- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the garage.
- 0:31It's freezing and dark, so we're in the garage again.
- 0:34OK, so we're talking today about this old story.
- 0:38It's been around so many times, so many different ways, but I
- 0:41love it and I love to start off the year always hearing about
- 0:45this. So if you've heard it, love it
- 0:48again and dive into it with me. If you haven't heard it, oh,
- 0:51it's a good one. OK, so there was this old, old
- 0:55sage in a village, and one of his students came up to him and
- 1:00said to him that the conditions of the world we're just so
- 1:05horrible. He could not take it anymore.
- 1:07He did not like it, and he just wanted to go off and he didn't
- 1:10want to see people anymore. He just wanted to go live by
- 1:13himself. So this sage said to him, I want
- 1:16you to do an experiment for me. And he said, follow me to the
- 1:20kitchen. And they walked into this little
- 1:22kitchen and he lit a fire and he handed him a pot and some
- 1:28carrots. And he said, I want you to go
- 1:31out and I want you to figure out what happens to these carrots
- 1:37when you put them in water. And he said, oh, they're going
- 1:41to cook. He said, yes, I know, but do the
- 1:42exercise. So he comes back and he says
- 1:47puts the carrots in the boils the water, puts water in the
- 1:49pot, boils the water and puts the carrots in.
- 1:52And then he comes back to the sage who's sitting out under a
- 1:55tree. And he said the carrots are
- 1:58cooked. And he said, yes, but what's the
- 1:59state of the carrot? And he said it's soft and mushy.
- 2:04And he said yes, and how was it before the water?
- 2:07And he said it was hard. And he said very good.
- 2:11And he said, now let's redo the do another experiment.
- 2:16And he said, OK, but I still want to leave.
- 2:19And the sage said, I understand, but I want you to see something.
- 2:24He said, OK. He said boil another pot of
- 2:27water and the sage comes back and hands him an egg.
- 2:30And he says, now do the same with the egg.
- 2:33So he puts the egg in it boils. Sage is waiting out under the
- 2:37tree. And the boy comes back and says,
- 2:40OK, here is this. He says, now what's the
- 2:41condition of the egg? He says, it's hard, he said.
- 2:45Exactly. And he said, now he said, one
- 2:48more experiment. And he hands them some tea
- 2:50leaves. And he says, now boil another
- 2:52pot of water. And he boils the other pot of
- 2:55water. And while he's doing this, the
- 2:58sage has set up cups and he's got the plate of carrots and
- 3:03he's got the hard boiled egg in front of him and outcomes the
- 3:06boy with the the pan of water. And he says, what happened?
- 3:11And he said, well, the the tea leaves made tea.
- 3:16And he said exactly. And so he strains it out and he
- 3:19pours it into the cups. And he's this voice says, I'm so
- 3:23confused. I don't understand what's going
- 3:25on. And he said, what's the, what
- 3:28was the state of the water when you finished cooking the
- 3:31carrots? And he said it was water.
- 3:34And he said, and what was the state of the water when you
- 3:36finished cooking the egg? And he said, well, it's still
- 3:39water. And he said, and both of those
- 3:42items have changed significantly.
- 3:44The carrots changed significantly and the the egg
- 3:47changed significantly. And he said, yes, he said, but
- 3:50what happened with the water with the tea leaves?
- 3:53And he said, the tea leaves change the water.
- 3:57And he said, exactly. And he sat there for a moment
- 4:01and the boy said, I'm confused, but I think I understand what
- 4:06you're saying. And the sage said, well, tell
- 4:08me, what do you think I said? And I said, and he said, I think
- 4:13you mean that the water is like the world.
- 4:17The water is hard and boiling and it can, I can allow it to
- 4:21make me soft and mushy. I can allow it to make me hard
- 4:26or I could change the world like the tea leaves.
- 4:30And he said, and that my son, is the lesson.
- 4:33So the big point of this is we are always going to be under
- 4:38conditions. Always, always, always be under
- 4:41conditions, no matter what's happening.
- 4:44It's around us and it's happening and we have to deal
- 4:48with it and we have to decide if we're going to allow it to
- 4:51change us into something wonderful or into something hard
- 4:56or mushy put to the side. We have to make a decision.
- 5:01We have to decide to be the tea leaves.
- 5:03Really, that's what it is. We want to change the world.
- 5:06If you're listening to this podcast, my sneaking suspicion
- 5:10is that you want to go out and change at least your world and
- 5:13probably the world of others around you.
- 5:15Because isn't that the whole purpose of why we're here?
- 5:18To lift each other up, to help each other to do these things?
- 5:22It's why I do this podcast every day because honestly, I don't
- 5:25make one penny off this podcast, but I just do it because I love
- 5:28it. To be able to know I'm sending
- 5:30out good vibes into the world every single day for four years
- 5:33now going into the 4th year. And that just makes my heart
- 5:36happy. So I know I can do a better job
- 5:39in my day when I do this. So I like to be the tea leaves.
- 5:43So my friends, I hope you enjoy some tea today because I know I
- 5:46will be and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:48Have a blessed day, bye.
