- 0:02Speaker 1: Actually, in Ephesians 1 through 10, we get the picture
- 0:06Speaker 1: of our need in Christ for salvation from our sin.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Because of the world, the flesh, and the devil, we're
- 0:14Speaker 1: dead in our trespasses and sins. And we have to
- 0:17Speaker 1: be made alive together with Christ. Amen? And that's just
- 0:21Speaker 1: good news. We must be born again. We must have
- 0:26Speaker 1: our sins dealt with. Our sins must be nailed to
- 0:30Speaker 1: the cross. And we must be reconciled to God. Amen, hallelujah,
- 0:35Speaker 1: praise the Lord. But it doesn't stop there. We are
- 0:39Speaker 1: also reconciled to one another. And that's what we see
- 0:43Speaker 1: beginning in verse 11. That this reconciliation to God... opens up,
- 0:53Speaker 1: lays the foundation, and is the source of our reconciliation
- 0:58Speaker 1: to one another. Not sociology, psychology, or political science, but
- 1:07Speaker 1: the same gospel. Beginning in verse 11. Look at it there. Therefore, remember. Now, therefore.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Therefore harkens back to verses 1 through 10. Therefore remember
- 1:21Speaker 1: that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh called
- 1:26Speaker 1: the uncircumcision by what is called the circumcision, which is
- 1:31Speaker 1: made in the flesh by hands. Now remember, you Gentiles.
- 1:36Speaker 1: By the way, he's dividing the world, and this is important.
- 1:41Speaker 1: When we talk about the sufficiency of Scripture for our reconciliation, right,
- 1:46Speaker 1: the sufficiency of Scripture is, as it relates to justice
- 1:49Speaker 1: in this regard between us as people. First of all,
- 1:53Speaker 1: we see its sufficiency in that it makes clear who
- 1:57Speaker 1: we are and how we are divided. We see two
- 2:01Speaker 1: groups here, Gentiles in the flesh and the circumcision. Remember
- 2:08Speaker 1: that you were at that time three things, separated from Christ, Secondly,
- 2:17Speaker 1: alienated from the commonwealth of Israel. Thirdly, strangers to the
- 2:22Speaker 1: covenants and promises. Because of that, we had no hope
- 2:28Speaker 1: and were without God in the world. It does two
- 2:34Speaker 1: things here that are incredibly important. One is it identifies
- 2:39Speaker 1: the distinctions that matter. And secondly, it identifies the division
- 2:46Speaker 1: that exists. Now, these distinctions that matter are important because
- 2:51Speaker 1: oftentimes we talk about distinctions and we talk about being
- 2:54Speaker 1: distinct from one another in terms of our race. Race
- 2:59Speaker 1: is actually a social construct. The concept of race is
- 3:04Speaker 1: not a biblical concept. It's not a biblical idea. It
- 3:10Speaker 1: is a constructed idea. You won't find the idea of
- 3:16Speaker 1: races in the Bible unless you find it in the
- 3:20Speaker 1: proper historical context where we see, number one, that we
- 3:25Speaker 1: are all the race of Adam. Amen? One race, one blood.
- 3:30Speaker 1: We are all the race of Adam. There is less
- 3:34Speaker 1: than a 0.2% genetic difference between any of us in
- 3:39Speaker 1: this regard. In fact, we're not even different colors. Amen. Technically,
- 3:49Speaker 1: from a genetic perspective, from a biochemistry perspective, we're all
- 3:55Speaker 1: actually the same color. Our color comes from our melanin.
- 4:00Speaker 1: We've all got melanin just to differing degrees. So it's
- 4:05Speaker 1: not that some of us are, you know, this color,
- 4:08Speaker 1: some of us are that color. No, we're just different
- 4:10Speaker 1: shades of the same color. Some of us just have
- 4:13Speaker 1: more melanin than others. And I want you to listen
- 4:16Speaker 1: to me on this. Listen to me. Just because you
- 4:19Speaker 1: don't have as much melanin as I do, don't you
- 4:22Speaker 1: dare think God doesn't love you as much as he
- 4:25Speaker 1: loves me because he gave me more. You learn to
- 4:35Speaker 1: be satisfied with the little you have. But there is
- 4:48Speaker 1: another separation. There is actually a separation that we do
- 4:51Speaker 1: have here in scripture. It's a real separation. The separations
- 4:54Speaker 1: that we have, the racial categories that we have are artificial.
- 4:59Speaker 1: They are not biblical in nature. Nor are they genetic
- 5:06Speaker 1: in nature. They are artificial based on people's hair and
- 5:12Speaker 1: their features and their skin color and things like that.
- 5:15Speaker 1: That is artificial. It's not real. We've been convinced that
- 5:27Speaker 1: it is, but it's not real. But the Bible does
- 5:29Speaker 1: talk about a real distinction, and that is between Gentiles
- 5:35Speaker 1: and Jews. Now, racial distinctions are things that we have
- 5:41Speaker 1: made up to divide ourselves as individuals, and it's crazy.
- 5:49Speaker 1: It's logically inconsistent. It's inconsistent. I read these forms and people,
- 5:56Speaker 1: you know, what is your race? Human. Actually, no. Actually,
- 6:09Speaker 1: you're African American. How is that a race? Because one
- 6:16Speaker 1: of them is a nationality. Amen? That's crazy talk. How
- 6:24Speaker 1: is that my race? And how is it that I
- 6:28Speaker 1: get to be an African American, but if somebody comes
- 6:30Speaker 1: over here from Egypt or Algeria or Morocco, they don't
- 6:35Speaker 1: get to be African American? Because the first part of
- 6:40Speaker 1: my race is based on my continent. Well, no, not actually,
- 6:43Speaker 1: only the black part of your continent. Oh, wow, okay.
- 6:47Speaker 1: So why use the name of the continent, right? And
- 6:52Speaker 1: then the second part is based on your nationality. How
- 6:56Speaker 1: do you get race from nationality? We made this up.
- 7:04Speaker 1: It's not real. But this distinction is real. And we
- 7:11Speaker 1: didn't make it up, God did.
