- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey everyone, Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode
- 0:14Speaker 1: from Long Story Short the podcast.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I'm Megan, Hi, I'm Wendy, and today.
- 0:20Speaker 1: We're discussing Love down Under, a standalone original movie on
- 0:23Speaker 1: the Hallmark Channel. We are in between Spring Fling and
- 0:29Speaker 1: Summer nights, and we've got a handful of standalone movies
- 0:31Speaker 1: that I think they just kind of pull from the
- 0:33Speaker 1: vault because we have some information to share about that
- 0:36Speaker 1: in a little bit. But first of course, if you're
- 0:39Speaker 1: brand new to the podcast, welcome. This is a bonus episode,
- 0:42Speaker 1: which means it's extra surprise. We have our regular episodes
- 0:46Speaker 1: every Tuesday, and this week we talked all about our
- 0:51Speaker 1: nighttime routines, what we do in between dinner and bedtime,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and as an extra bonus bonuses everywhere, that was a
- 0:59Speaker 1: video episode of a to all of our Patreon subscribers.
- 1:02Speaker 1: So if you visit Megan and Wendy dot com slash Patreon,
- 1:05Speaker 1: you can see all of the extras we offer for
- 1:09Speaker 1: our Patreon subscribers. And this is a great week to
- 1:11Speaker 1: join because there's so much new content coming to Patreon.
- 1:16Speaker 1: If you want more from us free stuff, you can
- 1:19Speaker 1: hop into our Facebook group which is long story shorties,
- 1:22Speaker 1: we had an interesting conversation about everyone's Hallmark movie watching
- 1:25Speaker 1: habits in there and you can also join us on
- 1:27Speaker 1: Instagram where we are Megan and Wendy LSS.
- 1:31Speaker 2: We also love your emails. Oh, I got a little
- 1:34Speaker 2: frog in the throat this morning. We love your emails,
- 1:37Speaker 2: so send them to us at Meganandwindy at gmail dot com.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And I believe we have a special one today.
- 1:45Speaker 1: We do. I will tell you that I was both
- 1:48Speaker 1: excited and terrified to receive this email. And this email
- 1:52Speaker 1: is from uh oh, listen to me.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Oh, It's contagious through the microphone from.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Twenty miles away. Okay, this email is from Lynda Lisa Hater,
- 2:03Speaker 1: who Hallmark fans will know as a popular Hallmark movie
- 2:08Speaker 1: director and the director of Right in front of Me. Now,
- 2:12Speaker 1: if you listened to last week's episode, we had wonderful
- 2:15Speaker 1: things to say about the movie. It was not a
- 2:18Speaker 1: slam of the movie at all. However, there was a
- 2:22Speaker 1: lot of bleeping in that episode, so welcome. If that
- 2:26Speaker 1: was your first experience with us.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Well, you know, I am not a perfect so I'm
- 2:33Speaker 2: not a perfect Hallmark woman.
- 2:37Speaker 1: We contain multitudes exactly one thing she said, she popped
- 2:43Speaker 1: in and she said yes to confirm. Two days before
- 2:46Speaker 1: we started filming here in Vancouver, we had an unusual
- 2:49Speaker 1: dump of snow. Our set decorators had been decorating a
- 2:52Speaker 1: patio and barbecue area with flowers and candles in the
- 2:55Speaker 1: pool and lights strewn everywhere, and then the snow started
- 2:59Speaker 1: to have fall. Doesn't usually happen in Vancouver like that,
- 3:02Speaker 1: but it did this time, so they had to pull
- 3:05Speaker 1: everything inside and I was forced to shoot many scenes
- 3:08Speaker 1: inside instead of outside. Doesn't look springing pretty when the
- 3:12Speaker 1: whole place is covered in snow. Hence, yes, a big
- 3:15Speaker 1: chunk of the movie was quickly changed inside. I asked
- 3:18Speaker 1: the props department to quickly find a Jenga game and
- 3:21Speaker 1: croquet mallets, et cetera, to make it look like our
- 3:24Speaker 1: characters do actually go outside, but we couldn't show it
- 3:27Speaker 1: snow which days later dissolved into mud.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Oh jeez.
- 3:33Speaker 1: So we had speculated that there was a reason the
- 3:35Speaker 1: majority of this movie takes place in one room. Be
- 3:37Speaker 1: we knew from Julie Sherman Wolf that there was a
- 3:41Speaker 1: ton of snow in this movie, and so many of
- 3:45Speaker 1: the outdoor scenes were moved in and we suspected that
- 3:47Speaker 1: that impacted quite a bit.
- 3:50Speaker 2: So that's going to be so difficult for a director
- 3:52Speaker 2: who has a vision of what it's going to look
- 3:55Speaker 2: like and then boom, you can't do that, and now
- 3:58Speaker 2: you got to shoot in one room. Yeah, I guess
- 4:01Speaker 2: she did best with what.
- 4:03Speaker 1: She had, You know, absolutely, I can I don't like
- 4:07Speaker 1: plans changing away what like my vision was and not
- 4:11Speaker 1: getting my way. So I can envision myself having like
- 4:14Speaker 1: a frustrated cry on the corner thinking about like all
- 4:17Speaker 1: this snow falling down and ruining my beautiful candles in
- 4:21Speaker 1: the pool scene and outdoorsmores. But I do think they
- 4:24Speaker 1: made it work.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Did she have anything else to say?
- 4:29Speaker 1: She just said thank you and we're lovely. So that
- 4:32Speaker 1: was very nice.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Oh good, that's so nice. Like I was when you
- 4:35Speaker 2: told me that she had wrote us an email, written
- 4:38Speaker 2: us an email? I was like, oh no, what did
- 4:41Speaker 2: I say? I liked that movie. I didn't hate that movie.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Did I say bad things about that movie? Oh my god,
- 4:46Speaker 2: I had totally forgotten that I had said a lot
- 4:48Speaker 2: of like unsavory things about another email.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, I did a full body clench when
- 4:58Speaker 1: I saw the email came out, but it was lovely
- 5:01Speaker 1: and of course we do love your emails, so thank
- 5:03Speaker 1: you so much for that, and we welcome additional feedback
- 5:07Speaker 1: about the show. Yeh, this week we're talking about Love
- 5:10Speaker 1: down Under and Wendy, do you have a synopsis?
- 5:13Speaker 2: I do ready, New York Restaurantua. Carolyn inherits a cafe
- 5:19Speaker 2: in Lemon Myrtle Cove, Australia. While there she starts falling
- 5:24Speaker 2: for the place and its people, particularly Simon, the cafes
- 5:29Speaker 2: charming local chef starring Cindy Busby and Tim Ross.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Let's move into some news and notes about this movie.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Mmmm hmm, there's quite a few.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Oh good, I have a couple, Okay, go ahead.
- 5:43Speaker 2: This was filmed on location in Australia, mostly in Queensland.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Some of the village scenes were filmed on the Brisbane
- 5:52Speaker 2: coastline in the suburbs of Shorncliffe and Sandgate, but Lemon
- 5:58Speaker 2: Myrtle Cove is a fictional town.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Indeed, now you might be saying Australia is one of
- 6:05Speaker 1: the countries that has had their COVID Act together and
- 6:07Speaker 1: has not allowed anybody from other countries to come in.
- 6:09Speaker 1: How do they do it? They filmed in twenty nineteen.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yeah, prior to the Apparently Australia has been closed to travelers.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Their borders have been closed since March twenty twenty. I
- 6:23Speaker 2: wasn't aware of that. Okay, I have another news and
- 6:27Speaker 2: note the featured Seagull cafe was actually filmed at a
- 6:31Speaker 2: real cafe called the Hamptons.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I did not know that.
- 6:35Speaker 2: It's so funny because the Hamptons are like a New
- 6:37Speaker 2: York thing, uh huh here in the United States. So
- 6:41Speaker 2: it's funny that Australia has a cafe called the Hamptons.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I wonder what's the relevance there?
- 6:50Speaker 1: If you know, Maan Wendy at gmail dot com.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Do you know the original title of this movie? I do. Indeed,
- 6:58Speaker 2: it was called Romance on the Mad You. It originally
- 7:02Speaker 2: aired on Netflix Australia in twenty twenty. So what we're
- 7:08Speaker 2: looking at here is an acquired movie.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I was gonna say the same thing. That's
- 7:14Speaker 1: very interesting.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Here's my question, and it might be kind of a spoiler.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Why the heck did Hallmark acquire this movie? Because it
- 7:22Speaker 2: was a real stinker.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Is it possible that Hallmark created this movie and sold
- 7:27Speaker 1: it to Netflix Australia for streaming there, and then waited
- 7:31Speaker 1: to put it into their own programming.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Interesting. Interesting, I don't know, I don't know. I need
- 7:38Speaker 2: somebody who'sa on the inside to email us.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And of course, this stars Cindy Busby, who was also
- 7:43Speaker 1: in Chasing Waterfalls, a sprinkling movie that we did not enjoy,
- 7:48Speaker 1: and with that in mind, maybe we jumped to first impression.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Okay, hold on, I have a lot of pages of
- 7:55Speaker 2: notes for this movie. My first impression is what a stinker.
- 8:01Speaker 2: They should have saved their money and showed a rerun
- 8:04Speaker 2: of as luck would have it.
- 8:08Speaker 1: So my first impression is with as many problems as
- 8:12Speaker 1: this movie had, I found myself enjoying it. I don't God, no,
- 8:17Speaker 1: no movie. Oh good mood. Let me set the scene
- 8:21Speaker 1: really quickly. I waited until the very last minute to
- 8:24Speaker 1: watch this movie. And so it's last night at about
- 8:27Speaker 1: seven o'clock and I get out the iPad and I'm
- 8:29Speaker 1: watching the movie, and I was kind of grumpy about it.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I was like, why didn't you start this earlier? It
- 8:35Speaker 1: could have been done anyway, And then found myself the
- 8:38Speaker 1: time flew by. I have a lot of things to
- 8:40Speaker 1: say about the movie. It was not a perfect movie.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It wasn't even necessarily a great movie. Not there are
- 8:45Speaker 1: many movies of this year that rank above it.
- 8:47Speaker 2: And yet I.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Still really it was a pleasant two hours.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Oh my god, we cannot be friends anymore.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Well, did you like anything about this movie?
- 8:58Speaker 2: Well, I'd liked some of the IMDb reviews. Can I
- 9:01Speaker 2: read them real quick?
- 9:01Speaker 1: Oh? I read some too, Go ahead, Yeah, one of.
- 9:03Speaker 2: The worst movies I've ever seen, possibly one of the
- 9:08Speaker 2: worst movies of the year. Couldn't even sit through it,
- 9:12Speaker 2: waste of time, truly embarrassing as an Australian.
- 9:17Speaker 1: It was funny to me that a number of the
- 9:19Speaker 1: IMDb comments were about it as an Australian movie. People
- 9:23Speaker 1: were very upset. This is not a good representation of
- 9:26Speaker 1: Australian film. And I gotta tell you, watching this, I
- 9:30Speaker 1: would not have taken this as Oh I didn't like this.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Not gonna like anything the Aussies.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Have to offer, right, No, Matt.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I did think though, that those comments they were taking
- 9:40Speaker 1: it very personally that this look at Australia was not
- 9:45Speaker 1: particularly well done.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Well, I'm worried that they're like, uh, these Americans put
- 9:50Speaker 2: all their stupid cheese all over our fantastic location and actors.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Okay, did you like anything else about this movie?
- 9:59Speaker 2: I'm scared my notes. I'm scanning my notes. Okay. The
- 10:02Speaker 2: only thing I liked in this movie was the cute
- 10:06Speaker 2: dog in his cute name. Other than that, I hated
- 10:09Speaker 2: everything about it.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I have dispatch on my list of things that I
- 10:12Speaker 1: like as well. I look, I enjoy a movie shot
- 10:15Speaker 1: on location. I thought it had a real summary feel
- 10:19Speaker 1: to it that kind of put me in a good movie,
- 10:21Speaker 1: even though I hate summer. Watching it from my cool
- 10:23Speaker 1: house where it's.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Not hot yet.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Oh, look at their in shorts and it's sunny and
- 10:27Speaker 1: they're on the water. That's making me excited about summer.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Okay. I have a question, though, Yes, did they ever
- 10:34Speaker 2: show in the New York scenes any outdoor because I
- 10:37Speaker 2: can't recall. I only know that she was like in
- 10:40Speaker 2: the kitchen or whatever. They never showed.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Outside, right, No, And I assume that they filmed that
- 10:46Speaker 1: also in Australia.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yes, on a set or whatever. But I was wondering, like, Okay,
- 10:51Speaker 2: now it makes sense like they didn't show her like
- 10:53Speaker 2: walking outside in New York and it's summer in New
- 10:55Speaker 2: York because it wouldn't be seen summer in Australia. Yes,
- 10:59Speaker 2: that's the point I'm trying to make.
- 11:00Speaker 1: See.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I wanted to see if they showed any outside scenes
- 11:05Speaker 2: while she was in New York.
- 11:06Speaker 1: My memory says no, that it's all inside the restaurant.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And even there's like one scene where she almost walks outside,
- 11:12Speaker 1: but she doesn't. They stand in the doorway.
- 11:14Speaker 2: So and what about at the end when he comes back,
- 11:17Speaker 2: when he comes to New York to see.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Her, They're still in the restaurant.
- 11:20Speaker 2: They're inside, right, Okay, all right, go ahead.
- 11:25Speaker 1: The final thing that I liked about this movie is
- 11:29Speaker 1: Caroline's career arc. We complained last week that sometimes our
- 11:34Speaker 1: characters want too much and they have these perfectly lovely careers,
- 11:37Speaker 1: and the Hallmark writers say, Nope, you need to be more,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you need to want more. And I felt like that
- 11:44Speaker 1: wasn't the case for her, and I felt like she
- 11:46Speaker 1: really found her place, she found her way in this
- 11:51Speaker 1: job that she loved, and I appreciated that in comparison
- 11:55Speaker 1: to what we see happened to some of the other
- 11:57Speaker 1: women in these Hallmark movies.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Okay, that's fair. However, you don't have.
- 12:01Speaker 1: To like the movie. It's okay. Oh, I'm not trying
- 12:04Speaker 1: to convince you.
- 12:05Speaker 2: You don't have to. I'm here to tell you I
- 12:07Speaker 2: hated everything about it. I first of all, I have
- 12:11Speaker 2: watched enough Top Chef and enough Hell's Kitchen to know
- 12:16Speaker 2: that she did not embody an executive chef. So I
- 12:22Speaker 2: here's what tell me more. Here's what it breaks down to.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I think Cindy Busby is not a great actress. I
- 12:27Speaker 2: feel like she doesn't emote on her face. They're at
- 12:30Speaker 2: the end where like he's telling her he loves her
- 12:34Speaker 2: or what he wants to be with her or whatever,
- 12:36Speaker 2: and she just has like the same look on her face,
- 12:39Speaker 2: which always looks like she's smelling a fart. Like it's
- 12:43Speaker 2: never great. It drives me crazy. I don't like Cindy Busby.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I said it.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Look that's fair. I have a non positively expressive face,
- 12:57Speaker 1: like I always look angry and it's not true of
- 12:59Speaker 1: my self, not true smile. But my resting face is
- 13:04Speaker 1: not a hobby face.
- 13:05Speaker 2: No, it's fine. Yes, I have what is it called
- 13:08Speaker 2: rf barbia RBF. Yes, I have that all the time too,
- 13:12Speaker 2: But no, her face like when somebody's talking to you Megan,
- 13:17Speaker 2: I talk to you all the time. I see your
- 13:18Speaker 2: face all the time. You react with your face, even
- 13:21Speaker 2: when you're wearing a MASKT No, exactly. I'm just like,
- 13:27Speaker 2: it's like she's thinking about what her next line is.
- 13:31Speaker 2: She's not reacting to the actor in front of her.
- 13:34Speaker 2: It drives me bananas. So I don't want you to say, like, oh,
- 13:38Speaker 2: I do the same thing. No, you have a reactive,
- 13:42Speaker 2: emoting face.
- 13:44Speaker 1: There's something about her, and I don't know if it's
- 13:48Speaker 1: because I have a positive association with her because of
- 13:52Speaker 1: our experience with We talked about this a lot, but
- 13:55Speaker 1: with an old chow called Date my Dad that was
- 13:56Speaker 1: on ap TV, and I kind of have put that
- 14:00Speaker 1: experience behind rose colored glasses, ycause it's you know, we're
- 14:05Speaker 1: several years out from it. That was not a great
- 14:07Speaker 1: TV show, but I really enjoyed the process of working
- 14:11Speaker 1: on that TV show, and so I think I've kind
- 14:13Speaker 1: of like put her and all of the other actors,
- 14:15Speaker 1: some of who I really enjoy, like Maddie Finocchio, I
- 14:19Speaker 1: find highly entertaining. So I think maybe that's my view
- 14:23Speaker 1: of her. I'm like, she's part of this experience that
- 14:25Speaker 1: was very positive for me. And so I give her
- 14:29Speaker 1: a little bit of bonus as a result.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Okay, fine, but I.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Agree with you. She's definitely not my favorite homemark actors.
- 14:39Speaker 2: No, she's not good, not good at all. I mean,
- 14:43Speaker 2: I'm trying. I don't want to compare. I'm trying to
- 14:46Speaker 2: compare her in Chasing Waterfalls and this movie. Which two
- 14:50Speaker 2: movies I hated. I hated Chasing Waterfalls and I hated
- 14:53Speaker 2: this movie.
- 14:53Speaker 1: But this was better, don't you think. Okay, let's compare
- 14:56Speaker 1: the two. Oh, it works or the same?
- 14:59Speaker 2: I don't remember me. We go back and my note
- 15:00Speaker 2: chare and see what I gave Chasing Waterfalls. Go ahead,
- 15:03Speaker 2: you can go ahead and compare the two.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Well, the only comparison that I would offer is that
- 15:08Speaker 1: my viewing experience was more positive. I found myself in
- 15:14Speaker 1: a better mood watching this. I did buy her relationship
- 15:17Speaker 1: a little bit more in this movie I loved. Both
- 15:20Speaker 1: had great lead actors, So that's not a fair comparison.
- 15:24Speaker 1: But I didn't love the premise of Chasing Waterfalls. There
- 15:28Speaker 1: are a lot of things I didn't like. I didn't
- 15:29Speaker 1: like giving the Waterfalls personality. No, there are things I
- 15:32Speaker 1: didn't like about this movie too. And we'll get into that.
- 15:34Speaker 1: But I did enjoy it more. I don't watch one again.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I would choose this one.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I don't have what my rating was for Chasing Waterfalls,
- 15:42Speaker 2: just that I hated it, so don't I don't remember
- 15:46Speaker 2: what I gave that movie.
- 15:47Speaker 1: And the side characters in this movie are much better
- 15:50Speaker 1: than Chasing Waterfalls. Okay, so you will probably have something
- 15:54Speaker 1: to say about this next section, which is what did
- 15:56Speaker 1: you wish for in this movie?
- 15:58Speaker 2: I wish for a better story, better and better wardrobe.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Oh I liked her shorts wardrobe.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Oh my god. Okay, I'm gonna okay, wait, it was
- 16:09Speaker 2: in the digits that but since we're talking about her wardrobe.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Towards the end of the movie, she's wearing a ruffled
- 16:14Speaker 2: like sleeveless shirt with huge belted shorts and these terrible
- 16:20Speaker 2: platform sandals. It's the whole look head to toe is awful,
- 16:25Speaker 2: like they don't go together. It was so bad and
- 16:31Speaker 2: I love I even said it in last week or
- 16:33Speaker 2: the week before, like I love whoever does the costume
- 16:36Speaker 2: for most Hallmark movies because they're so good. This was
- 16:41Speaker 2: so bad.
- 16:43Speaker 1: That's so funny because I know the exact outfit you're discussing,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and I thought, what a cute dressy shorts outfit. I
- 16:50Speaker 1: could not have worn out shorts Cindy Busby's tiny. It
- 16:53Speaker 1: would look like I was wearing a diaper if I
- 16:55Speaker 1: were to wear those high waisted, large shorts. But I
- 16:58Speaker 1: enjoyed her shorts. Let me tell you what I wished for. Okay,
- 17:04Speaker 1: I wished for a rewrite on the fiance story. We
- 17:08Speaker 1: get that story in reverse. We get a little bit
- 17:11Speaker 1: in the very beginning where the mother is kind of saying,
- 17:13Speaker 1: what about Nathaniel, What about Nathaniel. They have a brief
- 17:16Speaker 1: interaction where it becomes clear that he maybe didn't love
- 17:20Speaker 1: her work on the restaurant. Did we even know that
- 17:26Speaker 1: was her fiance in the beginning?
- 17:28Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 17:31Speaker 1: And then when he swings by Australia, which is not
- 17:36Speaker 1: a thing that people do, he calls himself her fiance.
- 17:41Speaker 1: And then they have this argument in which she explains
- 17:46Speaker 1: their relationship by yelling at him to the audience when
- 17:49Speaker 1: she's like, you broke off our engagement because I worked
- 17:53Speaker 1: too hard, and now that it's a success, now you
- 17:55Speaker 1: want to get back together with me. I knew that
- 18:00Speaker 1: the Nathaniel piece was going to be something of a
- 18:03Speaker 1: wrench from the beginning because it was kind of this
- 18:06Speaker 1: uncomfortable moment that they had.
- 18:08Speaker 2: But was it even necessary.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Well, that's a great question, because we already have, like
- 18:14Speaker 1: we needed to have some bit of conflict between Cook
- 18:17Speaker 1: and Caroline. Right.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's called an ocean. They live on two separate continents.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Yes, excellent point, and we already have that. The server
- 18:26Speaker 1: in the restaurant, Marla has this idea in her head
- 18:30Speaker 1: that Cook is seducing Caroline to get her to save
- 18:32Speaker 1: the restaurant, and this is one of those moments where
- 18:37Speaker 1: even though he tells her over and over again that's
- 18:38Speaker 1: not what's happening, she just believes it, And of course
- 18:41Speaker 1: that creates a fifteen second moment of conflict for our characters.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I don't think we also needed their interruption of the
- 18:48Speaker 1: fiance coming in to also further throw a wrench, like
- 18:52Speaker 1: Marla could have ruined that moment as well if we
- 18:57Speaker 1: needed to have, like we have. The fiance comes and
- 19:00Speaker 1: then the very next scene we have Caroline overhearing Marla saying,
- 19:05Speaker 1: like you tried to seduce her and I didn't. That's
- 19:07Speaker 1: not the word she es and it didn't work. And
- 19:11Speaker 1: these scenes are back to back, so I think you
- 19:14Speaker 1: make a good point. Was the fiance necessary No, I
- 19:17Speaker 1: think we get the image that she's a workaholic without
- 19:22Speaker 1: him being.
- 19:22Speaker 2: There, a workaholic with no joy.
- 19:27Speaker 1: And I would also like to say that I wish
- 19:29Speaker 1: that there was less of the dog whining as a
- 19:32Speaker 1: plot point.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I thought the dog was so cute, but like, the
- 19:35Speaker 2: dog only needs to be in one scene. It's not
- 19:37Speaker 2: the movie is not about the dog, but.
- 19:40Speaker 1: The dog whins to punctuate so many moments. She's like
- 19:45Speaker 1: tapping the photo of her aunt. They're always having conversations
- 19:47Speaker 1: with the dog, and the dog is always whining. No,
- 19:49Speaker 1: we don't need that the dog can be in the scene.
- 19:51Speaker 1: He doesn't need to be. He doesn't need to have lines.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It's it's almost like my beef with that with the
- 19:59Speaker 2: you know, kookie hokey music that they'll play. You know,
- 20:02Speaker 2: it was a lot of that. There was a lot
- 20:05Speaker 2: of that in this movie too. But like sometimes it
- 20:08Speaker 2: bugs me more in some movies than others, you know,
- 20:13Speaker 2: like ooh, ooh, I can't articulate it. And I know
- 20:17Speaker 2: that's my point here, my job, but you know what,
- 20:20Speaker 2: I'm talking about when the music is telling me I
- 20:23Speaker 2: have to pay attention.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Well, we discuss this a little bit, but let's make
- 20:27Speaker 1: sure we've touched everything. And we're going on to uh
- 20:30Speaker 1: oh roadblocks in the way over our movie couple. And
- 20:32Speaker 1: in this case, it's not a roadblock, but it's an ocean.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:37Speaker 1: And she doesn't live in California. She lives in New York.
- 20:41Speaker 1: So not only does she have the sixteen hours between
- 20:44Speaker 1: California and Australia, but she's got the sixth between New
- 20:47Speaker 1: York and California. This sounds like a nightmare.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it was so stupid. So like at the end,
- 20:53Speaker 2: she's like, you guys could run the cafe and I'll
- 20:55Speaker 2: just come and check in a couple times a year,
- 20:57Speaker 2: Like what Like that is so hard to do. You're
- 21:02Speaker 2: just gonna jump on a plane. It's not like you're
- 21:06Speaker 2: flying to Las Vegas from California whatever, you know what
- 21:10Speaker 2: I mean. It's a bar trip. Have you been to Australia?
- 21:13Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I have not what my husband has.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I that's like the thought of being on an airplane
- 21:21Speaker 2: that long sounds so daunting to me. I agree, So
- 21:26Speaker 2: to just like be flippant about it in a movie
- 21:29Speaker 2: like I'll just come visit a couple times a year.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Well, and at the end, he says, I know you
- 21:34Speaker 1: live here and I live there, but I feel like
- 21:36Speaker 1: we've got to make this work. And I'm like, dude,
- 21:38Speaker 1: I want a roof for you guys. But she's got to.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Move or he needs to move, right, one of the two.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I mean, come on, sell the damn cafe. It's fine.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Those people will be fine.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Right, I know, why oh why could she not just
- 22:02Speaker 1: I don't know, like, why could she not just give
- 22:04Speaker 1: it to them? Why could she?
- 22:05Speaker 2: I don't like she did. I don't just give it? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 22:08Speaker 2: she inherited this cafe.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Just give it.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Turnover ownership to Tim Ross whatever. That guy's name was,
- 22:15Speaker 2: Cooked Simon whatever. Yeah she whatever. Oh my god, I'm
- 22:19Speaker 2: so fired up about a stupid ass movie.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Well, and we know that the cafe does not make
- 22:24Speaker 1: a lot of money, so keeping it is not really
- 22:26Speaker 1: at a big advantage to her, and she spends alar savings.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Okay, dumb.
- 22:32Speaker 1: The other roadblocks are Caroline's fake fiance returns, and Cook
- 22:37Speaker 1: is accused of faking his affection for her, and of
- 22:39Speaker 1: course Caroline wants to sell the restaurant and put everyone
- 22:44Speaker 1: out of a job. Yeah, is there nowhere else to
- 22:48Speaker 1: work in this tiny.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Little tail right exactly, there's.
- 22:54Speaker 1: And I can understand that, right, like you don't necessarily
- 22:57Speaker 1: want to come in and when their lives by selling.
- 23:01Speaker 1: But this is I think a case where it makes
- 23:03Speaker 1: a lot of sense. Like you said, she lives on
- 23:06Speaker 1: the other side of the planet. It is not necessarily
- 23:11Speaker 1: reasonable for her to hang onto this business. Let's go
- 23:13Speaker 1: to Did you see that.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I talked about? My dis just sees that, So go ahead.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Oh you're done? Yeah, all right, here you go, you ready? Yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna start on a positive note. Either was a
- 23:23Speaker 1: line that I really liked when she Caroline says, don't
- 23:27Speaker 1: you get tired of seeing the same people every day?
- 23:29Speaker 1: And Cook says, I wasn't expecting you. Okay. There's a
- 23:35Speaker 1: scene where she brings cook iced tea, and there is
- 23:39Speaker 1: a distinct sound of ice clinking in the iced tea,
- 23:42Speaker 1: and it is that sound is used to great effect.
- 23:47Speaker 1: There's no ice in the iced a. There's a lemon
- 23:50Speaker 1: in there. There's no ice, certainly not the amount of
- 23:53Speaker 1: ice that would be clinking, clinking, all the way as
- 23:56Speaker 1: she hands it to him on the roof. No, no, okay,
- 24:00Speaker 1: there is an image that they use multiple times in
- 24:02Speaker 1: her restaurant in New York, and that is the image
- 24:05Speaker 1: of the three heads stacked peeking out around the curtain. Now,
- 24:10Speaker 1: does anybody do this anywhere by d in television? Like
- 24:13Speaker 1: all go low, you go high? No?
- 24:16Speaker 2: Right?
- 24:19Speaker 1: There is a line flub in this movie that they kept.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Did you catch it?
- 24:23Speaker 2: No?
- 24:25Speaker 1: Now, I have many comments about this scene. And this
- 24:27Speaker 1: is the food fight scene, which is the driest food
- 24:29Speaker 1: fight I've ever seen. I'm like, there's not an egg,
- 24:32Speaker 1: there's not a Mayo tub in there. It's all dry
- 24:36Speaker 1: goods that you're throwing at each other. And I think
- 24:41Speaker 1: the reason they kept this line flub is because this
- 24:44Speaker 1: is at the point where they had started throwing flowers,
- 24:46Speaker 1: so things were starting to stick to them and make
- 24:48Speaker 1: a mess. And she says, and you looks at me
- 24:52Speaker 1: like that. And it was in the close captioning, and
- 24:56Speaker 1: I reroound to make sure, and it was supposed to
- 24:58Speaker 1: say and you look at me like that. It's very
- 25:00Speaker 1: clear that she's supposed that. She says, and you look
- 25:03Speaker 1: sick me like that, And they just kept going because
- 25:06Speaker 1: that's a lot of cleanup, no budget for reshooting that scene.
- 25:12Speaker 1: In the final scene with I don't understand what's happening
- 25:16Speaker 1: or these reviewers. Was this like a fake Michelin Star situation?
- 25:22Speaker 1: They're taking their fancy smoky dessert out. Yeah, they put
- 25:26Speaker 1: them on two entirely different dessert plates. Oh really, like
- 25:30Speaker 1: they're not even One has like a super high ridge
- 25:33Speaker 1: like a rim that comes straight upwards, and the other
- 25:36Speaker 1: one's flat. It was they weren't even remotely similar. That
- 25:38Speaker 1: seemed odd to me. And finally, the hand drawn map.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Did you see the hand drawn map?
- 25:46Speaker 2: No, I don't think I watched it that closely.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So when she arrives in Australia, now this is a
- 25:51Speaker 1: scene that somebody could come back and explain to me,
- 25:53Speaker 1: because Cook is talking to Caroline and he's like, the
- 25:57Speaker 1: restaurants that way, and the town's that way, and it
- 26:00Speaker 1: it is possible that he said, oh, and I left
- 26:03Speaker 1: you a map in the cottage, but I don't know,
- 26:06Speaker 1: and I remember being mildly distracted. And then she walks
- 26:09Speaker 1: out of the cottage and she's holding an eight and
- 26:11Speaker 1: a half by eleven piece of paper with a hand
- 26:13Speaker 1: drawn map of the town on it. And I don't
- 26:17Speaker 1: know if he had said that he had left a map,
- 26:20Speaker 1: or if this is their town map that someone drew
- 26:23Speaker 1: on a piece of print or paper with hand drawn
- 26:25Speaker 1: little houses to represent the building. I don't know which
- 26:28Speaker 1: one of those things is true. And that's all I
- 26:31Speaker 1: have for digit see that, which means it's time for
- 26:35Speaker 1: the ratings. And I think you might be surprised by
- 26:37Speaker 1: what I rate this movie, but you should go first.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I gave it half a star for Spatch.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Well, I do think you rated this lower than you
- 26:45Speaker 1: rated Chasing Waterfalls. This is a two point twenty five
- 26:47Speaker 1: star for me.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 26:49Speaker 1: I wouldn't actively seek it out to rewatch it. I
- 26:52Speaker 1: did find myself happy watching it.
- 26:54Speaker 2: No, I hated it. I wanted to give it a zero.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I hate Can we do that?
- 26:59Speaker 1: Of course?
- 27:00Speaker 2: Okay, Well it's it gets half a star because I
- 27:02Speaker 2: thought Spatch short for Spatula, was a very clever, cute
- 27:08Speaker 2: name for a dog.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I agree. Now next week we have another standalone movie,
- 27:13Speaker 1: and this movie is going to be very stressful for
- 27:15Speaker 1: me to watch. This movie is called Baby It's Cold Inside,
- 27:17Speaker 1: and it takes place in an ice hotel and this
- 27:19Speaker 1: is not our first Palmark movie in an ice hotel,
- 27:22Speaker 1: and ice hotels give me extreme anxiety. Why well, because
- 27:27Speaker 1: it's ice and ice.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Ice is scary because.
- 27:31Speaker 1: It collapses on you, Oh my god. And then they
- 27:35Speaker 1: have irrational fears. Go ahead, have irrational fears. That doesn't
- 27:38Speaker 1: sound fun to me. What if the giant block of
- 27:40Speaker 1: ice comes loose because it's warmer outside than they anticipate
- 27:44Speaker 1: that it's going to be and crashes in on me.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I Nope, doesn't looks very pretty, though I actually did
- 27:49Speaker 1: think the previews made it look like a funny movie,
- 27:52Speaker 1: so fingers crossed. That's not just clever editing.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I think it looks terrible. Oh no, yeah, yeah. I
- 27:59Speaker 2: can't get excited for the standalones because now I have
- 28:01Speaker 2: watched enough Hallmark this year to know that the standalones
- 28:05Speaker 2: are a dud. If they can't get them into like
- 28:09Speaker 2: a seasonal lineup, they're dead to be.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Except except that on May fifteenth we have Sweet Carolina,
- 28:19Speaker 1: which stars Lacy Shape and Tyler Hyens, and that those
- 28:22Speaker 1: are two powerhouse Hallmark movie actors, So crossing my fingers
- 28:26Speaker 1: for that one. Yeah, we'll see all right, friends. We
- 28:32Speaker 1: will of course be back next Thursday discussing baby It's
- 28:35Speaker 1: Cold Inside, and before that, we be back on Tuesday
- 28:37Speaker 1: with our regular weekly episodes that we would love for
- 28:40Speaker 1: you to tune in. If you have a minute, please sing, buy,
- 28:43Speaker 1: and leave us a rating or review means so much
- 28:45Speaker 1: to us and to our show. And have a great
- 28:48Speaker 1: week everybody. Goodbye, bye guys,
