- 0:04Speaker 1: Here comes Ken Rosenthal with the inside scoop. You've got
- 0:07Speaker 1: strip and Todd Father today. Ken, good to see you,
- 0:10Speaker 1: and we've got a big Cubs Dodgers series coming up
- 0:13Speaker 1: this weekend, as big as it can get for late April.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Let's go right to your column. I read it. I
- 0:17Speaker 1: loved it. I thought it was super interesting to dive
- 0:19Speaker 1: into the show. Hao Tani rule. Can you lay it
- 0:21Speaker 1: out and then we'll do some follow ups.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yes, there's been a lot of confusion about this, and
- 0:28Speaker 2: that's why I decided to write about it. Obviously, there
- 0:31Speaker 2: are rules in effect that apply only to Shoho Tani
- 0:35Speaker 2: in the game. One of them enables his team, which
- 0:38Speaker 2: happens to be the Dodgers but previously was the Angels
- 0:41Speaker 2: when this rule was first put into effect, to carry
- 0:45Speaker 2: an extra picture. He counts not against the thirteenth person
- 0:49Speaker 2: limit thirteen picture limit. He effectively becomes a fourteenth pitcher.
- 0:53Speaker 3: That's one rule.
- 0:54Speaker 2: The other rule, which is once he leaves the game
- 0:57Speaker 2: as a starting pitcher, he can remain as ah. Now
- 1:00Speaker 2: these rules again were put in to effect. The first
- 1:04Speaker 2: one in twenty nineteen didn't really apply a twenty twenty
- 1:07Speaker 2: two and the second one in twenty twenty two. He
- 1:10Speaker 2: was an angel back then. So this isn't like MLB
- 1:14Speaker 2: giving the Dodgers a gift. The Dodgers paid for that
- 1:18Speaker 2: gift when they signed Otani as a free agent. And
- 1:21Speaker 2: as I wrote, every team knew that they get that
- 1:25Speaker 2: advantage of a fourteenth pitcher if they signed him, and
- 1:28Speaker 2: that was one of the appeals of Otani. Beyond even
- 1:31Speaker 2: what he can do as a hitter and a pitcher,
- 1:34Speaker 2: it was an outsized impact because of these rules that
- 1:38Speaker 2: were in place, especially the one with the roster. So
- 1:41Speaker 2: you saw Craig Council last week come out and say
- 1:44Speaker 2: that this is bizarre that this only applies to one team.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And I spoke with a head of base operations who
- 1:50Speaker 2: said the two rules combined make for the most lopsided
- 1:54Speaker 2: advantage in the four major professional sports. It's debatable. Not
- 1:58Speaker 2: everyone in the game that way, and it's just one
- 2:02Speaker 2: of these things that teams, some of them express concern
- 2:07Speaker 2: about what other people say. It's fine, and it's just
- 2:09Speaker 2: the way it is. And we all had a chance
- 2:11Speaker 2: to sign on Toni. The Dodgers happened to actually do it.
- 2:15Speaker 3: So on this whole subject here, I want I'm just
- 2:19Speaker 3: trying to get the whole explanation. Everyboy, can I say
- 2:21Speaker 3: he pitches, he can he hits when he pitches, because
- 2:24Speaker 3: I saw the one time he faced the Mets he
- 2:26Speaker 3: didn't even hit that game, Like, so, are they trying
- 2:28Speaker 3: to loosen up his load on hitting and pitching? Are
- 2:31Speaker 3: they trying to take full advantage of this whole thing,
- 2:34Speaker 3: because I see sometimes he hits when he pitches, and
- 2:37Speaker 3: sometimes he does.
- 2:38Speaker 2: That was the one time exception Todd For the most part,
- 2:41Speaker 2: they might do it again. But remember he had gotten
- 2:44Speaker 2: hit in the shoulder, the right shoulder, and they just decided,
- 2:47Speaker 2: you know what, don't hit this day. But pretty much
- 2:50Speaker 2: every other time we've seen him pitch, he has hit.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And the rule is once he is removed from the game,
- 2:57Speaker 2: he can remain in the game as a designated hitter out.
- 3:00Speaker 2: One of the point I should mention that rule was
- 3:03Speaker 2: put into effect and it was agreed upon by Major
- 3:06Speaker 2: League Baseball and the Players Association, both parties. They put
- 3:10Speaker 2: it into effect in order to encourage teams to develop
- 3:15Speaker 2: two way players. That really hasn't happened. We have some
- 3:19Speaker 2: guys in the game who are two play two way
- 3:22Speaker 2: players in College, Jack Caglione, Bryce Eldridge Minor League top
- 3:26Speaker 2: prospect for the Giants, and there are others, but teams
- 3:29Speaker 2: for the most part no longer claim being a third.
- 3:31Speaker 2: By the way, teams for the most part have guided
- 3:34Speaker 2: these guys to one path or the other, and the
- 3:37Speaker 2: players have taken that path or preferred to take that
- 3:40Speaker 2: path because it's quicker to get to the majors doing
- 3:43Speaker 2: one thing than both. There's also a physical and mental
- 3:47Speaker 2: strain of doing both, and ultimately this comes down to
- 3:50Speaker 2: there is one guy on this planet who seems capable
- 3:53Speaker 2: of handling all this, and it's Otani can. This seems
- 3:58Speaker 2: pretty black and white.
- 3:59Speaker 4: I feel like understand it, but I would imagine the
- 4:02Speaker 4: twenty nine other teams wanted anyone but LA Dodgers to
- 4:07Speaker 4: have this advantage right because of their ability. Yes, they
- 4:10Speaker 4: have the Mooki and the Freddy's of the world, but
- 4:13Speaker 4: underlying they are also a well old machine of analytics
- 4:16Speaker 4: and get an advantage. Look at the kids they got
- 4:18Speaker 4: back in like the Dustin may Trade that are apparently
- 4:20Speaker 4: have you gonna hit sixty five homers in triple A
- 4:23Speaker 4: whatever that kid's name is. The Dodgers are good at
- 4:25Speaker 4: everything from A to Z. Is it as black as
- 4:28Speaker 4: white as any other team would be able to take
- 4:31Speaker 4: advantage of it, as good as the Dodgers, or the
- 4:33Speaker 4: Dodgers even more well equipped to take advantage of the
- 4:36Speaker 4: show Hey rule than others.
- 4:40Speaker 2: They're maybe more well equipped simply because of the depth
- 4:43Speaker 2: that they always seem to have, So them having an
- 4:47Speaker 2: extra pitcher playing fourteen against thirteen is always going to
- 4:51Speaker 2: be an advantage, and because they are so good and
- 4:55Speaker 2: so deep that maybe it is more of an advantage
- 4:57Speaker 2: for them. But again, the one thing else The Royals
- 5:01Speaker 2: can do this with cagleon, the Giants can do with Eldridge,
- 5:04Speaker 2: the Mets could have done it with McLean, and these
- 5:06Speaker 2: teams for whatever reason, and the players, for whatever reason
- 5:09Speaker 2: are choosing not to. So while it is kind of
- 5:16Speaker 2: rubbing fans the wrong way, some fans the wrong way
- 5:18Speaker 2: that the Dodgers get this advantage, it is not simply
- 5:22Speaker 2: for them. Other teams can use it too, They simply
- 5:25Speaker 2: have not been either able to or have had the
- 5:28Speaker 2: opportunity to for whatever reasons.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah, can the part of the article like you mentioned,
- 5:34Speaker 1: with the high profile examples and how many two way
- 5:36Speaker 1: players were drafted from twenty twenty one to twenty twenty five,
- 5:39Speaker 1: twenty two of them just none making it makes me,
- 5:43Speaker 1: you know, the I guess Rebel and me want to
- 5:46Speaker 1: see someone like Michael Lorenzen actually get that chance with
- 5:49Speaker 1: a Rockies team that can then get a little bit
- 5:52Speaker 1: more on a trade, right, because theoretically if they did
- 5:55Speaker 1: this and Lorenzen is probably one of the few guys
- 5:57Speaker 1: that could pull this off, you know, if he gets
- 6:00Speaker 1: either twenty starts, as DA's promise, you need to lock
- 6:03Speaker 1: like sixty played appearances. It's not twenty. It's a good
- 6:06Speaker 1: chunk of plate appearances if he's doing that. But then
- 6:08Speaker 1: if he gets moved to a team, that team now
- 6:11Speaker 1: gets to basically have another pitcher on their roster.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:15Speaker 2: And when Lorenzo was a free agent, not this time, Scott,
- 6:18Speaker 2: but a year ago, that was part of his appeal.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It didn't work out that way. He didn't sign under
- 6:25Speaker 2: those conditions. But you mentioned something that is worth raising here,
- 6:30Speaker 2: and it is the qualifications that a player must have
- 6:33Speaker 2: to become a two way player to get that status.
- 6:37Speaker 2: And as you said, it's the twenty innings pitched and
- 6:39Speaker 2: the twenty games started as a position player or DH
- 6:43Speaker 2: three plate appearances per game in either the current season
- 6:46Speaker 2: or one of the previous two. That's hard to attain,
- 6:50Speaker 2: and it's hard to do that with a player in
- 6:53Speaker 2: the big leagues. For instance, Lorenzen, if you're the Rockies,
- 6:57Speaker 2: you'd have to give him sixty played appearances twenty starts
- 7:00Speaker 2: over the course of however many games twenty obviously, and
- 7:04Speaker 2: you're trying to win. The Rockets are trying to get
- 7:06Speaker 2: better like every team you're trying to win, so it's difficult.
- 7:09Speaker 2: But if you developed a player that way, then you
- 7:13Speaker 2: could ease him into this kind of thing and have
- 7:17Speaker 2: him qualify. So again, the idea of it was not
- 7:22Speaker 2: necessarily just the benefit Shoheo Tani. It was to benefit
- 7:26Speaker 2: any other player who wanted to be a two way guy.
- 7:29Speaker 2: And the initial intent was, or at least the initial
- 7:34Speaker 2: hope was that this would spur this kind of thing,
- 7:37Speaker 2: and it just hasn't happened.
- 7:40Speaker 1: There are more than seventy thousand events listed on the
- 7:44Speaker 1: sea Geek app so if you're looking to do basically
- 7:46Speaker 1: anything this spring or summer, there's one place to go.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:49Speaker 5: Seagk has all the concerts, baseball games, World Cup, tickets.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Whatever you need is on sek. Trust me, I'm gonna
- 7:56Speaker 5: be hitting some concerts and some festivals this summer. I'm
- 7:59Speaker 5: gonna be for see Geek.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I can't wait to see Aj getting the best tickets
- 8:04Speaker 1: he can for concerts and festivals. We'll get plenty of
- 8:07Speaker 1: pictures there. But also when he's looking, what he does
- 8:10Speaker 1: is he looks for when he's going to, say an
- 8:11Speaker 1: arena for a concert, a green dot meaning he's got
- 8:14Speaker 1: a good deal in a good spot. That's where Seekek
- 8:16Speaker 1: helps you out. With over thirty five million downloads, see
- 8:19Speaker 1: Gek is the number one rated ticketing app. And of
- 8:22Speaker 1: course we have the code for the FT network Territory
- 8:25Speaker 1: ten for ten percent off your next set of tickets
- 8:27Speaker 1: at Sea Geek. That's ten percent off any tickets with
- 8:30Speaker 1: the promo code Territory one zero. Make sure you click
- 8:34Speaker 1: the link in the description to download the app and
- 8:36Speaker 1: have the code automatically added to your account so you
- 8:38Speaker 1: can use it later. Props to see Geek. Two more
- 8:43Speaker 1: layers here one and I'll speak for my brethren Kratz
- 8:46Speaker 1: and AJ. I know they would ask you this, well, then, Ken,
- 8:49Speaker 1: why did they change the rule to make it a
- 8:51Speaker 1: two year qualification instead of one when Otani was coming
- 8:55Speaker 1: back from the surgery, right, that that is a fair
- 8:59Speaker 1: part of the equation to say, hey, this was catered
- 9:02Speaker 1: to show. Hey, and you know, I'll mix in my
- 9:04Speaker 1: other question too this one so we get both done
- 9:06Speaker 1: in one shot. I know there are some in the
- 9:08Speaker 1: game that don't like the way game by game Otani
- 9:12Speaker 1: affects things where he can pitch and then he's done
- 9:14Speaker 1: pitching and that doesn't affect the lineup card. My answer,
- 9:18Speaker 1: as a fan, especially to that part, is yeah, I
- 9:21Speaker 1: want to see the best player in the world pitch
- 9:22Speaker 1: and hit, and I don't want it to mess things up.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I know you can still do that and lose the
- 9:25Speaker 1: DH whatever, but it gets pretty complicated if you didn't
- 9:28Speaker 1: draw it up this way for two way players.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Absolutely, and it's two things here, Scott. As you mentioned,
- 9:36Speaker 2: was this rule as aj or Eric would ask, hey, man,
- 9:39Speaker 2: it wasn't as met for Rotan. Yes, of course it
- 9:42Speaker 2: was created Forrotani. We all know that. But the idea
- 9:45Speaker 2: was maybe we can have another Otani, or two more
- 9:48Speaker 2: Rotanis or five more. Hasn't happened now. As for the
- 9:52Speaker 2: idea of having him remain in the game as a
- 9:55Speaker 2: hitter after he's done pitching. Yes, we do all want
- 9:59Speaker 2: to see the best player in the world. And there
- 10:02Speaker 2: was a manager who told me he doesn't like that
- 10:04Speaker 2: aspect of it, because no other position player can be
- 10:07Speaker 2: removed from a game and then of course continue to hit.
- 10:11Speaker 2: But that part of it, to me is something that
- 10:16Speaker 2: you're doing for the fans as well, and it's just
- 10:20Speaker 2: something that benefits the game overall. Doesn't give the Dodgers
- 10:23Speaker 2: an advantage. Yes, he gave the Angels an advantage when
- 10:26Speaker 2: this rule was originally put in, and the Angels weren't
- 10:29Speaker 2: smart enough to keep this guy. So that's the rub here.
- 10:34Speaker 2: And I know because the Dodgers seem to possess every
- 10:38Speaker 2: advantage in this game, we all know that that it
- 10:41Speaker 2: does tick people off and it makes people think, oh,
- 10:45Speaker 2: here we go again. But that wasn't the original plan
- 10:49Speaker 2: because he was with the Angels at the time and
- 10:51Speaker 2: it wasn't the intent either. Change gears a little bit.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Can We started the show in the NL East, and
- 10:59Speaker 4: we're gonna, I guess close the show here as well.
- 11:01Speaker 4: It's low hanging fruit talking Philly Mets struggles. We saw
- 11:06Speaker 4: your social video talking about them. You know, you've been
- 11:10Speaker 4: around the game longer than me, You've studied it much
- 11:11Speaker 4: more in depth than me. I guess, at what point
- 11:14Speaker 4: twenty five games in, at what point do you press
- 11:16Speaker 4: a panic button? Or at what point is there to
- 11:18Speaker 4: no return red sox can be thrown in this bucket
- 11:21Speaker 4: as well. I you know we saw Corus quote about
- 11:25Speaker 4: losing earlier in the show as well. I guess you
- 11:28Speaker 4: know there's veteran presence all up and down all three
- 11:32Speaker 4: of those teams. Who do you see turning it around?
- 11:35Speaker 4: Who do you see falling back? And at what point
- 11:37Speaker 4: is it blow the whole thing up?
- 11:39Speaker 3: Russ.
- 11:40Speaker 2: It's a great question, and it's different in every case.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Usually in the past, forty games was kind of the
- 11:48Speaker 2: first checkpoint you would see. But with the Mets, for instance,
- 11:54Speaker 2: now little indoor injury changes things. But if they cannot
- 12:00Speaker 2: on this homestand prevail or get like a six and
- 12:04Speaker 2: three record against the Twins, Rockies and Nationals, then you
- 12:07Speaker 2: would think, yes, there might be something done with the manager,
- 12:11Speaker 2: something entirely different. I don't know, but it most likely
- 12:14Speaker 2: would be the manager. That's who it always is now,
- 12:17Speaker 2: with Lindor being hurt. It seems to me that should
- 12:20Speaker 2: give Carlos Mendoza even more grace. And the last two
- 12:24Speaker 2: nights have been better for them, butshek got the big
- 12:26Speaker 2: hit last night. Maybe they'll snap out of it. Ultimately,
- 12:30Speaker 2: their pitching is still a huge question beyond Holmes, Peralta
- 12:35Speaker 2: and McClain. I don't know where that's going now. The
- 12:38Speaker 2: Phillies are obviously going through it right now too, and
- 12:43Speaker 2: they've lost, however, many.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Games in a row.
- 12:47Speaker 2: That's an interesting question too because there again, and the
- 12:52Speaker 2: Red Sox fall into this too. The greater blame in
- 12:55Speaker 2: each case, most of us would agree falls with the
- 12:58Speaker 2: front office, with the head of base Operations, for putting
- 13:01Speaker 2: these teams together the way that those guys have, and
- 13:05Speaker 2: I'm sure those heads of Baseball Operations David Stearns, David
- 13:09Speaker 2: Dombrowski and Craig Breslo want this to play out a
- 13:13Speaker 2: little bit more, obviously to make themselves look better if
- 13:16Speaker 2: things do turn around, and just overall, they need to
- 13:19Speaker 2: see more of a sample. That's fair and that should happen.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Actually in each case, especially with Philadelphia in some respects
- 13:27Speaker 2: because they are such a veteran group. Now Boston they
- 13:31Speaker 2: are not such a veteran group, and my concern with
- 13:34Speaker 2: them all long after losing Bregman on top of trading Devors,
- 13:38Speaker 2: was they lacked that presence that kind of would take
- 13:43Speaker 2: the pressure off their younger players. Now Wilson Catreras does
- 13:47Speaker 2: that to an extent. Trevor Story is the client phase
- 13:50Speaker 2: of his career. He's a good leader, but he's not
- 13:53Speaker 2: the guy. Bregman was the guy. And if not for
- 13:56Speaker 2: if not Bregman, then maybe Pete Alonso, maybe someone else.
- 14:00Speaker 2: But they, in my opinion, asked too much of their
- 14:04Speaker 2: young players Roman Anthony specifically coming into this season, and
- 14:09Speaker 2: we're seeing that play out in their offense.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Now.
- 14:13Speaker 2: If they pitch as well as they think they're going
- 14:15Speaker 2: to pitch and totally was really good last night in
- 14:17Speaker 2: place of Sunny Gray, then maybe they get to where
- 14:20Speaker 2: they want to be. But I have never liked where
- 14:24Speaker 2: they were going to the season offensively, and that was
- 14:27Speaker 2: a question. We had questions with the Mets. We had
- 14:29Speaker 2: questions with the Phillies too. So far, at least they
- 14:32Speaker 2: all seem to be playing out in the negative. We'll
- 14:35Speaker 2: see if it continues.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Hey, Ken, I'll get to a team on the other
- 14:39Speaker 1: side of the spectrum, The Cups have dealt with a
- 14:42Speaker 1: ton of arm injuries, right They're missing starters, they're missing
- 14:45Speaker 1: a ton of relievers lately, and you're about to cover
- 14:48Speaker 1: that game the Saturday one for Fox with the Dodgers,
- 14:51Speaker 1: and the Cubs were excited about it. We hit the
- 14:52Speaker 1: whole PCA storyline earlier in the show, so paint the
- 14:56Speaker 1: picture here. We know what's going on with the Dodgers.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I think we need to give more life up to
- 15:00Speaker 1: a Cups team that's off to a nice start. The
- 15:02Speaker 1: only thing is they look back and they're like, the
- 15:05Speaker 1: entire division is playing well, this is going to be
- 15:07Speaker 1: a fight.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I don't want to dampen Cubs fans enthusiasms, but I
- 15:12Speaker 2: think they know this. They caught the Mets and the
- 15:14Speaker 2: Phillies when both those teams were playing at their absolute poorest.
- 15:18Speaker 2: So this will be a much different test for them obviously.
- 15:22Speaker 2: And yes, they have had a ton of injuries, especially
- 15:26Speaker 2: in the bullpen. I believe it's five relievers now on
- 15:29Speaker 2: the injured list. Where they are strong is their offensive depth.
- 15:34Speaker 2: This is a lineup that is pretty much deeper than
- 15:38Speaker 2: Cubs lineups in the recent past. Bregman helps certainly with that,
- 15:42Speaker 2: and Horner is at the top of his game right now.
- 15:46Speaker 2: They are just kind of a dynamic group able to
- 15:49Speaker 2: do a lot of different things. Now. The Central and
- 15:52Speaker 2: this is maybe the biggest surprise of the season, is
- 15:54Speaker 2: a much different animal than most of us thought it
- 15:57Speaker 2: would be. The Pirates are better, much better, I don't know,
- 16:01Speaker 2: but they're better. The Reds are playing really well. They're
- 16:05Speaker 2: doing it without Hunter Green and nic Ludolo and some
- 16:08Speaker 2: offensive players as well. I don't know that I trust
- 16:11Speaker 2: them as much as I probably should because of the
- 16:14Speaker 2: way they've played. They've got a great manager in Francona.
- 16:17Speaker 2: But at the same time, you can take nothing away
- 16:19Speaker 2: from them. They have done this while not even really hitting.
- 16:23Speaker 2: It's Dela Cruz and it's salth Stewart and that's about
- 16:27Speaker 2: it offensively. So that division, and of course we cannot
- 16:30Speaker 2: forget the Brewers, and of course we can't even forget
- 16:33Speaker 2: the Cardinals, who have played much better than everyone thought
- 16:36Speaker 2: they would. That division has gotten really interesting. Now how
- 16:40Speaker 2: interesting it stays, I don't know, because you don't know
- 16:43Speaker 2: if these teams will sustain what they've accomplished in the
- 16:46Speaker 2: first part of the season, but it's making for a
- 16:49Speaker 2: quite competitive group and something that's going to be fascinating
- 16:53Speaker 2: as we have the season play out.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and it wasn't looked that way heading into the season.
- 16:59Speaker 1: No one's like, oh, look at the Jugger not National
- 17:01Speaker 1: League Central, But at least for a month, it looks
- 17:04Speaker 1: that way right now. So ken enjoy the series. It's
- 17:06Speaker 1: gonna be fun out there, Dodgers and Cubs. We'll watch
- 17:08Speaker 1: on Fox on Saturday and we'll see on Fair on Monday.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Thanks guys.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Just a gem of an article by Stephensbitt in The
- 17:21Speaker 1: Athletic what is life really like for MLB players on
- 17:24Speaker 1: the road? So he was answering some questions. We'll go
- 17:27Speaker 1: with the headliner here. He said that there was actually
- 17:30Speaker 1: a clubhouse last year that really got scientific with it,
- 17:33Speaker 1: or unscientific, since you know, it was just one clubhouse
- 17:36Speaker 1: with players. But they graded each MLB team set up
- 17:39Speaker 1: in three areas, stadium, ambiance facilities, and then the city itself.
- 17:45Speaker 1: They wiped out last year the A's and the Race
- 17:46Speaker 1: since they were both in minor league parks and temporary homes.
- 17:50Speaker 1: They said the big loser was the Baltimore Orioles bottom
- 17:54Speaker 1: three in all three categories, including the worst facilities. They
- 17:58Speaker 1: said the visiting clubhouse is out dating, the weight room
- 18:01Speaker 1: is in a hallway next to some garbage choots, so
- 18:04Speaker 1: they took the cake, and I must say Ross will
- 18:07Speaker 1: start there. Camden Yard is one of my favorite places
- 18:09Speaker 1: to go as a fan, but I guess it sucks
- 18:11Speaker 1: for players, huh.
- 18:13Speaker 4: I don't know if I would have voted at thirty
- 18:15Speaker 4: of thirty Todd. I'd like to give your take on
- 18:17Speaker 4: that one. You know, in COVID they did move a
- 18:20Speaker 4: lot of weight rooms out kind of into an open space,
- 18:23Speaker 4: and the Oriels just decided to not move their visiting
- 18:25Speaker 4: weight room back to where it belonged, so it really
- 18:28Speaker 4: is just out in the middle of kind of like
- 18:30Speaker 4: a downstairs concourse.
- 18:32Speaker 2: I don't mind it.
- 18:33Speaker 4: It's better than it being in a ten by ten room,
- 18:35Speaker 4: which it kind of was before. I do like Camden
- 18:38Speaker 4: I mean, especially as they got better through my career.
- 18:41Speaker 4: That place was fun to play with, play in even
- 18:44Speaker 4: when they weren't great, but they started to really pick
- 18:46Speaker 4: it up, filling it out and had a pack stadium
- 18:50Speaker 4: and then the hotel. I'm not going to say where
- 18:52Speaker 4: it is, even though most people know what it is.
- 18:54Speaker 4: It's an extremely nice hotel. It's among I think players'
- 18:57Speaker 4: favorite hotels. It's just the area isn't necessarily the safest
- 19:00Speaker 4: to walk to and from. Maybe from the stadium is
- 19:03Speaker 4: what they tell us, you know, make sure and take
- 19:05Speaker 4: the bus home. So I'm guessing that plays into it.
- 19:07Speaker 4: But no, it it would have been like a mid
- 19:09Speaker 4: ground for me, not thirty For.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Thirty, yeah, I would have it down there. The batting
- 19:16Speaker 3: cages there's only one cage or you're only allowed certain
- 19:20Speaker 3: times to go in that, you know, for being petty
- 19:23Speaker 3: like it says. I mean, yeah, I Tampa Bay one
- 19:29Speaker 3: of those where, yeah, it's like I don't see there's
- 19:33Speaker 3: something that just seemed dark, you know what I mean.
- 19:35Speaker 3: I don't like when you walk in there, you're just like,
- 19:38Speaker 3: it doesn't seem like the lighting's good and stuff. But
- 19:41Speaker 3: I have to really dig down deep.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Into the lighting there. I mean, even for fans too,
- 19:45Speaker 1: is really tough. I haven't seen how they renovated it
- 19:47Speaker 1: just now. But you know how you go into some
- 19:49Speaker 1: of those convenience stores and they have those really dingy,
- 19:52Speaker 1: annoying lights that to me when I was in the trap,
- 19:56Speaker 1: that's what I felt like.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Well in Baltimore too, like you say you're a pinch
- 19:59Speaker 3: hit or like you you gotta walk a ways if
- 20:02Speaker 3: like you want to get some work in. It's big.
- 20:04Speaker 3: You gotta walk go back into the clubhouse, walk about
- 20:08Speaker 3: sixty yards seventy eighty yards to get to the home
- 20:15Speaker 3: patting cage. And then you're like, all right, I gotta
- 20:17Speaker 3: go quick because somebody gets up. Then you got to
- 20:19Speaker 3: come all the way back, like there's no good way
- 20:21Speaker 3: of getting there.
- 20:22Speaker 4: So I got a small one about Camden. For whatever reason,
- 20:26Speaker 4: the bullpens out there, they're in like left center, and
- 20:28Speaker 4: they're they're, you know, kind of on top of each
- 20:30Speaker 4: other and the visiting ones on top. And if you
- 20:32Speaker 4: get called into the field, it's it's about a twenty
- 20:36Speaker 4: step walk in cleats on cobblestone. They cobblestone the path
- 20:41Speaker 4: to get onto the field. So you're like doing this
- 20:43Speaker 4: like little like baby deer tiptoe thing to just not
- 20:46Speaker 4: eat it as you try and go pitch to major
- 20:49Speaker 4: league hitters, you know what. So that that alone, I
- 20:51Speaker 4: think I'm putting them in at least my mid twenties.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Detroit's a tough one. I mean it's tight in there, Detroit.
- 20:58Speaker 3: It would be on one of my bottom line there,
- 21:00Speaker 3: you know. And I'm not talking about the people, I'm
- 21:02Speaker 3: just talking about clubhouse. Yeah, the batting cages are right there.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I'm looking down some some teams here.
- 21:10Speaker 1: I'll give you more things.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Okay, that's got to be.
- 21:16Speaker 1: That one was disqualified since that doesn't exist any and
- 21:20Speaker 1: also they're an attempt spot right now. But here they
- 21:23Speaker 1: said stadium Ambiance Cubs ranked first. This is going off
- 21:27Speaker 1: one team and their players, but again, just take it
- 21:29Speaker 1: for what it is. They ranked Stadium Ambiance for the
- 21:32Speaker 1: White Sox last. I think that's a little bit unfair
- 21:35Speaker 1: because you're doing this last year the White Sox are
- 21:38Speaker 1: terrible when the like the year the White Sox, I
- 21:40Speaker 1: mean when I covered them in the playoffs, it was awesome. No,
- 21:44Speaker 1: you think it should rank near the bottom there with them?
- 21:47Speaker 3: It was it was tougher.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, let's see what else do we have. Rangers
- 21:52Speaker 1: were first in facilities brand new spot it better be.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Sweet.
- 21:58Speaker 1: It was nice ye city that that these players liked.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Padres were first twins in red. Cincinnati and Minnesota were
- 22:07Speaker 1: rated tied for last.
- 22:09Speaker 3: An undercover really good city. That I liked and not
- 22:12Speaker 3: many people will. With Milwaukee, yeah, they got good atmosphere there,
- 22:16Speaker 3: they got you know, a couple of restaurants, they got
- 22:18Speaker 3: basically the what is it University of with Milwaukee.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Wisconsin whatever they Wisconsin.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Yep, good good bars there to hang out afterwards if
- 22:28Speaker 3: you wanted to go. Good time with the boys for sure.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say the obvious ones at the top
- 22:34Speaker 4: are gonna be the ones you're thinking of Manhattan, Chicago, Miami,
- 22:37Speaker 4: San Diego, West Coast, family can come, maybe go to
- 22:41Speaker 4: the beach.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Those are going to be the heavy hitters.
- 22:43Speaker 4: And then the ones at the bottom, you know, unfortunately
- 22:46Speaker 4: kind of Midwest, you know, kind of like industrial cities
- 22:49Speaker 4: where you stay and maybe not as much walking around
- 22:53Speaker 4: as you can do in some of those other cities,
- 22:54Speaker 4: maybe not as much sunlight as you get in some
- 22:56Speaker 4: of those other cities. So I think you got to remember, though,
- 22:58Speaker 4: there's there's only thirty stadiums in there, big stadiums, and
- 23:00Speaker 4: most of them are great, but you got to rank them.
- 23:02Speaker 4: So the ones at the bottom doesn't mean they're crummy,
- 23:04Speaker 4: just means they're not Dodger Stadium, not pet Go part all.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Right, So I'm going to rip through some other questions
- 23:10Speaker 1: that were in this article where Nesbit tried to get answers,
- 23:13Speaker 1: and we can get the take from youtwo. So he
- 23:17Speaker 1: basically has taken questions from fans about player life and
- 23:20Speaker 1: then he is asking it to players in the clubhouse.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So I'll go over the next question that was on
- 23:25Speaker 1: there scheduling. What is life like after games? And what
- 23:31Speaker 1: is life like in the morning before a day game,
- 23:34Speaker 1: or what your schedule is? So Strip give us the
- 23:37Speaker 1: breakdown of those two things. After a game, what's the
- 23:39Speaker 1: most common schedule for people? And then how does a
- 23:41Speaker 1: day game look for you?
- 23:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess I'll try to speak for maybe' well,
- 23:46Speaker 4: I'll speak for pitchers, Todd, and you can speak for
- 23:47Speaker 4: position players. You know, for me, when I was a
- 23:50Speaker 4: starter four days a week, I'd go home and crash
- 23:53Speaker 4: and be asleep ten minutes with them being in the door.
- 23:55Speaker 4: But if it was the day I pitched, you're wired
- 23:57Speaker 4: like you just drank two red bulls. You know, you
- 24:00Speaker 4: could be so crashed from the output that you maybe
- 24:03Speaker 4: go sit. But I would say on days that I pitched,
- 24:05Speaker 4: or days where I was hot in the bullpen, and
- 24:07Speaker 4: maybe you had to launch a caffeine at six pm
- 24:10Speaker 4: to get ready for a you know, a sixth inning inning.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Two am is a very expected bedtime. And then the mornings. Man,
- 24:19Speaker 4: once I had kids, if it was a day I
- 24:21Speaker 4: wasn't pitching, I was up eight am getting as much
- 24:23Speaker 4: family time as I could, wife taking advantage of me
- 24:26Speaker 4: being home, for sure. And then a day game, Man,
- 24:30Speaker 4: you're up, you're in the car, and you're going and
- 24:33Speaker 4: right when you get there, you're eating, and you're going
- 24:35Speaker 4: to work and you're getting ready for a game. Day
- 24:36Speaker 4: games sneak up on you in a hurry. But yeah, Tod,
- 24:39Speaker 4: what do you think I mean, position players? I think
- 24:41Speaker 4: the spectrum is all over the map of playing a game,
- 24:44Speaker 4: going home and trying to calm yourself down to get
- 24:46Speaker 4: in bed. I don't imagine that's an easy thing.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Hard, very hard, especially if you're buy yourself on the road.
- 24:52Speaker 3: I was never the video game guy. I would watch
- 24:55Speaker 3: a movie or you know, certain teams like, hey, man,
- 24:58Speaker 3: who's playing the card game tonight? Go over to a
- 25:00Speaker 3: room play some cards, so, you know, two three in
- 25:03Speaker 3: the morning, and woke up twelve thirty, took a shower,
- 25:08Speaker 3: got to change I'd have my first meal at some
- 25:10Speaker 3: of the stadium sometimes call the calling by, Hey, what
- 25:13Speaker 3: do you got cooking there? Make sure it's ready for
- 25:15Speaker 3: me to rock grease them a little bit with some
- 25:18Speaker 3: cash and wait. Now my days start not the most ideal,
- 25:22Speaker 3: probably luggish that days. But but you know, those are
- 25:26Speaker 3: the things I you know, I miss hanging with the boys.
- 25:28Speaker 3: I don't miss hanging up that late people.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Life is expensive, so you should start looking at things
- 25:35Speaker 1: that are unnecessarily expensive, like your phone bill, and say,
- 25:39Speaker 1: is there a better option?
- 25:41Speaker 5: Min Mobile is a better option than if you have
- 25:42Speaker 5: other companies, especially when you have kids like me and
- 25:44Speaker 5: you have everybody and their brother on your family plan.
- 25:48Speaker 5: Min Mobile give you a cheaper option with the same coverage.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Yes, and some wireless bills are crazy with the bogus
- 25:54Speaker 1: fees and the free perks. They are not free perks.
- 25:58Speaker 1: They cost you more in the law run. So just
- 26:01Speaker 1: go to mint Mobile check out what they have to offer.
- 26:04Speaker 1: All plans come with high speed data and unlimited talking
- 26:07Speaker 1: text delivered on the nation's largest five G network. If
- 26:10Speaker 1: you like your money, Mintmobile is for you. Shot plans
- 26:13Speaker 1: at mintmobile dot com slash territory. That's mintmobile dot com
- 26:17Speaker 1: slash territory. Upfront payment of forty five dollars for three
- 26:20Speaker 1: month five gigabyte plan required equivalent to fifteen bucks a month.
- 26:24Speaker 1: New customer offer for first three months only, then full
- 26:27Speaker 1: price plan options available. Taxes and fees extra see mint
- 26:31Speaker 1: mobile for details. Did you feel kind of wired, like
- 26:34Speaker 1: you can't just go home and hit the pillow?
- 26:37Speaker 2: No?
- 26:37Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah. Ultimately now I would say wired, just
- 26:40Speaker 3: like you know, you take the bus ride home, Strip
- 26:43Speaker 3: talk to me and you're like leaning against the window.
- 26:45Speaker 3: You're tired. But then when you get to your room,
- 26:47Speaker 3: you're like, why am I not tired again? So it's
- 26:50Speaker 3: just it's weird. You know, it's a weird a little.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Bit what you're talking about, Todd.
- 26:54Speaker 4: That's kind of your time to be a normal human,
- 26:57Speaker 4: you know, especially if you're on the road, Like that's
- 26:59Speaker 4: what you want to go meet up with, you know,
- 27:01Speaker 4: a couple buddies on the team and play some cards
- 27:03Speaker 4: or get a beer or whatever and put the stress
- 27:07Speaker 4: of a baseball day behind you. And you know, it
- 27:09Speaker 4: just happens to be the hours from eleven to two
- 27:11Speaker 4: in the morning when everyone else does it, Like when
- 27:13Speaker 4: they get home from work at a reasonable time. So
- 27:16Speaker 4: I think part of it is just wanting to feel
- 27:19Speaker 4: you know, normal like camaraderie and friendship as opposed to
- 27:22Speaker 4: kind of when you're at the field, it's you know,
- 27:25Speaker 4: much more cutthroat. You're getting ready for work. So I
- 27:27Speaker 4: think it just, yeah, you're not necessarily wired. It's not
- 27:29Speaker 4: like I couldn't go to sleep. It's like, man, I
- 27:32Speaker 4: am awake, and I want to take advantage of this
- 27:33Speaker 4: time and be around like people that I want to
- 27:35Speaker 4: enjoy just being around with.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I like that. More great questions, Let's get to swag.
- 27:42Speaker 1: How much free stuff do you get when you're a
- 27:45Speaker 1: current player? Shrip. We'll start with you coming from the Dodgers.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Did you see some guys just with piles of freebies
- 27:53Speaker 1: and so much that they didn't even know what to
- 27:55Speaker 1: do with it? How did that all work?
- 27:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one.
- 28:00Speaker 4: In our notes use the word grotesque, a grotesque amount
- 28:03Speaker 4: of stuff. I thought that was a good adjective. But
- 28:06Speaker 4: it's about right, man. Yeah, the Dodger days are insane.
- 28:10Speaker 4: I mean, they do like fifteen Bobblehead nights in a season.
- 28:13Speaker 4: They do giveaways that all trickles down to us.
- 28:16Speaker 1: I want them.
- 28:16Speaker 4: I have them somewhere are behind me. You can't see
- 28:18Speaker 4: him in my screen. I probably once a month would
- 28:22Speaker 4: box up stuff and just send it home, and some
- 28:25Speaker 4: of it I'd keep. But what I would do is
- 28:27Speaker 4: with my friends and family, I would do like a
- 28:29Speaker 4: Santa Claus Christmas Day every off season, where I would
- 28:32Speaker 4: just lay out the stuff that I knew I was
- 28:34Speaker 4: either gonna get new ones next year or was never
- 28:36Speaker 4: gonna wear, and my friends would just come in and
- 28:38Speaker 4: pick it out, like you know, it was Christmas morning.
- 28:40Speaker 4: And that was actually a lot of fun and I
- 28:43Speaker 4: enjoyed doing that. But yeah, it's I'll stick with that
- 28:46Speaker 4: word grotesque. I mean, it is just an unreasonable amount
- 28:49Speaker 4: of stuff.
- 28:50Speaker 3: You talk about Christmas morning. Remember you go on that
- 28:52Speaker 3: ten game road trip and you come back and you're like,
- 28:55Speaker 3: what's going to be at the locker and you'd have
- 28:56Speaker 3: four or five boxers waiting there for you, and same thing.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Both my brothers wear the same size shoe, same size shirts, hats, pants,
- 29:06Speaker 3: and I would come in with the big Duffel bag
- 29:09Speaker 3: and spread it out too as well, and they would
- 29:11Speaker 3: they would fiend on it and they would battle for it.
- 29:13Speaker 3: So yeah, it's a lot, and you'd have some clubhouse guys.
- 29:17Speaker 3: I don't know about you, you've been around the box.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Some guys would be a little stingedy, Hey man, can
- 29:20Speaker 3: I get this? They're like huh, And I'm like, oh,
- 29:23Speaker 3: come on, I need another extra large shirt, like can you?
- 29:26Speaker 3: And then most of the time guys just would have
- 29:27Speaker 3: it in there for you. But yeah, yeah, Christmas Morning
- 29:31Speaker 3: came every ten days off to the road.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Did you guys ever get freebies where it was beyond
- 29:38Speaker 1: say apparel or baseball gear. You know, companies trying to
- 29:42Speaker 1: send stuff and sometimes they're like, oh this is great, then.
- 29:44Speaker 3: You would you would just spread it on the table. Yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 3: somebody somebody brought in you know these One year was
- 29:50Speaker 3: these rubber rings. They've gave like a hundred of them,
- 29:52Speaker 3: and the guys like, I don't need all these or
- 29:54Speaker 3: you know what is the stuff? Hats, glasses, stuff like
- 30:00Speaker 3: that alone.
- 30:01Speaker 4: Yeah, that would some of the cool ones over the
- 30:03Speaker 4: years in LA where guys would get sponsors, like I
- 30:06Speaker 4: think Joso Puige was had like Beats and we'd just
- 30:09Speaker 4: show up one day and we'd have Beats.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Magic Johnson an owner.
- 30:12Speaker 4: One day we showed up, every player had three Magic
- 30:14Speaker 4: Johnson signed jerseys. You got a Michigan State one, a
- 30:17Speaker 4: Team USA one, and the Lakers one. Probably the one
- 30:20Speaker 4: that was the most ridiculous was I think it's either
- 30:23Speaker 4: Toohn seventeen or eighteen. Max Munsey hits a homer into
- 30:26Speaker 4: the water in Oracle off of Madison Bumgarner, and Bumgarner
- 30:30Speaker 4: starts chirping at him and Monsey tells him to go
- 30:32Speaker 4: get the ball out of the ocean or whatever it
- 30:33Speaker 4: is he said. For no reason, nobody set it up.
- 30:36Speaker 4: We get back to La. Everyone had three different shirts
- 30:39Speaker 4: from three different brands with Max Mounsey's face on it
- 30:42Speaker 4: or some silhouette of Max Munsey telling Bumgardner to go
- 30:44Speaker 4: get the ball.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Out of the ocean. I still have those.
- 30:47Speaker 4: Just got three shirts from one one off situation.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a money machine.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Joey did a beats By Droid two thing there.
- 30:56Speaker 1: He just handed everything out to everyone. That's good stuff. Okay,
- 31:00Speaker 1: next one, how much did you guys prep for umpires.
- 31:04Speaker 1: We'll start with strip because it's changing now. It's not
- 31:08Speaker 1: all there. You still can look at how an UMP
- 31:11Speaker 1: calls a game and be able to work with them.
- 31:13Speaker 1: The umps are changing, and of course, if a call
- 31:16Speaker 1: is too far off, you can abs them with the challenge.
- 31:19Speaker 1: But how much did you prepare in your reports based
- 31:23Speaker 1: on how the umpire calls a game?
- 31:26Speaker 4: So I would say I got the print out as
- 31:28Speaker 4: part of my pregame prep all the time of who
- 31:30Speaker 4: the umpire is, and you know, he kind of has
- 31:32Speaker 4: heat maps of what he calls might be east west,
- 31:35Speaker 4: might be north south. As far as how much input
- 31:38Speaker 4: I put into it, it maybe I would say it
- 31:41Speaker 4: had to be pretty apparent that he had favoritism to
- 31:44Speaker 4: one side or the other for me to actually say
- 31:46Speaker 4: I'm going to change the way I'm going to go
- 31:48Speaker 4: out there and pitch. But it's definitely something that I
- 31:51Speaker 4: wanted to know and wanted to be able to take
- 31:53Speaker 4: advantage of if I could. But I would say actually
- 31:56Speaker 4: minimally went into.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Effect pretty much zero. There was paperwork it would show
- 32:02Speaker 3: like the heat maps of where he called strikes, But
- 32:05Speaker 3: a lot of the times I swung out a lot
- 32:06Speaker 3: of pitches, so differently, I was in swing mode already.
- 32:11Speaker 3: And guess what, you know, You're gonna get screwed every
- 32:13Speaker 3: once in a while, if not a little bit more
- 32:15Speaker 3: than once in a while, and you just got to
- 32:16Speaker 3: take your lumps when you can get him. You know,
- 32:19Speaker 3: one day he might be calling the low pitch. One
- 32:21Speaker 3: day he might be calling the middle end pitch. Like
- 32:23Speaker 3: everything changes, you know, how they go that day. So
- 32:26Speaker 3: I took zero accountability.
- 32:28Speaker 1: In it, okay, but you you would kind of feel
- 32:30Speaker 1: it during the game and be like, hey, he's not
- 32:33Speaker 1: giving me this pitch's got to play out, okay.
- 32:36Speaker 3: And once they established that, if they change it, then
- 32:39Speaker 3: there's a problem, you know what I mean. Then all
- 32:41Speaker 3: of a sudden they don't call it. You're like, what
- 32:43Speaker 3: are we doing here? Right?
- 32:44Speaker 1: You just want the consistency, that's all.
- 32:46Speaker 4: Yeah, And I was distubborn about it, Scott like, like
- 32:50Speaker 4: a Mike Trout is a good example. Mike Trout just
- 32:52Speaker 4: hammers anything down in the zone. So I would throw
- 32:54Speaker 4: him nothing but basically fastballs up in the zone to
- 32:57Speaker 4: a fault. And if the umpire, if I executed a
- 33:00Speaker 4: one that I think was a strike and he balled it,
- 33:02Speaker 4: I'm going right back to that lane. It doesn't matter
- 33:04Speaker 4: because I'm not throwing Mike Trout something down in the
- 33:06Speaker 4: zone that he can you know, slug. So it's it's
- 33:09Speaker 4: a lot of times it was matchup depending and didn't
- 33:11Speaker 4: necessarily matter the umpire's tendencies. It's still you know the
- 33:15Speaker 4: hitter strength and weaknesses for me.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Right, you're not going to make the bring you down
- 33:19Speaker 1: to the nitro zone for trout?
- 33:21Speaker 3: Thanks?
- 33:21Speaker 1: Yeah, rather for it. Exactly saw that in New York.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Oh right, I saw that the other day. Yeah, the
- 33:30Speaker 1: nitro zone was back baby, all right. Last one from fans,
- 33:35Speaker 1: And this one's interesting because in the article he actually
- 33:38Speaker 1: didn't get answers. He was like, I just didn't get
- 33:40Speaker 1: anything interesting to deliver back. So we'll see if you
- 33:43Speaker 1: guys have something for us. How did big leaguers prevent sunburn?
- 33:46Speaker 1: And obviously the basic answer is sunscreen, but like, how
- 33:49Speaker 1: much did you have to think about that all of
- 33:51Speaker 1: the time since you're outside baking in the sun so
- 33:54Speaker 1: often from spring training through the end of the season.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Yeah, that was it for me. When did you hear
- 34:00Speaker 3: right when I got the spring train of ears and
- 34:02Speaker 3: nose and neck?
- 34:04Speaker 1: How like would you do it multiple times in the
- 34:06Speaker 1: day or once you said it?
- 34:08Speaker 3: I probably forgot. I would do it right in the
- 34:10Speaker 3: beginning of the day. And then if they would have
- 34:13Speaker 3: it on the bench for you too, if you need it.
- 34:14Speaker 1: If you want to put more on, did you put uh?
- 34:17Speaker 1: Did you shower at all or only at the end
- 34:19Speaker 1: after the games?
- 34:20Speaker 3: I showered a lot.
- 34:21Speaker 1: So you when you come out of the shower, do
- 34:23Speaker 1: you reapply or you if I remember, you get time
- 34:27Speaker 1: and remember and the.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Next day you're like, oh God, you can feel it
- 34:30Speaker 3: on your face because it was here. You know this,
- 34:32Speaker 3: you can kind of be fine with you know, I would.
- 34:35Speaker 3: I was still kind of rub a.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Little bit in but the face, the nose, you know,
- 34:40Speaker 1: all over there.
- 34:41Speaker 3: I have the beard that blocked it. So but the
- 34:43Speaker 3: neck too, Like Dusty Baker would have the cloth that
- 34:47Speaker 3: came off the hat and he would block his neck.
- 34:48Speaker 3: It's pretty cool.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Well you didn't hear it from me, but sunscreen is
- 34:52Speaker 4: a is a pitcher's good friend, especially if you mixed
- 34:55Speaker 4: it with a little bit of rosin. So it's never
- 34:57Speaker 4: a big deal to have a couple extra sprays mixed in,
- 35:00Speaker 4: maybe even some in your back pocket. I got some
- 35:04Speaker 4: some skin stuff in my family history, so I was
- 35:06Speaker 4: long sleeves at all times from the jump and sun
- 35:09Speaker 4: screened up too. I don't I would say maybe some
- 35:12Speaker 4: guys are aware of it. There's always a sunscreen station
- 35:14Speaker 4: on your way out the door. Some take advantage of it,
- 35:16Speaker 4: some don't. But I was definitely a heavy sunscreener.
- 35:19Speaker 1: There you got, I.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Got a little crisco, a little bar and all of
- 35:22Speaker 3: I just like, all all good, all.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Good, extra extra sunscreen for the pictures. Yeah, well, now
- 35:32Speaker 1: they watched the sunscreen. You can't make your concoctions like
- 35:35Speaker 1: you used to.
- 35:36Speaker 2: The glory days.
- 35:37Speaker 4: I can say that now those are sometimes in a
- 35:41Speaker 4: rain delay, we're just in there concocting Doctor Pepper.
- 35:44Speaker 1: With cock car.
- 35:45Speaker 4: Put it in the Yeah, put it in the microwave,
- 35:47Speaker 4: and see how sticky we could get it.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Oh that's crazy. Yeah, it got to a point where
- 35:52Speaker 1: it was nuts. Krats always has the story where they
- 35:56Speaker 1: were like testing it out at the ballpark and seeing
- 35:58Speaker 1: how much, you know, how which the spin rates and
- 36:01Speaker 1: stuff like that would change.
- 36:02Speaker 3: You know.
- 36:03Speaker 1: So I think it was when he was with the Yanks.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I'll let him retell it next week. It's been a minute,
- 36:07Speaker 1: but you know, and he said, like you know, he
- 36:09Speaker 1: grab the ball and strike three, be like, oh, yeah,
- 36:18Speaker 1: I would.
- 36:19Speaker 4: I would employ guys like Utah to give me a
- 36:21Speaker 4: little bit Like Seeger Secret played with just agregious amount
- 36:24Speaker 4: of pine tire, and i'd sometimes maybe you know, flip
- 36:27Speaker 4: the ball over to Corey, get.
- 36:28Speaker 3: It right back. Yeah, there's a lot of old like
- 36:30Speaker 3: James Shields, like a lot of older guys Pelfrey, Mike Pelfrey,
- 36:33Speaker 3: Like there we got all.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Right, yeah right, give me a little help, yeah, a
- 36:40Speaker 1: little refill at the gas station. I like that.
