- 0:10Speaker 3: anything you like. Any question you have for US Radio
- 0:14Speaker 3: from hell at x ninety six dot com.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Put best question in the subject line.
- 0:19Speaker 1: So this this question we're going to do now? Is
- 0:21Speaker 1: this from Is this a legitimate question or is it
- 0:24Speaker 1: from Katie?
- 0:24Speaker 2: It is a legitimate question. Katie wouldn't do that. Katie's
- 0:27Speaker 2: busy doing tame.
- 0:29Speaker 4: I have so many other things to do right now.
- 0:32Speaker 2: This is good morning. Lords.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Can y'all talk to Katie this morning about her journey,
- 0:37Speaker 3: how she was an intern? Why did you recommend her
- 0:40Speaker 3: for her promotion? Does she like her job anyhow?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Let's have Katie on best Question?
- 0:46Speaker 1: So, Katie, when did you become an intern?
- 0:49Speaker 4: August seventh, twenty seventeen is when I when I took well,
- 0:53Speaker 4: when I became an intern. Right after I graduated college,
- 0:56Speaker 4: my or my sister was catering an event for ice
- 1:00Speaker 4: for Coldstone and Richie.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Was MC producer at the time, and she.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Talked me up. I got his email and then, as
- 1:09Speaker 4: I live by the statement, I was a squeaky wheel
- 1:12Speaker 4: that got the oil because he was horrible by emailing,
- 1:16Speaker 4: and I was like, cool, send another one and another one.
- 1:19Speaker 2: You did college radio like I did?
- 1:21Speaker 4: Yeah, we both did KUT Radio at the Une Reggae Show.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And so, but you were working at Coldstone Creamery or
- 1:31Speaker 1: your sister.
- 1:31Speaker 4: I had previously worked at Coldstone Creamery and my sister
- 1:34Speaker 4: was still working there because she was like one of
- 1:36Speaker 4: the managers.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Would you like to work there again?
- 1:39Speaker 2: No, when I.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Was a cake decorator, yes, I was just actually helping
- 1:44Speaker 4: the public.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Know I was helping. You would because I would like
- 1:47Speaker 1: to go to cold Stone.
- 1:48Speaker 2: The free ice cream was great.
- 1:50Speaker 1: So you get your job as an intern, and what
- 1:53Speaker 1: were some of your first impressions? Is working here as
- 1:56Speaker 1: an intern?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Well, I was excited.
- 1:58Speaker 4: When I was a kid. I told my mom in
- 1:59Speaker 4: the backseat of a car that I wanted to be
- 2:01Speaker 4: like you guys because we would listen. Uh, and you know,
- 2:05Speaker 4: when I got my internship.
- 2:06Speaker 2: She was like, look at you go.
- 2:11Speaker 4: But I was. I was really excited just to be
- 2:12Speaker 4: in the industry rather than just internet radio, but actually
- 2:16Speaker 4: be a part of FM radio and see how everything
- 2:19Speaker 4: on the bigger scale runs. I still really enjoyed it
- 2:23Speaker 4: as an intern back in the day. We had like
- 2:24Speaker 4: three interns that we rotated through, so I worked like
- 2:27Speaker 4: one to two days. Well, i'll tell you, Nick and
- 2:32Speaker 4: Festus were the ones that actually trained me as an Internally.
- 2:37Speaker 1: You didn't get paid back then, I didn't. By then
- 2:40Speaker 1: we started by that, which I which I maintained to
- 2:43Speaker 1: this day, is a mistake.
- 2:44Speaker 2: It's a legal situation.
- 2:47Speaker 4: But anyways, so yeah, and then I stuck around in
- 2:53Speaker 4: UH for about a year and then I rotated out
- 2:56Speaker 4: and I went into promotions just like I try and
- 2:58Speaker 4: get all of our other interns to do.
- 3:02Speaker 2: That's when we do events and remotes and things.
- 3:05Speaker 4: And I got to do all the stuff with you
- 3:07Speaker 4: guys and everything else that was going on. And then
- 3:10Speaker 4: I because I was in the station and I was
- 3:14Speaker 4: still here, I got pulled in to help cover every
- 3:18Speaker 4: so often in the in the producer's booth. It was
- 3:20Speaker 4: really cool, it was really fun. And then one day
- 3:23Speaker 4: I got noticed of hey, you're producing on Monday, and
- 3:26Speaker 4: I went.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Oh, no, it was not. I mean, so we lots
- 3:31Speaker 1: producer and then we so we needed to get another one,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and we talked to a bunch of people.
- 3:37Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, this was prior touring.
- 3:43Speaker 4: I took over. I was covering and I came in
- 3:46Speaker 4: on a Friday and it was like, oh, hey, by
- 3:48Speaker 4: the way, today's my last day. You're producing on Monday.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Bye.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I forgotten how long did that go on?
- 3:54Speaker 4: I took over at the end of February and I
- 3:57Speaker 4: became official producer in April.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, she did. She that's that's why.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Why Why did we then ever interview a bunch of
- 4:06Speaker 1: others too? Why?
- 4:08Speaker 3: Because you have to go through the motions legally, you
- 4:11Speaker 3: have to open it up and interview other people.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Again another rule I'm against. You should just be able
- 4:18Speaker 1: to hire who you want when you want.
- 4:19Speaker 2: And we did. We interviewed several.
- 4:21Speaker 4: People for even those in the station that had been
- 4:25Speaker 4: here before means yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And there and people that we thought were pretty qualified.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And we actually we and this I don't mean this
- 4:33Speaker 1: to be negative, but we had uh, a considerable conversation
- 4:39Speaker 1: about you whether really now, really, what do you think? Really?
- 4:43Speaker 1: What do you think? Okay? You know? And uh, and
- 4:47Speaker 1: then we said, well what about so and so? You know,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I mean, they do a really good job with social media,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and what about this? And and uh and then it
- 4:54Speaker 1: was finally and then I and then I said, Okay,
- 4:57Speaker 1: then Katie. If you guys want Katie, and then that's right.
- 5:01Speaker 3: What can I say, because because when she stepped up
- 5:05Speaker 3: when we needed her to, she didn't have to do that.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I had plans, man, I had plans at the time
- 5:11Speaker 4: I was moving.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Oh sorry, I was going to be going to Colorado.
- 5:15Speaker 4: I had plans in the August of that year to
- 5:17Speaker 4: move to Colorado. I had a house set up with
- 5:19Speaker 4: my friends. Everything that's right.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And I will say that Katie has exceeded our expectation. Yeah.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I was about to say what we didn't realize I
- 5:28Speaker 1: didn't at least was how damned organized you. I mean,
- 5:35Speaker 1: it's it's frightening how organized you are.
- 5:37Speaker 2: That OCD, Bill adhd OCD.
- 5:40Speaker 3: And you can count on her. I don't think. I
- 5:44Speaker 3: can't think of a time you've called in sick.
- 5:46Speaker 4: I've never called in sick. But you guys have told
- 5:48Speaker 4: me that I need to leave and go and I did,
- 5:50Speaker 4: and then I went to the instacare and then later
- 5:52Speaker 4: that night I went to the emergency room.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Yeah, but like once that's happened.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and if we and what what I think is
- 5:58Speaker 1: remarkable to you're not afraid to do I mean, if
- 6:01Speaker 1: we ask you to do something, you're not afraid to
- 6:04Speaker 1: do it. You will just say okay, as.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Long as it whatever it is, as long as I
- 6:08Speaker 4: either have a contact information that I can find and
- 6:10Speaker 4: even if I have to go find it, I will
- 6:12Speaker 4: do my best. If it has to do with anything
- 6:14Speaker 4: in the studio, I have good relationships with most people
- 6:16Speaker 4: in this place, and so I like to keep it
- 6:19Speaker 4: that way. Because you scratch my back, I scratch your
- 6:21Speaker 4: back kind of a deal.
- 6:22Speaker 1: You know, what's what? What do you? Is there anything
- 6:25Speaker 1: that you wish was different?
- 6:28Speaker 4: I I do miss the way that older radio used
- 6:32Speaker 4: to be with you know, when everybody had money and
- 6:34Speaker 4: all that good stuff and.
- 6:35Speaker 2: We could go do things.
- 6:37Speaker 4: I really wish I could have been a part.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Of that time when we were doing ten cities in
- 6:41Speaker 2: ten days.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Ten cities in ten ten days, when we could do
- 6:44Speaker 4: all that kind of stuff, when we when you guys
- 6:45Speaker 4: went to Las Vegas and stuff like that. Like, I
- 6:47Speaker 4: wish I could have been a part of that kind
- 6:49Speaker 4: that time. But I mean, as I started and radio changes,
- 6:54Speaker 4: it's it is what it is exactly.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Yeah, And what what are your what are you? What
- 7:04Speaker 1: do you hope for the future? You think about what.
- 7:09Speaker 4: I mean, I have wolves, So I mean, like obviously
- 7:12Speaker 4: you guys always sit here and go well maybe so
- 7:15Speaker 4: it always has to be in the back of my mind.
- 7:17Speaker 4: But I'm sticking with you guys until the end, and
- 7:19Speaker 4: then from there at that point, you know, depending on
- 7:22Speaker 4: where that is with our house and everything.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yet just got a house.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Did we just bought a house a couple of months ago?
- 7:29Speaker 4: You know, maybe sell the house, move east like we
- 7:32Speaker 4: wanted to, or you know, try and actually get one
- 7:37Speaker 4: of my own shows started.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I love you can hear Katie on Here She Goes.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 4: I do my weekend times Saturday and Sunday, Saturday seven
- 7:46Speaker 4: to midnight, Sunday three to seven pm. I do a podcast.
- 7:52Speaker 4: We've you know, it's really hard when your best friend
- 7:55Speaker 4: lives in Germany and times don't add up. So we're
- 7:59Speaker 4: trying to get our podcast back on track. But I
- 8:01Speaker 4: love editing the audio. I love being in the industry.
- 8:03Speaker 4: I do DJ every so often and stuff like that.
- 8:05Speaker 4: But I would love to see radio grow and maybe
- 8:09Speaker 4: come back to what it used to be in a
- 8:11Speaker 4: little bit of a way. And if I could be
- 8:13Speaker 4: a part of that, or if I can not I
- 8:16Speaker 4: don't want to lead that.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Let's be honest.
- 8:18Speaker 4: I don't love being a leader too much pressure.
- 8:20Speaker 1: But that's true. Is that that's true? You would you
- 8:24Speaker 1: like taking orders rather than giving them.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Not necessarily. I like having a point where I can
- 8:30Speaker 4: give certain orders. But I also don't want to be
- 8:33Speaker 4: lead of everyone else because then it comes back to you.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I already handle enough when it comes when it's when
- 8:39Speaker 4: it's Radio from Hell, and then it all comes to
- 8:42Speaker 4: me first. So but I do enjoy it, and I
- 8:46Speaker 4: love being behind the scenes. I love being a part
- 8:48Speaker 4: of covering for you guys when I have to. I mean,
- 8:52Speaker 4: up until this year, I was actually I had actually
- 8:54Speaker 4: run the show from the board longer than just producing itself,
- 8:59Speaker 4: so that was always really fun. I love being able
- 9:01Speaker 4: to cover for Carrie. That's what I wanted to do
- 9:04Speaker 4: intentionally when I first started in radio, and so being
- 9:07Speaker 4: able to know the old board and then learn this
- 9:10Speaker 4: new board with Carrie was really cool and all that.
- 9:13Speaker 2: What you do, you do a great job and we're
- 9:16Speaker 2: lucky to.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Have And I would just tell you I'm exceptionally fond
- 9:20Speaker 1: of you. Well, thank you.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I'm fond of you Tube, I'm you look lovely today.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Oh thank you. I remember what.
- 9:29Speaker 4: But I appreciate you guys, so thank you.
- 9:31Speaker 2: That was a good very much, thank you our good friends.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Zane wanted to buy Texas is good. If you have
- 9:39Speaker 2: a question, email US Radio for mail at X ninety
- 9:42Speaker 2: six dot com.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Thank you very much,
