- 0:13SPEAKER_01: I guess I've been looking for you.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: I guess I've been looking for you.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Brewing Better Marriages from T South Dakota with Philip and Debbie Sanders.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: If these podcasts have been a help to you, pass it on to others and let us know with an email and also include any questions you might have on the subjects that we cover.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: A word that you will hear often is honorable, which means Honored, esteemed, precious, costly.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: And the reason we're so we're being so repetitive with this is we're trying to combat the spirit of our age, a non-committal attitude.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: We want you to make a commitment in your marriage.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: In past podcasts, we have discussed having a marriage God's way.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: That includes a responsibility.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: It also includes romance, and then if you'll do it God's way, it brings a reward.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: And then we talked about a relationship God's way.
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: We talked about communicate, cultivate, and companionship.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: But today we want to talk about having a home God's way.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And the first thing that we say where that's concerned is morality.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Now, this isn't the opposite of immorality only.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: But morality involves many things.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: So what does 1 Timothy 4 and 12 say, Hun?
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: Let no man despise thy youth.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Be thou an example of the believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: So therefore, he gives us a directive on just keeping good principles in our home of morality.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Morality must be first formed in the home.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: You know, hun, when we had the daycare center, we we had a training that told us that the frontal lobe of the brain is the last to develop.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And that is the moral lobe.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: That is where all of your moral principles come through.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Matter of fact, the world knows this.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Go rent a car.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Guys, gals, you have to be at least 25 to rent a car, or you did.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I think it's still that way.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Because the world says that you have finally come to a place that you're grown up or you have become moral.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Who is it that should teach these moral principles?
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: It should be the parents, and personally, I believe even the pastor in the church.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: It should be the one that sets these boundaries for them.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: What are some of the boundaries that the women are to teach, hon?
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Titus 2, 3 to 5 says that they should teach the younger women to keep their husband and keep their children and keep their home.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: So do you want to define those any or keeping the husband?
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: You want to keep them so he wants to come home.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: And the children.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: They're happy at home.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: What makes them happy?
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Keep 'em clean.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Well, that's part of it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, even after a rainy day outside in the mud.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Keep 'em happy and fed.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: Taken care of properly.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, uh uh I think sometimes we feel like if we keep 'em going to every ball game that goes on and every extracurricular activity outside of the home.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Youth camps, camp meetings, etc.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: That's what's important.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: But what's important is what are you teaching them at home?
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: What kind of example are you setting for them at home?
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: You can't just leave it up to the pastor.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: You can't just leave it up to the Sunday school superintendent.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: You have to be involved in your children.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: And we'll deal with that in another podcast in the future.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Morality also consists of honesty, truth, protocol, which is your conduct.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: It can be church attendance.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: Um that teaches us uh to be consistent and the things that we need to learn in the house of God.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Can I interrupt you here for just a minute and tell you that um protocol I use as a definition, uh, there's a young man that was in our church, and uh we took a a missions trip to the Philippines, and uh Brian Jones uh attended with us.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Well, he'd get up in the morning and he'd iron his underwear and he'd iron his socks, and wasn't long until the Sanders clan kicked into their, you know, jabs with him.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: What does that have to do with he was in the Navy.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: And uh what does that have to do with winning a war?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And he says, nothing, but that is protocol.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: They taught them to discipline themselves so that they would be ready at any moment.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: And that's protocol with morality.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: It's just defining these things so that at any given moment we're ready to do what's needed to be done.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Whether it's opening the door for an elderly person or it's helping someone uh with a task that they're ha they have to do, or picking up trash laying on the ground.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: It's just things that are just part of good moral ethics.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: You know, since we've moved to T, um I'm an outdoorsy type guy, and sometimes to be cooped up in this apartment I'm not saying with you is a bothersome, but uh I get out and do some walking, and many times I'll make three or four laps around this whole block of this apartment, and sometimes I'll take my little grabber and a five-gallon bucket and I'll just pick up trash.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: I've had more than one person say, Why do you want to do that?
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: You're not paid to do that.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Well, it's because it's protocol in my life.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: It's because I I I don't like seeing uh where I live look trashy, and so I pick it up.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I I capitalize on the playgrounds where the kids are.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: But that's what you need to develop in your children and in your life is have some protocol to just do the right things.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Um Greg Tinsley, I heard him telling one time about his father that he'd come home and um his they were pastoring in Seabury, Kentucky, and uh Greg had been just slipping around smoking a little bit.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: And um but the greatest thing that he said was that his dad one day came home, I think it was a telecaster that he'd bought for him.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: He was wanting to play the guitar, and he is an accomplished guitarist.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: But Greg said he bought that, and the first thing they did was go into the church there at Seabury, lay it on the altar, and dedicate it to God.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Well, he was playing in a large venue in Texas, and one of the owners of that venue, very popular man, came by and in a drunken stupor, the way I remember this story, had asked him to play uh When the Saints Go Marching In or Amazing Grace, one of those songs that are very popular in the church.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: And he said, No, I can't do that.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: And uh he said, I'm paying your bill.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: You will do that.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: And he said, I just reached around, started unplugging all of my instruments and and amplifier and took them out and put them in the in the bus.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Because he had a protocol that was placed in his life as a child.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: What kind of protocols are you placing in your children?
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Um, Deb, what kind of protocols did you place in your children?
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Well, I'd hope that I I've give left an example of this is Sunday and uh we're going to the house of God.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: Uh this is revival, and you know, they know there's not whether I'm am I going or not, they w they knew they were going.
- 8:13SPEAKER_02: Um whether it was church attendance or what honesty, truth, telling the truth.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: You know, uh hey, you know, uh kids will be kids, and there's times when you're gonna you're gonna catch them, and but you need to deal with it.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: You need to uh set it straight and and we get into that when we talk about children, but we need to be an example and to establish it.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: When we go home to faith and it comes time for offerings and uh tithing offerings, who's the ones that are coming around begging us for offering?
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Our grandkids.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: Because the protocol was put in their life that this is what we do when we come to church.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: When we sing, everybody sings.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: When we pray, everybody prays.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: And when the preacher's preaching, I this is age appropriate, of course, but everybody's listening.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: And there's some of the biggest ameners.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: We went to revival recently, brother Ben Benfield's son.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I'm telling you what, he was one of the biggest backers and ameners, and I don't remember his age.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Little one and six-year-old.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Six-year-old was right up there almost to the platform with his dad while he's preaching.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Because parents had instilled a protocol in him that this is what we do when we come to church.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: We don't sit around, chew gum.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, did I just say that?
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Um You know, I really believe the devil invented gum, and the reason I believe that is what it makes you want to do when you step in it.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's enough.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: I veered off just there a little bit.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: But we don't just come to church to see buddies and to goof off and sit on the back seat.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Did we sit them on did our kids sit on the back seat?
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Remember, they sat in front of us or beside us at all times.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: I wanted to be able to see where they were at and what they were doing.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: And they can't get in if they're in the back row carrying on.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: So this is this is all part of protocol.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: This is all part of you instilling principles in your children, uh moral principles that are there.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Hey, listen, it's about time again, so I just want to tell you that uh we appreciate you listening in and uh send us an email, will you?
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Sandersministries at gmail.com.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Not only that, but check out our website.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: It's sanders ministries.org.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks for listening in.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Appreciate it greatly.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: God bless you.
