't been to one of them yet, guys,
- 0:47Speaker 6: but it looks like it's a pretty cool festival.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Absolutely, I haven't been either, but.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You know, no, quite a few friends who have played
- 0:57Speaker 2: there with events and this Edison excellent festival, very good
- 1:02Speaker 2: organization and lovely crowd. So I can't wait to actually
- 1:07Speaker 2: go somewhere you know where we haven't been and yeah,
- 1:09Speaker 2: it's gonna be good.
- 1:11Speaker 6: Yeah, and it also features our sordid ordeal. There's Mammon's
- 1:14Speaker 6: throwing munitions, the kriggers and more. Mate, So have you
- 1:17Speaker 6: played with anyone on the line up before you get
- 1:19Speaker 6: me play a little more for the first time.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I think most of these bands are actually new to us.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I think we played with Munitions once. But it's a
- 1:32Speaker 2: bit blurry to be honest. Yeah, No, most of the
- 1:36Speaker 2: bands are new to me. Like I heard some of it,
- 1:39Speaker 2: heard some tracks. Yeah, And so it's you know, it's new.
- 1:45Speaker 6: Yeah, And what can fans or what can punners expect
- 1:48Speaker 6: from your set on the day?
- 1:49Speaker 5: What do you guys get to bring?
- 1:51Speaker 3: Look, it's the same dark Horse energy.
- 1:54Speaker 4: It's funny, like I was a big fan of the
- 1:57Speaker 4: band before I joined, and dark Horse is one of
- 2:01Speaker 4: the most consistent bands that like swrippyr face off every time.
- 2:06Speaker 4: You know, it's like thirty minutes of just intense energy
- 2:12Speaker 4: riffs and just you know, just in your face and
- 2:18Speaker 4: off your face.
- 2:21Speaker 6: Beautiful takem with festivals on This is because there's so
- 2:25Speaker 6: many bands of like different sort of bands there. A
- 2:28Speaker 6: lot of people go and won't know every band. Of course,
- 2:30Speaker 6: So for those that are unfamiliar with dark Horse, give
- 2:32Speaker 6: us a bit of a.
- 2:33Speaker 4: History, that one from a fan who's now in the band.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Or a bit of base actually, so maybe you've started well.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Dark Horse three albums deep. The first album came out
- 2:50Speaker 3: in like fourteen. The first album that I got was
- 2:55Speaker 3: Bomb Throw, which was the second.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Album look d beat hardcore with a bit of kind
- 3:03Speaker 4: of grind core ish moments. It's kind of got thrash bits.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Dennis's vocals like out in Front, possibly the best DBA
- 3:16Speaker 4: drummer in the universe in Fran who's just like an
- 3:21Speaker 4: absolute beasts has a swing that like when he's playing
- 3:26Speaker 4: d beat that just like a rolling swing, which is
- 3:29Speaker 4: just beautiful. It's like four elements all coming together into
- 3:35Speaker 4: what is like and it's funny, like dark Horse has
- 3:38Speaker 4: a sound like it sounds like dark Horse. You hear
- 3:41Speaker 4: a dark Horse, right, You're like, oh, that's dark Horse.
- 3:43Speaker 4: It doesn't you know bands have been in before. You know,
- 3:46Speaker 4: you kind of take elements here and there. But it's
- 3:49Speaker 4: just like it's funny. Like I keep on talking about
- 3:52Speaker 4: the dark Horse law, like the Lri law, Like there's
- 3:55Speaker 4: a way of doing things that a way of writing
- 3:57Speaker 4: songs that is ultimately sort of dark horse ish.
- 4:02Speaker 2: It is true after you know, after fourteen years, we
- 4:06Speaker 2: definitely found a formula. And or m O was always
- 4:12Speaker 2: you know, to be full on in your face and
- 4:17Speaker 2: we've done it since since day one.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You know, it was always go fast, do dvat heavy.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Uh and and you know, blow people's faces off and that.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Ah.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Even now after after fourteen fifteen years, you know, still
- 4:33Speaker 2: has to be h.
- 4:35Speaker 1: You know the objective so especially live.
- 4:39Speaker 2: We we we want to you know, well, lack of
- 4:43Speaker 2: a better word, we want to destroy.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Very good.
- 4:48Speaker 6: Give us three songs here was I guess and the
- 4:50Speaker 6: people can listen to it before they come to the
- 4:51Speaker 6: middle in the mountains to get a bit of an
- 4:53Speaker 6: idea or what you expect they are.
- 4:55Speaker 1: What's your favorite?
- 4:56Speaker 3: Uh? A bo throw the song? What else?
- 5:04Speaker 2: Well, Uh, there's there's a song called to hell with
- 5:08Speaker 2: It which usually goes done pretty.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Smoothly with people.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Immigrant.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Immigrant is a good song from the last record.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Yeah, But what's the song of the seven.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Of the idea? Yeah?
- 5:24Speaker 3: Under the stress, under the stress, that's my that's my
- 5:26Speaker 3: that's my jam.
- 5:27Speaker 6: Under the distress stress or distress under distress distress.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Were probably get in trouble for saying that these days.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Distress distress.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Right now, tell us a bit more about yourself done,
- 5:47Speaker 6: Like you say, you've only come in this year. So
- 5:49Speaker 6: what do you bring to to dark lors in the sound?
- 5:53Speaker 1: Uh?
- 5:54Speaker 3: I don't know, like just you.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Know, uh uh, the happy disposition. Really, I've been playing
- 6:03Speaker 4: in I've been playing bands for thirty years. I used
- 6:06Speaker 4: to play or I still do. I used to play
- 6:10Speaker 4: and then rejoined the amenta just a year so. Plus
- 6:16Speaker 4: used to play in a bank called Grim That's how
- 6:19Speaker 4: we kind of connected. But I've also sort of playing
- 6:23Speaker 4: all sorts of bands, playing soul bands, and played in
- 6:25Speaker 4: a hip hop band for many years that were moderately famous.
- 6:29Speaker 3: So you know getting around that's me.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Yeah, and you're a fan of the band before joining,
- 6:36Speaker 6: you say.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I reckon.
- 6:37Speaker 4: I probably saw twenty or so shows over the years,
- 6:44Speaker 4: including you know, some that were large.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Yeah, some that were small.
- 6:49Speaker 1: We played lots of small.
- 6:52Speaker 4: We actually did a show together with Grim, my band
- 6:56Speaker 4: and dark Horse. We were just talking about it at
- 6:59Speaker 4: a venue in Sydney, just out out of COVID when
- 7:03Speaker 4: there was I think it was it was twelve or
- 7:05Speaker 4: fifteen seated.
- 7:07Speaker 2: It was it was during COVID and there were bean
- 7:11Speaker 2: bags for people to sit because.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Of social distance.
- 7:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Wow. We were playing two sets that night and it
- 7:19Speaker 1: was amazing. Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 2: In the end we had a bit of a bean
- 7:26Speaker 2: bag mosh pit.
- 7:28Speaker 1: People we're told they have to sit.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Down, but they didn't want to, so they threw their
- 7:33Speaker 2: bean bags and we still.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Got a bit of a moshure.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 7:38Speaker 6: Now, just mentioned it's a few chures before and I've
- 7:41Speaker 6: never heard the chat before.
- 7:42Speaker 5: But what is what is DBAT hardcore?
- 7:44Speaker 2: Oh that's a big question. Look, dbat is just basically
- 7:52Speaker 2: it's a drum beat. And yeah, I'm not even sure
- 7:57Speaker 2: who coined it. People often often subscribe it to to
- 8:01Speaker 2: the band Discharge from the UK, but I'm not sure
- 8:04Speaker 2: that it's actually true.
- 8:06Speaker 3: But that's where the day comes from, right, maybe who knows,
- 8:10Speaker 3: But yeah.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It is a specific drum beat.
- 8:13Speaker 3: You know, as soon as you heard it's like.
- 8:18Speaker 4: It's like that kind of it's it's like a swung
- 8:20Speaker 4: thrash bat or something right to get or like a
- 8:24Speaker 4: blast which is like it's like.
- 8:29Speaker 5: It's a little bit of a swings to it.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a lot a lot of groove in that,
- 8:34Speaker 2: and while we're playing pretty fast it is it's really
- 8:39Speaker 2: important to to keep that groove because that is kind
- 8:43Speaker 2: of the dark Horse formula as well, you know, being
- 8:47Speaker 2: intense and upfront but making it possible for the listener
- 8:52Speaker 2: too to get into it. No matter how hard it is,
- 8:56Speaker 2: no matter how fast it is, and uh yeah, dB kind.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Of it's the perfect the perfect pathway to that. I find.
- 9:04Speaker 7: We all really really like you know, lots of dbat
- 9:08Speaker 7: bands like Tragedy or Dispear that you know to an
- 9:12Speaker 7: extent have have have influenced UFF.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Three.
- 9:17Speaker 6: Now you mentioned this before too when we're talking about songs,
- 9:20Speaker 6: but you've got a seven inch split with Canbra based
- 9:23Speaker 6: band bride Worms, So tell us about that.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Yeah, they hit us up. We're doing a seven We've
- 9:31Speaker 4: done out. We went down to their studio in Canberra
- 9:34Speaker 4: for the day, which for those of you who are
- 9:37Speaker 4: outside of Sydney, it's three hour drive there and back.
- 9:41Speaker 3: We went up in the morning, recorded, banged out three songs.
- 9:44Speaker 4: And then and then came back that night. Yeah, so
- 9:50Speaker 4: that's the first three songs. One of the songs was
- 9:52Speaker 4: written before I joined, but like we refined it and
- 9:56Speaker 4: then two new songs. So it's the you know, a
- 10:00Speaker 4: brand new dark Horse sound, which is the same sound
- 10:04Speaker 4: as before, but you are.
- 10:08Speaker 1: We have Rowan from Extortion doing the.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Artwork and yeah, hopefully hopefully we will have the physical
- 10:18Speaker 2: record ready before the end of the year. That is
- 10:21Speaker 2: all planned, but you know, you can never be sure
- 10:25Speaker 2: if everything goes goes smoothly. But yeah, it's gonna be good.
- 10:28Speaker 2: It's gonna sound good, it's gonna look good, it's gonna
- 10:31Speaker 2: be good.
- 10:32Speaker 3: It's good.
- 10:34Speaker 6: And you're also working towards a full length album for
- 10:36Speaker 6: next year.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I believe that's right. Yeah, the last record is when
- 10:41Speaker 1: was it?
- 10:42Speaker 2: I think we wrote it in twenty twenty and came
- 10:44Speaker 2: out in twenty one during COVID and which was a
- 10:50Speaker 2: tricky time to make a record because we had to
- 10:53Speaker 2: postpone the recording the studio several times because of lockdowns,
- 10:59Speaker 2: and then we had to kind of mixed the record
- 11:02Speaker 2: by what app because we couldn't actually sit in the
- 11:06Speaker 2: same room and discussing. So yeah, we were all we
- 11:15Speaker 2: are all really keen to do another record, and you know,
- 11:19Speaker 2: some real good tracks in dark horse manner with Dale.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And hopefully he you know, can bring something to the table.
- 11:31Speaker 5: You gotta find out Batches of a Fire. Now. You've
- 11:36Speaker 5: also got a few other shows coming up.
- 11:38Speaker 6: You've got Sydney on November twenty third, Melbourne November thirtieth,
- 11:42Speaker 6: Erskineville of December seventh, and donaldsh Hall of December eighth.
- 11:46Speaker 5: I have no idea where those last year are, but
- 11:48Speaker 5: tell us about.
- 11:49Speaker 3: The show is by Sydney Dye.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so yeah, we got to shown in Melbourne on
- 11:59Speaker 2: the twenty n the night before Metal in the Mountains
- 12:04Speaker 2: and I was just, you know, looking into booking a
- 12:07Speaker 2: show to make make the trip really worthwhile. And yeah,
- 12:11Speaker 2: when it came to the lineup, I just so, I'm
- 12:13Speaker 2: just going to ask all of our friends if they.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Want to play, and everybody said yes.
- 12:18Speaker 2: And we've got a banging lineup and.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's the weekend in Victoria.
- 12:24Speaker 5: And Black Raino in Sydney on November twenty thirty. That's right,
- 12:28Speaker 5: we cool.
- 12:29Speaker 2: We're good friends with them, and they asked us, do
- 12:33Speaker 2: you want to jump on the show free show in Sydney.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And I was it, of course we do and so
- 12:39Speaker 1: yeah we do that.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Yeah, and then the Askanville and Valid Chill Color Chill
- 12:44Speaker 4: shows on a Saturday Sunday with Black Jesus and the
- 12:48Speaker 4: Saturday nights with Black Worms as well.
- 12:51Speaker 3: So that was going to be a seven.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Inch really but like hopefully let's let's see how black
- 12:58Speaker 4: Worms are still in the process of doing their stream
- 13:04Speaker 4: quartet again. Then the horn section is next, So well,
- 13:09Speaker 4: where can people.
- 13:10Speaker 5: Find out more information about these shows and get tickets?
- 13:13Speaker 2: Always Instagram, Facebook, and you know they local show.
- 13:17Speaker 1: It's the show with Black Areno. It's going to be free.
- 13:20Speaker 2: The venue is not huge, so come early, but.
- 13:25Speaker 1: It's a free show.
- 13:27Speaker 2: And yeah, the other two shows, you know, just show
- 13:30Speaker 2: up at the door and buy a ticket.
- 13:33Speaker 6: That's good boys, Well thanksually time has been The place
- 13:37Speaker 6: again to know is dark Horse are playing Metal in
- 13:40Speaker 6: the Mountains at Beach Rooch on November thirtieth. There's also
