- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, it's time for some real honest talk between writers.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: It's just you and me, two friends gathered around the speaker as you're listening to this podcast, or your headphones, as it were.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: We're kind of burying our souls together.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: So I've got to be totally honest with you.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: I'm starting to have a real issue with something.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: And here's the issue that I'm having a hard time with.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: It's with all the writers who whine about how hard that writing is.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, is it really so hard?
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: When we think about the quote unquote hard things in life, sometimes I have trouble putting writing in the same league as those other things.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Here's what I mean.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I think being a single parent is probably really, really hard.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I think that having cancer is probably really, really hard.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: I think getting a divorce and separating from your family and going through that whole process is probably really, really hard.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I think that losing a child is something that is probably excruciatingly hard.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Getting sued or losing your job is hard.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Dealing with major surgery is hard.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Having a severe case of COVID is really hard.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Those are all hard things that people around the world go through every single day, and chances are you've probably known, just like I do, you've probably known people who've been through each of those situations.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: So here's what I'm proposing.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: What if, instead of assuming that writing is going to be hard and it's going to suck the life out of us, and it's going to be so difficult and just so treacherous, what if instead of assuming that we assume that writing is going to be joyful?
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: It's going to be fun.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: It's going to be easier than we think.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Does writing involve effort?
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Well, of course it does.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Uh is it challenging?
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Yes, of course it is challenging.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: But it seems so much easier than a lot of very difficult things that people go through.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: So I just kind of want to propose this idea out there for the whole writing community that maybe writing isn't as hard as we make it.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Maybe there are actually way more things in life that are so much harder than putting words down on paper or down a computer.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: You know, when you come to think of it, people like me who I'm a full-time writer or if you're a part-time writer, we actually have a pretty nice life, don't we?
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, the greatest danger that we face is the danger of uh getting carpal tunnel syndrome, you know, because we're typing too much or something.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: So it's not like we're going out there facing these mortal dangers every day.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: It's it's just writing, folks.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: It's just words.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: It's just writing.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: There are things in life that are way, way harder than what we deal with whenever we think that writing is like the hardest thing that we do.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: That's just my perspective.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe you totally disagree and that's totally fine, but but I do think it's worth considering that, you know, sometimes we in our minds we think things are these really difficult things when maybe the difficulty is not in the actual doing of the thing.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Maybe the difficulty comes with our attitude toward it.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: So that's just some food for thought.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: So here's your daily question.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Why do you think writers believe writing is so hard?
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: I would be super curious to hear your answer about that.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I don't often say this on the podcast, but feel free to touch base with me.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Um I'm on Facebook, I'm on Instagram, um, you can connect with me through email, Kent at KentSanders.net, or Kent at DailyWriterLife.com.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Either one of those will go to the same inbox.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: So touch base with me.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: I'm curious about your response to this.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: So every day for the next year, you can have a shot of inspiration delivered straight to your inbox.
