- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, Well, firstly, a
- 0:08Speaker 1: big shot out to Keith McPherson for putting on an
- 0:12Speaker 1: incredible watch party for Game four. And wherever you watch tonight,
- 0:16Speaker 1: we are in symbiosis with you, Keith, Caleb Kaylin, and
- 0:24Speaker 1: wherever you may be watch tonight, we are in symbiosis
- 0:26Speaker 1: because guess what, we all watched this team get one
- 0:31Speaker 1: step closer to the World Series, and that hasn't happened
- 0:35Speaker 1: since the beginning of the Sports Hour.
- 0:41Speaker 2: All day to day, I've been having chills.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I've been having feelings of what happened to day we've
- 0:46Speaker 1: clinched the AOCS in twenty nine because I was there
- 0:52Speaker 1: with my dad in the sweets at Yankee Stadium as
- 0:56Speaker 1: a guest of the Steinberner family, and this was the
- 1:00Speaker 1: alecs they won for George Seimerner one more time in
- 1:04Speaker 1: the house that yes, mister Steimeriner belts against the Angels.
- 1:11Speaker 1: And though I'm eighteen, I was, you know eighteen at
- 1:16Speaker 1: the time, just turning eighteen, I felt like a kid.
- 1:21Speaker 1: And fifteen years later, I feel like that inner child
- 1:24Speaker 1: of the Regius years. That nine season is back and
- 1:32Speaker 1: so now they don't want to say thanks to throwing
- 1:33Speaker 1: a great watch party. And Keith is two and zero
- 1:36Speaker 1: when throwing watch parties, got to throw that out there.
- 1:38Speaker 1: He threw one in the Alds they won. That was
- 1:41Speaker 1: a special guest tell in Matanzas against the Royals. He
- 1:45Speaker 1: threw one last night, they win.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Maybe he should do more.
- 1:48Speaker 1: He seems like a good luck drive there for the
- 1:51Speaker 1: inks and it's our our repby X community. But I
- 1:57Speaker 1: want to say more importantly thank you to firstly Gabby
- 2:01Speaker 1: who has to deal with all my Yankee jerseys from
- 2:04Speaker 1: start to finish, all my shirts because I love wearing
- 2:08Speaker 1: them most every day, but she lets me embrace that
- 2:12Speaker 1: inner child. Is it really in her child to wear
- 2:14Speaker 1: a jersey as an adult though? Or can we just
- 2:16Speaker 1: accept that wearing an adult a jersey as an adult
- 2:20Speaker 1: is not childless, It's just part of who we are.
- 2:26Speaker 2: And then.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I want to thank the RepA community for allowing me
- 2:34Speaker 1: to share those moments from my childhood and making me
- 2:39Speaker 1: feel like it's okay to embrace that inner child, right
- 2:43Speaker 1: jam Pearl, Right John, It's okay to embrace that inner child.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Be around people who allow you to embrace.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Something that excites you and tells you it's okay to
- 2:54Speaker 1: wear that jersey, It's okay to be this fanatic about
- 2:59Speaker 1: the Yankee or the Mets if you want. It's okay
- 3:03Speaker 1: to be that bunch of a fan, no matter how
- 3:06Speaker 1: old do you get. You know why, because this sport,
- 3:09Speaker 1: specifically baseball, is a lineage, historical, passed down generation to
- 3:15Speaker 1: generation sport. All these people, men and women who have
- 3:19Speaker 1: the love of the game love it because they were
- 3:24Speaker 1: brought into it by their family, by their dads, their moms,
- 3:29Speaker 1: probably their grandparents. How did you get into this world
- 3:34Speaker 1: of baseball that we all love? Alex at alex GNYC
- 3:37Speaker 1: dot com for me, while my mom says, I was
- 3:40Speaker 1: kicking in the womb at Chase Stadium. And sure enough,
- 3:46Speaker 1: tomorrow's October twentieth, that happens to be the anniversary of
- 3:50Speaker 1: the Mets parade. It also happens to be my thirty
- 3:52Speaker 1: third birthday. So the nineteen sixty nine Mets fifty five
- 3:57Speaker 1: years ago might have been still a little orange and
- 3:59Speaker 1: blue in my blood from a very you know, even
- 4:03Speaker 1: before I was a conception, because well they were down
- 4:10Speaker 1: Canyon of Heroes on my birth date, October twentieth, fifty
- 4:14Speaker 1: five years ago. How unbelievable is that? And I've won
- 4:20Speaker 1: the Orange and Blue. I love the pinstripes. I just
- 4:23Speaker 1: love the sport of baseball. And I love his Beselli
- 4:27Speaker 1: when the Yanks, as I've said, I predominantly Yankee fan.
- 4:31Speaker 1: When the Yankees win the way they're doing it right now,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and I love that John Carlow who has seemingly been
- 4:40Speaker 1: blessed by my dad. There is a picture of my
- 4:43Speaker 1: dad walking out of the Yankee stadium in twenty twenty
- 4:46Speaker 1: two with his famous you know, game day cups, souvenir cups,
- 4:52Speaker 1: and a Stanton jersey right next to him. That's a
- 4:55Speaker 1: sign because this is my first postseason without my my dad.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And fifteen years ago we were there together watching the
- 5:07Speaker 1: Aocs watching the World Series, and I know he's watching
- 5:12Speaker 1: them from above while Gaby and I watch here on Earth,
- 5:17Speaker 1: and while.
- 5:17Speaker 2: We watched last night with everybody around us.
- 5:20Speaker 1: That have welcomed us in the family, Keith Caleb, Jake
- 5:24Speaker 1: Coosak of the Bronx Zoo, Madison, we've seen.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Her over the year two.
- 5:31Speaker 1: So all I know is be around people who are
- 5:41Speaker 1: going to be as excited as you are. That It's
- 5:45Speaker 1: gonna possibly be a clincher tonight. As excited as you
- 5:48Speaker 1: are that this baseball team is making the postseason run
- 5:52Speaker 1: like the Yankees are, and excited as you are for sports,
- 5:56Speaker 1: and don't make them let you feel oldish because of it.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I might be talking.
- 6:06Speaker 1: About my experience because I know I'm four foot nine,
- 6:08Speaker 1: which is a little short of the most and most
- 6:11Speaker 1: males certainly, so wearing a jersey might make me look
- 6:17Speaker 1: like a kid with the hat and everything. But this
- 6:22Speaker 1: is full blown adulthood from me wearing this jersey at
- 6:26Speaker 1: four foot nine and at thirty two years old, almost
- 6:32Speaker 1: thirty three tomorrow. That is my culture. I've talked about this.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Wearing the jersey is a cultural thing. It bonds us
- 6:47Speaker 1: together as New Yorkers, no matter how old we are.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So while I'm turning thirty three tomorrow, you bet your ass,
- 6:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep wearing that jersey. I'm gonna keep wearing
- 6:59Speaker 1: that that is memorabilia or apparel. I guess that apparel.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep talking about Fanatics. I'm gonna drop another
- 7:07Speaker 1: Fanatics affiliate link on the link below, because I believe
- 7:10Speaker 1: you too should be able to enjoy this moment in
- 7:14Speaker 1: your right gear and not be judged for it. This
- 7:22Speaker 1: is a kid's game, and it's okay to embrace that
- 7:26Speaker 1: inner child that we were all excited to be, you know,
- 7:31Speaker 1: having baseball and raised on baseball. Just ask Johnna and
- 7:36Speaker 1: just ask you know, Caleb and Jake Kosak, who's in
- 7:40Speaker 1: a picture of him in the Yankee dugout when he
- 7:42Speaker 1: was a kid. It's not childish to love your team.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And as a four foot nine, thirty three year old
- 7:57Speaker 1: in male tomorrow.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I will continue to love those teams and let the
- 8:07Speaker 2: naysayers say what they want.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But this is adulthood for me, and it's part of
- 8:20Speaker 1: how I've been able to interview Nester Cortez and Oswald
- 8:24Speaker 1: of Kaburra and the gentle manager of the Yankees by
- 8:27Speaker 1: being that passionate for our teams. And so I want
- 8:33Speaker 1: to thank again everyone for lame me be, lame us
- 8:37Speaker 1: into their world, for showing us that we belong, showing
- 8:43Speaker 1: me that I belong in the REPBX community as quirky
- 8:48Speaker 1: and as weird or whatever you want to say, as
- 8:51Speaker 1: I might be, you accept me for me and I
- 8:58Speaker 1: love that. And so tomorrow the headline I want to
- 9:02Speaker 1: see on October twentieth, twenty twenty four, on the New
- 9:05Speaker 1: York Post on the dayler news is the Yanks are
- 9:08Speaker 1: World Series bound. That's the headline I want to wake
- 9:11Speaker 1: up to tomorrow, and I'm sure you do as well.
- 9:15Speaker 1: And it'll be an incredible birthday present from this Yankee team.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And it's not the first time the Yankees and the
- 9:30Speaker 1: LCS have hit on my birthday. Weekend twenty three years ago,
- 9:39Speaker 1: after the Yanks won the Alds against Oakland, I was
- 9:43Speaker 1: downstairs and the Yankees catacombs the Yankee Stadium, and who
- 9:49Speaker 1: comes by with George Steinberner And we'd already met him,
- 9:51Speaker 1: and he has I've been the suite and we happened
- 9:53Speaker 1: to talk to him. And I'm nine years old turning ten,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and I say, hey, mister Seyberner, you know this Saturday,
- 10:00Speaker 1: I have a birthday coming up. He's like, oh, well,
- 10:04Speaker 1: we'll have a birthday cake for you. Well, wouldn't you
- 10:08Speaker 1: know it's Saturday, October twentieth, two thousand and one, the
- 10:12Speaker 1: day I mean, the day of the Freedom Concert in
- 10:17Speaker 1: the LSS against the Mariners. My dad and I go
- 10:21Speaker 1: upstairs in the third inning and he was like where
- 10:26Speaker 1: are you, guys, I've been wind take you so long
- 10:27Speaker 1: to get up here. We have your cake for you,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and that Yankee is sweet saying happy birthday, And that's
- 10:38Speaker 1: a memory I carry with me twenty three years later.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And the friendship with the Yankees, the friends with George Semer,
- 10:45Speaker 1: there's another reason why I am always excited. I'm perfectly
- 10:55Speaker 1: fine with parting up that putting on that Yankee jersey
- 11:00Speaker 1: game we go to every watch party we go to,
- 11:04Speaker 1: because it's part of my identity. The time whiner era
- 11:07Speaker 1: and the Yankee connection is part of my identity as
- 11:10Speaker 1: much as having one leg up on sports, adaptability, accountability, accessibility.
- 11:17Speaker 2: The Yankees are part of my identity. And of course, the.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Woman who's supported it all enable it all got me
- 11:32Speaker 1: Jersey after jersey, my mom, Marie Sue Brockway. She's the
- 11:40Speaker 1: reason why I'm here today and then why I have
- 11:44Speaker 1: one leg up on life. And I love her and
- 11:49Speaker 1: I'm so grateful for.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Her and.
- 11:55Speaker 1: The last ten years, real quick, I haven't always felt
- 12:02Speaker 1: like an adult son because of the medical challenges, because
- 12:06Speaker 1: I lean on her for her wisdom, for her.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Knowledge extensive history of my medical care. That she is
- 12:18Speaker 2: the go to, but thirty three is gonna be so sacred.
- 12:27Speaker 1: That I will work on it and knowing the history
- 12:30Speaker 1: myself so that I can know more about me, and
- 12:38Speaker 1: it'll be treating my body sacred as well, because I
- 12:44Speaker 1: can't root for the Yanks. I can't root for postason
- 12:46Speaker 1: baseball if I don't treat my body like a temple.
- 12:51Speaker 1: And thirty three feels so sacred to me that that's
- 12:58Speaker 1: where the start of adulthood beat for me. And I
- 13:00Speaker 1: am explaining that here. I may be short, i may
- 13:11Speaker 1: have the Yankee apparelel all the time, but I'm just
- 13:14Speaker 1: trying to adult like anybody else. So thank God the
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yanks are giving us this postseason run to bring us
- 13:24Speaker 1: joy while we adult. How about that twenty three years
- 13:28Speaker 1: ago they were bringing u Stoy through sorrow. Twenty three
- 13:31Speaker 1: years later, a lot of those folks have grown up,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and as we all adult, the Yanks are bringing us
- 13:35Speaker 1: joy as they adult. They are adults on that field.
- 13:40Speaker 1: There are grown men who get paid to play baseball,
- 13:46Speaker 1: and they too should be treated with that respect, both
- 13:57Speaker 1: at the stadium and on social media. And so think
- 14:07Speaker 1: about it that way. We are adults cheering on a
- 14:12Speaker 1: kid's game, But there are adults playing the kids game
- 14:16Speaker 1: to their fullest and hardest they can to bring us joy,
- 14:25Speaker 1: to win, to win for our city, to Rep. BX
- 14:29Speaker 1: and Rep NYC. That's all we can really ask them
- 14:35Speaker 1: to do as cyber winning a ring is to represent
- 14:38Speaker 1: us well and tough and gritty, because that is who
- 14:44Speaker 1: New Yorkers are, with the jersey on or with the
- 14:51Speaker 1: jersey off in regular street clothing.
- 14:56Speaker 2: I'm Alex Garrett.
- 14:57Speaker 1: That is my pregame show before Game five, a clinching
- 15:02Speaker 1: game for the Yankees, one game away from the World Series,
- 15:07Speaker 1: and fifteen years ago I had Queen's College as a platform.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Fifteen years later, this will be launched on Spotify.
- 15:17Speaker 1: iHeartRadio, Spreakers, my home, my flagship, and I've been on
- 15:24Speaker 1: the radio today as well on AM nine sending the answer.
- 15:26Speaker 1: So if there was ever an example of growth, it's
- 15:31Speaker 1: the little thing that was the Sports Hour that turned
- 15:33Speaker 1: to one leg up on Sports, one ligup on adaptability,
- 15:37Speaker 1: one look up on news, and just one leg up
- 15:39Speaker 1: the one leg Up Network.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I'm so glad you're listening. Enjoy Game five tonight.
- 15:49Speaker 1: As the Anks looked to close it out and head
- 15:52Speaker 1: to the Fall Classic for the first time since two
- 15:54Speaker 1: thousand and nine,
