- 0:00Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:01Speaker 2: Stu Gatz. Woo!
- 0:02Speaker 3: I got to be honest with you, Bruce, there's a
- 0:03Speaker 3: good chance I'd be high anyway.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Woo!
- 0:05Speaker 3: And I'm wondering how the football weekend was. Were you
- 0:07Speaker 3: able to watch it?
- 0:08Speaker 4: Wow, what happened?
- 0:09Speaker 3: Oh, I'm tired of him.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I'm serious.
- 0:13Speaker 3: How about that? In company.
- 0:15Speaker 5: We are mother shuckers, baby. Woo!
- 0:17Speaker 1: Bruce, does Faison Brandon's name sound like it's on backwards?
- 0:20Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's time to get your.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It's time to get your financial. To get the all boat.
- 0:28Speaker 4: You got nothing right there.
- 0:29Speaker 3: This is not going well.
- 0:31Speaker 2: This is Stu Gotts and Company.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Stu, back to you.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Taylor, put it on the poll. Was Bill's Rams the
- 0:38Speaker 3: best game since Seahawks 49ers? What a ridiculous game. Matt
- 0:45Speaker 3: Hasselbeck going to join us here coming up in about
- 0:48Speaker 3: five to ten minutes here. Looking forward to speaking with him.
- 0:51Speaker 3: What'd you guys make of the game last night? It
- 0:53Speaker 3: was terrific. It was the game of the year. We
- 0:55Speaker 3: will not see a better football game played the remainder
- 0:57Speaker 3: of this season than than the one we saw last night.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I'm declaring it right now.
- 1:01Speaker 1: The only thing ridiculous in that game was Sean McVay
- 1:04Speaker 1: in overtime getting conservative all of a sudden and running
- 1:07Speaker 1: Kyron Williams on a third and five where you set
- 1:10Speaker 1: up a 48-yard field goal for a kicker who had
- 1:12Speaker 1: already missed from 50. Like you have Matthew Stafford. He
- 1:15Speaker 1: just led you on three consecutive touchdown drives. You're taking
- 1:19Speaker 1: the ball out of his hands to trust the weakest
- 1:21Speaker 1: part of your game where Puka Nakua is on a
- 1:23Speaker 1: Hall of Fame trajectory. Devontae Adams is a Hall of Famer.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford is a Hall of Famer and the reigning
- 1:28Speaker 1: MVP against a defense that couldn't stop a nosebleed. And
- 1:33Speaker 1: Sean McVay after the game, this is exactly what I
- 1:35Speaker 1: was talking about yesterday, where these coaches think they are
- 1:39Speaker 1: so much smarter than everybody. This has to be a
- 1:43Speaker 1: record week of coaches in the NFL saying, you know what,
- 1:45Speaker 1: that's on me. Sean McVay, Nick Sirianni, Dan Quinn, Todd Bowles,
- 1:49Speaker 1: Guess what, guys? We know it's on you.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Right. Coaches have never looked dumber than they have this weekend,
- 1:54Speaker 3: this past weekend. Like they don't know what they're doing.
- 1:57Speaker 3: And I'm with you. You can get closer there. McVay
- 2:00Speaker 3: was very conservative there. But Josh Allen is Josh Allen.
- 2:05Speaker 3: And that's really the story. I mean, you could talk
- 2:07Speaker 3: about McVay and the Rams and all that. Josh Allen
- 2:10Speaker 3: is from another world I mean the guy is out
- 2:13Speaker 3: of his mind what Mikey.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Why are we giving Josh Allen all the props he
- 2:18Speaker 5: had a shot in overtime and he blew it if
- 2:20Speaker 5: not for getting bailed out by by Greg Rousseau for
- 2:24Speaker 5: blocking a kick and that's my only thing about uh
- 2:27Speaker 5: about your uh criticism of Sean McVay you're right he
- 2:30Speaker 5: did get conservative that kick is good if they could
- 2:33Speaker 5: you know block him. If they could block the guys
- 2:36Speaker 5: and not let them block it. It wasn't like he
- 2:38Speaker 5: missed the kick.
- 2:39Speaker 4: It got blocked.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Uh, Josh Allen, uh, did not blow it in overtime.
- 2:44Speaker 3: He had the pass to Shakir. Uh, it was a
- 2:46Speaker 3: great tackle by the Rams. I can't remember the name
- 2:48Speaker 3: of the player. Uh, Looked like it was going to
- 2:50Speaker 3: save the game. It was James Cook who fumbled. I mean,
- 2:53Speaker 3: it wasn't Josh Allen who fumbled in that spot.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Hold on a second. What?
- 2:56Speaker 5: We're going to give Josh Allen all the credit for
- 2:58Speaker 5: throwing a two-yard swing pass to Khalil Shakir and the
- 3:01Speaker 5: Rams forget how to tackle?
- 3:03Speaker 3: Yes. Come on, man.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Listen, Josh Allen could play Superman, and he did that.
- 3:08Speaker 5: He played Superman with his legs a lot yesterday. but
- 3:11Speaker 5: let's not pretend like he was this driving force in that,
- 3:15Speaker 5: in that first drive of overtime, the last drive of overtime,
- 3:19Speaker 5: he ran it with his legs. He barely, he barely
- 3:21Speaker 5: threw the ball and the Rams are just like, wait
- 3:23Speaker 5: a minute, the quarterback can run. Shouldn't we, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 5: stop him.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Uh, that two yard pass you speak of, um, It's
- 3:30Speaker 3: a highly underrated skill. It was like a 10-yard pass, okay,
- 3:35Speaker 3: that he put right in Shakir's chest so Shakir didn't
- 3:38Speaker 3: have to break stride and just kept running and should
- 3:40Speaker 3: have scored on that play. I understand what it is
- 3:43Speaker 3: you're saying. Josh Allen did not blow the game. He's
- 3:46Speaker 3: the reason they won the game. I will also say
- 3:48Speaker 3: this about my kicker. I don't like a frumpy kicker. Stu, yes.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Yes. You don't want me kicking.
- 3:55Speaker 4: You want Taylor kicking, not me.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I want someone who's in shape. We're playing football for
- 4:00Speaker 3: crying out loud.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I didn't want to be the one to say this
- 4:02Speaker 1: because I hate to say this. If you're a fat kicker,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you better be Adam Vinatieri when it comes to field
- 4:08Speaker 1: goals because a fat kicker that isn't good, it just
- 4:10Speaker 1: kind of feels like a gimmick.
- 4:14Speaker 3: You better be Sebastian Janikowski.
- 4:16Speaker 1: And to Mikey A's point, Josh Allen had one completion
- 4:20Speaker 1: of 10-plus air yards with 93% of his passing yards
- 4:23Speaker 1: coming after the catch. Nate Landman is in the Mount
- 4:27Speaker 1: Rushmore of the punch-out. It's Fred Warner, it's Landman, it's
- 4:30Speaker 1: Peanut Tillman, and Shaq Leonard. You know what he's not
- 4:32Speaker 1: good at spying Josh Allen and trying to stop him
- 4:35Speaker 1: in open space where Josh Allen rushes for 121 yards
- 4:39Speaker 1: on 10 attempts. That's largely on the Rams defensive coordinator,
- 4:43Speaker 1: Chris Shula.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Well, you guys surprised at all as the Rams are
- 4:46Speaker 3: driving down for that game tying touchdown in regulation and
- 4:51Speaker 3: the bills had three timeouts left. Were you surprised that
- 4:53Speaker 3: Joe Brady wasn't using those timeouts?
- 4:57Speaker 4: A little bit.
- 4:58Speaker 5: I mean, at the end of regulation, was there anybody
- 5:00Speaker 5: in the world who didn't think when the Bills scored, oh,
- 5:04Speaker 5: a minute 15 with one timeout?
- 5:06Speaker 3: Tie game.
- 5:06Speaker 4: And he didn't even need the timeout.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Tie game.
- 5:09Speaker 5: It was like six plays. Like, we're just going to
- 5:13Speaker 5: do this, this, this, this, overtime. Let's have a good time.
- 5:16Speaker 1: But that drive kind of speaks to, like, the decision
- 5:19Speaker 1: Sean McVay made in overtime, where Stafford in the second
- 5:22Speaker 1: half in overtime is 24 for 31, 284 yards and
- 5:24Speaker 1: two touchdowns. The Rams special team came into week five
- 5:29Speaker 1: ranked 32nd out of 32 teams in DVOA. They've been
- 5:33Speaker 1: 26 or worse in four of the last five seasons.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Like this is going to be this Rams team downfall
- 5:38Speaker 1: if McVay can't get it right. And Mike, you say
- 5:40Speaker 1: if the Rams blocked that kick, I hate to break
- 5:42Speaker 1: it to you. The Rams could have blocked that kick
- 5:44Speaker 1: to perfection. Mavis was not making that kick.
- 5:48Speaker 3: You're saying if no one got a hand up, that
- 5:51Speaker 3: kick's still– because he's frumpy. Just saying, he's frumpy, yes.
- 5:54Speaker 1: That was Shane.
- 5:55Speaker 3: And then you have Joe Brady. Just because he's a
- 5:57Speaker 3: husky lad.
- 5:58Speaker 1: No, and then you have Joe Brady on the other
- 6:00Speaker 1: side where Joe Brady sends out Tyler Bass for the
- 6:03Speaker 1: 45-yard winner on second down at the two-minute warning.
- 6:05Speaker 5: Yes.
- 6:07Speaker 1: If Buffalo misses that, we are bashing Joe Brady today
- 6:10Speaker 1: because the Rams have no timeouts. If you sneak it
- 6:13Speaker 1: twice with Josh Allen there, that runs off like a
- 6:15Speaker 1: minute and a half to where if Bass does miss,
- 6:18Speaker 1: you're not giving the Rams the ball back with an
- 6:20Speaker 1: ample amount of time left.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Leave it to this crew. Game of the year, 37-34, Bills-Rams.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Game went to overtime. It went back and forth. The
- 6:29Speaker 3: next morning to talk about a frumpy kicker. Matt Hasselbeck next.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Excited to have our friend Matt Hasselbeck on the show.
- 6:50Speaker 3: He's doing some great work, team impact and some CTE study.
- 6:54Speaker 3: We will talk about that with him in just a
- 6:56Speaker 3: few minutes. But we were just having an argument, Matt.
- 6:59Speaker 3: And so we have to start here. Do you like
- 7:01Speaker 3: a frumpy kicker?
- 7:05Speaker 4: Like strong, you mean?
- 7:07Speaker 3: Like the kicker for the Rams. I'll just tell you.
- 7:10Speaker 4: I'll just tell you. Like, I was a holder for
- 7:12Speaker 4: most of my career because I started with the Green
- 7:14Speaker 4: Bay Packers, and they had this guy named Brett Favor,
- 7:17Speaker 4: who was the starting quarterback. And so my only way
- 7:19Speaker 4: on the field was as Ryan Longwell's holder, you know,
- 7:23Speaker 4: to get fake field goals. And my first two touchdown
- 7:26Speaker 4: passes in the NFL came on fake field goals. That
- 7:28Speaker 4: was my only way in. So I pay attention to
- 7:31Speaker 4: this part of the game. And the Raiders drafted very
- 7:35Speaker 4: high Sebastian Janikowski while I was playing. And I'll just
- 7:39Speaker 4: tell you, that dude was the envy of a lot
- 7:42Speaker 4: of the other kickers. Like a lot of the other
- 7:44Speaker 4: kickers were former soccer players and they played midfield or
- 7:46Speaker 4: like whatever, striker. And they see this dude come out there,
- 7:50Speaker 4: this big Polish dude who like. probably drank vodka instead
- 7:54Speaker 4: of Gatorade, you know, like they were just like this
- 7:56Speaker 4: dude's leg. I can't compete with it, you know?
- 7:59Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 8:00Speaker 4: I'm not, I'm not like opposed to it, you know, but, uh,
- 8:03Speaker 4: He had a leg, man. He did.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Well, it's fine when you have a leg, but Nevis
- 8:06Speaker 3: does it. And that's the problem. I mean, he's 50%. Well,
- 8:11Speaker 3: that one got blocked. Yes, I know.
- 8:13Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I don't know. Was it going in?
- 8:16Speaker 4: That's a whole nother question.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Well, Taylor swears. Taylor, our executive producer here swears that
- 8:20Speaker 3: if it wasn't blocked, it wasn't going in anyway.
- 8:22Speaker 1: That was shanked.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Yeah, Matt.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a possibility. Well, listen, I think, you know, I,
- 8:29Speaker 4: I lived in Boston for a while. There's a generation
- 8:31Speaker 4: of great high school quarterbacks coming out of Massachusetts, new England.
- 8:35Speaker 4: I think like the Tom Brady effect.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yep.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I think there's probably a Pat McAfee effect where these
- 8:40Speaker 4: college kids are trying to win like a $ 1. 2 million
- 8:44Speaker 4: every weekend. Yes. There's some dudes that can kick that
- 8:48Speaker 4: are just chilling, probably playing hacky sack in between econ
- 8:52Speaker 4: and philosophy. You know, it's, I don't know, like, didn't
- 8:57Speaker 4: Mike Leach find a kicker that way once upon a time?
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:01Speaker 4: So I know Australia's got it on lockdown for punters
- 9:04Speaker 4: right now, but like, I don't know, maybe there's like
- 9:07Speaker 4: this next generation of, of kickers is, is, is coming
- 9:11Speaker 4: here in America.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I'll get off it in a second, but Longwell is
- 9:13Speaker 3: a guy he's built in a way that would give
- 9:15Speaker 3: me confidence. He's the kind of kicker I want. He
- 9:17Speaker 3: looked athletic. That's all I'm saying.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Golfer. Like the, a lot of those guys look like golfers,
- 9:21Speaker 4: like PGA tour or kicker punter. You're not sure.
- 9:25Speaker 5: Yes.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Yeah. No, I mean, there's, it's, I don't know. It's,
- 9:29Speaker 4: it's harder than it looks. I'll tell you that it's
- 9:31Speaker 4: definitely harder than it looks. The other thing is when
- 9:33Speaker 4: you're a kicker, you're swinging at air, like you're swinging,
- 9:37Speaker 4: you're looking at the spot and then all of a
- 9:39Speaker 4: sudden the ball's there and then it might be spinning.
- 9:41Speaker 4: There's a lot that goes into that thing. So, uh, yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 4: I can remember one time Ryan Longwell got up, I
- 9:46Speaker 4: got a field goal blocked and I, and it was
- 9:49Speaker 4: low and I felt like I was pushing, I don't
- 9:52Speaker 4: have a ball on me right now, but I felt
- 9:53Speaker 4: like I was pushing down on the ball too hard.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:57Speaker 4: And it all like, almost like I sabotaged it. It
- 9:59Speaker 4: was like really bad. weather and whatever green Bay. And
- 10:01Speaker 4: I pushed it down too hard. And he was like, man,
- 10:03Speaker 4: I can't figure out why that ball didn't.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Get up in the air.
- 10:05Speaker 4: And I'm like, I might have an idea.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I'm not going to bring it up right now.
- 10:11Speaker 5: He knew he just wanted you to admit it.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Maybe he's like wicked nice, you know, but like, you know,
- 10:15Speaker 4: it's just one finger on top of the ball. Like,
- 10:18Speaker 4: is it really going to make that much of a difference?
- 10:20Speaker 4: You know.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Whoops. My bad.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Matt, as somebody who got their break in the NFL
- 10:28Speaker 1: as a holder, could you make the argument that the
- 10:31Speaker 1: Jaguars holder should be the MVP right now in MVP conversations?
- 10:35Speaker 2: Yes.
- 10:37Speaker 4: That was huge. That was huge. If you're not sure
- 10:39Speaker 4: what people are talking about, their snapper gets hurt and
- 10:42Speaker 4: you know, they're backup snappers in there, which is like craziness.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Like that's like thrown with your other hand, like having
- 10:49Speaker 4: that guy out there. That was great. That was great.
- 10:51Speaker 4: And I think, you know, to that guy's credit too,
- 10:54Speaker 4: to the new long snapper. Um, and isn't there a
- 10:56Speaker 4: crazy thing right now where like they need a new
- 10:58Speaker 4: long snapper, but they're staying in London. Is that this true?
- 11:01Speaker 3: Yes.
- 11:01Speaker 4: But they got to sign a new long snapper who
- 11:03Speaker 4: happens to have a current passport. Like it's a whole,
- 11:07Speaker 4: you better be ready for like everything. Like literally. Yeah. That's,
- 11:11Speaker 4: that's pretty good.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 4: But I started, listen, I started holding my sophomore year
- 11:15Speaker 4: in high school. That was my way to get on
- 11:17Speaker 4: the field as a sophomore. And then I had a
- 11:20Speaker 4: bad snap like that, a fire call through a two-point
- 11:23Speaker 4: conversion and got a sticker on my helmet. My high
- 11:26Speaker 4: school did the Ohio State stickers. Yes. And all the
- 11:30Speaker 4: cool kids had a sticker, and I had no stickers.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I'm a sophomore.
- 11:34Speaker 4: So I got one sticker that year from a bad snap. Right.
- 11:38Speaker 4: And I fire called through a two-point conversion. So my
- 11:42Speaker 4: first play in the NFL was against Notre Dame on
- 11:44Speaker 4: a fake field goal as a fake holder on a
- 11:46Speaker 4: play called Leprechaun. Uh, when I got to the Packers,
- 11:50Speaker 4: Sean Landetta was the punter and he's like, I'm not
- 11:53Speaker 4: going to hold. I've been punting so long.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I don't want to hold.
- 11:56Speaker 4: And then Doug Peterson left. He was the holder. And
- 11:58Speaker 4: then I was like, Oh, this is my ticket on the,
- 12:00Speaker 4: on the field. So special teams, man, the more you
- 12:02Speaker 4: can do.
- 12:03Speaker 3: I know you had no stickers, but I feel like
- 12:05Speaker 3: you had the last laugh. Is that fair? I mean,
- 12:07Speaker 3: just as opposed to everyone else on that team. You
- 12:11Speaker 3: made it to the NFL, Matt.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Ironically, the guy who was the snapper on that where
- 12:18Speaker 4: I got the fire call, he played in the NFL also.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Greg Camilla, he was Tiki Barber's fullback. He ended up
- 12:24Speaker 4: going to Stanford. And then Harvard Business School. Maybe he
- 12:28Speaker 4: got the last laugh.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 12:31Speaker 3: I'm wondering, I got to tell you one other story.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Sorry to hijack.
- 12:35Speaker 3: No, no, no, no. We love it. You're kidding me.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I'll talk kickers all day and we're.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Playing a team. We're playing a team down in New York.
- 12:40Speaker 4: I want to say it was like Chaminade or one
- 12:42Speaker 4: of those schools. Like we're playing a team down there. And, um,
- 12:46Speaker 4: I think it was them in our snapper was our
- 12:48Speaker 4: running back 34, Greg Camillo. So he snaps the ball,
- 12:51Speaker 4: bad snap, scramble fire drill. I'm looking for The tight end.
- 12:55Speaker 4: I'm looking for the other wing.
- 12:56Speaker 3: No one's there.
- 12:57Speaker 4: I see him standing right there in the middle. Like
- 12:59Speaker 4: no one's covering him because he was the snapper. And
- 13:01Speaker 4: I throw him the ball and the refs are oblivious.
- 13:04Speaker 4: And they're like, yeah, two points. I just scrambled and
- 13:10Speaker 4: I literally threw it to the snapper, but he was
- 13:12Speaker 4: wearing 34. So they're just like, yeah. Feels right. That's
- 13:15Speaker 4: the running back normally.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Don't tell anybody.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Statute of limitations. I feel like we're good now, probably.
- 13:20Speaker 3: They assumed he was good just based on the number?
- 13:22Speaker 4: It was a lot. It was like left, right, found
- 13:25Speaker 4: a guy in the middle.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Like, yeah, all right, sure. It's a heady play by you, Hasselbeck.
- 13:30Speaker 3: I mean, it really is.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Truthfully, it was just desperate times call for desperate measures,
- 13:35Speaker 4: but it worked out. Matt, I'm wondering if I feel
- 13:39Speaker 4: like officiating has never worked out in my favor since
- 13:41Speaker 4: that time. So maybe it was sort of my fault
- 13:44Speaker 4: for not like karma. Sorry, guys.
- 13:46Speaker 3: He was a snapper.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Probably should have raised my hand.
- 13:49Speaker 3: It's illegal. That's so good. I'm wondering, as a former
- 13:53Speaker 3: quarterback of the NFL, do you watch Josh Allen and
- 13:56Speaker 3: Marvel the way we do when we're watching Josh Allen?
- 14:00Speaker 4: You know, it's funny when I watch him, I'm actually
- 14:02Speaker 4: like yelling at the TV, like, come on, Josh, you're
- 14:05Speaker 4: better than that. That was sloppy. Or that was danger.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Like he misses some dudes sometimes. And you're like, come on,
- 14:10Speaker 4: I know you can make that throw. And it looks
- 14:13Speaker 4: like he's saying the same thing to himself. He'll, he'll
- 14:14Speaker 4: be like, you're like, oh my gosh, he was open.
- 14:17Speaker 3: I had him.
- 14:17Speaker 4: I know I can make that throw. Then there's other
- 14:20Speaker 4: times where he's scrambling like end of the game. Your
- 14:23Speaker 4: team just fumbled over time and he's running with one
- 14:26Speaker 4: hand on the ball. And I'm like, bro, protect the ball.
- 14:29Speaker 4: but he, he makes it look easy. He does things
- 14:31Speaker 4: that I could never do. Um, he's, I don't know.
- 14:36Speaker 4: He's really incredible. He makes the hard things look super simple.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Matt, when Drake may plays the way he did in
- 14:41Speaker 1: the second half against Buffalo in this past week against
- 14:43Speaker 1: the Raiders are, are the Patriots in the conversation for
- 14:46Speaker 1: best team in football?
- 14:48Speaker 4: No, no, they're not. Uh, they're improving. They're getting better.
- 14:52Speaker 4: They're no longer, uh, falling off the cliff, but no, they're,
- 14:56Speaker 4: they're certainly not. That's, um, You know, I know Sully
- 14:59Speaker 4: Fitzy and Murph up in New England think they are,
- 15:01Speaker 4: but no, they're not. I'm happy that Drake got back
- 15:04Speaker 4: on track. I'm a huge fan of his. I think
- 15:07Speaker 4: he's awesome. He was trying to do too much. He
- 15:10Speaker 4: was getting frustrated. He wasn't letting the kicker kick. He
- 15:12Speaker 4: wasn't letting their punter punt. And he was kind of
- 15:15Speaker 4: giving these like throw it up for grab type situations.
- 15:18Speaker 4: He ran into a little bit of that at North
- 15:20Speaker 4: Carolina at times where he put the cape on and
- 15:23Speaker 4: quite honestly, like did what Josh Allen did early in
- 15:25Speaker 4: his career. You know, and that's not going to help
- 15:29Speaker 4: you hoist to Lombardi. That's not it. Like, you're going
- 15:32Speaker 4: to need to be special. You're going to need to be, like,
- 15:34Speaker 4: above the X's and O's a lot. But these, like,
- 15:38Speaker 4: no quarterback room that I've ever been in, I played
- 15:40Speaker 4: a long time, no one has ever said 50-50 ball. Like,
- 15:44Speaker 4: that is a defensive term or a TV term. It's, like,
- 15:48Speaker 4: not a thing.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Like, you throw a 50-50 ball in an NFL quarterback room,
- 15:53Speaker 4: that's a minus. Yeah. That's like a no. That's a
- 15:56Speaker 4: D plus.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:58Speaker 4: So that's what he was doing.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:01Speaker 4: He was, in a sense, throwing it up, hope something
- 16:05Speaker 4: good happens.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:06Speaker 4: And I think he learned the hard way, and he's
- 16:08Speaker 4: back on track. So they're a good team, but no. No,
- 16:12Speaker 4: I think that's reserved for like San Fran, Minnesota, Kansas City,
- 16:17Speaker 4: probably Buffalo. I would say those are kind of the
- 16:20Speaker 4: top teams right now.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Throwing it up for grabs is not something we discuss
- 16:24Speaker 3: in a quarterback room.
- 16:25Speaker 6: I mean, no, that's what you do at recess in
- 16:27Speaker 6: middle school. It's called 500 or flyers up. That's, you know,
- 16:33Speaker 6: or DB drills. Like I was a ball boy for
- 16:35Speaker 6: the Patriots growing up. And at first I was working
- 16:38Speaker 6: with the quarterbacks, but then all I was doing was
- 16:40Speaker 6: catching balls.
- 16:41Speaker 4: And so I was like, all right, well, I'd rather throw.
- 16:43Speaker 4: So can I work with the, can I work with
- 16:45Speaker 4: the wide receivers and tight ends? And that was kind
- 16:48Speaker 4: of fun. Well, then they throw me over with the
- 16:49Speaker 4: DBs sometimes and, And that was brutal. It was like,
- 16:52Speaker 4: just throw it up, you know, just throw it up high,
- 16:55Speaker 4: you know, just throw it up. And like, there's no
- 16:58Speaker 4: precision to that. Like, uh, none. It's like, it's like,
- 17:01Speaker 4: it's kind of stupid. It feels, it feels like you're, um,
- 17:05Speaker 4: you know, like shooter tutor, you know, like when you, uh,
- 17:08Speaker 4: When you have a goalie in hockey, like a youth goalie,
- 17:12Speaker 4: if goalies are free, or maybe they do this in
- 17:14Speaker 4: other sports, like you pay all this money to go
- 17:16Speaker 4: to the camp and goalies are free. Like why? Because
- 17:18Speaker 4: you're just like, you're there for them to get a rep.
- 17:21Speaker 4: That's kind of what 50-50 balls are.
- 17:24Speaker 3: What the hell happened to Jaden Daniels and the commanders
- 17:26Speaker 3: towards the end of that game on Sunday?
- 17:30Speaker 4: I have no idea. Like literally for the, I mean,
- 17:33Speaker 4: from the coaching side of it, like I could see
- 17:35Speaker 4: maybe there was just like, No one said anything because
- 17:37Speaker 4: like we all get it.
- 17:39Speaker 5: Right.
- 17:40Speaker 4: There could be a lot of traffic on the headset,
- 17:42Speaker 4: you know, and so like that's a thing. And so
- 17:44Speaker 4: typically when you have a defensive head coach, he's on
- 17:46Speaker 4: the defensive side of the headset. Most of the time
- 17:49Speaker 4: he has a button. He flips over to the offensive side.
- 17:52Speaker 4: I think like CB radio, like walkie talkie.
- 17:55Speaker 5: Right.
- 17:55Speaker 4: It's not like the clearest. It's not like we're talking now.
- 17:59Speaker 4: It's a little like box. you know, we're going to
- 18:01Speaker 4: go spider left, uh, mash, you know, kind of sounds
- 18:04Speaker 4: like that at times, but like, there can be a
- 18:06Speaker 4: lot of people talking. And so sometimes maybe no one's talking.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Cause like, yeah, we all understand what's going on.
- 18:10Speaker 5: Right.
- 18:11Speaker 4: And, um, clearly you would hope that the quarterback would
- 18:16Speaker 4: know what was going on. And so to me, I
- 18:19Speaker 4: have no excuse that I could even, I've tried to like,
- 18:22Speaker 4: in my mind, defend that situation with the quarterback. I
- 18:27Speaker 4: can't like, I live across the street from a middle school.
- 18:31Speaker 4: I promise you, all those middle school kids that play
- 18:34Speaker 4: Madden all day, they know what to do in that situation.
- 18:37Speaker 4: So this idea that, well, it starts at the top down.
- 18:40Speaker 4: No one told me that we needed to throw the
- 18:42Speaker 4: ball away. No one told you? What is this, paint
- 18:44Speaker 4: by numbers? You were the rookie of the year. You
- 18:49Speaker 4: played at LSU. What are you talking about? I don't know.
- 18:55Speaker 4: It's going to haunt them. They're there. It's going to
- 18:57Speaker 4: be like stick in their brain their whole career. And
- 19:01Speaker 4: and I feel like I'm throwing rocks here because, you know,
- 19:04Speaker 4: because I am. I also I also don't live in
- 19:07Speaker 4: a glass house.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Sure.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Like I've screwed up a situation like this. Me and
- 19:11Speaker 4: Sean Alexander, two of the highest paid players on the Seahawks.
- 19:14Speaker 4: We're playing a game down in Arizona and we have
- 19:17Speaker 4: a basically a check with me. It's a run or
- 19:19Speaker 4: a pass. And it's loud, fine, whatever. And game's over.
- 19:23Speaker 4: We just need to run the ball. Well, I say,
- 19:27Speaker 4: let it roll instead of leave it on or something
- 19:29Speaker 4: like that. And Sean gets confused. And it's my fault.
- 19:34Speaker 4: And I go to hand it off. And he thinks
- 19:36Speaker 4: it's a play action. And the ball's on the ground.
- 19:39Speaker 4: And then we're in a dome in Arizona. They kick
- 19:41Speaker 4: a field goal the next play. It's like, what? Whose
- 19:44Speaker 4: fault is that?
- 19:45Speaker 2: Mine.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Can you understand how it happened? Yeah, you could explain it.
- 19:49Speaker 4: But it's my fault. And his fault, but my fault. Really.
- 19:53Speaker 4: And I still remember it. This will be that for them.
- 19:58Speaker 4: This will be like, man, we screwed that up so bad.
- 20:01Speaker 4: It's embarrassing, is what it is. It's embarrassing. And they're
- 20:05Speaker 4: not alone this week. There was some bad ball, situationally.
- 20:08Speaker 3: Taylor thinks that every team should have a Madden coordinator
- 20:11Speaker 3: on the sidelines. What do you think?
- 20:14Speaker 4: Listen, I joke with people about this, but there are people,
- 20:18Speaker 4: especially people who work in TV, and they know a
- 20:21Speaker 4: lot about situational football. It's literally their job to watch TV.
- 20:27Speaker 4: They also know when to throw the challenge flag. The
- 20:31Speaker 4: guy who's the producer of College Game Day right now,
- 20:33Speaker 4: his name is Matt Garrett. I think an NFL team
- 20:35Speaker 4: should hire him. this dude knows exactly how many cameras
- 20:41Speaker 4: are in the stadium. If there's a pylon cam, if
- 20:43Speaker 4: there's a high end zone away, if camera seven's over here,
- 20:46Speaker 4: like all the stuff, like he would say like, Oh,
- 20:49Speaker 4: primetime game, throw the challenge flag. Uh, Oh, one o'clock
- 20:52Speaker 4: game in Jacksonville. Like, no, don't challenge it. There's not
- 20:55Speaker 4: enough cameras for that one. Like it just, I actually
- 20:58Speaker 4: think you're onto something. And, um, teams do hire people
- 21:02Speaker 4: for that. Like they usually hire someone from like the
- 21:04Speaker 4: league office or a former referee or retired coach, but
- 21:08Speaker 4: no outside the box. I think the, the dude who
- 21:11Speaker 4: wears a Jersey and, and has a couple of Bud
- 21:14Speaker 4: lights and sits on his couch and watch his red
- 21:16Speaker 4: zone channel. Like maybe that might be your best bet.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Matt for as bad as that giants commanders game ending was,
- 21:24Speaker 1: it feels like the NFC East is just as bad.
- 21:27Speaker 1: What team in the NFC East do you have the
- 21:29Speaker 1: most confidence in? Hmm.
- 21:33Speaker 4: That's a tough one. It was a tough weekend for them.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Yes. Well, the Giants got away with one.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:41Speaker 4: You know, I would think that Philly and Dallas would
- 21:45Speaker 4: be the teams. Probably Dallas, maybe. I mean, I don't know.
- 21:49Speaker 4: I mean, I'm going with what I expect out of
- 21:52Speaker 4: that offense. I expect that offense in Dallas to be better.
- 21:55Speaker 4: I do think there's a little bit of a recalibration.
- 21:59Speaker 4: So you talk about Dallas and Philly. I think there's
- 22:01Speaker 4: a little bit of a recalibration for veteran coaches. Coaches
- 22:04Speaker 4: have been coaching a long time for end of game
- 22:06Speaker 4: situations with the new kickoff rule. So there's two things
- 22:09Speaker 4: in kicking right now. The new kickoff rule is very unique.
- 22:14Speaker 4: You know, the touchbacks and like, you know, you could,
- 22:16Speaker 4: you guys could run it out and all of a
- 22:18Speaker 4: sudden your kicker has to kick. There's also this situation
- 22:20Speaker 4: with the cable where the NFL doesn't make the kickers
- 22:25Speaker 4: kick the balls right out of the bag. Like brand
- 22:27Speaker 4: new footballs are hard to throw. They're hard to kick.
- 22:29Speaker 4: But if you can break them in, you can rub
- 22:31Speaker 4: them down, lather them up, you know, basically think about
- 22:34Speaker 4: like breaking a baseball glove. It's night and day or
- 22:38Speaker 4: breaking in a hockey goalie glove. It's night and day.
- 22:41Speaker 4: And so like these kickers can absolutely bomb end of
- 22:44Speaker 4: the game field goals. Like I'm talking 70 yarders in
- 22:47Speaker 4: practice are absolutely a thing. You don't see it during
- 22:51Speaker 4: the normal first four quarters because if a guy misses,
- 22:54Speaker 4: you give the ball back, you know, with great field position.
- 22:57Speaker 4: But at the end of the game situation where time's expiring,
- 23:01Speaker 4: I think they've got to recalibrate. So Philly got burned
- 23:04Speaker 4: with Nick Sirianni in London against Jacksonville, and then Dallas
- 23:07Speaker 4: got burned, I think, against Baltimore. So that's just two examples.
- 23:12Speaker 4: You kind of have to learn the hard way.
- 23:14Speaker 3: What do you make of Eagle fans wanting to fire
- 23:16Speaker 3: Nick Sirianni?
- 23:18Speaker 4: Bad idea. I think he's really– he takes the bullets
- 23:23Speaker 4: in a sense. He's the bad guy. But, you know,
- 23:26Speaker 4: in a similar way that I was really annoyed with
- 23:28Speaker 4: Jaden Daniels, what happened on the field, and then he
- 23:32Speaker 4: didn't really take accountability. He's like, well, it starts top down,
- 23:35Speaker 4: but ultimately it's on me. It's like, dude, that was
- 23:38Speaker 4: so pathetic. Like, that was weak. Like, either take accountability
- 23:42Speaker 4: or don't. I thought Nick Sirianni, who really didn't need
- 23:46Speaker 4: to take all the accountability, he was like, that's nobody's
- 23:48Speaker 4: fault but mine. That is absolutely mine. I just apologize
- 23:51Speaker 4: to every guy in the locker room. They played their
- 23:54Speaker 4: butts off. They gave it everything they had. I made
- 23:57Speaker 4: a bad decision that cost us the game and I'm
- 23:59Speaker 4: sick about it. He was like in near tears about it. Like,
- 24:01Speaker 4: that's how you do it. He lost the game, but
- 24:03Speaker 4: won the presser and won the team. And that's why
- 24:06Speaker 4: guys love a guy like that. And so, I don't know,
- 24:10Speaker 4: even if it's not this year, like it could be
- 24:12Speaker 4: two years from now when you make a mistake, you're like,
- 24:15Speaker 4: you know what? He set the example. I'm going to take,
- 24:18Speaker 4: I'm going to look in the mirror and I'm going to,
- 24:20Speaker 4: I'm going to face it at the podium. in a
- 24:23Speaker 4: closed player's holding meeting, like whatever it is. So no,
- 24:27Speaker 4: I think I, he's, he's a good coach.
- 24:29Speaker 5: Yep.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Matt, there's no better time right now to be a
- 24:32Speaker 1: college athlete with NIL, but if I had to pick
- 24:35Speaker 1: a second era I would want to be a college athlete,
- 24:37Speaker 1: it would be in the 90s just because of the
- 24:39Speaker 1: video games you guys had. What would you say is
- 24:41Speaker 1: your Mount Rushmore video games?
- 24:43Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 24:44Speaker 4: Sega Genesis, NHL, 95. There's some arguing there, but Sega Genesis, NHL,
- 24:50Speaker 4: 95 is super strong. Obviously, like Madden, I don't know
- 24:54Speaker 4: the year, probably 97 would be my favorite year, but Uh, um, um,
- 24:59Speaker 4: I could be talked into the year on that one.
- 25:01Speaker 4: And then bill Walsh college football was pretty good, but
- 25:03Speaker 4: I left out, uh, super tech mobile, uh, on, on
- 25:07Speaker 4: the Nintendo system. So, um, we had this thing in my,
- 25:11Speaker 4: when I, my college experience, we played NHL, 95 manual
- 25:14Speaker 4: goalie trades, all the thing, the trade, the draft was
- 25:17Speaker 4: the best part. But, um, our rule was whoever won
- 25:22Speaker 4: the last game got to pick the music. So I'm
- 25:24Speaker 4: from Boston. I did not grow up listening to country music. Well,
- 25:27Speaker 4: there was a dude from Maryland that absolutely was the
- 25:31Speaker 4: best NHL 95 player. And another one of our roommates
- 25:34Speaker 4: also from Maryland, he was our second best player. So
- 25:37Speaker 4: basically all we've ever listened to was country music. And
- 25:39Speaker 4: after a while, the whole eight man became like country
- 25:42Speaker 4: music fans because we were just playing hours and hours
- 25:45Speaker 4: of NHL 95 and, uh, and, and winning 25% of
- 25:46Speaker 4: the time. But yes, that's a good answer.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Um, before we get to, um, team impact and we
- 25:56Speaker 3: got a game for you here, uh, is San Francisco.
- 25:59Speaker 3: And I'm sorry to ask you this because it was
- 26:01Speaker 3: a big win, uh, at Seattle, but it's San Francisco,
- 26:04Speaker 3: the best team in the NFL. Yeah, they are right now.
- 26:07Speaker 4: I think that week eight is when you get the, like,
- 26:09Speaker 4: what are we in week five? We just had week five.
- 26:11Speaker 4: I think week eight's the best determinator of kind of
- 26:15Speaker 4: who really stinks and then who's really for real. I
- 26:19Speaker 4: think that's probably where I wouldn't overreact until week eight.
- 26:23Speaker 4: You know, Bill Belichick famously said, real football starts after Thanksgiving.
- 26:26Speaker 4: I don't know if that's true, but if you look
- 26:29Speaker 4: at week eight with all the metrics, that's when you
- 26:31Speaker 4: can think about booking your flights to L.A., I guess
- 26:35Speaker 4: it is, or think about, you know, who's going to
- 26:38Speaker 4: have the first pick overall. But, yeah, right now, I
- 26:41Speaker 4: think the 49ers are the best team. I actually thought
- 26:43Speaker 4: they were the best team going into the Seattle game,
- 26:45Speaker 4: and they're not even at full strength. They don't have Juszczyk.
- 26:48Speaker 4: I think Bosa's banged up. They played– without one of
- 26:51Speaker 4: their best linebackers. Cause he got suspended during the game. Uh,
- 26:54Speaker 4: and that was on the road. I think Brock Purdy's
- 26:56Speaker 4: a candidate for MVP right now. It's early. I know, but, uh,
- 27:00Speaker 4: he's exceptional way underrated. So, um, yeah, I think they're
- 27:05Speaker 4: for real.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Uh, tell us about team impact and what you're doing there, man.
- 27:08Speaker 4: Yeah. Team impact is an incredible organization. It's, uh, paired
- 27:12Speaker 4: up in the NCAA world. It pairs kids with disease
- 27:16Speaker 4: or disability with athletic teams. Um, UConn basketball, Boston College lacrosse,
- 27:23Speaker 4: UCLA football, like you name it. And it gives something
- 27:27Speaker 4: to these kids with disease and disability, something that medicine
- 27:29Speaker 4: could never give them. It also, I've seen this firsthand,
- 27:33Speaker 4: gives these athletes who in this NIL world, in this
- 27:36Speaker 4: transfer portal world, it's all about you. It gives them
- 27:39Speaker 4: a perspective of something that is so much bigger than
- 27:42Speaker 4: what they're going through. And it's not all about them.
- 27:45Speaker 4: So It's an incredible organization. teamimpact.org is the website. If
- 27:50Speaker 4: your college or university isn't a part of it, they
- 27:53Speaker 4: absolutely should be. They have fun events. They've got one
- 27:56Speaker 4: in Boston, a sneaker ball. They've got one in Chicago
- 27:58Speaker 4: in November. They've got one out in LA. It's a
- 28:02Speaker 4: great organization. And it's kind of like those things that
- 28:06Speaker 4: you do, not to rip on other organizations, but where
- 28:09Speaker 4: they come in for a day and it's a photo
- 28:11Speaker 4: shoot and it's an experience. These kids get drafted to
- 28:14Speaker 4: the team. They sign a two-year commitment at that school,
- 28:17Speaker 4: which is more than I can say for a lot
- 28:19Speaker 4: of athletes who are one and done. So it's really special.
- 28:23Speaker 4: It's special for everybody.
- 28:25Speaker 3: That is great work, man. Taylor, let's see if we
- 28:27Speaker 3: can connect him with North Carolina. He needs our help.
- 28:30Speaker 3: Or maybe Northwestern. I got you at Northwestern, okay?
- 28:33Speaker 4: Okay, great.
- 28:34Speaker 3: And we're going to play a game, one table in
- 28:37Speaker 3: just a second. CTE study, what's happening there?
- 28:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:40Speaker 4: So CTE study, I'm part of this study. Um, it basically,
- 28:44Speaker 4: if you're 50 years old or older and you played
- 28:46Speaker 4: college football or more, but just had to play college football,
- 28:50Speaker 4: there's a two day study that you can sign up
- 28:52Speaker 4: for that is, uh, it's really kind of paying it forward.
- 28:55Speaker 4: So basically, uh, you spend two days at a, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 4: neurocog thing. You do a brain MRI, you do a
- 29:00Speaker 4: PET scan, they take blood, you do some neurocog testing,
- 29:03Speaker 4: similar to like a concussion test. And they, um, Try
- 29:07Speaker 4: to get a baseline. Basically, it's this. There's so much
- 29:10Speaker 4: bad publicity out there with head trauma in certain sports,
- 29:14Speaker 4: football being one. But my feeling is they're only studying
- 29:17Speaker 4: the bad brains. They're only studying the people that are symptomatic.
- 29:20Speaker 4: So to get a better medical kind of look at everything,
- 29:25Speaker 4: you need to study more people, more brains, people that
- 29:27Speaker 4: are asymptomatic, people like me that I don't have anything
- 29:31Speaker 4: that I'm complaining about.
- 29:32Speaker 3: But who knows?
- 29:33Speaker 4: I played 18 years in the NFL. I might have
- 29:35Speaker 4: some issues. So whatever the data says, the data says.
- 29:39Speaker 4: But we're looking for volunteers for that. It's diagnosecte.org is
- 29:44Speaker 4: the website. And it's kind of fun because for you,
- 29:48Speaker 4: it kind of tells you where you're at. So quite honestly,
- 29:50Speaker 4: for me, in my situation, I turned 50 and I
- 29:52Speaker 4: was expecting sort of bad results. And I get great results.
- 29:56Speaker 4: And so Um, I don't know. It was like, it
- 29:59Speaker 4: was almost comforting in a way, but that wasn't my,
- 30:01Speaker 4: my intention. My intention was to kind of, um, I
- 30:04Speaker 4: don't know, lend my help to science, especially the guys
- 30:07Speaker 4: that are dealing with stuff, probably the guys that protected
- 30:10Speaker 4: me more than, um, than the, you know, they took
- 30:13Speaker 4: more hits than I did. So that was, that was
- 30:14Speaker 4: really my motivation for signing up for it in the
- 30:17Speaker 4: first spot.
- 30:18Speaker 5: I actually have a friend who signed up for it
- 30:20Speaker 5: and he's very appreciative for the work you're doing. So I,
- 30:23Speaker 5: I I want to pass along that.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Well, the cool thing about it is that they, they
- 30:26Speaker 4: hope that they can diagnose CT while you're still alive
- 30:29Speaker 4: right now. You can only diagnose it when you're after
- 30:31Speaker 4: you're dead. And the other thing is they're hoping we
- 30:33Speaker 4: can differentiate CTE from other forms of dementia, like Alzheimer's
- 30:38Speaker 4: or things like that. And that would be a game changer,
- 30:40Speaker 4: not just for athletes, but for anybody who's, who's, uh,
- 30:44Speaker 4: you know, had a loved one or something like that,
- 30:45Speaker 4: that's suffered from Alzheimer's or something. It's a terrible disease.
- 30:49Speaker 4: So the more that we can learn, uh, you know,
- 30:51Speaker 4: the quicker we can find cures.
- 30:52Speaker 3: All right, let's get to the game here. Taylor, give
- 30:54Speaker 3: me the imaging.
- 30:56Speaker 2: There's one table left at the hottest spot in town,
- 31:00Speaker 2: and everybody wants it. Who's getting it, and who's getting
- 31:05Speaker 2: left outside? Greatness gets seated. Everyone else waits. This is
- 31:12Speaker 2: one table.
- 31:13Speaker 3: All right, so we're at Hasselback Steakhouse in Seattle, okay,
- 31:16Speaker 3: and there's one table remaining. and two people are walking
- 31:20Speaker 3: in at the same time. There's one chair. That's it, Matt.
- 31:22Speaker 3: You have to decide who gets the table, who gets
- 31:24Speaker 3: the seat. Taylor, take it away here. Why isn't there
- 31:28Speaker 3: a Hasselback Steakhouse in Seattle, by the way?
- 31:31Speaker 4: I'll tell you why, because there's El Gaucho, which is
- 31:33Speaker 4: a cowboy. But it's really seafood, but you can get
- 31:36Speaker 4: an awesome steak there, too. So if you're ever in Seattle,
- 31:39Speaker 4: El Gaucho is your spot.
- 31:40Speaker 3: All right, here we go.
- 31:42Speaker 1: So, Matt, Steve Largent walks in. Jackson Smith and Jigba
- 31:47Speaker 1: walks in. Who gets the table?
- 31:48Speaker 4: Wow. You know what? I'm going to say JSN because
- 31:52Speaker 4: I see Mr. Largent all the time. He's like, we're
- 31:55Speaker 4: like this, man. I got one autographed helmet in my
- 32:00Speaker 4: office here, actually, too. But Steve Largent's one of them.
- 32:04Speaker 4: That's my guy. I love him. But I see him
- 32:07Speaker 4: all the time. We're buddies.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I know. But you're telling your guy, get out
- 32:10Speaker 3: of your restaurant. I mean. I mean, we could do lunch.
- 32:13Speaker 4: We'll go for a power walk together. You know, we're good.
- 32:16Speaker 3: All right. Mikey.
- 32:19Speaker 4: By the way, all-time best play ever is Steve Largent's
- 32:24Speaker 4: hit on Mike Harden with the Broncos. NFL films it
- 32:28Speaker 4: or YouTube it. It's a sick story. Amazing play.
- 32:32Speaker 3: We'll check it out. Go ahead, Mikey.
- 32:35Speaker 5: Walter Jones walks in and Cortez Kennedy walks in.
- 32:40Speaker 4: Well, Tez is my guy. Rest in peace. He was amazing.
- 32:43Speaker 4: And Walter Jones does this really cool thing on September
- 32:45Speaker 4: 6th every year, 9-6. So Tez was number 96, where
- 32:50Speaker 4: you check in on your friends and check in on
- 32:52Speaker 4: your teammates. And so I never was a teammate of Cortez's.
- 32:56Speaker 4: but he was always in our locker room. He was
- 32:59Speaker 4: always in the equipment room during lunch and he'd be
- 33:01Speaker 4: a guy you'd sit down with. And, uh, you know,
- 33:04Speaker 4: it felt like a teammate and we were never teammates.
- 33:06Speaker 4: It's very rare that quarterbacks get along with D linemen,
- 33:10Speaker 4: but he was, uh, he was special like that. And
- 33:12Speaker 4: so I think Walt would be mad at me if
- 33:14Speaker 4: I didn't pick Tez, but, uh, but Walter Jones has
- 33:17Speaker 4: the best laugh, uh, on the planet. It's kind of like, uh,
- 33:21Speaker 4: was that movie with Sherman clump, you know, Eddie Murphy,
- 33:24Speaker 4: you know, like he's got like that kind of a laugh.
- 33:28Speaker 4: It's an amazing laugh. It's very infectious.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Yes.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Russell Wilson walks in. Sam Darnold walks in who gets
- 33:35Speaker 1: the table.
- 33:35Speaker 3: No Sierra. Wow.
- 33:38Speaker 4: I think I'm going Sam Darnold because I feel like
- 33:42Speaker 4: there's a couple little nuggets that I would like. I
- 33:44Speaker 4: feel like veteran quarterbacks are guys that had made mistakes,
- 33:47Speaker 4: kind of like leaned into me and said some things.
- 33:50Speaker 4: And I see Sam right now, And I just think
- 33:53Speaker 4: he's on the edge of playing great football. And, like,
- 33:56Speaker 4: you know, I just watched this game last week. I mean,
- 34:00Speaker 4: the ball was on the ground too much as an offense.
- 34:02Speaker 4: We took way too many sacks. I feel like there's
- 34:04Speaker 4: some little Mike Holmgren nuggets that I would just love to, like,
- 34:07Speaker 4: lean into Sam on. And, you know, hopefully they get
- 34:12Speaker 4: back to, you know, potentially being the one seed in
- 34:14Speaker 4: the NFC.
- 34:15Speaker 3: All right. I have one. We'll get you out of here.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Marshawn Lynch walks in. Richard Sherman walks in. Well, uh,
- 34:21Speaker 3: this is easy for him. Tough one. Oh, wow. Tough one.
- 34:23Speaker 4: I don't, I don't drug test anymore, so I don't
- 34:25Speaker 4: have to worry about secondhand smoke. I'm just thinking out
- 34:28Speaker 4: loud here.
- 34:29Speaker 3: I mean, stop saying that about both those guys.
- 34:32Speaker 4: I'm going to, I'm going to, no, I was really
- 34:34Speaker 4: referring to Marshawn. I don't know about Sherm. Marshawn, I
- 34:37Speaker 4: do know about. I'm going to probably have dinner with Sherm.
- 34:42Speaker 4: I'm probably have dinner with Sherm. He's, uh, I feel
- 34:44Speaker 4: like it's a more predictable dinner. I love Marshawn, but, uh,
- 34:49Speaker 4: But who knows? I don't know where we're going. I
- 34:51Speaker 4: don't know how dinner will go. But I love both
- 34:55Speaker 4: those guys. But I'll take Sherm to dinner.
- 34:57Speaker 3: All right. I lied to you, Mikey. He has one more.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Go ahead, Mikey.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Sean Alexander walks in.
- 35:03Speaker 5: Ken Griffey Jr.
- 35:04Speaker 4: Walks in. Ooh. Ooh, man. I'll probably go Sean Alexander.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:10Speaker 4: Go Sean Alexander. Here's why. I love Jr. He's super fun.
- 35:15Speaker 4: He's an avid photographer now, I think. Uh, Sean has
- 35:18Speaker 4: like 13 kids, his wife, Valerie, we call her St. Val. And, uh,
- 35:23Speaker 4: we're kind of aligned on some things that we're doing
- 35:25Speaker 4: post football. And I would love to maybe talk about
- 35:28Speaker 4: those things. Also get an update on his children, which, uh,
- 35:33Speaker 4: that's a lot of kids. My mom was one of 12,
- 35:35Speaker 4: but I, it might even be 14. I'm not even
- 35:37Speaker 4: sure the number at this point, but he makes Phillip
- 35:39Speaker 4: rivers look like the rest of us. So, uh, I'll,
- 35:42Speaker 4: I'll sit down with Sean. He needs a night out.
- 35:44Speaker 2: All right.
- 35:44Speaker 3: I'll squeeze it. One more Sean camp, Gary Payton.
- 35:48Speaker 4: I think the glove, you know, the glove and Dana
- 35:50Speaker 4: Barrows were my two favorite players when I was in Boston.
- 35:54Speaker 4: The glove played at Oregon State, I think.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 35:57Speaker 4: And Dana Barrows went to Zavarian Brothers High School where
- 35:59Speaker 4: I went.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 36:00Speaker 4: And then Boston College where I went.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Yes.
- 36:02Speaker 4: And he was hitting threes before there was a three
- 36:04Speaker 4: point line. And I think he scored like 80 points
- 36:07Speaker 4: in a game one time. So that was the Supersonics. Ironically,
- 36:11Speaker 4: were one of my teams before I ever showed up
- 36:13Speaker 4: in Seattle.
- 36:14Speaker 3: All right, Matt, we appreciate it. Team Impact, check out.
- 36:16Speaker 3: Give those websites out again, if you don't mind, before
- 36:18Speaker 3: you get out of here.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Yeah, so teamimpact.org and diagnosecte.org, two very different organizations, but
- 36:26Speaker 4: both doing really important work. You know, I can't say enough.
- 36:31Speaker 4: Can't say enough.
- 36:31Speaker 3: All right, keep up the great work. We appreciate your time, man.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Always fun. We'll do it again soon. I can't have
- 36:35Speaker 3: you on here enough, man. You're fun.
- 36:37Speaker 4: This is fun. You guys are fun. I talk too much.
- 36:39Speaker 4: I'd like to hear from you guys next time, but
- 36:41Speaker 4: this is great. NHL 95, I'm feeling it, you know?
- 36:45Speaker 4: The Canadians versus the picture team.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Blackhawks probably? I don't know. What, do you have Geek Carbino?
- 36:53Speaker 3: I'll take Roenick, and I'll beat you. I'm good.
- 36:55Speaker 4: All right. Yeah, unstoppable.
- 36:57Speaker 3: All right, well, we'll set it up sometime. We'll play
- 36:59Speaker 3: a game, you and I.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Great, great.
- 37:01Speaker 5: See ya.
