A tragic hit-and-run involving a pedestrian and a box truck unfolded Tuesday evening near a bus stop in Northeast Gainesville, leaving a 49-year-old man dead. Witnesses say he stepped into traffic from a bike lane near GRACE Marketplace, not in a crosswalk. Authorities are still investigating whether he was homeless or staying at a nearby shelter, and while the driver is cooperating, police currently believe he’s not at fault.
