- 0:09SPEAKER_01: Hi, and welcome to today's episode of Sassin Sips.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: That was ominous.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Okay, this is how it's gonna go today.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Today we're gonna talk about Lost Season 5, Episode 16, The Incident Part 1.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: I'm Lisa, and today I am sipping on a peeroni.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, you're all robotic.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: What about now?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, no, now you're fine.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: And I'm Agnes.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I forgot what I was doing.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And I'm sipping on sassy sips.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: That's why I'll name the drink for today's episode.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Any hot takes from this episode?
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I was so wrong about Jacob.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: What were you wrong about?
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Wait, what refreshed my memory?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: I don't think I didn't think Jacob existed.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Right, right, right.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I was kind of proved wrong that first 30 seconds of the episode.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh, okay.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: So that happened.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Just a little bit.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Just a little bit.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna, I'm gonna follow along to Lost Pedia, and we're gonna go through the flashbacks first.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Um and then we'll go to On Island.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: So the first the episode the episode opens on Jacob.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: And obviously, it it's supposed to be like a long time ago.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: You know, you see him with the loom, and then you see the ship and you're like the statue.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: So see a blonde man dressed in white shirt, black pants, in a stone-columned room, spinning a thread for a tapestry he's weaving, and using a long-bladed knife as a beater.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Outside on the beach, he snares a fish, cooks it on the rocks.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: As he eats, he watches a ship on the horizon, and this is what we will know as the black rock.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Another man approaches him.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: This man is dressed in black, black share gray pants.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: He asks how the ship found the island and accuses the blonde man of having brought it there.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: He declares that one day he will find a loophole which will allow him to kill him.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: And the blonde man appears unperturbed, promising in return, When you do, I'll be right here.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: In the sense that you're like, go ahead, talk your shit.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: So the man in the black shirt says, Always nice talking to you, Jacob, and walks away.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Dun dun dun.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: And then that's when we see the statue, and it's in its entirety.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: The next flashback we see is a tiny little Kate.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: It's 1987, she's 10 years old, and there she is with her friend Tom, and they're gonna steal a lunchbox.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: He's the lookout, she goes to steal it, and then the guy is like, Hey, what are you doing?
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Just to show that you can't trust any man at any age because he sucks as a lookout.
- 3:48unknown: Okay.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: And then Jacob makes Kate promise never to steal again.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: He teasingly touches her nose and tells her to be good.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Okay, Doki.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: In 1976, we are now at a funeral.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: The funeral is for Mr.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: and Mrs.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Ford.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And in case you can't follow along, these are Sawyer's parents.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, kind of figured that out.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Like it's because it's funny because wow, I'm like, oh, that little girl was like Kate.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, they did a really good job with that one.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: So it was easy to figure out what was going on before there was no head, there was no like drama figuring out what the hell was going on.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Uh so this is Sawyer before he was Sawyer.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: So an eight-year-old James Ford looks on as the coffins are loaded onto the hearses.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: He's beginning to write his letter to Anthony Cooper, except his pen doesn't work.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Who approaches him with the pen?
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Jacob.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: I wonder who.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: We also see the uncle approach him and you know, ask like what he's done, and he reads the letter, and the uncle is like, um, you gotta move on.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: He's like, What's done is done.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Promise me you won't finish.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Whoops.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: I've said that a couple of times.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Next, we go to a flashback of Saeed, and this is 2005.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Saeed and Nadia are walking through Los Angeles.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Jacob approaches Said and asks him for directions, mentioning that he's lost.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: Nadia continues across the street where she is hit by a car.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: And then, well, now, you know, we see her death because before this we didn't see, I mean, we were told, but like, you know.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Um Saeed runs to her as the driver drives away, and she lies mortally wounded on the street, and she asks Said in Arabic to take her home.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Sometime prior to 2007, we see Ilana laying in the hospital, and she's in Russia.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: She's heavily bandaged, and a nurse arrives to inform her that someone came to visit her.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: She insists that Ilana should see him as he is the first visitor.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: And who is the visitor?
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, you guessed it, Jacob.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: He apologizes to her in Russian for not visiting earlier.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: In English, he asks her to help him and she says she will.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: In 2000, Jinn and Sun exchange vows at their wedding.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Jinn claims that being separated from his wife would be much like Earth being separated from the sky.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: At the reception, after being congratulated by Sun's aunt, Jacob approaches and says he wants to give them his blessing.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: Touching each one of them on the shoulder with each of his hands, he tells them in Korean that their love is special and not to take it for granted.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: After he leaves, both are perpa uh both are perplexed at exactly who he was, though Jin remarks that his Korean was excellent.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Well, apparent it would it would have to be he's omnipotent, apparently.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: So, you know, mastering language should be easy.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Let's go to the island.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: We are in 1977.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Kate, Juliet, and Sawyer are on the sub leaving the island.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: Kate convinces Juliet and Sawyer that they need to stop Jack from detonating a hydrogen bomb on the island.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: They manage to break free and force the captain to surface, telling him to continue on his course as soon as they leave the submarine.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: When Captain asks what to say if Horace calls, Sawyer is like, um, pow, and shoots the radio.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Don't have to worry about it.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what has he said?
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Like you're not ho telling you not home or something.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: Um, when they arrive back on the island, they are greeted by Vincent the dog.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: And who's been taking care of Vincent?
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Good old Rosen Bernard.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: That was happiest to see them.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: She was like, oh, they found us.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't blame her.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Like these people bring nothing but drama and shit.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: She said that she and Bernard are now retired and they live a quiet life in their cabin near the beach.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Bernard says, all he and Rose care about is being together.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: When he says this, Juliet sees Sawyer look at Kate.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Juliet insists they need to get to the barracks, and Rose points them in the right direction.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: I feel so sorry for Juliet.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: All she wants to do is get back to like normal, get back home, live her life with Sawyer.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Because these three years they were nice.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: And then this shit.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: She totally sympathizes with um Rose.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Like, fuck these motherfuckers again.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Like, nice, easy life.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, in the tunnels under the barracks, Jack and Said dismantle the hydrogen bomb in order to remove its core, which is the crucial explosive.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Richard mentions that Jack knows John and that Richard had met John on three separate occasions and sensed nothing particularly special about him.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Jack tells Richard not to give up on him.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Said explains that he will be able to modify the bomb core so that it will detonate.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Why did I say it like that?
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Saeed.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: Saeed explains that he will be able to modify the bomb core so that it will detonate on impact.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Richard Alpert and Eloise Hawking assist Jack and Saeed in entering the barracks via the basement of Horace and Amy's house.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Eloise is about to enter the basement, but Richard knocks her out because she's pregnant and he doesn't want her traveling with them to detonate the bomb.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: He leaves Saeed and Jack on their own.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of activity outside, so Said dons one of Horace's Dharma jumpsuits in order to blend in.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: However, Roger Linus recognizes them and shoots Saeed in the stomach.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: A gunfight follows, but Jack and Saeed escape with Jin and Miles in a van driven by Hurley.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: They drive toward the construction site of the swan while Jack treats Said's wounds.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: That, like actually, that scene is kind of like the end, but um actually the the episode ends when the van stops.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: And they're like, why'd you stop that van?
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: And they're like, that's why.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: And you see like Sawyer, Kate, and Juliet with the gun, like and Julia still looks like, I don't want to be, I don't want to do, I don't want to be doing this shit.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: She's like, the fuck.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: In 2007, Richard leads Locke, Ben, son, and the others towards the remains of the four-toed statue where Jacob resides.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Locke assigns Ben the task of killing Jacob and provides motivation by reminding Ben of all the bad things that have happened to him.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: On his way, Richard addresses his skepticism to Locke, stating that though the island has done miraculous things, it has never brought someone back to life.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Locke counters that he has never seen a man that never aged.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Until which Richard attributes to Jacob.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Claiming that he wants to thank Jacob, Locke tells Richard that they must also take care of the other Ajira passengers.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: When asked, Locke simply answers, you know what I mean.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: The group stops to take a brief break at the oceanic survivor's old campsite.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Sun sees the crib Locke made for Aaron, and when she turns it over, she finds Charlie's ring.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: As Ben sits in solitude, Loc approaches him and notes the remnant of the hatch door behind them, saying that that's where they first met.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: Locke wants to ask Ben about the day they visited Jacob's cabin.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: Ben admits he lied and that he was talking to an empty chair.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Though he was as much surprised as John when things started to fly around.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: When asked why all that trouble making such things up, Ben responds that he was ashamed he never saw Jacob and didn't want Locke to know about it.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Ben then asks why it must be he who kills Jacob, and Locke reminds Ben of all his misfortunes he had in the name of Jacob, a man he has never met.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: So the question is, Ben, why the hell wouldn't you want to kill Jacob?
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: At the same time, a group of survivors from Ajira Flight 316, including Ilana and Bram, paddle a canoe to the main island, bringing with them Frank Lapitas and a giant metal crate.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: When Frank wakes, they tell him he may be a candidate and could be a friend to them.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: They open the crate and Frank is dismayed by what's inside.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: What's in the box?
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: What's in the box?
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: What's in the box?
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: What do you think is in the box?
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: Um stuff.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: No, you don't get to say that.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Things.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Things.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Oh good lord.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Alright, if you had to seriously one guess, what's in the box?
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: What's in the box?
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: A hydrogen bomb.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: I accept your guess.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: You know, it's not a real guess, but okay.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: As long as you accept it.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: No, I mean it's better than stuff, so I guess.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Not by much.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Because I just not a real guess, but okay.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't be surprised if it's Jacob's um Jacob's body.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: The group travels to Jacob's cabin where they find the ring of ash disturbed.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Ilana enters the cabin and finds it in disarray, deserted, except for a scrap of cloth bearing a picture of the statue.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Ilana tells the others that he isn't there and that someone else has been using it.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: She orders the cabin to be set on fire.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Because that's the smart thing to do in a forest.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: That was the dumbest thing ever.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: But okay.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: Even from TV, like TV logic is still the dumbest shit ever.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Even and even Frank is like, um, um, I don't know if that's a good idea, but I think that's about it for this episode.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Um, we're gonna definitely get the conclusion in the next one.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: And even though you don't wanna be realistic about what's in the box, and no, it's not a dick in the box.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Oh fuck then, I really don't care then.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: Any predictions for the conclusion about like what's gonna happen with the bomb or the whole Jacob, Locke, Ben?
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: None.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: None whatsoever.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, I do predict that Jacob will visit.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: We will see where Jacob visit the rest of the team in the past.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Just a guess though.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know where it's coming from.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Fair.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: And I have this is totally unrelated.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: But I have a game.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's game it.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: As soon as I find it.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: As my daughter says, my twenty-four-year-old daughter says, up your blood.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: I think she's regressing.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Damn it, what the hell?
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: I'm going to I'm going to tell you names, funny names for things, and you're gonna guess what they are.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: And it says, if the person who named Walkie Talkies named everything.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: So what would they be naming if they called it a licky sticky?
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: A lollipop?
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: No, a stamp.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, licky sticky.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, all right.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: Although we don't lick them anymore, but no, that that's why I think it was like 20 years ago, I would have guessed that.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: A hardy starty.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: I is this supposed to be like what is this like weighted X?
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Because you know where my head went straight.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: Heart T.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: H-E-A-R-T Y, not hard D.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Hard T star T.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: No idea.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: A defibrillator.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: A fuzzy buzzy.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: A bee.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Yes, a bee.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: A maybe baby.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: Everybody.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: A maybe baby.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: No idea.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: A pregnancy test.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: A breasty nesty.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: A breasty nesty.
- 19:50unknown: What the fuck?
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Don't over think it.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: A bra.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Stabby grabby.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Me.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: No, um stabby grabby.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Is that a knife?
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: Close.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: A fork.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Feedy.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Feedy heaty.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Feedy heedy.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: Socks.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Floaty bloaty.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: Neomite theory.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: I know it.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: What was it?
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: A floaty bloaty?
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: A lifesaver?
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Life jacket.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Hippo.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Hippopotamus.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: But what was the thing again now?
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: A floaty?
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Floaty bloaty.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: That was a bad one.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: I didn't write them.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: The last one.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Screamy dreamy.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, first of all, all these have little double entangres yet.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: All these are just dirty, and they just want you to think you're.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: Or is it again a screamy?
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: Screamy.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: Screamy, dreamy.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Nightmare.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, a nightmare.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: You didn't do too bad.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: You got like three.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Three.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Ten.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Some of them are so stupid.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: The animal ones that we did were fun.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: This is why we need to record every single one of our conversations.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: Our best conversations are when we're not like recording.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: I should have saved that one that day for the recording.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: But there's still more.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: I'm sure they could find more online.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, probably.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Alright, let's wrap up this episode.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: It was kind of quick because all the extras are gonna be in the next one.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna save them for the next one.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: Ooh.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: So I think this is the first time that we broke up a finale.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: But for uh time purposes, we have to.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: So, anyhow, I know this wasn't a very long episode, but definitely stay tuned for the next one when we wrap up not only the incident, but all of season five.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: And I cannot wait for you to see how this ends.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: And I can wait.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: I'm overwhelmed.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: I'm underwhelmed.
