- Exposing14: And afternoon, evening, or morning, or morning, evening, afternoon, or afternoon, evening, and morning. Well, whatever it is. Welcome to another Study in the Word with Pastor Tom Exposing the Darkness podcast. It's good to be with you today. Please subscribe. You know all the rules here to help us get going. If you really like our teaching, please do that. Share these with people. We're talking about demons. devils, demons, and, you know, spiritual warfare. And we'll throw in also deliverance. Okay? Because we're going to be in all these areas. And we started off by showing how that Jesus resisted the devil by just simply speaking the word of God out of his mouth, how how vitally important it is to get the word in you. when I got saved filled with the Holy Ghost, it was amongst groups of people that had a tremendous imp love for the word of God. Everything revolved around the Word of God. The Holy Spirit also, but it was the word it was it was a time where teaching was so prevalent and it was a teaching move of God. Everybody was teaching and we were listening. And I'm so thankful for that because today we don't see as much that kind of thing as we used to. Some of the videos that I watch are a little bit milky. In other words, they're not getting into the meat of the subject, so we want to go into the meat of the subject. So when we're talking about demons, that's a big subject. But we want to approach the subject by by saying some of this stuff may not be appropriate for younger people to watch. So please, you know, think that. you know, think about whether you think it's all right for them to watch. I can't tell you which videos I'll go into things that this is inappropriate, but I just want you to know it could be. Now, another thing too is is that when we start exploring this, we do not want people to become fearful. All right? Do not we do not become fearful. Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God. We are simply exposing the darkness, okay? We're simply shining the light on the darkness so that we can see it and we can better overcome it. Because we Jesus did it legally for us. He overcame Satan. That thing, all it's finished, he said. Okay. But we have to enforce that's the legal side of redemption. The vital side of redemption is us. vitally resisting the devil with the word of God, with the with the things that God has given us to use, the weapons of our warfare. This is very important. Because if you never take what he has done and apply it to our life, into life, what good is it? The covenant that he cut, he's with his blood, he's he's done it all. He's he's dealt with sin, he's dealt with our everything, and so we should be thankful and we should learn to take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, and chop him up, you know, resist him, push him around, don't let him push you around, that type of thing. And it's a rare two thing. So we were talking about some scriptures. I wanted to go to James chapter four right now. James chapter four. These scriptures are all some of my favorites, you know. I mean, these are things that I've learned over years about this subject. We're gonna have to learn, as we learned at our last session, to use the word of God against him, you know, but I'll also mention along the lines there that I thought was a good mention, by the way, and I think that all of us should take note of what I said, and that is the the area here that we gotta talk about humility. I think where we miss it mostly in spirit-filled circles is a lack of humility. We learn about the authority and our authority in Christ. We learn that you know, he's given us power and authority over all the devil and so on, binding and loosing, prayer and all that. But we don't we we see that part of it, but we don't understand the humility part of it. And the humility part of it may be the most important part of it. 'Cause if you don't approach these things with humility, then you're gonna get in trouble. And I've seen that over the years. I've experienced it. you know, just being cocky and thinking that, you know, you're you're all that. I don't ever approach a deliverance session like that. I I approach a deliverance session with humility, sometimes with fear and trembling. Actually, I really I take communion. I I dig down aside, see if there's anything I need to confess. you know, maybe I got angry with Stella or this or that or whatever. I don't want to go into a deliverance service without being clean by the blood of Jesus. Just everything out. And I think you would be better off doing it that way too. But a lot of people they'll jump right in. They're not living right maybe or something and they jump right at try to jump right in there and resist the devil. And it doesn't work. It doesn't work. Now that's not the only reason things don't work, but it's one of the reasons because the devil just laugh at you if you don't really know this what I'm talking about. See, humility is very important. Knowing your authority is very important, equally important. So in James chapter four, again, these are scriptures that you need to write down. And this is really, really an interesting James chapter four, verse seven. Let's see, make sure I. Verse six. But he gives more grace, therefore, he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Now that's the second time we heard that. We heard it in Peter. Therefore, submit to God first. I'm putting that in there. Therefore, submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. And purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up. Okay, now, right there in that little scriptures that we read, there's a lot. There's a lot here. First of all, it says in verse 6, He gives more grace. God will give us the grace we need, right? But we have to be humble because God resists the proud, but he gives grace to the humble. So the more humility you have, the more grace you can have. And grace is God's empowering. Grace is not, you know, that people quote it like this, you know, grace, you know, you're saved by grace through faith. And great, grace is the gift of God, the free gift of salvation. Yeah, but the the gift the grace is more than that. It's a gift of empowering. To be able to do what's right, not by yourself, not by the law, by your own works, but by God working in you to do his will and good favor. Christ in us, the hope of glory. It's all about him inside of us. And so we got to understand that God resists the proud, but he gives grace to the humble. So we have to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, and we'll have these things. We'll have the ability to do this. And it says in verse 7: therefore submit to God. How do we do that? Well, we just say, Lord, my life is yours. It's not my own. I'm bought with a price. Says I have to mortify the deeds of my body, and I need to walk with you in the spirit. Walk in the spirit, and we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. So therefore submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Now the word there flee is flee and as in terror. I gotta say this to you. I've a lot of people that I've prayed for over the years for deliverance. It takes them a while, for whatever reason, to get a hold of this because they say I resist the devil and he doesn't flee. But he will flee if you resist him the right way. we'll talk about that in a minute. So for therefore there has to be humility, all right. And secondarily, when you're resisting him, you have to do it from the standpoint of the entire word of God. In other words, let's just say a a person had a problem with smoking and was trying to get delivered from smoking. Satan had had him bound for a long time on the smoking. Well the Bible says resist the devil and he will flee from you. but if you and submit to God to do that, so you got to submit this to God and say, Lord, you're going to have to help me with this. And then you have to be able to you know take the scriptures that relate to what you're doing, you know, to to help you overcome that a bad habit or something. We got I don't know how many, six thousand wonderful scriptures and promises. So you have to sometimes what you must do is you must pick out the right scripture for the right situation. Money money issues. My God says supply all your need according to his riches and glory through Christ Jesus. See, you take the word that re relates to that and then you have something to work with to resist him. So it says that we have to draw near to God, verse 8, and he will draw near to us. So that's another thing. People are not drawing near to God enough, and they're trying to fight these battles without the daily drawing near to God. See, we need to be refreshed daily in the Word. We need to be refreshed daily in the presence of God so that we can come out of that. Remember Matthew chapter 6, 5 and 6, where Jesus talked about all these things. And one of the things he said: when you pray, go into a closet, alone. Alone, be refreshed in the presence of God. He says, and when you you know your father will refresh you, you'll have that contact with him, that intercourse with him, and you're spiritually speaking, you're built up, you come out of that, and the Bible says he will reward you openly. The reward in this case is the power and ability to overcome that evil that's coming against you. So this is what we want. We want to be able to tap in to God, because without him, we can't do anything. Everything rely we rely upon him, except for us to be willing vessels that open our mouths or whatever he wants us to do and allow him to move through us. So it's important. And another thing it says here draw close to God, he'll draw close to you. Cleanse your hands. You sinners. It's funny. He's writing to the church. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. In other words, if there's something going on there that you need to deal with, deal with it. Purify your hearts. It's possible that your hearts are not being purified like they should. Of course, this is dealing with the hearts, the minds, the mind, the will, the emotions. boy, that could be a real big subject. And so he wants us to do that because you see, if we don't have pure hearts, the enemy might find a way in into our soul. When he says, Cleanse your hands, you sinners, he means it because he doesn't want us operating over there in the sin because it could open the door to some things. See, you double purify your hearts, you double-mind it, lament, mourn, weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up. So there we go again. This humility I wanted to point out is the first step in really being able to operate accurately and rightly when it comes to deliverance, spiritual warfare, prayer, any of these subjects where we're on the offense here, there's a humility that needs to come. Now when it comes to deliverance, as people have asked me many times, how should you approach it? I re I r I approach deliverance humbly, prayerfully, as much knowledge as I can get. And then I do have fun with it. I g I I'm trying to trying to explain this. Everything in the kingdom of God is is righteous peace, joy in the Holy Ghost. There's joy in everything there should be. And there's joy in seeing people get set free from demon spirits. It's not a sometimes it's not a fun thing to do because of the the stuff that happens sometimes. It can be nasty and so on. I don't wanna make anybody think it's not, but I I try to have fun with it. I try to have some fun with it. Not not mocking or making fun of the devil, but but just s every once in a while I'll say something or do something and everybody laugh because it's heavy. If you have a team of people that are doing this, it can be a heavy moment and sometimes you can lighten it up with a little humor. Of course I've been doing that for years in in my messages. I find that humor really works well to open people's spirits up, but merry heart doeth good like medicine. So John 10, 10 says the thief comes to but but to steal, kill, and destroy. I mean, he points it out. Satan comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy. So when you see something in your life that is trying to steal something from you, Trying to kill you, trying to destroy your life in any way. That is of the devil, and he must be resisted. And so we have the ability to resist anything that he throws at us because Jesus said we did. And so when people say I resisted the devil, but he didn't flee, I have a hard time with that. You really didn't resist him the biblical way. Because if he did, who's right or who's wrong? Of course he knows. God knows exactly how to do it. And he tells us that's the way you do it, you do it. Go to Romans chapter 16, real quick. So one of the things we gotta stop doing is making excuses about things. And just because you have to really pray for a while and and and submit for a while, maybe a day or two, to get this done, you do it. You know. It's Not a legalistic thing. It's just something that you learn how to do. You have to, because we live in this world, unfortunately, that is full of spiritual wickedness, and we're going to have to do or deal with it. And if you're a born-again spirit-filled Christian, you are a target right now, greater than I've seen since I've been saved. Just an attack on the spirit field people. It's ridiculous. And it's mostly coming from the church, of course, religious people and people that have it inf infiltrated the church, the system. When you got a guy making lots of money out here by exposing all the terrible deeds and and things of everybody does and and how, you know, the quote unquote prosperity people, which, you know, they're they're teaching this and they're teaching that when they not doing that. It's the stuff they're accusing of many of these people of. I've known these some of these guys. I've been involved in this, you know, in the in the charismatic word of faith, full gospel churches for years. I've never heard anybody preach the stuff they're being accusing us of. Stupid stuff. And you know, trying to make men and women of God that have won literally, literally millions of souls, millions of souls. And they're trying to make look like heretics and idiots, taking something out of context. We'll do we'll deal with all that as we go, because it's important to understand what's happening out there. You don't understand something. They say that the preachers are all after money. But when they do this, they have to have clickbait. To make money because every time they hit that, they make a certain amount of money. These suddenly these people are making a huge amount of money. And they started doing it by being quote unquote heresy hunters. And now they're stuck with that. So they have to come up with new things, new things all the time to get clicks, to get money. And it's terrible to me. But a lot of these people are not real Christians, even though they have all they'll say all the right things and they'll say I'm doing God's work by doing this. You know, it's kind of like the Apostle Paul. The Apostle Paul is trying to kill off everything. You know, the Antichrist spirit is an anti-annointing spirit. He's going to go after the anointing. So the anointed ones out here that really have something that is going to help somebody are under attack. You know, some lady that's casting demons out in the park over here. You know, I always ask people that that criticize them how many demons have you cast out? You know? Seriously, if you don't sit there and try to correct everybody if you've never done anything like that. I ask people, you ever cast out a devil? Some of them will say yes. I'll say, How many? Well, back in whenever we we we're in a group, we we did it, or I did it one time over here. Yeah, but you see, some of these people that you're you're coming against do it all the time, just constantly. We're constantly dealing with demonic forces, getting them off of people. people are being healed and delivered and they're mocking, saying people are not being healed, hey, you know, Go get a better job. Because I gotta tell you something, people are being healed. People are being delivered. And it's all that doubt and unbelief. It's that comes out of the system. It comes from the occultists infiltrating the church with doubt and unbelief years ago. In every move of God, God adds truth. And if we walk in it, pretty soon we got a lot of truth to walk in. But every time there's a move of God, Satan gets in there with this stuff, divides, does a denomination, you know, you know, and it's the same old thing. We have to be wise enough in today's world to understand we can't do that anymore. We've gotta go out, work together, and and you know, not sh not taking pot shots at everybody. Listen, I wanna say this. I make fun of people. I make fun of everybody. I make fun of myself. People who know me know I do that all the time. I like to make fun of myself. But I gotta tell you something. Sometimes I'll s I'll I'll make fun, I'll well, no, that's a Bab Baptist translation or something of it, you know, or I'll say that's that's you know a Pescopellian s deal. And I'll make a little fun of because we're all chur a family. But if they're Christians, I don't mean it in a bad way, I'm just making tease them little bit. But here's the thing that I see in that. I see people listening to the seeds of of slander. And therefore you're approaching people that you should not be concerned about so much with serious how should I put this reservations. You know, I mean I had a Baptist brother that I I grew up with. He was one of my best friends in high school. Later on in life, I found out he got saved. And I had been saved. I got saved filled with the Holy Ghost. Man, I'm a wild tongue-talking, you know, you know, word person. He's a Baptist. And, you know, so okay, I love the guy. He's a great guy. We got together, you know, and I said, let's let's hang out, let's let's do some things together, renew our friendship. I hadn't seen him in years. So we did that. And the first thing he said to me is Do you confess Jesus is God, you know? Come in the flesh? I said, Yes. Of course I do. You know, and I quoted other scriptures too that, you know. And he but he did didn't seem like it it was enough for him. He kept coming back to that two or three times. Finally I said, look, I said, what does the Bible say? If we confess Lord Jesus, you know, and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we'll be saved. I'm saved. I'm born again. I'm a new creation. I'm spirit filled. Unlike you, I have the baptism in the Holy Ghost. And I was teasing a little bit about that and I said, You need that too. And I said, But if you don't want to have that, we can still have fellowship. Around what you know what we do believe in. I said, but stop trying to look at me because I'm a charismatic and you heard something somebody said down here, or your pastor said, or some other preacher said, and be weary of me. Because we the spirit-filled Christians are for the most part awesome people. But so are the good Baptists and the Methodists and all the people that are born again. They're good people too. They may not be in the best churches. But they're good people, and if they love God, then our brothers and sisters. What I'm trying to say is we don't need to be doing the devil's work for him. Okay. I'm tired of it. Every time I turn on that, a certain person's he's he he's exposing this and exposing that. And I got a bone to pick with that. Let me share something with you along this line while I'm thinking about it that will I hopefully be a blessing to you. There's a book, I think I have a copy of it right here somewhere. I wonder if I c get a I don't know if it's still in print. I really don't. But the book is called here it is. Yeah. The book is called Heresy hunters. Heresy hunters. Now back in the ninth late 1970s and 80s, and this is this book, Heresy Hunters, Character Assassination in the Church, Jim Spence, R. Spencer, forwarded by Paul Crouch. So what happened was, and I'll tell you the story here in a minute, is that Jim Spencer, who became a good friend of mine, I actually forwarded the next book of his. It's another book on the same topic. He wanted to become what we call apologists. And apologists are important in the body of Christ. There are people. Rick Renner's like that. He's a good apologist. Who point out good doctrine and bad doctrine, you know. And that's always going to be necessary. There's nothing wrong with pointing out what you consider to be bad doctrine. But try to keep the people or the person. You know, you don't have to rip them up because you don't agree with them about something. Anyway. There was a show back when I was just got saved. It was called The Bible Answer Man. And Walter Martin and his group of people, they were very good about apologetics. I got some his books, I got them on the occult right now, I got his Kingdom of the Cults, fantastic research and some of that. But what while they were doing that, they began to venture over into refuting things they saw as heresy. from people like, I don't know, Benny Hoon, Kenneth Kofan's always been a target. Kenneth Hagan Charles, you know, you just go down a long list of really great preachers, RW Shambok, and and who's a little lady that won s so many millions to the Lord and they're after, you know, Joyce Myers. It's just so disgusting when I see that, making them look like they're demons and they're under the demon's control and all this kind of stuff. You can prove it, you can you can do anything by media. You can take clips of what somebody said, pictures of something that happened that you don't understand, and you can make a great big deal out of it and make them sound like the most craziest people in the world when they're the ones that are winning all the souls. And when again when people s criticize these people, I always say, what are you doing? You're all you're doing is making slander toward the body of Christ. How many how many souls have you won? I would like to ask them and I would like to have them tell me I have soul I have won. I bet you it's not much because it's all it is is just tearing people up. Anyway. My friend Jim Spencer wanted to be a apologist. So he wanted to go and work with the Bible answer man, Walter Martin, and you know, learn about that and and become part of that, and then the churches would be, you know, open to him and all this. So he went there and he talked to him, and they were all thrilled to have him. And he told me what he said they they said, okay. The the assignment we're gonna give you is to refute, find information to refute, you know, the heresies coming out of the word of faith people. Mostly the target was like I said, Kenneth Copeland, Billy Graham excuse me, not Billy Graham, but Yeah, the people. Benny and so on. And so that was his assignment. Now he th he was asked, Do you know about these people? He said, Well, I've heard of but I really don't follow much of what they do, so I'm not really sure. So he approached it that way. Now he's a born again spirit filled person, lovely man, good man, ex Mormon then. He wrote really great books, by the way, on Mormonism. Just look his name up. Great books. And so he went to investigate and he prayed over it and he listened to their tapes. He'd take whole series. And he would go through the whole thing carefully taking notes. So I'm talking about Brother Copeland, Brother Hagan, all these people. And he also. read their books and he he did a man this guy really worked hard at this to find out what they believed to find out if they were really heretics you know what and what kind of heretics and what they were preaching that was not right and all this kind of stuff because they were they were accusing them of of you know preaching that they we were all got little gods were gods like the Mormon church and all this kind of nonsense I've never heard that in my life and I've been around these people for years they do say things where they take them out of context to make them think, make you think that they said that. I've been taken out of context that way myself. And you know, you can say anything about authority and there's going to be somebody who disagrees with you or whatever. But it's really funny. So anyway, he he went at it really scholarly. He went at it prayerfully. He went at it with Lord I'm going to do this is unto you. I've been assigned to do this. I want to be honest about it. So he went and he did this for I don't know how long it was, it was probably about almost six months to a year. Comes back with his findings. They ask him what he found out. He sits down with them. And quite frankly what it came down to was this. He said, after at thoroughly, completely Going through all of these teachings that I've done and all these books and all what they believe, asking questions and all kind of things like that, he says, I've come to the conclusion that people like Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagen, many h many hen, and he went down a long list. There's other people that I could name here, that you might agree with or and and not agree with some things. I don't know, but he said, number one, they are winning more souls. especially overseas, than any other group, period. Southern Baptists, Assemblies of God, Fours Square, they're all doing good. But he said these people and their churches and the move of God that's going on through these people is by far the most influential and powerful move of God in the earth. So many souls are being known. Number one. Okay, number two, he said, I found out after studying all this. The only thing I can tell you is they seem to be, to me anyway, the most accurate spiritually of any group that I've ever seen. And more like the early church or the the the you know taking the word of God at face value. And he said, he said, and they are literally more like. early Christianity than any other group I've ever seen. I do not see heresy. I do see a th few things I might disagree with. And he said that. He said, well I might disagree with the fact that, you know, there somebody's getting too much money if it's if it's not right or something like that. But he went on to say, most of the time when you see that, it is not true what they're saying. It is a made-up thing, made out of hardly any kind of evidence. And that's the thing that he was bothered with was the evidence. They did not have any evidence. When he brought that when he said that to them, they turned on him terribly and he became like an enemy and he lost all of his meetings. He just kind of his his ministry almost collapsed, it fell apart. He didn't have any any because they they were vicious. Now I'm not saying it was Walter Martin that was doing this. It was there's a whole group of these people that run together. one of was called Cornerstone. it was kind of the hippie guys and then you had these different people that were just trying to refute everybody and everything, you know. And without even really realizing or knowing what they were really doing, they just heard somebody say that somebody said that he said that he said that. And it made him mad and he lost almost everything. And I heard about this. That so anyway, he he wrote this book for TBN. Great book, Character Assassination of the Church. And he in the book talked about what he found out, talked about how they do it, talked about the way they use the media and the snippets of information and stuff and make it sound like I'm gonna use this term. False news. It's all false news. But yet you believe it because you're listening to some ding dong as YouTube channel. Doesn't know these people personally, never met doesn't know their character, doesn't know what they really believe. In fact, Brother Hagen, they you know, he sent he he took the time to write what they believe and said it to and they never even acknowledged that. See? Because if they acknowledge what Brother Hagen said was the opposite of what they thought he believed the apostles certain things, then they would have to apologize, I guess, you know. So that was a big deal at the time. And this Heresy Hunters has always been one of my favorite books. and so people like myself and others, I'm not the only one who did it, we began to bring Jim into our churches. And you know, I I had him several times and a lovely guy. We became friends, and what they did to his family was terrible. See? And that's what you need to understand that these people are many of them are not right. Some of them are in the system, even though they may be a theologian. See. and in the cemeteries, I mean the seminaries, these theologians are bringing in damnable heresies now. It's not so much the people who have revelation out of the word of God that don't know the word of God, like myself, that just we study the word of God and we look at it, we say it means what it says. See it ticks people off when you go against their grain. Like I say, you know, when when I say Jesus, the healer's healing today, and they say that all passed away, you're going against the grain of some of these people. Anytime you're denying the power of God like that, the systems involved, we'll talk about that too. The system has evolved. Demons are behind that. They have been for years. Trying to stop Christians from praying. Trying to stop the baptism in the Holy Ghost. Trying to stop the moves of God. Trying to stop the manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Trying to stop the gifts of the Spirit manifestation. Trying to stop I might have said that twice. Trying to stop revival. Trying to stop everything that's of God. And every time revival starts with something, they nitpick at things that maybe are wrong, but in revival you got all kind of wild stuff. I mean revival is there's been a revival in the in the establishment of every denomination known to mankind. I mean you go back in the Lutherans, you you just go back all the way through church history, you know, you know, the Finnies and and and and white moodies and all these peop they had signs and wonders and and and people fell out and sh and quaked and shivered and you know spoke in tongues and all this kind of stuff, you know, f and they were attacked back then for it. They're being attacked and yet we're being attacked again now for it. and you know, even though there may have been some truth in what they were saying, there was some maybe a witch got in there or something happened over here, or maybe somebody got a bad doctrine. But you you have to understand there's ninety-nine percent good and one percent or two percent or three percent bad. unless the person's a complete charlatan or something and just stealing money, I say we leave them alone if they're doing good. Now, you know, the the main thing that I'm trying to say is is that you look at some of these people they're coming against. How many souls has you know Kenneth Hagin won? How many souls has Kenneth Copeland there they're saying you know many, many tho hundreds of thousands of millions. Actually, millions, you know, and they called in for salvation. Well, I always tell people, look, you might not totally agree with this person about this or that, but you'll know them by their fruits. They're still there, they're still crippling, they're they're in their 80s, they're still, you know, and and that's the thing, people picking on them all their life. Many of these people have given their life to the Lord and people are picking on because they don't like they don't like the way they preach. They don't like some of their comments about prosperity or this or the the other thing. And they wait around. They listen to everything.
