- 2:12How you feeling man 8. 92, we want to welcome everybody into
- 2:15the show. Thanks for tuning in yet again.
- 2:17We really appreciate it. Really appreciate it.
- 2:21So brother, we going to talk tonight about.
- 2:24I'm gonna ask you first. I'm gonna ask you first, what is
- 2:27your definition? What you think?
- 2:29Great. Or greatness is hey man, you the
- 2:34best at your craft, man, you know, whatever it is that you
- 2:37do, you the best, daddy. Right, you're right.
- 2:40I mean, it's like you might. I know you might have another
- 2:42definition over there, but that's what I think it is right
- 2:45off the top. Yeah.
- 2:47Is an extent or amount or intensity considerably above the
- 2:52normal or average of of ability, quality or eminence considerably
- 3:00above normal or average, right. So what makes the person great
- 3:07is subjective, but it often involves a combination of
- 3:11positive character traits and skills that impact others.
- 3:14Greatness can be seen. I'm just reading this to give
- 3:17context right And what we going into character trait skills that
- 3:23impact on others. Greatness can be seen in
- 3:26individuals who demonstrate qualities like honesty,
- 3:30compassion, integrity, courage, and the ability to inspire or
- 3:35make a meaningful difference. Here is a detailed look at some
- 3:40aspects of what contributes to greatness.
- 3:43Strong character and values. Integrity, compassion, honesty,
- 3:48courage, skills and ability. Intellectual curiosity and
- 3:52desire to learn. Being open to new ideas and
- 3:56experiences. Constantly expanding knowledge
- 3:59and skills. Impact and influence.
- 4:04Inspiring others, Making a meaningful difference.
- 4:08Being a positive role model and other aspects of perseverance.
- 4:12Humility, you know, resilience. We talked about that before.
- 4:16That lead us to our main. We went through the little
- 4:19appetizer real quick. That mean now we're about to go
- 4:22to the entree. We're about to eat the.
- 4:26Greatest athletes of all time. Oh man, all.
- 4:30Right, so we got a list. So I'm going to go, I'm going to
- 4:34go down this. I'm going to take my time
- 4:36because I know you, I, I know you brought up some on for run
- 4:41for run for his, his show the other night, which was, you
- 4:47know, kind of a different take on Magic Johnson and LeBron in
- 4:52comparison, right. So the greatest athlete of all
- 4:55time. It's a subjective topic with the
- 4:58different criteria and perspectives, influence and
- 5:01rankings. However, some constantly appear
- 5:04in the top like Hey, Michael Jordan basketball, Tiger Woods
- 5:09golf, homebody boxing, Serena Williams tennis, and you know,
- 5:13Simone Biles gymnastics. Now who do you what?
- 5:18Who is your man? Who is your top guy?
- 5:24Man now for me man, almost now since you when you late you set
- 5:30the table with the individual. Yeah.
- 5:34Because I know we're going to get back into the basketball and
- 5:36all that arena in a little bit. But when you lay the foundation
- 5:39as far as individual, it's got to be for me, man, it's got to
- 5:43be it got to be between Ali and I would say Serena.
- 5:49The reason why, the reason why I say, well, you know, of course,
- 5:53Ali, you know, it's a that's an individual sport, right?
- 5:57So you know, you got the box, you know, you getting hit upside
- 5:59here, you got the duck stick and move or whatever, right?
- 6:02So, you know, you ain't got no team in the same thing with
- 6:05Serena on that that tennis court now I ain't you never played
- 6:09tennis out, you know, we know how we did play.
- 6:11Tried it out a little bit. But yeah, it takes some skill
- 6:15and some will to run back and forth, back and forth, up to the
- 6:20net, serving, taking serves from other people and got to give it
- 6:24back to him, you know? That's that's, that's hard, man.
- 6:27That's how. What about?
- 6:27What about Iron Mike though? Since you talk about boxing,
- 6:31what about Iron Mike? Well, I mean, yeah, I might he,
- 6:35you know, he great in his own way too, but not, you know, Ali.
- 6:39Ali was on to me another level. Cause see Ali could go, Ali
- 6:43could go the distance. And I think back then see Ali
- 6:46them, they had 15 roundabouts. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:50And what about, what about George?
- 6:51What? What about throwing George
- 6:53Foreman? And then he and they do the Roma
- 6:55in the jungle or something like that.
- 6:56Them too. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:58They hey, man. That's why I say, man, it's,
- 7:00it's tough, man. They said, they said it's
- 7:02subjective. So I'm, you know, I just want
- 7:04to, you know, even with, I mean, I mean, yeah, you can.
- 7:08Debate it all day. But it's it's tough, man,
- 7:10because like I said, you know, back then they had boxers, They
- 7:14didn't nobody duck, didn't nobody duck nobody like today.
- 7:18True that. You know what I'm saying?
- 7:19You know, Ali and Frazier and Foreman, all them boys fought
- 7:22each other. True that.
- 7:24They did. They did, man.
- 7:26And what about, well, Simone Biles?
- 7:28I don't know. Anybody can do whenever you can
- 7:30do flip. And they can't even give you a
- 7:32score for it because they ain't never seen it, right?
- 7:36That means you are legit. Yeah, you can.
- 7:40You can. You can kind of put her that
- 7:41way. I say it's, it's, it's tough,
- 7:42man. But because I guess a lot of
- 7:44people would probably look at her as like Gabby Douglas, Gabby
- 7:50Douglas kind of type, whatever, even though Simone came and put
- 7:54the chair on top. But you know, before Simone, it
- 7:57was Gabby. True that, you know what I'm
- 8:00saying? So she was, she was knocking it
- 8:01out the box and then, you know, so it's, it's, it's all it's a
- 8:06good topic, though. It's it's really good.
- 8:08What about the dude? I can't think of his name, The
- 8:11one that used to get mad in tennis and go to hidden stuff.
- 8:14What about him, boy? Come on, Mag and row.
- 8:18Yeah. I remember him.
- 8:20Come here. How good was he though?
- 8:22Was he? I know Serena in as a female.
- 8:26She's the greatest female, right?
- 8:29That's that's how I was looking at it.
- 8:31So what about him, man? And as far as being like as, as
- 8:34a male, like who, who, who's the greatest, it's got to be him,
- 8:37right? No, man, I would think Sampras,
- 8:42man. No, no, I forgot the other dude
- 8:44that just retired. But it's, you know, yeah,
- 8:46Sampras, back in the day, too, now.
- 8:48True that, Sampras. Was like he was.
- 8:50He was. He was beast too.
- 8:52Yeah, you know my research, when I did my research, they tried to
- 8:55suppress some of it, but they don't go and get past that.
- 8:58Do it. I was trying to tell you I was
- 9:01just like, if some of the stuff I was looking at, I was just
- 9:03like, bro, like, you know, OK, they say Michael Jordan,
- 9:08naturally they going to say LeBron with Jordan's dominance
- 9:13and and LeBron James longevity and versatility that made right
- 9:19now in this in basketball, you have one and you have 1A because
- 9:26I can't say 1:00 and 2:00 because it's hard to say that,
- 9:31you know, based on LeBron, I mean based on Jordan that he was
- 9:35because we talked about two totally different eras of
- 9:39basketball. And see what I always tell
- 9:42people, man, you know, like a lot of people, you know,
- 9:44sometime they go over their head when they get this Jordan and
- 9:48LeBron comparison. And a lot you'd be surprised at
- 9:51the people that would say that they never heard heard this
- 9:54before. But I will say it's Jordan and
- 9:58Kobe want the same. They put LeBron against Jordan
- 10:05because cause LeBron, you know, every kid growing up wanted to
- 10:09wear #23 So LeBron chose 23 when he was in high school, right?
- 10:15You know, he was a high flyer or whatever.
- 10:16You know, he really, he's really an end game dunker.
- 10:19He ain't no, no flying in there like mic number, whatever.
- 10:22But he's no, back when he was really athletic, he was an end
- 10:25game dunker. So, you know, so when he had the
- 10:2823, he was a high flyer. They they automatically compare
- 10:32him to Jordan. Right.
- 10:34But really, he's a more athletic Magic Johnson.
- 10:37For sure, I agree with that. Because he's a great passer, he
- 10:41can see the floor. He's like a big point guard.
- 10:44So that's, that's who I, that's who I always compare Jordan to.
- 10:47I mean, LeBron to his Magic. But for some reason, because of
- 10:51the the iconic #23 they always, they always put LeBron against
- 10:57Jordan. But really, it's not.
- 10:59It's Kobe. It's Mike, Dennis, Kobe.
- 11:02Yeah, I agree with that man, but for some reason, I don't know
- 11:05what the reason is, I guess because like you said #23 coming
- 11:09out of school and he was the chosen one in high school, you
- 11:13know, coming out of high school. I guess that's why they kind of
- 11:16compared them to Jordan. That's what I guess I would say
- 11:21that. But I mean, you got to think
- 11:24about it, though, to be 6869 and 260 and run the floor like he
- 11:31run it. You got to you got to kind of
- 11:35you got to kind of look at him different.
- 11:37Unlike you, he he he he is more like a no look pass like like
- 11:41magic. But it's kind of those two for
- 11:45some reason. They got them going back and
- 11:47forth and you know who's 1A and 111A, you know?
- 11:52What I mean, right, And you know, like I say, if you go back
- 11:54to the Jordan, the Jordan aspect of it, like growing up, you
- 11:58know, I got a chance to see Doctor J.
- 12:00Yeah. For sure, you know, So it was
- 12:02Doctor J, then Mike came in, moved him out.
- 12:05Then it was Kobe came in. Then the next guy before T Mac
- 12:10in Grant Hill got hurt. The next guy coming on the scene
- 12:12is going to be Ant Man Anthony Ellis.
- 12:15He got that type of game. See, when you look at LeBron,
- 12:19you got magic, you had penny. See a lot of people forget about
- 12:25penny Hardaway 69 point guard shoot, run the floor, whatever.
- 12:29So now you got Magic Penny, then you throw LeBron in there.
- 12:33They thought being Simmons was going to be that same type of
- 12:36dude, 69 point guard, but he didn't.
- 12:38Paying out? No, he didn't.
- 12:39Paying out? That's why I put, that's why I
- 12:40put LeBron on that, that side of the spectrum.
- 12:43But like I say, you know, it's the number.
- 12:44It's just like with kids in high school football or college
- 12:48football, everybody wear that #7 they want to be Mike Vick.
- 12:52Then let me ask you that. What?
- 12:53What do you think they throw Tatum in there because Jason
- 12:56Tatum, the the way he, if he keep playing like he's playing,
- 13:01I don't know who to compare him to.
- 13:03Yeah, he. He's kind of like his own.
- 13:07Yeah, he player, Yeah, he's kind of like his own player, you
- 13:11know? Yeah, he he's built more like
- 13:12McGrady, true lanky or whatever, but he ain't no, he ain't no dog
- 13:18like McGrady, though. Yeah, and I think that's the
- 13:21only thing that's that's making him not be considered as that.
- 13:26He don't have that dog. Like, you know, he don't have
- 13:30it, you know what I'm saying? Like, like Tracy McGrady and
- 13:33those guys had it. Even though we can ball.
- 13:36I've seen him, you know, we went to the game to see him play.
- 13:38He can ball, but he just don't have it, you know what I'm
- 13:43saying? And.
- 13:44See McGrady, you know the injuries got McGrady, but like
- 13:47you said, McGrady had that dog boy.
- 13:50Yeah, I can say, you know, you know Tatum don't, but they kind
- 13:53of got the the game is kind of similar, but it's just like you
- 13:56say, he missing something. He definitely is.
- 13:58But you know, I, I think I think once we're going to see a we're
- 14:03going to really see a big difference once LeBron and all
- 14:07the steps and all the guys step down, we're going to definitely
- 14:11see who going to be who. Because now, you know, they had
- 14:14this debate whether the man from Indiana is a superstar.
- 14:19My man shot the shot the other night and it bounced and dropped
- 14:22in. Now they having that
- 14:23conversation. But I don't think he's there
- 14:26yet. I don't I don't I don't believe
- 14:27he there yet. But it was a.
- 14:28Good shot, man. SGA man.
- 14:31I'm OK. We man, SGA man.
- 14:36That boy nice boy. That boy.
- 14:38Nice. Yes, and that's what I'm saying.
- 14:40So it just it just depends, but I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 14:45I I kind of I think it just depends on like the era, the era
- 14:51you in is the one is who you going to pick and stuff like
- 14:55that. But we're going, we're going to
- 14:56jump back into this thing man, after.
- 14:57The break about them errors, yeah.
- 17:56Military broadcast radio, the station that's giving veterans a
- 18:00voice. Find us on the web at MB radio
- 18:03dot. Opinions expressed in this
- 18:06program are those of the speakers and do not necessarily
- 18:11reflect the views or positions of any entities they represent.
- 18:17Welcome back to man dog 133 with Shaw and hey man so so I know
- 18:23who's talking about the the Jordans and all of them.
- 18:26So there's some more notables up here and then I'm going to go
- 18:29give the breakdown of why they say, you know, why they compare
- 18:34LeBron and Jordan versus versus Magic.
- 18:38All right, So Pele, he was a legendary soccer figure in
- 18:43soccer. His impact on the sport has has
- 18:47achievements, including three World Cups, as well as are well
- 18:51documented. But I'm I'm going to give a
- 18:53breakdown on him too. I'm just giving some some other
- 18:56people that were note that were mentioned as being great in
- 18:59their own area, Pele soccer, Usain Bolt, track and field,
- 19:04Micah Phelps, swimming, hockey, Wayne Gretzky and naturally
- 19:09football, Tom Brady, right. Oh yeah.
- 19:13So Michael Jordan's greatness stem from a a a potent,
- 19:17competent combination of exceptional athleticism and pale
- 19:22skill and mental toughness. He was a dominant scorer.
- 19:26He was a real tough leader, a true showman who captivated the
- 19:32world. Now his some of the key factors
- 19:36about him, his unmatched athleticism.
- 19:42Jordan possessed incredible leaping ability, which we knew
- 19:45they jumped from the the free throw line, his speed, his
- 19:51agility, he'd be able to perform high flying dunks, all kind of
- 19:56stuff. His exceptional skills.
- 20:00He was a, you know, the fadeaway jumper.
- 20:02You know, you remember all that stuff, the fadeaway, all that,
- 20:06you know what I'm saying? His defense, you know, Jordan
- 20:10was a nine time all defense first team selection, a
- 20:14defensive force known for. His he had that.
- 20:19He had that wheel, man. It was like, you know, that old
- 20:22school wheel back in the day, man, Like you ain't going to
- 20:25beat me. That's that's what he had.
- 20:27Like you ain't going to beat me. And to the guys that we were
- 20:30talking to the other night, he from North Carolina.
- 20:34Yeah. Cali boys called calling him
- 20:36out, huh? Yeah.
- 20:37I got to put him out there. I told him I was going to get
- 20:39him back. It's all good.
- 20:41Yeah, he had the road with Carolina.
- 20:44Yeah, yeah. Unwavering competitive drive.
- 20:47He had a a desire to win and a fierce determination that filled
- 20:53his incredible performances. Like the flu game, You know,
- 20:56they got the shoes named after that, the flu game.
- 20:59And, you know, he was sick during that game.
- 21:01But I mean, he showed out though.
- 21:03I mean, he he just had this mental toughness.
- 21:06He had like, the adaptability, like he just had all of these
- 21:11things that made him great. Yeah, I, I watched him play.
- 21:16You watched him probably more than I have, so.
- 21:18Yeah, and it's like you said, man, like we was talking about
- 21:21earlier, you see, he had that. He had that.
- 21:24I think it's like a 43 inch vertical.
- 21:25So he was a high flyer. You know, he could, you know, he
- 21:28did it all. See, that's the difference with
- 21:30him and LeBron. LeBron could fly too, but he
- 21:32couldn't fly like that. Like that's why I say Bron was
- 21:35an end game Duncan and Mike was, you know, you know that that
- 21:39show enough high flyer like Dominique.
- 21:41Yeah, it was like, I mean, thank LeBron 6-8 who came 69, you
- 21:46should be able to dunk some from anywhere in the world and on the
- 21:50GOAT, right? And and then too, like you said
- 21:52about errors, just like the young lady that we had on the
- 21:55show, we was on the show with him the other night.
- 21:58See, the only thing she knew what what she was saying, she
- 22:01said Kobe was her GOAT. Yeah, because, you know, he
- 22:04played for so long. See, when she when she started
- 22:07watching ball, that's all she saw was Kobe.
- 22:10That's it. Growing up, Yeah.
- 22:12Yeah, yeah. So quite naturally, Kobe's going
- 22:14to be be her goat, you know what I'm saying?
- 22:16Yeah, that's a that's a true statement, man.
- 22:19And you know, like with LeBron, like in this era, we we talk
- 22:23about, we can talk about LeBron. LeBron James is widely right
- 22:28now. Right now.
- 22:29Old people catch all breath, old people.
- 22:32I'm saying right now, the old fogey right now.
- 22:36He said. Bron, they'll fight you over.
- 22:38Joy, you ain't like a boy. Get gossiped by the boy the
- 22:41devil. I said calm down old folk.
- 22:44I'm just saying right now in this era, LeBron James is widely
- 22:48considered the NB as GOAT greatest of all time due to a
- 22:52combination of his unparalleled longevity, scoring prowess and
- 22:57versatility as a player. He achieved the NBA all time
- 23:01scoring record. He has won multiple
- 23:04championships, he has constantly LED in various statistical
- 23:08categories throughout his career.
- 23:11His ability to play multiple positions, his leadership on and
- 23:16off the court, on and off the court, and his impact as a whole
- 23:23contributed to his claim to the GOAT title.
- 23:25Let me let me say this too 1 notch.
- 23:29I think that what they've given him over, over over Jordan is is
- 23:35off the court. The new, the new, the new
- 23:37school. Yeah, now.
- 23:38Everybody I'm saying yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 23:41Yeah, he gave him he off the court he was he he done more
- 23:44stuff, you know, then Jordan did.
- 23:46Jordan won't really about. He's about balling into the bag.
- 23:50That's it. Yeah, give me my money and let
- 23:53me get my shoes out. We good all that other stuff.
- 23:57I don't really. Now he has come around, but
- 24:00during his playing career he didn't.
- 24:01He didn't do all that. You know what I'm saying,
- 24:04LeBron, this is a more detailed breakdown of what LeBron has
- 24:08done to the haters out there. Hope Jordan get to see this or
- 24:12if he listening, he's a straight up, straight up with LeBron
- 24:16James hater and his own wax. I put it on wax for you.
- 24:21Wow, Al Jordan or? My son Jordan, you know my son
- 24:24Jordan. OK.
- 24:25I had to make sure, you know, was it a big Jordan or your
- 24:28Jordan? No, we talking about the little
- 24:30Jordan minds, the one that hate on LeBron all the time.
- 24:34Come on man, He he hate LeBron. Come on, Jordan.
- 24:36Hey bro, I'm gonna tell you right now who is his.
- 24:39Guy who is his guy who? He bossing all the way.
- 24:43Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, he yelled. OK, I got see.
- 24:45I see the picture now. Yeah, he bought a dude, but he
- 24:48on wax now. He wanted to be famous.
- 24:50I made him famous, you know. So they're getting some
- 24:55breakdown. LeBron, the the reason why he
- 24:58got the GOAT status, his longevity.
- 25:01He has played for 21 seasons, a rare feat in the enemy in the
- 25:06NBA. His ability to maintain a high
- 25:08level of play for such an extended period of time is
- 25:12remarkable. Again, we talk about error
- 25:16because back in the day when you play against the Detroit Pistons
- 25:20and and you worm and all them, it's different.
- 25:23Yeah, in the Knicks. Well, Oakley and Mason.
- 25:25Yeah, now. You can go through, you can go
- 25:28through the paint, and if you get your arm swiped, they're
- 25:31going to call a foul. Back then, they didn't care
- 25:33about none of that. I think man, for the game today,
- 25:36man, that's what I don't like about the game now, man.
- 25:38I will watch it, but I don't really get really too focused
- 25:42into it. I watched the game now, man.
- 25:44It's like every time the guys go to the basket, they shoot a jump
- 25:47shot. They throwing their hands up at
- 25:49the rear of like yo, where the foul at me?
- 25:51I'm like, just play ball, man. Just play ball.
- 25:53Or they shooting the jumper and if somebody run past them like
- 25:56they gonna block the shot they, you know, flat in their hands
- 25:59out like they falling down like they've been like somebody
- 26:01killed them or something. Yeah, you too big for that?
- 26:04Man, yeah, man, just play ball, man.
- 26:06If I was a real, if I was a real, they probably would.
- 26:08They probably would get rid of me because I wouldn't.
- 26:10I would never make them calls. I'm trying today you get your
- 26:13big self up that. Yeah, that's what I tell them.
- 26:16To get up. And then LeBron, he's all time
- 26:21leading scorer, surpassing Kareem Abdul Jabbar in 2023.
- 26:26He got that on his belt. His he's versatile.
- 26:30LeBron is a versatile player who can excel at multiple positions,
- 26:34scoring rebounds as assistant defense, you know, make him all
- 26:39around player. And that's kind of what they
- 26:42were saying about Jordan. You know, I don't know, I I
- 26:47thought he was a way around the player, you know what I'm
- 26:49saying? That's what I thought.
- 26:50I guess he won't pass in that much.
- 26:52I don't know, but I thought he was well.
- 26:55No, Mike was like, get out the way, like Kobe, give me.
- 26:58The ball and get out the way. I'm trying to tell you, dog,
- 27:03give me the ball and move dog. And that's what that's what
- 27:07that's why he didn't get the assist, I guess you know what
- 27:09I'm saying. I mean, naturally, not Kobe.
- 27:15You got me saying Kobe naturally.
- 27:17Jordan got LeBron in rings. You know, he has, I think he has
- 27:206. LeBron has what, four?
- 27:22Yeah, but he has won four NBA championships, multiple MVP
- 27:26awards for and the Finals MVP. His leadership, everybody like
- 27:32everybody liked playing with LeBron.
- 27:34They didn't like Kobe, not Kobe, but they didn't like Jordan so
- 27:37much. Oh, they ain't like they ain't
- 27:39like Kobe either. Kobe used to cuss them out.
- 27:41They won't like that. Yeah, they didn't like that, you
- 27:44know? They didn't like that part at
- 27:46all, that the impact on the game.
- 27:49Lebron's influence on the game extends beyond statistics and
- 27:53accolades. He is known for his play making
- 27:55abilities, the ability to elevate his teammates and his
- 27:59commitment to the game. But you got to give him that
- 28:01though, because if you going 21 years and you still can put up
- 28:0537 points whenever you want to. Yep.
- 28:08And the crazy part, the crazy thing about it is, man, a lot of
- 28:12these guys now, even though a lot of people may hate on
- 28:15LeBron, yeah, they they are now realizing like this dude went to
- 28:21the the Finals, the especially Eastern, he was in the Finals
- 28:24like every year. Yeah, like 810 years one.
- 28:27If like 10 or something like that, straight years or
- 28:29something. Like that?
- 28:30Nobody, basically. You know what I'm saying?
- 28:32So and now you looking at all these other guys, they can't
- 28:35they, they get to the finals one year and they might not get back
- 28:38no more. Yeah, true.
- 28:39That true? Then another thing that they're
- 28:42doing with LeBron that you know that that they're killing them
- 28:45all too. Like they expecting LeBron, a 40
- 28:48year old to be like 20 year old. LeBron didn't make the man 40
- 28:54and he's still playing. And this news, you know, you
- 28:58know, that's why that's why I say man, you know, I give, I
- 29:00give Braun his props. Now I, you know, like I said, I
- 29:03like, I like Braun when he was at Cleveland both times,
- 29:06hometown kid or whatever, but I didn't like him when he was with
- 29:09the Heat Coast. A lot of Cowboy fans, you know,
- 29:12they were Miami Heat fans, so you know how they went.
- 29:15Yeah, you ain't like none of that.
- 29:16Yeah, Then I rock Whedon. I rocked Whedon when he was
- 29:18with, you know, he out in Lai like him, you know, out there,
- 29:21you know what I'm saying? You know, change the scenery or
- 29:22whatever. But that's why they give.
- 29:24That's why they give Brown so much flak, man.
- 29:27Yeah, I mean, he's 40. Yeah, you got and that's where
- 29:29people keep forgetting he's 40 bro, and he's putting up more
- 29:34points at 40 and some of the guys is just coming into the
- 29:38league or been in the league half his time.
- 29:42So I mean, I'm all I'm saying is this 'cause we up against this
- 29:46break and I'm gonna, I'm gonna come back and break down the
- 29:48GOAT debate. We're going to give, you know,
- 29:50I'm gonna give statistics and whatever on LeBron and and
- 29:54whatever. Let me say this to y'all, the
- 29:57man 40. Stop hating on him, dog. 40 and
- 30:01still running that point guard yes, like magic.
- 30:04That's why I say he's like magic.
- 30:06He can go down. He can go down in the post hey?
- 30:09Hey, we up against the break, y'all?
- 30:11We'd be right back. Y'all all right?
- 34:16Military broadcast radio The station that's giving veterans a
- 34:20voice. Find us.
- 34:21On the web at MB Radio. Opinions expressed in this
- 34:26program are those of the speakers and do not necessarily
- 34:31reflect the views or positions of any entities they represent.
- 34:37Welcome back to Man Talk 133 with Shaw and Daryl.
- 34:41So before we went to the break, we were talking about LeBron and
- 34:45Michael. Now I'm going to see if this is
- 34:49going to help change your mind or who the GOAT really is.
- 34:54I'm just saying they statistically said I, I'm just
- 34:59telling you what they say now. I ain't say it old folk, don't
- 35:02get mad with me. Statistically, LeBron is
- 35:09considered superior to Michael Jordan in several areas.
- 35:15While Jordan holds an edge in certain stats like points per
- 35:19game and steals, LeBron surpasses him in overall points,
- 35:23assists, rebounds, and longevity.
- 35:26Now I know what the argument is. He's been playing 20 years.
- 35:32Jordan played the amount of years he played so he should
- 35:35have more points. You do got a point on that.
- 35:38However, LeBron is the all time leader, leading scorer in
- 35:47assists. LeBron leads in assists per game
- 35:51and total assists. Rebounds.
- 35:54LeBron has significantly more rebounds than Jordan.
- 35:58Longevity. We talked about that.
- 36:00He even played, I don't know, he's 41, so he even played over
- 36:03400 game, regular season games. And then Jordan and all this
- 36:07other stuff, efficient efficiency.
- 36:10LeBron has a slightly higher field goal percentage.
- 36:15I got. To really understand this than
- 36:16than than Jordan, go ahead. Like now I got a good one for
- 36:19you that the old folks going to come at you with.
- 36:21Oh yeah, but they go let me let me finish them off 1st.
- 36:24Yeah, go ahead. I got one for you.
- 36:26Triple double S LeBron has more career triple double S than
- 36:30Jordan. So I'm just saying I'm, I'm, I'm
- 36:36just, I'm giving them the stats. Yeah.
- 36:40Right. But the the argument is going to
- 36:42be is that, hey, he has played longer, which I agree, right?
- 36:48But if you play longer, that means you're more durable and
- 36:51you're more, you know, I mean, he just in my era, you know,
- 36:58it's hard for me because I like Jordan because of his shoes.
- 37:02He has some really nice shoes. But they're going, they're going
- 37:05to say, they're going to say Jordan.
- 37:07They're going to say Jordan. The old time was going to say
- 37:08Jordan because they're going to say he got 6 championship rings
- 37:13and he got 6 MVPS in the finals. I understand that.
- 37:17That's what they going to come with.
- 37:19Come at you with on that. But what did he get, Old people?
- 37:23What did he get before he got with the crew he got?
- 37:26I tried. To tell him.
- 37:28That got it, Pippin. And what did he get before that?
- 37:30I'll wait. I yell about holders.
- 37:33Grant, Dennis Rodman, I'm just what did he get?
- 37:36You see what I'm saying? He didn't get nothing until he
- 37:39they talked about LeBron. He went to Miami.
- 37:42He did what he did, you know? But Jordan didn't win anything
- 37:48either until he got with Scottie and them, you know, all them
- 37:53guys. You see, they act like, you
- 37:54know, they act like with the Jordan, with the Jordan
- 37:56argument, they forget, they act like Jordan only played those
- 37:59six seasons. Yeah, that's what they act like.
- 38:02That's my point. Yeah, you know, So like I said,
- 38:05you know, he caught the Pistons. He caught the Pistons when they
- 38:08was on. They was on the downfall.
- 38:10They was old. He caught it.
- 38:11He caught the Lakers with Worthy and Perkins.
- 38:14Yeah. Boys is on the end.
- 38:15You know, they. Yeah.
- 38:16So it won't really nobody live you.
- 38:18If you ask me, I always had that argument too.
- 38:21Yeah, and that's my, that's what I'm saying.
- 38:23Like I understand what they saying, but up until then he
- 38:27ain't win nothing. And after that he didn't win
- 38:30nothing even though he got 6, but you got everybody declining.
- 38:34He should have been winning. Right.
- 38:37I mean, I'm just saying, you know, and they were saying, you
- 38:40know, who was better? Michael Jordan and LeBron James
- 38:44are two of the greatest basketball players of all time
- 38:47and their stats, accolades, and impact on the game often
- 38:51compared. While both achieved incredible
- 38:55successes, they have different strengths and weaknesses.
- 38:58Jordan scoring I mean he he averaged 3030.1 points per game
- 39:05in his career you know, leading scoring 10 times.
- 39:09Jordan was dominant. He won the defensive year
- 39:12defensive player of the year award being selected to 9 all
- 39:16defensive teams 6 and O like you just said six and O perfect
- 39:20record in the NBA. You know finals and he had a
- 39:24strong 119 and 60 playoff record and that you know his efficiency
- 39:30rating and win shares was was high.
- 39:33LeBron James his play making James is highly skilled.
- 39:38He averaged with averaging 7.2 assists per game in his career
- 39:43longevity naturally 20 years assistant rebounds, assists and
- 39:48rebounds. James consistently leads the
- 39:51league and assistant rebounds showcasing all around impact on
- 39:57the game. James career value over
- 40:02replacement is the highest in NBA history.
- 40:06Highlighting his overall value on the teams.
- 40:09So so I'm saying it's hard to pick a one of these guys because
- 40:17one is got this, the other one has this other.
- 40:20It's hard to say. I got one word that I use talk
- 40:24to a. Lot of people don't use it, but
- 40:27I guess after the day after they hear this lie, they're going to
- 40:29use it. You do the difference between
- 40:33Jordan and LeBron and all these other guys or whatever is he's
- 40:37sexy. See Jordan, he's sexy.
- 40:41He got the he's sexy. What he doing it he make it look
- 40:43good out there. LeBron, LeBron ain't he ain't no
- 40:47sexy type player. You know he's a locomotive.
- 40:50Yeah, he just kind of run down over top, but.
- 40:52He get the job done like when you look at Ant man, Ant man
- 40:55when he he going between legs behind the back, he pull up with
- 40:58the sweet jumper. He looks, you know the sexy he
- 41:00looks sexy doing it. You know he want to use that
- 41:03word and that's what the difference is.
- 41:05Mike made it look good. Yeah, and LeBron, he just, he
- 41:09just run over top. Right.
- 41:11He a freight train. Yeah.
- 41:12He, like I said, he's the point guard, you know, he'd go in the
- 41:15post sometime if he had to and post up or whatever.
- 41:18You know, not saying that Mike didn't do that, but even when
- 41:20Mike did, you know, he, he still made it look pretty with that,
- 41:23you know, that turn around, you know, jump, fade away, jump or
- 41:26whatever. So he, you know, he made the, he
- 41:28made the game look sweet. You know what I'm saying?
- 41:31That's that's what the difference is.
- 41:32So before we move on, I got to I got to do this for my son
- 41:36Jordan. Go ahead, Go ahead.
- 41:38Yeah, put. Him on Jordan LeBron is the
- 41:42goat. I know you don't want to hear
- 41:44it. I understand it you're a Boston
- 41:47Celtics fan you stay out in this you focus on them we good over
- 41:52here with LeBron and Jordan. I'm just saying in this era,
- 41:57base, I just, I just read your stats.
- 41:59I I'm you can't, can't go against the stats, right?
- 42:03Because if you talk about rings, then Bill Ross was the best all
- 42:06time. That's it.
- 42:07I was going to say that too. I'm just saying if we're going
- 42:10to just look at rings alone because they say he's 6 and no,
- 42:13Bill Ross got with 1415, I don't.
- 42:15He got one on every finger and two.
- 42:17And 10 are left and something like that.
- 42:21Got 14 or something, I don't know.
- 42:23We got a bunch of them, you know what I'm saying?
- 42:25So before we move on, I wanted to say that then we could go to
- 42:28Pele, which is the soccer now. In his era he was, it's
- 42:36difficult to say he was better 'cause you in right now you got
- 42:41Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and you got some other people
- 42:45too, but. I remember him a.
- 42:49Little bit, yeah, him too. But but these guys, his era, he
- 42:54played in a different era. Like we kept talking about eras.
- 42:57He played in a different era of football with different tactics
- 43:01and rules. Compare now it's a totally
- 43:06different game than what it was when he was playing.
- 43:09You know what I'm saying? Now like even with LeBron, like
- 43:12some in basketball, you can't lay your arm like you used to.
- 43:15Right hand check, it can't hand check like you used to.
- 43:19So while Pele was as has impressive statistics, including
- 43:24how score Messi's are equally impressive in the Martin game.
- 43:30But let me say this cause now we we good about the break, but he
- 43:35was he is with in in regards to goals his concern he's widely
- 43:40regarded as one of the greatest goal scorers with a legendary
- 43:4412181 goals in 13163 matches. Now he won three he won three
- 43:53FIFA World Cups 5862 and 70. Now, if you compare that now to
- 43:59Lionel Messi, Lionel Messi has has scored over 698 goals.
- 44:05So I mean, he's almost, basically almost doubled what
- 44:10what Lionel Messi has done. Now think about how good he is.
- 44:15Well, it's harder back then too. And think about how good he had
- 44:18to be back then. Right, right.
- 44:21Because he knew. I'm pretty sure they, they, you
- 44:23know, I'm pretty sure back then they was, they was hip checking
- 44:26or whatever you call it. Yeah, it's sliding into people,
- 44:30my ankles and all stuff, you know what I'm saying?
- 44:32So it's it's a, it's always the era thing that we look at this.
- 44:36That era is a lot more tough. Even Cristiano Ronaldo,
- 44:41Cristiano Ronaldo, he scored over 773 goals in his career,
- 44:47including, you know he 133 for Portugal and all that stuff like
- 44:52that. But what I'm saying is based on
- 44:55the era that he that he was playing in and to score that
- 44:59many goals, he was good. We going to pick this up right
- 45:02after the breakout. It's time for a vacation in

- 46:22Welcome back to Man Talks 33. Amen.
- 46:26We talked. We even talked about boxing.
- 46:28We've been talking about running, we didn't talk about
- 46:32basketball, all gymnastics. So now we got to go to, we got
- 46:37to go to one more GOAT before we get out of here dog.
- 46:40Who we got, who we got? We got to go to Tom Brady, dog.
- 46:44We got to talk about a real GOAT.
- 46:46I mean Tom Brady. Tom Brady's remarkable success
- 46:51in the NFL stem from a combination of exceptional
- 46:56skills and waiver and dedication and unparalleled ability to
- 47:00adapt and improve. His accuracy, leadership,
- 47:03ability to read defenses, and work ethic all played in a
- 47:09crucial role in his longevity and dominance.
- 47:12Now, I know without a shadow of a doubt you got something to say
- 47:16about Tom Brady. Before I get into all his stuff,
- 47:19what's your thoughts on Tom? Yeah, he's a goat man.
- 47:23I know, I know some people going to have that.
- 47:26Well, what about Bradshaw with the Steelers?
- 47:28And what about, you know, you know, Montana, you know, they
- 47:32was undefeated in Super Bowls, but Brady wasn't.
- 47:37But, and I ain't saying I ain't knocking New England when they
- 47:39had their defenses. But you know, hey, Bradshaw had
- 47:42that, that, that still curtain with him.
- 47:44And you know what the 49ers had. But but Brady, man, yeah, he, I
- 47:50give him the GOAT, man, because like I said, man, he, like I
- 47:53said, he even left New England, went Tampa in one-on-one.
- 47:56Right, that's what I'm saying. They didn't leave and go nowhere
- 47:59else and win, did they? And from what I understand.
- 48:01No, no, I did did. Did did Jordan leave and go in
- 48:06the Wales and win? No, that's right.
- 48:08That's what he's saying. They don't They, The old people
- 48:10don't like that ball. I'm just asking.
- 48:12I got to ask the questions because this was on the paper.
- 48:15You know what I'm saying? Right, but hands down I give it
- 48:20to Brady and real quick, I know you'll be talking about errors
- 48:23and see like we got kids now, like we're I don't know about
- 48:28nanny problems with teens. That's a lot of people follow
- 48:30Brady, but it was people that kids that grew up.
- 48:35That's the only thing they knew was Brady in New England.
- 48:38You know what I'm saying? It was like they was born in
- 48:40939293 whatever. That's all they knew was Brady.
- 48:46Then let me ask you. What once once they got able to
- 48:48to learn football, when Brady and them started winning and old
- 48:51one or whatever, that's all they knew.
- 48:54Let me ask you this though, this kind of ain't off topic, but
- 48:56still on topic sort of on why. Why did?
- 49:00Why did? People say Aaron Rodgers is
- 49:02great. My I'm just, I mean, he could
- 49:07throw the ball, man, but he won't never really that great to
- 49:10me. I mean, he was alright, you
- 49:11know, I guess he was better than me because I want an NFL player,
- 49:14but. Yeah, right.
- 49:16You see what I'm saying. But I'm just saying compared to
- 49:18other players. Yeah, I guess 'cause he could.
- 49:19They say he was one of the best throws of the football or
- 49:22whatever, but you know what I'm saying.
- 49:24But if he was, you know, he was great as they say he was.
- 49:27He should have won more than one Super Bowl.
- 49:30Yeah, true that, True that. I agree with that.
- 49:32But I'm just saying, like I heard people say, like, you
- 49:35know, he won one, won one Super Bowl and you know, they said he
- 49:39should be considered among some of the greats.
- 49:42I'm like trying to figure out why, like The Jets went and
- 49:45picked them up and I'm just like, OK, tell me what was the
- 49:47reason why y'all picked him up? He didn't do nothing in Green
- 49:52Bay for the the last years he was there.
- 49:55Why, you know? I mean, even Peyton, Peyton,
- 49:58Peyton left Indianapolis and went to Denver and won one.
- 50:01So he got 2, you know what I'm saying?
- 50:03So I mean, you going to put, you'll put what you put Rogers
- 50:07ahead of Peyton, Peyton Manning. Nah, Nah.
- 50:11I don't think I can do that. I don't think I can do that.
- 50:14Aaron had highlights. That's what they.
- 50:17Hey man, and come to the line of scrimmage.
- 50:19He started doing them hands, signals and whatever.
- 50:22You you in trouble? Holland Yamaha Omaha you in
- 50:25trouble for? You in trouble?
- 50:28So you know what I'm saying? I guess.
- 50:30You know, the, I guess the height where Rogers was, I
- 50:32guess, you know, they say he had a, a good, a nice arm or
- 50:35whatever, you know what I'm saying?
- 50:36But you know. But apparently he had a good arm
- 50:40and I know some of the Green Bay folk going to get mad.
- 50:42Y'all don't attack me. I'm just saying he had a good
- 50:45arm, but he must have been good at throwing it to other people,
- 50:47the other team, because he didn't win but won the Super
- 50:50Bowl. So I'm just saying he went to
- 50:51The Jets. Anyway, let me hop back on the
- 50:54GOAT. We're home field advantage.
- 50:56We're home. There you go, games.
- 50:59At home too, in the play. So, so, so Brady.
- 51:05His accomplishments. Died.
- 51:06His accomplishments include a record 7 Super Bowl
- 51:11Championships, 5 Super Bowl MVPS, 3 regular season MVPS, 15
- 51:20Pro Bowl selections, and being an all time lead in passing
- 51:25yards and touchdown passes. And not to mention he was picked
- 51:29in what, the fifth or sixth round?
- 51:32Yep. Sixth round.
- 51:33Yep. So for the people out there that
- 51:36think you can't do nothing, he is living, living proof you can
- 51:42do whatever you want. Like for example, he passed for
- 51:48he was Brady as the all NF LS all time leader in passing yards
- 51:5389,214 and passes 649 touchdowns.
- 52:02Like who? I don't know anybody else going
- 52:05to be able to do that. I'm just going to be honest.
- 52:07And another reason I'll say he'd a goat, which everybody know
- 52:10that anyway. But you got to figure when he
- 52:14was doing all that, you got to figure what kind of, you know,
- 52:16what kind of receivers he had. He had no receivers.
- 52:19He really did. And then that one year that he
- 52:21had Moss, they, they went what, 1617 or something like that.
- 52:26They almost, they almost won, but they lost to the Giants.
- 52:29They almost went undefeated that year, but they lost to the
- 52:31Giants in the Super Bowl. So he had one bona fide receiver
- 52:34that one one season. Most of those guys were
- 52:37receivers. You know, they was coming out of
- 52:40college as X quarterbacks and putting in the receiver position
- 52:45or whatever. You know, like a lot of them
- 52:46guys want bona fide receivers. And and Brady appeared in a
- 52:51record 10 super. Bowls, you know.
- 52:54Like that that right there do is like on a on a whole nother like
- 53:00I I can't think about that he's. On the level though.
- 53:03He's on the level now. This one right here.
- 53:05This is the last one and I, this is your guy.
- 53:08We talked about him on Mr. Dozier's show.
- 53:11You talked about him up here. You know, I kind of think, you
- 53:15know, you wanted to be magic when you was growing up, dog.
- 53:18You talked about my you're a little too short for him, but
- 53:23you can do the passing like magic.
- 53:24I'm just saying like Dunk too, believe it or not y'all, I'm
- 53:27telling y'all the the honest truth.
- 53:30He would you 5758 at the time. Oh, back back then 5-7, yeah,
- 53:34yeah, he could dunk. Then I'm I'm up there.
- 53:37No joke. No joke, He can he can actually
- 53:40dunk. So I want to ask, I'm gonna ask
- 53:44you why wasn't why isn't Magic Johnson like considered in the
- 53:53in the great conversation? Like, why did they not mention
- 53:57him as much as they do like some of the other players, You know
- 54:01what I'm saying? Like, you know, we talked.
- 54:02We we was up here talking and talk and we didn't really
- 54:06mention him as like some of the players that would be one of the
- 54:11top. I think man 'cause like I said
- 54:16earlier, man, they never really seen a point guard that size.
- 54:21Like he was like 6-9. He was, I'm going to say 250,
- 54:25like I said, he won't too much too far off LeBron, but LeBron
- 54:28just a little bit more muscular with the weight lifting.
- 54:31I'm going to say that because see, back then, you know, you
- 54:33had with Isaiah and all them boys, you know, and you know,
- 54:38Archibald and them guys like short point guards or whatever.
- 54:42He came in and leave me 69 or whatever point guard out of
- 54:45college or whatever. And and he got the job done
- 54:49because, like I said, he can, he could play, he could play
- 54:51multiple positions like LeBron do.
- 54:54Yeah, that's why that's why I say that's why I give him the
- 54:57comparison LeBron in comparison to him.
- 54:59And I don't, I don't know why, man.
- 55:02I don't know why they never gave him that, that, that a lot of
- 55:05that recognition. But I look at it, you know, he
- 55:08was one of the greats. Right, so it says, you know
- 55:12Magic Johnson is considered a basketball icon and a top ten
- 55:17all time player. He is not always placed in the
- 55:20same tier as players like Michael Jordan and LeBron like
- 55:23in the GOAT debate. The main arguments against him.
- 55:26Just to answer your questions, the main arguments against him
- 55:30in in the top tier are his defensive shortcomings,
- 55:34relatively lower scoring average compared to other top
- 55:37contenders, and the fact that he played a lot of star taps, play
- 55:43with a lot of star talent, which arguably limits his the
- 55:47perception of his individual impact.
- 55:49At Showtime or Showtime Lakers boy, they were they were some
- 55:52special boy. Yeah, so but you know, I get it.
- 55:56I do give that to you though, see, because he had that, you
- 55:58know, he didn't have the best jump shot.
- 56:00Now he did make, he did make passing look, look, look sexy or
- 56:04whatever you want to use, you know what I'm saying?
- 56:06But like you said, with his, I guess, you know, with his
- 56:08defensive skills or or with his jump shooting stuff like that or
- 56:13whatever, may not, you know, may not have being as good, but and
- 56:17they're probably I could see they're hindering him.
- 56:20Yeah, you know, they said, they said defense.
- 56:21Magic Johnson's defense defense abilities are often cited as a
- 56:26weakness, with some arguing he had he was a poor defender, even
- 56:30though he wasn't a bad one. He just won't break like like
- 56:34Michael Jordan or some other guys.
- 56:36This is this is a significant factor when considering the GOAT
- 56:41conversation as some of the top consenters like Jordan and were
- 56:45exceptional defensive players. Right.
- 56:48But in his defense, though, I would look at him like I know he
- 56:53wasn't as this defense wasn't as great because yeah, they got to,
- 56:56they got to realize that 69 point guard who he had to check.
- 57:01Yeah, true that. You know, he had to check.
- 57:03I know a lot of old people probably don't talk about he had
- 57:05to check. MO Cheeks from Philly, you know,
- 57:07he, he it was hard to stay in. It was hard to stay in front of
- 57:10those guys at 69250 back then. You know, Thomas, you know what
- 57:15I'm saying? Tim, Tim Hardaway and all them
- 57:18boys where they kill a crossover, you know, even
- 57:21though, even though until Hardaway came and Leno magic was
- 57:24pretty much almost on his way out.
- 57:25But you know what I'm saying? Like point guards like that, you
- 57:29know, him 6/9, he had to go all them, you know, 94 feet.
- 57:32Yeah, that's true. You know, SO69 versus 6 foot.
- 57:39This is a big deal. Yeah, point guard with agility
- 57:42that used to handling the ball, you know, like, you know, other
- 57:45point guards can't handle Isaiah so.
- 57:48You know he could. Right, you know what I'm saying?
- 57:51So. So despite the playing in a high
- 57:54paced era, Magic's career scoring average was 19.5 points
- 57:59per game, relatively low compared to the top contenders
- 58:02in the GOAT debate. Individual awards.
- 58:06That's what that's what made me wonder, you know, ask the
- 58:09question like OK he won 3 MVPS, 3 finals MVPS and made NBA all
- 58:17you know all NBA teams 10 times as an as an individual awards
- 58:24didn't reach the same heights as like Jordan got 5-6 MV finals
- 58:29MVPS, 11 all time NBA. All the stuff Jordan got, we
- 58:34already know what he got. But at the same time, Jordan's
- 58:39magic still got some accolades that he can.
- 58:43Not to mention he was, I guess, one of the best for me, one of
- 58:47the best. No look passes that you can.
- 58:49Oh, yeah, you know what I mean? So he was he was he was really
- 58:52nice with it. And then two, let me say this,
- 58:57he probably could have been great.
- 58:59Another point that a lot of people miss is that his career
- 59:03was shortened by his HIV diagnosis.
- 59:06Yeah, he got cut short, yo. Ain't nobody going to play
- 59:08against you. You got that cut you right.
- 59:11You can go ahead and stay on the side.
- 59:13Yeah, back in 91 at that time, yeah.
- 59:14Didn't nobody know what that was, What's going on?
- 59:16You know what I'm saying? So.
- 59:17Yeah, you got to stay on the sideline with that one.
- 59:19Yeah. And then, you know, he had he
- 59:22had his longevity that would I said that was shortened, but his
- 59:28talent that he played with, like you said earlier, his talent was
- 59:32his entire career. He was stacked with all the like
- 59:35Kareem Hall of Famer, his teammate worthy, all those guys
- 59:40like that. Man.
- 59:41It's kind of hard for you to touch the ball so much when you
- 59:46got that right there going on, you know what I'm saying?
- 59:49So hey, we almost out of here y'all.
