Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: When you walk into a library or a bookstore, even if it's online, you'll notice that the books are categorized into genres.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Some of the popular genres include biography, children's books, adult fiction, self-help, spirituality, and history, among many, many others.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: No matter what type of books you write, your work always belongs in the history category, not necessarily because you're writing history, but because you're making history.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Well, what does that mean exactly though?
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: When you make history, it means that you have immense power to determine how people think, act, and feel.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: If you write fiction, your stories can move people to fear, to anger, to tears, or to joy.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: And those emotions can change how they feel about themselves, how they feel about their family and friends, and ultimately how they feel about their place in the world.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And those feelings can lead to powerful action.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: If you write nonfiction, your words and content can educate, inform, inspire, and motivate people.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: The whole purpose of nonfiction is to help people make some kind of change in their lives.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: And maybe that change is learning more about the past or learning how to cook or breaking an addiction or healing their marriage.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: You're making history with your words because you're changing people.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Quite literally, whenever you write and somebody reads the words that you write, it changes them and can move them to action.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Whenever we writers describe what we do, we often put the modifier just in front of our title, as in I am just a writer.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: But Winston Churchill said, History will be kind to me, for I intend to write it.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: And we can take that a step further.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: You're never just a writer, you're the most powerful type of person, one who may not necessarily be writing about history, but you're definitely making it.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
