- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from kf I
- 0:04Speaker 1: am six forty.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Oh.
- 0:12Speaker 3: She's in a rehab center.
- 0:13Speaker 4: She is at a rehab center.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Look at the irony here. Vehicles go to rehab and
- 0:18Speaker 2: are no longer flying. People like me went into rehab
- 0:21Speaker 2: because we were flying.
- 0:23Speaker 1: And now Handle on the news. Ladies and gentlemen, here's
- 0:28Speaker 1: Bill Handle.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Good morning, Handle here in the morning crew on a
- 0:40Speaker 2: Tuesday morning Taco Tuesday, July twenty first, And let me
- 0:46Speaker 2: say goodbye to or hello. I would love to say goodbye,
- 0:50Speaker 2: but it's a hello by No. I know, I'm just
- 0:53Speaker 2: I'm just having what we used to call a wet
- 0:55Speaker 2: train here that the show is almost over anyway, Okay,
- 1:00Speaker 2: one and a half minutes into the show and we've
- 1:03Speaker 2: already started. Uh Neil, thank you for being with us.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Always a pleasure.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Okay, good night, all right, good night, everybody. We're done.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Conostall, Luigo, Amy all in black today, go into a funeral.
- 1:18Speaker 2: No I got Oh yeah, you do have short sign,
- 1:23Speaker 2: so it's gonna be gonna be a modified funeral.
- 1:26Speaker 4: It's a happy funeral.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, happy. They're all happy as far as I'm concerned. Okay, now, great,
- 1:33Speaker 2: funeral case, which I'll tell you about legally in just
- 1:35Speaker 2: a moment.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I want to share with you.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Remind me of a case out of law school, which
- 1:40Speaker 2: is always fun. Will Coleschreiper, good morning, a happy National
- 1:44Speaker 2: junk food Day.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Oh you tam, right man, and and there you are here,
- 1:50Speaker 3: I am, good morning.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Okay, lawsuit. Here's a law class all right that I
- 1:55Speaker 2: want to share with you. There is something called emotional distress.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I'm sure you've all heard of that, and it's a
- 2:01Speaker 2: cause of action. And I get every morning that's correct,
- 2:04Speaker 2: and I get asked questions on handle on the law
- 2:07Speaker 2: where someone has done something and I'm emotionally distressed, and
- 2:10Speaker 2: I go, I don't care. I sept for emotional distress
- 2:13Speaker 2: every time I wake up and go do the show
- 2:15Speaker 2: in the morning. That's emotional distress for me. Well, the
- 2:18Speaker 2: concept of emotional distress used to be that you had
- 2:23Speaker 2: to be physically injured in order to also have an
- 2:27Speaker 2: emotional distress cause of action, that you never had it
- 2:30Speaker 2: on your own. And then the rules changed, and there
- 2:33Speaker 2: were a couple of things that changed it where either
- 2:37Speaker 2: doesn't have to be a physical injury. One of them
- 2:40Speaker 2: I had to do one of the early ones is
- 2:41Speaker 2: a mother watching her kid being run over. Okay, mom
- 2:45Speaker 2: wasn't injured, but the law accepted that that is legitimate
- 2:49Speaker 2: emotional distress. Okay, So that was one of the pioneering cases.
- 2:53Speaker 2: The other one, which I love a tremendous amount, has
- 2:57Speaker 2: to do with burials. One of the things about the
- 2:59Speaker 2: law it accepts, for some reason, accepts bearing your relatives
- 3:04Speaker 2: as something that people are really into emotionally.
- 3:07Speaker 3: I've never bought that.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And so that case came out of a group of
- 3:13Speaker 2: pall bearers taking the casket and moving it towards the
- 3:18Speaker 2: grave site, and the bottom of the casket fell out.
- 3:22Speaker 2: It was poorly manufactured, and Uncle Murray rolled out of
- 3:25Speaker 2: the casket and started rolling down the little hillside. Okay,
- 3:30Speaker 2: the court said, that's emotional distress. Now, no one was
- 3:34Speaker 2: physically injured, but watching Uncle Murray roll out of that casket,
- 3:39Speaker 2: that is enough. So I just want to share that
- 3:41Speaker 2: with you a little bit of law school history and
- 3:45Speaker 2: case law. Okay, anything else you want to share, everybody, No.
- 3:52Speaker 5: That pretty much covers it.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Yeah, pretty much, And okay, fair enough.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Amy, I was listening to you when you were finishing
- 4:02Speaker 2: up your interview that Halloween convention.
- 4:06Speaker 3: When is that. I know it's at the Long Beach Center.
- 4:09Speaker 6: The Midsummer Scream is August seventh through the ninth of
- 4:13Speaker 6: the Long Beach Convention cent Area.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that sounds good, doesn't it.
- 4:16Speaker 6: It's crazy people in southern California are crazy for Halloween.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Well, I think everybody is. But I think you're right.
- 4:23Speaker 3: I think you're right because the weather is so good
- 4:25Speaker 3: here we are in the middle of October.
- 4:26Speaker 2: The kids go out and they you know, rest of
- 4:30Speaker 2: the country it can be snowing, it can be ice cold.
- 4:33Speaker 4: They used to rain on our Halloween almost every year
- 4:35Speaker 4: up in or.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so, this is why we're so crazy in
- 4:40Speaker 2: southern California. So, I you know, what's really a shame
- 4:44Speaker 2: is that for some reason, the I guess it was
- 4:50Speaker 2: something that people used to do. It was sort of
- 4:52Speaker 2: the culture has actually put razor blades in those apples.
- 4:56Speaker 3: People do not.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Kids do not are not handed apples anymore. So the
- 5:01Speaker 2: thought you can't put razorblaze in him anymore.
- 5:04Speaker 3: You can't.
- 5:05Speaker 7: I don't think that was ever a thing. I think
- 5:07Speaker 7: it's an old wives tale.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Uh yeah, probably the needles.
- 5:12Speaker 2: The Yeah, yeah, Unfortunately that's probably true. It's one of
- 5:16Speaker 2: those things that you don't want to be a wives tale.
- 5:18Speaker 2: All right, let's do it, guys. It is time for
- 5:21Speaker 2: Handle on the News. Did I say, uh, I just
- 5:24Speaker 2: say hello to you?
- 5:25Speaker 3: Didn't I will?
- 5:27Speaker 5: Yes?
- 5:27Speaker 2: Okay, I always forget thank you. Yeah, I did say
- 5:31Speaker 2: hello to Kono. I just I just don't remember if
- 5:34Speaker 2: I ever say hello to you. Solid start this morning, guys, solid, solid,
- 5:39Speaker 2: because Will has such an impact on me and my memory. Okay,
- 5:42Speaker 2: there you go, damn right, damn straight. Okay, guys, time
- 5:45Speaker 2: for Handle on the News with Amy Neil and me
- 5:49Speaker 2: lead story. Here comes another tariff, well, a tariff that's
- 5:56Speaker 2: come back. I went aways come back again. The President
- 6:00Speaker 2: is imposing a fifty percent tariff on most Canadian.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Goods in response to.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Canada retaliating against previous US tariffs. So it's a tit
- 6:11Speaker 2: for tat as they're going back and forth. As we're
- 6:14Speaker 2: going back and forth, and the President declaring Canada has
- 6:17Speaker 2: unfairly discriminated against American cars, alcohol, and dairy products. And
- 6:21Speaker 2: this is where the tariff wars come into being very
- 6:25Speaker 2: interesting because the Republican philosophy is free and open markets.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Yet at the same time, we're now in a tariff war.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But at the same time, the president, and I think
- 6:37Speaker 2: he's right, has said, if you have a country that's
- 6:40Speaker 2: subsidizing its manufactured goods and then selling it around the
- 6:43Speaker 2: world for prices that are less than the manufacturing of
- 6:48Speaker 2: another country, case in point Chinese steel. Chinese were dumping
- 6:53Speaker 2: steel in the United States when they started their massive
- 6:56Speaker 2: steel production, and manufacturers in the US.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Couldn't even compete.
- 7:01Speaker 2: It costs less to buy steel than it was to
- 7:07Speaker 2: manufacture steel.
- 7:08Speaker 3: So what ended up happening a steel industry just collapsed.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So you know, it's if it were a free, open market, yes,
- 7:17Speaker 2: then it would all be fair and China would still
- 7:19Speaker 2: win because they're paying people thirty cents on the dollar
- 7:24Speaker 2: and they have you know, they have those suits, those
- 7:28Speaker 2: fires retarding suits. You've seen those at in steel shops.
- 7:33Speaker 2: You know that aluminum hasmat kind of suit. Well, they
- 7:36Speaker 2: would have one per ten people. They would share it. Okay,
- 7:39Speaker 2: Moving on.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Choking off another waterway, the Iran backed Hooti militia that
- 7:50Speaker 6: controls a significant part of Yemen has declared a maritime
- 7:54Speaker 6: blockade on Saudi Arabia. Of course, one of US's allies.
- 7:59Speaker 6: This move threat to open a new front in the
- 8:01Speaker 6: regional war and further disrupt global energy supplies. It says,
- 8:05Speaker 6: it's going to stop Saudi Arabia from moving oil through
- 8:09Speaker 6: the Red Sea.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Yeah, we're just going to just get tougher and tougher.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And oil prices have already gone up pretty dramatically, as
- 8:20Speaker 2: says Gasoline. And if the Red Sea, which is quickly
- 8:25Speaker 2: supplanting the Persian Gulf as a way of getting the
- 8:29Speaker 2: oil out, well, if that shuts out, is that a
- 8:34Speaker 2: shut boyd?
- 8:34Speaker 3: Does that exacerbate the problem even more?
- 8:38Speaker 2: This is not going to help the Republicans at all,
- 8:40Speaker 2: this entire issue come the midterms. I think the longer
- 8:43Speaker 2: this goes on, the tougher that's going to be. First
- 8:47Speaker 2: of all, it's tougher for all of us. I mean,
- 8:49Speaker 2: gasoline prices are absolutely crazy. We take my car, Lindsay
- 8:55Speaker 2: has a big honkin car which has no gas mileage,
- 8:59Speaker 2: and really pay attention to where we go taking my car,
- 9:03Speaker 2: which she hates. But it's an ev and I have
- 9:08Speaker 2: a why does she hate your car.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Because it is not?
- 9:13Speaker 5: Well?
- 9:14Speaker 2: She likes really big, big cars. She feels safer in them.
- 9:19Speaker 2: She likes the comfort. She just likes everything about big
- 9:23Speaker 2: cars and does not like my car, which is a
- 9:25Speaker 2: smaller car. You know, it's a small suv. So we
- 9:29Speaker 2: really are paying attention to gas prices these days. Okay,
- 9:34Speaker 2: let's see one more and then we'll take a break.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Deal, no deal, no deal, deal, no deal.
- 9:41Speaker 7: So just yesterday, federal judge temporarily blocked Paramount sky Dance's
- 9:45Speaker 7: efforts to complete this big purchase of Warner Brothers Discovery.
- 9:49Speaker 7: So this all deals with that proposed one hundred and
- 9:53Speaker 7: eleven billion dollar merger, and the judge says this raises
- 9:57Speaker 7: serious questions about whether the combination violates USA Anti trust
- 10:02Speaker 7: lots the same argument we've been hearing as this goes
- 10:04Speaker 7: back and forth. Of course, California Attorney General Rob bontas
- 10:08Speaker 7: in the middle all this and wants to freeze the deal.
- 10:13Speaker 7: This is going to give an order to pause the
- 10:15Speaker 7: deal for about fourteen days as they continue to look
- 10:18Speaker 7: through everything. I mean, you're talking about Harry Potter, Scooby Doo, Batman,
- 10:23Speaker 7: Top Gun, ted Lass, so Gain of Thrones, all these
- 10:25Speaker 7: these massive properties and ips in one big bunch.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And HBO, CNN and a bunch of other cable programs,
- 10:36Speaker 2: and the issue is going to be how much of
- 10:39Speaker 2: the market are they going to have? And it looks
- 10:41Speaker 2: like twenty seven percent of the entire movie market or
- 10:43Speaker 2: the media. Is that enough to establish a monopoly or
- 10:48Speaker 2: enough to establish a violation of the anti trust laws?
- 10:51Speaker 3: And we're going to find out over the next couple
- 10:53Speaker 3: of weeks.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Well.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Throwing fire on ice Andrew Baka is a forty three
- 11:01Speaker 6: year old Army veteran, and he is allegedly seen on
- 11:06Speaker 6: video emptying a bucket of gasoline onto the ground outside
- 11:11Speaker 6: an employee entrance to Manhattan's twenty six Federal Plaza and
- 11:17Speaker 6: then lighting it with a lighter and a large firework
- 11:20Speaker 6: in a canister.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Caused a big boom and a big fire outside the
- 11:24Speaker 4: Federal Building feet and a little bit on his feet.
- 11:28Speaker 6: When they tackled him, he was next to a cart
- 11:31Speaker 6: that had a sign on it saying I saw off
- 11:33Speaker 6: our streets. Arabak also had six incendiary devices and other
- 11:38Speaker 6: destructive items. Now, the Federal Building houses dozens of government agencies,
- 11:44Speaker 6: thousands of federal employees, the FBI, and Immigration and Customs enforcements.
- 11:51Speaker 3: So I have a question.
- 11:53Speaker 2: You have a guy who is igniting the front of
- 11:56Speaker 2: the Federal building with a nice insidiory device, five gallons
- 12:00Speaker 2: of gasoline being poured on the sidewalk and then lighting
- 12:04Speaker 2: it on fire in front of a bunch of police.
- 12:10Speaker 2: So was he on his way or coming back from
- 12:13Speaker 2: a mensa meeting?
- 12:14Speaker 3: What do you think?
- 12:15Speaker 7: I think he probably has some mental health issues.
- 12:19Speaker 3: This could guess. Yeah, yeah, probably.
- 12:21Speaker 7: I mean the cops were, there was some security. The
- 12:25Speaker 7: cops were a little bit further away, and there was
- 12:27Speaker 7: some civilians.
- 12:28Speaker 5: I think that helped tackle him.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but if you know, it was probably within one
- 12:32Speaker 2: hundred yards. He starts running and within one hundred yards
- 12:36Speaker 2: are tackling him.
- 12:37Speaker 7: So, as I mentioned Amy, I think he lit his
- 12:39Speaker 7: feet on fire a little bit too hot foot.
- 12:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:43Speaker 7: So the FIFA brawl that you heard Amy talking about earlier,
- 12:47Speaker 7: FIFA opened up in an investigation. Yesterday, Spain's celebration on
- 12:52Speaker 7: beating Argentina and the World Cup took this weird ugly
- 12:56Speaker 7: turned players briefly clashed on the field. I mean not
- 13:00Speaker 7: all of them, they're the Argentinian coach and other players
- 13:03Speaker 7: rushed to de escalate the situation. But now FIFA said
- 13:08Speaker 7: that in their statement that Disciplinary Committee has been appointed
- 13:14Speaker 7: and displarity at disciplinary and ethics prosecuted investigate what took
- 13:20Speaker 7: place and all that stuff.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Yeah, Argentinian midfielder who went up to one of Spain's
- 13:27Speaker 2: players and grabbed them by the throat.
- 13:30Speaker 3: So that no, right, that's know, you have to do
- 13:33Speaker 3: it with your feet. Yeah for the first yea, exactly.
- 13:36Speaker 2: That's very funny when the first there's the first time
- 13:39Speaker 2: that a soccer player playing in the FIFA World Cups
- 13:43Speaker 2: or any FIFA game got a red card after the
- 13:46Speaker 2: game was over.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Wow, red card means you're thrown out of the game.
- 13:51Speaker 3: So he was thrown out of the game after the game.
- 13:54Speaker 4: So how does what does that do? Like the next
- 13:56Speaker 4: World Cup?
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, the next the next World Cup mac of some kind.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I mean, the World Cup has all kinds of requirements
- 14:05Speaker 2: and there's you know, it was a couple of years
- 14:07Speaker 2: of playing for the World Cup to see who who
- 14:10Speaker 2: is eligible to play?
- 14:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it'll get get him on the net.
- 14:13Speaker 7: Should take your points away for that game, and it
- 14:16Speaker 7: would change everything.
- 14:19Speaker 4: One to minus one. No one puts baby in the corner.
- 14:25Speaker 4: That's the only thing I could think of.
- 14:27Speaker 6: Pictures shared on FIFA's official social u met social media
- 14:31Speaker 6: accounts after the World Cup final showing the Spanish team
- 14:36Speaker 6: proudly holding up their trophy on the stage at MetLife
- 14:40Speaker 6: Stadium don't.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Have President Trump in him. He was cropped out.
- 14:45Speaker 6: And then a photo of the Spanish team posted on
- 14:47Speaker 6: Instagram right after the match also does not include President Trump.
- 14:51Speaker 6: But on Monday afternoon, in the White House shared six
- 14:55Speaker 6: pictures from the final on social medium, all of them
- 14:58Speaker 6: have Trump in them.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Do you notice that the statue of the little award
- 15:03Speaker 2: from the fiful World Cups it's kind of minimalist, it's
- 15:06Speaker 2: not a great big deal. Sort of the globe on
- 15:09Speaker 2: top of that pedestal, and I don't know if you
- 15:11Speaker 2: noticed the lighthouse also presented. The actual globe is now
- 15:14Speaker 2: a the head face of Donald Trump.
- 15:18Speaker 5: It is.
- 15:18Speaker 3: It's astounding what we're able to do.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Yeah, it's already the right color, right.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely.
- 15:24Speaker 7: You know what though, you ever go like on Facebook
- 15:27Speaker 7: or social media and you see their photo and you
- 15:31Speaker 7: can tell someone is next to them, but they've been
- 15:34Speaker 7: crubbed out like an X or something. But they liked
- 15:36Speaker 7: the picture of themselves. That's how I feel about this.
- 15:39Speaker 7: They're like, oh, is that an arm?
- 15:41Speaker 3: Around you.
- 15:41Speaker 5: Who's oh nobody do you know who.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Used to do that? A lot?
- 15:44Speaker 2: I mean, crop people out stalin and all of these
- 15:49Speaker 2: dictators have a way when you know, these major players
- 15:53Speaker 2: within the party, within the bureaucracy else and they lose
- 15:56Speaker 2: favor and so the next picture they're gone.
- 15:59Speaker 5: They're gone.
- 16:00Speaker 2: They're gone, X over their face. That No, it's just
- 16:03Speaker 2: they're gone. And then you know they're gone. So this
- 16:07Speaker 2: one is inclusive. Okay, no, we have time.
- 16:11Speaker 3: For one more.
- 16:12Speaker 7: This is just kind of a I don't know, dotting
- 16:15Speaker 7: the I and crossing the te. You have a judge
- 16:18Speaker 7: there in the nation's capital finally putting a trial date
- 16:22Speaker 7: which is in September for that former Olympic canoe racer
- 16:26Speaker 7: you remember, he's sixty something if I remember, and he
- 16:31Speaker 7: was accused of deliberately damaging the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool
- 16:35Speaker 7: after the you know do over that Trump did for
- 16:40Speaker 7: the two hundred and fiftieth Independent celebration. The whole renovation
- 16:45Speaker 7: that originally was said to cost one point five million,
- 16:48Speaker 7: then the cost of the project was exceeded sixteen million.
- 16:52Speaker 7: It was peeling up, apparently the American flag blue was
- 16:56Speaker 7: peeling up, and they had the algae blooms, and you
- 16:59Speaker 7: know I had probably, But this guy is accused of deliberately,
- 17:04Speaker 7: you know.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Tearing facing it, tearing it apart. Now a couple of damage.
- 17:09Speaker 2: They said, no, Therefore it's a fella. He can do
- 17:11Speaker 2: up to eight years in jail. And you know, and
- 17:13Speaker 2: you know that the federal prosecutor is going to go
- 17:15Speaker 2: for the full ten years if he's convicted. A couple
- 17:18Speaker 2: of things about this that I find fascinating. First of all,
- 17:22Speaker 2: Janine Perrot, who is the US attorney in that area
- 17:25Speaker 2: of Washington, said that he violently put his hands into
- 17:30Speaker 2: the water and tore up the tore up the lining.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Violently put his hands in the water.
- 17:38Speaker 3: That's what she said.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Phenomenal. How's that for a legal concept? And then he
- 17:43Speaker 2: was rude to the park police. He was rude, and
- 17:47Speaker 2: he was belligerent to the park police. Also, part of
- 17:50Speaker 2: the crime of defacing public public lands.
- 17:55Speaker 5: Is remorse important.
- 17:57Speaker 3: It is.
- 17:58Speaker 2: And here is the part that all so I find fascinating.
- 18:01Speaker 2: The President has said over and over again that someone
- 18:04Speaker 2: took a box cutter and went three hundred and fifty
- 18:09Speaker 2: feet and cut the lining, and therefore the water seeped underneath,
- 18:15Speaker 2: and the bits and pieces of the lining floated.
- 18:20Speaker 3: They drained the entire pool.
- 18:24Speaker 2: I have yet to see a three hundred and fifty
- 18:27Speaker 2: foot slash going across, which would prove the point that
- 18:31Speaker 2: a vandal did that, as opposed to pieces of this
- 18:35Speaker 2: thing floating to the top. And I guess people that
- 18:42Speaker 2: were collecting it didn't do it violently when they took
- 18:46Speaker 2: these pieces off, because a few of them were charged
- 18:48Speaker 2: with misdemeanor. This is completely insane, I mean completely insane.
- 18:55Speaker 7: In two weeks, I guarantee Trump the Trump organizations going
- 18:59Speaker 7: to be selling pieces of it, with or without algae
- 19:04Speaker 7: for one hundred thousand dollars a pop.
- 19:06Speaker 6: No doubt, California's coast is not for sale. California, led
- 19:11Speaker 6: by Attorney General Rob Bonte, has filed another lawsuit against
- 19:14Speaker 6: the Trump administration, this one over the oil operation off
- 19:19Speaker 6: Santa Barbara County's coast. The lawsuit asks the ninth US
- 19:22Speaker 6: Circuit Court of Appeals to strike down what it called
- 19:25Speaker 6: an unlawful permit issued last month Disable Offshore Corporation by
- 19:30Speaker 6: the US Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. The special
- 19:34Speaker 6: permit waives the company's compliance with a federal pipeline regulation
- 19:39Speaker 6: and also asserts that the federal agency has oversight over
- 19:42Speaker 6: the oil venture.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, this is an administration that just loves oil and
- 19:47Speaker 2: oil production, and we'll move in that direction. And California,
- 19:52Speaker 2: being on the other side, does not like oil, does
- 19:54Speaker 2: not like oil production, and is more into the alternative
- 19:58Speaker 2: green energy. It's just another one of those fights where
- 20:01Speaker 2: the line is drawn that of all the states that
- 20:05Speaker 2: are fighting the Trump administration, the state of California is
- 20:09Speaker 2: at the high end of this, uh in terms of
- 20:11Speaker 2: the fight.
- 20:12Speaker 3: And uh so, we.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Had another two years of California versus the Trump administration.
- 20:18Speaker 2: And the only thing that's the only thing that's going
- 20:20Speaker 2: to make any have any influence are gonna be the courts.
- 20:23Speaker 3: That's it.
- 20:26Speaker 7: Sephorah, the you know makeup place ladies like the Sephora,
- 20:33Speaker 7: right cono you like?
- 20:35Speaker 5: Never mind?
- 20:36Speaker 4: Yes, good job, noil okay.
- 20:41Speaker 7: Sephora has introduced quiet hours. I wish we could do
- 20:44Speaker 7: that here. New initiative designed to offer a cammer in
- 20:49Speaker 7: store shopping experience for customers who prefer reduced sensory stimulations.
- 20:55Speaker 7: So a lot a lot of retail spaces are jumping
- 21:00Speaker 7: on this and creating these environments that are a little
- 21:02Speaker 7: more friendly towards what are referred to as neurodivergent shoppers.
- 21:08Speaker 7: I refer them to as people. I think we're all
- 21:12Speaker 7: kind of somewhere on the spectrum of neurodivergence. But they
- 21:17Speaker 7: have these quiet hours and they've you know, you had
- 21:20Speaker 7: Chuck E Cheeses. Do the Chuck E Cheese do this
- 21:23Speaker 7: where they had sensory sensitive Sundays And this goes back
- 21:26Speaker 7: to twenty sixteen for them, two and twenty three you
- 21:30Speaker 7: had Walmart doing this. Target has done something similar where
- 21:35Speaker 7: they just have quieter hours, not as the TVs flashing
- 21:40Speaker 7: in the music.
- 21:42Speaker 2: I would love to have our show do commercials for Sephora. Hey, everybody,
- 21:48Speaker 2: why don't you go to Sephora and shop and buy
- 21:51Speaker 2: our overpriced items.
- 21:53Speaker 3: It's really good and you can do it just walking around,
- 21:57Speaker 3: maybe even catatonically. Let's stay I don't.
- 22:02Speaker 2: I don't buy Sephora anyway, so what do I know?
- 22:05Speaker 2: I mean, I've never been to a Sophora, not that
- 22:07Speaker 2: I would anyway.
- 22:09Speaker 3: It's for women. I know.
- 22:10Speaker 5: Uh, they're nice stores.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Amy, have you done Sephora?
- 22:15Speaker 1: Yes?
- 22:15Speaker 6: And I will agree they are loud Okay, they're loud
- 22:19Speaker 6: and they smell. Oh great, I mean no, not a
- 22:25Speaker 6: lot of like lots and lots and lots and lots
- 22:28Speaker 6: and lots and lots and lots of perfume.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Okay, san are you a Sephora person? Absolutely? I love Sephora. Okay,
- 22:37Speaker 3: I like Alta too, me too? Yes? What alta?
- 22:41Speaker 5: You know an alta is?
- 22:43Speaker 4: I know, I've it's another beauty store.
- 22:45Speaker 3: I know what an alta and alta kaka, I know
- 22:47Speaker 3: what that is?
- 22:48Speaker 5: Gross?
- 22:49Speaker 3: Okay?
- 22:51Speaker 5: Can we do this on Fridays?
- 22:52Speaker 7: Can we have a like a sensory overload quiet Friday?
- 22:57Speaker 3: Yeah, of course we can. Hey, everybody, it's Friday, and
- 23:02Speaker 3: just relaxed, sit back and listen.
- 23:05Speaker 2: To our show. We should go the other way for
- 23:10Speaker 2: an hour if we possibly can.
- 23:12Speaker 6: The DOJ says UCSD is not color blind. US Department
- 23:17Speaker 6: of Justice says, you see San Diego's medical school I
- 23:22Speaker 6: legally used race in choosing which students to admit and
- 23:25Speaker 6: discriminated against white and Asian applicants in favor of black
- 23:29Speaker 6: and Latino ones. The findings are part of a four
- 23:33Speaker 6: month investigation. You See San Diego's the latest medical school
- 23:37Speaker 6: targeted by the Trump administration in their widening effort to
- 23:41Speaker 6: root out what it alleges our widespread race based admissions.
- 23:45Speaker 6: Other schools that are also facing similar charges Stanford, UCLA
- 23:50Speaker 6: and you see Davis. And at stake is hundreds of
- 23:53Speaker 6: millions of dollars in federal research funding. If the two
- 23:56Speaker 6: sides can't come to an agreement.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean the administry is dead said against
- 24:01Speaker 2: DEI and I have no problem with saying that giving
- 24:06Speaker 2: one race or another preference is not a good not
- 24:11Speaker 2: a good idea, Okay. So with that in mind, it
- 24:15Speaker 2: is illegal to prefer a race straight out, It is
- 24:20Speaker 2: ill legal to do that. They cannot ask race, It
- 24:23Speaker 2: cannot be considered.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Is it being considered?
- 24:26Speaker 5: Yes?
- 24:27Speaker 2: And you know how they consider it the essay part
- 24:31Speaker 2: or the application part. Of the application itself, the school
- 24:37Speaker 2: can look at where does the student come from, what
- 24:41Speaker 2: area of the city, what job do parents do? Are
- 24:47Speaker 2: you the first in you're in your family to have
- 24:50Speaker 2: a college education? I mean you put all of that together.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Guess what you can tell the race of someone. What's
- 24:57Speaker 2: your favorite food? What do you eat at home? That?
- 25:02Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of chiloopas?
- 25:04Speaker 5: Uh?
- 25:04Speaker 2: And or let's say I am who technically is white.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I'm Jewish and it's a technical white person if I'm eating.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Or let's say Iami is going to apply for school
- 25:16Speaker 2: and her favorite meal is lettuce and mayonnaise sandwiches on wonderbread. Hmm,
- 25:22Speaker 2: I wonder what race she is her ethnic background. What
- 25:27Speaker 2: if you put down you love karaoke and you sing
- 25:30Speaker 2: it constantly? Are you Filipino?
- 25:33Speaker 3: Hmm? What if your home.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Address is on a reservation and you live in a
- 25:39Speaker 2: on a tepee? Are you a Native American?
- 25:43Speaker 5: Hm? Tend to live in houses now.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but are shaped like tpis. They're okay, why don't
- 25:53Speaker 2: we move on? Okay, more handle on the news, Continuing on, okay.
- 26:00Speaker 7: E bike injuries up, no crap exponentially because they're obnoxious.
- 26:06Speaker 7: The analysis found that a number of reported e bike
- 26:11Speaker 7: collisions rose almost unfathomably from just two and twenty eighteen
- 26:17Speaker 7: to fifteen hundred and six in twenty twenty four, so
- 26:21Speaker 7: pretty large jump. And they're finding that the injured riders
- 26:25Speaker 7: were aged fourteen or younger. So yes, do we have
- 26:29Speaker 7: standard bicycle mishaps and accidents, absolutely, But they're finding that
- 26:35Speaker 7: the age of the kids riding these e bikes because
- 26:40Speaker 7: parents are giving motor vehicles.
- 26:42Speaker 2: There's that, but also these e bikes can go twenty
- 26:44Speaker 2: eight miles an hour, twenty five twenty eight miles an hour.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Bicycles don't go that fast.
- 26:49Speaker 2: And you know, how does years go about fifteen twenty
- 26:52Speaker 2: hen mine goes twenty twenty miles an.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Hour on wait Years, you've got electric? It's a k
- 26:57Speaker 4: ee bike.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's any bicycle, any tricycle. Because I have no balance.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Well, I knew you had the tricycle. I didn't realize
- 27:04Speaker 4: you cheated and got electric.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, the other vehicle is cheating. Yeah.
- 27:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 27:10Speaker 2: The other day I was I was asking Lindsay because
- 27:12Speaker 2: she has any bike, and why we couldn't. I can't
- 27:16Speaker 2: ride a bike because of my balance issue. And as
- 27:19Speaker 2: we're riding along, I said, do I look kind of
- 27:21Speaker 2: dumb on an etrike? And I said, you look like
- 27:24Speaker 2: an old man with his younger wife. That's what you
- 27:27Speaker 2: look like.
- 27:28Speaker 7: Yeah, A little place for your little basket in the
- 27:30Speaker 7: front for your clothes.
- 27:31Speaker 3: And no, I do, I definitely do. Yeah, I think
- 27:35Speaker 3: we're done.
- 27:36Speaker 4: By the way, guys, you could put the dogs in
- 27:38Speaker 4: the basket.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Uh, you know, I could, I could. They're small enough
- 27:42Speaker 2: to do that. We have a video on Instagram, don't.
- 27:44Speaker 2: We have me riding along in my trike.
- 27:47Speaker 7: I think there's one up there. I don't know why
- 27:51Speaker 7: you would post that.
- 27:52Speaker 5: But why not.
- 27:54Speaker 3: It is weird that your physical.
- 27:57Speaker 7: Imbalance is now matched by your political imbalance.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Oh well said, Well said Neil. By the way, I
- 28:06Speaker 2: really like that swastika tattoo on your arm.
- 28:10Speaker 3: It is it says a lot.
- 28:12Speaker 5: You know that.
- 28:14Speaker 3: You listen to me? All right?
- 28:17Speaker 2: We are done a little bit about the Paramount Warner
- 28:22Speaker 2: sky Dance Paramount sky Dance and then the Warner Discovery
- 28:26Speaker 2: merger which may not be a merger and the politics
- 28:29Speaker 2: of that are completely insane. We'll talk about that coming up.
- 28:32Speaker 2: This is KFI AM sixty.
