Transcript
- 0:00What is an opposition?
- 0:02In astrology there are aspects.
- 0:05Aspects are specific configurations of planets, geometrical intervals between planets or points in a chart.
- 0:13There are many different types of aspects, but there are five recognized major aspects called Potomac aspects.
- 0:21There's the conjunction, the Sextile, the Square, the Trine and the opposition.
- 0:28Aspects allow planets to form relationships and to interact with each other in different ways depending on the aspect and other factors in the chart.
- 0:39Aspects are really speaking to a planet's ability to see another planet and to form a relationship.
- 0:48Seeing as in vision.
- 0:52An opposition is an aspect that connects two planets that are separated by 180 degrees or they're separated by seven signs from each other.
- 1:02If you're using sign based aspects.
- 1:05And opposition is direct polarity.
- 1:09It's the energy that is separate from self, contrary to what you may want.
- 1:16Someone or something restricts you, challenges your authority, test your commitments.
- 1:23Someone or something is causing you to make a decision and make that decision now.
- 1:30But here's the deeper truth.
- 1:32Opposition serves to get you to know the projections are coming from within.
- 1:38The external events are just a mirror for the internal.
- 1:44And opposition isn't about conflict between two separate things.
- 1:48It's about recognizing that the external challenge is showing you something internal.
- 1:56It's one truth being experienced from two different vantage points simultaneously.
- 2:03Think of an opposition as maximum visibility.
- 2:07Two planets staring directly at each other from across the chart.
- 2:12Like a showdown.
- 2:14Nothing hidden, full confrontation.
- 2:18But what they're really seeing is each other as a mirror.
- 2:24The opposition forces you to hold both polarities.
- 2:29The internal reality and the external reality.
- 2:34These aren't contradictory truths fighting.
- 2:37They're complementary truths asking to be integrated.
- 2:42Lets break down how this works using the first House and the seventh house axis as a natural polarity point.
- 2:50Before we get to any specific planets, you need to understand this axis itself.
- 2:57The first House represents the self, the body.
- 3:00Physical appearance, your vital life force, temperament, character, personality, your Persona.
- 3:09How you naturally express yourself.
- 3:11The beginning of all actions, your individuality and self image.
- 3:18The seventh House represents your marriage, spouse, significant other, business partners and contractual relationships.
- 3:30The other party in all negotiations and agreements.
- 3:35Psychological projections, how others perceive you, enemies and opponents, anyone who mirrors something back to you.
- 3:48This axis naturally creates a polarity between I am and you are.
- 3:55They see me as any opposition across the first seventh house axis will will highlight the gap between how you experience yourself internally.
- 4:06First House.
- 4:08How others experience you externally.
- 4:11Seventh House.
- 4:13It's the self other divide made visible.
- 4:18Let's get personal.
- 4:19I have Saturn in the first house.
- 4:21Gemini.
- 4:23And I have Jupiter.
- 4:24Conjunct Neptune in the seventh house, Sagittarius.
- 4:28Now, what does this feel like internally?
- 4:31My Saturn in the first house means I'm constantly self monitoring, self correcting.
- 4:38There's this permanent sense of I'm not done yet.
- 4:42The humility isn't performative.
- 4:45It's just built into how I experience myself.
- 4:50I'm always aware of my limitations.
- 4:52I always feeling like I'm still climbing.
- 4:57Saturn makes me feel small even when I'm not.
- 5:01It's not insecurity, it's calibration.
- 5:05My internal dialogue is always.
- 5:08I can refine this more.
- 5:10I'm still learning.
- 5:12I haven't earned that title.
- 5:15Now that would be the first house.
- 5:19What others experience.
- 5:21The seventh house, Jupiter conjunct Neptune in Sagittarius creates something completely different for other people.
- 5:30People project wisdom onto me.
- 5:33Clients see me as a guide or a teacher in relationships.
- 5:38I become the big one, the authority figure, whether I want that role or not.
- 5:45Hell, in high school, I was the only black on the football team.
- 5:49All white.
- 5:51They elected me captain of the football team.
- 5:53What the hell?
- 5:56My public presence feels expansive to others.
- 6:00The Neptune conjunction adds mystique, spiritual authority, intuitive fluency.
- 6:09People idealize me.
- 6:12They experience me as someone who channels rather than calculates.
- 6:17So while I feel like a student internally, others experience me as a master externally.
- 6:27This is the tension.
- 6:28I live with a lifetime tension inside.
- 6:32I feel like I'm not enough.
- 6:34I need to refine more.
- 6:36I'm still learning what others perceive when they speak to me.
- 6:42You're a master.
- 6:43You're gifted.
- 6:44You're on another level.
- 6:47This creates a constant dynamic where I feel small, others see me big, I feel like a student.
- 6:56Others experience me as a teacher.
- 6:59I feel like I'm still climbing.
- 7:01Others see me standing on a mountain.
- 7:03This is the opposition in action.
- 7:07Think about this, y'.
- 7:08All, Michael Jordan, we all know him.
- 7:11Some of y' all might have issues on your feet.
- 7:13Now, do you think Michael Jordan walks around feeling like the goat?
- 7:22Or do you think internally he focused on the next shot?
- 7:27The weakness in his game, what he needs to improve, the competition, the actual work, what you think he's probably thinking, man, I just showed up every day, worked harder than everyone else, studied the game and I competed.
- 7:52But what everyone else experienced, that's the greatest basketball player of all time.
- 8:00He's the goat.
- 8:02Title is External Perception of Internal Excellence.
- 8:09But here's the thing.
- 8:11If MJ walked around feeling like the goat all the time, he probably would have never been the goat.
- 8:20The relentless self critique, the obsessive refinement.
- 8:25The I'm not done yet mentality.
- 8:28That's what made him great.
- 8:30That's what this opposition does.
- 8:34I don't feel like no master.
- 8:36I feel like someone who organizes information so others can understand it.
- 8:42But when I do that work with precision, depth and integration, that creates mastery externally, whether I claim it or not.
- 8:52What I've come to understand.
- 8:54The opposition matures when I realize I don't have to feel like a master to be perceived as one.
- 9:02I don't have to claim the mountain to be standing on it.
- 9:06I don't have to like the title for it to be true from the outside.
- 9:13I'm not supposed to feel like the master.
- 9:15I'm supposed to be one without ego.
- 9:19That's the whole architecture of my chart.
- 9:23My chart is built this way.
- 9:25This specific opposition creates wisdom.
- 9:28Without ego, my Saturn keeps me humble while my Jupiter allows transmission authority.
- 9:35Without arrogance, I have influence but remain grounded.
- 9:39Mastery without identification.
- 9:42I embody it without claiming it.
- 9:45If I feel like a master, my chart would be unbalanced.
- 9:50My Saturn's job is to keep me grounded.
- 9:53My Jupiter's job is to let others receive wisdom through me.
- 9:58The opposition forces a middle path.
- 10:02Be the thing without claiming the thing.
- 10:05What the hell?
- 10:07How can anybody be the thing without claiming a thing?
- 10:12My work deals with power, people's trauma, unconscious patterns, relationships, identity, soul level questions.
- 10:24I see a lot of readers on social media who seem drawn to this work for their attention, the performance, the clout.
- 10:35They're doing it to be seen, not to serve the people.
- 10:40But when you're dealing with people's deepest wounds, their unconscious programming, their soul level questions, that's not content.
- 10:50That's power.
- 10:52Real power.
- 10:54If someone with a big ego handled that material, they distort it.
- 10:59If someone with arrogance handled it, they'd harm people.
- 11:04If someone identified with mastery, they stop growing.
- 11:11My Saturn, Jupiter, opposition prevents all three.
- 11:15This same principle applies to any opposition in the chart.
- 11:19Some of y' all listening?
- 11:20Got oppositions in your chart.
- 11:22The tension isn't a flaw.
- 11:24It's the mechanism.
- 11:26Both sides are true from different perspectives.
- 11:30Integration means holding both without collapsing into either.
- 11:34The external experience mirrors internal reality.
- 11:39What you see out there is showing you something that's going on in here.
- 11:45The opposition asks, you know, I had a question.
- 11:50Can you hold both truths simultaneously without needing to choose one over the other?
- 11:58Here's something important you really must understand.
- 12:03You could read about oppositions for years.
- 12:07You can know all the key words.
- 12:10You can memorize the textbook definitions.
- 12:14But understanding Happens differently.
- 12:17Understanding happens when you recognize the pattern in your actual life, when the geometry becomes visible in your experience, when you stop reading about the aspect and start seeing the aspect in motion.
- 12:34Now, to be truthful with y', all, I've been studying astrology for years now.
- 12:43I've known I had a Saturn, Jupiter opposition across my first and seventh house.
- 12:50I've read the key words, tension between restriction and expansion, self versus others, internal experience versus external perception, humility versus wisdom.
- 13:04But it wasn't till I experienced a pattern repeatedly.
- 13:09People calling me a master astrologer and me cringing AI calling my podcast a masterclass and me asking why the contrast, the constant tension between how I feel internally and how others perceive me externally, that I understood what the
- 13:30opposition actually means.
- 13:32Not as key words, as architecture, as lived experience, as the geometry of my life.
- 13:43There's a gap between knowing astrology, information, keywords, definitions, and understanding your chart, recognition, integration, lived meaning.
- 13:58That gap is normal.
- 14:01It's not failure.
- 14:03It's all part of the process.
- 14:05You might be studying something for years before you suddenly see it in your real life.
- 14:11And when you do, it just hits differently.
- 14:15It lands deeper.
- 14:17It becomes real in a way that keywords never could.
- 14:21That's what happened with this opposition.
- 14:24I just didn't learn what it means.
- 14:27I recognized myself in it in a way that made the architecture visible.
- 14:34My path is self taught.
- 14:37Here's something else that made the opposition click into place for me and y'.
- 14:43All.
- 14:43This just happened two days ago, y'.
- 14:45All.
- 14:46A few days ago, I'm a self taught astrologer.
- 14:51I took one beginner self taught class where they gave you the material, you go through it yourself.
- 14:59No mentors, no teachers, no formal lineage.
- 15:03Shout out to Deborah Silverman.
- 15:05She's a good astrologer, y'.
- 15:07All.
- 15:08After that, I just kept reading books, listening to podcasts, having conversations about charts with people, had thousands of those conversations with anybody who was willing to talk to me about they chart.
- 15:24Then I started a blog.
- 15:27That blog turned into this podcast because really I had no one to talk to about astrology.
- 15:36No one around me understood what the fuck I was talking about, y'.
- 15:40All.
- 15:42So I started talking into this microphone instead.
- 15:46It felt like I was broadcasted from the planet of the apes.
- 15:52And for years I measured myself against what I thought a master astrologer should be.
- 16:00Someone with formal training, mentors, credentials, a lineage.
- 16:07Someone who earned the title the right way.
- 16:10But then I learned something that shifted everything again.
- 16:15A couple of days ago, most of the astrologers people Consider masters were also self taught too.
- 16:24Huh?
- 16:25What?
- 16:26Say it ain't so.
- 16:28Robert Hand self taught, started in the 1960s when there were no schools, had to reconstruct ancient astrology from Latin texts.
- 16:39Liz Green self taught, integrated Jungian psychology into astrology on her own because no one was teaching that synthesis.
- 16:50Stephen Forrest, self taught, created evolutionary astrology by synthesizing what he observed in charts.
- 16:58Demetra George, self taught, learned ancient Greek to translate Hellenistic text that hadn't been available in English.
- 17:09Guess what y'?
- 17:10All?
- 17:11I got two books on my shelf from Robert Hand, a book from Liz Green on myself, about three Forrest Stephen Forrest books.
- 17:22I got three Demetrius George books, a workbook from her and a book from her student shout out to Chris Brennan.
- 17:35The ones I've learned from were written by people who did exactly what I did.
- 17:42They read everything, synthesized everything, talked through charts with anyone who would listen and built their own frameworks.
- 17:52They weren't handed a system, they built a system.
- 17:56And I've been learning from them by doing the same thing.
- 18:01Reading from multiple schools, Hellenistic, modern, evolutionary, synthesizing across traditions and developing my own standards, my own understanding, bringing in tarot, numerology.
- 18:19The people whose books taught me were also self taught.
- 18:23I'm not outside the lineage I'm continuing.
- 18:28But to be honest, that realization, it still don't make me feel like no master.
- 18:36But it did help me understand why others might perceive me that way.
- 18:41And why my Saturn in the first house would resist that label even when it's externally accurate.
- 18:48The integration, for me, that's the difference between learning astrology and understanding astrology.
- 18:56And that recognition, that understanding, that's what I want for you.
- 19:03With your own chart.
- 19:04The opposition serves to get you to know the projections are coming from within.
- 19:11The external events are just a mirror for the internal.
- 19:16Are you blaming others or are you accepting your reflection?
