- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Episode 183, can you believe it? Luna: I know, it's amazing. And I love that we keep exploring the park. Today we're talking about benches, right? Lucas: Exactly. Benches are a great place to sit and rest. So, the word for bench is 'el banco'. Luna: El banco. That sounds like 'bank' in English, but it's a bench here. Lucas: Right. El banco. Repeat after me: el banco. Luna: El banco. Lucas: Now, if you want to say 'to sit' or 'to sit down', it's 'sentarse'. Luna: Sentarse. That's a reflexive verb, right? Lucas: Yes, good catch. And 'to rest' is 'descansar'. Luna: Descansar. I like that one. So I could say 'I want to rest on the bench'. Lucas: Exactly. 'Quiero descansar en el banco'. Let's practice that. Luna: Quiero descansar en el banco. Lucas: Great. Now, when you're looking for a bench, you might ask 'Is it free?' or 'Is it taken?'. 'Está libre' means it's free, and 'está ocupado' means it's occupied. Luna: Está libre, está ocupado. Got it. Lucas: Let's put it together. Imagine we're at the park and we see a bench. You could say 'El banco está libre'. Luna: El banco está libre. That means the bench is free. Lucas: Perfect. And if someone is sitting there, you'd say 'El banco está ocupado'. Luna: El banco está ocupado. Good to know. Lucas: Now let's practice a little scene. I'll be you, and you can be me. Okay? So, I say 'Mira, un banco. ¿Está libre?'. Luna: Sí, está libre. Vamos a sentarnos. Lucas: Ah, 'vamos a sentarnos' — let's sit down. Nice. Luna: So 'vamos a sentarnos' is 'let's sit down'. Lucas: Exactly. And after sitting, you might say 'Vamos a descansar un poco' — let's rest a little. Luna: Vamos a descansar un poco. I love that. Lucas: Let's practice the key phrases one more time. Say them with me: el banco, sentarse, descansar, está libre, está ocupado. Luna: El banco, sentarse, descansar, está libre, está ocupado. Lucas: You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Spanish, I want to share something honestly. Luna: Yeah, what's that? Lucas: A handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's literally what funds making this many episodes. Luna: Right, it keeps the show ad-free and helps us keep going. Lucas: Exactly. No pressure, just if it's been useful. Okay, back to benches. Luna: Let's imagine we're at the park. I see a bench and it's free. What do I say? Lucas: You say 'El banco está libre'. Luna: El banco está libre. And then I say 'Vamos a sentarnos'. Lucas: Perfect. And then you sit and say 'Qué bien, vamos a descansar'. Luna: Qué bien, vamos a descansar. So nice. Lucas: Alright, let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: el banco. Luna: El banco. Lucas: Sentarse. Luna: Sentarse. Lucas: Descansar. Luna: Descansar. Lucas: Está libre. Luna: Está libre. Lucas: Está ocupado. Luna: Está ocupado. Lucas: Great job, Luna.
