January 9 - The Treasure Worth Seeking · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in scripture and relevant for today, January 9th.
• 0:11
True riches. We all chase things we believe
• 0:13
are valuable. Maybe it's money, success,
• 0:16
grades, recognition, or the feeling of being admired and
• 0:19
noticed. It can feel like if we just get
• 0:21
one more thing, one more achievement, one more upgrade,
• 0:24
one more win, we'll finally feel secure.
• 0:28
But deep down, most of us have discovered that those feelings
• 0:31
don't last. The excitement fades, the
• 0:33
pressure returns, and we're left wanting more.
• 0:36
That's because we were never meant to build our lives on
• 0:39
temporary treasure. Proverbs chapter 3, verses 19 to
• 0:43
20 reminds us who God is and how he works.
• 0:46
It says the Lord by wisdom founded the earth by
• 0:49
understanding. He established the heavens by
• 0:51
his knowledge. The deeps broke open, and the
• 0:53
clouds drop down the dew. Everything we see, every system,
• 0:58
every rhythm, every detail of creation was built by God's
• 1:01
wisdom. That means wisdom isn't just
• 1:04
  helpful advice, it's foundational.
• 1:06
When you pursue God's wisdom, you're aligning your life with
• 1:09
the very principles that hold the world together.
• 1:12
Jesus takes this even deeper in Matthew chapter 6.
• 1:15
He says, do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
• 1:19
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.
• 1:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
• 1:24
Jesus isn't saying that material things are evil.
• 1:27
He's saying they're unstable. Earthly treasures can be lost,
• 1:31
broken, stolen, or outdated. But heavenly treasure, things
• 1:35
like obedience, faithfulness, generosity, integrity, and love
• 1:39
can never be taken away. What you value most will quietly
• 1:42
shape your heart, your habits, and your direction.
• 1:45
True riches aren't measured by what you own, but by who you're
• 1:48
becoming. When you choose honesty over
• 1:50
shortcuts, kindness over clout, and obedience over popularity,
• 1:54
you're storing up treasure that lasts.
• 1:56
When you invest time in God's Word, listen for His voice, and
• 1:59
walk in His wisdom, you're building a life that's rooted,
• 2:02
steady, and secure. The world will always push you
• 2:05
to chase what looks impressive, but God invites you to pursue
• 2:09
what's eternal. And when you do, you discover
• 2:12
that His wisdom brings peace, clarity, and purpose that
• 2:14
nothing else can offer. Let's pray.
• 2:17
Heavenly Father, thank you for showing me that true riches are
• 2:20
found in You. Help me not to be distracted by
• 2:23
things that fade, but to treasure what lasts forever.
• 2:27
Teach me to seek Your wisdom in every decision and to set my
• 2:30
heart on what matters most to You.
• 2:32
Shape my desires, guide my choices, and help me live for
• 2:35
eternal treasure in Jesus name, Amen.
• 2:39

• 3:58
Bible reading plan. Proverbs chapter 3 verses 13 to
• 4:02
20 World English Bible. Happy is the man who finds
• 4:07
wisdom, the man who gets understanding.
• 4:09
For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her
• 4:12
return is better than fine gold. She is more precious than
• 4:16
rubies. None of the things you can
• 4:18
desire are to be compared to her.
• 4:20
Length of days is in her right hand.
• 4:22
In her left hand are riches and honor.
• 4:24
Her ways are ways of pleasantness.
• 4:26
All her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those
• 4:30
who lay hold of her. Happy is everyone who retains
• 4:33
her by wisdom. Yahweh founded the earth.
• 4:35
By understanding He established the heavens.
• 4:38
By His knowledge the depths were broken up and the skies dropped
• 4:41
down the dew. Matthew Chapter 6 World English
• 4:45
Bible Be careful that you don't do your charitable giving before
• 4:48
men to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your
• 4:52
Father who is in heaven. Therefore, when you do merciful
• 4:55
deeds, don't sound a trumpet before yourself as the
• 4:58
hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they
• 5:01
may get glory from men. Most certainly, I tell you, they
• 5:05
have received their reward. But when you do merciful deeds,
• 5:08
don't let your left hand know what your right hand does, so
• 5:11
that your merciful deeds may be in secret.
• 5:14
Then your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly.
• 5:17
When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love
• 5:20
to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of
• 5:23
the streets, that they may be seen by men.
• 5:26
Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward.
• 5:29
But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having
• 5:33
shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and
• 5:36
your Father who sees in secret, will reward you openly.
• 5:40
In praying. Don't use vain repetitions as
• 5:42
the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for
• 5:45
their much speaking. Therefore don't be like them,
• 5:48
for your Father knows what things you need before you ask
• 5:51
  him. Pray like this.
• 5:53
Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
• 5:56
Let your Kingdom come, let your will be done on earth as it is
• 5:59
in heaven. Give us today Our Daily Bread.
• 6:02
Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
• 6:05
Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil
• 6:08
one. For yours is the Kingdom, the
• 6:10
power, and the glory forever. Amen.
• 6:13
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father
• 6:16
will also forgive you. But if you don't forgive men
• 6:18
their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your
• 6:21
trespasses. Moreover, when you fast, don't
• 6:24
be like the hypocrites with sad faces, for they disfigure their
• 6:28
faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting.
• 6:31
Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward.
• 6:34
But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so
• 6:38
that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your father
• 6:41
who is in secret, And your father who sees in secret, will
• 6:44
reward you. Don't lay up treasures for
• 6:47
yourselves on the earth where moth and rust consume and where
• 6:50
thieves breakthrough and steal, but lay up for yourselves
• 6:53
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume,
• 6:57
and where thieves don't breakthrough and steal.
• 6:59
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
• 7:02
The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound,
• 7:06
your whole body will be full of light.
• 7:08
But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of
• 7:11
darkness. If therefore the light that is
• 7:13
in you is darkness, how great is the darkness?
• 7:16
No one can serve 2 masters, for either he will hate the one and
• 7:20
love the other, or else he will be devoted to 1 and despise the
• 7:24
other. You can't serve both God and
• 7:26
Mammon. Therefore I tell you, don't be
• 7:28
anxious for your life, what you will eat or what you will drink,
• 7:32
nor yet for your body what you will wear.
• 7:34
Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing?
• 7:37
See the birds of the sky that they don't sow, neither do they
• 7:40
reap nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them.
• 7:44
Aren't you of much more value than they?
• 7:47
Which of you by being anxious can add 1 moment to his
• 7:49
lifespan? Why are you anxious about
• 7:51
clothing? Consider the lilies of the
• 7:53
field, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they
• 7:57
spin. Yet I tell you that even Solomon
• 7:59
in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.
• 8:02
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today
• 8:05
exists, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won't he much
• 8:08
more clothe you? You have little faith, therefore
• 8:10
don't be anxious saying, what will we eat, what will we drink,
• 8:14
or with what will we be clothed? For the Gentiles seek after all
• 8:18
these things, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all
• 8:21
these things. But seek first God's Kingdom and
• 8:24
His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as
• 8:27
well. Therefore, don't be anxious for
• 8:29
tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.
• 8:32
Each day's own evil is sufficient.
