In which a grievous breach of trust is sorrowfully disclosed and dealt with prudence, whilst the company of several gentlemen of questionable repute fills the household with loud, unfashionable merriment, much to the discomfort of the lady of the house. Through close observation and tender reflection, the narrator gauges the varying characters and temperaments present, musing on virtue and vice with a seriousness befitting the hour.
