[upbeat rock music] It's that bouncy intro song again.
• 0:17
Yeah, it's almost Mötley Crüe. I just watched the Dirt. You just- Yeah, yeah, yeah. I feel like I didn't know Mötley Crüe at all. I, I've been- Whatever... it's been recommended to me, but, uh- Whatever...
• 0:29
haven't gotten to it yet. Totally not gonna watch that. It's- It's a Full Spectrum Cycling Podcast mandatory [laughs] issue. Nah. It's just a blather and yeah. By the way, folks, it is the Full Spectrum Cycling Podcast.
• 0:45
You got, uh, JK over there. Yeah, hijacking the- With the- With, with, with- Like, you know what-... with the dirt... is really on my mind? [laughs] Yeah, some dirt. Got, uh, T-Burger across the way. Yo.
• 0:57
Sven on this side of the table. Hey, that, uh, theme song's still going. Oh, it just ended. Nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know. Actually- It just, it kinda reminds me of, I don't know, the... I don't know...
• 1:08
I, I, it wa- That era. That era... I see it, I see it advertised on Netflix, and then I'm usually onto something else and have not, haven't watched it yet. Yeah, it's worth a thing.
• 1:19
I'd rather do, like, the Johnny Ramone tribute from the- Oh, of course. Of course... fifth, fifth time or whatever. [laughs] Of course, you know. It was trying to go to sleep time. Don't worry.
• 1:27
It was trying to go to sleep time. You know, I'm like, you know, like, yeah, I got a lot of it. You know, ooh, yeah, yeah. I already know it. It's a biopic. Bio- It sounds like it's biohazard. Oh, no.
• 1:41
[laughs] No, that- Sounds like it's bio- No, that only-... horrible. [laughs] Yeah. Well, yeah, that... No, biohazard, and then it ended up with, uh, porn, 'cause, uh,
• 1:48
the dude ended up mirroring, uh, porn star Asia Carrera. All right. Yeah, yeah. Now you know. I got to... Now I gotta- [laughs] And on to things a little more- Terrestrial?... bikey? [laughs] No.
• 2:00
How about first, uh, a weather report? How about that weather? Spring has sprung. It's pretty evident by the fact that the door has opened and closed on several times during the day, so. Amen.
• 2:13
You know, the folks come out. They come out of the woodwork, and, uh, I think we had six repairs through here in the last day or two. Woo-hoo. Right on.
• 2:23
People are starting to get the clue, and, uh, slowly but surely, I'm sure we'll get, uh, backed up by next show. But, uh- That didn't come out right, but- Backed up... yeah.
• 2:35
[laughs] But, yeah, speaking of- Still saying, "Uh, yeah"... speaking of backed up, what kind of sausage did Tony bring here? [laughs] Landjaeger. Landjaeger. It's from Helds.
• 2:43
Yeah, this was promised last show, so- When you, when you see-... here they are... when you see the billboards going up north there, hey- Leave your credit card in the car... make, make... [laughs] Bill cash only.
• 2:55
I'm, I'm- Have an allowance... a little embarrassed to say how much it cost me once, 'cause I was like- Have an allowance... I was very hungry, and, and, yeah, it was the wife and kid were with me, and,
• 3:04
yeah, it was, it was a hefty bill. But- Well, everybody's chewing now, so- [laughs]... just, uh, stand by. Just chewing cud. Welcome to the Cud Chewing Podcast. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, this is like fireplace for your home.
• 3:21
I think I'm gonna change the name of the show to the, to Bike Snob Podcast because- [laughs] Or Snort...
• 3:27
it's, I'm always amazed at what people ride, what they bring in here, and they're like, "Uh, can you make this work again?" It's like, "Yeah, I guess." It's, but why? Why would you wanna ride it in the first place?
• 3:38
Oh, I feel bad. Sure. Not that bad, though. So you feel like a doctor-ish? Yeah, kind of. So you have to have some sort of bedside manner or- Yeah, there you go... I don't know.
• 3:49
There's only, you know, two kinds of humans. There's about seven million kinds of bikes, so, you know, I mean, humans are pretty much put together the same way. This is the old, uh- No-...
• 3:57
auto mechanic, we, how, how much we have to know versus a real human doctor. Ah, yeah. You ever see that? Like, the medical journals are, or the books you read are, you know, maybe a three-by-three cube.
• 4:08
If you have all the automobiles you work on, it's like- It's like-... your whole shop full of books. Right. Of course, I don't know. Like that shop that's, uh, off of Holton? Oh, yeah.
• 4:18
The old- Where it's like the full front to back with books. That would be a good home for Everyday Cycles one of these days. Yeah, that- I love that building... that's a, uh, friction fire waiting to happen.
• 4:26
That- [laughs] Surprised it hasn't happened already. I know. That's one of my, my like... I, that's my likey route going that way- Mm-hmm... because it's very, um, uncar-ish. I totally agree with that. Un- uncary.
• 4:40
[laughs] So, uh, yeah, one of the, one of the bikes we, that isn't a piece of crap- [laughs]... that we got to mess around with was the resurrection of the very first fat bike frame that Schlick Cycles ever built.
• 4:54
Dun, dun, dun-dunooov. Something like eight or nine years ago. It's been a long time. It's, I think it's at least eight, eight or nine years. Yeah. I was trying to think of it the other day. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
• 5:02
Uh, Tony resurrected Fat Burger with, um, a nice, a nice set of, uh- It's, it's too good to be-... el-... it's too good to be 2.0- Yeah... so Dave decided it's gonna be 6.0. I saw that. Yeah.
• 5:16
It's- Maybe it should've been 8.0 'cause it's got the Alfine eight-speed internally- Uh, it is now officially-... geared... 8.0. Yeah, eight, eight gears. Yes. 16. Eight i- internal.
• 5:24
Well, yeah, plus the two in the front. Yeah. It's nutsy. Yeah. I think it turned out beauty. It climbs like a billy goat. Probably ought to have a picture of that in the old show notes, eh? Or a Willy, or a Willy.
• 5:35
Sh- Yeah. Sha. Sha. Willie Goat. I got 100 points from Willie Goat today, or no. Yeah. I think, I forgot how many coins. I gave away 100 of them, and I got a bunch. Old Willie Goat was generous today. All right.
• 5:49
Trailer Park Boys. Tr- Greasy money. Yeah, folks. Greasy money, if you're not addicted to it, don't start because- It's amazing. [laughs] It bleeds into conversations- Hey... like now. There- [laughs]
• 6:00
And, and now there's a new animated Trailer Park Boys, which I have not- There's gonna be-... caught yet Next, this coming weekend starts at, uh, about 4:00 tomorrow afternoon, Thursday. Oh, boy. Wrestling Part Two? Yes.
• 6:14
Excellent. Oh, boy. Oh. I'm- I'm a billboard... yeah, I almost made it, I almost maxed out on the last wrestling. I was surprised. We, uh, since the last podcast, we did a couple of rides, too. Did some riding. Yeah.
• 6:30
We're gonna go see Owen. He's in a band. [laughs] But he wasn't there. I like to, I, I, I like to call him No-wen now. [laughs] Exactly, No. No, that was- In person... no, he, yeah, he came down with the plague, and eh.
• 6:46
You know. He had a, yeah. He had a, he had a- We, we got a nice bike ride in... yeah, yeah, call it... it was a beautiful day. Oh, yeah, it was fun time, man. You know? It was great. We haven't talked about this before.
• 6:54
[laughs] No. I got to ride Bass Boat. Highly recommend you come in and, and give the old Bass Boat purple bike a ride. She's lots of fun. Yep. Made my daughter ride it, put the seat down. She had a blast.
• 7:06
[laughs] I told her it only had one b- brake and she freaked for, like, two seconds. [laughs] I'm like, "You don't use a front brake, honey. You know?" Yeah. We're riding the Scardinas- Unless you have to... to get ham.
• 7:16
Ham. You know. So, um- I want all the ham... I guess if, uh, folks come and visit Milwaukee, because I think when we were at the Owen No-wen show, um, it's at an old church on the Pabst Brewery campus there.
• 7:33
Yep. And, um, amongst those other buildings that were Pabst at one point, which is a big Milwaukee history thing from the 1840s on,
• 7:42
there are now at least four other rooms and a bar, and you can rent it for your wedding or your work party, and, um- Bar mitzvah... yeah, Jim Hurdle, the owner, it, put, he does a great tour
• 7:56
with a bunch of beer history and Pabst history and just beer history in general from Milwaukee. And- Yep... I highly recommend you find folk from out of town, make sure you do that.
• 8:07
Um, an interesting date- And in town, and in town... yeah, even in town... I mean, I have to go on it for, I haven't been on one for a year or so. Well, do one when Scott's doing it- I'm due... instead of Jim, though.
• 8:17
Jim's good- Eh... for out-of-towners. When you know the guy so well, I mean, come on, you gotta- I know, I know. I, well, no, you- I can't help but heckle and then-... you just figure out the flavor of each.
• 8:23
[laughs] Yeah. Um- It's like, no, I'm not gonna heckle, eh... so a good time, you know, a good weekend. Here's a good weekend idea, uh, for the Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee coming up in June 15, 16, whatever it is.
• 8:37
Uh- That's right, Turtle, did that happen? It's, it starts at- Ooh... this same sou- sta- same establishment, Best Place on Juneau there in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It's a fine establishment.
• 8:47
So, you could come the day before, do a tour, or stay a day later and do a tour, and then do a Fat Tire Tour, and then tour again or, you know, that kinda thing. That will be a fun, that'd be a fun weekend.
• 9:00
What else did we do ride-wise? We rode some, rode some. Hmm. What did we miss? [laughs] I don't know. I ride- Random Saturdays. Yeah, random, random city rides lately. Yeah. So,
• 9:13
um- It's like, wait, oh, yeah, yeah, oh, oh, yeah, go downtown. Oh, yeah, yeah, let's take this alley, alley, uh, uh. Let's cross this bridge.
• 9:21
On a slightly more organized note, coming up this weekend, which would be tomorrow, if you're listening to this on Friday, uh, the Hank Aaron Inaugural Ride is the... Is that this Saturday?
• 9:33
I think it's this Saturday, the 4th. Yeah. No. I dunno. I dunno. It's coming up. And that would be the Hank Aaron Trail out to 124th and back. Oh, like through the little tunnel- Through the valley, yeah... tunnel thing.
• 9:48
Exactly. And that's, like, kinda open, but not open-open. Like, you could ride it, but... Yeah, under the freeway and through- Yeah... the woods to grandmother's house and whatnot. By the zoo and some weirdness- Yeah...
• 10:03
like that. There's a Facebook event for it. I'll, I'll- Yeah... make sure we got the right date. [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] So- It's that just, like, self-Googling nonsense that we're trying to...
• 10:13
[laughs] Yeah, I think it's over here. Yeah, it's, it's sometime. [laughs] Hmm. In, in, oh, no, it's not this week. It's May 4th. May the 4th be with you? Yeah, I guess so. [imitates light saber] So, forget that, folks.
• 10:30
[laughs] It's, it's- Rewind... it's in May. Push it back. It's in May. Push that back. Still, I, I would still say it's a good thing to do.
• 10:37
So, that means that the other thing planned on this weekend is a, a recon ride up to Port Washington to see how the beach is doing in advance of the Funduro coming up on the 28th.
• 10:50
Now, I know that date's correct, dang old 28th, man. Right on, right on. That's a- I, I, I-... pretty good event. I think there's gonna be an awful lot of people there.
• 10:58
Yeah, Zito stopped by today, and we were kicking around a bunch of different, uh, fun events for you cycling types. There'll be sweet jumps. There might be sweet jumps. There'll be, you know,
• 11:09
skid contests on signs and bucket ball and all sorts of funky track-oriented silliness. Did you know this gentleman? Mm, recognize, do you not know. Yeah. Apparently, he was one of the guys- The Crusher?...
• 11:24
that's like, uh, he was big in the Art Trail. He did a lot of the art in the Art Trail. Right, right. That's where I've seen him. He passed away. Bummer. Ah. Yeah.
• 11:33
The Art Trail, by the way, is on whatever inaugural Hank Aaron Day ride that we decide to do. It's not officially on, but- Yeah, it's not officially- But-... but it's way more fun. Yeah.
• 11:42
Art Trail's an interesting little- Detour... inside the city detour that's a dirt trail with a bunch of actual art on it. Which, which reminds me, the last time I did that was with you guys- [laughs]...
• 11:54
on the Trek 400 with a single brake lever actuating two brakes, and I cannot believe I didn't die. But that wasn't the same time you had the Santa on the back and did that trail, was it?
• 12:04
No, that was, uh, I mean- That was the most impressive. [laughs] I was like- I can't believe that made it either...
• 12:08
I was questioning, I'm, I'm like, "I can't, I don't know if I- And then I saw you go and I'm like, "Okay." [laughs] Not to mention it was, it was an antique plastic Santa- Oh...
• 12:17
and it had, like, a half a dozen various beer bottles and cans in it- Thanks, Luds... that I didn't know about- And me... until, yeah. [laughs] Until I'm riding through there and it's jiggling.
• 12:28
[laughs] I'm like, "What's all that noise?" Oh, yeah. When you were at the sale downtown. Yeah. Like, "I'm not stopping till I get home." [laughs] That was pretty bad. [laughs] No, we're gonna stop here. I, I'm not, uh-
• 12:42
No, I'm not [laughs] I'm not getting Santa out again for another Santa rampage for a while till I'm an adult. [laughs] Yeah, I don't know. Santa rampage isn't what it was in those days anyway, so.
• 12:53
Yeah, it's, it's different, but- Still a rampage, but not a co- Yeah, I, actually- Not a cohesive rampage... yeah, I, uh, the other bike fed me at a family event. I, uh, I stopped at a,
• 13:05
first time at, uh, Oscar's Winner Circle. What'd you think? Liked it. And it's like I want the time machine where, hey, the Santa rampage is going. It's overflowing over there. Boom. Hey, come over to Oscar's.
• 13:21
That's what I did last year. Yeah, me too. [laughs] And I'm just like, damn. I'm like, man. I hear that that, uh, speaking of Oscar's Winner Circle, Tuesday nights now are dollar tacos- Yeah, so it's-...
• 13:31
and $3 Mexican beers Fine restaurant in Milwaukee there, folks. Yeah. Kind of a Milwaukee thing today. Yeah. Here on the old Full Spectrum Cycling podcast.
• 13:40
We're even drinking- We're being a little myopic, but We're even drinking- Yes... this fake Milwaukee beer. Wait a second. What [laughs] kind of beer is this? Oh, this is courtesy of Jeffrey King. Hey, Jeff King.
• 13:51
Thank you, Jeff King. Jeff, uh, got donated a bike from Dave. Everything for Jeff King.
• 13:58
So we slapped some better tires on it and a couple other things, but, uh, he's been looking for a bike for a while and is not super interested in spending a bunch of money on one.
• 14:07
And Dave bought this particular Trek 800, I think it is, for the green water bottle cages [laughs] 'Cause he wanted them, and then he donated the bike over to, uh, over to- [laughs] Yeah, to the-... Jeff King...
• 14:21
to Jeff H. But Jeff brought us a 30-pack of the old [laughs] Miller High Life, so. Yeah, there you go. Yeah. Yeah. Tip your wrench. It's not bad with a Lone Jagger. [laughs] True that, yeah.
• 14:30
This has got some staying power, this, this sausage-y device thing. Mm. [burps] Mine. And will we have a pause now again while we chew our cud? [chews] [laughs] Wow.
• 14:46
That was, you know, in case you couldn't guess, that was Jakey. In stereo. It was sad. All, all up in your ears. Mm. Oh, yeah, sell that. [laughs] So, uh, back to the old, uh, Funduro.
• 15:01
This is not necessarily a fat bike event, but it sure would be the right bike to have at it. Mm-hmm. Fatbike.com. Yeah. I'm entertaining the, uh, Sunday sleepover. Staying over on Sunday night? Yeah.
• 15:16
Yeah, the event's on a Sunday, right? Yeah. Correct. April 28th, high noon. Lake Park- I had the i-... Port Washington event itself... I had the idea of, like, riding out. Yeah.
• 15:28
That's not the most horrible idea in the world. No, it's not, but it's ambitious. [laughs] Well, if you're- Riding your fat bike to Port Washington? Yeah. Yeah. That's only 25 miles. It can be done. It has been done.
• 15:39
I did it. I've done it, but it's... Then you're gonna drive- But- And then play... yeah. Yeah. [laughs] That's the thing, it's- And then sleep- No, I, no-... and then ride home the next day? No, the last time- Yeah...
• 15:47
I did it, I got there and was like, "Ooh, hey, I want to whip jets right there." Yeah. No, I don't, I don't. Well, there will be- But then I would go a day earlier... there will be at least one or- Oh...
• 16:00
two beach rides on that day, depending on the condition of the beach, which is why the recon ride on Sunday to see what kind of condition it's in after the winter- Yeah... ice and snow and ice and snow.
• 16:12
'Cause we come from the land of the ice and snow. Yeah. Midnight sun and all. [sniffs] Yeah. So yeah, come to that thing. That's, uh, fatbike.com, Everyday Cycles, iIn Cyclery. I, there's a whole slew of new sponsors.
• 16:29
There's gonna be- Zuzu Pedals... demo... Yeah, Zuzu Pedals. It's a shop in Port. Uh, Wyatt Bicycles is gonna bring some demo fat bikes. Yeah, the LA Cross. Yeah. Yep, from LA [laughs] LA Cross. La- La Cross... Cross. Oh.
• 16:44
Well, Wyatt's in La Cross with Donson. Did he re- recently- No, I, I, I was out there a couple years ago and- He's bringing some bikes to-... and what do you-... demo, I guess... yeah.
• 16:53
Yeah, he's got a, yeah, he brings a truck with a cool... It's got, like, six, like a rack for, like, six fat bikes. [imitates locking] Nice. [laughs] It was impressive. I was like, shit.
• 17:05
If you own a fat bike company, you probably should have a truck that can carry fat bikes. Yep. Just saying. It wouldn't- Yep. Yep. Yeah. If people need to borrow a bike, let me know here at Everyday Cycles.
• 17:14
I've got a couple for loaners to, for this event. They'll become rentals after this event, though, so [laughs] How big? Uh, we'll see what we get built by then.
• 17:25
I've got a small and a large, and then my si- I have a s- a few mediums, which are my size, so middle, middle size, five, nine-ish people. I'm putting the pinch on my neighbor, Sean, to come. Put the pinch on him.
• 17:37
Oh, he needs an extra large, doesn't he? Well, he can- [laughs]... for a day he can get away with a large. Yeah, probably.
• 17:43
With, uh, Penn Cycle up there in Minneapolis changing names over to, uh, Freewheel, I don't know how the whole thing happened, but all Penns are now Freewheels. Mm.
• 17:53
And, uh, our friends over at Dream Bikes received a nice bunch of donations, and in those donations were a couple of fat bike wheel sets, which I am going to repurpose into these rental bikes. Nice. 907s. Interesting.
• 18:09
You know what else is interesting? You know, in that pile of stuff, what Russell got back?
• 18:13
Still a, still- I have partial case full of Northpaw rims from the old [laughs] days when they were buying a bun- They, they were one of the best,
• 18:21
um, purchasers and sellers of Northpaw rims when that was the, the only real lightweight fat bike rim option. And, uh, those might come back home to roost, like it or not. [laughs] Well, yeah, really.
• 18:34
[laughs] Those are the symmetrical ones, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yep. The, the 50 m- The ones we use on the, on the trail bikes now, the 50 millimeter rim. So that'd be kinda fun. I don't know if they're black or
• 18:49
gun metal or what. Mm-hmm. That's pretty sick. So yeah, what else we got? What else we got? Anything else on this thing? Dang old, uh- I don't know.
• 18:57
Oh, you know what's coming up, really is coming up this weekend, not May 4th? We'd be with you. No. Is the big Bike Expo over there to the- Yeah... State Fair Park. Yeah, the Wheels and Sprockets. Yeah.
• 19:07
It's a, it's a, it's the local big, big bike shop, and they do a big, big deal over there to the State Fair Park. You know, fun fact about that, right? No.
• 19:18
That all the Kegel kids now live in beautiful River West, Wisconsin. Well, that is a fun fact. Yeah. [laughs] Uh, they saw the light. I suppose we'll have a Wheel and Sprocket here someday in, uh, River West maybe.
• 19:32
[laughs] Say it, say it ain't so. I mean, they're already sneaking into, uh- Bay View-ish... Bay View area. I wouldn't really call that Bay View, where they're talking about locating. Uh.
• 19:42
But then again, I don't go to Bay View anyway, so it's Bay View after all. It's like Bay View Light. Yeah. Maybe. I dunno. Anyway. [laughs] I don't say, I say- I'm gonna-...
• 19:50
I'm going to Bay View, and last name's Ethicaction... maybe I'll go over there Saturday and see what's going on. There's a thing- No, it, it, it's like behind the, uh, yeah...
• 19:58
there's a bunch of, um, vendors and- What the-... there's a bunch of people that do tours and- It's like, it, it- It's sorta like a sports, travel, and boat show for bikes. Oh, oh yeah, yeah. The expo. Yeah. Hell yeah.
• 20:10
Yeah. I was, like, thinking where the place was. All the bike shops. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah, the expo's a fun walk through. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I always end up with a something. [laughs] That's why I don't go.
• 20:23
It's like, uh- A hat... it's like, I need... Okay, yeah. Tires... I, I, uh, okay, 10 bucks for that light. Yeah, it's okay. That's better than my light. Uh. I actually had a seat that I bought from there
• 20:35
that was pretty pricey back when I was not willing to spend money on bikes, and I still love that seat. It's a- Yeah, they're, yeah... fine product. It, and it's good people watching, man. People watching.
• 20:49
It's- I think it costs five bucks to get in or something, doesn't it? Yeah, that's true. No, it's free. Really? Usually. Well, unless they changed that. Free is why I go. No. Well, maybe we'll roll out there then, eh?
• 20:56
Yeah, it's just, like- Roll out there after we close this here store on Saturday and go look at that place. It's like every, like some people just have, like, the entire, [laughs]
• 21:05
this is everything I need for biking ever. Right. And you're never gonna ride that bike, are you? [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. It's like, I'm like, oh my Lord.
• 21:11
Unfortunately, I think there's, there's a lot of garage queens that come out of that, so. Whoa, whoa. Oh, I, I- I, I-... I used to scour Craigslist, like, like a month to a month and a half after it.
• 21:22
[laughs] Always find, you know, purchased at the Bike Expo, ridden five miles. I'm like, "I'll take that." Yep. That's how I got my Trek Pure for, like, 100 bucks. That, I don't know if it's still the- [laughs] New...
• 21:34
I don't know if it's still the case, but at one point, like, that weekend was a third of their s- I think they did it two weekends in the old days, was like a third of their yearly sales at that one thing. Oh, sure.
• 21:44
I don't know. I'm not, I'm not a big fan of the, the big wheel, but you know, they get a lot of people on bikes, so what the heck? Yeah. Yep. Yeah. More power to you, wheel people. Right-o.
• 21:55
Hey, speaking of wheels, we got a new, uh, we got a new retail partner here at the old Everyday Cycle shop. Yeah. They do something a little different than your average, uh, big box bike store might do.
• 22:05
Um, actually, they got shipped today, so I'll have demo bikes in here by the end of the week. And, um, the cool deal is that y- it's basically a, an on-demand bike.
• 22:18
There's a custom configurator, and you can test ride a bike here, and then decide colors and accessories and tire types and, and mode of, you know, how you want your bike set up.
• 22:31
And in two days, it shows up here ready to ride. Did you by chance get a CR1? I am going to have a CR1 here on, uh, maybe tomorrow even. We'll see. That bike is all kinds of sexy. Roll Bicycles, folks.
• 22:44
Check it out, and if you're in the Milwaukee area, have it delivered to our shop, and it'll be set up and ready to ride.
• 22:50
