Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's going on everybody?
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan and we're finishing off
- 0:17Speaker 1: our Lee Heisman series, where the other day we looked
- 0:21Speaker 1: on Wednesday we did our Lee Heisman on offense. Those
- 0:24Speaker 1: are players from Eagles training camp who came out of
- 0:27Speaker 1: nowhere to just knock everyone's socks off, become household names,
- 0:32Speaker 1: but then went on to either have no or modest
- 0:34Speaker 1: careers with the Eagles. And now we'll do this on defense,
- 0:37Speaker 1: which I'll be at Adam. It's a little bit trickier.
- 0:40Speaker 1: On offense, it's easy to find the running backs, the
- 0:42Speaker 1: wide receivers who make the splash splashy play, the Hank
- 0:45Speaker 1: Baskets of the world, who just come out of nowhere
- 0:48Speaker 1: and grab everything that's caught from On defense a little bit.
- 0:51Speaker 2: A little bit different, but we've got some names.
- 0:53Speaker 1: We got some names of some guys who really made
- 0:55Speaker 1: a name for themselves. So the first thing, Yeah, I
- 0:58Speaker 1: was gonna say, when you think of the old Lee
- 1:00Speaker 1: Heisman on defense, who would come to mind you the uldament?
- 1:05Speaker 3: Well, this see what happens sometimes is there are guys
- 1:09Speaker 3: who who come in You're like, sometimes they're literally they're
- 1:12Speaker 3: trying out as an undirected free agent, Like, you don't
- 1:15Speaker 3: know who these guys are. So this big defensive tackle,
- 1:18Speaker 3: big dude, Antonio Dixon, Oh my god. So he gets
- 1:23Speaker 3: he gets claimed off waivers from Washington. Do you think
- 1:26Speaker 3: much of them? But he's a massive human being. I'm
- 1:29Speaker 3: saying for defensive tackle long he had to be least
- 1:32Speaker 3: three forty. But he can move a little bit.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:35Speaker 3: And I wasn't familiar with him, so I asked, you know,
- 1:38Speaker 3: Ron and from some scouting people, and they said, hey,
- 1:40Speaker 3: he's super strong. We'll see what happens. Probably not gonna
- 1:44Speaker 3: make our team again Washington. Then Redskins cut him. He
- 1:49Speaker 3: would he he did real well, and you sometimes you
- 1:52Speaker 3: don't again, you don't really know what you're getting when
- 1:55Speaker 3: you see these guys. But he the light went on
- 1:59Speaker 3: with great coaching and he just started. He just started
- 2:05Speaker 3: being a blot like you literally cannot you literally cannot
- 2:07Speaker 3: run past this guy.
- 2:09Speaker 1: And one second, yeah, we're good, Okay, it says recording resume,
- 2:15Speaker 1: We're right go ahead.
- 2:16Speaker 3: So okay. So Booker gets claimed off waivers right prior
- 2:25Speaker 3: to the start of the season. But then I see
- 2:27Speaker 3: him the next training camp at twenty ten, and I'm like, wow,
- 2:31Speaker 3: this dude is like this god could play. So he
- 2:34Speaker 3: went from being an undirected free agent waiverclaim on twenty
- 2:38Speaker 3: oh nine, came out of university in Miami, Florida that
- 2:40Speaker 3: is not Ohio, and he became like a real key
- 2:43Speaker 3: player in the rotation. Wasn't a starter, but he did
- 2:47Speaker 3: a really good job. This is a good job of evaluation.
- 2:51Speaker 3: He was with him in twenty twelve and then he
- 2:53Speaker 3: just I think he got too heavy. Yes, he wasn't
- 2:56Speaker 3: super tall, he just at girth and he's super strong.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I was like, wow, this is a health I don't
- 3:01Speaker 3: know who found him, but yeah. He was with Eagles
- 3:04Speaker 3: for like the better part of three seasons than he
- 3:06Speaker 3: got cut. Then he went He came back Colton Eagles
- 3:09Speaker 3: and played a couple of satellite leagues, so that he
- 3:12Speaker 3: was a He's just a good defensive player. I like
- 3:15Speaker 3: treket take the guys that were like you were Mitchell
- 3:17Speaker 3: runs a book where he was a fairly high draft pick.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I'm looking for guys who were like, no had any
- 3:21Speaker 3: expectations for their run. Director free agents came out of
- 3:23Speaker 3: like Hank Basket and the other show. Right, that's the
- 3:25Speaker 3: guy I was kind of looking for. But like as
- 3:27Speaker 3: you said, it's hard to find these guys, but that
- 3:31Speaker 3: that was a good one. Yeah.
- 3:32Speaker 1: The thing that struck me is what you said is
- 3:35Speaker 1: that for a three hundred and twenty found five pound
- 3:37Speaker 1: guy three thirty, he might have been more than that,
- 3:39Speaker 1: like you said, yeah, yeah, he he moved really well
- 3:45Speaker 1: and he would always make a lot of play. I
- 3:47Speaker 1: think he got underestimated by people who didn't realize him
- 3:49Speaker 1: in camp, whether it was back up lineman or even
- 3:52Speaker 1: in stretchers during his pro career, so he would always
- 3:55Speaker 1: wind up making a really splashy play. And you got
- 3:58Speaker 1: used in the Andy Reider right Spagnolo or Jim Johnson
- 4:03Speaker 1: or whoever even schworts right to seeing the undersized guys,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but he was not. It was like the rare oversized
- 4:09Speaker 1: guy for what they normally had in their defense, but
- 4:11Speaker 1: who moved like an undersized guy. And I thought he
- 4:15Speaker 1: was a cool story because he had a really really
- 4:19Speaker 1: bad stutter. He was very open about it, and he
- 4:23Speaker 1: had learned how to overcome it by kind of tapping
- 4:26Speaker 1: on his chest. I think it was like a timing
- 4:29Speaker 1: mechanism for him. Or a comfort mechanism. So whenever we
- 4:32Speaker 1: would ask him a question, he would sort of start
- 4:35Speaker 1: like tapping on the chest and talking and he would
- 4:38Speaker 1: get it. And it was really cool to see him
- 4:40Speaker 1: overcome that he could get a Lee Heisman just for that,
- 4:43Speaker 1: because it's difficult in this market, right with the cameras
- 4:46Speaker 1: all around you and everybody, when you have success and
- 4:50Speaker 1: people want to talk to.
- 4:50Speaker 2: You to do that. So I was really I liked him.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I thought he was a cool dude, and he overcame
- 4:57Speaker 1: a lot and I appreciate it.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Good contribute to the team. So the next guy, this
- 5:03Speaker 3: is another one where undirafted free agent. He became an
- 5:07Speaker 3: excellent run stopper. That's Cedric Thornton. Oh. So yeah, did
- 5:12Speaker 3: a good job. In fact, he would get paid a
- 5:13Speaker 3: little bit. He he was signed as an undirected free
- 5:17Speaker 3: agent in twenty eleven. Made the team. Great story, really
- 5:22Speaker 3: good player would actually get make a little bit of
- 5:26Speaker 3: money in the NFL. Not not a ton, but did
- 5:28Speaker 3: a good job. He signed a nice, really nice free
- 5:31Speaker 3: agent deal with with the Cowboys. Unfortunately, just didn't play
- 5:35Speaker 3: great right and they got rid of him after one year.
- 5:38Speaker 3: In fact, he signed a four year deal. Now this
- 5:40Speaker 3: is of course the guarantee was not was just for
- 5:43Speaker 3: one season, and they changed their defense. I think to
- 5:46Speaker 3: it that they went from like a forty three to
- 5:48Speaker 3: thirty four, which the Egles run by the way, yep,
- 5:51Speaker 3: but he just didn't make it. Then went to the
- 5:52Speaker 3: Bills and the Niners practice squad. That was it. But
- 5:55Speaker 3: great story for the time. He was here for better
- 5:58Speaker 3: part of five years. It's a great job, was him.
- 6:00Speaker 3: He was dominant against the run, absolutely dominant.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yes, a man of few words. I got to know
- 6:05Speaker 2: him pretty well.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I would say I would talk to him quite a bit,
- 6:09Speaker 1: and he was a very non nonsense guy, a man.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Of few words.
- 6:13Speaker 1: He was one of the few guys that kind of
- 6:16Speaker 1: really uh well, when I say a few guys, there
- 6:17Speaker 1: were the Jim Washburn guys, the ones he brought in,
- 6:22Speaker 1: like the Babin Like Babin.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Loved him because they had a history going back to Tennessee.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Some of the guys who were already with the Eagles
- 6:29Speaker 1: didn't love all of Jim Washburn's teachings or the way
- 6:33Speaker 1: he taught things.
- 6:33Speaker 2: You know, he could be very mouthy. Cedric didan mine.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Cedric didn't didn't seem to be upset about it, and
- 6:41Speaker 1: even though it was a changeover in scheme, you know,
- 6:42Speaker 1: he did his best and you're right he was. He
- 6:44Speaker 1: was someone who, especially in training camp, would always make play.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I mean he was constantly in the backfield and training camp.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Another guy was deceptively quick in that remar.
- 6:55Speaker 1: You know, he may not be the greatest athletic tester,
- 6:57Speaker 1: but they had trouble blocking him.
- 6:59Speaker 3: He had a good first step, he had great length.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Yeah he's always six to four, but he wasn't even
- 7:03Speaker 3: three hundred pounds if I recall correctly, out of the
- 7:06Speaker 3: not so strong football school Southern Arkansas. I never heard
- 7:11Speaker 3: of that school since I don't know if they changed
- 7:13Speaker 3: the name. I have no idea they've put anyone else
- 7:15Speaker 3: in the NFL. But whoever the hell found him, that's
- 7:18Speaker 3: a phenomenal job of scouting. That's just that's how he
- 7:23Speaker 3: was the GM. Then it was his second year as
- 7:24Speaker 3: a GM. But whoever found him that that scouter has
- 7:26Speaker 3: an area. That's a great job.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Sure, sure any other interior guys that jump out.
- 7:30Speaker 3: To you, Yeah, this one was annoying. This one's going
- 7:32Speaker 3: to bring back some bad memories. So Chip Kelly was
- 7:36Speaker 3: famous for bringing guys in who he coached, even at
- 7:40Speaker 3: a Hampshire. Remember he brought in Dave Ball, the receiver,
- 7:42Speaker 3: oh d Yeah, leading receiver in New Hampshire history. And
- 7:45Speaker 3: he was long since way passed his prime. And you
- 7:49Speaker 3: know they brought him. He had good size. But anyway,
- 7:52Speaker 3: he brought him in. But another guy he brought in
- 7:54Speaker 3: and he became an NFL journeyman, a little young journeyman.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I mean he he played for Chip at Oregon. He
- 8:01Speaker 3: was with the Chiefs and anun director for Agent, then
- 8:03Speaker 3: the Raiders, and then he became sort of a player
- 8:06Speaker 3: because Eagles run a thirty four on a Billy Davis
- 8:10Speaker 3: that was the infamous Brandon Bear. Because he played for Chip,
- 8:14Speaker 3: people held it against him.
- 8:16Speaker 2: They remember that.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Yeah, he could stop the run. He was long, he
- 8:22Speaker 3: was just under six foot six. He he could play
- 8:25Speaker 3: the run like That's what helped him make the team.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Now you could say the bias because he played for Chip. Fine,
- 8:30Speaker 3: but he was with them for three seasons and he
- 8:34Speaker 3: could do like he he did some things like he
- 8:36Speaker 3: couldn't rush the passer at all, but he could play
- 8:39Speaker 3: a little bit against the run. He did a good job.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure he looked I'll never forget his like shape,
- 8:47Speaker 1: like the way he looked like what an.
- 8:48Speaker 2: NBA three and D.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Yeah, he was long, Yeah, maybe even a stretch for
- 8:53Speaker 1: like it just six seven. Chip loved his tall lineman.
- 8:58Speaker 1: He always thought that that, you know, kind of like
- 9:00Speaker 1: the fly swatters, right and now you would bring out.
- 9:03Speaker 2: For the quarterbacks.
- 9:04Speaker 1: He just thought it created a you know, a disruption
- 9:07Speaker 1: for the quarterback. But I mean, he was he was
- 9:10Speaker 1: an average player.
- 9:11Speaker 2: But if that.
- 9:15Speaker 3: He was great. I mean in terms of what you
- 9:17Speaker 3: asked him to do for the one year, he was
- 9:18Speaker 3: really good. Yeah, he only played one full season with
- 9:21Speaker 3: the Eagles. He did a good job. I think it
- 9:23Speaker 3: might have been twenty fourteen for I call correctly. He
- 9:26Speaker 3: actually played in every game. He did a nice job
- 9:30Speaker 3: in terms of what his role, did a good job.
- 9:32Speaker 3: And then, more often than not, undrafted free agents become
- 9:37Speaker 3: who they are right, not tell enough to play in
- 9:40Speaker 3: the NFL for a long time, correct, They just more
- 9:42Speaker 3: often than not, clubs are right. And he regressed significantly
- 9:46Speaker 3: and he was out of the league. So that was
- 9:49Speaker 3: it for him. But it Yeah, he did spend the
- 9:51Speaker 3: better part of three seasons with the Eagles. And then
- 9:54Speaker 3: he never got hurt from Chip, got fired and that
- 9:56Speaker 3: was it for him. Nobody wanted to Yeah, yeah, it
- 9:58Speaker 3: was it right, that's right, crazy all right? But this
- 10:03Speaker 3: this is this one was one of my favorite stories
- 10:05Speaker 3: because this guy sign I'm not going to give it
- 10:08Speaker 3: a see. If you haven't looked at my list.
- 10:12Speaker 1: He signed with the brown There's one edge that always
- 10:14Speaker 1: stands out, and I thought.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Well, this guy was a wide nine specialist. I'm going
- 10:17Speaker 3: to start. Give me some hints. He signed with the
- 10:19Speaker 3: Browns as an undrafted free agent, got cut. Yep, he
- 10:23Speaker 3: came to the Eagles because Washburn was here. He's a
- 10:25Speaker 3: wide nine specialist. He is perfect because of his first
- 10:29Speaker 3: step explosion, he was unbelievable. This is when I was
- 10:32Speaker 3: crazy putting stuff on Twitter. But what I would see
- 10:35Speaker 3: and know I someone from the front office was following
- 10:38Speaker 3: me and tap makes it. Dude, relax a little bit. Yes,
- 10:40Speaker 3: he's been great, but you're acting like this guy's going
- 10:42Speaker 3: to go to the Hall fame. I'm like, well, tell
- 10:43Speaker 3: me what I'm not seeing. He goes, No, he looks great,
- 10:46Speaker 3: but he's not real big. He's not going to start
- 10:48Speaker 3: for us. But you're right in what you're seeing he's
- 10:50Speaker 3: definitely talented. Yep, that was Philip Hunt. Philip Hunt was
- 10:54Speaker 3: he was like, you know, you see teams bringing guys
- 10:58Speaker 3: who are who are zone runners like Eliji Mitchell. Legals
- 11:01Speaker 3: were bringing in from the Niners during the league for
- 11:03Speaker 3: one reason. They're they're good fit for that scheme. This kid,
- 11:06Speaker 3: phil a punt was absolutely phenomenal. He So what happened
- 11:10Speaker 3: is he he got he moved on from the Browns.
- 11:13Speaker 3: He went to the CFL, put up major numbers. But
- 11:16Speaker 3: you're always you're it's like CFL, like what does it
- 11:18Speaker 3: really mean? Right? You know they're they're there's also like that,
- 11:22Speaker 3: there's pleasure much smaller. But he was tearing it up
- 11:26Speaker 3: in training him tearing it up. He looked great. Then
- 11:29Speaker 3: he towards a c L and his knee was never
- 11:32Speaker 3: the same unfortunately. But he was a Lee Heisman. Mm
- 11:38Speaker 3: hmm Lee Heisman. There's no question he was.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I fact, I was unblockable.
- 11:43Speaker 3: He was, I'm like, this is but this is one
- 11:47Speaker 3: of those where I needed help because I'm like, am
- 11:49Speaker 3: I seeing my eyes deceiving me? Like? Is this right? No?
- 11:52Speaker 3: He looks good, but you're like the guys told me
- 11:55Speaker 3: he said, dude, you're way overrating what he is.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, now you say that, but had.
- 12:02Speaker 3: He not suffered the torn a cl maybe he would
- 12:04Speaker 3: have been the player that I thought he was.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I always thought in retrospect, because I, like you thought
- 12:11Speaker 1: he was, like this amazing story, great another great dude
- 12:15Speaker 1: to talk to him.
- 12:17Speaker 2: In retrospect.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I do wonder if his height and arm length was
- 12:21Speaker 1: always going to be an issue against consistently against NFL tackles,
- 12:26Speaker 1: because he was just a short, stocky guy. He was
- 12:29Speaker 1: sort of built like James Harrison, but even obviously less
- 12:32Speaker 1: twitchy and asked to play with his hand in the
- 12:35Speaker 1: dirt instead of like a stand up rusher.
- 12:38Speaker 2: So uh.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And again he did it great against backup linemen and
- 12:41Speaker 1: occasionally he would run with the first string and.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Create a pressure. I just he was very very He
- 12:47Speaker 2: was short and short armed, I believe for.
- 12:50Speaker 3: He was under six two that might be not I mean,
- 12:55Speaker 3: I felt like when I stood next to Philip Hunt,
- 12:57Speaker 3: we were seeing eyed eye and I'm five les. He
- 12:59Speaker 3: definitely wasn't. Say still he was listed six till he
- 13:01Speaker 3: was not six two. Yeah he was, Yeah, he wasn't.
- 13:04Speaker 3: But he was incredibly explosive and Perth for the wide
- 13:06Speaker 3: nine play just get up field. Yeah, and then he
- 13:10Speaker 3: did fine in practice. Didn't put it like he did
- 13:13Speaker 3: play a little bit his first two years, and then
- 13:16Speaker 3: he had a great he hit a great run in
- 13:18Speaker 3: training camp early on in thirteen. Then he then he
- 13:22Speaker 3: got hurt in the first preseason game in August, and
- 13:26Speaker 3: he that was it. He was never the same. But
- 13:29Speaker 3: that was a good job of scout. That was a
- 13:30Speaker 3: good job by their scouts and how he signing him.
- 13:32Speaker 3: But he got hurt and that was it.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I got one more edge real quick for you.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Now, this guy had a He did make the Eagles
- 13:39Speaker 1: eventually and would play in some NFL games and even
- 13:42Speaker 1: won a Super Bowl of then. But Lehigh was or
- 13:44Speaker 1: i should say no overcare was his time to shine.
- 13:47Speaker 1: That was Stephen means, Oh yeah, relentless practical special team.
- 13:55Speaker 1: You put him on the field against second and third
- 13:57Speaker 1: teamers and line him up at edge, and he would
- 13:59Speaker 1: eat offensive tackles alive, especially ones that were a little
- 14:02Speaker 1: bit slower, a little bit short armed.
- 14:04Speaker 2: It doesn't matter.
- 14:05Speaker 1: If he wasn't going up against the top guys. You
- 14:07Speaker 1: put him a backup on him. He was going to
- 14:10Speaker 1: bulldog that guy and that's why he made the team
- 14:14Speaker 1: and why he was a good special teamer. And he
- 14:16Speaker 1: would occasionally get up and play in some NFL games.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I think he was active on their first Super Bowl
- 14:20Speaker 1: winning team as a special teamer if I'm not.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, Stephen means business. That was the line. Yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 3: he was good dude, like a gattown good guys, and
- 14:30Speaker 3: he was like like Patrick Johnson, who's been a good
- 14:34Speaker 3: special teams player.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Although it was a very great analogy.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Yep, yeah was it last couple of years. I know
- 14:38Speaker 3: he was back. He actually became. He went from being
- 14:40Speaker 3: their fifth ed rusher. He might have started because they
- 14:42Speaker 3: had all sorts of injuries. But yeah, means playing in
- 14:45Speaker 3: the league a long time as an elite special teams player.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah, Like you could have convinced me that this guy
- 14:50Speaker 1: was just I get I don't know, like half a
- 14:53Speaker 1: second of get off away or whatever it took to
- 14:57Speaker 1: be really good at your your your position and your job.
- 15:00Speaker 1: He was just a kick off of it. I mean
- 15:03Speaker 1: he had good size, he had good light. I mean
- 15:05Speaker 1: he was there was nothing wrong with him. He was relentless,
- 15:09Speaker 1: he had great motor, but he wasn't I guess explosive
- 15:12Speaker 1: and twitchy enough to really become an impact like a
- 15:15Speaker 1: rotational pass rusher. But man, that he dogged people and
- 15:19Speaker 1: practice at him. It was I mean, he puts some
- 15:21Speaker 1: people on their rear ends like he was.
- 15:23Speaker 3: I don't remember him being that good. Wow, that's interesting.
- 15:27Speaker 3: I don't remember that all.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Right, middle linebacker, outside inside linebacker. I got one guy
- 15:33Speaker 1: who used to stand out a little bit to me.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I can talk about Joe Mays. Oh my god, Okay,
- 15:43Speaker 1: I'll tell him really quickly. Stuart Bradley gets hurt. We
- 15:46Speaker 1: all remember flight night. Stup Bradley gets hurt. Yeah, fright night.
- 15:51Speaker 1: And we're up at Lee High the next day or
- 15:53Speaker 1: two days later because of the day off, and Joe
- 15:55Speaker 1: Mays is now the guy who's got to step.
- 15:57Speaker 2: In for Stuart Bradley.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And he is what five eleven five times.
- 16:02Speaker 3: He's built like he's a fire hydrant. He's just built
- 16:04Speaker 3: low to the ground. Yeah.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Yeah, So we're all there's a pack of reporters around
- 16:08Speaker 1: Joe Mays and I can't remember his name, Keith something
- 16:11Speaker 1: from ABC. And I'm not trying to poke fund of him,
- 16:14Speaker 1: but he Keith had the knack for sort of asking
- 16:16Speaker 1: it over.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Keith Russell to Keith Russell, Yeah, he sticks.
- 16:20Speaker 1: The microphone in Joe Mays's face, right, And the question
- 16:24Speaker 1: is what do you say to people who say you're
- 16:26Speaker 1: just a patch to fill the hole? Oh, we're not
- 16:32Speaker 1: even forty eight hours removed from the injury. Nobody has
- 16:36Speaker 1: said anything about Joe Mays being a patch for anybody,
- 16:39Speaker 1: like we're all just trying to Did.
- 16:40Speaker 3: He have a funny response? I actually remember this. What
- 16:42Speaker 3: did he say?
- 16:43Speaker 1: All he said was all I could do is be
- 16:45Speaker 1: Joe Mays and not Stuart Bradley, which is something else.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I I but I remember like it was. There
- 16:51Speaker 3: was a debate about what he meant. But he actually
- 16:55Speaker 3: he actually got a little bit of cash with the Broncos.
- 16:56Speaker 3: He left the after he left the Eagles had played
- 16:58Speaker 3: for the Texans Chargers. But yeah, he was stocky and
- 17:03Speaker 3: built short. Where did he go to school? Southern mess
- 17:05Speaker 3: of something.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I thought it was Colorado but on.
- 17:08Speaker 3: North Dakota State. Ya wow, Okay, yeah, okay.
- 17:12Speaker 2: What do you say to people who say you are
- 17:14Speaker 2: a patch to fill the hole?
- 17:16Speaker 3: How do you remember that? How do you remember exactly?
- 17:18Speaker 1: I'll tell you exactly why Because we're all up at
- 17:21Speaker 1: Lee High. It's the first question to ask, and you
- 17:25Speaker 1: would have thought, like you ever, you know, had like
- 17:26Speaker 1: the old stereotype of walking into a bar and the
- 17:29Speaker 1: music stops and everybody looks at you because you don't
- 17:31Speaker 1: belong to Yeah, that's how it felt. When the question
- 17:34Speaker 1: was everything just stopped. Everybody kind of looked at each other.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Joe Mays was like a deer at headsite like. I
- 17:40Speaker 1: don't think he was expecting that to be his first question,
- 17:43Speaker 1: and I'll always remember it was very funny. I think
- 17:46Speaker 1: Keith once once also asked Dallas Reynolds a backup center.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Remember Dallas Reynolds.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Oh got from b YU. Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I think Keith also asked how does it feel to
- 17:56Speaker 2: be named Dallas in Philadelphia?
- 17:57Speaker 3: I remember that one. I remember. I like my favorite.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Hey, Philly fans. Game day is stressful enough.

- 19:06Speaker 3: Ronnie Brown was at a pass Was that a pass
- 19:08Speaker 3: round option? Yes, yes, they'll play. And I asked Sean McDermott,
- 19:13Speaker 3: tell me about Ernie Simms. He's like a shark in
- 19:16Speaker 3: the water. Yeah.
- 19:18Speaker 2: You put the kiss of death on him?
- 19:19Speaker 3: Man, I did. That's oh god, Yeah, that was when
- 19:22Speaker 3: I regret it, because I remember watching tape with Cosell
- 19:24Speaker 3: and Jeorski and he would overrun like they because they
- 19:27Speaker 3: put me on him. They said, dude, he's he needs
- 19:30Speaker 3: to learn how to play. Yeah, runs, everybody's unbelievable. He's
- 19:33Speaker 3: unbelievably fast though.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Yes, yes, by the way, Ernie, if he was on
- 19:37Speaker 1: a first round pick by the Lions, who the Eagles acquired,
- 19:40Speaker 1: he could have been a Leie Heisman because he was
- 19:42Speaker 1: killing everybody include hit Yes, I mean he was hitting
- 19:46Speaker 1: Elder Buckley.
- 19:47Speaker 3: As Elder Buckley. Yeah, that's another training camp name. Yeah, people,
- 19:50Speaker 3: so I brought up in the comments I saw that
- 19:52Speaker 3: was a great call. Yeah.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:54Speaker 1: There was a guy named Chris McCoy you remember him
- 19:56Speaker 1: during the U He came to the Eagles and then
- 19:59Speaker 1: played like two preseason games and that's yeah. He was
- 20:03Speaker 1: an outside linebacker. Yeah, he was like fourteen tackles, two sacks,
- 20:07Speaker 1: a fumble recovery. He was unbelievable in this game against
- 20:10Speaker 1: the Jets, and the Eagles were actually kind of thin there.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Remember they were trying to get that Joe Walker guy
- 20:15Speaker 1: to get earn the job and he couldn't stay healthy
- 20:18Speaker 1: and beg they were trying to move on from from
- 20:20Speaker 1: never could amazingly, and then Chris McCoy wound up getting
- 20:23Speaker 1: cut anyway.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Uh in the secondary, do you remember Kyle Arrington Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 3: He was a really good nickel for the Patriots. Yep,
- 20:33Speaker 3: And for some reason it didn't happen here for me,
- 20:36Speaker 3: if I recall correctly, it didn't.
- 20:38Speaker 1: But he had really good camp, like he wound up
- 20:41Speaker 1: being a guy who was making play. And Sheldon Brown
- 20:43Speaker 1: pulled me aside one day and said this, Kyle Arrington's
- 20:45Speaker 1: really good. I think was at a Hofstra if I'm
- 20:47Speaker 1: not mistaken, right, Yeah, Shelton Brown pulled me a sudden like,
- 20:51Speaker 1: this guy can play. So I was kind of watching him,
- 20:53Speaker 1: and he did make a bunch of plays. He didn't
- 20:55Speaker 1: make the Eagles, but as you mentioned, Belichick got his
- 20:58Speaker 1: hands on him in New England and so on around,
- 21:01Speaker 1: even blitzing him off the edge and doing all sorts
- 21:03Speaker 1: of crazy things with him.
- 21:05Speaker 2: He's another guy.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Josh Blackwell, a cornerback, had a nice preseason for.
- 21:09Speaker 3: The the guy who got all whose great special teams player.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yes, I think he laught out with the Bears, right, Yeah.
- 21:16Speaker 3: So he's been making money for years with him. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:19Speaker 1: So those are some of our Lee Heisman on defense.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Anybody else that came to mind for you?
- 21:24Speaker 3: No, But I want to see what people put in
- 21:26Speaker 3: the comments because I need to laugh. I'll love you
- 21:28Speaker 3: cannot wait. You gotta come on, folks, think, think those
- 21:32Speaker 3: If you're over forty, you can remember the nineties. Come on,
- 21:34Speaker 3: give us some good stuff and give us.
- 21:35Speaker 2: And then we'll go through.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Maybe we'll spend an episode right before training camp is
- 21:38Speaker 1: going through who everybody else remembers in their face defense.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Yes, put it whatever you want, just go for.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Coaches, anything, All right, that's gonna do it.
