- 0:04It is great to see each of you this evening.
- 0:07it was great to see at least nine at Luxahoma on Monday night.
- 0:14It may be that some were there on Tuesday night as well, but I know that at least nine were there Monday night.
- 0:20It was so many.
- 0:21I told Brother Houndsell we need to put our number up on their tote board.
- 0:25So I I'm certainly glad that we were supporting them.
- 0:29They support us.
- 0:31next week we have the opportunity to support Coldwater.
- 0:34We have the opportunity to support Nesbit.
- 0:36I hope that if you're able, that you'll get out and and support them the way that you support other works as well.
- 0:44It is so good to see each one, and it's great to be a member of the Lord's Church.
- 0:50It's great to be able to enjoy fellowship with the saints.
- 0:54It's great to be able to have a common goal, or as we sing with the young people during our youth devotions.
- 1:02To have a common love.
- 1:05Just a wonderful privilege to be able to be in Christ.
- 1:10Colossians 4, 6 tells us, let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
- 1:24Our words are so important.
- 1:26Our words are things with which we can build others up.
- 1:31Or we can tear others down.
- 1:34I was reading the Fulton County Gospel News this morning.
- 1:38It's a publication that comes out of Missouri, um Mammoth Spring, Missouri, and always has some excellent material in it.
- 1:51Well, this uh particular one had an article by Del DeVerne.
- 1:56Del DeVerney is an alumnus of the school who preaches up in Michigan.
- 2:01The subject was don't yuck at someone else's yum.
- 2:07Don't yuck at someone else's yum.
- 2:10Well with a title like that, I've got to figure out what he's talking about.
- 2:14And maybe you've already figured it out or maybe you're thinking the same thing that I was.
- 2:20He mentioned that one of the lessons that children learn is that not everybody likes the same things.
- 2:27One child loves broccoli.
- 2:29Mason is a big broccoli eater.
- 2:32Another cannot stand it.
- 2:34One person enjoys fishing.
- 2:35Another can't imagine anything more boring than sitting beside a lake for hours.
- 2:40Some people enjoy motorcycles.
- 2:42Del DeVerne is one of them.
- 2:44Others gardening.
- 2:45Some love old hymns.
- 2:47Others enjoy listening to bluegrass.
- 2:50Some would rather spend a vacation at the beach while others others would choose a cabin in the woods.
- 2:56We are different.
- 2:58There is nothing wrong with that.
- 3:00Unfortunately, we sometimes develop the habit of criticizing things simply because they do not appeal to us.
- 3:08There is a modern expression that captures the idea well, don't yuck at someone else's yum.
- 3:15In other words, just because something does not mean bring me joy does not mean I need to diminish the joy it brings to someone else.
- 3:24For Christians, this principle goes much deeper.
- 3:27Than simple courtesy.
- 3:29It touches upon Christian liberty, brotherly love, the humility, the proper use of our conscience, and even our influence on others.
- 3:40Now he went on and developed that thought among uh five uh six, six other points, and each of them is excellent.
- 3:49what I might do over the next few times that I deliver a devotional message is develop.
- 3:56uh one of those each time because they're all excellent thoughts.
- 4:01But as we started that article, what we noticed how important the tongue is and how easy it would be to ruin somebody else's joy just because we do not like the same things that
- 4:15those other people do.
- 4:18We need to be constantly, and we do at the congregation here, trying
- 4:23We need to be constantly trying to strengthen our brethren, to encourage them, to build them up.
- 4:32I know that many of us may not necessarily be into the things that our brethren are into, but what we learn to at least talk about some of those things with some level of knowledge
- 4:44so that we can talk to the those about the things they enjoy, uh that's a wonderful thing to do.
- 4:52We need to try to continue to build and nurture those relationships because this is just the the vestibule of heaven, if you will.
- 5:04This is the foyer of heaven.
- 5:08And we have an opportunity to enjoy not only life together here, but life together for eternity.
- 5:15Let's do that by encouraging others.
- 5:18Next time that I speak will probably be building.
- 5:22upon that thought next of the uh invitations that I deliver.
- 5:26But keep that thought in mind.
- 5:28Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt.
- 5:33It may be that you're here and on a different subject matter.
- 5:37You are not yet a member of the Lord's church.
- 5:40That that hope of eternity is not as sound as it can be, as it needs to be.
- 5:47If you're not a member of the Lord's church, you can be added to the church tonight by hearing his word.
- 5:51and believing it, allowing that faith to build uh to motivate action, the actions of repentance, the actions of confessing sin.
- 6:01And then you can submit to the waters of baptism, because there a man dies to sin, Romans chapter six, so that he can come out of that water, a new creature, cleansed, added to the
- 6:14Lord's church, Acts 247.
- 6:17It may be the case that you are a member of the church, but
- 6:20You've not been faithful.
- 6:21Perhaps it's been the case that you've not said things that you ought to say, or maybe you've said things that you ought not to have said.
- 6:30Whatever the case, if if there is something in your life that's of a public nature that needs to be corrected, you can make that right tonight by repenting of that sin and
- 6:41confessing that sin and praying that that sin will be forgiven and having the congregation uh pray with you on that behalf.
- 6:49It may be that the sin was not a public sin.
- 6:52Well, if that's the case, but there is sin separating you from God, take that to God.
- 6:58Repent of it, confess it, and pray for his forgiveness.
- 7:02But if you need to respond to the Lord's invitation tonight, won't you come?
- 7:06As together we stand and sing.
