- 0:17Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a Phil from Whitechapel and our new album,
- 0:23Speaker 1: Hymns and Dissonance will be out March seventh, and uh
- 0:29Speaker 1: yeah excited about it.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Fantastic Brian, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Absolutely as you say, my friend, watch out for release
- 0:38Speaker 3: a new album, hims in Dissonance on March of seventh.
- 0:41Speaker 3: So how you feel about I know it's only it's
- 0:43Speaker 3: still about a month away, but how you feeling a great?
- 0:47Speaker 1: I mean, I'm you know, it feels like it's been
- 0:49Speaker 1: a a long process. It's, uh, you know, finally finally
- 0:56Speaker 1: get to get it out there and have people hear
- 0:58Speaker 1: it and see what they think about it. And yeah,
- 1:01Speaker 1: it just feels like it's been, you know, forever, because
- 1:04Speaker 1: you know, we've been sitting on the album for quite
- 1:05Speaker 1: a while and uh, you know, just that's how kind
- 1:08Speaker 1: of how it works nowadays. You know, it's, uh, there's
- 1:10Speaker 1: a lot of bands out there, and the way streaming
- 1:14Speaker 1: works and all that stuff, you kind of just got
- 1:15Speaker 1: to get in line for your release.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Now.
- 1:19Speaker 3: You guys sitting on an album while that might like
- 1:20Speaker 3: you're one of those people that puts it to bed
- 1:22Speaker 3: once it's done, or do you sort of hate things
- 1:24Speaker 3: like I put it on this so I could change that.
- 1:26Speaker 5: But oh no, we we we we're proud of it,
- 1:31Speaker 5: you know we uh we yeah, we just kind of
- 1:34Speaker 5: do our thing and then uh you know, just uh
- 1:38Speaker 5: wait till it comes out and yeah, we don't have
- 1:40Speaker 5: any regrets or anything like that.
- 1:43Speaker 2: A man can tell us people more about it musically
- 1:45Speaker 2: and not in what you were gone for with it.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Uh yeah, I mean it's uh, it's definitely kind of
- 1:51Speaker 1: uh for fans that discovered us within the past couple
- 1:55Speaker 1: of years, it'll probably be a little bit of a
- 1:59Speaker 1: newer sound for them, But for people that have followed
- 2:02Speaker 1: us for longer than that, you know, from the early days,
- 2:07Speaker 1: you know, it's gonna be kind of like a you know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: it's it's gonna be a familiar, familiar territory for sure.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Is that something you sort of.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Sit down in the writing process and discuss that you
- 2:17Speaker 3: want to go back to that period and have music
- 2:20Speaker 3: that sounds a lot of that or is it just
- 2:21Speaker 3: come naturally?
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's uh, it's being in a band
- 2:28Speaker 1: is just kind of like it's very you know, it
- 2:33Speaker 1: just it just things come in waves, you know, like
- 2:35Speaker 1: there's we were very uh inspired by a lot of
- 2:39Speaker 1: different types of music, you know, a lot of it
- 2:42Speaker 1: mainly being you know hard you know, death metal and
- 2:44Speaker 1: stuff like that. But yeah, I mean I just, uh,
- 2:48Speaker 1: I think that we were all just kind of having
- 2:50Speaker 1: that that itch to write something really heavy and extreme again.
- 2:54Speaker 1: And uh this is uh this is the forty year
- 2:58Speaker 1: old version of us coming up with that instead of
- 3:01Speaker 1: the you know, the young kid version, you know, the
- 3:03Speaker 1: twenty one year old version of it.
- 3:07Speaker 3: So a lot of those lines, Like Alex has been
- 3:09Speaker 3: quite as saying that we attempted to write our heaviest
- 3:12Speaker 3: album to date.
- 3:12Speaker 2: So to define.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Heaviness in your teams like these days, heaviness means a
- 3:16Speaker 3: hell of a lot of things.
- 3:17Speaker 2: So when you say the heaviest to date, what do
- 3:19Speaker 2: you mean by that?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Uh, yeah, I mean it's a lot of it has
- 3:23Speaker 1: to do with, you know, musically, you know, just the
- 3:27Speaker 1: just sonically how it sounds, and yeah, I mean that
- 3:33Speaker 1: and the overall mood, the the you know, just kind
- 3:37Speaker 1: of like the tone that we're trying to set with it,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and uh, yeah, I mean just there's a lot of
- 3:44Speaker 1: things other than just the music, you know, just the theme,
- 3:48Speaker 1: the overall tone of the album, the way the album
- 3:51Speaker 1: sounds sonically, and uh, you know, just the writing style.
- 3:56Speaker 4: To date, you.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Released the singles of Visceral World and Hymns in Dissonance, Right,
- 4:00Speaker 3: So are they good sonic representation of what to expect
- 4:03Speaker 3: or are they just painting a small picture?
- 4:06Speaker 1: I mean, I would say it's gonna be what to expect.
- 4:10Speaker 1: But also it does paint a small picture because I
- 4:12Speaker 1: feel like every every song on the album has its
- 4:14Speaker 1: own kind of feeling towards it, and none of them
- 4:20Speaker 1: are just the same. You know, they don't really sound
- 4:23Speaker 1: exactly the same. You know, with with heavy metal and
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know, extreme music in general, it is kind of
- 4:28Speaker 1: hard to separate them from the others. But yeah, I
- 4:31Speaker 1: mean it's just very uh. I feel like the flow
- 4:35Speaker 1: of the album is very Yeah. I love the flow
- 4:38Speaker 1: of the album and just just the transition from song
- 4:41Speaker 1: to song. I think it's a you know, it's a
- 4:43Speaker 1: good representation.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I know that subject mate, Like you mentioned a
- 4:48Speaker 3: transition from song to song, Like I hop back in
- 4:50Speaker 3: how they used to have to think about that when
- 4:52Speaker 3: put an album together, you know, like how the songs
- 4:54Speaker 3: can sort of flow into each other. But these days,
- 4:56Speaker 3: with social media and people just taking shit randomly, Like,
- 5:00Speaker 3: does that still thinking when you put an album together,
- 5:03Speaker 3: the actual track listing.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess it's just because that's kind of the
- 5:07Speaker 1: era that we come from, you know. Nowadays, Yeah, it
- 5:11Speaker 1: is a lot different the the flow of the album
- 5:16Speaker 1: because you know, everything's digital now. You know, it's it's
- 5:19Speaker 1: a lot of singles, and putting out an album isn't
- 5:23Speaker 1: necessarily the the norm. I guess you could. It's starting
- 5:27Speaker 1: to become less of the norm. You know, people are
- 5:31Speaker 1: just you know, making single tracks and songs here and there,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and but I still think albums for sure. That's just
- 5:40Speaker 1: the era that we come from, and that's just kind
- 5:42Speaker 1: of how we are. Yeah, just just kind of how
- 5:47Speaker 1: we're wired. And we just really like to put it
- 5:49Speaker 1: put together a whole you know, kind of it's kind
- 5:51Speaker 1: of like a book. You know, you can't just release pages,
- 5:54Speaker 1: you know, every now and then. You know, Uh, that's
- 5:57Speaker 1: how we feel with music, you know, you just got
- 5:58Speaker 1: to release the whole thing as a cohesive unit.
- 6:01Speaker 3: I think that's actually probably one of the best things
- 6:03Speaker 3: about vinyl making it come back out, in the fact
- 6:05Speaker 3: that Vinyl's gold. But when someone picks up vinyl listen,
- 6:08Speaker 3: is said, they have to listen to the whole thing
- 6:10Speaker 3: pretty much depend show you do get that full immersive experience.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Like you used to.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I mean you know vinyl, it's it's
- 6:19Speaker 1: it's it's it's so funny. I just think everything comes
- 6:22Speaker 1: full circle. Uh A lot of the old school stuff
- 6:26Speaker 1: is you know, that's that's just how you know, stuff
- 6:28Speaker 1: is timeless, you know, because vinyl has been around for forever,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know, and uh, you know long before you know,
- 6:36Speaker 1: the younger generation you know, has been around. So I
- 6:39Speaker 1: mean it's a it's an ancient piece of music, but
- 6:43Speaker 1: it's making a comeback and you know, it's just a
- 6:45Speaker 1: it's just the classic you know, that's what That's what
- 6:48Speaker 1: music was before CDs and cassette tapes and stuff was
- 6:51Speaker 1: you know, the vinyl.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Nothing that sucked that we could remember that Like it's
- 6:55Speaker 2: like it's a.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Norm oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 3: So hims in Dissonance Like as a whole, it sort
- 7:03Speaker 3: of follows a cult leader trying to gather worthy people
- 7:07Speaker 3: into his into his sector, I guess, But can.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Can you break it down a little bit for us?
- 7:11Speaker 2: But what it's about?
- 7:13Speaker 1: Uh yeah, So this as far as lyrically and everything goes.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Uh.
- 7:18Speaker 1: This record is story wise as a direct sequel to
- 7:26Speaker 1: This Is Exile, and it's following the uh basically what
- 7:34Speaker 1: it is is, uh, this this guy thinks that he is,
- 7:39Speaker 1: you know, the the chosen son of you know, the
- 7:42Speaker 1: devil himself, and that he's uh yeah, he's gathering this
- 7:50Speaker 1: this cult to resurrect his you know, the lord of
- 7:53Speaker 1: evil and to you know, just take over everything and
- 7:58Speaker 1: be the success for the success es of where his
- 8:01Speaker 1: brother had failed.
- 8:02Speaker 6: And yeah, and.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It's uh the way he's doing is is committing the
- 8:09Speaker 1: Seven Cardinal Sins to you know, in in to to
- 8:14Speaker 1: enact these seven Cardinal Sins to as like kind of
- 8:18Speaker 1: like a ritual to resurrect him.
- 8:20Speaker 2: That's pretty heavy subject, mate, made.
- 8:21Speaker 3: It must have been pretty pretty immersive to write that
- 8:24Speaker 3: sort of stuff.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's uh yeah, I mean, whenever I get
- 8:29Speaker 1: to writing and stuff, you know, I kind of you know,
- 8:32Speaker 1: think about some pretty weird stuff for sure.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And you actually started writing the album in June twenty
- 8:40Speaker 3: twenty three with a strictly weekday writing schedule, which is
- 8:44Speaker 3: very strange for a band made like right as through
- 8:46Speaker 3: how that came about and how it actually helped end.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I mean as far as that whole schedule goes, it's
- 8:55Speaker 1: mainly just a lot of it is because of you know,
- 8:59Speaker 1: we're all we're all older now, and you know, we
- 9:03Speaker 1: all have our own personal lives and things going on
- 9:06Speaker 1: in our lives. So we figured, you know, coming up
- 9:10Speaker 1: with that schedule, uh, is going to be more beneficial
- 9:14Speaker 1: to us. You know, there's there's guys in the band
- 9:16Speaker 1: that have you know, they have a.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Kid or.
- 9:20Speaker 1: You know, just again just just stuff going on in
- 9:23Speaker 1: their life, and to have that that schedule is uh,
- 9:27Speaker 1: it was very beneficial towards us, you know, because it's
- 9:29Speaker 1: kind of like, you know, this is our job, so
- 9:31Speaker 1: you know, to have that structure like a job, will
- 9:34Speaker 1: just be more efficient as.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Strict was that I just say seven pm, but not
- 9:39Speaker 3: you're sitting there at this Gradeaudi, Come see you pick
- 9:41Speaker 3: out the fine ring, Alex and go man, I got
- 9:43Speaker 3: this Gradeaudie, Like you see, fuck.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Off this past six o'clock.
- 9:47Speaker 1: We're not doing that, Yeah, exactly.
- 9:52Speaker 3: You guys also self produce the album too, Like, what
- 9:56Speaker 3: are some of the advantages and disadvantages of keeping that
- 9:58Speaker 3: in house?
- 10:00Speaker 6: Uh?
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean just being able to do it from
- 10:03Speaker 1: pretty much the comfort of our own home, uh is
- 10:06Speaker 1: uh yeah, I mean that's uh. I mean you can't
- 10:11Speaker 1: really get any better than that. You know, you don't
- 10:13Speaker 1: have to travel and go sleep in a hotel that
- 10:15Speaker 1: you're not familiar with, or being an area that you're
- 10:18Speaker 1: not familiar with, and uh yeah, just kind of having
- 10:21Speaker 1: our own uh you know, just being in in the
- 10:26Speaker 1: comfort of our own homes and you know, just local
- 10:29Speaker 1: and yeah, I mean it was just it's it's really
- 10:32Speaker 1: hard to beat that.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Yeah for sure. And then have you had a chance to,
- 10:36Speaker 2: right chester study of the songs live yet?
- 10:38Speaker 6: Uh?
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, we played Visceral and Hymns the song we just
- 10:43Speaker 1: released Hymns and Distance. We've played those two live, but
- 10:48Speaker 1: none of the other ones we haven't played live yet.
- 10:50Speaker 2: How they got down?
- 10:51Speaker 3: But because you said before so to step back to
- 10:53Speaker 3: the older music and the newer fans might not appreciate
- 10:56Speaker 3: it as much to start off, like, how did it
- 10:58Speaker 3: go live?
- 10:59Speaker 2: Could you could you see that?
- 11:01Speaker 6: Uh?
- 11:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think that, Uh, the newer fans
- 11:06Speaker 1: they do like the heavier stuff, because we still stayed heavy,
- 11:09Speaker 1: but we just had different elements and different U kind
- 11:13Speaker 1: of a more nuanced sound, uh compared to like our
- 11:17Speaker 1: older stuff. So I think that, uh, I think it's
- 11:20Speaker 1: gonna be appreciated, and I think that you know they're
- 11:23Speaker 1: gonna like it, and uh, you know, time will tell,
- 11:27Speaker 1: but I I'm very confident about it.
- 12:01Speaker 7: Fall all rock car and the worst.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Sorry works of franchise.
- 12:04Speaker 4: I'm all.
- 12:07Speaker 8: The church.
- 12:09Speaker 7: I'll go rush and all dry scared all the work.
- 12:16Speaker 7: I'm like God, sorry, I'm going fellow watch all day.
- 12:23Speaker 7: Yashi makes a light, sun.

- 13:06Speaker 7: Saw and rush shot war shot so cast dost shod
- 13:10Speaker 7: works are no more than wist drivery cause were your
- 13:15Speaker 7: or deserts off for your shots.
- 13:25Speaker 6: Spots over or the world for those a few tags
- 13:38Speaker 6: that the walls can't break. Play out the rusted bas
- 13:42Speaker 6: take a.
- 13:42Speaker 7: While, You're a try, You're a pot someone.
- 13:46Speaker 6: Long it's the last such a ship.
