- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in scripture and relevant for today, January 9th.
- 0:11True riches. We all chase things we believe
- 0:13are valuable. Maybe it's money, success,
- 0:16grades, recognition, or the feeling of being admired and
- 0:19noticed. It can feel like if we just get
- 0:21one more thing, one more achievement, one more upgrade,
- 0:24one more win, we'll finally feel secure.
- 0:28But deep down, most of us have discovered that those feelings
- 0:31don't last. The excitement fades, the
- 0:33pressure returns, and we're left wanting more.
- 0:36That's because we were never meant to build our lives on
- 0:39temporary treasure. Proverbs chapter 3, verses 19 to
- 0:4320 reminds us who God is and how he works.
- 0:46It says the Lord by wisdom founded the earth by
- 0:49understanding. He established the heavens by
- 0:51his knowledge. The deeps broke open, and the
- 0:53clouds drop down the dew. Everything we see, every system,
- 0:58every rhythm, every detail of creation was built by God's
- 1:01wisdom. That means wisdom isn't just
- 1:04helpful advice, it's foundational.
- 1:06When you pursue God's wisdom, you're aligning your life with
- 1:09the very principles that hold the world together.
- 1:12Jesus takes this even deeper in Matthew chapter 6.
- 1:15He says, do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
- 1:19but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.
- 1:21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
- 1:24Jesus isn't saying that material things are evil.
- 1:27He's saying they're unstable. Earthly treasures can be lost,
- 1:31broken, stolen, or outdated. But heavenly treasure, things
- 1:35like obedience, faithfulness, generosity, integrity, and love
- 1:39can never be taken away. What you value most will quietly
- 1:42shape your heart, your habits, and your direction.
- 1:45True riches aren't measured by what you own, but by who you're
- 1:48becoming. When you choose honesty over
- 1:50shortcuts, kindness over clout, and obedience over popularity,
- 1:54you're storing up treasure that lasts.
- 1:56When you invest time in God's Word, listen for His voice, and
- 1:59walk in His wisdom, you're building a life that's rooted,
- 2:02steady, and secure. The world will always push you
- 2:05to chase what looks impressive, but God invites you to pursue
- 2:09what's eternal. And when you do, you discover
- 2:12that His wisdom brings peace, clarity, and purpose that
- 2:14nothing else can offer. Let's pray.
- 2:17Heavenly Father, thank you for showing me that true riches are
- 2:20found in You. Help me not to be distracted by
- 2:23things that fade, but to treasure what lasts forever.
- 2:27Teach me to seek Your wisdom in every decision and to set my
- 2:30heart on what matters most to You.
- 2:32Shape my desires, guide my choices, and help me live for
- 2:35eternal treasure in Jesus name, Amen.

- 3:58Bible reading plan. Proverbs chapter 3 verses 13 to
- 4:0220 World English Bible. Happy is the man who finds
- 4:07wisdom, the man who gets understanding.
- 4:09For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her
- 4:12return is better than fine gold. She is more precious than
- 4:16rubies. None of the things you can
- 4:18desire are to be compared to her.
- 4:20Length of days is in her right hand.
- 4:22In her left hand are riches and honor.
- 4:24Her ways are ways of pleasantness.
- 4:26All her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those
- 4:30who lay hold of her. Happy is everyone who retains
- 4:33her by wisdom. Yahweh founded the earth.
- 4:35By understanding He established the heavens.
- 4:38By His knowledge the depths were broken up and the skies dropped
- 4:41down the dew. Matthew Chapter 6 World English
- 4:45Bible Be careful that you don't do your charitable giving before
- 4:48men to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your
- 4:52Father who is in heaven. Therefore, when you do merciful
- 4:55deeds, don't sound a trumpet before yourself as the
- 4:58hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they
- 5:01may get glory from men. Most certainly, I tell you, they
- 5:05have received their reward. But when you do merciful deeds,
- 5:08don't let your left hand know what your right hand does, so
- 5:11that your merciful deeds may be in secret.
- 5:14Then your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly.
- 5:17When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love
- 5:20to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of
- 5:23the streets, that they may be seen by men.
- 5:26Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward.
- 5:29But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having
- 5:33shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and
- 5:36your Father who sees in secret, will reward you openly.
- 5:40In praying. Don't use vain repetitions as
- 5:42the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for
- 5:45their much speaking. Therefore don't be like them,
- 5:48for your Father knows what things you need before you ask
- 5:51him. Pray like this.
- 5:53Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
- 5:56Let your Kingdom come, let your will be done on earth as it is
- 5:59in heaven. Give us today Our Daily Bread.
- 6:02Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
- 6:05Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil
- 6:08one. For yours is the Kingdom, the
- 6:10power, and the glory forever. Amen.
- 6:13For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father
- 6:16will also forgive you. But if you don't forgive men
- 6:18their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your
- 6:21trespasses. Moreover, when you fast, don't
- 6:24be like the hypocrites with sad faces, for they disfigure their
- 6:28faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting.
- 6:31Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward.
- 6:34But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so
- 6:38that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your father
- 6:41who is in secret, And your father who sees in secret, will
- 6:44reward you. Don't lay up treasures for
- 6:47yourselves on the earth where moth and rust consume and where
- 6:50thieves breakthrough and steal, but lay up for yourselves
- 6:53treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume,
- 6:57and where thieves don't breakthrough and steal.
- 6:59For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
- 7:02The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound,
- 7:06your whole body will be full of light.
- 7:08But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of
- 7:11darkness. If therefore the light that is
- 7:13in you is darkness, how great is the darkness?
- 7:16No one can serve 2 masters, for either he will hate the one and
- 7:20love the other, or else he will be devoted to 1 and despise the
- 7:24other. You can't serve both God and
- 7:26Mammon. Therefore I tell you, don't be
- 7:28anxious for your life, what you will eat or what you will drink,
- 7:32nor yet for your body what you will wear.
- 7:34Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing?
- 7:37See the birds of the sky that they don't sow, neither do they
- 7:40reap nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them.
- 7:44Aren't you of much more value than they?
- 7:47Which of you by being anxious can add 1 moment to his
- 7:49lifespan? Why are you anxious about
- 7:51clothing? Consider the lilies of the
- 7:53field, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they
- 7:57spin. Yet I tell you that even Solomon
- 7:59in all his glory was not dressed like one of these.
- 8:02But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today
- 8:05exists, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won't he much
- 8:08more clothe you? You have little faith, therefore
- 8:10don't be anxious saying, what will we eat, what will we drink,
- 8:14or with what will we be clothed? For the Gentiles seek after all
- 8:18these things, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all
- 8:21these things. But seek first God's Kingdom and
- 8:24His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as
- 8:27well. Therefore, don't be anxious for
- 8:29tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.
- 8:32Each day's own evil is sufficient.
