- 0:31I'm all tangled up in cords.
- 0:33You weird news music.
- 0:36Welcome to drive through episode number 46.
- 0:39This is our monthly recap where we put together a menu of automotive,
- 0:43motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 0:47Let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 0:50Eric.
- 0:51There wasn't anything at all car related that happened this weekend.
- 0:55Was there not at all?
- 0:56The month of June is devoid of car things in general.
- 0:59Yeah, this will be a pretty short episode, but welcome back, Brad.
- 1:02We missed you last month.
- 1:03Yeah.
- 1:03Yeah.
- 1:04I had family stuff going on and I could have tried to make it, but it would, it
- 1:08would have been a disservice to the fans.
- 1:10All two of them.
- 1:11Well, big shout out to William, big money Ross for stepping in and filling
- 1:14in for you is great episode last month.
- 1:16So thank you again, William, if you're listening.
- 1:18It wouldn't be a drive through episode if we didn't just kick
- 1:20it into high gear right away.
- 1:21So let's talk about some Cybertruck updates.
- 1:23Brad, I know you still haven't got ready of your allotment, but we are seeing
- 1:26more and more of these on the road.
- 1:27I'm walking away from it and I have actually seen one in
- 1:30person in my neighborhood.
- 1:31I'm going to see your, I've seen it in person and I'm going to up you
- 1:35to got a private tour from an owner.
- 1:37So here's how it played out.
- 1:40Was driving with my eldest daughter.
- 1:42We were going somewhere and I spotted it in the distance up on a hill.
- 1:45And I just.
- 1:46Slammed the brakes, turned in, I was like, I gotta see this thing in person.
- 1:48Was it stuck?
- 1:50It looked like it was.
- 1:51My daughter goes, Dad, there's one of these at school now.
- 1:53It's so ugly.
- 1:55Yeah, I just want to see it in person.
- 1:57So first impressions, right?
- 1:58And I'm in my station wagon, which by the standards of 20 years ago was huge.
- 2:02But compared to the cyber truck, it's like pulling up next to a semi truck.
- 2:06I mean, it is as big.
- 2:07It's like an F250.
- 2:09It is enormous.
- 2:10Okay, fine.
- 2:11So then I bump into the owner and I'm like, Hey, is this your Cybertruck?
- 2:14He's like, yeah, he's an older guy.
- 2:16And he starts telling me about it and how long it took to get it
- 2:19and how long he's been waiting.
- 2:20He's got two other Teslas and he just loves it and how fast it is and
- 2:24this and that and the other thing.
- 2:25And I'm like, Oh, okay.
- 2:26And I'm looking at it for all the things that we've critiqued it.
- 2:29Panel gaps and the finish and the ripples in the stainless and just
- 2:35everything that people have made fun of or mentioned are 100 percent true.
- 2:39But he continues on.
- 2:40He's like, let me show you around the truck.
- 2:41So he's super excited.
- 2:42He's so stoked, right?
- 2:43I'm like, Hey, I mean, good for you.
- 2:45You're a proud owner of a cyber truck.
- 2:47I'm going to start with that tonneau cover.
- 2:49Should we even call that a tonneau cover?
- 2:51Sure.
- 2:52Yeah.
- 2:52It's a tonneau cover.
- 2:53Okay, not the roll up weird IKEA garage door thing they use to cover the trunk.
- 2:58Okay.
- 2:58It's not a Tigre cover.
- 3:01Truck owners know what I'm talking about.
- 3:02The Tigre brand.
- 3:03Oh yeah.
- 3:04So get this, the buttons to operate said tonneau cover because it does
- 3:08retract into that rear firewall there, the beginning of the truck bed.
- 3:13The buttons are all long that I don't know what to call it.
- 3:16Cause there's no pillars in the Cybertruck.
- 3:18So let's say where the D pillar would be, you know, the back of the truck bed, the
- 3:22button is there exposed to the elements.
- 3:24And I was thinking to myself, can I just walk up to any Cybertruck
- 3:28and open the tunnel cover?
- 3:29Cause the buttons are right there.
- 3:31You probably need the key, which isn't a key.
- 3:33It's a credit card.
- 3:34Well, proximity, whatever.
- 3:36If you're close enough with the credit card key, Bob, whatever it is.
- 3:40It probably acknowledges, okay, this is the owner.
- 3:43Okay.
- 3:43To unlock.
- 3:44I was like, all right, cool.
- 3:46And you know, he's showing me about how it's got electric charging.
- 3:48He's like, I can charge my other Tesla from this one.
- 3:51If I were to run out of juice and I'm kind of like trying not to smirk because I'm
- 3:55thinking about the Ford F one 50 lightning and some of the other trucks that, you
- 3:58know, have the built in generators and this, that, and I'm like, wait a minute.
- 4:01So you in emergency will rescue your Tesla.
- 4:04With your Tesla.
- 4:05I'm like, I guess that's doable.
- 4:06Sure.
- 4:07Fine.
- 4:07So we make our way around to the front.
- 4:10So the frunk is ridiculous.
- 4:12What I didn't know is the whole front end basically opens up and those lights
- 4:16that we discovered that are underneath kind of in between the stainless steel
- 4:20and the bumper that are there, the actual headlights, not that wraparound
- 4:24led running light thing that's there.
- 4:25That whole clamshell is one piece.
- 4:27And I was like, okay, well, it's a decent size frunk.
- 4:30And so then we get to the interior and I just cannot help myself but stare
- 4:34at the A frame that is the side of the Cybertruck and like how they designed the
- 4:40window and the door seals and how it all comes together and I'm just like, it's
- 4:45a marvel of engineering to make a circle fit inside of a triangle and not leak.
- 4:50That's what I kept thinking the whole time I looked at this, but when he went
- 4:53to go open the door, which has no door handles, you know, it's a funny Tesla,
- 4:56put your palm up against and add more fingerprints to the stainless steel, and
- 5:00then the door suddenly like pops open like magic, but I noticed that the window
- 5:04drops down like two and a half inches.
- 5:06To be able to clear the angles, you know, how like on a challenger, the
- 5:10old Audi TT, some of the Porsches where they have like frameless doors,
- 5:14you get up to the car, you pull the handle, the window drops down.
- 5:16Well, it does the same thing, but it's like two and a half inches.
- 5:19It's absolutely nuts.
- 5:20And I was thinking to myself, so it's raining outside.
- 5:22This thing has no gutters.
- 5:24For the water off the roof.
- 5:26The roof is like a ski jump and it's got to open two and a half inches.
- 5:30It's going to flood inside the car every time it rains.
- 5:32And guess what's right there.
- 5:33You know, the limited controls that it has are right there where water would hit it.
- 5:36So I was like, this is genius.
- 5:38So I start looking around inside of it because it's so big.
- 5:41The bed is short to me.
- 5:42It looked like a six foot bed.
- 5:44Maybe it's an eight foot bed.
- 5:45People could correct me, but it looks short.
- 5:46The backseat is huge.
- 5:48But it's awkward to get in and out of.
- 5:50You know, he's about six foot tall, the owner of this Cybertruck.
- 5:53And I said, do you mind getting in?
- 5:54Cause I didn't want to get in his car.
- 5:55And he gets in and he's like kind of contorting his neck because of,
- 5:58again, this church apex that it makes for the two doors to come together.
- 6:03I was like, that just looks weird.
- 6:04And I asked him about visibility and this and that, and there is no back
- 6:09window, again because of the roll up tonneau cover and the firewall that's
- 6:13back there, but it does have the glass roof just like a Tesla Model Y, which I
- 6:17recently rode in one when I was in Tampa.
- 6:19So I was like, okay, I'm starting to see some of the design language
- 6:21from the other Teslas in this, this, and that, and the other thing.
- 6:23So I'm assuming it's a two piece roof.
- 6:25To come to a point like that, it's not molded as a triangle.
- 6:29It's a whole lot of stuff.
- 6:30And when you see it up close, you start to really understand how it's put together.
- 6:35And I'm like, okay, fine.
- 6:36The interior reminded me of the Honda.
- 6:40Civic now the element reminded me the element I looked like I could
- 6:44take a fire hose and just clean it all out whenever I wanted.
- 6:48So it was very rubber made and you don't need to do that because the
- 6:50windows go down, but you can't do that because it's short circuit.
- 6:53The whole thing.
- 6:54Exactly.
- 6:55That's true.
- 6:55It looked really cheap.
- 6:57Not to say compared to the other Teslas, but just in general, it wasn't even
- 7:01like, okay, well, we got those hardened mats and Rhino lines and monster this,
- 7:06and you know, like all pickup trucks have where they got that kind of
- 7:08everything sort of plastic and rugged.
- 7:10It just felt cheap and old.
- 7:12And I don't know, I didn't really like it.
- 7:14But I did key in on something and I had pictures of all
- 7:16this stuff in the show notes.
- 7:17It has a rear view mirror.
- 7:19So hold on a second.
- 7:19We can't see out the back.
- 7:21How does the rear view mirror work?
- 7:22He goes, Oh, it's fake.
- 7:23Is it an actual mirror?
- 7:24Is it?
- 7:24It's not digital.
- 7:25Like the, so the Corvettes, the new C8s have the digital mirror
- 7:28with the camera in the back.
- 7:29That's what they did on the Cybertruck.
- 7:31It's just a camera.
- 7:32It's a screen.
- 7:33It's not a real mirror.
- 7:34So I was like, okay, well, that's fair because a lot of the ones that we've
- 7:37seen don't have rear view mirrors at all.
- 7:39Yeah.
- 7:40Can confirm the transmission buttons are the middle piece above the rear
- 7:46view mirror, which is even more awkward with the rear view mirror and the visors
- 7:50attached to it and all that whole kind of thing that we talked about last month.
- 7:53So I was sort of like scratching my head on that.
- 7:55So far, I'm not impressed.
- 7:57Okay, that's cool.
- 7:58I'm sucking it all and he keeps showing me stuff and showing me stuff
- 8:01and check this out, check that out.
- 8:02And then finally, the one thing that got me and that I got to give it props
- 8:06for, it's a big truck and it's heavy.
- 8:08We know that it's on air suspension.
- 8:11I didn't know.
- 8:12And he's like, check out how high and how fast this air suspension works.
- 8:16And I'm like, all right, it's a button.
- 8:18It's like, whoosh, it's up 6 inches.
- 8:20And then it's like, whoosh up.
- 8:22It goes again.
- 8:23Another 6 inches.
- 8:23Like, it can get up really high.
- 8:25Really fast.
- 8:26And I was thinking, okay, my Jeep's got air.
- 8:29It's the old Mercedes air suspension.
- 8:32It's 10 years old.
- 8:33It wasn't fast when it was new, but I've never seen anything move
- 8:37that fast on an air suspension.
- 8:39I was like, that's really cool.
- 8:41Granted, how long is that going to last?
- 8:43I don't know.
- 8:43So questions for how useful is the speed of the air rise, the air
- 8:48suspension elevation, because first of all, can you do it while in motion?
- 8:53I don't think you can.
- 8:54Cause I asked him about that and he sort of diverted his answer to talking
- 8:58about how it rides so smooth and the adjustments and it's like a Cadillac.
- 9:02And I was with you on that.
- 9:03I'm like.
- 9:03In my jeep, I have to be stationary in order to change the height.
- 9:07Now, granted when I'm going down the highway, it will adjust.
- 9:10It goes into aerodynamic mode.
- 9:12He did say that it does have an aero mode where it lowers
- 9:15itself going down the road.
- 9:18I was like, I don't think it lowers itself more than stock, but yes.
- 9:21To your point of laughing, I'm like, it's a brick.
- 9:23I don't know how aerodynamic it is.
- 9:25How does a skyscraper have aero mode?
- 9:28Yeah, I was like, whatever.
- 9:30I thought that was cool.
- 9:31I will say the one armed polka dotted purple people eater that is the windshield
- 9:35wiper, man, that thing is nasty looking.
- 9:38That single armed, Monstrosity.
- 9:39It's huge.
- 9:40It's like six feet long.
- 9:41Cause that front glass is enormous.
- 9:43The truck is 12 feet wide.
- 9:44So it needs a six foot long windshield.
- 9:46Unbelievably big.
- 9:48At the end of the day, I was like, you know what?
- 9:50This was great because I got to see one in person and I didn't have to deal with
- 9:53a salesperson or listen to a bunch of BS.
- 9:56And I got it straight from an enthusiastic owner.
- 9:58Now does it change my opinion of the Cybertruck?
- 10:00Hell no.
- 10:01Oh God.
- 10:01What a farce that thing is.
- 10:03So don't feel bad that you got to get rid of your allotment
- 10:06or walk away from it, Brad.
- 10:07I don't think you'd like it.
- 10:08Although I think you'd fit in it.
- 10:09I don't feel bad.
- 10:10How would I fit in it?
- 10:11Because I mean, you said the guy was the six feet tall, but he still
- 10:15had to scrunch himself to get in.
- 10:17In the back.
- 10:18Oh, in the back.
- 10:19But in the front, you see your head would be in the cupola,
- 10:22the steeple of the church.
- 10:23So you have plenty of room there.
- 10:25And then when that leaks, it'll drip right on your head.
- 10:28Well, yeah, yeah, it might collapse like Notre Dame too.
- 10:31You just get more Home Depot caulk to reseal it, just caulk it up.
- 10:35Well, speaking of the French, as you said, you know, June is a boring
- 10:39month when it comes to motorsports.
- 10:41Because, you know, we got no racing happening in June,
- 10:44nothing iconic whatsoever.
- 10:46No, no, no.
- 10:47Yeah, just, you know.
- 10:48Totally terrible.
- 10:49So let's talk about France.
- 10:50Shall we?
- 10:51Great country.
- 10:52Love it.
- 10:52101st anniversary, 92nd running of the 24 hours of Le Mans.
- 10:58So what do we think?
- 10:58Did you guys watch it?
- 11:00I got to watch probably two or three hours of it.
- 11:04I got to watch the start.
- 11:05I got to watch about an hour of rain delay.
- 11:09And then I got, and then I got to watch the final hour.
- 11:13Oh man.
- 11:14Okay.
- 11:15So my viewing of Lamar was really broken up because we did the ACO viewing
- 11:20party in Detroit at M1 concourse.
- 11:22And so we watched it from start to dark European time.
- 11:25So we got kicked off at 10 in the morning.
- 11:27We ran until about 5 PM us time.
- 11:30And so we got to watch the race.
- 11:31There are big screens and we had a lot of things going on and we'll kind of
- 11:34dive into that more as we go along here.
- 11:36And then, you know, we had to take a break.
- 11:38Kind of catch it a little bit later.
- 11:39Then it was like, Oh, we got a dinner with these people.
- 11:41This, that, and meanwhile, you're like, kind of, you know, staring
- 11:44at your phone under the table, trying to keep track of positions
- 11:47and the race and stuff like that.
- 11:48But to your point, although it's not new, they implemented it last year, the new
- 11:52safety car protocol, that first hour long, we were like, well, we're going to dinner
- 11:57as they try to get the dog off the track.
- 11:59And it took them like an hour with the reformation and the re gridding and all
- 12:02this stuff that they're doing, which IMSA implemented a couple of years ago,
- 12:05as we noted, when we went to Rolex.
- 12:07On a track that's nine miles long and you've got three groups of safety cars
- 12:12and all this NASCAR push to the front, we're going to get around these people
- 12:15and get back on loop or whatever.
- 12:17It was like, it's nuts.
- 12:17It takes forever.
- 12:19But that big rain delay in the middle of the night, David Middleton
- 12:21and I were together for the race.
- 12:23And that rain delay was insane because.
- 12:27We both looked at each other and said, you know what?
- 12:28It's time to go to bed.
- 12:29It ended up being over four hours of safety car.
- 12:33So can you imagine being behind a pace car doing, I don't know, they're trying
- 12:37to push it in the rain, but let's just say they're doing 80 mile an hour
- 12:40at night at Le Mans for four hours.
- 12:43Put in every bronze driver on the planet.
- 12:46And let them get all their seat time, at least that way they can't
- 12:49damage the car when you go back green again, but four hours of rain delay.
- 12:53I mean that really, really put a damper on the situation.
- 12:58I think you just answered the question for me then because
- 13:01it was strictly a rain delay.
- 13:03It wasn't because of a big off or a big shunt or anything.
- 13:06It was just a rain delay.
- 13:07It started with one of the Cadillacs going off.
- 13:10In the rain and then it just continued and the rain got worse and worse and worse.
- 13:14So they just kept the safety car out.
- 13:16But like I said, there was an hour safety car delay earlier that evening for a
- 13:21dog that had wandered onto the track that they were trying to get a hold of.
- 13:24And it was just like, okay, so we got five hours of safety car in
- 13:28total, not including a lot of the other yellows that they had, but
- 13:32it was like, Oh God, this is bad.
- 13:34You know, you watch the replays from last year in the rain, and you're seeing
- 13:37cars spinning off and doing this and doing that, and I'm like, okay, you
- 13:41know, shit happens, but you guys have the most expensive rain tires on the
- 13:44planet, and you want to tell me you can't get out there and turn laps?
- 13:47I mean, what are they going to do, be like NASCAR next and just
- 13:50park it if it starts raining?
- 13:51Yeah, I don't know.
- 13:52I was wondering the same thing.
- 13:54It was like just having a rain delay.
- 13:56I mean, was there lightning?
- 13:57I mean, what's the context?
- 13:58What is there more to the story?
- 14:00Heavy rain, not even like a torrential downpour, but just heavy rain.
- 14:03And they were like, all right, we're going to put everybody behind the pace car.
- 14:06And because I slept through the safety part and we kind of set an alarm once we
- 14:10heard that it was going to be hours of this, and they were tracking the radar.
- 14:14I kept thinking to myself, In four hours on a track that long, I guess
- 14:17the safety car has to come in for fuel.
- 14:19How does that work?
- 14:22So I missed all that.
- 14:23Like, I'm wondering, like, if they had to switch safety cars and stuff.
- 14:25So I, you know, I'll go back and not watch the replay.
- 14:28They probably had a team of safety cars and they just, it was like a relay race.
- 14:31They just passed the baton to the next car.
- 14:34Had to be.
- 14:34But let's talk about how Le Mans ended.
- 14:36Well, first of all, I got a question.
- 14:38Speaking of Ferraris, what happened to the 83, the yellow Ferrari?
- 14:41It was in first place when I first saw it, it was like jockeying with,
- 14:44with that in the Cadillac and then all of a sudden he's out of the race.
- 14:48The Cadillac was just like weighed down.
- 14:50Electrical gremlins.
- 14:52So I had an electrical failure and that was the end of that.
- 14:55So whether it was in the hybrid unit or in the system itself, it took the car
- 14:58out, which brought the 50 and 51 car back into the fray, but it could have been
- 15:03a Ferrari one, two, three had the other car, the yellow car stayed in, but instead
- 15:07it was a good battle there for a while.
- 15:08For a while, even Cadillac was in the mix for potentially being at the front.
- 15:13Everybody had high hopes on the nine 63, but I keep saying it's a turd.
- 15:18Yeah.
- 15:18Porsche was no, would they come in fourth?
- 15:20Yeah.
- 15:21By the end they were in fourth, but there was only one.
- 15:23The other Porsches were way further down and it's, it's
- 15:26another bad hand for Penske.
- 15:27But still I'm like, dude, this nine 63, I don't think it's
- 15:31going to make it another year.
- 15:32They got to replace this car.
- 15:34People keep saying, Oh, it's so good in the rest of the
- 15:36season, but it sucks at Le Mans.
- 15:38So Ferrari one in three at the end, taking the podium first and third.
- 15:42I thought that was pretty awesome with Toyota sandwiched in the middle.
- 15:46Toyota tried to make a push there towards the end, but again, it
- 15:49was beginning to rain again.
- 15:51It was pretty gross weather conditions compared to last year.
- 15:54They just didn't have it.
- 15:55It just wasn't there.
- 15:56You're missing one of the most important parts, or one of the most dramatic parts.
- 16:00That Peugeot put a wing on their car?
- 16:02The number, what was it, the number 50 Ferrari, almost practically
- 16:06coasted across the line.
- 16:07Yeah.
- 16:08Because he was so low on energy and fuel.
- 16:10And what was really annoying was, and we were getting the broadcast
- 16:14The, uh, the Euro sport feed directly from France and then also
- 16:17HBO Max was carrying the same feed.
- 16:19So we're sitting there and they kept showing the virtual energy tank.
- 16:23I'm like, I don't care.
- 16:24This is make believe numbers.
- 16:26Show me the gap.
- 16:27I want to know if Toyota is closing in on the Ferrari and we're going to
- 16:30have a situation where suddenly it's a second and a half behind and he's
- 16:33going to pass him in the last turn.
- 16:35Luckily that didn't happen, but I was like, Damn it.
- 16:37Show me some legitimate telemetry.
- 16:40That virtual energy thing is such garbage.
- 16:42Like, I can't stand it.
- 16:44Just get rid of it.
- 16:44It's the monster energy graph, the monster energy gauge, how much monsters on board.
- 16:51I was disappointed to hear that.
- 16:53Valentino Rossi didn't get to do much since his teammate wrecked the car.
- 16:58Yeah, I had really high hopes for Valentino as well.
- 17:01I was pretty excited.
- 17:02Now, granted the Beamer is not the fastest in GT3.
- 17:05Honors went again to everybody else but BMW.
- 17:10But, you know, same thing is true in, in hypercar BMW brought out their
- 17:14LMP one car and it was looking good.
- 17:17It was looking promising, especially in qualifying and all that kind of stuff.
- 17:20But then at the end of the day, Alpine ended up looking better than BMW.
- 17:25They were in the top five for the longest time.
- 17:27And then they suffered some issues with the car.
- 17:29And what happened to Lamborghini?
- 17:30Lamborghini didn't look good either.
- 17:32No, they were having some issues.
- 17:33They kept spinning the car off and stuff like that.
- 17:36But the iron links Lamborghini hypercar.
- 17:38Looks really cool.
- 17:41I'm really excited to have something else in the mix compared to maybe the Glicken
- 17:45Haases and the van wall from last year that really didn't belong in LMP one.
- 17:50That Lamborghini belongs there.
- 17:52And I think with some refinement, some evolution in that program,
- 17:56we're going to see Lamborghini closer to the top next year.
- 17:59I will say aesthetically, I was very.
- 18:02Happy to see the Toyota in black.
- 18:04Yeah, it looks really sharp.
- 18:06It looked like a, like a Knight Rider type.
- 18:08Okay, so what did you think of the BMW art car then?
- 18:11No, no.
- 18:12The Toyota in black and then of course the Ferrari in red.
- 18:15Just nice looking car.
- 18:16And the Ferrari in yellow too.
- 18:18I mean, ketchup or mustard, which, what's your pleasure?
- 18:20Of course.
- 18:20They all look good.
- 18:21So, Le Mans wasn't a total waste.
- 18:23It was a little ho hum compared to last year, but for every
- 18:27negative in the negative column, there were some positives, right?
- 18:30So, I'll bring up two that I think are especially important into
- 18:33going into next year's Le Mans.
- 18:3423 LMP1 cars started.
- 18:38That's the biggest field in LMP1 for years now.
- 18:43I mean, that was awesome to see all those manufacturers.
- 18:46You mean hypercar, GTP, whatever they're calling it.
- 18:49I'm gonna stick to LMP one.
- 18:50All right.
- 18:50They're hypercar.
- 18:51Now in, in prior years, the only cars I cared about, I mean, this is like two
- 18:55years ago when it was really just Toyota running against Toyota and then the
- 18:59Gibsons, all the, yeah, the rebellions.
- 19:02Yeah.
- 19:02I only cared about the GT three cars.
- 19:04Now I don't even know who's running in GT three.
- 19:06I only care about the hypercar.
- 19:08Now , glad you bring up GT three because that's the other positive.
- 19:11When you looked at the GT three field this year.
- 19:14You thought you were at an IMSA race.
- 19:15You had Corvette and Lamborghini and Ferrari and Porsche and BMW and Lexus,
- 19:22just to kind of name a few of the entrants in GT3 GT3 was looking at me.
- 19:26I was like, Lexus at Lamar since when, since right now.
- 19:31And that's exciting.
- 19:32And that's what we've been all hoping for when WEC and IMSA started
- 19:36to get closer and closer together.
- 19:37So those GT cars from IMSA are able to come over and compete at Le Mans.
- 19:42I think that's awesome.
- 19:43And now granted, Lexus didn't do great, but who cares?
- 19:46They were there.
- 19:47Yeah, exactly.
- 19:48And you had the BMWs there too.
- 19:49And it wasn't the M8 that's the size of a school bus.
- 19:52So I thought that was really cool.
- 19:54And so again, for every negative that this race was, it's a positive.
- 19:59Going into next year's race.
- 20:00So I'm really stoked for 2025 and more importantly about 2025.
- 20:06And we'll talk about this later.
- 20:07You got to double down next year.
- 20:08You've got Lamar and you have the Lamar classic.
- 20:12And we'll talk about that a little bit later.
- 20:14We also have the 24 hours of the Nürburgring, don't forget that.
- 20:16But we also did an activation for the newest and latest and
- 20:20greatest in the simulation world.
- 20:22It's the officially licensed product from the WEC.
- 20:25That's the governing body behind the series that Le Mans
- 20:28is part of and the ACO itself.
- 20:29We did an activation of Le Mans Ultimate.
- 20:32So we did a competition there with some really cool giveaways that William from
- 20:35Exotic Car Marketplace put together from the new Velari collection and from Tazio
- 20:39Magazine, which, so we had a lot of fun.
- 20:40We actually live streamed the whole activation.
- 20:42So if we could.
- 20:43Stop in and people would send us chats and we would respond back to them.
- 20:46William kept jumping in and doing these funny, like little commercials
- 20:49and give them play by plays and stuff.
- 20:51And we did a couple of shootouts.
- 20:52I mean, it was a lot of fun and it was cool that we had motion simulators there.
- 20:56We had stuff that people could divert themselves, you know, when we were
- 20:58waiting for safety cars or whatever.
- 21:01So that was a lot of fun.
- 21:02I really enjoyed it.
- 21:03You know, we put a lot of effort into researching.
- 21:06Lamont ultimate doing our own time trials, you know, the
- 21:08calibration, we tried to make it as enjoyable for people as possible.
- 21:11And we'd interview them as they came off the machines.
- 21:13They're like, wow, I've never done anything like this.
- 21:15This was really cool.
- 21:16You know, how do I get more into this?
- 21:18And mad props to David Milton and MIE racing for sponsoring
- 21:22that and putting it all together.
- 21:23And we look forward to doing more activations like that in the future.
- 21:26So pay attention to our calendar and to other things going on where
- 21:29Lamont's ultimate might be showing up.
- 21:31But that wasn't the only thing we did in the good old city of Detroit.
- 21:35We were in Motown running around.
- 21:37When we got there, we actually got together with another
- 21:40guest of the show, Jack Teeter.
- 21:42He's the great nephew of Ralph R.
- 21:45Teeter, the blind automotive engineer that created the cruise control,
- 21:48something that we take for granted in every everyday car these days.
- 21:52We were invited to the premiere of his film, Blind Logic.
- 21:56Which covers 134 years of history, starting from when Ralph Tito was
- 22:00born in the late 1800s up until when he died in his 90s and how
- 22:04things continued on from there.
- 22:05So really well done 90 minute film.
- 22:08If you missed it, or you missed any of the screenings that had
- 22:11happened up until the premiere.
- 22:12Have no fear.
- 22:13There will be a version coming out available that you'll be
- 22:15able to stream and check out.
- 22:17So Jack's still working on all those details.
- 22:19So I can't say too much more on that or like which service it's coming on,
- 22:22but it's definitely worth the watch.
- 22:23You're going to learn a lot.
- 22:24And I think it's a hidden gem in the automotive world.
- 22:27And it's a great story to understand like where this tool that we use every
- 22:30day in our cars came from the reasoning behind it and how it was designed and
- 22:35how long it took to get into production too, which was kind of mind boggling.
- 22:38Very, very cool.
- 22:39So blind logic.
- 22:40And then while we were there, we also met up with two time guests at the show.
- 22:44And little birdie's telling me maybe three time guests at the show here.
- 22:48Lynn St.
- 22:48James.
- 22:49We met up with her.
- 22:50We actually got her to sign one of her books as she's promised
- 22:53that she would do in the past.
- 22:55We had a great conversation with her and some interesting stuff going on there.
- 22:58Maybe some.
- 22:59Other stuff that we can do in conjunction with women in the future.
- 23:02So looking forward to seeing Lynn again in the fall, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
- 23:05And then we also got to sit down with evening with a legend and legends
- 23:11liaison of the ACO USA, Rick Newp.
- 23:13He won at Lamar.
- 23:1540 years ago in 1984 in a Kremer Porsche 935, very cool to hear his stories.
- 23:22He had been to Lamar one other time before that really nice guy.
- 23:26Looking forward to seeing Rick again later this year.
- 23:28So we got to sit down with other legends of Lamar.
- 23:30When we were at Detroit, we got to sit down with, you know, Indy
- 23:33500 rookie of the year, Lynn St.
- 23:34James, also Trans Am winner, all those kinds of things.
- 23:36Got to meet up with Jack Teeter.
- 23:38So we were busy.
- 23:38And then.
- 23:39That wasn't enough.
- 23:40We ran into guests of the show, Bill Warner, formerly of Amelia Island at
- 23:44the eyes on design, Concord, elegant at the Ford house there on the lake
- 23:49gross point, Michigan, and which is the oldest state of Edsel Ford.
- 23:53And so they do a annual concourse there every year and it's based on car design.
- 23:58And this year actually featured a lot of the Italian greats, the Bertone's,
- 24:02the Pininfarina's, the Gandini's, the Giugiaro's and things like that.
- 24:06And what's cool about the Concord is.
- 24:08They pick the designers, they pick the types of cars to bring in and then
- 24:11owners bring their cars to the show.
- 24:13And there's one of each of a certain type of the designer in the category.
- 24:18And then they bring the cars up and they talk about them in a
- 24:19very pebble beach sort of way.
- 24:21So that was a lot of fun, took a ton of pictures.
- 24:23There's actually an article in the clubhouse website where you
- 24:25can check all that stuff out.
- 24:27But more importantly, it brings us to a.
- 24:29EV and concept car that we talked about in the past.
- 24:32One that we made fun of and I think Brad has changed his mind on.
- 24:35Do you guys remember the Cadillac Celestique?
- 24:38Yes, I've seen one in person.
- 24:39What did you think?
- 24:40Yeah, there are a few pretty high dollar electric cars roaming around
- 24:46and the Celestique is one of those.
- 24:48It's along with the Cybertruck and God knows how many of the
- 24:51Porsche, the Taycan and Rivians.
- 24:53I mean, you can't throw a stick without hitting a Rivian.
- 24:55I like it.
- 24:56It's smaller than I thought it was going to be though.
- 24:58Really?
- 24:59Cause I thought it looked bigger than I thought.
- 25:01But in the pictures, I thought it was like the size of a Suburban, but in person
- 25:05it's more the size of like a Suburban.
- 25:07It's no, it's like a Volvo V90 on steroids kind of thing.
- 25:13Size wise to me.
- 25:14Yeah.
- 25:15It's big.
- 25:15Big.
- 25:16So you know how they say when you like look at a dog, they say you can kind of
- 25:19judge how big it's gonna be when it gets older based on its paws when it's a puppy.
- 25:23Mm-Hmm.
- 25:23. Well, the paws on a Celeste, two 80 fives on 23 inch wheels and they look small.
- 25:30So it's deceiving how large it is.
- 25:31I took pictures of it from different angles and it was in sort of
- 25:34a, I'll call it a tomato color.
- 25:36A lot of black accents and this and that.
- 25:39So compared to the pictures, the pictures make it look like a yacht.
- 25:42So I get your point that it looked smaller in person, but compared to some
- 25:46of the stuff that was parked around it, I was like, dude, this thing is huge.
- 25:50Yeah.
- 25:50I saw it just by itself on the road and there wasn't much close to it.
- 25:55So I didn't really get it.
- 25:56To see it parked next to a Miata or anything like that.
- 25:59It is unique looking.
- 26:00I mean, if, if I was you and I saw it going down the road, it would stick
- 26:03out like a sore thumb because it is just that back three quarter angle.
- 26:08I'm still not sold.
- 26:10The front looks like any other Cadillac in some ways.
- 26:12The Citroen back end.
- 26:13For sure.
- 26:14And that's what kind of sets it apart from everything else.
- 26:16You're like, what the hell am I looking at?
- 26:17Exactly.
- 26:18Maybe that tomato red isn't the right color for it, which I don't think it is.
- 26:22The only photographs we've seen are of that kind of electric blue.
- 26:25I think all black though, murdered out.
- 26:27Ooh, that could be interesting.
- 26:29Or like a dark gray or something like that.
- 26:31But yeah, I don't know.
- 26:33Good on Cadillac, you know, whatever, you know, that's the end of our showcase.
- 26:37And we should probably get back to our regular ranting
- 26:40and regularly scheduled raving.
- 26:41So before we do that, I want to ask you guys, have you noticed the shift?
- 26:46Especially in the TV commercials lately, like I've noticed over this
- 26:49month, Ford and Mercedes, I noted the Ford one and it wrote the quote
- 26:53down, your choice, gas, electric, or hybrid, something for everyone.
- 26:58And I'm like, what in the heck is going on?
- 27:01I mean, nobody's buying cars, which leads us into our first article talking
- 27:06about Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche news.
- 27:09I thought we were all EB and the ID buzz and the this and that we're going
- 27:13to get rid of the everything and no two liter turbos and they're saying the
- 27:18same thing everybody's saying they're sort of doubling down on EVs they're
- 27:21all going back just kidding we're going to keep making combustion engines.
- 27:26Called it, right?
- 27:28So it didn't Volvo, one of the ones leading the charge.
- 27:32Yes.
- 27:32We're going to be all EV by 2023.
- 27:35Not really, but like all you'd be by 2030 or something like that.
- 27:38They spun off pole star and now they're just, they're letting pole star die
- 27:42because they didn't, they don't want to.
- 27:44to hitch their horse to that wagon anymore.
- 27:46And then the same, I think Jaguar said the same thing.
- 27:49They were going to be all EB.
- 27:50I think the municipalities and then the authorities are pulling
- 27:54back on it, realizing, Oh, maybe this isn't the solution.
- 27:58Maybe we're being dumb, a little too aggressive.
- 28:00A lot of things happen in the U S politically too.
- 28:03I mean, Obama instituted all those EPA rules and carb rules and cars
- 28:06had to be, had to meet a certain.
- 28:08Mile per gallon threshold across the industry.
- 28:11And you see, they were all in on the EBS and then Trump rolled some of that back.
- 28:15And then Biden is kind of floundering a little bit.
- 28:17I think you're onto something.
- 28:18I think they were chasing the dollar in the beginning because it was a fad
- 28:23for lack of a better way to put it.
- 28:24Ooh, Evie, I'm going to save the world.
- 28:26And you know, I think a lot of people.
- 28:28finally kind of woke up and said, we're making it worse because of the
- 28:31rare earth metals that are necessary to put these batteries together.
- 28:34The way we have to harvest them, Elon's plan of getting the lithium from
- 28:38Mars and bringing it back to earth.
- 28:40Isn't really panning out, you know, all that kind of crazy stuff that we've heard
- 28:43in the neural net and everything else.
- 28:45I said it a long time ago, hybrid is the answer, despite the death
- 28:50of the manual transmission.
- 28:51Although there's some rumors out there, Toyota was working on that too, right?
- 28:54Where you could have a manual and a hybrid and all those kinds of things.
- 28:57There's like three big factors and correct me if I'm wrong, the price
- 29:00of EVs, which makes sales down, range anxiety, which keeps sales down.
- 29:05And then this last part, which is the environmental impact of the EVs.
- 29:10That keeps sales down.
- 29:12I would almost replace range anxiety with charging infrastructure, period.
- 29:18Yes.
- 29:18And that is definitely in that swim lane.
- 29:20So too much, too fast, too little, too late.
- 29:24First of all, what are we going to do with all these EVs?
- 29:26How long are they going to go?
- 29:28What's the recycling plan?
- 29:29I don't think we have a definitive answer on those, but if we
- 29:32roll back and go to hybrids.
- 29:34Okay.
- 29:35We're getting it right.
- 29:37Not that it really matters to us, the layman, but how much
- 29:39money has these companies actually lost on this investment?
- 29:43You say it doesn't matter to us because we're the layman, but it
- 29:45does matter to us because they're not going to operate at a loss for long.
- 29:48They're going to pass down those costs for those losses by increasing their
- 29:52prices on the cars that are selling.
- 29:54Yeah.
- 29:55So we're, we're going to end up paying for it eventually, or
- 29:57they're going to get a government bailout, which is our money anyway.
- 29:59So one way or another, we're going to pay for it.
- 30:02To your point, it seems like you say they're doubling down that it seems
- 30:06like it's just a rehashing of what happened in the late nineties, early
- 30:11two thousands with the gas crisis.
- 30:14I guess it was around the, the Iraq war and then everybody was making hybrids.
- 30:18There were hybrid everything's there was a hybrid Tahoe.
- 30:20Oh, that was a big seller.
- 30:22That was a piece of crap.
- 30:23And they made all these small cars because the gas was so expensive, but
- 30:26then gas prices started coming down.
- 30:28People stopped buying them because ultimately we want.
- 30:32What's the right answer then?
- 30:33Is it keep the gas prices high to force you to buy a hybrid now,
- 30:37but then again, the price of the vehicles are insane because as you
- 30:41know, being on the money side of the house, the price of things go up.
- 30:45They never really come back down unless we're clearancing and getting rid of
- 30:48something, or it's extremely cheaply made.
- 30:50The price of a new car now is 50, 000.
- 30:54Let's just say the average.
- 30:55Entry level, whatever Impala we're talking 50 grand.
- 30:59I mean, that's insane.
- 31:00Which is why a car loan is seven, eight years now because the income levels have
- 31:04not increased with the, at the same level that what a mess you can get cars for
- 31:08less than 50, 000, the caveat is, yeah.
- 31:11The car any of us would want is not going to be something that's less than 20, 000.
- 31:17You can get a car that's basic transportation, 23,
- 31:20000, 20, 000, whatever.
- 31:22And people are going to be fine with that.
- 31:24They do exist, right?
- 31:25There's Chevy's, there's Kia's, there's whatever's, but an enthusiast
- 31:29isn't going to want that car.
- 31:31And that means they're starting at at least high thirties into forties.
- 31:35Yeah.
- 31:35Whereas.
- 31:3610, 15, 20 years ago, you were starting at least in the
- 31:40twenties for a GTI or something.
- 31:43Yeah.
- 31:43To Tanya's point, we are the minority, like the, the enthusiast market.
- 31:47I mean, you see it with everything, you know, when it comes to cars, like the
- 31:50enthusiasts, we're the loudest ones.
- 31:52Yes.
- 31:52We need a manual coupe.
- 31:53We need a Toyota super to come back.
- 31:55We need the Nissan 350 Z to come back and we're going to buy it.
- 31:58You just make it and we'll buy it.
- 32:00And then they sit on dealer lots and then they don't sell any of them because the
- 32:03enthusiasts, we like to talk shit, but we all already have the cars that we want.
- 32:07So we're not buying a majority of people aren't buying those types of cars.
- 32:11I would agree with that to an extent but if they made the cars palatable and
- 32:16I continue to argue that the 400z Is in that category, especially with nissan
- 32:21basically having a fire sale on everything including the ultimas to get him off
- 32:25the lot That car is worth fifty thousand dollars all day You Is it a 90, 000 car?
- 32:31Like the Corvette suddenly became no, but at 50, 000, you can have a sports coupe, a
- 32:37grand tour, whatever you want to call it.
- 32:39It's good value for money, but nobody's looking at Nissan right now, but I'm
- 32:42going to put a pin in that because to your exact point, Brad and Tanya
- 32:46talking about the price of cars and what we want as enthusiasts, the GTI has a
- 32:51cult following, but more so than that.
- 32:54A lot of people buy GTIs.
- 32:56I don't even know if you can buy a base level Golf anymore.
- 33:00Here's a better example.
- 33:01Toyota Corolla hatchback.
- 33:03You can get one for 22 grand.
- 33:05That's not the one that you should want because the one you should want is
- 33:09starting in the high 30s for the same car.
- 33:12Granted for power blah blah blah, but it's the one you want.
- 33:15So you're probably by the time you're done looking at a 40, 000 Corolla.
- 33:20Let me blow your mind here for a second.
- 33:22So according to British sources, the GTI Mark Eight and a half because the mark
- 33:28nine isn't here yet and we're doing these half things now Seven and a half and
- 33:31eight and a half and whatever so the mark eight and a half is coming Would you all
- 33:34venture a guess let's play what should I buy for a second little price is right?
- 33:37How much is the new gti going to cost?
- 33:40Uh, so it's dsg because they don't make manual anymore.
- 33:44It's four doors four doors only front wheel drive And it still
- 33:48doesn't make 300 horsepower.
- 33:49But see, the Golf R is 40 plus.
- 33:51So I would say the base GTI is probably 32, 33.
- 33:56According to British sources, 40, 000 British pounds sterling.
- 34:00Do you want to know how much that translates to in U.
- 34:02S.
- 34:02dollars?
- 34:02More than that.
- 34:0345 or something like that.
- 34:04At 27 percent uplift, we're at 50, 800 U.
- 34:10S.
- 34:10dollars for base GTI.
- 34:13And there's a moment of silence there and I'm looking at Brad's face because
- 34:16now he's running the numbers, you know, can you imagine 50 grand for a GTI
- 34:22in 2001 granted, you know, I'm going to date myself here and it's just,
- 34:26this is just the way inflation works.
- 34:27But in 2001, I bought a brand new 2001 Volkswagen GTI 1.
- 34:3380.
- 34:33I splurged a little.
- 34:34It had cloth interior, but I got the manual and I got this 17 inch wheels
- 34:39that nobody had seen before because they weren't available in the car yet.
- 34:42It's a 17 inch wheels and the monsoon sound system.
- 34:45And that car was 20, 000 on the road.
- 34:48Tax tags, title, everything.
- 34:50We're 23 years into the future now.
- 34:52What is 20, 000 today's dollars?
- 34:55We got to go back from that.
- 34:56So 40, 000.
- 34:58You said 50, we'll call it $50,000 in US dollars, which I do not
- 35:01believe that I'm flabbergasted.
- 35:03$50,000 in US dollars.
- 35:04What does that equate to in 2001, you're basically buying a
- 35:08Mercedes S class, I would think.
- 35:09Alright, so the inflation calculator online says $20,000 in the year
- 35:152000 in today's dollars 2024.
- 35:1936, 477.
- 35:2025.
- 35:21That makes sense.
- 35:23But 50, 000.
- 35:25Well, I think the British people have their numbers wrong.
- 35:28I think they're wrong.
- 35:2940, 000 for a base GTI?
- 35:32That's really bad.
- 35:33Right now on Volkswagen's website, a Golf GTI.
- 35:36Build your Golf GTI.
- 35:37Starting MSRP, 31, 965.
- 35:41Starting!
- 35:41241 horsepower, 273 foot pounds of torque, Speed manual or
- 35:47a seven speed automatic dsg.
- 35:49So you're saying there's gonna be a nine thousand dollar price jump
- 35:53from the current car to the new car.
- 35:56That's fucking absurd.
- 35:57There's no way.
- 35:58Do not believe.
- 35:59Does not compute.
- 36:00And now I've gone down a rabbit hole to build my gti.
- 36:02What are these trims?
- 36:04There's the s.
- 36:05That's the starting one at 31.
- 36:08965.
- 36:08There's the 380s.
- 36:10Then there's the SE.
- 36:11Then there's the 380 SE.
- 36:13There's the Autobahn and the 380 Autobahn trim.
- 36:17What happened to the trim levels?
- 36:21That's like Audi with the prestige and the premier and the blah, blah, blah.
- 36:25What the hell is 380 380?
- 36:28Not 380 horsepower, that's for sure.
- 36:30Because that would have been cool if it was.
- 36:32Yeah, no kidding.
- 36:32So click on that last one, because I'm sure the last one
- 36:35is the most expensive one.
- 36:36What does that jump you to?
- 36:37So the 380 Autobahn is 40, 000.
- 36:40Boom, we're already there.
- 36:41It's only 300 more than the regular Audubon.
- 36:46What do you use the comparison on the site for the models?
- 36:50So you get a black painted roof and side mirror caps on the 380
- 36:54both with nine inch alloy wheels.
- 36:56You've got the 12 way adjustable seat, climatronic, vented seats,
- 37:00heated first and second row light assist high beam heads up.
- 37:02So the only difference there.
- 37:04So you're paying the extra 300 plus for the black painted
- 37:07roof and side mirror cap.
- 37:08That's the 380.
- 37:11This package is 380 more.
- 37:15You're right.
- 37:15Yeah.
- 37:17Oh, shit.
- 37:17Sorry.
- 37:18I'm getting my mind blown here.
- 37:21It only has 240 horsepower.
- 37:23Yeah.
- 37:24You said that before.
- 37:25No, but this is the three 80 Autobahn.
- 37:27Yes.
- 37:28It's still only has that much.
- 37:31What?
- 37:32But then a thousand dollars in a chip and a tune, and you're looking at 375
- 37:36foot pounds and almost 300 horsepower.
- 37:39Yeah.
- 37:39But 20 years ago, you could guess.
- 37:42I have one.
- 37:43I have a 250 horsepower GTI, which also weighs a ton too, with all the driving
- 37:49or anything, but that's not the point.
- 37:49It's not that much.
- 37:513, 500 pounds.
- 37:52That's a lot.
- 37:52It weighs 3, 100 pounds.
- 37:55Lies.
- 37:56Curb weight.
- 37:57Lies.
- 37:58Lies.
- 37:59That's dry weight.
- 37:59Then you add fuel and you add oil.
- 38:013, 100 pounds.
- 38:02There's no way unless they're making them out of tin foil that
- 38:05that thing weighs 3, 100 pounds.
- 38:07The Mark fours weighed 3, 000 pounds.
- 38:10They must be getting body panels from Honda.
- 38:11Gotta be like they're acid dipped and that's just it.
- 38:14And it weighs.
- 38:154, 500 pounds now, and it's as slow as your 2001 1.
- 38:188 turbo.
- 38:20Whatever.
- 38:20So then that begs the question to roll into the next article.
- 38:24How much is the GTI club sport cost?
- 38:26So they debuted that at the 24 hours of the Nürburgring, because
- 38:29again, nothing happens in June.
- 38:31You know, outside of the funky paint job that they have or wrap or whatever it
- 38:35is at the Nürburgring, here we go again.
- 38:38Okay.
- 38:38It's a Golf R.
- 38:40It makes 315 horsepower.
- 38:44So what?
- 38:44So does the current golf art?
- 38:45Like who cares?
- 38:46Like what's so special about the club sport other than the funky paint job?
- 38:49Like, I don't, I don't understand what's so important about it.
- 38:52Well, the previous club sport, the mark seven club sport.
- 38:55I don't think it had back seats.
- 38:56It had a roll bar and scaffolding in the back.
- 39:00It was front wheel drive only.
- 39:02I don't think the rear doors opened.
- 39:04It was designed to take racing kind of like the Hondas that we
- 39:08saw when we went to that SRO race.
- 39:10I think it was kind of in that vein, although you can only get it in Europe.
- 39:13To add another 10, 000 of insult to injury on top of, let's say what
- 39:18we've already been talking about, I wouldn't buy this, like, I don't care.
- 39:21I'll go buy a used.
- 39:22Golf R and put a chip on it and I'll have the same thing.
- 39:25If not better.
- 39:26See, this is the age old question.
- 39:27Do you buy something built from the factory already?
- 39:30Or do you buy the base model and put the money into it yourself?
- 39:34I mean, Jeep people and Camaro and Mustang guys talk about this all the time.
- 39:37Do I buy a ZL one or do I buy the base model?
- 39:41SS and put all the money into it to make it, you know, what I want,
- 39:44do I buy the Rubicon or do I buy the sport Wrangler, put the wheels,
- 39:49lockers and all that shit on it?
- 39:50I guess it all just depends on how mechanically inclined you are, if
- 39:55you know a good mechanic or if you feel like you could do it better
- 39:59than the factory and a lot of times.
- 40:01I'd rather just have it from the factory to that point because the
- 40:04scene, you know, air quotes around that the scene has changed in the last
- 40:08five years, especially where the EPA started to crack down on the tuners.
- 40:12It's getting harder and harder to get, let's say, the Volkswagen's and
- 40:15some of the Japanese cars chipped.
- 40:17You know, Volkswagen always had an open ECU, non encrypted, you know,
- 40:21there were plenty of tuners out there, APR, and, and you could suddenly, you
- 40:25know, turn up the wick on these things.
- 40:26And Volkswagen proper didn't really seem to care.
- 40:29They almost invited it from the third party from the aftermarket world.
- 40:32But, you know, the government's gotten in the way of doing that because
- 40:35obviously there's ways to defeat, you know, emission systems and a lot of
- 40:38other things by doing that kind of stuff to get more power out of these motors.
- 40:42It's been.
- 40:43I think it goes back to your point, Brad, where it's like, it's cheaper to
- 40:46buy it from the factory and you've got a warranty, you know, you're within the EPA
- 40:51specifications and all that kind of stuff.
- 40:52But I never thought I'd see the day.
- 40:54I read this headline like 10 times.
- 40:56The 9 11.
- 40:58It's gonna be a hybrid.
- 40:59Mean it's better than hearing all electric, but let that
- 41:02soak in like the nine 11.
- 41:04All the purists right now are probably keeled over vomiting
- 41:07into their shoes going.
- 41:08The nine 11 is never supposed to be.
- 41:13It's like, I don't know how I feel about it.
- 41:15But see, not all hybrids are created equal.
- 41:19There are hybrids they're designed to have the much smaller gas motor and rely
- 41:23on the battery power for fuel efficiency.
- 41:25But then there are the hybrids like the McLaren P1 and then the Ferrari LaFerrari.
- 41:31Or even the C8 Corvette.
- 41:33Yeah, the stingray is the e ray.
- 41:35Yeah.
- 41:35Those are hybrids of a different, they're not replacing the gas.
- 41:40They're complimenting, augmenting, supplementing with electric to
- 41:44get, squeeze out more performance.
- 41:46I don't have a problem with this.
- 41:48Well, I do, because I think there's a point of diminishing returns.
- 41:51You're trying to squeeze out all this performance by adding more weight.
- 41:55Because the batteries are not light, the hybrid system is
- 41:58not small, and it is not light.
- 42:00The 911, I remember when finally adopted all wheel drive into the 911s, it's
- 42:05like, okay, now we've added all that.
- 42:07Just get more performance out of the 911.
- 42:09The Porsches, especially the 911s, were kind of the Lotus principle.
- 42:13It's like, add lightness first.
- 42:15And now they've become heavier, they've become bigger.
- 42:17Are they trying to make the ultimate performance machine by going hybrid,
- 42:21or are they just trying to offer People in alternative fuel source.
- 42:25If this is like I read it and it's similar to the Corvette E Ray,
- 42:29it's 100 percent for performance.
- 42:31It's not for fuel economy.
- 42:32Yeah, it's, it's for performance.
- 42:34But you already have all wheel drive available in like the
- 42:37Turbo S and all those things.
- 42:38What's the hybrid really giving you other than electric all wheel drive?
- 42:42So you can maybe eliminate some of the drivetrain, but then you've got
- 42:45this funky Rear wheel drive bias, nine 11 with an electric upfront.
- 42:51I mean, it's, I don't know, to me because of the nine 11s configuration,
- 42:55any other car, you could kind of make it work, but the nine 11s, the nine
- 42:5811 to me, I don't know, it's just something's not right about this equation.
- 43:02It adds about 187 pounds.
- 43:05That's a lot to your point.
- 43:07What's the point of the hybrid Corvette?
- 43:09So the Corvette makes sense because.
- 43:12Mid engine all wheel drive is a very difficult thing to achieve.
- 43:17So if you look at how complicated a Lamborghini all wheel drive system is,
- 43:21you know, where the motor's sort of sitting on top of the transfer case
- 43:24and, you know, the shaft goes through the oil pan and all this kind of crazy
- 43:28stuff like they had in the old days.
- 43:29With the C8 being mid engine, adding the hybrid to the front wheels to give
- 43:34them four wheel drive makes sense.
- 43:36But the 911, basically being a backwards longitudinal front wheel
- 43:40drive with, you know, six reverse gears, it doesn't add anything.
- 43:44They already had all wheel drive available.
- 43:46They already designed the chassis to accept it.
- 43:48And to your point, it's heavier than the previous 911.
- 43:53So to me, it just doesn't add up.
- 43:54It almost feels like a gimmick.
- 43:56To say, well, we've got a hybrid two and then I love it because Corvette did
- 44:00it or because Ferrari did or whoever did it, but I don't think it works.
- 44:04I mean, it's no different than adding a turbo or it's just a
- 44:07different kind of power adder.
- 44:09They've done their market research.
- 44:11Somebody out there wants to buy one, so they're going to make one.
- 44:15They're just trying to make something for everybody.
- 44:16Talking about making something for everybody and staying on
- 44:19this theme of backpedaling.
- 44:20We need to talk about Stellantis.
- 44:23Just when you thought the Fiat 500 was dead, it's back with a gas engine.
- 44:28I don't really care.
- 44:29They kind of gave it the 500e look in the front and everything, and
- 44:33the wheels, and granted the shape of the 500 hasn't changed much.
- 44:36They updated the interior a little bit.
- 44:38I think it's cute, but I'm glad it's going back to gas.
- 44:40So when's the Abarth version coming?
- 44:42The Abarth will be a performance hybrid.
- 44:44See, see, see, that works.
- 44:46That makes sense.
- 44:47It'll still only make like 150 horsepower, though.
- 44:51Meanwhile, in Stellantis land, Brad, explain this to me.
- 44:55Everybody's going gaga over the Wagoneer S.
- 44:58Isn't this just the Grand Cherokee?
- 45:00Let's take a look.
- 45:02No, it's very reminiscent of the previous generation Durango to me.
- 45:05Which was a Grand Cherokee.
- 45:07Yeah, but this is still based on the Wagoneer flat.
- 45:12Okay, so what?
- 45:12What?
- 45:13I see it now.
- 45:14Okay, yeah, I see what you're saying.
- 45:15Now they're competing against themselves.
- 45:17Like, are they trying to make Wagoneer its own brand?
- 45:20This is a real revolutionary tactic they're doing here that Range
- 45:25Rover did about 15 years ago.
- 45:27Uh huh.
- 45:27They're giving it the Wagoneer name.
- 45:30Like Land Rover gave the Range Rover the Range Rover name, but it was the
- 45:34sport model built on the LR3 chassis.
- 45:37Ah, so this looks like the Wagoner Sport built on the, I
- 45:43guess the Grand Cherokee chassis.
- 45:46That's my theory.
- 45:47It's also an ev, well, there's the Grand Cherokee four XE as well.
- 45:51So that's no different.
- 45:52It's badge engineering.
- 45:54It's no different than ES line or.
- 45:57M sport or F sport or AMG sports AMG like somebody wants a Wagoneer,
- 46:04they can't afford a Wagoneer.
- 46:06So they buy a grand Cherokee with a Wagoneer badge, but it's got a Wang.
- 46:10Do you see that Wang?
- 46:11I see it.
- 46:12What do you think?
- 46:13Because if it didn't have the Wang, it would look like a Celestique.
- 46:18Yeah, that back end is wrong.
- 46:20It would have this, it would have the same angle as a Celestique.
- 46:24No, that wing is goofy though.
- 46:26They call it the R Wing.
- 46:27Okay, like it's Star Wars or something?
- 46:29Good job, Stellantis.
- 46:31Well, staying on the French theme, and since you brought up the Celestique again,
- 46:34and we're still talking about Stellantis, you can't say it any other way now.
- 46:38It's kind of like Integra, right?
- 46:39It's Stellantis.
- 46:41So, Citroën, my favorite French car company, part of the Styliantis group,
- 46:46is dropping its small cars and large cars to focus on profits, and that's
- 46:52in quotes, to focus on, so I said to myself, what in the hell does that mean?
- 46:56You got no cars equals no profit in my book, what the hell are they selling?
- 47:01They're going the way of Mitsubishi.
- 47:03So terrible, small, crossover SUVs then.
- 47:07I love this quote.
- 47:07The C5X won't be replaced because its segment is deemed non existent.
- 47:12We're making a cars for a segment that does not exist.
- 47:15Oh, this sounds like brilliance.
- 47:17I mean, at this point, just kill Citroen or rebadge something else.
- 47:21But this is pathetic.
- 47:22I mean, what is the point?
- 47:24But you know, hey, great job there guys.
- 47:26Excellent work.
- 47:27Keep it up.
- 47:28But you know, the DS is going to come back too.
- 47:30Just makes my skin crawl thinking about it.
- 47:34All right.
- 47:34Well, moving on with other domestic vehicles, Ford and
- 47:38Chevy have differing opinions.
- 47:40So we know what Ford says.
- 47:41What does Chevy say?
- 47:42The quote reads, Ford sees hybrids as a long term play, but rival General
- 47:47Motors says they're not the end game.
- 47:50Okay.
- 47:50So what is?
- 47:51Diesel Chevy's bringing us back to the tornado.
- 47:56We're going right back to like 1978.
- 47:59I mean, Chevy brought about the entire trucking industry and put the locomotive
- 48:04industry almost out of business, you know, with their deals and their
- 48:07trucks and everything like that.
- 48:08So they're doubling down on the diesels.
- 48:11We're going to get an Impala diesel and we'll call it the Toronado.
- 48:16I remember last year we did a whole GM showcase where we're like, what
- 48:20the hell are these guys doing?
- 48:21They're so far behind the curve.
- 48:23And now they're not even in agreement.
- 48:25Not that they're ever in agreement with Ford, right?
- 48:27They're always sort of at odds.
- 48:28But in this case, it's like, guys, you don't have very many options.
- 48:31If I read between the lines.
- 48:33Ford, and we saw their commercials this month, you know, there's a choice for
- 48:37everyone, gas, electric, or hybrid.
- 48:39Mercedes is doing the same thing.
- 48:40You've seen it with the black SUV, the white SUV, and the gray one, you know,
- 48:44pick your poison and all this stuff.
- 48:45But GM is basically saying, you know what guys, we're going to stick with
- 48:49the push rod V8 till the end of time.
- 48:52And that's that screw hybrids.
- 48:54And the bolt is playing the hokey pokey, as we know, one minute
- 48:57it's gone, it's on the death list and it's being resuscitated.
- 49:01And I mean, I just don't get it.
- 49:02Honestly, I know competition is good, but I really think the big three need
- 49:08to get their act together and figure out what the direction is going forward
- 49:13and start to lead rather than try to constantly catch up with everybody else.
- 49:17Which is a better run company, Tesla or General Motors?
- 49:23I think Tanya needs to answer that one.
- 49:25General Motors.
- 49:26General Motors is a better run company.
- 49:28They don't have an asshole, narcissistic, egomaniac.
- 49:31So if you remove Elon Musk, which is a better run company, I don't
- 49:39know what's their car sales.
- 49:40Well, apparently they sold 16, 425 EVs, which is down 20 percent because
- 49:45apparently the Bolt EV that they phased out made up 20 percent of their EV sales.
- 49:51That's a big hit.
- 49:52Well, there might be an answer for you.
- 49:54I feel like General Motors is doing what General Motors does.
- 49:57We've got this great new product.
- 50:00It's called the internal combustion engines.
- 50:08They're doubling down and they're going all in on hydrogen.
- 50:11I don't see that happening at General Motors either.
- 50:14Like I really think General Motors.
- 50:16Is taking the same approach I take at work sometimes if I stand still
- 50:21figuratively long enough while management is running around with their hair
- 50:26on fire, it'll all come full circle.
- 50:28And I don't have to do much.
- 50:30Right?
- 50:30And I think GM is doing the same thing.
- 50:32Literally waiting for the merry go round of Evie to stop.
- 50:36And then they're going to be like.
- 50:38Well, you fools got rid of your internal combustion engines.
- 50:42We've got the market corner.
- 50:43Well, there is a strategy that is last man standing.
- 50:47So their strategy could be the last person with the internal combustion engine.
- 50:52Who's their CEO?
- 50:53Barra.
- 50:54Mary Barra, maybe she's a genius and she's like, these fucking idiots in
- 50:58Congress can't figure this shit out.
- 51:00We're not going to do a goddamn thing.
- 51:02And when the dust settles, we're going to be right on top or
- 51:06General Motors is quiet quitting.
- 51:07You know, you heard about that phenomenon.
- 51:10They're quiet quitting.
- 51:11There's bowing out.
- 51:13There's like, you know what?
- 51:14There's another term too.
- 51:15What was it?
- 51:16It's something.
- 51:16Retirement retired in place.
- 51:18I don't remember.
- 51:19No, there's a new term I just heard the other day, something like with retirement.
- 51:23General Motors is the equivalent of the employee that sits at their computer
- 51:27and moves their mouse every 10 minutes.
- 51:29So it looks like they're active, but they're not
- 51:31actually doing a fucking thing.
- 51:34I think that's why Matt always used to call them general morons.
- 51:38You know, it's a gross generalization for General Motors, but it is very
- 51:42strange what's going on over there.
- 51:45That's for Because what's going on is nothing.
- 51:47The lights aren't on, but let's all run out and get an Impala, shall we?
- 51:51Speaking about running out and buying new cars, which is not at
- 51:54the front of everybody's list.
- 51:56Last time we got together, we talked about the Maverick and how
- 52:00there's just none available and people want to test drive them.
- 52:03So you can go down to your local U Haul for 20 bucks and try one out.
- 52:07Now they're saying the Maverick is going to be coming with
- 52:10all wheel drive and a hybrid.
- 52:11So, let's head on down to U Haul and test one out!
- 52:14You know what?
- 52:15I like the Maverick.
- 52:16I would never own one, because it's not, I'm not the market.
- 52:19But for companies like Napa, and like these small delivery people that,
- 52:23they don't need a full size truck.
- 52:24Get a Maverick and just put around town dropping off parts and doing
- 52:27your little deliveries and shit.
- 52:29I think it's perfect for that.
- 52:30I think civilian Mavericks are silly.
- 52:32The Ford Transit was perfect for that.
- 52:34I don't know about the Maverick.
- 52:35Well true, because you could get a 10 foot tall Transit.
- 52:39Well, you can also do your deliveries in the rain and not
- 52:42have all your stuff get wet.
- 52:43That's true.
- 52:44That's true.
- 52:44I stand corrected.
- 52:45The Maverick is perfect for everybody that made a mistake buying the Ranger
- 52:51and the folks that don't want the new F 150, which is the size of the Cybertruck.
- 52:55But still need to move mulch.
- 52:57Right, exactly.
- 52:58I think the Maverick is a good size because it's the size
- 53:01of what the F 150 used to be.
- 53:04It's a reasonably sized truck.
- 53:05I think it's easier to maneuver, especially in the city.
- 53:08If you want to drive a truck, it's easier to park.
- 53:10Yes, it's got a shorter bed, but it's four door.
- 53:12It sort of checks all the boxes.
- 53:14The problem is they can't keep up with demand for the Maverick and hence
- 53:18going down to U Haul to test drive one.
- 53:20I like it.
- 53:21I like the way it looks.
- 53:22Like if I needed a truck and I didn't need to tow, see, that's always the thing.
- 53:26They're not going to give the Maverick enough chutzpah to do
- 53:30what we really want it to do.
- 53:32Well, that's not what it's for, but the old F 150 of that size you
- 53:37could tow with because it had a V8 or it had this or it had that.
- 53:40I don't think the Maverick is body on frame either.
- 53:42I think it's a unibody, which contributes to that as well.
- 53:46Yeah.
- 53:46So it's not designed for that type of work.
- 53:50But still better than the Ranger though.
- 53:52I mean, if you gave me a choice between the two, I'd pick
- 53:54the Maverick all day long.
- 53:55I just think it's better looking than the Ranger.
- 53:57And the Ranger, unfortunately, it suffered from legacy problems where
- 54:01the old Ranger was a four cylinder.
- 54:03So they said, you know what, we're going to put the focus slash Mustang
- 54:06motor in the Ranger and then, you know, D cam it and all that other stuff.
- 54:09And it's like, dude, that's pathetic.
- 54:10The thing is heavy.
- 54:11It's big.
- 54:12And it can't get out of its own way.
- 54:13I went and tester of one when they debuted, I went with Tanya to a
- 54:17thing in Texas where they had them and they had like a little test of
- 54:19it and course and go off road with them and all this kind of stuff.
- 54:22And I was like, yeah, it's great.
- 54:24It's wonderful.
- 54:24It drives awesome.
- 54:25Except for the fact that it's a four cylinder turbo.
- 54:28And I'm like, no, thanks.
- 54:29Good job, Ford.
- 54:30Still better than Chevy.
- 54:31I mean, they're competing with themselves.
- 54:33A hundred percent.
- 54:33I don't know why.
- 54:34Not something I would buy, but good on them.
- 54:36Well, this next one, as we move into Japanese domestic news,
- 54:40is anybody surprised by this?
- 54:42You said it earlier about how we were begging for cars like the Supra.
- 54:45Well, guess what?
- 54:46By 2026, The Supra will be gone.
- 54:48Is anybody surprised?
- 54:50Do you see any?
- 54:51No!
- 54:51I see one every once in a while.
- 54:53I'm a little sad.
- 54:55But again, I'm not in the place in my life where I could buy one.
- 54:58Also, I'm not in the size of my life where I could fit in one.
- 55:01So it's just, it's a car that was cool to build and I'm glad that they built it.
- 55:05But it's not something I would ever be able to own.
- 55:07And I agree with some of the comments about the Supra.
- 55:10Because I said it from day one and I still call it the Zupra because as we
- 55:15know as enthusiasts, it's a BMW underneath and I hear all the justification about
- 55:19how Toyota retooled the engine and it's not actually the stock BMW straight six
- 55:25and it's not this and it's not that and the Toyota had its hands all over the
- 55:28car blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
- 55:30Okay, great.
- 55:31But you know what?
- 55:32I think Toyota missed the mark.
- 55:34It's not a Supra.
- 55:36It's not a 2JZ.
- 55:37It doesn't have any relationship with the fourth gen car.
- 55:41Toyota could have made this.
- 55:42They could have borrowed from Lexus and said, we're going to build a Supra
- 55:47and we're not going to build a tank.
- 55:48That they have over at Lexus, but they could have built something awesome.
- 55:51They could have built something with a Lexus V8 and it could have been a
- 55:54monster and people would have gone.
- 55:56Hell yeah.
- 55:57And okay.
- 55:58Put the gazoo racing badge on it and maybe it costs a little bit more, but it could
- 56:01have been a hundred percent pure Toyota.
- 56:03When I look at this, it doesn't even look.
- 56:06Japanese.
- 56:07It looks German.
- 56:09How much more can it cost in 46, 000?
- 56:12That's pretty cheap.
- 56:13The Lexi are, what, 70, 000, 80, 000?
- 56:16I mean, they could have gone up a little bit.
- 56:17It could have been a 55, 000, 60, 000 car.
- 56:20It needed to have the Lexus badge then at that price.
- 56:23I feel like this should have been like the RC F.
- 56:27Yeah, they should have rebadged the RCF, changed the looks a little
- 56:30bit, and it made it a grand tour because the original Supra was big.
- 56:34It wasn't a sports car.
- 56:35It was, it was bigger.
- 56:36It was more of like a grand tour.
- 56:38That's what this car should have been.
- 56:40But because they built it in conjunction with BMW, who doesn't
- 56:43really make those types of cars or just not at that price point.
- 56:46Well, if BMW had done it that way, they would have built it upon the six series.
- 56:50That's exactly what I'm saying, which would have cost significantly more money.
- 56:54You could have just put the three cylinder in it.
- 56:56300 horsepower out of the Corolla or the Yaris.
- 56:58And not have it cost 70, 000.
- 57:00There is supposedly a four cylinder turbo version of the Supra.
- 57:03I've never seen one.
- 57:04I don't know anybody that bought one because apparently you could get a
- 57:07manual Supra with a four cylinder turbo.
- 57:10The 2024 comes either as a two liter four cylinder or three liter six cylinder.
- 57:14Both BMW powerplants because BMW makes a two liter turbo in the 320.
- 57:19Or whatever it is, that makes sense.
- 57:20But I think there's too much German DNA in the Supra right now.
- 57:25And I'm not sad to see it go.
- 57:27Granted I've coached one and I thought it was fabulous, but I
- 57:30got out of it and I was like, it's still a BMW despite the body panels.
- 57:34And with everything, to Tanya's point, that's going on at Toyota right now, this
- 57:38seems like they just missed the mark.
- 57:40They could have designed this car themselves.
- 57:42Take the BRZ and put a real motor in it.
- 57:45Instead of that thing that's in there that's underpowered
- 57:48for the size of the car.
- 57:49Because the BRZ is just basically a slightly smaller version of this.
- 57:54I rest my case.
- 57:55Well, Tanya, I guess it's time we switch gears and talk about EVs and concept cars.
- 58:00This time we seem to be loaded up with some French stuff.
- 58:03I think that's a coincidence since we've been talking about Le Mans.
- 58:08So what's on the docket here?
- 58:09Renault is coming out with some interesting EVs with an interesting
- 58:15partner for an interesting price.
- 58:17They're bringing back the Twingo.
- 58:20Yes.
- 58:21Yes.
- 58:22For under 20, 000 euros with the Chinese partner.
- 58:26Because VW backed out of the project.
- 58:28I like it.
- 58:29I like the original Twingo.
- 58:30It's so cute.
- 58:32This weird.
- 58:33Percentage gauge on the outside of the hood is interesting.
- 58:37I have a feeling this might be AI generated because it's like
- 58:40little weird things like that that just don't make sense But it says
- 58:45ev concept whatever that means.
- 58:46Yeah, I like it.
- 58:48It's got the happy little just accents and flavors and design language of the Twingo.
- 58:54I don't know if this is Renault's rendering or if somebody generated it on,
- 58:58you know, ChatGPT or something like that.
- 59:00But at the end of the day, I would enjoy seeing this on the road.
- 59:04I mean, again, I'm weird and I like the original Twingo.
- 59:07So this is cool to see something like this come in black.
- 59:10That's cool.
- 59:10But would you want that?
- 59:12Or would you rather have?
- 59:13Oh, yeah.
- 59:14An Alpine, A two 90 gt.
- 59:17Well, I mean, there's no question I want the Alpine A two 90.
- 59:19I want anything that says Alpine on the bonnet.
- 59:22This thing is the R five turbo reimagined and it is just fire.
- 59:28This thing is awesome and we're never gonna get one, unfortunately.
- 59:31Oh, of course not.
- 59:31I mean, we're never gonna get anything Rene over here.
- 59:34So they'll have to keep their single 217 horsepower electric motor.
- 59:386.4 second zero to six two.
- 59:40Time a battery that lasts 203 6 miles.
- 59:43This is square body heaven right here, man.
- 59:45This is so cool.
- 59:47Sorry, I like little French hatchbacks.
- 59:49I think this is awesome.
- 59:50I've said it before, but it reminds me a lot of the Abarth.
- 59:54So just get an Abarth.
- 59:55Yes, you could buy a Fiat and have something similar.
- 59:58But if you're going for that R5 turbo look, this is it, man.
- 1:00:03I mean, yeah, it's pretty awesome.
- 1:00:05Now, granted, the hips are not nearly as wide as an original R5, but it has
- 1:00:10all the design language of the old car.
- 1:00:12And I think this is.
- 1:00:13Absolutely fantastic.
- 1:00:14And I think they also did a good job of sort of picking up on the Renault
- 1:00:18Williams Clio that came out after the R5.
- 1:00:21And so it has a little bit of that in it when I look at it, because
- 1:00:24again, it's slightly narrower and a little bit more upright.
- 1:00:27I mean, if you're a fan of those groupie homologation cars, And you're
- 1:00:31lucky enough to live in Europe.
- 1:00:33I would get one of these.
- 1:00:34I mean, granted I want an A one 10 GT as well.
- 1:00:37I would drive one of those every day.
- 1:00:39That's the throwback to the seventies.
- 1:00:41Alpine one 10 kinda looks like an out ETT.
- 1:00:44I think everything that Alpine is putting on the road or Alpine is putting on the
- 1:00:47road right now is really pretty cool.
- 1:00:50So for those of you in Europe, you're very fortunate.
- 1:00:52So, uh, enjoy just for my.
- 1:00:54Education.
- 1:00:55What is Alpine?
- 1:00:57Is it a standalone company?
- 1:00:58Is it a branch of Renault?
- 1:01:00Like what, what exactly is it Alpine?
- 1:01:03You have to think about it sort of like roof or any of those type of tuners.
- 1:01:07Okay.
- 1:01:07So they're now part of Renault.
- 1:01:10And so basically Renault has said, we're going to spin up our
- 1:01:13separate line of cars as Alpine.
- 1:01:15And then they'll go from there kind motorsport heritage.
- 1:01:19They were their own company.
- 1:01:20Our company back in the day, like they were their own mark.
- 1:01:23Yeah.
- 1:01:23Yeah.
- 1:01:24If you go back to the early, early, early times, but they were using
- 1:01:27Renault power plants and stuff.
- 1:01:29And then they became like a tuner after that.
- 1:01:31Right.
- 1:01:31And then it became like, it's like GR.
- 1:01:34Exactly.
- 1:01:35All good stuff though.
- 1:01:36I'll take it all day long.
- 1:01:37You know, we've been talking about buying new cars, Brad, if you had to buy a new
- 1:01:41car today, what color would you pick?
- 1:01:43Well, it depends on the car, but red really does depend on the
- 1:01:46body shape of a car because there are some cars like Mercedes that
- 1:01:50are atrocious when they're red.
- 1:01:54The majority of Mercedes look so bad in the color red.
- 1:01:58It would depend on the car.
- 1:01:59I would like something metallic ish.
- 1:02:04I know that it's boring, but like a pewter, not like a silver or
- 1:02:09something like that, but like a rich pewter that even changes color.
- 1:02:13light to dark in the, in the color, or I like the color I have, which
- 1:02:18is like this weird blue that changes between blue and gray, depending
- 1:02:22on the lighting conditions.
- 1:02:23Well, would you guys be surprised to know that all the colors you
- 1:02:26mentioned are basically on the way out?
- 1:02:29Yep.
- 1:02:29How do you replace gray?
- 1:02:31Well, according to a new study in vehicle color market share, Grayscale colors are
- 1:02:37in white, black, gray, and silver, but silver has seen a 52 percent reduction
- 1:02:44in cars being painted in silver over the last 20 years, from 2004 to 2023.
- 1:02:49So they're down to 9 percent of the cars on the road are silver anymore.
- 1:02:54Red is 7%.
- 1:02:56And then you got some bottom of the barrel colors after that green, orange, beige,
- 1:02:59brown, yellow, gold, all less than 1%.
- 1:03:04The majority of the cars on the road are white followed by black.
- 1:03:09There's not a huge color palette anymore.
- 1:03:12And I remember, especially, you know, in the old days where you were like excited
- 1:03:16to see what the new colors of the cars were going to be and what's Volkswagen
- 1:03:19coming out with and what colors are they carrying over and Porsche with
- 1:03:22all their M and M colors and Chrysler the same way with the Barracudas and
- 1:03:27the challengers and stuff like that.
- 1:03:28But nowadays it's like, wah, wah.
- 1:03:30I mean, for how many years was it, would you like your Accord in gold?
- 1:03:34Gold.
- 1:03:35Gold.
- 1:03:36Or gold.
- 1:03:36I would like to see this broken down further to color.
- 1:03:42By model because majority of the cars being sold, I would argue 80 percent of
- 1:03:47the cars being sold are going to be cars that only look good in gray scale, like
- 1:03:52your Camrys and your Corollas and your shit, Paula's and your Nissan Sentra
- 1:03:58or whatever, and things like that.
- 1:04:01But if you drill down further by model, I guarantee you 80 percent
- 1:04:05of Mustangs are not gray scale.
- 1:04:07Right.
- 1:04:0780 percent of Challengers are not grayscale.
- 1:04:1180 percent of Camaros, Corvettes, 911s.
- 1:04:14Majority of Ferraris are going to be red, right?
- 1:04:17I mean, that's sort of a given.
- 1:04:19The lower volume cars aren't grayscale.
- 1:04:21I think the numbers are skewed.
- 1:04:23Because of the models like that are being purchased.
- 1:04:26And I agree, especially with white, how many commercial
- 1:04:29vehicles are included in this?
- 1:04:31How many fleet vehicles?
- 1:04:32Yeah.
- 1:04:33Yeah.
- 1:04:33All the Ram vans that are sitting on the mall parking lot here where we live,
- 1:04:37there must be 200 of them right now.
- 1:04:39And they're all white.
- 1:04:40A lot of that, especially for like construction trucks and like blue collar
- 1:04:43vehicles, they'll get their wrap put on whatever color their marketing colors are.
- 1:04:48They'd start with a base, whatever the cheapest thing the dealer has on the
- 1:04:51lot, It's probably white if they're selling 80 percent of them, you know,
- 1:04:55they just slap on whatever, whatever their marketing colors are, you know,
- 1:04:58in their wrap because it's cheaper and then just go from there because then
- 1:05:02they can take that shit off and sell the vehicle when it's met its useful life.
- 1:05:06But I want to see these numbers based on model.
- 1:05:08Oh, but they do.
- 1:05:09They break it down.
- 1:05:10If you go.
- 1:05:11Down.
- 1:05:11They have a sports car, color market share breakdown, and the truck market too.
- 1:05:16And it's still gray, white, and black.
- 1:05:19However, then red is 22%, but that's down.
- 1:05:23So in 2004 was 22%.
- 1:05:25Now it's down to 14% and blue is right there with it.
- 1:05:2813.
- 1:05:28And then all the other colors are just like, I mean, they call
- 1:05:30it arrest me red for a reason.
- 1:05:32Right.
- 1:05:32I think less people want red.
- 1:05:34Who the fuck is buying gray sports cars?
- 1:05:37There's a lot of gray sports cars if you think about it.
- 1:05:39Those charcoal grays, those gunmetal grays, silvers and
- 1:05:43whatnot that they come in.
- 1:05:44There are no purple SUVs.
- 1:05:47Zero percent.
- 1:05:48Thank god.
- 1:05:50Zero percent gold sports cars.
- 1:05:53The color palettes are pretty boring.
- 1:05:55Why are they just saving money?
- 1:05:56I think so, and they're probably all using very similar paint,
- 1:05:59and they call it different names.
- 1:06:00Like, I remember it was a 944S2 in its last year.
- 1:06:05They had champagne, rose gold, metallic, and I looked at
- 1:06:08it and I'm like, it's pink.
- 1:06:09Like call it whatever you want it.
- 1:06:11It's metallic pink, you know?
- 1:06:12And then I think that came available on like the Cadillacs or something.
- 1:06:15Right.
- 1:06:15You're like, all right, you know, you're getting all your stuff from
- 1:06:18PPG or whoever it's coming from.
- 1:06:19I don't really care.
- 1:06:20We won't get into those details, but I think with the globalization,
- 1:06:24there's less paints available.
- 1:06:25They're all coming probably from one source, like the glasses
- 1:06:28coming from one or two places.
- 1:06:30You know, your dark blue Tesla might be the same color as a dark
- 1:06:33blue BMW at the end of the day.
- 1:06:35It's probably coming from the same can.
- 1:06:37I think this also kind of points to something we've seen over the
- 1:06:40automotive industry just as a whole over the last decade or two or three
- 1:06:45last generation or two is just the lack of art in automotive design.
- 1:06:50Colors play a lot into the arts of the vehicle.
- 1:06:53Where's all the fun?
- 1:06:54There's no fun in the design.
- 1:06:56There's no fun in the colors.
- 1:06:57I will say when I was at Eyes on Design though, every Ferrari, except for one,
- 1:07:02but all the other ones were black.
- 1:07:03They were sexy.
- 1:07:05Oh my God.
- 1:07:06Black Ferrari.
- 1:07:07That's nice.
- 1:07:08That's real nice.
- 1:07:09Real, real nice.
- 1:07:10So before we close out EVs and concept cars, did you guys hear the news?
- 1:07:14Did you hear about Fisker?
- 1:07:15Everybody's so excited about the ocean.
- 1:07:17They're going to make three more models, all this stuff.
- 1:07:19Hype, hype, hype, hype, hype, hype, hype.
- 1:07:21Bye.
- 1:07:21Bye bye.
- 1:07:22Fisker gonna Fisker?
- 1:07:24Fisker's gonna Fisker by declaring bankruptcy and they stopped making cars.
- 1:07:28How many times has Fisker filed for bankruptcy?
- 1:07:31It seems like every couple years they just file for bankruptcy, wipe
- 1:07:34out their debt, and then start over.
- 1:07:36They should just stop.
- 1:07:36And sadly, and ironically, I saw a brand new Fisker Ocean with temp
- 1:07:41tags while I was in Detroit, and I kept thinking to myself, I wonder
- 1:07:43how that's going to play out for you.
- 1:07:46That guy will be driving a Tesla next.
- 1:07:48Let's move on.
- 1:07:49Brad, it's your favorite section, Lost and Found, where we find the newest
- 1:07:53old supercar on dealership lots.
- 1:07:56Yeah.
- 1:07:57I actually wasn't going to do that this time.
- 1:07:59No, we can skip it.
- 1:08:03I feel like that segment's kind of beat.
- 1:08:05It was fun when we were talking about Chrysler 200s and Dodge
- 1:08:09Darts, you know, from 2016, they were still being sold in 2020.
- 1:08:13It's funny you bring that up because we might start having to do that again.
- 1:08:17Did you hear about the Fiat 500X?
- 1:08:19I think that's our new Dodge Dart.
- 1:08:21I did not hear about it.
- 1:08:22Fiat claims they have enough inventory of the discontinued Fiat
- 1:08:26500X to last through next year.
- 1:08:31So you're going to be sitting here going in 2028.
- 1:08:34So I got a brand new 2024 Fiat 500X for sale, 16, 000 available at Gray Chevrolet.
- 1:08:42I feel like that's optimistic.
- 1:08:43The actual number is they have enough to last them until Armageddon, because
- 1:08:49nobody's buying these fucking things.
- 1:08:51I don't know that I've ever seen one sold.
- 1:08:54And what did we say?
- 1:08:55Like the last time Fiat sold like 600 cars last year or something like that?
- 1:08:59I mean, it's pathetic.
- 1:09:01Didn't they sell a negative car one quarter or something like that?
- 1:09:04Who sold the negative car?
- 1:09:05Yeah, that was Chrysler.
- 1:09:06Yeah, negative one Chrysler 200s.
- 1:09:09I feel like this is going to be one of those situations.
- 1:09:12So let's do this.
- 1:09:13We'll put a pin in trying to find the newest old car dealership lots
- 1:09:17until the 500Xs start to appear.
- 1:09:19But there's some other things that we've discovered and lost and found.
- 1:09:22And you're a Volkswagen guy.
- 1:09:23So what do you think of this next one?
- 1:09:25Oh, I love it.
- 1:09:25This comes as no shock to me.
- 1:09:27Secret Volkswagen VR6, 463 horsepower and a Mark 6 and all
- 1:09:33this blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:09:34Okay, great.
- 1:09:35This is literally, literally at the same time Volkswagen put out
- 1:09:40that W12 mid engine Mark 6 GTI that was on top gear that Jeremy
- 1:09:45Clarkson was hooning around in.
- 1:09:46So, To put a 400 horsepower VR6 in a GTI, that's not a stretch of the imagination.
- 1:09:53Why Volkswagen didn't want to produce something with, let's say only 300
- 1:09:57horsepower is beyond me because I've seen it time and time again, in a
- 1:10:01tuner space, people were taking the 3.
- 1:10:036 liters out of the Cayennes and throwing them in golfs.
- 1:10:06I mean, it's doable.
- 1:10:07The factory could have done it if they wanted to.
- 1:10:09I love this car.
- 1:10:10And see, this is why I love Volkswagen.
- 1:10:12They're like playing a round of golf.
- 1:10:14Majority of the time it's complete shit.
- 1:10:17But every once in a while you'll hit a, a long drive straight down the fairway.
- 1:10:21Volkswagen will make a W 12 rear engine, all wheel drive GTI, with 500 horsepower.
- 1:10:28They'll make a VR six powered.
- 1:10:30What is this, a mark six.
- 1:10:32The motor didn't even come in the Mark 6.
- 1:10:34Hans and Franz were just sitting around the factory floor one day.
- 1:10:38They're like, what is that over there?
- 1:10:39That looks like a VR 6.
- 1:10:40What is that over there?
- 1:10:41Well, that Mark 6 needs a motor.
- 1:10:43And I was like, well, let's put them together and see what the fuck happens.
- 1:10:46Pretty much.
- 1:10:47And that'll be buried in a museum somewhere that no one
- 1:10:50will ever see as some prototype, you know, mule or whatever.
- 1:10:53Is the real travesty to me.
- 1:10:56It is, and maybe because they're backpedaling now, as we mentioned earlier,
- 1:10:59the whole EV movement inside a Volkswagen is what killed the VR6, because I think
- 1:11:05the VR6 would still be around today, and I was hoping to see, they got up to 3.
- 1:11:096 liters, where's the 4 liter VR6?
- 1:11:12Yeah.
- 1:11:13A VR6 turbo from the factory?
- 1:11:15Sign me up.
- 1:11:15My goodness.
- 1:11:16I love that they listed out all the mods for the car because this
- 1:11:21gives me a blueprint for how to complete my car many years from now.
- 1:11:25With the Lamborghini wheels and all that stuff?
- 1:11:27Yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 1:11:28RS6 brakes and Lamborghini wheels and a big old turbo.
- 1:11:31And this next one hit a little close to home for us.
- 1:11:34So the headline reads, Man's collection of old Alfa Romeos is forcibly
- 1:11:38scrapped after a battle with the city.
- 1:11:41Dozens of old Alfa Romeos landed in a Michigan scrapyard after a
- 1:11:44mechanic claims the city forced him to junk his parts collection.
- 1:11:48This is where I feel people with too much time on their hands and
- 1:11:54a little taste of authority think that they can come in and just tell
- 1:11:58somebody what to do with their shit.
- 1:11:59Who is this guy hurting with his 2000 Alfas?
- 1:12:03It's not like they were on the mountain, you know, in the middle of the front lawn.
- 1:12:06These were in a parking lot at a U S auto supply.
- 1:12:11And the guy, I guess either shares the lot with them or whatever, but
- 1:12:13he runs an Alfa Romeo specialty shop.
- 1:12:16So he's got to have parts cars.
- 1:12:17He's got to be able to harvest from them to service the
- 1:12:20other ones that are running.
- 1:12:21And I'm, I mean, I look at these pictures and I'm like, it just looks
- 1:12:23like a car lot with Alfa Romeos in them.
- 1:12:26Like Big deal.
- 1:12:27And there's some fencing up.
- 1:12:28So to your point, who's he bothering?
- 1:12:30So here's what happened.
- 1:12:31What happened was?
- 1:12:33This is my running theory.
- 1:12:34He didn't own the land that the cars were parked on.
- 1:12:37It was probably leased.
- 1:12:38And the owner of the land was selling the land for a profit to a developer
- 1:12:44who's going to come in and build townhouses because we need more housing.
- 1:12:47And so the developer was like, well, you got to get this shit off
- 1:12:50my land so I can start building.
- 1:12:52That's our theory.
- 1:12:53I guarantee it has something to do with money.
- 1:12:55Yeah.
- 1:12:56Money is exchanging hands at some level.
- 1:12:59And his stuff is in the way.
- 1:13:00I don't know if you've been to Montgomery County.
- 1:13:03They did all that development and everything in Montgomery County, Maryland.
- 1:13:06And there was the guy who owned the old cider barrel house or
- 1:13:09whatever, the cider barrel.
- 1:13:11All the land around it was sold.
- 1:13:13That person refused to sell.
- 1:13:15So they built a huge development.
- 1:13:17around him, but it was sitting there on the corner at three 55 and now he,
- 1:13:21he didn't get any business or whatever.
- 1:13:23And you know, I don't even remember.
- 1:13:24Wow.
- 1:13:24This money is exchanging hands.
- 1:13:26Somebody needed that land for something.
- 1:13:28And this guy got fucked.
- 1:13:30Well, speaking of that, I guess we would be remiss.
- 1:13:34We didn't talk about Tesla.
- 1:13:38Oh, didn't we talk about him enough already?
- 1:13:41I love how it's all inclusive.
- 1:13:43It's the car, it's the man, it's the company just all rolled up into one.
- 1:13:48There you go.
- 1:13:49There's their new slogan, the car, the man, the company, Musk.
- 1:13:53They should just drop Tesla.
- 1:13:55They should just be Musk.
- 1:13:57Are you driving your God?
- 1:13:59I can't even say, are you driving your musk?
- 1:14:02Yes.
- 1:14:02I've got my musk riding in my musk.
- 1:14:06What was the name of that perfume in Anchorman where you like Jaguar
- 1:14:12bottle and you would open it up and it would like, smell like hell.
- 1:14:15Like that's exactly what I'm thinking here.
- 1:14:17Sex Panther.
- 1:14:18Was that what it was?
- 1:14:19Musk.
- 1:14:22I wonder if we're going to look back in 20 years, 30 years when we're all relaxing
- 1:14:28on our lazy boys and we're doing drive thru number 537 and we're going to look
- 1:14:33back and say, do you remember that Bernie Madoff level Ponzi scheme that was Tesla?
- 1:14:37Which one?
- 1:14:38Which, which story?
- 1:14:40What specifically?
- 1:14:41I think we have about six of them in our lineup right here.
- 1:14:44Yeah.
- 1:14:45Is anybody surprised again?
- 1:14:49And there's been other reports around this too about that they fluff their
- 1:14:52range and the base case yada yada.
- 1:14:56Elon Musk is a fluffer.
- 1:15:00The latest one here is that the batteries only deliver 64 percent
- 1:15:06of the EPA range after three years.
- 1:15:09Wow.
- 1:15:09They're on the same mandatory obsolescence or mandatory upgrade that like Apple
- 1:15:14phones and Samsung phones are on.
- 1:15:16It's called battery technology where you use a product with a
- 1:15:20battery, the batteries degrade over time and you have to replace them.
- 1:15:24Do they swell?
- 1:15:24You know how the apples like tend to swell.
- 1:15:26Cause that'd be really bad.
- 1:15:28Oh, they just combust.
- 1:15:29The title is somewhat misleading because you have to look at the data and the
- 1:15:35graph shows them all not starting at a hundred percent battery life.
- 1:15:41So they're really, they're not degrading almost 40%.
- 1:15:44They're really only.
- 1:15:45degrading 10 to 15%, which is still seems like a lot in three years when
- 1:15:51apparently Tesla claims that you'd still have 70 percent of original health after
- 1:15:56eight years or a hundred thousand miles.
- 1:15:58So why are they not starting at a hundred?
- 1:16:00So that is a problem even with other smaller scale rechargeable batteries.
- 1:16:05You get a hundred percent charge the first time, and then they get this
- 1:16:09weird, I guess, recharge memory or muscle memory kind of thing going on.
- 1:16:14And they can only really charge up to like 80 percent of their original
- 1:16:17charge capacity or something.
- 1:16:19And then they do start to sort of fall apart after that.
- 1:16:21So you can translate the consumer batteries and upscale them to the car.
- 1:16:25So that sort of makes sense.
- 1:16:26Even in your phone on the Apple side of the house, there's some
- 1:16:30gaming going on there too, where.
- 1:16:32100 percent is really 80%, you know, or whatever it is that it's
- 1:16:35charging up to and it goes from there, but we can put a pin in that.
- 1:16:38What's interesting about this article is it's a bit of a fish
- 1:16:41hook in the sense that it's bringing you in because, oh, here's some
- 1:16:44more Tesla stuff, but it actually applies to all the across the board.
- 1:16:48Yeah, it's, this isn't a Tesla specific issue.
- 1:16:51It's battery issue.
- 1:16:52No, no, no.
- 1:16:52This is an EV industry problem.
- 1:16:54Yeah.
- 1:16:54And they use the Tesla's as an example because there's a lot of them on the road.
- 1:16:59So I was like, okay, cool.
- 1:17:01I was glad to see that as you go through this and read this pretty long
- 1:17:04article that they pointed out that it does apply to just about everybody.
- 1:17:09You know, what doesn't degrade to 64 percent of its capacity, unless I put
- 1:17:14bricks in the bottom of it is my gas tank.
- 1:17:16Just want to point that out.
- 1:17:17If it holds 13 gallons, I put 13 gallons in, that can always put 13 gallons in it.
- 1:17:22Just want to point that out.
- 1:17:24Yeah.
- 1:17:24Contest that fact.
- 1:17:26Meanwhile, I was listening to NPR and they were chatting with some folks.
- 1:17:31That bought into that whole SpaceX ride share Ponzi scheme.
- 1:17:36And so, you know, they were talking to this gentleman from Asia that
- 1:17:40had bought not one, but eight seats on the loop around the earth's moon
- 1:17:46trip that Elon was selling, you know, in his Tesla timeshare package.
- 1:17:51And needless to say that individual invested a ton of money.
- 1:17:54The numbers are supposedly like on the low end, 300, 000 per person.
- 1:17:58So for a billionaire, you know, what's a couple million bucks.
- 1:18:01Granted, Elon's getting what, a 55 billion paycheck now or whatever
- 1:18:05it is that they're saying that he's going to get out of this latest boom.
- 1:18:07Well earned.
- 1:18:08Yeah.
- 1:18:09Well deserved.
- 1:18:10So another scam there too.
- 1:18:12But now this guy is tired of waiting because like the Cybertruck, he's been
- 1:18:16waiting since 2018 for his lap around the moon that he was promised, which
- 1:18:21I don't think is ever going to happen.
- 1:18:22So he asked Tesla for his money back and Brad, how does that work again?
- 1:18:27It doesn't happen.
- 1:18:27It doesn't happen.
- 1:18:28Okay.
- 1:18:29Just checking.
- 1:18:29I mean, yeah, that money has been spent.
- 1:18:33Yeah.
- 1:18:33So this is the Tesla model.
- 1:18:35We've got this great idea.
- 1:18:37We can't afford to build it.
- 1:18:39So we're going to sell it now.
- 1:18:41And then we're going to use the funds from the sale to build it.
- 1:18:44And then we're going to come up with another idea and we're going to sell that.
- 1:18:47We're going to sell the idea and then use those funds to build this other idea.
- 1:18:52Like Eric said, the Ponzi scheme, all of its vaporware.
- 1:18:55So how many Tesla roadsters are going to get built?
- 1:18:57Do you think?
- 1:18:58Well, the Tesla Roadsters are funding the Cybertruck.
- 1:19:01Can you put your deposit down yet?
- 1:19:03A thousand people or something put down deposits on those things.
- 1:19:07And how many years ago was that?
- 1:19:08We're talking about the lasers and the cannons and it's
- 1:19:10going to be zero to 60 in 1.
- 1:19:139 seconds.
- 1:19:13It's going to be that.
- 1:19:13You remember that episode we did?
- 1:19:16Was it season one, Brad, like five years ago with Bobby Parks.
- 1:19:19And he was talking about how they were going to go drag
- 1:19:21racing with the Tesla Roadster.
- 1:19:23And I'm like, yeah, okay.
- 1:19:24I didn't believe it then.
- 1:19:26We're all cautiously optimistic, but it's literally been five years.
- 1:19:30It's never going to happen.
- 1:19:32Well, we said the same thing about the cyber truck.
- 1:19:34So yes, but it's also a piece of your rife with problems.
- 1:19:39Yes.
- 1:19:39Speaking of problems of the cyber truck, that wiper blade keeps giving them issues.
- 1:19:46Something so basic.
- 1:19:47And remember I said blade, not blades.
- 1:19:51It's that six foot windshield wiper.
- 1:19:54They're delaying Cybertruck orders because the windshield wiper doesn't work.
- 1:19:59Well, it also takes 37 menu clicks to turn it on.
- 1:20:03They don't want you to use it.
- 1:20:04That's why it's buried so far down in the menu.
- 1:20:06Just the supply chain quality issue on the wiper motors.
- 1:20:10They're failing.
- 1:20:12No big, well, you have to imagine the torque.
- 1:20:15Put on that wiper motor with a single arm.
- 1:20:18That's like six feet long.
- 1:20:20And then the air resistance, how big is that motor?
- 1:20:23That's got to move that thing.
- 1:20:24I didn't do the engineering calc.
- 1:20:26It's a 2.
- 1:20:263 liter EcoBoost just to move the windshield wiper.
- 1:20:30It does remind me having seen it in person.
- 1:20:33If you remember the one 90 E.
- 1:20:36And some of the other Mercedes of that time period in like
- 1:20:38the late 80s, early 90s.
- 1:20:40The scissor wiper.
- 1:20:41Some of them had like that big scissor wiper.
- 1:20:43Honda Civic had that.
- 1:20:45Yeah, but they also had a single wiper blade on the Mercedes and it was massive.
- 1:20:49It worked then, I guess, you know, history, I guess has
- 1:20:52a tendency to repeat itself.
- 1:20:53Speaking of history repeating itself, guess what?
- 1:20:55No stupid drag race.
- 1:20:57But this time the Tesla loses.
- 1:21:00Loser!
- 1:21:01Loser.
- 1:21:02Was this an off-road drag race?
- 1:21:04It was between an F-150 lightning and a cyber truck.
- 1:21:07And the lightning leaves the SA truck in the dust.
- 1:21:10I mean the sand.
- 1:21:11I was gonna say he dusted them.
- 1:21:13Yeah, he dusted them.
- 1:21:14Good.
- 1:21:14Real good.
- 1:21:15Yeah.
- 1:21:17Oh well, you know the tires, all the problem.
- 1:21:19Supply chain, the manufacturer of the rubber.
- 1:21:22That Tesla got a head start, but that lightning came up quick.
- 1:21:26It just called it a day.
- 1:21:27Maybe it's just the way because when you video wheels and stuff, it almost looks
- 1:21:32like the rear of the F 150 actually locks up and he's just dragging the rear wheel.
- 1:21:38It's the camera.
- 1:21:39I could watch this video all day long and repeat.
- 1:21:42It is just fantastic.
- 1:21:43I love the guy.
- 1:21:44With the American flag, like, yeah, yeah, I absolutely love it.
- 1:21:53Oh, that's good stuff.
- 1:21:54Which is a better run company, Tesla or General Motors?
- 1:22:02Notice that there was not a Chevy Silverado in this drag race.
- 1:22:05It was a Ford.
- 1:22:06That is true.
- 1:22:07Wrapping out some Tesla news.
- 1:22:09Our favorite internet idiot, Whistlin Diesel.
- 1:22:12I don't even know why we're giving this person any airtime.
- 1:22:15We say like, oh, how do these people get murmur?
- 1:22:18And then it's people like us that are like, helping him.
- 1:22:21I don't want to help him.
- 1:22:22I'm not going to talk about this.
- 1:22:23You can talk about it.
- 1:22:24I'm going to stay silent.
- 1:22:24All three of our Arbitron rated listeners.
- 1:22:27But yeah, I mean, this guy, I bring it up only because he's beaten cars
- 1:22:32to death and now he's got his hands.
- 1:22:35On a cyber truck.
- 1:22:36And so there's no video footage yet.
- 1:22:40Just some pictures on Instagram with the hype and all this kind of thing.
- 1:22:43So I want to see what he does to it.
- 1:22:45He's going to explode it because he's probably going to get it
- 1:22:48into some like benign accident.
- 1:22:50And the thing is just going to like go into a million pieces.
- 1:22:53And maybe that's the end of whistling diesel as we know it.
- 1:22:56It's Okay, what would be more interesting is we know how
- 1:23:01Ilan Takes the shit like this.
- 1:23:03Oh, yeah What is the retribution here because he's not just gonna like
- 1:23:10is he really just gonna sit back?
- 1:23:12I don't know.
- 1:23:13But if this guy goes and like brutalizes his baby cybertruck here
- 1:23:19Makes a mockery of it, basically.
- 1:23:21That's a lot different than somebody trying to give you an artistic tribute.
- 1:23:24Yeah, I can't wait.
- 1:23:25I'm kind of looking forward to this.
- 1:23:27I am too.
- 1:23:27Yeah, for once.
- 1:23:29I hate his stuff in general.
- 1:23:30I think he absolutely just abuses cars for all the wrong reasons.
- 1:23:35And a lot of the cars are like, man, I wouldn't, I wouldn't driven that.
- 1:23:38That's like a nice car.
- 1:23:39Abusing a Cybertruck?
- 1:23:40I want to see how this turns out.
- 1:23:42In the one picture, there is a tank in the background.
- 1:23:44Oh, dude, this is going to be great.
- 1:23:46Bulletproof glass?
- 1:23:47How about missile proof glass?
- 1:23:49Excellent.
- 1:23:50That's probably accurate.
- 1:23:51That's going to be awesome.
- 1:23:53Well, now that I've thoroughly lowered Tanya's expectations.
- 1:23:56Lowered expectations.
- 1:23:59Zah!
- 1:24:00Zah!
- 1:24:01Yeah!
- 1:24:02Yeah!
- 1:24:03Miracle!
- 1:24:04I got one more bit of Tesla news for you.
- 1:24:07You remember the infamous, we're gonna build a sub 30, 000 scheme,
- 1:24:12but 25, 000, air quotes, Tesla Model Y is too much for you.
- 1:24:16How about a Chinese knockoff for two and a half grand?
- 1:24:19Is it actually a car or is it like a model car?
- 1:24:22You don't know what this is.
- 1:24:24Looks terrible though.
- 1:24:25You get inside and you pedal like a Flintstones car?
- 1:24:28That's what I'm wondering.
- 1:24:29The body panels are straighter than the Cybertruck.
- 1:24:32But the front wheels look like reverse camber, like they're, they're out, you
- 1:24:35know, On the top and in on the bottom.
- 1:24:37They do not have a stance problem here.
- 1:24:39Okay, we got a reverse stance.
- 1:24:41This thing is terrible.
- 1:24:42I think it's a death trap.
- 1:24:4413 horsepower, 10 kilowatt, 6 foot pounds of torque.
- 1:24:48I mean, this is a golf cart with a Tesla Y body on top of it.
- 1:24:52It is awful.
- 1:24:53But two and a half grand, although it looks like it gets
- 1:24:55about the same range as the
- 1:24:59That's perfect, I mean I'd say that's an expensive coffin, but actually coffins
- 1:25:03cost about that much It's a creative coffin Meanwhile, we do have some rich
- 1:25:10people firing Sponsored in part by Garage Style Magazine, highlighting
- 1:25:14all the wonderful things that we can put in our garages, because after all,
- 1:25:18what doesn't belong in your garage?
- 1:25:19So let's talk about some things you could put in your garage.
- 1:25:22Tanya, you brought this one to us.
- 1:25:24What do you got?
- 1:25:25Oh yeah, I did.
- 1:25:26It might be sold now, because I don't know, it's already been a couple weeks.
- 1:25:29However, if you are interested in a little piece of history here, I
- 1:25:34guess, with an iconic female artist.
- 1:25:38You could turn back down.
- 1:25:42You, too, could drive Cher's 1972 Ferrari 246 Dino GTS.
- 1:25:48I mean, I'm actually kind of impressed by this.
- 1:25:50I'm like, wow.
- 1:25:51Cher had good taste.
- 1:25:52All right.
- 1:25:54It was the cheap Ferrari, though.
- 1:25:57Her 1972 Ferrari apparently showed up on Bring a Trailer.
- 1:26:01Really nice.
- 1:26:02I don't know if it's the photograph, or that Dino is a slightly darker
- 1:26:06red, but it looks really good.
- 1:26:08Ah, the auction did end on June 10th.
- 1:26:10And?
- 1:26:11Alright, any guesses?
- 1:26:12How much did this sell for?
- 1:26:15It did sell, sold on 6 10.
- 1:26:17Eric, before you answer, I will tell you, there is another Dino.
- 1:26:21Oh.
- 1:26:21246 GT set no reserve right now on bring a trailer.
- 1:26:28The auction has 10 days left.
- 1:26:30Current bid 127, 500.
- 1:26:33The share bid is over.
- 1:26:35And this one was not shares.
- 1:26:37This is the GT, not a GTS.
- 1:26:39And that GT did not have shares, but cheeks in it or Sonny's.
- 1:26:46I'm gonna say it sold for 357, 000.
- 1:26:51No.
- 1:26:51Which one?
- 1:26:52His or mine?
- 1:26:53Shares.
- 1:26:54350, 000?
- 1:26:55Yeah.
- 1:26:55Higher.
- 1:26:56What?
- 1:26:57500,000, a little bit higher.
- 1:27:00Really?
- 1:27:01What did it come in at?
- 1:27:02568,000.
- 1:27:04Wow.
- 1:27:05To have Cher's butt cheeks on the leather Cher's butt cheek,
- 1:27:08and three other people's butt cheeks, , or five and a half cyr.
- 1:27:12I take this over five and a half Cyber.
- 1:27:15Oh, yeah, of course.
- 1:27:16Wow.
- 1:27:16Okay.
- 1:27:17Dino's have gone up in price.
- 1:27:18Holy smokes.
- 1:27:19Yeah.
- 1:27:20Cause they were sort of like 308s in a way, well the predecessor
- 1:27:24to the 308 and they were always considered like not Ferraris, right?
- 1:27:27They're the Dino's commemorated after Ferrari sun and all this kind
- 1:27:31of thing, but it's sort of like, you know, they were the cheap Ferrari,
- 1:27:33but yeah, obviously they've climbed quite a bit in the market space.
- 1:27:36There were 271 Dino, 246 GTs, both of them sold for over 300, 000
- 1:27:41current market for a regular Dino.
- 1:27:44Not shares Dino is between three and five hundred thousand.
- 1:27:47All right, 246, 308, or 328.
- 1:27:51What would you buy?
- 1:27:51Which would I buy?
- 1:27:53Oh god, that's hard.
- 1:27:55Shit, it would have to be between.
- 1:27:57Who am I kidding?
- 1:27:58It's Magnum's car.
- 1:28:00Yeah, it's the 308.
- 1:28:01You know, I'm starting to walk away from the 308.
- 1:28:04I've kind of re engaged the 328.
- 1:28:07I got a chance to drive a 328 QV many, many years ago.
- 1:28:10After I saw that black one at eyes on design, I really liked that car.
- 1:28:15I liked the squarishness of it.
- 1:28:17And I think it's underappreciated.
- 1:28:18Yeah, it's heavier, but it's got the bigger motor and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:28:22But I kind of liked the 328 and the right color.
- 1:28:25It's pretty cool.
- 1:28:25I mean, I wouldn't give it away if someone gave it to me, right?
- 1:28:29But also Magnum's car.
- 1:28:31Yeah.
- 1:28:32Well, yeah.
- 1:28:32Okay.
- 1:28:33All right.
- 1:28:34How much are Tom Selleck's butt cheeks worth?
- 1:28:36Probably a lot more than 568, 000.
- 1:28:39Easily 10 times shares butt cheeks.
- 1:28:41How much is Tom Selleck's facial hair worth?
- 1:28:44The mustache ride.
- 1:28:45How much is that worth?
- 1:28:47Oh my god.
- 1:28:48Next up in Rich People Things, and this is destined for our holiday
- 1:28:52shopping guide, have you all seen the new Nuvelari collection?
- 1:28:57It's a line of apparel designed by Andres Graf out of Europe.
- 1:29:00It's commemorating the famous Formula One driver and Ferrari driver Tazio Nuvolari.
- 1:29:06Kind of goes along with the Tazio magazine as well.
- 1:29:09I think the stuff that they have, it was really sharp.
- 1:29:12And actually, not really too rich people thangs.
- 1:29:15I think it's pretty appropriately priced for what you're getting.
- 1:29:18It does throw back to the old Tatsuya Nuvolari logos and using, you know,
- 1:29:23file footage and old photographs and things like that to get inspired from
- 1:29:27the way he dressed and bring that type of style forward into the 2024s.
- 1:29:32So you're talking like a hundred years.
- 1:29:35into the future, bringing Tazio Nuvolari back into the scene.
- 1:29:38I think this is going to be pretty cool, and it's going to make
- 1:29:40a really interesting gift for people this coming holiday season.
- 1:29:44Not bad.
- 1:29:44I don't have any thoughts about it.
- 1:29:46We have a link to it in the show notes, so you can check it out.
- 1:29:48I mean, it's all primarily male centric, though, so I'm looking at it, and I
- 1:29:52still don't have any thoughts about it.
- 1:29:55I am not its target market.
- 1:29:57True.
- 1:29:57But I will say now that Lamar is over, check out the Lamar official store and you
- 1:30:03can get a lot of this year's gear on sale.
- 1:30:05So you can clean up now that the race is over with.
- 1:30:08If you're an ACO member, especially an ACO USA member, you can get a pretty
- 1:30:12good discount anywhere between 15 to 25 percent off of the list price, even on
- 1:30:17top of things that are already on sale.
- 1:30:19So I was doing a little shopping myself the other day going,
- 1:30:22Hmm, I think I need some.
- 1:30:23It's more Le Mans gear in my wardrobe.
- 1:30:26So that's something else to add to the list.
- 1:30:28And then if that's not enough, I know it's a little late for Father's Day, but you
- 1:30:31know, we don't celebrate anything in June.
- 1:30:33So if you go back to Garage Style Magazine, Don put together
- 1:30:37a list of Father's Day items.
- 1:30:40You might've missed it.
- 1:30:41So check it out.
- 1:30:42There's something basically for you, for the car or for your garage.
- 1:30:46On the list.
- 1:30:47So check out the father's day shopping guide over in garage style,
- 1:30:50and maybe use that also as some inspiration for your holiday shopping.
- 1:30:54If you're like me and I like to shop early in the year and not wait till the
- 1:30:57last minute, all ideas are good ideas.
- 1:31:00I love where his head's at.
- 1:31:02Anybody looking to get me a father's day gift, please use the first one on here.
- 1:31:06The Mecham auction site and go and get me something from Mecham.
- 1:31:10That's what I want for father's day.
- 1:31:12Well, guys, if that wasn't enough.
- 1:31:13Would you like to buy a racetrack?
- 1:31:15Would you like to buy a racetrack?
- 1:31:17How about Willow Springs?
- 1:31:19A little far.
- 1:31:20Who's trying to build apartments here?
- 1:31:22What?
- 1:31:22Willow Springs is the middle of nowhere.
- 1:31:24It's where the dirt people live.
- 1:31:25It's boring to get rid of.
- 1:31:26Isn't it iconic?
- 1:31:27It is.
- 1:31:28It's been around since the early 50s.
- 1:31:30It's one of America's quote unquote oldest racetracks.
- 1:31:33Older than that would be Watkins Glen and a few others.
- 1:31:35But yeah, it's been around forever.
- 1:31:38It's iconic.
- 1:31:38You know, you look at Ford versus Ferrari, they filmed it at Willow Springs because
- 1:31:42races like that took place at Willow Springs where they were testing iconic
- 1:31:46cars like the GT 40 and things like that.
- 1:31:48So it is up for sale.
- 1:31:49Would you guys like to guess how much for millions, right?
- 1:31:52I think it's on the cheap side for an iconic historic racetrack.
- 1:31:565 million.
- 1:31:57That's too cheap.
- 1:31:585 million.
- 1:31:58Let's do this.
- 1:31:59Let's get it done.
- 1:32:0075 million.
- 1:32:01A little too high there.
- 1:32:02So they are offering it up right now.
- 1:32:04You can own.
- 1:32:05Classic Willow Springs for the low, low bargain basement price of 30 million.
- 1:32:10That's with an M 30 million.
- 1:32:14That's really not bad.
- 1:32:15Yeah.
- 1:32:15Let me just go ahead and dip into my coffers, sell your Volkswagen
- 1:32:19and it's worth something because used car prices are still insane
- 1:32:23and you can buy Willow Springs.
- 1:32:24I would need to sell a few thousand.
- 1:32:28That's a lot of shares, butt cheek, to buy Willow Springs.
- 1:32:31Yeah.
- 1:32:33So it's been family owned this whole time.
- 1:32:35Yeah.
- 1:32:36Who's gonna, I mean, I guess some rich person, maybe.
- 1:32:39That's why it's rich people things, but granted, if you had the money or
- 1:32:43if you had a bunch of people to go in together to buy Willow Springs,
- 1:32:46I mean, it's an active racetrack.
- 1:32:48Rick Newt, Le Mans legend, he coaches at Willow Springs.
- 1:32:52It's not like it's an inactive track, like it's dead, like you're buying
- 1:32:56lost speedways or something like that.
- 1:32:58It's Willow Springs.
- 1:32:59It can't be making money.
- 1:33:00They wouldn't be selling it if it was making money.
- 1:33:02What big races do they have there?
- 1:33:04Well, it's not even that.
- 1:33:05It's the other side of the argument, which is 62 years of family ownership.
- 1:33:08And if the family wants to get out, they just want to get out.
- 1:33:11Loss leader or moneymaker, it doesn't matter if you're done with it.
- 1:33:14That's true.
- 1:33:15But to me as an investor.
- 1:33:18I would need to see the financials and like how much money are you
- 1:33:20making on this racetrack for my 38 million dollars or whatever.
- 1:33:24That's gotta be a long payback term before you've gotten a return on your investment.
- 1:33:29With the prices of HBEDs now, it's like two seasons.
- 1:33:33You're done.
- 1:33:34Yeah, but nobody's going.
- 1:33:37Hooked on driving will be there.
- 1:33:38Trust me.
- 1:33:39Bad investment.
- 1:33:41It is a bad investment, but it's also, it's Willow Springs.
- 1:33:44You could own a racetrack.
- 1:33:46Come on.
- 1:33:47Ah, you know, it is what it is.
- 1:33:49Rich people thangs.
- 1:33:51Let's talk about not rich people thangs and go down south and
- 1:33:54talk about alligators and beer.
- 1:34:11Yeah.
- 1:34:11Oh man, which one do we start with?
- 1:34:14Florida man.
- 1:34:16Well, maybe we should do a Florida sandwich, so we'll go out of order.
- 1:34:19What does that taste like?
- 1:34:20We're about to find out.
- 1:34:22We're about to find out, so.
- 1:34:24Beer and tears.
- 1:34:25All right, so there's a high speed chase in Florida.
- 1:34:27100 mile an hour chase that this man sends the deputies on.
- 1:34:32What do you think he was driving?
- 1:34:33You'll be surprised.
- 1:34:34Altima.
- 1:34:34Because we don't open these.
- 1:34:35These are all reactions, right?
- 1:34:37I'm gonna say Chrysler Sebring convertible.
- 1:34:39I'll give you a hint.
- 1:34:41It's not domestic, but it's also not a JDM.
- 1:34:44It's not domestic, but it's not a JDM.
- 1:34:47Only leaves you with Something German, right?
- 1:34:49So, oh, 100 mile an hour.
- 1:34:53So it's gotta be something with a little bit of engine in it.
- 1:34:56Does he have turn signals?
- 1:34:57I don't think he used it when he made the illegal U turn,
- 1:35:01probably, and sped past the deputy.
- 1:35:04I got it.
- 1:35:051984 Mercedes 300 diesel.
- 1:35:101995 BMW 318 Ti.
- 1:35:15Oh, that's a good choice.
- 1:35:17We're getting way too specific.
- 1:35:19They didn't go into that level of detail.
- 1:35:22Okay, it was German.
- 1:35:24It was a BMW.
- 1:35:27They did not specify other than it was a red one.
- 1:35:30Is there a video?
- 1:35:32Let me see if there's a video.
- 1:35:33I don't think so.
- 1:35:34That's like a compilation video of other stuff.
- 1:35:36But anyway, the man, he does this U turn, speeds past the cops, cops chase him.
- 1:35:42He starts weaving in and out of traffic.
- 1:35:43He gets up to almost a hundred miles an hour.
- 1:35:46Da da da da.
- 1:35:47Hits a curb, goes into a dirt embankment, comes to a stop by a retention pond, gets
- 1:35:52out of the car because it's Florida and that's what you do, and you go swim into
- 1:35:55the retention pond to evade the police.
- 1:35:58And then when the police have set up a perimeter around a retention
- 1:36:03pond, He's swimming back and forth.
- 1:36:08He's going to outsmart.
- 1:36:09He's going to go to one side and you know, the cops, they're
- 1:36:11all going to run to that side.
- 1:36:13And while they're running, he's going to turn around and swim to the other side.
- 1:36:16And then they'll have to run to the other side and then he's going to stop and swim.
- 1:36:20Yeah.
- 1:36:21Keystone cops.
- 1:36:2220 minutes.
- 1:36:23He let him swim for 20 minutes.
- 1:36:2520 minutes.
- 1:36:26To get him out of the pond.
- 1:36:28If I was one of those police, I would have got out my track chair
- 1:36:31and just sat on the side of the pond.
- 1:36:33And we would just set up every five feet, a police officer sits
- 1:36:36there with his little chair.
- 1:36:37You get your beer, you sit there and watch this jabroni swimming around
- 1:36:42in this fucking gator infested pond.
- 1:36:44Yeah, I was gonna say, was he swimming like that because
- 1:36:46the gators were chasing him?
- 1:36:48Like, little did they know he wasn't trying to evade them.
- 1:36:51What's really important about this story is, If you're tuning into the drive
- 1:36:55through for the first time, which I don't know where you've been, but every
- 1:36:58time you bring up a story about Florida men evading the police, they either
- 1:37:04there's a swap involved, there's water involved, they're disembarking from
- 1:37:08their aqua vehicle, and then they're running naked off into somewhere.
- 1:37:13Is this just like in the playbook for criminals?
- 1:37:15In Florida, like, I'm gonna abandon my vehicle and I'm gonna go swimming.
- 1:37:19It happens more often than not.
- 1:37:21I don't know what it is.
- 1:37:22Something about the water down there.
- 1:37:23Gator piss that they keep drinking when they're swimming.
- 1:37:26He was charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, resisting
- 1:37:30law enforcement without violence, leaving the scene of the crash.
- 1:37:33I have an issue with leaving the scene of the crash.
- 1:37:35He didn't technically leave the scene.
- 1:37:37He was the scene.
- 1:37:38Putting in laps.
- 1:37:40So what's the meat in this sourdough Florida sandwich that we've created here?
- 1:37:44It looks like Michigan meat.
- 1:37:46Does this happen while I was there?
- 1:37:47This better not have happened while I was there.
- 1:37:48No.
- 1:37:49And a bizarre story that the first time I read it, it like took me a couple of times
- 1:37:53because it was like, I'm about Michigan man, never had a driver's license.
- 1:37:57He's on a zoom court meeting, driving in a car to get a driver's license reinstated,
- 1:38:02but he doesn't have a driver's license or something ridiculous like that.
- 1:38:08Then he's like driving on a suspended license, but then not on a suspended
- 1:38:11license because he didn't have a license.
- 1:38:14It was a weird story and now I'm rereading it and not finding it in the
- 1:38:18same way, but Okay, all of that aside, when did we start going to court by Zoom?
- 1:38:22I don't know, because that also is like, really?
- 1:38:26Is that a COVID thing?
- 1:38:28How does that work, exactly?
- 1:38:29I like how he had to spend two nights in jail.
- 1:38:32Did they put a computer in a jail cell?
- 1:38:38He just can't leave his seat?
- 1:38:40He's just gonna sit there in like, virtual jail?
- 1:38:43This is the fucking Sims?
- 1:38:44What the hell's going on here?
- 1:38:46Oh my god, there's multiple people on the Zoom, too.
- 1:38:48And he's in the car.
- 1:38:50The whole time.
- 1:38:52Wow.
- 1:38:53So the bailiffs, like, all rise and then everybody in the house stands up.
- 1:38:57Does he stand up in the car?
- 1:38:58To make it a right turn into the 7 Eleven.
- 1:39:00Did he wave at the end of the Zoom call?
- 1:39:03Yeah, I mean, that's the real point of the story is, like, how are you
- 1:39:06doing a traffic violation Zoom call?
- 1:39:11It's funny because I heard from somebody recently that said they got a speeding
- 1:39:16ticket down in Kentucky or Tennessee or something like that and they live like
- 1:39:20way far away and they're like, the only way they want you to be there in person.
- 1:39:23I'm being like, man, now you could do it over zoom, get it done.
- 1:39:26You don't have to drive back down there and get your ticket taken
- 1:39:29care of and hire a lawyer to go in for you and all that stuff.
- 1:39:32Just do Zoom.
- 1:39:33Set it up.
- 1:39:34Get it done.
- 1:39:35But then how does that work?
- 1:39:36Because like, isn't like part of actually showing up in court is you
- 1:39:40hope that the officer doesn't show up?
- 1:39:42Because if the officer doesn't No!
- 1:39:43The officer's sitting at Dunkin Donuts with the laptop and the
- 1:39:46password, he just brings up Zoom.
- 1:39:48And so I'm saying like in the old days, the whole thing was like, Oh, I'm going
- 1:39:51to go into the I'm not going to pay.
- 1:39:52I'm going to go to the court thing because Yeah, because the
- 1:39:55cop doesn't have time to come.
- 1:39:56Yeah.
- 1:39:56He doesn't show up and then it gets thrown out.
- 1:39:58But now he can just be like, Like you said, driving down to the local whatever,
- 1:40:02you can just doot, doot, doot, zoom it in.
- 1:40:05Yeah, I'm here.
- 1:40:07All jokes aside, that's actually a scary reality.
- 1:40:10In some ways it's a good thing, but in other ways, you're not
- 1:40:13going to be able to beat the system if that was your intention.
- 1:40:16But times are changing.
- 1:40:18They are changing.
- 1:40:19I never thought you'd be going to court over Zoom.
- 1:40:21Oh, man.
- 1:40:23Alright, let's put the bread back on the other side of the sandwich.
- 1:40:26Put a little mayonnaise, a little mustard on there too.
- 1:40:29And let's go back down to Florida.
- 1:40:32Florida man intentionally drove into a jail, dropped several
- 1:40:36rubber snakes on the ground.
- 1:40:38That's not it, okay?
- 1:40:39That's not even it.
- 1:40:40That doesn't even cover everything.
- 1:40:42You read it and you're like, you know, oh, he wanted to threaten to
- 1:40:46kill everybody and all this stuff.
- 1:40:48And you're like, whoa, this is getting dark and deep.
- 1:40:50Then you gotta layer on all the, the Florida condiments here, because he
- 1:40:55intentionally drives into the jail.
- 1:40:56The rubber snakes thing, I don't know.
- 1:40:58But he drops them.
- 1:40:59He also pours motor oil on the lobby floor and wants to set it on fire.
- 1:41:04And then he yelled, oh, Doyle rules.
- 1:41:06Do you remember the scene in the transporter where he pours the
- 1:41:09oil and then he puts the bicycle cleats on his shoes and he is like
- 1:41:12round house kicking everybody.
- 1:41:13That's where that's what he was trying to do.
- 1:41:15So he is threatening everybody.
- 1:41:17Florida you may have already guessed it.
- 1:41:19Oh boy.
- 1:41:20He wasn't wearing no pants
- 1:41:25And not that there's anything wrong with this He was wearing a woman's blouse.
- 1:41:29He was poo bearing it up in the jail.
- 1:41:32You remember what I said You evade by leaving your, abandoning
- 1:41:36your vehicle and you strip down.
- 1:41:38But in this case, there was no body of water involved.
- 1:41:40So he had to pour the oil to simulate the water evacuation.
- 1:41:47And the snakes are the gators.
- 1:41:48The
- 1:41:57rubber snakes are the best part of this.
- 1:42:00Wait a second.
- 1:42:01Wait a second.
- 1:42:02He's not wearing any pants.
- 1:42:04Where did the snakes come from?
- 1:42:06They weren't trouser snakes.
- 1:42:08But he pulled them out from somewhere and threw them on the ground.
- 1:42:10They must have been in the car.
- 1:42:12Wasn't there another story about a Florida man that was trying to dress
- 1:42:16as a woman and he got on a boat?
- 1:42:17Yes.
- 1:42:19Yes.
- 1:42:20That might have been the last one.
- 1:42:21Where he disguised he had put the wig on and everything in a woman's dress and
- 1:42:25he was stealing Yeah, yeah, and he had the beard and the pit viper sunglasses.
- 1:42:29This must be his cousin Maybe it's him He's got a book bag that says
- 1:42:35girl power Wow, what a mess But he intentionally crashed into the jails.
- 1:42:42It's like Monopoly.
- 1:42:42Do not pass.
- 1:42:43Go do not collect 200 book.
- 1:42:45Um, Dana, Florida never disappoints.
- 1:42:48See, there's always that lull at the beginning of the year.
- 1:42:52Haven't quite gotten out of hibernation mode yet, but it's like when the heat
- 1:42:56starts coming and the swampiness starts, it's like the clothes start coming off.
- 1:43:05Well guys, it's time we go behind the pit wall and talk about motorsports news.
- 1:43:11Drama Llamas of Formula One, what's going on?
- 1:43:16We had Montreal.
- 1:43:18We had Monaco, which Was super boring, oh my god.
- 1:43:23We would not have covered that at the last drive thru because it
- 1:43:27would have been right after it.
- 1:43:29So we had Monaco, which was a parade lap yet again because the top 10
- 1:43:34Drivers all finished in the same spots they started the race in,
- 1:43:38which means finally Ferrari, Charles Leclerc, gets a podium on number one.
- 1:43:46It's a hollow victory though, I'm gonna say that.
- 1:43:48He still had to qualify for that position, so he outqualified everybody to get that.
- 1:43:53Is he the first Monogasp?
- 1:43:55to win at Monaco.
- 1:43:57I think so.
- 1:43:58He was either the first or the first in like a really long time.
- 1:44:00So it was a pretty big deal for all of them.
- 1:44:02So good for him.
- 1:44:03Carlos Sainz also ended in third.
- 1:44:05Piastri was second.
- 1:44:07So good for him.
- 1:44:08Yeah.
- 1:44:08And then Verstappen was in sixth place.
- 1:44:11He was unable to do anything heroic and make any sort of passes.
- 1:44:15Because his car is shite now that Adrian knew he's gone.
- 1:44:17Well, there is something to be said about that because no longer are there
- 1:44:2420 second, 40 second gaps at any of these races between him and the next person.
- 1:44:29The Canadian Grand Prix, this was a little bit bigger than when they were
- 1:44:32in Italy, which was less than a second between him and Lando Norris at the very
- 1:44:36end with Lando making huge moves to try to get into first, but didn't make it.
- 1:44:40The Canadians.
- 1:44:41Under four seconds.
- 1:44:43I mean, that's nothing when it used to be 40 seconds when they were
- 1:44:47cheating, you mean balancer performance.
- 1:44:49So that race saw a number of DNFs.
- 1:44:52I didn't watch the race.
- 1:44:53So don't even know exactly.
- 1:44:55Both Ferraris ended up out, both Williams ended up out Perez ended up out.
- 1:45:00It rained, so I think maybe at least Charles perhaps got
- 1:45:03sent out on the wrong tires.
- 1:45:04I don't know, at any rate.
- 1:45:05Such is life in Formula One.
- 1:45:07More to come though, but then they go on break in August, right?
- 1:45:09There's like no racing in August, and then they're back in the fall.
- 1:45:13It's like a triple header in Europe, so I think they go Spain,
- 1:45:16Austria, and then Silverstone.
- 1:45:19And then there's a bit of a break, end of July, they're in Hungary.
- 1:45:23And then once they've gone through Spa, then there's kind of the
- 1:45:27month break before the next race.
- 1:45:29Is that what it is?
- 1:45:30I'm worked in Holland.
- 1:45:32Yeah.
- 1:45:32Well, we'll keep up with all that stuff as we go along.
- 1:45:35I am still getting caught up on stuff.
- 1:45:38I talked about it a little bit the last time just to give you
- 1:45:40guys a pulse on what's going on.
- 1:45:42There's tons of action in this year, which is actually pretty cool.
- 1:45:46And like I said before, it's.
- 1:45:48When and not if TK wrecks.
- 1:45:50So I'm always looking forward to that at every stage.
- 1:45:52That said, we already covered WEC news IMSA this past weekend.
- 1:45:57If you're listening to this on Tuesday, when it airs, there was the Watkins
- 1:46:01Glen, Salem six hours, which is one of our favorite races to be at.
- 1:46:05And there was also some activity in mid Ohio going on as well.
- 1:46:09And so lots of action in the IMSA world, lots more to come on
- 1:46:12the IMSA schedule, hoping to get out to an IMSA race this year.
- 1:46:15That isn't just petite Lamar.
- 1:46:17That's coming up in October, but in that same world, there is a sort of
- 1:46:21adjacent event to the 24 hours of Lamont.
- 1:46:24There's the last in person evening with a legend event, which is
- 1:46:28going to be blown away to that's in San Diego on August the 24th.
- 1:46:33It's going to be a three hour tour starting from the San Diego
- 1:46:36yacht club on the American.
- 1:46:37Because cup sailing yacht with a plated dinner and a chance
- 1:46:40to chat with legends of Lamar.
- 1:46:42So if you check out the show notes, you can see all the details about
- 1:46:45that event and how you can register.
- 1:46:46There's still plenty of seats at the table available for that event.
- 1:46:49I'm going to be there as the host for evening with the legend.
- 1:46:52It's sort of appropriate that I'm there for an evening with a legend event.
- 1:46:55And we actually added another Evening with a Legend guest at the
- 1:46:59last minute for the month of June.
- 1:47:00You can sign up to come and listen to Rob Dyson, that's team principal of Dyson
- 1:47:05Racing, and you might be familiar with the Dyson Porsches, who's going to come
- 1:47:09on and tell about not only his personal attempt at Le Mans in 87, Behind the wheel
- 1:47:13of a Porsche 956, but all the subsequent returns that they've had with Dyson
- 1:47:18racing to Lamar over the last 40 years.
- 1:47:21So really excited to be behind the mic with Rob Dyson.
- 1:47:24And then in August, we've locked in Andy Pilgrim.
- 1:47:29Who's going to come back and talk about his times at Lamar behind the wheel of
- 1:47:32Corvettes and Porsches and other cars.
- 1:47:34He's been on the Lamar podium many times great guy and great driver and
- 1:47:37we've had him on the show in the past.
- 1:47:38So check out his previous episode and I'm not going to spoil some
- 1:47:41of the other guests that are coming on the rest of the year.
- 1:47:43But those two are coming up real soon here in the summer.
- 1:47:46So look forward to more information on the Evening with a Legend series.
- 1:47:50That said our Motorsports News is brought to us in partnership with the
- 1:47:52International Motor Racing Research Center coming up in September.

- 1:48:23I'm looking forward to being there again this year with the team from
- 1:48:26the IMRRC live streaming the event.
- 1:48:28I believe we're going to have 20 different speakers.
- 1:48:30I just got word of who the keynote speaker is going to be.
- 1:48:33So I'm looking forward to seeing them in the fall.
- 1:48:36And I don't want to spoil it just yet because it's not public information.
- 1:48:39We're still trying to nail down all those details, but the cast of characters.
- 1:48:44And conversations this year are going to be really, really good.
- 1:48:47I'm also looking forward to John Summers, the motoring historian presenting at the
- 1:48:52Argus Singer Symposium again this year.
