- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Strickland. The investigation continues into the cause of
- 0:04Speaker 1: a fire that destroyed a house on Ken Mount Road
- 0:07Speaker 1: last Wednesday. The fire, which had the potential to spread
- 0:10Speaker 1: to nearby businesses and surrounding woods, caused some anxious moments,
- 0:14Speaker 1: but the Saint John's Regional Fire Department managed to knock
- 0:17Speaker 1: it down despite a number of challenges. The fire claimed
- 0:21Speaker 1: the lives of two pets, a dog and a chameleon.
- 0:24Speaker 1: RNC says fire investigators are continuing their probe. It was
- 0:29Speaker 1: Brown's Family Farm to the rescue in response to a
- 0:33Speaker 1: very real but unusual problem at Frontline Action over the weekend.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Brown's Family Farm answered the call after a colony of
- 0:40Speaker 1: honeybees established itself in an old propane tank on the
- 0:43Speaker 1: Paintball Course. Frontline owner Tom Davis says he was amazed
- 0:48Speaker 1: by the operation.
- 0:49Speaker 2: They came out and they put a box and they
- 0:51Speaker 2: put a special scent in it, and a couple of
- 0:53Speaker 2: bees went in it. But it wasn't enough, so they
- 0:56Speaker 2: ended up taking a reciprocating song, cutting this big propate
- 0:59Speaker 2: tank in half. They didn't use smoke, apparently the bees
- 1:02Speaker 2: are very dotha. You can imagine if you're in your
- 1:04Speaker 2: home and someone cuts it in half with it with
- 1:06Speaker 2: the reciprocating side, you'd think that would upset you, but
- 1:08Speaker 2: apparently they just kind of took it in stride. They
- 1:11Speaker 2: reached down and they found the queen. They put the
- 1:14Speaker 2: queen in their box. Thousands of bees migrated and followed
- 1:17Speaker 2: that queen into the box and off they went.
- 1:20Speaker 1: David says the entire operation took no more than an hour.
- 1:25Speaker 1: The provincial government is assessing the province's shipbuilding capacity in
- 1:29Speaker 1: an attempt to fulfill its election commitment to construct new ferries.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Master mariner Chris Drodge says any efforts to expand shipbuilding
- 1:37Speaker 1: capacity in the province is welcome news. He says, there
- 1:41Speaker 1: are a couple of possibilities with a number of industrial
- 1:44Speaker 1: sites that could potentially fit the bill.
- 1:46Speaker 3: You know, we've been hearing a lot about bull Arm.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I think that facility is quite capable of hosting a shipyard.
- 1:53Speaker 3: But we also have new doc in Saint John's and
- 1:55Speaker 3: they're also talking about expanding, you know, so two exciting
- 1:59Speaker 3: other areas of the there is potential. I guess in Stevenville,
- 2:02Speaker 3: you know the large port out there, and of course
- 2:05Speaker 3: you know up in the you know Tradin Bay, there's
- 2:07Speaker 3: other ports. But like when you talk about the big
- 2:10Speaker 3: industrial sites that exist right now, which would probably be
- 2:14Speaker 3: more focused on would probably be be bull Arm, New
- 2:17Speaker 3: doc here in Saint John's and you know potentially Mary'stown.
- 2:22Speaker 1: The Connors and new Hook Elite Hockey camp is cutting
- 2:26Speaker 1: up the ice in conception based out The camp, which
- 2:29Speaker 1: is in its second year, was created by local p
- 2:31Speaker 1: WHL player Maggie Connors, who wanted to provide young female
- 2:35Speaker 1: athletes with opportunities that she didn't have while growing up.
- 2:39Speaker 4: It was a few years ago when I started kind
- 2:41Speaker 4: of crafting into my head. But to be honest, it's
- 2:44Speaker 4: something I've always thought of growing up and being able
- 2:47Speaker 4: to play hockey in Newfoundland and know when I was younger,
- 2:50Speaker 4: there wasn't a ton of female opportunities, especially in terms
- 2:53Speaker 4: of camps being coached by female staff. It's always something
- 2:57Speaker 4: I have thought of, but I'd say I really came
- 2:59Speaker 4: to fruish in the only three years ago.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Now.
- 3:02Speaker 1: This year, Connors partnered with another local PWHL player, Abby
- 3:06Speaker 1: new Hook to run the camp together. That's your news.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I'm Sarah Strickland.
