- 0:01SPEAKER_04: Welcome to Everyone's a Critic.
- 0:03SPEAKER_04: A show where a guest picks a movie rated below 40% on Rotten Tomatoes and tells us why critics got it wrong.
- 0:09SPEAKER_04: I'm your host, Yanis Cove, a formerly pretentious film school student.
- 0:13SPEAKER_04: Ten years later sees the error of his ways.
- 0:16SPEAKER_04: My guests today are the girls with brown hair sketch comedy duo, Sam Reese and Becky Shikoyne.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Hello, thank you.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: We did it.
- 0:27SPEAKER_04: How are you both doing?
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, fine.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Amidst the traumas.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: Doing great because I watched a great movie.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's a good answer, actually.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: That's why.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: I take I take back my answer and I take sands.
- 0:43SPEAKER_04: Did you watch it together?
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: No, we watched it a few hours apart, but texted each other about the whole thing.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: I had seen it probably a few times over the past ten years.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: And I had actually never seen it, which is strange.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's strange for me be i I you don't know this, but you should.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: It was creepy.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: It was creepy.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: And finally, when I went back to college, or when I was in college, I went back home one day.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: My mom was like, you're taking it down, Becky.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: It's going down.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: It's too much Christina.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Too much Christina.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: We actually just jumped right in about Christina.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: No one even knows what we're talking about.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 1:33SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:33SPEAKER_04: Well, as they've seen the title, we know they know we're talking about burlesque, but yeah, we are talking about the movie Burlesque, which came out in 2010, I think.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: 2010, yes.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: It's 10 years old.
- 1:43SPEAKER_04: It's 10 years old, yeah.
- 1:44SPEAKER_04: I I remember it like it was like three years ago or something, though.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: I think that I view 2010 to 2013 as being last year.
- 1:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:56SPEAKER_04: I buy that.
- 1:57SPEAKER_04: It really feels like that.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Now, had you seen it before?
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: I had never seen it before.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: I'd seen like I'd heard the song, like the main song from it, the Burles song.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:07SPEAKER_04: Uh that's about it though.
- 2:09SPEAKER_04: So I had no knowledge of it other than that it had Golden Globe nominations.
- 2:14SPEAKER_04: Which people I didn't know.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: Which people criticized at the time.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: I remember that.
- 2:20SPEAKER_04: It was the same year that the tourist came out, I think, and those two were both up for like awards, and people were going, How did these both get awards?
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Well, I don't know what the tourist is, but it probably didn't deserve the awards as much as Carlesque did.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: I would agree.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: I don't know what the tourist is either.
- 2:37SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's a really bad Johnny Depp and Angelina Joni movie.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's right.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: I it sounded like a Johnny Depp movie.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen a Johnny Depp movie since Pirates.
- 2:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: Or Chacol.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Which um I will not be defending ever.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen that in a long time.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Actually, is he in that movie?
- 3:00unknown: Yeah.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he is.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Um, but I'm assuming the Golden Globe nominations for burlesque were best screenplay, best original music, best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress costumes, makeup, makeup.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Actually, I do the hair and makeup.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: It was a sweep, right?
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:20SPEAKER_04: So you you guessed all of the ones that it didn't get.
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: You missed out best uh best uh comedy slash musical.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Wow, it actually was up for best comedy slash musical.
- 3:32SPEAKER_02: Well, I feel like that always happens when there's a musical movie because there's only three options and then they all combined.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: Right, right, right, right.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: There's only like, yeah, it's either this or La La Land for the past 10 years.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: Every actually just keep going.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: Um and I I I think they do the same thing with Tony's where it's like best revival, but there's only three.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: So musical.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Guess what?
- 3:56SPEAKER_04: Incredible.
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: So you kind of you kind of touched on it, but what's your uh like history with the movie?
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: Uh I guess sad like Becky, you were saying like it's uh Well, yeah, I mean I've actually I've actually never seen it, so I have zero history.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: But I think I had a yearning in my heart to know that I needed it.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Did you know about it when it came out?
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: I think it just one of those got away from me.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: I 2010, we weren't in quarantine, so you know, you weren't watching a movie every two hours.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Where were you?
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: 2010, I was in Chicago doing musicals.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: So you'd think you'd think you could have been there at midnight the day it came out.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I was I might I think I was living with my roommate at the time Chris Pasternik, and he certainly saw it a million times.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: I don't know what I I really don't know what it was.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: Huh.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: I feel like it was short-lived in the theaters.
- 4:47SPEAKER_04: I could be that was yeah, definitely.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: Okay, interesting.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: Um, probably because it was too good though, right?
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: That's the thing.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: They were like, people actually need this on DVD right now.
- 4:57SPEAKER_02: Because probably with these strong, powerful female vocalists, they need to go to Blockbuster and buy it as part of their four for 25 DVD deal.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's a throwback now.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: But it was the case in 2010 because I was in college at that point.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Uh maybe a junior.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I had just graduated for sure.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Senior graduated.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I saw it in theaters, but I like to think I did.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Because I have definitely seen it a couple times.
- 5:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 5:31SPEAKER_04: Do you remember when you first saw it then?
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: Or like I guess you if you can't remember if you saw it in theaters, then I am assuming that a bunch of us because I went to musical theater college.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: So both of us are deeply entrenched in musical theater learning.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: This explains so much about your choice.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: And oh, this is I remember because Julianne Huff, who's in the movie, I went to high school with her.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: I forgot about that.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: It was like a big deal that she was in it.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: So we probably, a bunch of us over like Christmas break, probably went to see it together as like high school friends to be like, wow, Julianne Huff, one of the best dancers in the world, gets pregnant within the first 10 minutes of the movie and is not in a dance.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was surprised how little she was in it.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: The one number where she's an incredible dancer.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: And then the last number where she's an incredible dancer and nothing in between.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: And Kristen Bell ruins it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: It makes me wonder if Julianne Huff was supposed to be the Kristen Bell rule, and then Kristen Bell said, What if I did it?
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: What if I did it?
- 6:31unknown: Okay.
- 6:31SPEAKER_04: That could have happened.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I feel like it was a move on Kristen Bell to be like, I want to play an evil person.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Not the sweet, like, I'm pregnant and I'm gonna leave.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna lay.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: I do think giving Julian Huff a red wig um for the purposes of this podcast, I'll say it, was the best choice they could have made.
- 6:53unknown: Yeah.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: Nothing wrong with the movie.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: So, you know.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: What all of their wigs, though, I would say were good.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: They're all wearing wigs at every point.
- 7:03SPEAKER_04: Everyone is wearing a wig, yes.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Okay, so Reggie doesn't have a personal history with it, but she did research into how it came to be.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Well, now that's because my boyfriend was watching it with me, you know, when I watched it two nights ago, and he was like, What is happening?
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: Um, so what was the climate when this was made?
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Why I don't know if you guys know this, and maybe I'm probably gonna get it wrong, so maybe do your own research, but that's how you should be doing your thinking these days.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Um, but the guy who wrote it and directed it, same guy, is a gay white guy who was a producer on that pussycat dolls reality competition show.
- 7:41SPEAKER_04: Like, I read the same thing.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, yeah, the search for the next pussycat doll.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: And I think he saw Christina Galera perform, and that's why he wrote it for Christina.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: Okay, and when you say that, I'm confused because he just randomly see her perform in 2008.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: I think she might have been on the TV show.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: I think she was like a guest judge, maybe at some point.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm actually guessing.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Do you know?
- 8:03SPEAKER_04: I don't know that.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: Sure, I'm gonna go with that.
- 8:06SPEAKER_04: I reckon we probably read the same thing.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Imagine just like a white gay man seeing Christina Aguilar perform in 2007, 2008, and being like, You have talent.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: Where do you have talent?
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Where have you been, Christina?
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: I in my head they met at like a swanky party one night.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: Hit it off.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: Hit it off and let's work together.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: At all costs.
- 8:25SPEAKER_02: At all costs.
- 8:26SPEAKER_04: They met at one of Marcus's parties.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yes, and Eric Dane's parties.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: And listen, I don't falter for it.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: Because were this to have been cast now, although I guess they have hustlers, but they don't sing in hustlers.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: This would be I think they should remake burlesque every 40 years like they do a star is born.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, yes.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: And now it should be I guess if now it would be Lady Gaga.
- 8:53SPEAKER_02: It would be Lady Gaga.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: It would be Lady Gaga.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: Maybe like Kesha.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: I I yeah.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: No, let's be honest, it would be Ariana Grande.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: And then Jennifer Lopez would uh own the club, would be Cher.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: Jennifer Lopez would be Cher.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:10SPEAKER_04: Um here's something here's something that I I noticed though.
- 9:13SPEAKER_04: Like I don't know if you've seen it, but it's very similar to Showgirls, but like a PG version.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Um okay, so Showgirls, one of my favorite things about Showgirls, which I watched a lot in college, is that if you find like a made like the TV version, they paint little bikinis over their boobs.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: And like but like Microsoft paint style, like Oh, I need to watch that.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: It's so funny.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: How do we find that?
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: I think if you you could probably find screenshots of it on Google, but it's like so funny to see them trying to like pin it so it's like flipping around.
- 9:48SPEAKER_04: How do you make that movie PG?
- 9:50SPEAKER_04: Even outside of just like even just painting that, it must be like three minutes long.
- 9:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's impossible.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: You gotta see it.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: I can't see the I don't know why.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Maybe it's because I was raised Catholic.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: Showgirls walk so burlesque could dance, jog Hustler so burst could run.
- 10:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: And then also what about Mulan Rouge in Chicago?
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: I've obviously seen those.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 10:12SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Those are the movies.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: My first thought was like, did they make burlesque after Chicago came out?
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: Because that was a big hit.
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: And they're eight years apart.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so no.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: Um wow.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's so many.
- 10:27SPEAKER_04: It took him eight years to write it.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: And we are defending it.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: That that's what I'm saying.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: We're not putting it down right now.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: We are in its favor for sure.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: We're trying to figure out like where the genius came from, you know.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: Well, listen, I will never put Christina Aguilera down.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: Okay?
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: No.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: She's a fighter.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: We were talking about how Christina, um, her speaking voice does not match her singing voice at all.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: It doesn't at all.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: She's really light here.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: And then it's like a good impression.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: You know, I will say this, switching topics a little bit, I got uh Sam, the Christina Aguilera masterclass for her birthday once.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: And she has a master class.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, to teach you how to sing.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: Um, and it's pretty the trailer's pretty funny because she just like wears a fedora and then she's like, okay, so when I sing, I hold the microphone here, and then I turn my head, and then I go, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: It's like, okay, yeah, that's how you sing.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: So what they should have said is like teach you how to look like Christina Guilherme when you sing, not singular.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: But they when she sings within the first two minutes of the movie, you get the signature Christina Riff, right?
- 11:45SPEAKER_04: But here's the other thing about it, like like what you're saying there is just like all she all she does is like just like learn how to look like you're singing like her.
- 11:54SPEAKER_04: She when they in the movie they never explain how she can sing like that.
- 11:59SPEAKER_04: She's just like, oh, it just comes out that way.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no years of training.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do love that she they don't want to, they don't want to they don't want to waste time on that because it's about they just they just they don't care about her family.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: There's one line of her in the beginning, like I gotta get out of this town.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: That's the first line I feel like.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: I gotta get out.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: And then she does.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: She sings a song and then she goes.
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: So maybe at its core, the movie is really about what do you think?
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: Just like going for your dreams, just just doing it.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Just do the dreams, go for the dreams.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: If you're hot and sexy and thin, go for your dreams.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, there it is.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: If you're hot sexy and thin, go for your dreams.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: I feel like I read something else where it was either Cher or Christina who was like, it went through so many rewrites, and at one point they were like, I don't care what we say, just as long as we can sing and dance.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: I don't care.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: Which makes sense, yeah.
- 12:54SPEAKER_04: That makes a lot of sense.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe this really although I feel like Cher's been in a lot of movie musicals before this.
- 13:02SPEAKER_04: Um, but really No, she hasn't.
- 13:04SPEAKER_04: This was her first musical.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: Well, you're forgetting that she did a one-person version of West Side's story, but other than that, um then Mamma Mia was that's what I'm saying.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this this let her do Mamma Mia.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: And another ten years, another ten years later.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: What you want from Cher is what you get, no subtleties.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: But I you know she looks beautiful.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Looks beautiful.
- 13:28SPEAKER_04: Cher is great in this.
- 13:29SPEAKER_04: Yes, so fun like so fun.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: I I do think we need to touch on Stanley Tucci.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: We do need to touch on Stanley Tucci.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: And this was an at the Stanley Tucci era, I feel, where he there was he played a bunch of this character in the Earth Prada, this one.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: I'm sure there's more.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: He's played like the gay sidekick.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: What's that?
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: It was is he in sideways, or I'm thinking of somebody else.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: No.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: That's Paul Giamatti.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Sideways.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: The only reason I remember sideways is my parents rented it, and I remember being like, I don't want to watch this.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, I watched it.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: It's about wine.
- 14:08unknown: That's why I did it.
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: It's about wine, and that's a that's it.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: So it's problematic that I've seen sideways, but not burlesque.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: And I am I am owning that.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: Okay, what about burlesque as a live show, like live Broadway show?
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Would it work?
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: I think that they would need to maybe put some more obstacles in Christina's way.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: Um, because there weren't any, I would say.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Uh I mean there were, but she overcame them within the next scene.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, but uh overall, let's talk about the star-setted cast, right?
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: You can't, every single person is a star.
- 14:48SPEAKER_02: The cast is insane.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Except for this the straight bartender.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: That's one of my favorite parts of the movie, and I would argue maybe the best parts is the straight male bartenders who wear little vests and hats.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: But even the straight male bartender's fiance, Diana Agron.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: That's right, from Glee.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: She's one scene.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: She's probably a big break.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and also I love that she doesn't sing or dance in it, but she's a singer and a dancer.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: Do you think there's a cut scene where she sings to him?
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: No, that's do you think there's a version of this movie where it's not just performing at the burlesque club where like they sing like it's a real musical?
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, I see what you're saying.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what it would have been.
- 15:33SPEAKER_04: There must be.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: That maybe is why it kept getting rewritten.
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: And they were like, too much singing, but only singing.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: Does that make sense?
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, only one singing, but less lines but more lines?
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Does that make sense?
- 15:46SPEAKER_04: Um can you make the lines worse?
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: Do you have the budget pulled up for this movie?
- 15:52SPEAKER_04: Oh, uh it is.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Uh-oh, he does.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:57SPEAKER_04: Oh no, I have the box office for it.
- 15:59SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, what if box office?
- 16:01SPEAKER_04: 39 million.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: It's pretty bad.
- 16:03SPEAKER_04: It's not great.
- 16:05SPEAKER_04: This has to have cost more than that.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Based on the cast, I would assume they each wanted at least a million dollars.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: And so it probably was a billion dollars.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: And I'm telling you the hair makeup and costumes alone.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: One to two million.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: One to two million.
- 16:21SPEAKER_04: Oh, this is interesting.
- 16:22SPEAKER_04: So I've got a different figure here now.
- 16:24SPEAKER_04: Uh-oh.
- 16:24SPEAKER_04: And I went to search up the budget.
- 16:26SPEAKER_04: So the budget is saying it's 35, and now it's saying the box office was 90.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: 90 million.
- 16:32SPEAKER_04: Huh.
- 16:33SPEAKER_04: So maybe the box office worldwide is 90 million.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: So what you're saying is that the movie rumor, the rumor is it made a profit.
- 16:43SPEAKER_04: The rumor is.
- 16:45SPEAKER_04: The rumor is, but of course no movie ever makes a profit.
- 16:47SPEAKER_04: True.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: So I'll watch.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: It is a movie I would put on at a party just to have in the background.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: In fact, I was uh I did an Instagram story yesterday with my dog sleeping, and I put the music, get it up, get it up, let's see you burlesque, get em up, beat 'em up.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: It's an iconic song.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: That's the one I knew.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: I don't think I knew that song even.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: What was it?
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: I was in musicals.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Somebody explained it to me.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: I blacked out.
- 17:19SPEAKER_04: It's too much joy.
- 17:20SPEAKER_04: I can't take it.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: You need to go back to your Facebook and look up your posts from 2010 and see what you're doing.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: It's probably gonna be like, I can't go to the movies, I'm in rehearsal.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: I can't.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm in rehearsal for Into the Woods the second time.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: The lost years.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: The lost years.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: What a blessing.
- 17:44SPEAKER_04: So let's let's I'm gonna I'm just gonna describe the plot because I realize we haven't even done that yet.
- 17:49SPEAKER_04: Like it's uh one off.
- 17:51SPEAKER_04: It's it's just a small town girl moves to moves to uh LA, wanders into a burlesque club, gets enamored by it, and decides that like she wants to become a part of it.
- 18:05SPEAKER_04: That's essentially the point.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: And in a way, this is all of our stories with UCB, right?
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: That is what it correct.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: We get it, we wander into UCB because we're like, I guess we want to be on SNL, and then we and then we stay in the basement, get enamored for 10 years.
- 18:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: But what if we stayed?
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: And then it burned to the ground, much like burlesque did.
- 18:36SPEAKER_02: No, it didn't actually should have bought air rights.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: You see me should have bought we forgot that that is actually a big part of the plot.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: It happens twice, yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_04: I didn't know that was even a thing.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: I don't think it is.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: You can't buy air.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: No, you certainly can't buy air.
- 18:56SPEAKER_04: Okay, now I feel even dumber for believing it.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go fly believing and be like the shit about air rights.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: Oh man, I think we only think what about air rights.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Um, I feel like that's just like a government restriction.
- 19:08SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 19:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it must be.
- 19:11SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Uh probably similar to Williamsburg, how they they built this huge condo building that is like 70 floors tall, but because people complained about losing the view, they put a hole in the middle of the building.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: So now it looks like a big pair of pants.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: It's called the Donut Building, but so you can see through it, it's so it's so strange because everything is low and then there's this one gigantic, hideous building.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: Um which Eric Dane wanted to build.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Eric Dane wanted to build it because he wanted to live in that building.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: Okay, cover the water.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about that conflict with Eric Dane, where he loved the burlesque club.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: He went every single night.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: He was to help Christina transfer.
- 19:53SPEAKER_04: He went since 1991, he says.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he called himself a member, a member of what?
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: Burlesque Club.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: And then his plan was to knock it down.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: And I want to know.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: I got a lot of questions actually, because you know what?
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: This is a it's a brilliant idea.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: It's a brilliant idea.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: So smart.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: He did like what happened to Nikki?
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: I guess they broke up.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: They and I I think that was a choice for them to just abandon that all that we gotta get rid of her somehow.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: Gotta get rid.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: We'll call her a slut a bunch of times, and then she'll sort of disappear because she's an alcoholic, which again is a good idea.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: Such a good idea.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: Great movie.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: And then she barely seems like an alcoholic as well.
- 20:39SPEAKER_04: She has like one drink and that's it.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: And yeah, and then she comes back the next day and it's like, I'm fine.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: And it's like, maybe you're not fine at this club.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: It seems like you don't want to be here.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: It seems like you're very unhappy.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: And then Cher smashes her window with a golf club?
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: A golf club or something.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: Was it?
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I forgot that she smashed her window.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: And in my moment for me, I was like, I know what's gonna happen in this movie.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: She's gonna get in a car accident.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: That's what I thought too.
- 21:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I thought that as well.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: Because she's like, don't drive! That's what Cher says.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: But you know what?
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: The movie?
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: Not about Kristen Bell.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: It's not about Kristen Bells.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: No.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: She's supposed to be um a villain, but she's not.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: She's only the villain to herself.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: That's a great point.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: And is that true of everyone in that movie?
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: You're just developed yourself.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: Develop yourself.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Um, who is the who's Cher's ex-husband?
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: Again, what's that?
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: Peter Gallagher.
- 21:30SPEAKER_04: Peter Gallagher, yeah.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: Peter Gallagher.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: Where the else is he from?
- 21:33SPEAKER_02: What is this?
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: Oh the OC.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: OC, yes.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: Dad, right?
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: In a lot of stuff.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: The dad and what else?
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: It's something recently too.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: He's an adult, he's been working for a long time.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: He's a classic working actor.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: Another great part of this movie.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: It just employs so many actors.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: So many actors.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately, haven't seen the bartender again.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: He was in I heard he was in the OC.
- 21:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, was he?
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: I think that's his clanto name for.
- 22:01SPEAKER_04: Everyone's in the OC.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: Or he was in one of those types of things.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: Got it, got it, got it, got it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: But he was since then, I don't know.
- 22:06unknown: Yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: He's probably making money off of that.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Modeling.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: Yes, modeling.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, the plot I would say is not really, it's just kind of like, let's just see, she's just gonna go.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: Christina's just gonna do her thing.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Um, and then let's talk about the fact that when she first gets to the club, Cher is singing, right?
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: So it's not a classic burlesque club.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: It's like Cher is not at all.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: And that's a great point.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Cher never sings again, and for some reason is so against hearing Christina sing.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: Like, what for what?
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: It's interesting that you say this because it sounds like you're criticizing the.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm sorry, I mentioned that because I'm saying that it's like that's great, because then when she finally does sing, it's it's good.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: It's good, yeah.
- 22:50SPEAKER_04: It's great.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: So that's what I'm saying, Sam.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: What were you saying?
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Um I I just think it's a it's an interesting plot point that they saying it's not about they're not here to watch us sing, they're not here to watch her watch us dance, and you're right.
- 23:06SPEAKER_04: But also Kristen Bell sings, supposedly.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: In real life.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: In real life.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: No, in the in this.
- 23:12SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: She's the only one that's allowed to sing or something like that, they say.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, I missed that.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: I uh yeah, I missed that.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: Here we go.
- 23:22SPEAKER_04: But that's the thing, she's clearly not singing, but they say that she's the only one allowed to sing.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: So here's what I'm I'll say, because we feel like the plot is thinned, but I like that because again, we're not here for the plot.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: No, I like it.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: No, you're not, it's not a plot-driven movie.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: I want to see Christina in several wigs.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: It's a great movie for representation for people of bangs.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: And I would say, um, and Christina, a way better dancer than I thought.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, but I knew she was really good.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: Well, but I will say that most of the dance moves are her like popping her hip and doing something like with her arm.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it works.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: But it works.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Um, and also a great movie for lace bodysuits and corsets.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, the costumes I do think are good.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'll say that.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: I think they're very good.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: And I guess Stanley Tucci made them all, you know.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: That's what they say.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: Um the performances, I'll say, I think across the board, good.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: Solid, solid, good.
- 24:26SPEAKER_04: I was never saying solid performances?
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: I would never say anyone was a bad actor.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: I'll say it.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: I think solid performances across across the board.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: Why are you laughing?
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: Why are both of you laughing?
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, I agree.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so uh solid performances.
- 24:43SPEAKER_04: I'll say share, solid performance.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:47SPEAKER_04: And that might be it.
- 24:50SPEAKER_02: Okay, I feel like stiffer.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: Not even Stanley Tucci?
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: I don't even know if you can call it.
- 24:56SPEAKER_04: It's the Stanley Tucci role.
- 24:58SPEAKER_04: He doesn't do anything new.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: Well, that means it's good.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: We like it.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: It's being himself.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: And just a second part, have we all seen the video of him from recently making a cocktail?
- 25:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Actually, no.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: You should watch it.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: His arms are.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: It was like turned into a meme pretty quickly.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: Why is it like the when the rock makes a cocktail?
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: It no.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: Because I like that.
- 25:20SPEAKER_04: That's nothing that that interesting about it.
- 25:22SPEAKER_04: It's just him making a cocktail, I feel like.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: It's him making a cocktail, but he's like very flirty in it.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: And his arms look really good.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: I think he's just gonna pick it up.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: I was surprised by the arms.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: I will say, currently, right now, there are a lot of um celebrities making cocktails on the internet.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: They're like, did you know you could do this at home?
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Unfortunate.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's unfortunate.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: And it's like, oh no, without everything else, you're just a person and I don't care.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, you're not special, but I am.
- 25:55SPEAKER_04: Uh we're I'm making unique content.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: Like this.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: Like this, thank you.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: Um, we are forgetting to talk about how Christina goes to the club and just starts picking up plates like she's a waitress.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Picking up plates, but you really no, no, no, that was good.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: I was saying that's actually good because we know that she's good at that because that's where she came from.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: Remember, she came from a diner?
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: You're making a great point.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: So I did forget that.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: Because I will say she started doing that, and I was like, oh, and she's just good at being a waitress.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: And I was like, wait a minute.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: I remember from the beginning that that's what she was.
- 26:32SPEAKER_04: Um they established that early on.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: We should know that.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: Which it is a quality screen writing 101.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a quality of a good movie.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: So I will say I never wanted to turn it off.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: And I can't say that for every Judd Apatel movie.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: So think about that.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: So think about that.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: What if we found out that Judd Apatel was like a ghostwriter on this one?
- 26:54SPEAKER_04: Do you know who was a ghostwriter on this?
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: Tell me.
- 26:57SPEAKER_04: Diablo Cody.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 27:00SPEAKER_04: The Juno writer.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, wow.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Is that real?
- 27:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: Wow, that checks out.
- 27:07SPEAKER_04: She did rewrites on it.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: Right, because a white gay man wrote it and then they were like, let's add another layer.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: Let's see what else we can do.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: Um, that's crazy.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: Hey, remember The Wedding?
- 27:22unknown: No.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: Was there a wedding?
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: They were shooting dress.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: Julianne Huff's Wedding.
- 27:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:27SPEAKER_04: I thought you were talking about a wedding, like a movie called The Wedding.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: The Wedding?
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: Um, I see outlook about the episode.
- 27:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Did something happen at Julianne Huff's wedding?
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: No, I can't remember.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Um the I Jack, is that his name?
- 27:42SPEAKER_04: Uh the bartender, yeah.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he breaks up with his girlfriend, his fiance, and then they That's also never clarified what exactly happened there.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: Certainly it's not.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: Seems like they were on the outs.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: They were on the outs.
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: He made a fake comment to her that was like, I guess we should look at uh what our future is, and he took that as I broke up with you.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: It's confusing because his fiance was on Broadway, and it seems like he was mad about that.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: He was and he was a bartender, so I don't know.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: I feel like you could not be writing songs also in New York, you know, when you think about it.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: Because he was well, I guess he was writing songs.
- 28:25SPEAKER_04: But songs that bad could be written in New York would be fine.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: I loved the background on that.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: He was like, I won a songwriting competition, and I guess I thought that would be enough.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: I don't know if his character was better than Eric Dane's character for me personally.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: No.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: I think she should have walked away from it.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: I think she just stayed with Eric Dane.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: I think she could have convinced him to not build the card.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Well, I think so.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: I think she should have gotten a record deal first and then last.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: That's what's crazy about this.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: Seems like she could have gotten the record deal pretty easily.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Pretty easily.
- 29:05SPEAKER_04: Very easily, yeah.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: I just want to dance at this burlesque club.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: She's like, fine fun, but like that's all you want to do?
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: There right.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: There was part of me that was like, okay, so this happens for two years.
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: She's she's at this burlesque club for two years, and then obviously her career grows.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: So, but maybe not forever.
- 29:24SPEAKER_04: Oh, I thought I thought you I thought they actually brought up something about two years, and I I thought I missed something.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: In my head, I'm going to be one.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: So that's why this movie is so good that it makes me think of what happens next.
- 29:35SPEAKER_04: Are you gonna write the sequel?
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, actually.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: Actually?
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: I think we are.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: We're gonna get in touch with our people.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: Christina owns the club this time.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: Christina owns the club.
- 29:44SPEAKER_04: Of course she owns the club.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Um she sings, it's gonna be the exact same movie.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: Julianne Huff is the head bartender.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: And her child.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Her child.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: It's about Julianne Huff's child wanting to perform.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: The child is 10, so they're like, no, it's not appropriate.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: But then it's like, well, culture.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: We start a burlesque junior club.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: Junior.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: And that's what will be in high school.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: And that's dance.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: Dance class.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: That's what that is.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: Burlesque junior.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: I just never knew.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: I think that all the budget went to those big burlesque letters.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: That's what I was saying.
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: You know, they it like every time it comes up, I'm like, those lit those letters are really big.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: They're really big.
- 30:28SPEAKER_04: They are.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: They're really big.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: And that also, I think, is a callback to Chicago.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Chicago.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: It has to say exact thing.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:40SPEAKER_04: It also explains why like she why the club is losing so much money.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: Packed every single night.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Sold out.
- 30:49SPEAKER_02: Seems like they're very busy.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Also, in the very beginning, the cover is$20, which is a lot.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: A lot of money.
- 30:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's not cheap.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: No.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Not to mention if it's you're probably going to$12 cocktail on top of the Have Way 2 drink, but you're not going there to have water, no.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: So I did send Becky a clip of this moment that Alan Cumming, who's in the movie as well, but he's perfectly.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we haven't even done Alan Cummings.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: Star of the Good Wife, which was happening at this point in time.
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, was it?
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: I think.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't know.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: He was on for a long time.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: I think it started around then.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: And um he's a he's like a lawyer in that show.
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: And he he's like doing his little clown dance, and he puts his face in a dancer's vagina and then goes, hello, and then the guy in the audience spits his drink out because he thinks it's so funny.
- 31:41unknown: Yeah.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: It's a spit take.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: And I can only imagine uh being that person and how many times they just didn't spit take.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: Until they really couldn't get it, so they just used one that was over dramatic.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: They really couldn't get it at the subtlety of the spit take.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: The subtlety of the spit take.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: Subtle spit takes.
- 32:02SPEAKER_04: Can you imagine having to audition for it and like being like, oh, I got this role, and I'm gonna be in a in a Christina Aguilera and share film?
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: That's your part.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: There was another part when Kristen Bell comes back after her, you know, sulky moment away.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: She comes back, she's sitting on her vanity, and her and Christina share a look in the mirror, and it's like, oh, maybe she's changed.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: And then there's a girl that comes over and grabs something off the vanity and goes, she goes, Can I have this?
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: And then Kristen Bell like slaps her hand is like, Don't touch my stuff.
- 32:31SPEAKER_02: But that girl who comes in and is like, Can I have this?
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I rewound and watched that part a few times because the way she says it and then leaves is so funny to me.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: It did feel like it was meant to purposely be like a sketch comedy moment because it did sound so funny, but it also reminded me of that viral video, can I pet that dog?
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: Can I pet that dog?
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: That little girl.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: Can I have this?
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: Can I have this?
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: Don't touch my dog! Yeah, yeah, like a teen.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: What's the one more room?
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: And pretend yeah, pretend that she's your mom.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, actually, we could just get someone from the crew to like run in and say this.
- 33:09SPEAKER_02: Um we're not gonna see you, we're just gonna kinda.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it probably is like a a uh PA.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: Listen.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, I wonder if there was an international box office with this.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: Were there other countries this did well in?
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: That's what I want to know.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: And I don't know why, but maybe that's why that could explain the$90 million box office.
- 33:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, let me check IMDB.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: And you know, again, loved it.
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: I can't recall a single song.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: No, except for Limited, which is a very just like a take on a bunch of Christina Galera songs.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:54SPEAKER_04: 100%.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: Just a take.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: Um every song had that.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: Every single one.
- 34:03SPEAKER_04: Do y'all play?
- 34:05SPEAKER_04: Worldwide growth is 89 million.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: Um worldwide, how?
- 34:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 34:11SPEAKER_04: And it grows 39 in the US.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: So that's what I'm saying.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: So that's what I'm saying.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: International.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: I felt it.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: I had a feeling.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: Um that people need share everywhere.
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's definitely not UK numbers because I don't remember it being big here.
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Um, my only thing I thought, wow, what if Celine Dion played Cher?
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: It would be a different movie.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: It would be.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: I guess Celine Dionne isn't known for dancing, though, nor is Cher, so and Cher also doesn't really dance in this.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: No, she I would actually argue that Celine is known for her own kind of dancing.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: She probably believes herself to be a dancer in a way.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: And that's just something I was thinking about.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: But I do think right that J Lo would play that role.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: J-Lo would play that role now.
- 35:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: And that is something that I would want to see.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: I absolutely would see that.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: I did not see Hustlers.
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: Loved Hustlers.
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: I got on Hustle.
- 35:13SPEAKER_04: Hustlers is great.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: Loved it.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Loved it.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: This is, you know, in 10 years when we do an episode of this podcast on hustlers, I'll think back and be like, in 2020, why did or 2019, why didn't I see it?
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: Where was I?
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: No, you're gonna watch it this weekend.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: I think it's on Amazon Prime.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: But the dancing, what they do, what the ladies do?
- 35:34SPEAKER_04: Especially J-Lo in it.
- 35:36SPEAKER_04: J-Lo is she's so good in it.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: So good.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: It's a good it's a fun one.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Alright?
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 35:42SPEAKER_02: I will rent it on Amazon for$2.99.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: Now, if only they sang at the strip club, then 100% are rotten tomatoes.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: This is a separate thought, but I would love an Oceans 8 the musical.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: Oh, I actually do love that.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: The one with all the women in it.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: With Thrianna and the other one.
- 36:03SPEAKER_04: The other ones.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: I I think that would be actually really good.
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: Think about it.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: Think about the number when they're really doing the plan.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: You know, that would be a fun number.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: And the costumes in that would be similar to burlesque.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: Just like glitzy.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: Maybe David Yazbek could write it.
- 36:19unknown: Okay.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: So dirty rotten scoundrels-esque, you know?
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: Really getting into the nitty-gritty details.
- 36:28SPEAKER_02: A combination of David Yazbek and Steven Sondheim.
- 36:31SPEAKER_02: Steven Sonheim, no way.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Just think about it.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: The two of them together?
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: We don't know.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: Either Koreana should write them.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's true.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: And Cerebrellas.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Mixing two and he's chugged notes.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying I want a Patter song from Ocean's 8.
- 36:47SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: Alright, Angela Weber's gonna write it.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: Did you see cats?
- 36:53SPEAKER_04: Did I see cats?
- 36:54SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: I'm so sorry.
- 36:56SPEAKER_04: Have you seen it?
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I saw that before I saw burlesque.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: What a world.
- 37:02SPEAKER_04: I saw it opening weekend.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: I think I did too.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:05SPEAKER_04: Opening, probably closing weekend.
- 37:07SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 37:07SPEAKER_04: I don't think it was out long.
- 37:10SPEAKER_04: There were three of us, three of us watching it in the in the screen.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: Three.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 37:14SPEAKER_04: Three people.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: I saw it with a big group of people, and everyone in the theater was laughing, and at one point somebody said, All of you suck, and then someone else said, Stop.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: You're watching cats.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: This is everybody else was high except for that one person.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: Pretty much.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: And everyone was wearing cat ears in my group.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: It was with Mark.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:36SPEAKER_04: Oh no, I do remember there was a father and son actually in the right in the front row for some reason, and they left halfway through.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Wow, yeah.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: It's a very long movie.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: I will say burlesque, longer than I thought it would be.
- 37:48SPEAKER_04: That is true.
- 37:49SPEAKER_04: It doesn't drag though.
- 37:50SPEAKER_04: But that's the thing, it doesn't drag.
- 37:51SPEAKER_02: It doesn't drag.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: Didn't want to turn it off.
- 37:53SPEAKER_02: Didn't want to turn it off.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: I did skip through some musical numbers only because I started watching it at like 10 o'clock.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 38:01SPEAKER_04: Already past your bedtime.
- 38:03SPEAKER_02: Yes, and I had 20% left on my laptop, and I said, I have 30 minutes left of this movie.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: Can I make it?
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: Can I make it?
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: I just sort of skipping.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: So you skipped the last share number.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:14SPEAKER_04: Which is the best song in the movie.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 38:16SPEAKER_04: That's the best performance.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: I would argue with that, but um I'm a Christina loyalist.
- 38:23SPEAKER_02: Um, oh.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: Can't even pick.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: What's the one with the Christina has the feathers?
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: Uh or what about I'm a good girl?
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Remember that one?
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: I vaguely I skipped the one in the I don't remember any of the songs.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: No, that one where she's like, I'm a good girl, but all I can think of is a Billy Addish song now.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: And that's Oh, the one where she they pop up behind the bar and they're like going in to get the bar.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: I felt like that song was like a sort of closer to a true burlesque number where she was like goofy with the feathers and like naked.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: And I was like, oh, because that's if you look up Merriam Webster's definition of burlesque, it's goofy and feathers.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: Goofy and feathers.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: It's funny, sexy stripping, right?
- 39:07SPEAKER_02: Funny, sexy stripping, goofy and fepping.
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: Funny sexy stripping.
- 39:10unknown: Yeah.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: Oh boy, I'm gonna get some.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be bad for me on the internet.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: One of my best friends from high school was burlesque in Vegas.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: And it's funny.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: It's funny.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she does like comedy for burlesque.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: And here's the thing.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: And they have Most of the movie is not that.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: No, it is just a day, like a dance.
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: It's like a just a straight up like musical.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: I wonder what the burlesque community thinks about this.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: We should go to the forums.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: Burlesque community thinks.
- 39:40SPEAKER_04: The burlesque forums.
- 39:41SPEAKER_04: If you want to Google that, go ahead.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: IAMDB Burlesque Forum.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: I just my only critique.
- 39:48SPEAKER_04: That doesn't exist anymore.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Oh it used to be a thing though, right?
- 39:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: I an IBDB for burlesque.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: No, just on IMDb, there used to be forums where you could talk about it.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, right, alright.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: So my only critique, I have no others.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I just feel like the club was too big and beautiful.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: Like, it shouldn't have been a little bit more underground, a little shittier.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: A little shittier.
- 40:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 40:13SPEAKER_04: And also Also, there should not have been as many people watching.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: So people again, packed every single night.
- 40:21SPEAKER_04: That's like a it's like a thousand people watching every night.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: One a thousand people, and Brett should have been struggling.
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: It should have been because that's why I think I felt like what's there's no plot.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: There's no problems.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: They focused uh maybe a a little bit, not that this is a criticism.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: Not a criticism.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: It's just like a what if what if they didn't focus on Christina as much?
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: It was just like that at first.
- 40:45unknown: Alright.
- 40:45SPEAKER_02: It's like the club is struggling, and then she appears and is like their savior.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: But then we wouldn't know she was a waitress.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: And we do need to know that to know that she's good at waitressing, and there's no way to show that.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: There's no way, there's no way to show that.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: Um, I think it's pretty impressive that she learned all of the dances.
- 41:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but she learned it while waitressing.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: And I've known I loved that montage.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: She was serving and then she would dance, and people would be like, and she'd flick her wrist.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was all flicking the wrist.
- 41:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 41:15SPEAKER_02: But she learned.
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: So and that's how you have to do it.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: That is what the true lesson is.
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: If you want to make it in Hollywood, learn the dances while you're bartending.
- 41:24SPEAKER_04: In about two weeks.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, two weeks.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: All of them.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: Two weeks.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: What was the number that she had to audition to?
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: It was like a cowboy number.
- 41:33SPEAKER_03: I don't remember.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Like a wahoo-wahoozy, wahoozy walk.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: Can you do that?
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: When because when she was auditioning, first of all, it's a little insane that she didn't know about the audition.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: Um, not a criticism, just a thought.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: Uh then where was it posted?
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Watoozy Walk.
- 41:52SPEAKER_04: I can't remember what the name of the dance is, but I just thought something it's something ridiculous that she has a dance to.
- 41:59SPEAKER_04: And then she's just like she knows it, obviously.
- 42:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I see.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 42:04SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, I don't know.
- 42:06SPEAKER_04: She's just not she I They don't give her enough history and a backstory, and they don't explain anything about her, and it I think it really affects the story.
- 42:17SPEAKER_02: Well, then she doesn't have one.
- 42:19SPEAKER_02: And she said it herself, no family, no friends.
- 42:21SPEAKER_02: The woman that the writer did not think of me actually prior to my arrival in LA that much, so I can't answer your question.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: I'm doing I'm doing this all for myself.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: All for myself.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: And the only really, you know, time she lets her guard down to share her life with Jack or Jake or whatever, um, she asks about him, and he doesn't ask about her.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: Her.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we knew a lot more about the bartender's life than we knew a lot about him, yeah.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately.
- 42:53SPEAKER_04: Here's another thing about it.
- 42:54SPEAKER_04: Like, she calls, like, his name is Jack.
- 42:56SPEAKER_04: She calls him Jeff the entire time.
- 42:59SPEAKER_04: If you go back and listen, it sounds like she's saying Jeff the entire time.
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: Christina's so funny.
- 43:06SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 43:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, what a flirt.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: What a flirt.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: What?
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: Wow, what a flirt.
- 43:12SPEAKER_02: Christina.
- 43:13SPEAKER_02: Remember.
- 43:14SPEAKER_04: Speaking of flirt, Stanley Tucci.
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: Stanley Tucci, again.
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: Flirting.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: The moment with the costume rack where he puts his legs around Cher.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 43:23SPEAKER_01: Loved it.
- 43:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: But organic, I'd say.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: I am so curious.
- 43:28SPEAKER_02: Do you think that they're friends now?
- 43:30SPEAKER_04: Google.
- 43:31SPEAKER_02: Cher and Stanley.
- 43:32SPEAKER_04: I think they are.
- 43:34SPEAKER_04: I think they are.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: I think they have to be.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: Who in this movie still keeps in touch?
- 43:40SPEAKER_02: Cher and Christina.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: Um.
- 43:44SPEAKER_02: Stanley and Cher.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: Kristen Bell and probably everybody.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: I feel like that's her character.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: She she keeps in touch with everybody, but nobody texts her back, maybe.
- 43:56SPEAKER_02: Anyone who has kids, Kristen Bell, has had a playdate with.
- 43:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: Do you think that the writer and Christina Galera are friends?
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: No.
- 44:09SPEAKER_04: Not after seeing it.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, huh.
- 44:11SPEAKER_02: That that's what's interesting.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: I asked Becky after she did her research.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: Um, aka Google, a Google, a Google, if the writer did anything else after this.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: No.
- 44:22SPEAKER_04: No.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: No, did not.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: Only one.
- 44:25SPEAKER_02: So traumatized from this experience.
- 44:27SPEAKER_04: Wait.
- 44:28SPEAKER_04: They did nothing before this and nothing after this.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: Nope.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: It's correct.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: That's correct.
- 44:32SPEAKER_04: Oh, so this is a this is just the story they had to tell.
- 44:35SPEAKER_04: They had to.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: I think they were in.
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: They were in he was involved in the industry, you know.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: I assume what happened.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: I should Google the guy is this guy created the story, the idea sold the idea, and then maybe Diablo Cody was the one that basically did most of the writing.
- 44:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:53SPEAKER_04: It's like that.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:57SPEAKER_04: But then who wrote the I don't know.
- 45:00SPEAKER_04: I feel like Diablo Cody might have just I can't.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: So see, I can't see her doing the dialogue.
- 45:06SPEAKER_04: I can't see her doing the plot.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:08SPEAKER_04: And I can't see her doing the music.
- 45:09SPEAKER_04: So what did she do?
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Do you think we gotta conference her in?
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: We gotta conference.
- 45:15SPEAKER_02: Um oh, he made his oh, he used to be an actor.
- 45:20SPEAKER_02: Who wasn't?
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: He was an actor.
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: Um dabbled in writing.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: Dabbled in writing.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: Um, it doesn't even mention that's where it stops.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: Uh that's Steve has dabbled in writing.
- 45:36SPEAKER_02: That's the end of his bio.
- 45:38SPEAKER_04: That that sounds right.
- 45:40SPEAKER_02: Orna.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: What a crazy thing to be like.
- 45:43SPEAKER_02: I'm in the industry.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: Just imagine that you have an idea, you hit it off with Christina Aguilera at some fucking Eric Dane party, and then you're like, let's work on something, and then some studio is like, okay, and then they cast all of these people in it.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna say this actually.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: So he wrote Burlesque 2010, and I guess wrote a screenplay in 2018 called Proud Mary.
- 46:06SPEAKER_04: So Proud Mary.
- 46:09SPEAKER_04: What is that?
- 46:10SPEAKER_04: That that's a a Taraji V.
- 46:12SPEAKER_04: Henson film.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: Oh wow, it is Taraji V.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: Henson.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, so he finds his women that he loves, and he's like, I'm building something.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: This guy, I I think there's more to this guy than we see online.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: I think that he is deeply connected in Hollywood via fans.
- 46:29SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:30SPEAKER_04: 100%.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: What's his last name?
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: Screenplay by Anton A-N-T-A.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: I think his parents run a studio or his husband runs a studio.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: Somebody runs a studio.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: Mostly then, he's got the most credits as an actor.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: Think about that.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, the last credit was in 1998 as an actor.
- 46:52SPEAKER_04: So he wasn't even in burlesque.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: No.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 46:56SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: I mean incredible.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: Incredible, incredible stuff to know.
- 47:04SPEAKER_04: How old is Steve?
- 47:04SPEAKER_04: Does it say his age?
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:08SPEAKER_02: He was born in 1958.
- 47:11SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: So he's like 61.
- 47:14SPEAKER_02: So Steve, if you're listening, hit us up.
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: Steve, let's get part two of the podcast.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: We're looking part two of the podcast, and we're looking to do a burlesque too.
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: Think about it with J Lo.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: J Lo.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: I think it'd be a hit.
- 47:26SPEAKER_04: I think it'd be a hit.
- 47:27SPEAKER_04: Come on, Steve.
- 47:28SPEAKER_04: This is probably the only podcast on burlesque in the world.
- 47:31unknown: Yeah.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: You might be right.
- 47:35SPEAKER_02: I haven't researched it, but I'm positive.
- 47:37SPEAKER_02: And I think by the three of us watching it, it will start trending on Netflix again.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: It might the algorithm has been shaken.
- 47:48SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 47:50SPEAKER_04: Oh wow, three viewers in three days.
- 47:53SPEAKER_04: What's going on here?
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: I guess we have to remake it.
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: He's the boyfriend of media mogul David Geffen.
- 48:00SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 48:01SPEAKER_02: But that was only in the 80s.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: But but who knows where that's where you get the connections.
- 48:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:06SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 48:07SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 48:07SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: So, Steve, our email is brownhair.comedy at gmail.com.
- 48:13SPEAKER_02: Let's collab.
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: Let's collab.
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: Let's collab.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: And the new plot is that the coronavirus is going to close.
- 48:23SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 48:23SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 48:24SPEAKER_02: No coronavirus.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: Relevance.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: Relevance.
- 48:28SPEAKER_02: Because there could be a coronavirus song.
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: I don't want to write that.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: I don't want to sing that.
- 48:36SPEAKER_04: Oh, so you're going to be in it as well.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: Too late, David Agree.
- 48:39SPEAKER_02: You know what I want?
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: I want that everyone's pivoting to video and the club can't last.
- 48:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:46SPEAKER_02: One of their uh dancers is an Instagram star, TikTok star.
- 48:50SPEAKER_04: Oh, that works.
- 48:51SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: And the type of dancing.
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: They're like at the auditions, they're like, why is everyone dancing like this?
- 48:56SPEAKER_02: Where are the real dancers?
- 48:59SPEAKER_02: And then maybe it's actually a fusion of burlesque and honey.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 49:04SPEAKER_04: Again, you love honey.
- 49:06SPEAKER_02: I did just recently rewatch Honey and Honey 2, so okay.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: There's four of them.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: Four?
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: I think there's four.
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: I gotta watch them all.
- 49:14SPEAKER_04: But can you just do like a direct sequel to the original Honey?
- 49:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:19SPEAKER_04: That's what it's gonna be.
- 49:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 49:21SPEAKER_04: Because that the other aren't the other Honey's sequels like separate to it.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: No, the second one is yeah, it's it's not the second one, Honey, it's she she's not in it, but her mom takes in a troubled girl, and the dance center that Honey starts in the first one is where the whole thing takes place.
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: So it's in the same universe.
- 49:45SPEAKER_02: I don't know about three and four.
- 49:47SPEAKER_04: But so you've got to bring back Jessica Alba for this crossover burlesque honey.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: And then I actually have one more pitch.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: What if there's also a Hamilton crossover?
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: Think about it.
- 49:59SPEAKER_02: Because what if Cher actually sings, teach him how to say goodbye?
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: That's her last number instead.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I think what we're actually building here is a very bad 54 below music variety show.
- 50:13SPEAKER_04: But hold on, what if Cher plays all the roles?
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: Actually, yes, now we're talking.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: Now we're talking.
- 50:20SPEAKER_02: Ina Hamilton.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: Is that where we're at?
- 50:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:22SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 50:23SPEAKER_02: Which is essentially parallel to West Side's story.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:27SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 50:28SPEAKER_02: All the roles.
- 50:29SPEAKER_02: Her imagining Cher and the like white pants, black boots with like the ruffle coats is good for me.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: And just different wigs.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: Enough.
- 50:39SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 50:39SPEAKER_02: She could play King George though.
- 50:43unknown: Think about that.
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: She should.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: She should.
- 50:46SPEAKER_02: Cher.
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: Now, if you're listening, email Lynn Manuel Miranda and Gmail.
- 50:51SPEAKER_02: The brush of what I can't do a show refresh.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: But that was close.
- 50:55SPEAKER_02: She just pray.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:04unknown: Wow.
- 51:04SPEAKER_04: So we've got we've got our Christina, we've got our share.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: Incredible stuff.
- 51:09SPEAKER_02: I'm glad we found that.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna watch it again.
- 51:14SPEAKER_04: So let's talk about what you love about the movie then.
- 51:18SPEAKER_04: What uh what why why did you pick it in the first place?
- 51:21SPEAKER_02: Musical.
- 51:23SPEAKER_02: I yeah, looking at your list, I was like immediately like a musical would be great for us to talk about.
- 51:29SPEAKER_02: We we both agreed at we texted each other at the same time.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: We did it.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: Burlesque.
- 51:34SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 51:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: I think you know, burlesque, the thing that I love most about it is it is not self-aware at all.
- 51:44SPEAKER_02: And I I I love a movie that has like Showgirls that's just so in its own world that nothing else exists and there's no commentary at all.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: It's just about the burlesque club.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: And I also for me, Christina.
- 52:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: For me, again, Christina, um incredible.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh yeah, the cast.
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: I'd say the star-sided cast, musical, not self-aware, top three.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: Top three.
- 52:13SPEAKER_01: What about you?
- 52:14SPEAKER_04: What about me?
- 52:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 52:16SPEAKER_04: Uh Cher's great, and that's about it, I think.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: And that's been consistent for you, is is Cher.
- 52:23SPEAKER_02: And I do want to add that.
- 52:26SPEAKER_04: She's the only one decent person in it, I think.
- 52:28SPEAKER_04: Christina can sing, but other than that, I don't she's not a good actress.
- 52:31SPEAKER_02: I think she's okay.
- 52:33SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 52:33SPEAKER_02: She, you know, there was Britney Singers Crossroads, Mariah Carey Glitter, Christina needed her Bertolasque, Mandy Moore has This Is Us, so or a walk to her.
- 52:42SPEAKER_02: No, that wasn't a visible.
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: But neither is This Is Us, but actually she sings in it.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: She does.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: She sings in it.
- 52:48SPEAKER_04: Tangled.
- 52:49SPEAKER_02: And what did Jessica Simpson have?
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: Her reality show.
- 52:52SPEAKER_02: So they all had a thing.
- 52:53SPEAKER_02: They all had a thing.
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: They all have a thing.
- 52:55SPEAKER_02: It's Celo's turn.
- 52:57SPEAKER_02: It's Celo's turn.
- 52:58SPEAKER_02: And Brandy, what about Brandy?
- 52:59SPEAKER_02: Cinderella.
- 53:01SPEAKER_02: Uh uh.
- 53:01SPEAKER_02: I'm an idiot.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: One of the best movies of all time.
- 53:04SPEAKER_04: She had the best one.
- 53:04SPEAKER_04: She had the best of all of them.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: She really did.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: She made out.
- 53:07SPEAKER_02: She had the best, yeah.
- 53:08SPEAKER_02: Whitney?
- 53:09SPEAKER_02: Come on.
- 53:09SPEAKER_02: Guy, that's incredible.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: I had that on VHS.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: Same.
- 53:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: Hot prints.
- 53:15SPEAKER_02: But this is not about that.
- 53:16SPEAKER_02: No, no.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: But I did recently see a conversation happening on Twitter about how they need to Disney Plus needs to stream it.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: It's insane.
- 53:26SPEAKER_02: What's going on?
- 53:27SPEAKER_02: Where is it?
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: What's going on?
- 53:28SPEAKER_04: Is it not on there?
- 53:29SPEAKER_02: It's not on there.
- 53:30SPEAKER_04: That's crazy.
- 53:32SPEAKER_02: Maybe it's owned by a weird studio, not Disney.
- 53:35SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 53:36SPEAKER_02: Probably some strange race thing because they would have it up if they absolutely.
- 53:39SPEAKER_02: If they knew.
- 53:41SPEAKER_04: Definitely.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: Um, well, I think they've got all the favorites.
- 53:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: The plot is not on my list of favorites, unfortunately.
- 53:49SPEAKER_02: It's not about that.
- 53:50SPEAKER_02: It's not about that.
- 53:50SPEAKER_04: It's not about the plot.
- 53:52SPEAKER_04: No, no.
- 53:52SPEAKER_04: It's it's perfectly I I don't know.
- 53:54SPEAKER_02: When can you say that about the movie and have it be a good thing?
- 53:57SPEAKER_02: You know, it's not about the plot here.
- 53:59SPEAKER_04: It's not about the plot.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: I also like the sound mixing.
- 54:05SPEAKER_02: Doesn't get enough credit.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:08SPEAKER_04: I wonder if it got a sound mixing golden globe.
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: Hope so.
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: A daytime golden globe.
- 54:13SPEAKER_02: What are the the art ones?
- 54:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: The creative art.
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's creative art.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: Emmys.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: That's Emmys.
- 54:19SPEAKER_02: But yeah, they could put it on the Emmys list.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: This should be quali it should have qualified for all of them.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: Tony's, Emmys, Grammys.
- 54:28SPEAKER_04: I mean, it is pretty much a made-for-tv movie, so.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: Which I don't I like that about it.
- 54:35SPEAKER_04: It's a maybe TV movie with a budget.
- 54:37SPEAKER_04: That's about it.
- 54:38SPEAKER_04: Um Okay, so yeah, uh unless like Becky, you have any re like you Becky, you said like you didn't know it before, but you you immediately were drawn to it.
- 54:48SPEAKER_04: What kind of I mean was it just Christina and the fact that it's a musical?
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: What yeah, 100%.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: And the fact that I know I had never seen it, but I knew that I should have seen it.
- 55:00SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: Um, so maybe it was guilt that drew me to it, you know?
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: Um that could be a little bit of that.
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: But uh for me, yeah.
- 55:09SPEAKER_02: I uh you know, again, love Christina, and you think you think you can't love her enough, but I I can't love her enough.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: What's she doing now?
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: She's uh host on The Voice?
- 55:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, right.
- 55:23SPEAKER_01: The voice, ever heard of it?
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: I actually don't think she's on The Voice now, but she's a host somewhere.
- 55:27SPEAKER_04: Masterclass?
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: Master she has a masterclass.
- 55:30SPEAKER_02: She was a host of The Voice for a while, I believe.
- 55:32SPEAKER_02: I don't know if she still is, but Or one of the hosts the Masterclass came out, I think, in like 2014.
- 55:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:40SPEAKER_02: It was a long time ago.
- 55:43SPEAKER_02: It was one of the first ones.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: No.
- 55:45SPEAKER_02: Maybe I'll do that the second.
- 55:47SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 55:49SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 55:49SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: For sure I will.
- 55:54SPEAKER_04: And then you can then then you can make burlesque too.
- 55:57SPEAKER_02: I assume it's expired.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: Um my best friend's works for master class, so I can get him to revive it.
- 56:04SPEAKER_02: Maybe he could refund me.
- 56:07SPEAKER_02: Just kidding.
- 56:07SPEAKER_02: I love Christina.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: I'll give her money.
- 56:10SPEAKER_02: I'll give her money.
- 56:11unknown: I'll give her money.
- 56:12SPEAKER_04: She she gets the the entire uh whatever you spent on it, she gets that.
- 56:17SPEAKER_02: Christina tweets.
- 56:18SPEAKER_02: Does she?
- 56:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:19SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 56:19SPEAKER_02: And she's, you know, she's in the Black Lives Matter movement.
- 56:22SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 56:23SPEAKER_02: She's tweeting.
- 56:23SPEAKER_02: I didn't know she had a Twitter.
- 56:25SPEAKER_02: Oh, she's got a Twitter.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: Does she have an Instagram?
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, she's got a daughter.
- 56:28SPEAKER_02: I'm making that up.
- 56:29SPEAKER_02: I know she has a kid.
- 56:30SPEAKER_02: Does she have a kid?
- 56:30SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty sure.
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: I think she has a little bit.
- 56:33SPEAKER_02: I'm really making some stuff up right now.
- 56:34SPEAKER_02: I hope that she is for it.
- 56:36SPEAKER_04: Um You're not quite the fan you thought you were.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I am.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: Well, the thing is that I really fell off.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: I fell off.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: I'm embarrassed by it.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: Um I fell off when I went to uh college.
- 56:47SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 56:47SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 56:49SPEAKER_01: But I did go to the Christina Aguilera Justin Timberlake tour, and I bought a pair of underwear um that said strict on it, because it says stripped to it.
- 56:59SPEAKER_02: Was the choice you made.
- 57:00SPEAKER_02: That was the choice I made.
- 57:01SPEAKER_02: And then I worked on my jeans at the concert.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: Were it over your jeans?
- 57:06SPEAKER_02: At the concert, yeah.
- 57:08SPEAKER_02: Were other people doing that?
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: No.
- 57:10SPEAKER_02: Were you being goofy?
- 57:11SPEAKER_02: Or serious.
- 57:13SPEAKER_02: Or serious.
- 57:13SPEAKER_02: Think about like the chap.
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: I was like, this is gonna look like the chaps that she wears.
- 57:17SPEAKER_02: And in that way, that's very burlesque of you.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: And then I actually didn't wear them for years because I kept them safe.
- 57:23SPEAKER_02: And then I started to wear them and then they disintegrated within one wear.
- 57:28SPEAKER_02: Do you understand the the you understand?
- 57:30SPEAKER_02: Uh so the journey I went on with these dripped underwear.
- 57:34SPEAKER_02: You wanted to keep them safe?
- 57:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I kept like like a like they're an artifact.
- 57:38SPEAKER_02: Like a poster.
- 57:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: Like a poster, and I'm like, I'm not gonna wear it.
- 57:42SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna keep it safe.
- 57:43SPEAKER_02: And so they stayed in a little like a little fold and one day, I don't know what I was like, I think actually it was in college, and I was like, I have no other underwear, I have to wear these underwear.
- 57:51SPEAKER_02: Like I have to wear them.
- 57:54SPEAKER_04: You brought them to college with you.
- 57:56SPEAKER_02: What?
- 57:56SPEAKER_04: You brought them to college with you.
- 57:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 57:58SPEAKER_02: Were was it the thong?
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: No, they were hipsters.
- 58:02SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 58:02SPEAKER_02: Hipster.
- 58:03SPEAKER_02: I'm picturing a thong.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: Hipster boy shorts.
- 58:05SPEAKER_02: Where did it say stripped on it?
- 58:06SPEAKER_02: The butt to butt.
- 58:07SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 58:07SPEAKER_02: And it was in that funny font, in that like the font that the stripped font?
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: The stripped font that you see some bad tattoos.
- 58:16SPEAKER_02: Um bad tattoo font.
- 58:18SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 58:19SPEAKER_02: And I will also say, yeah, I guess I did was a fan of her still in college because now it's going back to me that I did try to dress up like her freshman year of college in her dirty video.
- 58:30SPEAKER_02: I had the bikini top and I was about to order chaps, and then I changed my mind of what I was gonna dress like.
- 58:39SPEAKER_02: Maybe it was like the white dreadlocks that I was like, what?
- 58:42SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna pass.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna pass.
- 58:44SPEAKER_02: This feels problematic.
- 58:47SPEAKER_02: Uh for so it's been all the poke haunted.
- 58:50SPEAKER_02: I don't want to wanna bring that up, Sam.
- 58:51SPEAKER_02: It was a dance costume.
- 58:53SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 58:54SPEAKER_02: I want to apologize.
- 58:55SPEAKER_02: I've been thinking about my actions and apologize.
- 58:59SPEAKER_02: Childhood dance costumes um have a lot to apologize for.
- 59:03SPEAKER_02: I would say across the board, anyone who was in ballag, jazz tap from the years like 1990 through 1999 have a lot of scrub them from my internet reflecting to do.
- 59:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, a lot of reflecting.
- 59:17SPEAKER_02: Um anyway, so I love Christina.
- 59:21SPEAKER_04: Sammy, you love Christina.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: Do I what?
- 59:24SPEAKER_04: Do you what yeah I can edit it out.
- 59:28SPEAKER_02: You love you.
- 59:29SPEAKER_04: You love Christina.
- 59:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:31SPEAKER_02: I'm on her Twitter.
- 59:32SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to, what was my like I was a big fan of her when she you know first case splashed onto the scene.
- 59:38SPEAKER_02: Splashed onto the scene, you will.
- 59:40SPEAKER_02: Um and I think I was more consistently into Brittany.
- 59:45SPEAKER_02: Not that it's competition, but it was, you know.
- 59:48SPEAKER_04: It was a hundred percent a competition.
- 59:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: Um is on TikTok too.
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: But I was definitely a fan of Christina.
- 59:53SPEAKER_02: I don't think I ever saw her live though.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she's on TikTok and stuff.
- 59:57SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I was just on her Twitter.
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, she's got all the stuff going on.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: I've got my day cut out for me.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she's on, she's all around.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_02: Um, not not to the iconic extent of Britney, in I think in a different way, because Britney is her own sort of social media personality, and we love her for that.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of uh Christina's a bit different.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_02: A lot of around Britney with their lost partition.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_02: So you were a Britney fan then?
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:22unknown: Yeah.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: In sync, Britney.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_02: I loved InSync, but I also loved Factory Boys.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: But um Ridley Westside story.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: Well, I listened to that a lot as well.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_01: I guess the first but we both love Boys to Men.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Boys to Men for me didn't hit until I was probably in high school.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: Um my first tape was The Lion King and then Boys to Men.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: My first CD was Will Smith.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_02: Will Smith.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: Will Smith.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_04: Mine was Will Smith.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_02: That was the year.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: That was incredible.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_04: Big Willie style.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_02: Big Willie style, wow.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_02: Okay, and I'm younger than both of you, so that's why it wasn't for me.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_02: Um I in high school I made a mixed CD with all different Christina Guerrero songs, and then also like Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson, and I titled the CD BBSC, Ban Brittany Spears Club.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_02: Ban Britney Spears Club.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_02: Ban.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_02: Like you were anti-Britney Spears Club.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_02: Anti-Brittany because I felt that she didn't have as good a voice as the um Christina.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: That's correct.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_02: It's not the point.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_04: Well, okay, well, here's something.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_04: Have you seen Crossroads then?
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_02: You don't know who wrote Crossroads?
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_04: So you stuck to it?
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: Shonda Rhimes.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: Wait.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_02: I gotta see Crossroads first movie.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: I gotta see Crossroads enough.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: Now I'll see it.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, we love Shonda.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_02: Um no, I I I I do I love Britney Spears.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_02: I I think there was a good year period where I was like, no.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_02: That was a thing you chose a team you chose everything.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_02: I mean that was like the same thing when those shows um like Laguna Beach or the Hills were on.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_02: There was it was always like you were team this white blonde girl or team this white blonde girl.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: And that's what the media wants us to they want women fighting against each other.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_04: Fighting over white blonde girls.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, exactly.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_02: Historically, white blonde girls have to be you can't just you both you have to choose a side.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_02: You have to choose a side, yeah.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_04: Okay, so let's move on to the next section then, which is uh do you both have I I assume you're gonna have separate things for this, separate choices for this, but uh a movie that you uh people love that you think is bad.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_04: Like a well-reviewed one.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_02: Should have re I should've read it, I should have read ahead of it.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_02: What's yours?
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_04: Mine.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_04: Um The Usual Suspects.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_02: Usual suspects.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_02: So people think that movie is bad, but you like it?
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_04: No, people love people love it and I hate it.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay, we do have one.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_02: That robot one.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: Remember there was like all these AI ex machina?
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_02: Ex Machina.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_02: People are like, people are like, it's feminist, and it's like, no, well, you did a whole presentation at a comedy show about why it was done.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_02: And then we got our first writing job from it.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_02: I wow, yeah.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_02: I can't remember now specifically the things that we said why it was dumb, but we can pull up a presentation one day.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_02: We'll forge still exist.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_02: Um but you know, again, it I think a lot of it um just stems from like, okay, these AI movies, it's always like an incredibly thin, hot AI.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: Sexy, white robot woman.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_02: And and it's I know everybody's like, oh, but she gets her revenge, and it's like, but what if she didn't have to?
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_02: But the thing is, she gets her revenge, but then she's out in the world, and guess what?
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_02: She's still a woman out in the world, and it's gonna suck for her.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_02: It's gonna suck for her.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_02: So I that's not the narrative I want to hear.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_02: It's not what I want to hear.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_02: Let's kill all the men.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_02: The men should have been it would have been better if the men were robots.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_02: Yes, where's our male AI?
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_02: Where's our male AI?
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_02: Thank you, Sam.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_04: In AI.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_04: AI the movie.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_02: Okay, happy.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_04: It's a boy.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_04: But it's a it's still a boy.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_04: It's a not it's not a grown man, it's a boy.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_02: It's out of the count, yeah.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: Okay, so burlesque two is gonna have a male AI.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_02: Okay, this is actually a great point.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_02: In burlesque 2, there should be a hologram AI like Lil Michaela, who's part of the dancers.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_02: Okay, yes.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: And if you don't know who Lil Michaela is, look it up and it'll ruin your day.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_02: Isn't she signed by CAA?
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_04: I don't know who that is.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you think we're joking, but it's a hologram that is she's a fake person who's famous.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_02: She's a robot robot robot AI.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: And she signed Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's very upset.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_02: She's created by uh men at a tech firm.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_04: Of course, yeah.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_02: Anyway, so yeah, ex machina.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_02: Anyway, so that's yeah, gonna be part of Burlesque too.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_02: Of course, love the performances, I'll say, in that movie, but and the house, and the house gorgeous beautiful.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_02: Gorgeous beautiful.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: Um but the reason the bad plot the plot, we're upset by it, yeah.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_04: But what what is plot really though?
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_04: You don't have plot.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_02: We've seen that with burlesque, we don't need it.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_02: Burlesque has debunked the myth that you need a plot in movies.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we are mythbusters.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_02: So think about that.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, I am thinking about it.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: This has been great.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: Uh just like the movie Burlesque.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_04: But it's like the movie burlesque uh for you too.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_04: Um do you have any plugs you want to give?

- 1:06:49SPEAKER_04: That explains the AI.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_02: It's in the future.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_02: Male AM.
