- 0:43Speaker 5: Hang on? Hang on?
- 0:47Speaker 6: Okay, I can kind of see why wins.
- 0:50Speaker 7: And Matt Flynn.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Okay, we go where the.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Plays get broken down, then science gets denied. Our two
- 0:57Speaker 1: of Off the Bench Live from the mers been so
- 1:00Speaker 1: Baton Rouge Studio. There it starts.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Now, Yeah, it's a banger too.
- 1:07Speaker 5: I love this song.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Let's get into a little big deal or no big deal.
- 1:16Speaker 6: A big deal, no big deal, big deal, no big deal,
- 1:21Speaker 6: big deal, no big deal, no big deal.
- 1:25Speaker 8: No big deal, a big deal.
- 1:29Speaker 4: All right, a little refreshment here?
- 1:31Speaker 9: Is this the segment that when you started with hanging
- 1:33Speaker 9: a head A big deal and no deal.
- 1:35Speaker 3: I called it a big deal or no deal, and
- 1:38Speaker 3: I was like, this doesn't make any So what.
- 1:39Speaker 4: What did I call it? Because you made me change
- 1:41Speaker 4: the name of it.
- 1:42Speaker 2: You called it a big deal or no deal.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Yeah it was.
- 1:45Speaker 3: It was it was a big deal or no deal,
- 1:47Speaker 3: and you were like, I don't like that, and so
- 1:49Speaker 3: we changed it to big deal or no big deal.
- 1:51Speaker 4: You changed. The best part.
- 1:53Speaker 3: About this is this is a segment that you and
- 1:55Speaker 3: I did when we started radio together. You change a
- 1:58Speaker 3: name and then like, as we're coming back into this segment,
- 2:01Speaker 3: you're like, I got to come.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Up with one of these. Yes, until we've always done
- 2:05Speaker 4: the segment, you.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Would tell your co host what we're doing.
- 2:09Speaker 4: We've we've done it for seven years.
- 2:12Speaker 9: B wrong when we can bat sign that I did it, well,
- 2:18Speaker 9: I don't care about you.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I'm saying we started this and then we've done it
- 2:21Speaker 3: on the show here before.
- 2:22Speaker 4: This is okay.
- 2:23Speaker 2: This segment is best communication.
- 2:25Speaker 4: This segment. Just say you're not prepared this segment.
- 2:29Speaker 3: This segment is for sports topics yep, that are relevant
- 2:35Speaker 3: but maybe not relevant to hear as much, but they're
- 2:38Speaker 3: certainly relevant in the sports world. So we're not going
- 2:42Speaker 3: to spend a full segment on them, but we're gonna
- 2:45Speaker 3: spend some time on them.
- 2:47Speaker 2: That's what I got.
- 2:48Speaker 4: That's why this was put in.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Like the New York Knicks firing Tom Thibodeau after their
- 2:53Speaker 3: best run in the last twenty five years and they
- 2:57Speaker 3: fire their head coach.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Is that a big deal or no big deal?
- 3:04Speaker 2: That's a huge deal.
- 3:06Speaker 4: It's not one of the options.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Okay, that's a big deal.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 3:10Speaker 2: You don't want to rename it again?
- 3:12Speaker 4: No, I don't stop.
- 3:13Speaker 9: Uh yeah, because it is kind of wild to me
- 3:17Speaker 9: thinking about it. For what twenty five years, they've been
- 3:22Speaker 9: ultra irrelevant and so this coach comes in and gets
- 3:26Speaker 9: them to a place that maybe they're not fulfilling like
- 3:29Speaker 9: what they should.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Well, they show their roster, I mean, because he's led
- 3:33Speaker 3: the Knicks to back to back fifty win seasons for
- 3:35Speaker 3: the first time since nineteen ninety five.
- 3:37Speaker 9: Right, Okay, So maybe I'll say that a different way.
- 3:40Speaker 9: Maybe he didn't fulfill like what the potential could be.
- 3:43Speaker 9: Maybe the front office thinks he's not getting what But
- 3:46Speaker 9: I think it's a little short sighted to say, like, look,
- 3:48Speaker 9: we've been for twenty five years and this is the
- 3:50Speaker 9: dude that has gotten.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Us to the point where we have this potential. So yeah,
- 3:54Speaker 2: big deal.
- 3:56Speaker 8: I mean that's a huge deal. And saw something the
- 3:58Speaker 8: other day, I'm Thibodeaux. Twenty four playoff wins with the Knicks.
- 4:04Speaker 8: Every other coach combined in the last twenty years seven.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Playoffs, solid solid, Oh and it all.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Came from Mike Woodson.
- 4:10Speaker 4: So Woods and seven Woodson?
- 4:12Speaker 2: What's in seven tiboo?
- 4:14Speaker 8: Twenty four? Every other coach the last twenty years and
- 4:16Speaker 8: no playoff?
- 4:17Speaker 4: What Mike Woodson? I have not heard that name in
- 4:19Speaker 4: the long Is he still coaching Indiana?
- 4:21Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 4:22Speaker 4: They probably not.
- 4:23Speaker 3: No, Indiana got a new coach, uh Elandra.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Is that a big deal or no big deal? The
- 4:28Speaker 4: Nicks fire Tom Thibodeau.
- 4:30Speaker 5: I think it's a big deal.
- 4:31Speaker 6: This is somebody who doesn't really pay attention to the
- 4:34Speaker 6: NBA too much, y'all know.
- 4:36Speaker 5: I just pay attention to.
- 4:38Speaker 6: Spurs and then when the Luca trade whatever. But I
- 4:40Speaker 6: think it's a big deal because you made a great run.
- 4:43Speaker 6: So what are you firing him for?
- 4:45Speaker 3: Makes no Stanse like you look at the last couple
- 4:48Speaker 3: of NBA champions. The Bucks have done this. The Nuggets
- 4:50Speaker 3: have done this, Like it's like if you win a championship,
- 4:52Speaker 3: they don't even care y, like move on from you
- 4:54Speaker 3: so quickly.
- 4:55Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 6: But also like, haven't the again, I don't know, haven't
- 4:58Speaker 6: the Knicks like historically been not great for the Yeah?
- 5:03Speaker 6: So then your your coach brings you to the conference.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Finals first time, winning fifty games in back to back
- 5:10Speaker 3: years since ninety five?
- 5:12Speaker 4: Yeah, were y' all born.
- 5:14Speaker 2: In ninety five?
- 5:14Speaker 4: No, I was born in ninety six and y'all worn Yeah,
- 5:18Speaker 4: think how much y'all have lived? Oh yeah, well time
- 5:22Speaker 4: it happened.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Yeah, So I think that's a huge deal.
- 5:24Speaker 6: Why are you firing your coach that brought you further
- 5:27Speaker 6: than you've been since nineteen ninety five?
- 5:29Speaker 9: There's a problem with in sports and really I guess anything,
- 5:34Speaker 9: but in sports, the people in charge sometimes that aren't
- 5:40Speaker 9: boots on the ground there every day that make decisions.
- 5:44Speaker 9: Sometimes they make decisions based on like stats and putting
- 5:47Speaker 9: stuff thrown stuff against the board and saying, all right,
- 5:50Speaker 9: we got a great team, would we be better off
- 5:52Speaker 9: with this this or this coach than our current coach?
- 5:55Speaker 9: Like could that get this team over the ear? Without
- 5:59Speaker 9: thinking about the relationship that that guy that that coach
- 6:02Speaker 9: has with the players, the everything that he's built there,
- 6:07Speaker 9: that's like his program. They tend to think it happens
- 6:11Speaker 9: a lot like are we better with this player instead
- 6:13Speaker 9: of this player? Not really thinking about what that player
- 6:17Speaker 9: or coach means, doubt everything else operates.
- 6:21Speaker 2: So I mean, that's again I wonder. I'm with you.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I'm not a basketball gay, but that's a stupid movie.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree, and I know it is in vogue
- 6:29Speaker 3: to do that in the NBA. Still does not make
- 6:31Speaker 3: sense to me. And the Knicks will be worthless and
- 6:34Speaker 3: they'll be relevant because of the next the Knicks.
- 6:37Speaker 4: But they'll be irrelevant when it comes to winning games.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Back to the status quo. Let's go not only that
- 6:42Speaker 2: like the best players.
- 6:43Speaker 8: Jayalen Brunson, the assistant coach for the Knicks is Rick
- 6:47Speaker 8: Brunson under Tom Thibodeau. Jalen Brunson after the game said
- 6:51Speaker 8: he wanted Thibodeau back. Like what's Rick Brunson's future? How
- 6:55Speaker 8: does Jaylen Brunson feel about that? Like this is this
- 6:58Speaker 8: is not good And maybe they think Tibetou can only
- 7:01Speaker 8: take us to the conference finals and that's as far
- 7:03Speaker 8: as we can get damn sure, you get somebody better, though.
- 7:06Speaker 9: What's a dumber move firing this guy or the GM
- 7:08Speaker 9: trading Luca.
- 7:10Speaker 4: It's a two pretty dumb moves, GM trading Lucas.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I think, yeah, both pretty bad.
- 7:15Speaker 3: He got a bag of boiled peanuts in return. So yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with that one. But both are pretty bad.
- 7:21Speaker 4: All right? Are you ready?
- 7:22Speaker 2: I got one?
- 7:23Speaker 4: All right, let's go.
- 7:23Speaker 9: It's not a big deal. You didn't tell me anything
- 7:26Speaker 9: about the show until right now, but.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 7:28Speaker 3: It is on the rundown at six big deals or
- 7:31Speaker 3: no big deal.
- 7:33Speaker 9: The Saints currently are plus four to twenty five to
- 7:37Speaker 9: make the playoffs. The Pacers are currently plus five hundred
- 7:42Speaker 9: to win NBA championship in this series that they're yeah, yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 9: So is it a big deal that the Saints have
- 7:49Speaker 9: a better betting record to make the playoffs and the
- 7:52Speaker 9: Pacers do to win the current NBA.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I actually think that's a huge deal. Like you would say,
- 7:59Speaker 3: that's a very big deal. I would like if my
- 8:03Speaker 3: money is on the line here, I would much rather
- 8:06Speaker 3: give it to the Pacers and a series are already
- 8:09Speaker 3: in and the way they've been playing in this postseason,
- 8:12Speaker 3: the way they've come back like ninety seven times from
- 8:15Speaker 3: these scores that nobody's supposed to come back from before
- 8:19Speaker 3: the Saints make the playoffs.
- 8:21Speaker 9: Right, it's seventy five dollars difference too, plus four twenty five.
- 8:25Speaker 3: I mean that that's actually pretty wild. I that's one
- 8:29Speaker 3: of those deals where I hope I'm wrong. But as
- 8:31Speaker 3: we're sitting there talking to Ross, I'm looking at the
- 8:33Speaker 3: Saint's depth chart and I'm like, oh, ooh, ooh, they
- 8:36Speaker 3: got some holes there, man.
- 8:37Speaker 4: And the roster it's thin.
- 8:39Speaker 3: It's it's got some it does have some juice to it,
- 8:42Speaker 3: but it's so thin.
- 8:43Speaker 4: If you hear a couple of injuries away from just
- 8:46Speaker 4: total tank mode.
- 8:47Speaker 2: And I get it. Like the Pacers are fighting uphill.
- 8:49Speaker 9: They're playing a team that's got one of the best,
- 8:50Speaker 9: like the greatest records of all time in the NBA.
- 8:54Speaker 9: It's an all time like team they're playing right now.
- 8:58Speaker 3: But plus five hundred, I'm actually going to go bet that, yeah,
- 9:03Speaker 3: right right, that little shocking going to bet that breaking
- 9:06Speaker 3: everybody everybody in here, Yeah you are everybody in here,
- 9:10Speaker 3: everybody in here, and that's that's Pacers to win the series.
- 9:14Speaker 4: So that's kind of been twenty five bucks.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Okay, all right, we're good.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:19Speaker 8: It bothers me, Like we were talking about this when
- 9:21Speaker 8: the playoffs started. Everybody's like, oh, the Pacers came out
- 9:24Speaker 8: of nowhere. They were in the conference finals last year's year.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Like they're not.
- 9:28Speaker 8: They're not out of nowhere. You have a bona fide
- 9:30Speaker 8: superstar and Halliburton. This is a young team. They can
- 9:33Speaker 8: do everything. Like nobody's giving them a chance against Okay,
- 9:35Speaker 8: see it's wild.
- 9:37Speaker 9: So their best player, Halliburton, yep, PACER's best player didn't
- 9:43Speaker 9: didn't make the awesome team.
- 9:45Speaker 5: That's crazy.
- 9:47Speaker 8: Also, like we didn't talk about this, Why are.
- 9:49Speaker 5: We disrespecting the Pacers.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Right, well we didn't. We didn't talk about this.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Well me, No, the wolf Pack's not yeah a wolf pag.
- 9:57Speaker 4: I just put twenty five dollars win.
- 10:00Speaker 8: We'll pack that thought about putting this in weekend winners
- 10:03Speaker 8: that we did on Monday. Tyree's Hullaburton, I mean we
- 10:06Speaker 8: talked about his historical triple double where he had like
- 10:08Speaker 8: fifteen assists, no turnovers whatever. Was not the m v
- 10:12Speaker 8: P of the Eastern Conference Finals. No, it missed about
- 10:14Speaker 8: what one one vote was great?
- 10:17Speaker 4: Did take over one game?
- 10:19Speaker 7: He did.
- 10:19Speaker 10: He had a couple of thirty point games, but like,
- 10:21Speaker 10: I mean, Albert was almost going to be a weekend
- 10:23Speaker 10: loser for me. For that clip of him walking up
- 10:26Speaker 10: when they announced that, all right, this guy walking up
- 10:35Speaker 10: in fairness like the camera guys wanted.
- 10:37Speaker 8: Because the camera guys like, all right, he's winning it,
- 10:39Speaker 8: so they zoom in on him.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Not a good look. He played it off right, he
- 10:45Speaker 5: was like, I was just stretching, bro.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I did like his big nuts, big nuts celebrations.
- 10:51Speaker 8: What celebration celebration clip, It's like, yeah, whoa the Asian
- 10:58Speaker 8: guy on Major League too, he did the same.
- 11:00Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah exactly, So my bad too big of a pause, No, no.
- 11:05Speaker 11: No.
- 11:08Speaker 5: It, Ladra A big dealer, no big deal.
- 11:11Speaker 6: We haven't talked about this yet, so I'll give a
- 11:13Speaker 6: little bit of context behind the big dealer, no big deal.
- 11:16Speaker 6: So actually, maybe there's two in one. So Oklahoma is
- 11:21Speaker 6: out of the Women's College World Series for the first
- 11:24Speaker 6: time since twenty twenty. The boy yeah exactly, And then
- 11:27Speaker 6: before twenty twenty, they were the chants like twenty sixteen
- 11:32Speaker 6: to twenty nineteen. So They're just like a ridiculously good program, right,
- 11:35Speaker 6: Patty Gasso is out there making history and stuff.
- 11:39Speaker 5: Texas Tech knocks them.
- 11:40Speaker 6: Out of the Women's College World Series with their million
- 11:45Speaker 6: dollar pitcher, Kennedy. So last night they're playing Texas in
- 11:51Speaker 6: the finals and Kennedy is asked to walk Reese Atwood,
- 11:58Speaker 6: their catcher. She throws them a little too much in
- 12:01Speaker 6: the zone. Count is three zero, and Atwood just goes
- 12:06Speaker 6: for it and she knocks in the time run and
- 12:10Speaker 6: the run for the lead. So Texas Tech loses that game.
- 12:15Speaker 6: Kennedy owns up to it. She's like, that's on me.
- 12:17Speaker 6: I couldn't throw a ball whatever, So big dealer, no
- 12:20Speaker 6: big deal. The million dollar pitcher, Yeah, make it a
- 12:24Speaker 6: little oopsie.
- 12:26Speaker 3: She is a incredible She's pitched every inning for them, yeah,
- 12:30Speaker 3: in the College World Series. But it's a big deal
- 12:34Speaker 3: because they were trying to put her own base. The
- 12:37Speaker 3: catchers standing up, throw a ball. It's three to zero,
- 12:41Speaker 3: and that's the hit that loses you the game because
- 12:44Speaker 3: you couldn't throw a ball, you throw two hit a
- 12:47Speaker 3: ble too good of a kitch when you're trying to
- 12:49Speaker 3: intentional walk one of their better hitters. It was a
- 12:52Speaker 3: wild scene and credit to her for being locked in
- 12:54Speaker 3: and ready to hit.
- 12:56Speaker 4: I mean it is.
- 12:57Speaker 6: Well, so they asked Reese, well, they asked both of
- 13:00Speaker 6: them after the game obviously what happened there, and Reese
- 13:03Speaker 6: was like, I knew.
- 13:04Speaker 5: That they were intentionally trying to walk me.
- 13:06Speaker 6: She was zero for ten in the tournament so far,
- 13:08Speaker 6: Reese Atwood was and she was just she said that
- 13:12Speaker 6: she was just watching the pitches and she was like, okay,
- 13:14Speaker 6: I got to make a play for my team here.
- 13:16Speaker 6: So that last three to zero pitch she went out
- 13:18Speaker 6: and she got it, and she did. She made the
- 13:19Speaker 6: play for her team. They went up to one after that.
- 13:23Speaker 3: So it probably would have been a hit anyways. But
- 13:26Speaker 3: you can tell, like, yeah, obviously Texas Tech was flat footed. Yeah,
- 13:29Speaker 3: you get catcher standing up and you're thinking, oh, they're
- 13:31Speaker 3: about to walk her.
- 13:32Speaker 2: So they in softbare they got to pitch it, like
- 13:34Speaker 2: they actually got to throw them. Yeah, the four balls.
- 13:37Speaker 5: Yeah yeah wait what do you mean.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Well like in baseball?
- 13:41Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, okay, yeah yeah yeah yeah.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Yeah man, yeah, that's a big deal. Uh, that's the game.
- 13:47Speaker 4: I'll be talking about that game a lot later on
- 13:49Speaker 4: this afternoon.
- 13:50Speaker 6: So, well, I mean, it's just crazy that Oklahoma gets
- 13:54Speaker 6: knocked out of it, but from one person. Well, like
- 13:56Speaker 6: Texas beat them Saturday and then Tech beat them I
- 14:01Speaker 6: think it was Monday. So just crazy that that program's
- 14:05Speaker 6: not winning another Natty.
- 14:07Speaker 5: That's all they do is I.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Know in Texas has been in that Championship Series for
- 14:11Speaker 3: you know, many of those losses to Oklahoma. So this
- 14:14Speaker 3: for them is getting over at that Oklahoma home. Yeah
- 14:17Speaker 3: all right, Tata.
- 14:19Speaker 8: Well before we before we get to mind, like that
- 14:21Speaker 8: million dollar pitcher, I'm actually at home yesterday.
- 14:24Speaker 2: They're doing a story on her.
- 14:26Speaker 8: So I think her total like in IL things like
- 14:28Speaker 8: one point three one point four yep, previous high softball
- 14:32Speaker 8: nil deal was one hundred and seventy five thousand dollars.
- 14:35Speaker 8: That's crazy versus one point four million.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yep.
- 14:38Speaker 6: Well, like she single handedly took two teams to the
- 14:41Speaker 6: Women's College World Series, Like she was a Stanford last
- 14:44Speaker 6: year yep, Eli, she faced her.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Stanford was not great, their lineup was not great at all,
- 14:50Speaker 3: and they got there.
- 14:51Speaker 5: Because of her.
- 14:52Speaker 6: I could say the same thing for Texas Tech, like
- 14:55Speaker 6: they're not bad, but she's like their biggest Yeah. Oh yeah,
- 15:02Speaker 6: any team that has Kennedy's that's their biggest weapon.
- 15:05Speaker 5: But it's just insane. She took two teams there.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Yep, right.
- 15:10Speaker 8: The twenty twenty five FPI for college football, like National
- 15:14Speaker 8: Championship bods, came out yesterday. The Tigers have a thirty
- 15:19Speaker 8: point three percent chance of making the playoffs. They have
- 15:22Speaker 8: a one point eight percent chance of making the National championship,
- 15:26Speaker 8: and according to FBI projected wins, seven point nine wins
- 15:30Speaker 8: for the Tigers, A big dealer, new big deal. It's
- 15:36Speaker 8: a big deal because those numbers are low and they've
- 15:39Speaker 8: gotten lower.
- 15:41Speaker 4: And there was some teams on that.
- 15:43Speaker 3: List because I talked about this yesterday that were highly surprising.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Tennessee is higher on that list than LSU. Tennessee's odds
- 15:53Speaker 4: are better. Nico im Maliaba is no longer there.
- 15:57Speaker 3: He's at UCLA, right, and Aguilar comes in from UCLA.
- 16:02Speaker 3: He's not the same quarterback. I mean, Nico still had
- 16:05Speaker 3: some struggles last year. You lose Pierce, you lose the
- 16:09Speaker 3: SEC offensive player of the year at running back. Tennessee
- 16:13Speaker 3: being that high on that list was highly surprising. Like
- 16:17Speaker 3: I would have LSU more in the range of where
- 16:20Speaker 3: Clemson and Miami are than where they're at. So I
- 16:23Speaker 3: say it's a big deal just because I think more
- 16:26Speaker 3: of LSU than seven point nine wins and one point
- 16:30Speaker 3: eight percent chance to win a champion.
- 16:32Speaker 2: A ten point nine wins. Yeah, you said to make
- 16:36Speaker 2: the playoffs, so give it. So give it.
- 16:38Speaker 9: What Jake just said, what's Clemson?
- 16:41Speaker 3: Clemson nine point seven wins, forty seven point three percent
- 16:44Speaker 3: chance to make the playoff and three point eight percent
- 16:47Speaker 3: chance to win the championship in Miami's very similar.
- 16:50Speaker 9: I would say this is no big deal because this
- 16:52Speaker 9: sounds like a really dumb list.
- 16:54Speaker 4: It is Texas, right again, whoever.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Wrote this list and carout with these stats get trash well.
- 16:59Speaker 8: Tex favorites to win the national title like arch Manning
- 17:05Speaker 8: might be good hasn't started yet. The ridiculous that's the
- 17:09Speaker 8: FBI for you.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Yeah, the Texas stuff is something I certainly want to
- 17:13Speaker 3: get into with Flynn because you've got a quarterback in
- 17:18Speaker 3: Arch Manning who we've talked about for four or five
- 17:21Speaker 3: years now and he is still yet to be the
- 17:24Speaker 3: full time starter. And Texas is one of the teams
- 17:27Speaker 3: with the best national championship odds, but there's still so
- 17:29Speaker 3: much to prove for him for them too.
- 17:33Speaker 4: I mean they lost a lot.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Now they got some guys coming back, and so I
- 17:37Speaker 3: think Texas going to be right there in the fould.
- 17:39Speaker 3: And I think a lot of Steve Sarkisian. I think
- 17:40Speaker 3: he's a top three play caller in the country. I
- 17:43Speaker 3: mean what he does pre snap, it's like window dressing,
- 17:46Speaker 3: but with a purpose.
- 17:47Speaker 4: I love it.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Like he he is going to know what you're doing
- 17:50Speaker 3: before you know the ball snap. But I don't know, man,
- 17:54Speaker 3: when you've got as many returning quarterbacks as we have
- 17:57Speaker 3: in the country and the top three teams right now,
- 18:00Speaker 3: actually top four teams in the FBI, Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama,
- 18:05Speaker 3: we don't know anything about what they're going to be
- 18:08Speaker 3: at quarterback.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Like its look good, arches look good.
- 18:14Speaker 9: It's almost unfair, like the expectations, But you want to
- 18:17Speaker 9: be at the position where you have expectations put on you.
- 18:20Speaker 8: Yeah, I hope they're not good because Ulsu plays them
- 18:23Speaker 8: in the opener. But like we know what Clubnick is,
- 18:26Speaker 8: we don't know what arches. If they're top three receivers
- 18:29Speaker 8: back from a year ago through at a weaker conference,
- 18:31Speaker 8: Texas has none of those things.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah, look when you look at the FBI and actually,
- 18:36Speaker 3: let's do this. Let's take a break, we'll come back.
- 18:39Speaker 3: We'll look at some of these teams that are in
- 18:40Speaker 3: Here is a nice one by Ta Tay to pull
- 18:42Speaker 3: this one up, because there's some returning quarterbacks that aren't
- 18:45Speaker 3: getting near the love leading their team as some of
- 18:48Speaker 3: these first time starting quarterbacks. And we'll break it all
- 18:50Speaker 3: down here on o tvpter bench. I go to Pelicanroof
- 18:55Speaker 3: dot compelicanroof dot com, where you can get that instant
- 18:57Speaker 3: roof quote right there on the homepage the website. I mean,
- 19:00Speaker 3: you put in your address and it's going to Google
- 19:02Speaker 3: map it. It's going to get an outline of your
- 19:03Speaker 3: roof and give you an idea of what it is
- 19:05Speaker 3: going to cost you. Just an incredible tool they have
- 19:08Speaker 3: there on the homepage. I was actually taking my daughter
- 19:11Speaker 3: Harlowe on a walk last night kind of late evening.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Man Pelican Roof was still hard at work in our
- 19:16Speaker 3: neighborhood and it was so cool because you know, I
- 19:19Speaker 3: saw the Pelican Roof flag that they were working there,
- 19:22Speaker 3: and everything was like in order, like as they're working
- 19:25Speaker 3: on the roof, like everything was still like cleaned up
- 19:28Speaker 3: and kept tight. You know, stuff wasn't everywhere and making
- 19:31Speaker 3: this big mess. And that's just like a great example.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Almost took a picture. I was like, I don't want
- 19:36Speaker 3: to mean, why this gotta take a picture of my
- 19:37Speaker 3: house so I could talk about it on the radio.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I mean, that's just the kind of service you're gonna
- 19:41Speaker 3: get pelicanroof dot com here.
- 19:42Speaker 9: Yeah, that means they take pride in what they do.
- 19:44Speaker 9: They take pride in their job. They operate with integrity
- 19:46Speaker 9: and that's at the core of everything they do. So
- 19:49Speaker 9: if you need to get your roof checked out, go
- 19:51Speaker 9: to pelicanroof dot Com.
- 20:00Speaker 7: Two thousand and seven.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Champs Purple and Gold to the core. This is off
- 20:16Speaker 1: the Bench with Hester and Flynn Baton Rougees go to
- 20:19Speaker 1: for all things Louisiana Sports.

- 20:31Speaker 4: Tell the people about something while I confirm with.
- 20:33Speaker 9: Jay, Hey can we get that clip of gold number
- 20:37Speaker 9: saying that? So every time that what they call it
- 20:42Speaker 9: the rejoin everything that rejoined good love good.
- 20:49Speaker 3: We also gotta play the Scratch of Cats video at
- 20:51Speaker 3: some point today we forget.
- 20:52Speaker 9: That the other day, Hey, welcome back. Like the fact
- 21:01Speaker 9: that it's real to I think that's the first time
- 21:03Speaker 9: I've ever heard you do a voice of any type.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Besides like Jim voice Jim on that one that in Australia.
- 21:13Speaker 4: I don't I don't remember why.
- 21:14Speaker 2: The one you just did, though, is most like committed
- 21:16Speaker 2: i've ever heard.
- 21:17Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, that that was do like a radio voice,
- 21:20Speaker 6: like an exaggerated.
- 21:21Speaker 4: I did do that.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Yeah, the big guy you should sit over here was
- 21:24Speaker 3: pretty uh, you know, I'm pretty good at doing those,
- 21:27Speaker 3: and he you know, he did them often as well.
- 21:29Speaker 9: There's a couple of real life people that do big
- 21:31Speaker 9: time radio voice.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Hey, welcome back in oh TV here on one four five, ESPN,
- 21:37Speaker 3: Baton Rouge coming to you a lot from the Mercedes
- 21:40Speaker 3: Bens and Baton Rouge studios.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Like that at a triangle desk.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Well, okay, that was terrible, by the way, that's not bad.
- 21:49Speaker 4: That was so low energy.
- 21:50Speaker 3: It was that a triangle desk you I don't know,
- 21:55Speaker 3: you don't have it.
- 21:55Speaker 4: You know you didn't listen to Casey case I'm growing
- 21:59Speaker 4: up and it shows are.
- 22:01Speaker 2: You kidding me?
- 22:01Speaker 4: Does sound like it?
- 22:02Speaker 2: I still listen to?
- 22:03Speaker 4: Does it sound like it?
- 22:05Speaker 2: There is a radio.
- 22:09Speaker 5: It just means you can't be fake.
- 22:11Speaker 9: It's right, it's kind of like that picture. Can't can't
- 22:13Speaker 9: throw a ball, she can't throw a sorry, coach, let
- 22:17Speaker 9: me me strike this person out.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Yeah, but I do. I do redneck all the time.
- 22:22Speaker 2: That is true. But that's that's kind of easy though.
- 22:26Speaker 2: It is.
- 22:27Speaker 4: It's in the wheelhouse.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I so fella.
- 22:30Speaker 9: Yeah, they were were they were kind of calling us
- 22:33Speaker 9: a little bit of redneck in the huddle.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I keep on the dhot everybody.
- 22:39Speaker 9: I was like, yeah, we're we are concrete rednecks.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Who was calling us that?
- 22:44Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 22:45Speaker 9: It was a while back, I mean earlier. It is
- 22:48Speaker 9: a term that you're like, we had no disrespect. Now
- 22:51Speaker 9: we are who we are, but we are concrete redneck.
- 22:54Speaker 9: Is the is the term because you know, you know,
- 22:58Speaker 9: we like our amenities every now and then.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but it is, but you do do it well.
- 23:05Speaker 2: But that voice that you just did with the with
- 23:07Speaker 2: the gigam pretty good.
- 23:08Speaker 4: Okay, thank you.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I don't even think now.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I mean because I told Jay we'd come to him
- 23:15Speaker 4: like seven eight minutes. Yeah, let's yeah, all right.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Now there's a bunch. I just picked one.
- 23:19Speaker 4: I don't They're all going to be great.
- 23:21Speaker 11: I'm going to Texas Christy University.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Mine day, and I'm going to Texas Christion University.
- 23:29Speaker 5: How much I'm going to say, I'm Julian.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I'm going to Ally Christian, scratch your cat.
- 23:36Speaker 7: I'm Jillian.
- 23:37Speaker 4: I'm going to Alley Christian, scratch your cat.
- 23:40Speaker 5: Claire Jenson and I'm going to.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Be why you, La Jenson And I'm going to be
- 23:45Speaker 4: why you.
- 23:47Speaker 5: I'm Sidney Person.
- 23:48Speaker 6: I'm going Texas at University.
- 23:51Speaker 10: I'm Chimney Person and I'm going to Texa Tech University.
- 23:55Speaker 1: How many I'm going to Louisiana say Anniversity, Go Tigers.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Litters using the state university, Go caucas Go caucas.
- 24:08Speaker 5: The gigaboo was so accurate.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I mean.
- 24:13Speaker 4: So Texas A and M.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Shout out to the the Abilene Christian in the midst
- 24:18Speaker 3: of an M and Texas Tech and l s U.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Cat I mean wow, scratch them capes.
- 24:31Speaker 4: That's what she said.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Uh oh man.
- 24:38Speaker 8: Have bad like Sayan's like okay, Like Arizona, the University
- 24:42Speaker 8: of Arizona, the Wildcats on their football field says beared down.
- 24:47Speaker 8: They are the Wildcats.
- 24:48Speaker 3: I just don't bear down. Well, there's a lot of
- 24:52Speaker 3: people that identity crisis. I mean Auburn, like we don't
- 24:54Speaker 3: question Auburn as much I do. It's a great place
- 24:58Speaker 3: to play, though, I actually think for me, for my money,
- 25:03Speaker 3: outside of Tiger Stadium, I think it's the loudest I've
- 25:08Speaker 3: ever played in.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Jordan Harri Cane get loud.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm trying to think an.
- 25:14Speaker 4: Four o four that weird. Like Ronnie Prude got called
- 25:19Speaker 4: for leaping?
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, what what is that?
- 25:22Speaker 4: You know it is?
- 25:23Speaker 3: So they tie the game, they go to kick the
- 25:26Speaker 3: extra point, they miss it. But Ronnie Prude, the only
- 25:29Speaker 3: time I ever heard it ever got a call for leaping.
- 25:32Speaker 4: They get a chance to rekick it ten to nine.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Maybe because an extra point.
- 25:36Speaker 3: And then we had like a Chris Jackson, right I think,
- 25:39Speaker 3: So it wasn't Chris Jackson.
- 25:42Speaker 4: You were holding?
- 25:43Speaker 2: I was holding? Was it your fault? I mean yeah,
- 25:46Speaker 2: I was Who was it? Four year starter?
- 25:48Speaker 4: I mean, it doesn't matter. I mean, I can go
- 25:50Speaker 4: look it up or you can just tell me.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I believe it was Ryan Godey.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Okay, there you go, shout out Ryan gode and Sean
- 25:56Speaker 3: Godey kick. And then we had like a seven to
- 25:59Speaker 3: five or something there and six that was uh that
- 26:02Speaker 3: was Auburn.
- 26:03Speaker 9: Something like that was was four, the exavior Carter Neil.
- 26:09Speaker 4: That was Georgia.
- 26:09Speaker 2: That was Georgia. Okay, all right, that's.
- 26:11Speaker 3: The only time in my L s U football career
- 26:15Speaker 3: that it was so bad. And from the very get
- 26:19Speaker 3: go we knew it wasn't gonna go. Only fumbling my
- 26:23Speaker 3: career was in that game. It just wasn't right that day.
- 26:26Speaker 3: David Green could not miss in the corner. I don't
- 26:30Speaker 3: even remember what receiver he was throwing to. But whatever
- 26:33Speaker 3: the peak version of David Green was, you got it
- 26:35Speaker 3: that day in Athens.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Just firing it in about seven miles an hour.
- 26:41Speaker 9: Yeah, it's Tucker spun about three thousand times a second.
- 26:44Speaker 11: Though.
- 26:45Speaker 3: I mean they had, you know, David Pollack, like real
- 26:48Speaker 3: David Pollack before he got skinny. Uh Odell Thurman, who
- 26:52Speaker 3: was I believe, like in jail for something the week
- 26:56Speaker 3: before and then got out and played against us, and
- 26:58Speaker 3: he was like a grown man. Greg Bleue Thomas Davis
- 27:02Speaker 3: playing safety, a fifteen year middle linebacker in the NFL
- 27:06Speaker 3: safety plaid safety for Georgia. Yes, that's who made me
- 27:10Speaker 3: fight for Yes, he played safety.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I forgot about that.
- 27:13Speaker 4: I didn't.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Dude hit me, I was I broke a run like
- 27:18Speaker 3: I'm talking twenty yards, I'm out in the open. I'm like, man,
- 27:21Speaker 3: I'm gonna go set a tone on Thomas Davis. This
- 27:23Speaker 3: guy's an All American. I'm a freshman. That story ends.
- 27:27Speaker 2: You set the tone.
- 27:28Speaker 4: Thomas Davis won me nothing.
- 27:31Speaker 9: You didn't know, but in fairness, you didn't know he
- 27:34Speaker 9: was going to be like one of the best linebackers
- 27:37Speaker 9: in the NFL.
- 27:37Speaker 4: I had both hands on the ball the whole like
- 27:39Speaker 4: good not didn't matter.
- 27:41Speaker 2: He hit me.
- 27:41Speaker 4: That bog was about fifteen yards up in the air.
- 27:46Speaker 9: My mind is absolutely blown right now that Thomas Davis
- 27:49Speaker 9: played safety.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll find some highlights.
- 27:53Speaker 3: So but we do need to go to break because
- 27:56Speaker 3: when we come back, we're gonna be joined by the
- 27:59Speaker 3: head baseball coach the LSUE fighting Tigers.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Let's go Jay Johnson.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 28:05Speaker 2: All right.
- 28:05Speaker 3: We are super excited to tell you about Rowse's Obviously
- 28:08Speaker 3: we told you, I mean, Matt has a great relationship
- 28:11Speaker 3: with them.
- 28:11Speaker 4: There we do as well. Loved going in there.
- 28:14Speaker 3: And summer is here, and Rouses has you covered all
- 28:17Speaker 3: summer long.

- 28:24Speaker 3: of right bacon for just eight ninety nine.
- 28:27Speaker 4: And let's be honest, bacon makes everything better.
- 28:30Speaker 3: And if King Curtis once taught me anything is bacon
- 28:33Speaker 3: is good for me, Okay, it's gonna be good for
- 28:36Speaker 3: you as well. Go to Rouses. Check out all the
- 28:38Speaker 3: deals they've got going on right now.

- 29:12Speaker 1: Locked in on LSU football twenty four to seven. You're
- 29:15Speaker 1: listening to off the Bench.
- 29:19Speaker 4: All right, Dan, welcome back in.
- 29:20Speaker 3: It is otb here one O four to five, ESPN
- 29:22Speaker 3: Baton Rouge. And we were always excited every single Thursday
- 29:26Speaker 3: to catch up with the head coach of LSU baseball,
- 29:28Speaker 3: Jay Johnson, who joins US now.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Coach. Always appreciate the time. Hope you're doing well.
- 29:34Speaker 11: Doing great. How are you guys doing this morning?
- 29:36Speaker 4: Doing fantastic.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Man. We are so fired up to get a super
- 29:38Speaker 3: regional here in Baton Rouge. But before we go forward,
- 29:41Speaker 3: let's kind of look back to the regional and across
- 29:45Speaker 3: college baseball coach. I mean, there was teams that were
- 29:48Speaker 3: just fighting and scratching and clawing, and we saw like
- 29:52Speaker 3: historic upsets, and we saw four four seeds win on
- 29:55Speaker 3: opening day alone. There was some real competitive baseball coach
- 29:59Speaker 3: across the country, and you had some teams fighting in
- 30:02Speaker 3: some big, big venues and didn't back down.
- 30:06Speaker 11: Yeah, no doubt about it. I think it's one of
- 30:09Speaker 11: the things that makes baseball one of the most interesting,
- 30:13Speaker 11: intriguing sports, even though it moves slower than football and basketball.
- 30:18Speaker 11: Is it's in football and basketball, the talent advantage ninety
- 30:21Speaker 11: percent of the time is probably gonna went out, and
- 30:24Speaker 11: in baseball because of the pitcher, it's the team that
- 30:26Speaker 11: plays the best that day. And I think you saw
- 30:29Speaker 11: that in this NCAA tournament. I think seven hosts lost
- 30:32Speaker 11: or did not advance. And yeah, if everything screams baseball,
- 30:37Speaker 11: that's it. And we're fortunate that we played well and
- 30:42Speaker 11: we're able to advance out and really excited about what
- 30:45Speaker 11: we have coming this weekend.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Yeah, Coach in the box was electric all weekend long.
- 30:50Speaker 4: It was.
- 30:51Speaker 3: But I was there on Sunday night and the same
- 30:54Speaker 3: fans came back on Monday night and it was a
- 30:56Speaker 3: great atmosphere. And you made some changes coach to the
- 30:59Speaker 3: line up, and those paid off in a big way.
- 31:02Speaker 3: And Ethan Fry they're in the two hole. He gets
- 31:05Speaker 3: on base six times, four for four, a couple of doubles,
- 31:09Speaker 3: a home run. I mean, those changes worked out perfectly.
- 31:12Speaker 3: What went into the thought process of kind of switching
- 31:14Speaker 3: some things around with really the season on the line.
- 31:19Speaker 11: Yeah, I've been asked a lot about this, and we've
- 31:22Speaker 11: had a very good year in my opinion, very consistent offensively.
- 31:26Speaker 11: You know, I've always operated though that, you know, the
- 31:31Speaker 11: only day that matters is the one in front of you.
- 31:33Speaker 11: And when you're in a winter home winner, go home game,
- 31:36Speaker 11: championship game, elimination game, obviously you have a lot to
- 31:39Speaker 11: gain by taking some risks. And we did it in
- 31:42Speaker 11: the National Championship Game in twenty three. Shuffle in the
- 31:44Speaker 11: deck a little bit and obviously paid off, and just
- 31:48Speaker 11: kind of looking at where all the players were like today,
- 31:51Speaker 11: because I believe young players change day to day. We're
- 31:54Speaker 11: not major leaguers. They're not major leaguers, and you know,
- 31:57Speaker 11: given the circumstances of the game, how did we want
- 32:01Speaker 11: to set the lineup? He mentioned Ethan. I think he's
- 32:04Speaker 11: easily the hottest, in my opinion, one of the best
- 32:06Speaker 11: players in the country right now today. So I wanted
- 32:10Speaker 11: to get him to the plate as many times as
- 32:12Speaker 11: we could. He just got a good, slow heartbeat, very
- 32:15Speaker 11: mature player, in control of himself. And then Steven Mile
- 32:19Speaker 11: and put him behind him. He's taken the advat that
- 32:22Speaker 11: we believe he's capable of right now, and I wanted
- 32:26Speaker 11: to get those guys up as many times as we could.
- 32:28Speaker 11: Danny had hit a four or excuse me, hit a
- 32:30Speaker 11: couple home runs against Little Rock on Friday. They obviously
- 32:33Speaker 11: viewed him as a threat, thought Jake Brown was just
- 32:36Speaker 11: a good matchup for the pitcher, and then put in
- 32:38Speaker 11: Jared in the sixth hole. If those guys in front
- 32:40Speaker 11: of him did their job, you know, it might make
- 32:43Speaker 11: things a little bit easier on him where they they'd
- 32:45Speaker 11: almost lose track of him, forget about him. And obviously
- 32:48Speaker 11: he popped a big home run, you know, and then
- 32:51Speaker 11: obviously you know what I said to the team, having
- 32:54Speaker 11: Luise in the eighth hole, that's as good a whole
- 32:55Speaker 11: hitter as you're going to have in the country tonight.
- 32:57Speaker 11: And he popped two home runs, so it worked out great.
- 33:00Speaker 11: But it was really just a sign of you know,
- 33:02Speaker 11: we gave everybody a job to do in the lineup
- 33:04Speaker 11: that day and the guys did a good job executing it.
- 33:07Speaker 9: Coach introduced myself to you, Matt Flynn. It's a it's
- 33:12Speaker 9: a pleasure to talk to you. Looking forward to to
- 33:15Speaker 9: to talking with you every week the rest of the season.
- 33:17Speaker 9: So look, my question is the big decison You're going
- 33:22Speaker 9: into this this regional and it's different than any other
- 33:25Speaker 9: week of the season. You have a lot to think about,
- 33:27Speaker 9: You have a lot of from a pitching standpoint, how
- 33:29Speaker 9: are we gonna what's the rotation going to be, when
- 33:31Speaker 9: do you guys come in, how many innings? Everything like that.
- 33:33Speaker 9: It's different than any other week of the season leading
- 33:35Speaker 9: up to that point. So what kind of goes into
- 33:38Speaker 9: like the game three, what goes into your decision on
- 33:42Speaker 9: who's starting and what you know, how many rotations to
- 33:46Speaker 9: the lineup you wanted to go and what kind of
- 33:48Speaker 9: goes into that preparation of Game three from a starter standpoint,
- 33:52Speaker 9: but also knowing that you kind of have to be
- 33:53Speaker 9: prepared for a potential Game four as well.
- 33:56Speaker 11: Yeah, great question, and you know, I don't know that
- 33:59Speaker 11: Chief would have articulated it. Yeah, let's go. Good way
- 34:10Speaker 11: to give him a hard time. Very nice to meet you.
- 34:11Speaker 11: First off. Second off, a lot, honestly. I mean Game
- 34:15Speaker 11: one and two are pretty easy with the guys that
- 34:17Speaker 11: we have. It's not easy in terms of winning, but
- 34:20Speaker 11: you're going to go with those two guys. It was
- 34:21Speaker 11: just a matter of determining what order. And you know,
- 34:24Speaker 11: I had a thought out deal of why we were
- 34:26Speaker 11: going to do Anthony and then Kate and and so
- 34:28Speaker 11: that was in place, and then you know, really game
- 34:31Speaker 11: three wasn't as hard as you would think. I mean,
- 34:33Speaker 11: Jayden Knut has thrown the ball really well for us
- 34:35Speaker 11: for the last three or four weeks and felt like
- 34:39Speaker 11: he could get us off to a good start. Didn't
- 34:41Speaker 11: have his best outing, and then you're right, it gets
- 34:44Speaker 11: a little tricky. You know. Obviously I would have loved
- 34:46Speaker 11: to have ended the deal on Sunday night, but you
- 34:49Speaker 11: have to play that thing smart because the worst thing
- 34:51Speaker 11: that you could do is burn through your best guys
- 34:56Speaker 11: and lose that game. And so we're fortunate where we
- 34:59Speaker 11: feel like we had multiple options at that point. When
- 35:02Speaker 11: I say that about four or five guys, Chase Shores
- 35:05Speaker 11: had been throwing the ball. Well, we were up three
- 35:07Speaker 11: to two, you know, velocity in that team's second game
- 35:12Speaker 11: in the doubleheader, I thought would give him problem. And
- 35:15Speaker 11: he immediately got us out of that inning, you know,
- 35:17Speaker 11: with the lead, and then went out and got the
- 35:18Speaker 11: leadoff guy and felt like he could get us three
- 35:20Speaker 11: to four innings, which would give us the time to
- 35:23Speaker 11: see where the game was at now if we're up
- 35:25Speaker 11: five to one or excuse me, at that point five
- 35:27Speaker 11: to two. Cason Evans was going in the game on
- 35:30Speaker 11: Sunday night, you know, to finish it. But they took
- 35:34Speaker 11: the lead, you know, at five to three, stretched it
- 35:37Speaker 11: to six to four, I believe, or six to three,
- 35:40Speaker 11: then six to four, and then ultimately ten to four.
- 35:44Speaker 11: And that's one of the weird games of the year
- 35:48Speaker 11: where it's great that you're in the winners bracket, but
- 35:50Speaker 11: you have to do that the right way, and I
- 35:52Speaker 11: feel like that we did, and it was honestly like
- 35:56Speaker 11: ten to four and the ninth it was it was
- 35:58Speaker 11: almost better that it was ten to five four then
- 36:00Speaker 11: had stayed six to four, and you know, it put
- 36:03Speaker 11: us in a good spot. I felt really good about
- 36:05Speaker 11: Monday thing. We had Zach, Cason, and Anthony for the
- 36:09Speaker 11: very back end of the game and felt like we
- 36:12Speaker 11: would hit. You know, we didn't come through necessarily on
- 36:15Speaker 11: Sunday night, but I felt like our offense was in
- 36:17Speaker 11: a good spot those three pitchers, maybe a couple other
- 36:20Speaker 11: guys for short bolts, that we were in a good
- 36:21Speaker 11: spot to win on Monday.
- 36:23Speaker 3: And Coach, I mean Cason Evans, I mean, what can
- 36:25Speaker 3: you say about him? He didn't start the game on Monday,
- 36:27Speaker 3: but when he comes in strikes out nine straight guys,
- 36:30Speaker 3: I mean, he was unhittable, and he had this look
- 36:33Speaker 3: about him, and he had this energy about him. He
- 36:35Speaker 3: was wasting no time on the mound. It's like, catcher,
- 36:38Speaker 3: get me the ball as soon as you can batter,
- 36:40Speaker 3: get in the box, and I'm going to strike you out.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Like there was some big alpha energy from him. And
- 36:45Speaker 3: I've asked you this before and I'm just gonna keep
- 36:47Speaker 3: harping on it. You're not supposed to have that as
- 36:50Speaker 3: a freshman, certainly a true freshman in that venue, in
- 36:53Speaker 3: the best stadium in college baseball, with everything on the line.
- 36:56Speaker 4: But he's got it and then.
- 36:57Speaker 11: Some there's no doubt. I mean, that's one of the
- 37:00Speaker 11: most important players we've recruited here in my four years.
- 37:04Speaker 11: Knew at the second we got him, knew at the
- 37:06Speaker 11: second we got him through the draft. I don't know
- 37:08Speaker 11: if I said this earlier in the year when we
- 37:09Speaker 11: were talking about him. Well, I was supposed to go
- 37:12Speaker 11: to one of my friend's wedding in California, and then
- 37:15Speaker 11: he on a Saturday. I was going to leave on Friday,
- 37:17Speaker 11: and then Thursday he called me and said, hey, my
- 37:20Speaker 11: parents and I want to come back out for a
- 37:22Speaker 11: second visit. So I called my buddy and I said, hey, man, sorry,
- 37:24Speaker 11: we're not coming. Like this is uh, you'll it's a
- 37:27Speaker 11: base he's a baseball guy. I was like, you'll get it.
- 37:30Speaker 11: You'll get it when this dude shows up. And the
- 37:35Speaker 11: night I called him on Monday night and he's like,
- 37:38Speaker 11: that what the guy was? And then I was like,
- 37:39Speaker 11: that's exactly who that was.
- 37:42Speaker 3: So he understood that, right, I mean as soon as
- 37:44Speaker 3: like you like, hey, that was the guy that just
- 37:46Speaker 3: struck out nine straight guys in the postseason, Like you're
- 37:49Speaker 3: forgiven forever for that, right.
- 37:51Speaker 11: Yeah, no doubt. He's a he's a baseball agent. So
- 37:53Speaker 11: he was like, he knows very well who he.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Is now, you know, coach.
- 37:58Speaker 9: I was curious watching watching on on Monday the what
- 38:03Speaker 9: are the end game adjustments?
- 38:05Speaker 2: Is there?
- 38:05Speaker 9: Is there anything said from a coaching staff to a
- 38:09Speaker 9: lineup if there's a tight strike zone in a game,
- 38:12Speaker 9: Because I thought watching the game, and I'm a very
- 38:15Speaker 9: novice baseball knowledge guy, but I'm watching the game and
- 38:19Speaker 9: I'm thinking one of the big differences right now is
- 38:22Speaker 9: it seems that our guys LSU is adjusting to a
- 38:25Speaker 9: tighter strike zone from a discipline standpoint in the batter's box,
- 38:29Speaker 9: is there something like you in the first couple of innings.
- 38:32Speaker 9: Is there a mid game adjustment that you tell all
- 38:34Speaker 9: your guys, we got a tight strike zone, We're gonna
- 38:36Speaker 9: implement this a different type of game plan in the
- 38:39Speaker 9: batter's box one.
- 38:40Speaker 11: Hundred and you always are adjusting to the pitcher having
- 38:44Speaker 11: a good game plan there. I think you know the umpire,
- 38:48Speaker 11: you know you can tell pretty quickly and you know
- 38:50Speaker 11: most of the time, not the other night, but most
- 38:52Speaker 11: of the time we're the home team. And based on
- 38:55Speaker 11: you know, yeah, the two of the elite strike throwers
- 38:57Speaker 11: in the history of whatever. When k An Anthony like,
- 39:01Speaker 11: depending on you know, whether the guys are raising his
- 39:03Speaker 11: right arm. If he's not raising his right arm, when
- 39:05Speaker 11: those guys are throwing in the first inning, you're like, Okay, guys,
- 39:08Speaker 11: let's button this thing down a little bit. And so
- 39:11Speaker 11: that's definitely a thing. It doesn't happen as much as
- 39:14Speaker 11: you think. And I would say this, like, and I've
- 39:16Speaker 11: felt this coming out of the NCAA tournament's different because
- 39:19Speaker 11: you're you're getting the best of the best umpires. But
- 39:22Speaker 11: I think they've done a great job and they do
- 39:24Speaker 11: a good job in the SEC and the guys this weekend,
- 39:27Speaker 11: I thought behind the plate did a really good job.
- 39:29Speaker 11: And you know, and sometimes you know, you get them
- 39:32Speaker 11: from different parts of the country and the NCAA tournament,
- 39:34Speaker 11: that's kind of how they do it. And I actually
- 39:35Speaker 11: worry about it going the other way sometimes where it
- 39:37Speaker 11: opens up a little bit, you know. And but yeah,
- 39:41Speaker 11: I thought our guys did a good job. I mean,
- 39:42Speaker 11: we got a bunch of walks the other night, which
- 39:44Speaker 11: you know, that's a big part of our offense. It's
- 39:47Speaker 11: like turnovers in football. You know, let's just take what
- 39:49Speaker 11: they give us and turn it into something big. And yeah,
- 39:53Speaker 11: I thought our hitters did a good job with that.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Cause no what else you have baseball coach Jay Johnson
- 39:58Speaker 3: here on OTB. All right, coach, let's go to West Virginia.
- 40:02Speaker 3: They won the Big twelve in the regular season. Really
- 40:05Speaker 3: good baseball team. They go to Clemson South Carolina, they
- 40:09Speaker 3: win that regional against you know, look a pretty good
- 40:11Speaker 3: field with Clemson, Kentucky and others. Initial look at West
- 40:16Speaker 3: Virginia kind of your initial breakdown of what they're bringing
- 40:19Speaker 3: to town.
- 40:20Speaker 11: Yeah, two really good starting pitchers. They're they're Friday guy
- 40:24Speaker 11: or number one guy. They lean on a lot. They
- 40:26Speaker 11: actually brought him in like we did with Anthony, but
- 40:29Speaker 11: on one day's rest to finish up the regional, So
- 40:32Speaker 11: they really lean on him a lot. Those guys throw
- 40:35Speaker 11: a lot of pitches. They're going to stay in the game.
- 40:37Speaker 11: They ride them on. Offense, impressive in terms of how
- 40:42Speaker 11: they play, I would say, you know, they obviously have
- 40:45Speaker 11: like one hundred and eight stolen bases or something like
- 40:47Speaker 11: that they do a really good job with the playing game.
- 40:51Speaker 11: They have old position players that take really good at bats,
- 40:54Speaker 11: they don't strike out very much, and I think most importantly,
- 40:58Speaker 11: and you got to know how important they believe that
- 41:01Speaker 11: they can win. And they're championship caliber team and one
- 41:04Speaker 11: of the best leagues in college baseball. And we're gonna
- 41:07Speaker 11: have to play great, you know, to advance out of this,
- 41:09Speaker 11: and we're excited about that challenge.
- 41:13Speaker 9: Coach, I'm not gonna not going to ask you, like
- 41:15Speaker 9: what your lineup decisions and.
- 41:16Speaker 2: What it's going to be good to tell you, yeah, obviously,
- 41:19Speaker 2: but like when you.
- 41:20Speaker 9: Go into making a decision like that, especially this time
- 41:23Speaker 9: of the year, do you kind of go with like
- 41:26Speaker 9: hothand do you go with what's happened in the short term,
- 41:28Speaker 9: or do you kind of look at it as, all right,
- 41:31Speaker 9: we're resetting, this is a brand new weekend. Let's go
- 41:33Speaker 9: with what kind of the long term plan is.
- 41:35Speaker 11: Well, your season's on the line every every day now,
- 41:39Speaker 11: so it's really what's best for today. And you know,
- 41:42Speaker 11: like I said, it's a little bit unconventional thinking. But
- 41:47Speaker 11: you know, our players again in eighteen to twenty one,
- 41:49Speaker 11: twenty two, they change a little bit more than the
- 41:52Speaker 11: professional player. And then sometimes there's just a matchup thing, like, hey,
- 41:56Speaker 11: we work really hard on that and you're great guy,
- 41:58Speaker 11: and Jamie Tucco and helps me with like some data
- 42:01Speaker 11: and analytics and evaluated matchups, and then we'll set the lineup,
- 42:06Speaker 11: you know. I mean, I'll consider starting a guy that
- 42:08Speaker 11: hadn't started in a long time on Monday night just
- 42:11Speaker 11: because we felt like we like where he's at with
- 42:13Speaker 11: his abats, that he's taken right now, and you know
- 42:16Speaker 11: he's going to impact the game some way, shape or form,
- 42:19Speaker 11: and so it's a little more like what's best for today.
- 42:23Speaker 10: Now.
- 42:23Speaker 11: With that being said, we've been very consistent this year
- 42:26Speaker 11: and very good throughout the season. We had one hiccup
- 42:30Speaker 11: at Auburn, but other than that, you know, it doesn't
- 42:32Speaker 11: mean we've scored seven or eight every game, But I
- 42:35Speaker 11: feel like I have a pretty good idea of what
- 42:36Speaker 11: I'm going to get and sometimes it's just slotting them
- 42:39Speaker 11: for what's best for that day.
- 42:41Speaker 3: And we look forward to it coming up this weekend
- 42:44Speaker 3: inside Alec Box Stadium, West Virginia coming to town for
- 42:46Speaker 3: a super regional coach Man Me and the family had
- 42:49Speaker 3: such a good time with the Regional. Can't wait to
- 42:51Speaker 3: be back at the box for the Super Regional. The
- 42:53Speaker 3: stadium was electric. It's going to be turned up to
- 42:55Speaker 3: an absolute eleven. We look forward to and we always
- 42:58Speaker 3: appreciate your time.
- 43:00Speaker 11: All right, guys, have a great day.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Thanks coach.
- 43:01Speaker 3: All right there he is head baseball coach for the
- 43:03Speaker 3: LSU Tigers, Jay Johnson, good enough to join us every
- 43:06Speaker 3: single week here on OTB. All right, we will step
- 43:10Speaker 3: away one final time here in our number two coming back.
- 43:13Speaker 3: I'm going to hit on some of what Jay talked
- 43:15Speaker 3: about there and we'll do it right here on ESPN.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Baton rouge off the bench.
- 43:23Speaker 4: I go to budros Electrical dot Com.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Bujo's electrical dot com is the websites, and it is

- 43:32Speaker 3: it is a coming, right, And we have all been
- 43:34Speaker 3: through hurricanes, and we've probably all been through a power outage,
- 43:38Speaker 3: and we've all been through a power outage that didn't
- 43:41Speaker 3: have a whole home generator before. And I can just
- 43:43Speaker 3: tell you, as someone that now has a whole home generator,
- 43:46Speaker 3: it is a completely different peace of mind.
- 43:50Speaker 4: And so Boudro is going to come out.
