- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a lily pad production.
- 0:04Speaker 2: This is the team up play show podcast.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Previously in the city of bones.
- 0:36Speaker 2: The true America gang has slunk back into the old
- 0:38Speaker 2: city hall and is kept quiet after their defeat. And
- 0:43Speaker 2: then behind you, the wraith arrives. You see a woman
- 0:49Speaker 2: who is old, but somehow not old. I've seen heroes before.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Now I see him again. Cause more trouble, if you
- 0:58Speaker 2: ask me. We had something worked out, you know? They
- 1:01Speaker 2: stay out. They stay out of her way. And if
- 1:04Speaker 2: they don't, I get to pop their heads.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Her?
- 1:07Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Cordula. She's silent. And you find Mitchell Nichols, who's been
- 1:13Speaker 2: labeled the Silent Pope. There's a list in a locked
- 1:16Speaker 2: drawer in your office there, Nichols.
- 1:19Speaker 4: No.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Oh, looks like a lot of names. No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:23Speaker 2: That could get leaked real easy. No, not that list.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Not that. Jasmine Dukes. She says, through tears, May 1987.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Adam.
- 1:33Speaker 2: If you somehow survive and see this, I'm so sorry.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I've put a sedative in your tank for a while.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Sticky pans over to Adam in his tank, and he's
- 1:44Speaker 2: no longer a fetus, but he looks like a toddler.
- 1:48Speaker 2: As Jasmine walks away, he keeps recording. He stays on,
- 1:51Speaker 2: keeps showing you holographic footage at great speed, his camera
- 1:55Speaker 2: pointed directly at the tank in which Adam Dukes floats.
- 1:59Speaker 2: He wakes. He looks much stronger than any 10-year-old should.
- 2:03Speaker 2: He starts punching the glass once, twice, three times. Before
- 2:07Speaker 2: he spills out, he begins to walk around looking for anything.
- 2:11Speaker 2: He survives. The day before the election arrives, a sidewalk
- 2:17Speaker 2: sweeper comes upon a gruesome sight. Sophia Eldanta, Darius Jackson,
- 2:23Speaker 2: an unnamed Irish gangster, the Oyabun Hasagawa, and Cordula Soma
- 2:30Speaker 2: are found dead on the steps of City Hall. And
- 2:34Speaker 2: there is a message written in blood. Judgment satisfied. Ah.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Ah.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Fog lifts off the great plains, and murder has come
- 2:53Speaker 2: and gone, unnoticed, hidden in the night. There must be
- 2:58Speaker 2: someone who saw something, though, right? But also, they're just
- 3:03Speaker 2: crime lords. Does it really matter? Perhaps the city will
- 3:06Speaker 2: be better without them? Many in the city don't even
- 3:10Speaker 2: know their faces or their names, Cordula, of course, being
- 3:15Speaker 2: the exception. The questions that arise for you, our heroes,
- 3:20Speaker 2: are why and why now? To answer those, you'll need
- 3:27Speaker 2: to find out who. There's a mystery to be solved here.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Where are our heroes when they find out this news
- 3:37Speaker 2: in the morning before the vote is counted for the
- 3:43Speaker 2: new mayor? And how do you react? What do you do?
- 3:46Speaker 4: I think Quanta's at home with Jillian just like watching
- 3:50Speaker 4: the news and when that comes on like they just
- 3:53Speaker 4: make eye contact across the room and Jillian just nods
- 3:57Speaker 4: at Ronnie and Ronnie strikes out the window to head
- 4:01Speaker 4: to the nest.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Jason is in Paige's hospital room throwing a wad of
- 4:06Speaker 5: paper up and down lying on his back when all
- 4:10Speaker 5: of a sudden he feels the presence of a newspaper
- 4:13Speaker 5: enter the hospital.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Mobsters did. And flies out the window. That's cool. That's cool, dude. Hey, Ethan.
- 4:21Speaker 2: That's cool. That's cool. I like that a lot.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Jameer is smearing some garden vegetable cream cheese.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Hey, Ben.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Not very toasted bagel. Still soft, but warm.
- 4:35Speaker 4: All right.
- 4:37Speaker 3: And before he takes a bite, a whale begins to
- 4:41Speaker 3: echo down the chute.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Oh, not like the animal. No. No. Okay.
- 4:46Speaker 1: That would be cool.
- 4:48Speaker 2: A morning whale. A morning whale begins to echo.
- 4:51Speaker 3: It's too early.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm a morning whale.
- 4:56Speaker 2: It's too early for me. Wow.
- 4:59Speaker 6: Wow.
- 5:00Speaker 3: We're really finding homophones. And Jameer pokes his head out
- 5:09Speaker 3: of his parents pod in the shoot and the morning
- 5:14Speaker 3: Turns into knowledge, which turns into pain. He slips out
- 5:20Speaker 3: from his family's home to find answers.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Where do you go? Crime scene, crime scene, crime scene.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Yeah, let's meet up there.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I would converge at the crime scene. You all show
- 5:37Speaker 2: up at the crime scene. It has been taped off.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Detective Elena Kira is there. At this point, it's so fresh.
- 5:44Speaker 2: She's just trying to get everyone back. The bystanders of
- 5:49Speaker 2: the city have swarmed, trying to figure out what has happened.
- 5:54Speaker 2: There is a contingent of those that were excited to
- 6:00Speaker 2: or have already voted for Cordula, crying out many things.
- 6:05Speaker 2: There's a lot of blame being thrown around. The most
- 6:10Speaker 2: obvious blame... is the true america gang they are inside
- 6:17Speaker 2: the city hall they have locked it up they have
- 6:21Speaker 2: put chains and baseball bats on the door to keep
- 6:25Speaker 2: anyone from getting in and they remain holed up in
- 6:28Speaker 2: there awaiting their prince henry.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Hilland more like keep me in coach.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Keep me in, coach. I'm ready to slay. Hey, Tommy.
- 6:39Speaker 2: That's cool. Thanks, dude. That's cool.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Oh, now I'm imagining that they're just like having like
- 6:44Speaker 4: a drag competition in there.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Oh, man, I wish.
- 6:47Speaker 6: Keep me in, coach.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I'm ready to slay.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Full of American flag pants, but a dead drop.
- 6:53Speaker 3: It's spelled S-L-E-I-G-H and it's Hot Santa themed.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Pick up the humophone. I got jokes for you. Ring, ring.
- 7:07Speaker 6: Ring, ring.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It's on my finger.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Jameer, as Rigel now.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Begins summoning more and more flight stars that first gently
- 7:18Speaker 3: push back the crowd and then menacingly hover around him
- 7:25Speaker 3: and I look to the detective and I say, do
- 7:29Speaker 3: you need entry into City Hall, officer?
- 7:33Speaker 2: Elaine looks up at you. I'd be, we're going to
- 7:37Speaker 2: need it eventually. There's cameras. She points to the edges,
- 7:42Speaker 2: the corners of the building that do have cameras that
- 7:44Speaker 2: point towards the stairs to City Hall. They're right where
- 7:50Speaker 2: pillars meet the end of the stairwell. And she says,
- 7:54Speaker 2: we will need that eventually. I'm not trying to start
- 7:56Speaker 2: anything crazy with these guys yet as last time didn't
- 7:59Speaker 2: go so well.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I mean, I could probably take a look at that now.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Oh, yeah? Yeah. Okay.
- 8:06Speaker 4: I turn to electricity and head into the cameras.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:10Speaker 1: To see what I can find.
- 8:12Speaker 2: First roll a sneak check just to have you not
- 8:15Speaker 2: being seen by the True America gang. Add your power.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I'm going to do lightning whip because I'm traveling.
- 8:22Speaker 2: If lightning whip Is this the power you use to
- 8:25Speaker 2: become lightning and go into stuff?
- 8:26Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I branched to become.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Then, yes. Average check. I'm rolling a D8.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I'm rolling a D4. And a D10.
- 8:33Speaker 2: You got this. Ooh, 11. I rolled a five.
- 8:36Speaker 1: All right.
- 8:37Speaker 2: So you critically succeed zipping into the... There's a small,
- 8:44Speaker 2: very neglected at this moment, office, security office that normally
- 8:49Speaker 2: a security guard would sit there, you know, bored and eating...
- 8:53Speaker 2: Sunflower seeds. Oh, my gosh.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I cleaned up sunflower seeds in here in years.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Crunch.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Crunch. Yes, we'll let you go through all the tapes
- 9:02Speaker 2: in a second.
- 9:03Speaker 4: All right.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Phantom, Jameer, are you guys doing anything? The bodies remain.
- 9:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I want to check out the bodies. I'm wearing
- 9:11Speaker 5: my detective ass trench coat, and it's kind of crumpled today,
- 9:16Speaker 5: but a big floppy hat, and I'm just going to
- 9:18Speaker 5: glide over to the bodies. I want to investigate the handwriting.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Of the bodies. Ooh.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Are the stairs paper?
- 9:26Speaker 2: If we've written on the stairs, are the stairs paper?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Give us... So there are people surrounding cameras, everything. Give
- 9:34Speaker 2: us the shot here. What the paper phantom walking through
- 9:39Speaker 2: these dead bodies, what does it look like here in
- 9:41Speaker 2: this moment? Sure.
- 9:43Speaker 5: So certainly getting past the police tape and through the crowd,
- 9:47Speaker 5: fully just two-dimensional, just slide... right through and then reform
- 9:52Speaker 5: on the other side of the police barricade, walking, smoking, and.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Just begrudging, like a tire.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Old detective having to come back out of retirement, crouches down.
- 10:05Speaker 2: I'm going to maybe taste the blood. God damn.
- 10:11Speaker 5: And, and yeah, put my hand out to try and
- 10:16Speaker 5: get a sense of any paper on them.
- 10:18Speaker 2: The handwriting is, Any clues as to who it's pointing?
- 10:22Speaker 2: Roll an investigation check. I will let you add paper
- 10:26Speaker 2: cents here. This is a challenging check. I'm rolling a D10.
- 10:31Speaker 2: You got a D8 and a D6. That's an eight
- 10:34Speaker 2: for me. I rolled a seven. A long top one.
- 10:39Speaker 1: A gentleman's eight?
- 10:42Speaker 2: There's really only one thing if you're looking into the
- 10:45Speaker 2: handwriting that sticks out. And it's not too hard. You
- 10:49Speaker 2: feel like someone else would have noticed if you hadn't,
- 10:52Speaker 2: despite your power. At the end of the two-word phrase
- 10:57Speaker 2: that says, judgment satisfied, there are blood drips to the
- 11:04Speaker 2: fingers of one of the mobsters, Darius Johnson. As if
- 11:13Speaker 2: it was written by him. And then you look at
- 11:16Speaker 2: his fingers and they are drenched in blood. Interesting.
- 11:20Speaker 5: Any literary significance? Is this a reference to something? Roll
- 11:26Speaker 5: a knowledge check.
- 11:27Speaker 4: Sure.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Average check among a D8. Can I throw a paper
- 11:30Speaker 2: sense on there as well? Or no? Sure, just because
- 11:33Speaker 2: of your reading. Because I'm reading. It's 15. Because of reading.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Ooh.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Nothing special, just like some legal jargon. This is a
- 11:42Speaker 2: legal phrase. Interesting. All right. Jameer, what are you working on?
- 11:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:48Speaker 2: If anything.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Rigel is sad and mad. His jaw is clenched. His
- 11:58Speaker 3: fists are, too. Detective, how much longer.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Do these bodies need to lay out here for this display?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Not long, Rigel. We just roped it off, and EMTs
- 12:09Speaker 2: are coming in. Is it EMTs that take away dead bodies? Coroner? Coroner? Yeah,
- 12:15Speaker 2: I got to see them. It's your city, Charlie. It
- 12:20Speaker 2: could be whatever you want.
- 12:21Speaker 1: It's my city.
- 12:22Speaker 4: It could be 40 coroners in a 30 to 40
- 12:24Speaker 4: story tall building.
- 12:26Speaker 2: The bone men. She just says.
- 12:30Speaker 5: The bone men is good. Yeah, 40 bone men all
- 12:32Speaker 5: squeezed into one clown car. And one of them is bones.
- 12:37Speaker 5: She just says, we have people coming to take away
- 12:40Speaker 5: the bodies for the autopsy. They should be here in
- 12:43Speaker 5: any minute. I'm glad you guys got here sooner.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Detective. Yeah. Who? I want names.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Who could have done something like this? A hit like this?
- 12:57Speaker 3: These are some of the most protected people in this city.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, it's bad. The obvious answer is the gang
- 13:07Speaker 2: hidden up in the building behind you, but like you said,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I don't know if they have the means. The old
- 13:15Speaker 2: mayor's locked up, still... Behind bars, so is his assistant.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Something about this doesn't add up, doesn't feel right. It
- 13:24Speaker 2: does not. I agree. Who stands to gain something from
- 13:28Speaker 2: the disappearance of the mob? Elaine says, Henry. Henry does.
- 13:34Speaker 2: But not the whole mob, just Cordula specifically. All of
- 13:41Speaker 2: the other candidates win when some candidates die. At this moment.
- 13:49Speaker 4: I'm crunching through sunflower seed pods and eventually I'm just...
- 13:54Speaker 4: And create enough static to push them all into the
- 13:59Speaker 4: corners of the room away from me.
- 14:00Speaker 2: And you find the footage from last night.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Okay, you guys, hello?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Hello? Yeah, we're here.
- 14:08Speaker 6: Copy.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I found where the footage is. Let's see if anything's here.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Here's what you see. All of these crime lords and
- 14:14Speaker 2: the Irish mobster come... Walking into frame, almost like zombies. Shit.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Darius walks over to Cordula, stabs her once in the side.
- 14:29Speaker 2: She doesn't really react. He sticks his fingers in her
- 14:33Speaker 2: side and writes the words on the steps, and then
- 14:38Speaker 2: they all lay down in the exact positions they are
- 14:41Speaker 2: outside and slowly die.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I narrate that with a shaking voice to my boys.
- 14:51Speaker 2: And make a sense check as you watch this to
- 14:55Speaker 2: pick up something else.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I don't, um, I would love to be able to
- 15:00Speaker 1: use scan, but I don't think I can use it
- 15:02Speaker 1: through a TV.
- 15:02Speaker 2: I think you're right.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Because I can't see it through a mirror. I can't
- 15:06Speaker 4: see it through something recorded.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Difficult check at D12. Ooh, five. I rolled a short
- 15:12Speaker 2: top seven, which is a one.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Oh!
- 15:14Speaker 1: Wow.
- 15:16Speaker 4: I rolled a really squiggly one.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Nice. An S1. An S1 is five. At the very
- 15:23Speaker 2: end of the video, off screen, you do sense the
- 15:28Speaker 2: energy in the tape, but not the energy of what
- 15:32Speaker 2: it pictures, right? What it has recorded. But you are
- 15:37Speaker 2: familiar with energy movement and electrical patterns. There is a
- 15:41Speaker 2: flash of light. On the left hand side of the
- 15:44Speaker 2: screen that is ovular.
- 15:49Speaker 4: What are you?
- 15:51Speaker 2: What's what?
- 15:52Speaker 1: Hang on. Give me a minute.
- 15:53Speaker 4: I'm going to pull a blank tape from where like
- 15:56Speaker 4: the security would have to transfer it out if they
- 15:59Speaker 4: didn't like rewind and tape over it again. And just
- 16:04Speaker 4: put my hands on the computers for a second and
- 16:07Speaker 4: make a copy of it and then eject the original.
- 16:12Speaker 2: So I have two.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 16:14Speaker 4: And then carry those with me out through the electricity
- 16:19Speaker 4: back to the staging area with the authorities.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Elaine is wrapping up her conversation with you guys as
- 16:28Speaker 2: the ambulance arrives to take these dead bodies away. She says,
- 16:34Speaker 2: you're right, Rigel. The protection, especially of Cordula, right? The wraiths.
- 16:42Speaker 2: How did the Wraith let this happen? No one's ever
- 16:45Speaker 2: found the Wraith or knows anything about them or what
- 16:48Speaker 2: they are or if they're just a myth. But why
- 16:52Speaker 2: did all of a sudden they miss this one? Maybe
- 16:56Speaker 2: look into that.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Detective, I hand her one of the tapes.
- 17:02Speaker 2: This is the tape from last night?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it's disturbing.
- 17:07Speaker 2: All right.
- 17:08Speaker 4: They killed each other. Well, Darius stabbed Cordula and then
- 17:12Speaker 4: they all laid down and died.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Maybe I'm a political ignoramus here, but what happens to
- 17:20Speaker 2: all those votes that went to Cordula? Does she get
- 17:23Speaker 2: a vice mayoral candidate to replace her? What happens? I
- 17:28Speaker 2: don't know. You're also a political ignoramus. Well, I wouldn't
- 17:33Speaker 2: say that. That's what I said. All right. I think
- 17:37Speaker 2: that the city is... This is unprecedented. I don't know.
- 17:41Speaker 2: I don't know. There is an acting city council that
- 17:45Speaker 2: is more friendly to the people. They'll have a say
- 17:51Speaker 2: in it, I'm sure. I don't know.
- 17:53Speaker 5: Is there a congressional library documents that might have the
- 17:59Speaker 5: laws on the books? Something about this phrase Darius wrote.
- 18:03Speaker 5: It's tickling something. Could use the constitution of the city.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Well, since the burning of the Pendragon, there's the library
- 18:11Speaker 2: at New Babel Tech. It's fantastic. I mean, it's everything
- 18:16Speaker 2: we have, but it's big. You're saying it's better than
- 18:19Speaker 2: the Pendragon? I didn't say that. Does that sound what
- 18:21Speaker 2: you're implying? Why? What are you kidding? Do you have
- 18:23Speaker 2: a connection to Pendragon?
- 18:25Speaker 1: Oh, she's good.
- 18:27Speaker 2: It was just the best library. You've been there. It
- 18:30Speaker 2: was nice. How do you... You know what, Fanta? We're
- 18:33Speaker 2: not doing this. I.
- 18:36Speaker 1: kind of gather the four of us closer.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Based on what I saw, I think we're dealing with
- 18:42Speaker 4: somebody else kind of like the three of us.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Of course. Somebody cool. I don't know.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Do you think somebody cool did this, Phantom?
- 18:52Speaker 2: Maybe. If there's somebody like us.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I mean in the way that we can do things.
- 18:58Speaker 2: What happened to the old city council?
- 19:00Speaker 1: What did happen to them? Did we ever follow through
- 19:03Speaker 1: with those two?
- 19:03Speaker 4: No.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Oh, no, they've got to get their comeuppance. We didn't
- 19:06Speaker 2: have time before we... If you've got a reason to
- 19:09Speaker 2: check in with them, who knows, they might know something.
- 19:12Speaker 2: If they're still connected with Adrian or something, I don't know.
- 19:15Speaker 2: We've kept him pretty locked up, but... Could be. Time
- 19:19Speaker 2: is of the essence. And we have 24 hours, is
- 19:23Speaker 2: that right? Yes, the mayor is supposed to be announced
- 19:27Speaker 2: tomorrow evening.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Is that where you'd like us to start, Detective?
- 19:30Speaker 2: The council?
- 19:30Speaker 1: The former council?
- 19:32Speaker 2: I don't know. My two thoughts were council. You ask questions, right?
- 19:37Speaker 2: Like how? And I thought, like, like Rigel said, protection.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I thought about the race and then who thought the council,
- 19:48Speaker 2: maybe they're trying to get their boy back.
- 19:50Speaker 4: In.
- 19:51Speaker 2: But why? I don't know. Those were my thoughts. You
- 19:55Speaker 2: guys do what you do, and I'll do what I do.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I'll get you news about the autopsy in a few hours. Well,
- 20:03Speaker 2: so we've got three leads and three of us. We
- 20:08Speaker 2: could divide and conquer, but maybe we should check in
- 20:10Speaker 2: with these America bozos while we're here first, see if
- 20:14Speaker 2: they saw anything, noticed anything.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Yeah, why not?
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yes, let's.
- 20:19Speaker 3: And with that gradual turn and the flight stars that
- 20:23Speaker 3: have been orbiting around me, I'm going to launch, pounding
- 20:29Speaker 3: the front door of City Hall one at a time.
- 20:33Speaker 2: As you do that, one of the True America gang
- 20:37Speaker 2: members guys comes out of there's a balcony above the
- 20:40Speaker 2: front the broad front door held up by these roman
- 20:46Speaker 2: like pillars and he has an american flag in one
- 20:50Speaker 2: hand and a machete in the other hand and he
- 20:54Speaker 2: waves them both he says fuck off we didn't do
- 20:58Speaker 2: shit All right, let's go. Case closed. Should we ask?
- 21:02Speaker 2: Should we follow up with that?
- 21:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll join Rigel by the door and call up.
- 21:09Speaker 4: We just want to talk.
- 21:10Speaker 2: That's what they always say. They just want to talk
- 21:12Speaker 2: and then we're getting our ass dragged off to prisons.
- 21:16Speaker 4: Well, if you don't have anything to hide, then you
- 21:18Speaker 4: won't get your ass dragged off to prisons.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Oh, we got nothing to hide. It's super cool in here.
- 21:23Speaker 2: We're chilling.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Great.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Let us in. You guys want to come in? Please. Yes.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I smile.
- 21:31Speaker 3: We're either going to break our way in or you
- 21:35Speaker 3: let us in to talk.
- 21:37Speaker 2: That's where we're at right now, but you see.
- 21:40Speaker 4: What we can do.
- 21:40Speaker 1: My friend's on a short fuse today, so.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, if you don't cooperate, I'll delete the Declaration
- 21:46Speaker 2: of Independence. Oh, okay. Come on in, but I can't
- 21:53Speaker 2: promise you're going to like what you see. I thought
- 21:55Speaker 2: you said it was cool in there. We're chilling. It's cool.
- 21:59Speaker 4: So are you going to let us in or should
- 22:01Speaker 4: we open the door ourselves in our own way?
- 22:02Speaker 2: You guys come in through the top through the balcony
- 22:05Speaker 2: here and you look down into the main foyer area.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Is it a foyer slug?
- 22:15Speaker 2: No, I couldn't hear it either. It's like an atrium. Yeah,
- 22:19Speaker 2: the atrium.
- 22:20Speaker 1: We found another homophone.
- 22:23Speaker 2: On one side Down below, there is a normal-sized pool
- 22:30Speaker 2: in the backyard that you would have in your backyard.
- 22:35Speaker 2: It's filled with red, white, and blue jello, and there
- 22:38Speaker 2: are true American gang guys in there, like, worming about. What? Yeah.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Eating their way through jello and shitting it out as
- 22:48Speaker 3: they go.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Eating their way through, and then as they get close
- 22:51Speaker 2: to someone else, like, sometimes they'll hug, sometimes they'll kiss.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Sometimes they'll slap each other. It's very strange. All right.
- 23:00Speaker 2: I'll salute them.
- 23:01Speaker 1: As you were.
- 23:03Speaker 2: On the other side, there is a fenced-off pit. It
- 23:08Speaker 2: doesn't go low, but it's just like a built-in kind
- 23:10Speaker 2: of fenced-off circular area where there are true American guys
- 23:15Speaker 2: running around early in the morning taking shots of whiskey,
- 23:19Speaker 2: and they're trying to pants each other.
- 23:21Speaker 1: You're right. It's very cool in here.
- 23:24Speaker 2: And we're just hanging out.
- 23:25Speaker 1: It's so cool.
- 23:27Speaker 2: So the guy who gets pantsed has to take a shot. Uh-huh.
- 23:31Speaker 2: And then, yeah, that's the game. Why don't you talk
- 23:35Speaker 2: to us about last night? What did you see? What
- 23:38Speaker 2: did you hear? Timmy did like four hours in the
- 23:42Speaker 2: jello pool, which is crazy. No one's ever done four hours.
- 23:45Speaker 2: About the murder on the front steps. Nothing.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Nobody was looking outside?
- 23:53Speaker 2: No, we're holed up in here. We're waiting for Henry
- 23:55Speaker 2: to get here. Hang on. Any of you guys like
- 23:58Speaker 2: sunflower seeds? We all do. It's what they used to
- 24:02Speaker 2: eat during baseball matches.
- 24:04Speaker 1: There were an awful lot of sunflower seeds in the
- 24:07Speaker 1: security room.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Well, that's where we found all the stash. No one
- 24:11Speaker 2: was in there hanging out. No. Sometimes Chad was sitting
- 24:15Speaker 2: in there.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Where's Chad?
- 24:17Speaker 2: Chad. Give us Chad. Give us Chad.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Okay.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Chad! Chad! Chad is one of the guys taking shots
- 24:23Speaker 2: in the pants a bit. And Chad comes up. Hey, guys.
- 24:28Speaker 2: What's up?
- 24:29Speaker 3: Chad, there's been a brutal murder outside of the city
- 24:34Speaker 3: hall that you're currently occupying.
- 24:36Speaker 2: You are the prime suspect. Oh, dang. Dang it. We
- 24:42Speaker 2: need answers right now. Okay.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Do you know or have seen anything about what's going on?
- 24:51Speaker 2: Last night, I was watching the tapes, and I was
- 24:58Speaker 2: doing cocaine. Crack cocaine?
- 25:02Speaker 4: No. Oh.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Wow. How refreshing.
- 25:05Speaker 2: I wouldn't do crack cocaine. That's all the rage.
- 25:08Speaker 1: What a surprise.
- 25:09Speaker 2: No, regular cocaine.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Wow, you're your own kind of person.
- 25:13Speaker 2: I'm freaking Chad. Cocaine Chad. And I was watching it
- 25:20Speaker 2: and was like, What's going on? This can't be real.
- 25:25Speaker 2: But I didn't do anything.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Did you see anything? Did you look outside after you
- 25:30Speaker 1: saw that?
- 25:32Speaker 2: Nope. Dang it. I wish I had. Then I could
- 25:36Speaker 2: help you nice folks. You know, Henry's coming to save us. Soon.
- 25:41Speaker 1: From what?
- 25:41Speaker 2: I'll get the nicest cocaine in all of America.
- 25:44Speaker 3: What do you all think's going to happen if Henry
- 25:47Speaker 3: Hillen loses? Do you think the people of the city,
- 25:51Speaker 3: do you think the police, do you think us, that
- 25:54Speaker 3: we're just going to let you guys keep doing this?
- 25:59Speaker 2: He looks at the other guy who's been talking to you.
- 26:01Speaker 2: He's our leader. I don't know. Yeah, we're going to
- 26:05Speaker 2: hang out. We're going to be Henry's army.
- 26:10Speaker 1: He's disavowed all of you.
- 26:13Speaker 2: What? Publicly. Dang it. Yeah, dang it. This does not
- 26:20Speaker 2: end well for you gentlemen.
- 26:22Speaker 4: I'm going to step away from this and open my
- 26:26Speaker 4: senses to the whole building and looking through everyone's brains
- 26:33Speaker 4: to see if there's anyone who's like nervous or anxious or.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Like ruminating on something.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Like someone who's like fired up in a way that
- 26:47Speaker 4: all the drunk and jello-sexed-up guys, aren't?
- 26:50Speaker 2: Yeah, roll an investigation check with your sense. This is
- 26:54Speaker 2: a difficult check. I'm rolling a d12.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Two d6s.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I rolled a two.
- 26:59Speaker 1: I rolled a three.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Oof. As you reach out with this success, it's a
- 27:03Speaker 2: small success, but it is a success, you gather that
- 27:06Speaker 2: in this building are a bunch of oafs and drunkards
- 27:12Speaker 2: that are not... that are a big adult... Violent sleepover.
- 27:19Speaker 1: This isn't worth our time, guys. We got 24 hours.
- 27:22Speaker 3: True America gang, I highly recommend you turn yourselves in.
- 27:27Speaker 3: After 24 hours, once this election's settled, your party's over.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Huh, interesting.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Rigel hops on a flight star. I'm going to the shoot, guys.
- 27:36Speaker 3: I need to try to find the Wraith. That leaves
- 27:39Speaker 3: the council. And I do want to see what I
- 27:43Speaker 3: can find out about the laws.
- 27:45Speaker 4: If.
- 27:47Speaker 5: If Cordula was set to win and someone knew about it,
- 27:49Speaker 5: then what happens?
- 27:51Speaker 2: Where does the power go? I need to look at
- 27:53Speaker 2: the books.
- 27:55Speaker 1: All right.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Reading for you. Wraith for you. All those guys for me.
- 27:59Speaker 4: I can be pretty persuasive.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Check in with the two that you guys threatened that
- 28:07Speaker 2: voted against you. Yeah. Take it one at a time
- 28:10Speaker 2: and call us if you need. Please.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Yeah, y'all too if you run into anything. Oh, y'all,
- 28:16Speaker 4: listen to me. Listen to me sounding so American after
- 28:18Speaker 4: being here for five minutes.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Let's get out of here. Kaboom. I take a pie
- 28:24Speaker 2: with me.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Nice.
- 28:26Speaker 2: You got it. It's full of cocaine.
- 28:32Speaker 1: We eat cocaine in pies.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Classic cocaine pie. It's a one-to-one baking powder cocaine replacement. Jameer,
- 28:42Speaker 3: what are you doing to get a hold of the Wraith?
- 28:46Speaker 3: I think Raja's going to go back to where we
- 28:49Speaker 3: had our meet last. Well, our radio meet initially. And
- 28:54Speaker 3: I'm just going to start shooting out stars, just trying
- 28:59Speaker 3: to see if that draws her attention. We kept the
- 29:03Speaker 3: radio from that encounter, right?
- 29:06Speaker 2: Sure.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember that.
- 29:09Speaker 2: I don't remember that, but I don't know why we wouldn't.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I don't remember anyone saying that, but it is a
- 29:14Speaker 2: thing that Jameer especially would do as like a memento. Yeah.
- 29:19Speaker 5: As a Wraith shrine in the closet with a walkie-talkie
- 29:22Speaker 5: at its center and cool drawings of Susan Sarandon.
- 29:25Speaker 2: It's also a thing Wraith would have just like blown
- 29:27Speaker 2: up and shot out of your hand as you flew away.
- 29:31Speaker 2: So what happened?
- 29:34Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Is that like a ready check or something? Yes. Roll
- 29:38Speaker 2: a ready check, Jameer, to see if you kept that thing.
- 29:42Speaker 1: A walkie-talkie check.
- 29:43Speaker 2: It is a challenging check. I'm rolling a D10. Okay.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I got a D8 for ready, everybody. I rolled a
- 29:50Speaker 2: two again. Ooh. I rolled a six. Yes.
- 29:53Speaker 4: Nice.
- 29:54Speaker 2: We win these. You brought it with you Yeah I
- 30:01Speaker 2: swing by Grab the radio Shoot up some stars Wraith
- 30:08Speaker 2: Our shoot Our leader She's been killed Can you talk
- 30:14Speaker 2: Over Roll a coax check Jameer Roll it high The
- 30:21Speaker 2: coax high You can add your flight stars to this
- 30:24Speaker 2: As kind of an annoyance Nice. That's my flight stars. Crack, coax, cane.
- 30:32Speaker 2: It's a challenging check. I'm rolling a d10. I rolled
- 30:36Speaker 2: a 2 again.
- 30:37Speaker 3: I got an 8 and a 1 to make a 9.
- 30:41Speaker 3: A fat-headed 1. Fat-headed 1.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Jameer, you sling out stars in all directions here, just
- 30:51Speaker 2: trying to, you shoot them right at the the disk
- 30:55Speaker 2: that is the teleporting disk of the Wraith, you shout
- 30:58Speaker 2: into them, walkie-talkie, radio, whatever, trying to get her attention. Wraith. Eventually,
- 31:04Speaker 2: she does pop up on her teleportation platform and gestures
- 31:11Speaker 2: to you to come on up. I make the.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Stars fall, and I climb up.
- 31:17Speaker 2: As you get up there, she puts a finger over
- 31:19Speaker 2: her lips as if to say, not here. I'm not.
- 31:24Speaker 2: She gestures you towards the platform, the small disc on
- 31:29Speaker 2: which she teleports, gesturing for you to step on it.
- 31:33Speaker 2: I step. As you get your second foot on there, Jameer,
- 31:37Speaker 2: energy runs through your body. You disappear from the space.
- 31:41Speaker 2: You pop up in a new space, which we'll get
- 31:45Speaker 2: to in a bit. Maybe it's prestige style and Rigel
- 31:48Speaker 2: is dead and this is just a clone of Rigel
- 31:50Speaker 2: that's been teleported.
- 31:52Speaker 4: I was imagining like you have the paper realm. It's
- 31:55Speaker 4: a gun realm where the Wraith is a gun.
- 31:58Speaker 2: There you go. The gun dimension.
- 32:01Speaker 1: And now Rigel is also a gun.
- 32:02Speaker 2: We'll have to see in a few minutes.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Rifle and Rigel are close.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Rifle and Rigel are close. Wraithful. Wraithful and Rigel. Jason,
- 32:15Speaker 2: what are you doing now?
- 32:17Speaker 5: Yeah, bring me to the fucking archives, the old files,
- 32:21Speaker 5: the physical shit in the library underneath. Is this in
- 32:25Speaker 5: the station or where is this?
- 32:26Speaker 2: Is that the university you said? Yeah, there's New Babel
- 32:29Speaker 2: Tech University. The station had its own university that is
- 32:34Speaker 2: not this university. This is New Babel Tech where people
- 32:38Speaker 2: were working on all the projects that got the space
- 32:41Speaker 2: barges into the sky.
- 32:42Speaker 1: That's where we fought Moreau, right? The top of that?
- 32:45Speaker 2: Close. On campus, but not that same building.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 5: I want to head down into whatever, you know, you
- 32:52Speaker 5: know that place where Gandalf goes to read about the ring?
- 32:55Speaker 2: Yeah. That's what I want to do. No, I got you.
- 32:57Speaker 5: Yeah, but congressional and law, like the charter for New Babel,
- 33:02Speaker 5: what's the political, what happens now and what laws need
- 33:07Speaker 5: to be dusted off? There's so much. So, as you
- 33:12Speaker 5: go into this hall, you go, just go in as
- 33:16Speaker 5: the phantom.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Uh, this university is still operational. Um, so the, the,
- 33:21Speaker 2: the desk clerics at the library, your old job, uh,
- 33:25Speaker 2: look surprised as a phantom, uh, moves past them. The
- 33:31Speaker 2: Pendragon library was more for, I would say probably more
- 33:37Speaker 2: focused on the humanities. Sure. They, they had everything, but,
- 33:41Speaker 2: probably more focused on certainly more fiction, more history, uh,
- 33:46Speaker 2: those kinds of things. Whereas this is generally speaking, a
- 33:52Speaker 2: more scientific library, a more data focused. What can we
- 33:58Speaker 2: have about the city? A hall of record. Yeah. Hall
- 34:01Speaker 2: of records, clippings, et cetera. There is, you've never been here.
- 34:06Speaker 2: There is a ton. The phantom could gain here. It's
- 34:09Speaker 2: scary for me.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Oh yes make him tremble.
- 34:15Speaker 2: So where do you go and what do you do
- 34:18Speaker 2: like as you enter here you the information in here
- 34:23Speaker 2: that could connect potentially with the happenings of the city
- 34:27Speaker 2: in general not just what you're looking for but more
- 34:30Speaker 2: start overwhelming you so where do you go what do
- 34:33Speaker 2: you do do you set up a meditative moment like
- 34:36Speaker 2: what is the phantom doing.
- 34:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I think first I'll slide, I'll print out a
- 34:43Speaker 5: library card that just says paper phantom student at university,
- 34:47Speaker 5: slide it across the desk, give them like a big,
- 34:51Speaker 5: I don't have eyes on my mask, but like they
- 34:52Speaker 5: can see the shape of my face is making a wink.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Like, yeah, folds where my eyebrow and my cheek meet.
- 34:59Speaker 5: And then assuming they don't stop me, I'm just going to, yeah,
- 35:02Speaker 5: like slip as a piece of paper down the, through
- 35:06Speaker 5: the stairs and into the archive room. But I think
- 35:08Speaker 5: the specific things I want to try and parse, cause I,
- 35:12Speaker 5: I agree that it's probably a lot. So I, I
- 35:14Speaker 5: am going to try and meditate here. I do want
- 35:16Speaker 5: to use the retooled swirling tides to swap the power
- 35:21Speaker 5: die of paper sense to be a D 10 for this.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Okay.
- 35:26Speaker 5: So I'll spend an hour doing that as I'm like,
- 35:29Speaker 5: just put, putting a bunch of binders and books and
- 35:33Speaker 5: microfiche and stuff into cart's I'll step out of the
- 35:37Speaker 5: paper cloak, so like the trench coat is behind me,
- 35:41Speaker 5: standing up kind of Doctor Strange cloak style.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Sure. And down here in the dark, Jason puts on
- 35:46Speaker 2: his glasses, gets to researching. We'll do that role in
- 35:51Speaker 2: a minute. Quanta, you check in with Mitchell Nichols first
- 35:55Speaker 2: or George Olsen first?
- 35:58Speaker 1: Mitchell is less of a buffoon. Then Olsen.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Correct.
- 36:03Speaker 1: So Mitchell first.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Canonically.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Canonically, he's evil, but he's less of an idiot, it seems.
- 36:11Speaker 1: So looking for him first.
- 36:14Speaker 2: You head to the church. Yes.
- 36:15Speaker 4: I strike like a lightning down on the church spire.
- 36:21Speaker 4: Hang there for a second and scan the building for him.
- 36:24Speaker 2: He kneels praying in the main sanctuary.
- 36:30Speaker 1: What are you doing, praying for a harder dick, you idiot?
- 36:34Speaker 2: If you remember, the threat that the phantom threatened him
- 36:39Speaker 2: with was a list. Yes. And we don't know exactly
- 36:42Speaker 2: what was on that list, but I'll say that the
- 36:44Speaker 2: phantom has given you that.
- 36:46Speaker 5: Yes.
- 36:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I was going to ask for a similar ready
- 36:48Speaker 4: check with the walkie-talkie to see if you had printed
- 36:52Speaker 4: out a copy or something.
- 36:54Speaker 2: He printed it out in the moment.
- 36:55Speaker 4: Oh, great. Yeah.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you can have it.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I will strike down in front of him. Just, like,
- 37:00Speaker 1: on the altar.
- 37:05Speaker 2: You see him there. He opens his eyes, looks up
- 37:08Speaker 2: at you. Hmm.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Not surprised?
- 37:12Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Heroes... have the fault of being people of their words.
- 37:19Speaker 2: I figured you'd come back.
- 37:22Speaker 4: Yes.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I'm here about two things. I.
- 37:26Speaker 4: My scarf unfurls and I pull the list out with
- 37:29Speaker 4: two fingers, hold it up. You remember this? Put it
- 37:33Speaker 4: back in the scarf and it rolls back up. And also,
- 37:36Speaker 4: what do you know about the murders of the mob leaders?
- 37:41Speaker 2: He stands up. He turns around to look at a painting.
- 37:49Speaker 2: A huge print of a Rembrandt painting called The Ascension
- 37:54Speaker 2: of Christ. It portrays Christ's ascension after he rose from
- 38:01Speaker 2: the dead back into heaven. And Mitchell Nichols, I'll answer
- 38:05Speaker 2: your questions to the extent that I can give you answers.
- 38:09Speaker 1: I'll know if you're being thorough or if you're lying.
- 38:12Speaker 2: But do you have any idea why he had to ascend?
- 38:17Speaker 4: Sorry, my expertise is with another religion.
- 38:20Speaker 2: It's always bothered me. Why not stay? You've won your battle.
- 38:24Speaker 2: You've been through your dark night. You've resurrected from the
- 38:28Speaker 2: grave and the people are obsessed with you. Theologians say
- 38:34Speaker 2: he perfected our humanity through his perfect life and now
- 38:39Speaker 2: must take that humanity to sit next to the Father
- 38:43Speaker 2: so that through the Holy Spirit we can have.
- 38:48Speaker 2: We can have relationship with him. It seems a bit
- 38:51Speaker 2: of a stretch to me.
- 38:52Speaker 4: I sure hope this is going somewhere useful to me.
- 38:56Speaker 2: He leaves us here on this squalid earth, thinking and
- 39:03Speaker 2: dreaming about a different world. And here I am, having
- 39:10Speaker 2: been a faithful servant for so long.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Is that what you think you are?
- 39:16Speaker 2: And the power given to humans goes to you. And
- 39:21Speaker 2: that star man in the paper won.
- 39:25Speaker 4: Well, my religion teaches that I'm part of God, so...
- 39:29Speaker 4: it makes sense to me.
- 39:31Speaker 2: So what do you plan to do with this list,
- 39:33Speaker 2: now that I've voted against you?
- 39:35Speaker 4: Publish it, similar to what happened prior to the election,
- 39:39Speaker 4: with all the other information about you and your friends.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Have you looked at that list? Do you know what
- 39:43Speaker 2: it is?
- 39:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally do.
- 39:48Speaker 2: I don't have powers, but I am wise. I don't
- 39:52Speaker 2: think you do. Do you think it will be helpful
- 39:57Speaker 2: to the people on that list if you were to
- 40:01Speaker 2: reveal it? That is the list of everyone that I
- 40:07Speaker 2: have ever found, fed, given a place to stay, and
- 40:15Speaker 2: then given them work.
- 40:17Speaker 1: The people you've trafficked.
- 40:19Speaker 2: I keep the list. To pray for them by name. Oh, God.
- 40:26Speaker 2: My predecessor said if we did so, we would be forgiven.
- 40:29Speaker 1: That's disgusting.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Well, I'm just telling you what it is. I'll pause
- 40:48Speaker 2: this conversation and go back to Jameer. Jameer. Yes? The
- 40:53Speaker 2: portal takes you to the top of the space barge. Whoa. Tied.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Right where the glass of the bridge's great viewing port
- 41:05Speaker 2: meets the metal hull. And behind you, there's a building.
- 41:09Speaker 2: It was meant to be living quarters of exterior workers
- 41:14Speaker 2: so that they didn't have to go in and out
- 41:16Speaker 2: of the ship the whole time. And it's not small.
- 41:19Speaker 2: There were a lot of workers that worked on the
- 41:21Speaker 2: outside of the ship. The Wraith shows up behind you,
- 41:26Speaker 2: takes you in. The ceiling is only six feet tall.
- 41:30Speaker 2: It has a triangular shape to match the shape of
- 41:32Speaker 2: the entire barge so that it could blend in as
- 41:36Speaker 2: a visual piece as well. You see discolored old spacesuits
- 41:41Speaker 2: on either side of you as you enter into the room.
- 41:46Speaker 2: The very practical aesthetic of the space of this house
- 41:50Speaker 2: for workers clashes with the wraith's twist on it all.
- 41:54Speaker 2: There is a section with maybe three dozen teleport plates.
- 41:58Speaker 2: But other than that, the only word for the rest
- 42:01Speaker 2: of the space is quaint. It's like almost cottagecore in here.
- 42:08Speaker 2: There are planks of distressed wood nailed on the wall.
- 42:11Speaker 2: There are are hanging dead flowers. There are sections of
- 42:15Speaker 2: the wall painted beautifully with landscape images of fields and trees.
- 42:20Speaker 2: And then there's a wall of guns. Quaint. But even
- 42:24Speaker 2: though it's like a violent image, every gun is painted beautifully,
- 42:30Speaker 2: decorated intricately with dark navy base color and then carved
- 42:36Speaker 2: floral and forestry iconography. She grabs a bottle of something,
- 42:43Speaker 2: pours the liquid into a cup, hits it real quick,
- 42:49Speaker 2: pours another one, and then pours some in a mug
- 42:53Speaker 2: for you and hands it to you and she sits
- 42:56Speaker 2: down in an old chair.
- 42:59Speaker 3: To be polite, Rigel takes a sip, not a big one.
- 43:05Speaker 3: He wants to pace himself and he's not much of
- 43:07Speaker 3: a drinker. And then he Sits down, but still back straight.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Not settling in. Trying to not sit on his cape
- 43:20Speaker 3: too much. Thank you for.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Bringing me here. Yeah, and what do you want to know?
- 43:32Speaker 2: Who's the race? How I got here? How I killed
- 43:36Speaker 2: those crime bosses? How I failed to do my one
- 43:41Speaker 2: frickin' job? You? No. She's clearly drunk.
- 43:50Speaker 3: What?
- 43:52Speaker 2: How did... How did they get to Cordula? How did
- 43:58Speaker 2: they take her? You think... You think I know... What
- 44:04Speaker 2: do they call you? Star? What should I call you?
- 44:09Speaker 2: Call me Rigel. Rigel. I am respectfully and humbly the
- 44:19Speaker 2: most trained and perhaps the most dangerous person in this city.
- 44:26Speaker 2: I don't know what's going on out there anymore, but
- 44:30Speaker 2: I have been through it all. This job If this
- 44:38Speaker 2: job was given to me in my peak, I would
- 44:43Speaker 2: have treated it like an easy Friday. Protecting one person.
- 44:50Speaker 2: I played with this city, Rigel, for decades now. I
- 44:57Speaker 2: had them in my palm. Maybe I got comfortable. And
- 45:06Speaker 2: now the love of my life is dead. Cordula? Yeah. Yeah, Cordula.
- 45:15Speaker 2: How did you two meet? I used to work for
- 45:18Speaker 2: her dad. Corrado? Yes. He was cruel. He ran the
- 45:24Speaker 2: shoot a little differently. Ran his gang very differently. Cordula
- 45:33Speaker 2: and I met and started It was stupid. It was stupid, Roger.
- 45:42Speaker 2: We fell. We fell in love. And then the word
- 45:46Speaker 2: came down the pike from my boss to take her out.
- 45:54Speaker 2: She was like she is, like she was. She's charismatic.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Could draw people to her. And she was preaching all
- 46:06Speaker 2: the stuff that she was preaching just a few days ago,
- 46:11Speaker 2: what the shoot could be for the city. And she
- 46:16Speaker 2: was drawing too much of a crowd and winning over
- 46:18Speaker 2: too many of her daddy's old friends. So he asked
- 46:25Speaker 2: me to kill her. But you didn't. I put a
- 46:30Speaker 2: bullet in between Corrado's eyes. I killed him. And then
- 46:38Speaker 2: you disappeared? yeah swore never to see her again but
- 46:48Speaker 2: protect her forever never to see her again why she
- 46:58Speaker 2: loved her pa even though she couldn't know she couldn't
- 47:04Speaker 2: know she couldn't know what I did she wouldn't have
- 47:09Speaker 2: loved me anymore But now she's dead, so it doesn't matter.
- 47:14Speaker 2: I've failed. The wraith is no more. What do you want?
- 47:21Speaker 2: You trying to figure out whodunit?
- 47:23Speaker 1: Of course.
- 47:27Speaker 3: For justice. The scales have to be rebalanced. These murderers
- 47:34Speaker 3: have to pay for what they've done. What they've ruined.
- 47:38Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 47:40Speaker 2: You want to play detective for justice. I want to die.
- 47:46Speaker 2: But God won't let me. What do you mean? Too
- 47:53Speaker 2: scared to put a bullet in my own head. And
- 47:56Speaker 2: nobody else can hit me. God damn it. Should I...
- 48:04Speaker 2: Do you still want me to call you Wraith? No.
- 48:08Speaker 4: No.
- 48:10Speaker 2: I'm a turncoat. Just call me turncoat. No. That's not
- 48:19Speaker 2: your name. That's all I've ever been good at. We'll
- 48:35Speaker 2: pause this conversation here. And go back to Jason in
- 48:40Speaker 2: the library. The exciting conclusion of rifling through documents. File sorted.
- 48:46Speaker 5: I do love those movies where they're just like, just
- 48:51Speaker 5: competently looking through documents to find the killer.
- 48:53Speaker 2: I love that shit.
- 48:55Speaker 5: It's exciting. Put the most exciting and energetic music under
- 48:59Speaker 5: this part.
- 49:01Speaker 2: I refuse. Okay, Jason, here's what I'm going to do. I,
- 49:06Speaker 2: you could roll. A Titanic check here, a godly check here,
- 49:10Speaker 2: or an epic check here?
- 49:11Speaker 1: Ooh.
- 49:12Speaker 2: Titanic check will get you the most, obviously, and so
- 49:17Speaker 2: on and so forth. It's up to you.
- 49:21Speaker 5: Well, seeing as I don't have that much energy left
- 49:24Speaker 5: after our latest shenanigans, would it be an epic check?
- 49:29Speaker 5: Is that the lowest of the high range powers or godly?
- 49:34Speaker 2: Epic check is a d20 and it costs no energy.
- 49:38Speaker 2: I'll go one above that. I can spend one energy.
- 49:42Speaker 2: A godly check, one energy. I'm rolling a d20 and
- 49:45Speaker 2: a d4. You have a minimum of seven to beat. Okay.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Works for me. Let's go. Just because of the nature
- 49:53Speaker 2: of your powers, you will get some stuff here. Sure.
- 49:56Speaker 2: No matter what the roll is, unless you fail miserably.
- 49:59Speaker 2: But based on your success here, there's a lot you
- 50:02Speaker 2: could gain. Got it. I'm rolling. I'll tell you what
- 50:05Speaker 2: I roll first. For fun. For fun. I rolled an
- 50:10Speaker 2: 11 on my D20 and a one on my D4.
- 50:12Speaker 4: Three short top ones.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Three short top ones.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Wow.
- 50:16Speaker 2: So 12. Jesus Christ. Yeah.
- 50:21Speaker 4: 12.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Come on, Jason.
- 50:22Speaker 1: You were made for this.
- 50:23Speaker 2: Sweet. And am I doing knowledge or investigate here as
- 50:26Speaker 2: my skill? I will let you pick either one. Okay.
- 50:30Speaker 2: What'd you pick? Knowledge. I don't get to add any bonuses, right?
- 50:34Speaker 4: No.
- 50:35Speaker 2: I also got a 12. Wow. So I tie a cry.
- 50:40Speaker 2: You tie a cry, but there's a lot you're going
- 50:43Speaker 2: to get here still, but not everything.
- 50:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:46Speaker 2: So, so close. That's okay. You do find in some
- 50:52Speaker 2: weird doc, like not weird. You find in the city
- 50:56Speaker 2: charter kind of an offshoot amendment. That's like, if one
- 51:01Speaker 2: of the candidates is, of a mayoral election, choose not to,
- 51:05Speaker 2: or like is not able to show up on the
- 51:09Speaker 2: day of whatever, whatever. Um, and they, uh, fail to
- 51:14Speaker 2: produce a replacement. The decision on whether to hold another
- 51:21Speaker 2: election or to move forward with a remaining candidate is
- 51:26Speaker 2: up to the city council, the acting city council. So
- 51:30Speaker 2: you find that. Mm-hmm.
- 51:32Speaker 1: He's thinking, he's thinking about what else you get on
- 51:34Speaker 1: a tie. You cry.
- 51:35Speaker 2: What else do you get on a tie? You cry.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Those wheels are turned.
- 51:39Speaker 5: I mean, if there's any specific that I'm looking for here,
- 51:42Speaker 5: it was, it was that piece of information. Like, you know, what,
- 51:45Speaker 5: what happens in the, in this case for the election? Um,
- 51:50Speaker 5: I guess in that document, does it outline the idea?
- 51:53Speaker 5: Like if, if the person who, and that's, that's sort
- 51:56Speaker 5: of saying if Cordula had one, Then the city council
- 51:59Speaker 5: just gets to decide if they.
- 52:01Speaker 2: Can scrap the election. That's like everything that happens, right?
- 52:03Speaker 2: So there is a threshold for percentage. So to make
- 52:11Speaker 2: it easy in our situation, if Cordula had won by
- 52:13Speaker 2: a significant amount, then they would host a new election.
- 52:19Speaker 2: If she were to win by a much smaller percentage,
- 52:23Speaker 2: and it still seems like the city put forward for
- 52:27Speaker 2: the other candidate, or a different candidate, I should say,
- 52:31Speaker 2: then they can make that choice. I see. Okay.
- 52:34Speaker 5: And then the other thing I was looking for is
- 52:37Speaker 5: that term, justice... Judgment satisfied. Judgment satisfied. Does that appear
- 52:44Speaker 5: in anything that I was able to look at or no?
- 52:46Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 52:48Speaker 3: Okay.
- 52:49Speaker 2: But here's the one other thing I'll give you. Give
- 52:52Speaker 2: you one thing. Quanta. You... Pull the list back out.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Unfurl it, looking at it, understanding what this man has
- 53:11Speaker 2: just told you. A gross list filled with abused and
- 53:18Speaker 2: used people that he prays for. Your eyes go to
- 53:24Speaker 2: the top name on the list. Jason, in your perusal
- 53:35Speaker 2: of this entire space, there's so much that's hard to
- 53:38Speaker 2: narrow in, hard to find the stick in the forest.
- 53:44Speaker 2: And yet, a name pops out to you, a name
- 53:46Speaker 2: you've heard before. The name you both find in this
- 53:51Speaker 2: moment is Adam Dukes.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Adam?
- 53:57Speaker 5: Adam.
- 53:58Speaker 2: Jason, you find it in the context... of documentation to
- 54:03Speaker 2: legally change one's name after adoption to Adam Ellington, who
- 54:15Speaker 2: is Manny's father. Oh, fuck. And that's where we'll end
- 54:22Speaker 2: this episode of the Team Up Play Show podcast. We dogs.
- 54:28Speaker 4: Oh.
- 54:29Speaker 1: No, we're mourning whales.
