- 0:17Hello Shipmates. From EFIV AM 1360 Modesto this E
- 0:26afternoon's live trip. All right, well, I'm told that
- 0:30eastbound 120 is just fine now. Did.
- 0:34They add like 6 lanes while we weren't looking.
- 0:37I don't know, but they still haven't reported that the
- 0:39northbound southbound lanes on 99 are open yet.
- 0:41So, so it probably is if 120 is all right.
- 0:44Yes, on southbound, no. OK, because that's below well, I
- 0:49know they're anywhere near the 99 thing.
- 0:51It's looks like it's getting better.
- 0:53Welcome back afternoons live KFIVKWSX.
- 0:56It is a Tuesday episode of the Big Show.
- 0:58It's me. It's Dave, along with John
- 1:00Constine, who brings you the news.
- 1:03Man, is that all I do? Is that all I am to you, Dave?
- 1:07Not all you are to me. Then we have this discussion
- 1:09your your love is like bad medicine.
- 1:11Bad medicine is what I. Be.
- 1:14Fortunately, it's what you require.
- 1:18There's that. I've rebooted, we're still
- 1:20getting the chat, trying to get the chat room up and going, and
- 1:23meantime the text machine is still working. 720 SSBN is that
- 1:26number. The phone lines are open.
- 1:27551-3483 is that number. Toll free 866-770-5556 you can
- 1:37send us an e-mail. Again, I do not recommend this,
- 1:40but you can do it. You send it to
- 1:42dave.diamondshow@clearchannel.com and I promise you that sometime
- 1:45between now and New Year, someone will read.
- 1:48It may not be me, but someone will get to it.
- 1:51Who else has access to the account?
- 1:53I know I don't. Would you like it?
- 1:55Be happy to give it. That might be kind of fun
- 1:58actually, just to go in there and read some of the some of the
- 2:01more colorful emails. Might be entertaining.
- 2:06Normally the chat room would be open, but I'm still fiddling
- 2:09around with trying to get that working.
- 2:10So we're working on it. It's all I can tell you at this
- 2:12point. A loqui cognisio.
- 2:14Stand up. Tell those who oppose liberty.
- 2:17Don't fret on me. Well, I guess I should ask the
- 2:21choir. I mean, welcome back.
- 2:22It's nice to see you. Thank you.
- 2:23It's it's nice to be back. I'm, I'm glad I, I, I've
- 2:27actually got it four days off. It's just too much, really.
- 2:30Oh yeah, yeah. It's especially with everything
- 2:33happening and it's like. It's not for me, dude.
- 2:37It's it's just you get to the point where I'm I'm ready to go
- 2:41back to work. I was ready to go back to work.
- 2:42Yeah. And, and because the NFL playing
- 2:44all their games on Saturday instead of Sunday, that screwed
- 2:48me up. So I was actually ready to come
- 2:49back to work yesterday, Monday, and of course we couldn't
- 2:52because it's a holiday. We.
- 2:55Couldn't you're complaining about the I'm not.
- 2:58Complaining about it, I'm just. It's a little crazy.
- 3:00It's a little backwards, Dave. Just say yesterday it was Boxing
- 3:03Day and I got a text from somebody that said, you know,
- 3:05traditionally on Boxing Day the the folks changed roles.
- 3:09So I would have been the producer and and, and you and
- 3:11Maz could have, well, Maz isn't here, but you could have hosted
- 3:13the show and and I would have done, but I didn't have the
- 3:16heart to tell the guy that texted me that, that, you know,
- 3:19the the humor in Boxing Day is supposed to be that you switch
- 3:22jobs and you just make a complete pig's breakfast of it
- 3:24because nobody knows what they're doing, right?
- 3:27The the problem is is that I cut my teeth doing that.
- 3:30So I I still like to do, I still like producing, I still like
- 3:33engineering, I still like board up and.
- 3:35The other problem is that I would be completely awesome on
- 3:38the other side of this glass. Yes, that's that's what I was
- 3:41really were afraid of. I was afraid that John was just
- 3:43going to come over here and. And just slay, right?
- 3:47No, I was really terrified of that.
- 3:48I really was. You should be.
- 3:51You will. John, do you know who Jerry
- 3:53Brown is? Yes.
- 3:54You know what he did today? What did he do today?
- 3:56See. I was, I was really worried
- 3:58about no, I. I'm sick.
- 4:01I'm in a weakened condition. Oh yay, the sound is working.
- 4:06Oh good, well now we can stop mentioning that every 4 minutes.
- 4:10All right, everybody in the chat room is happy.
- 4:13How was your Christmas? We didn't.
- 4:14How were your holidays? They were totally awesome.
- 4:18For me, Christmas last two days, Christmas Eve is always a really
- 4:22big deal and we all went over to my parents house and played and
- 4:25played games and just laughed hysterically.
- 4:29OK, sorry, update here. They're saying they can't hear
- 4:32you. Really.
- 4:33Are you an audition? Yeah.
- 4:35And program? Yeah.
- 4:37And they still can't hear it. You would think that would
- 4:40improve the show. I I have no idea they get to
- 4:43listen to the cool surgeon. I I hate to do these on air
- 4:46staff meetings but literally the feed to the chat room is taken
- 4:50right off the headphones so if I can hear it.
- 4:53They should be able to hear it, right?
- 4:55I, I don't, I don't, I don't know.
- 4:56I don't get it. Yeah, I don't know.
- 4:59I don't know what's up with that.
- 5:01Oh well. Well, anyway, back to your
- 5:02holidays. IHeartRadio.
- 5:03That's the that's the secret. Listen to it on iHeartRadio.
- 5:06Back to your. Holiday, my holidays were
- 5:08totally awesome. And you know, in a nutshell, I
- 5:10mean, it's as per huge. My family's really cool.
- 5:13So you know, I got to hang out with them and and spend a lot of
- 5:16time with the people that are most important to me.
- 5:20It was a good time. You know, it's funny.
- 5:22I actually wanted to tell this, this story briefly, but this
- 5:25didn't even happen to me. So it's almost my it's it's
- 5:27almost my, like, second hand, third hand recollection of, of
- 5:30events. But a friend of mine kind of
- 5:32woken up on Christmas Eve morning by the Sheriff's
- 5:35Department pounding on her door, saying that they had received an
- 5:39Internet tip of shots fired in her house.
- 5:45Oops. Yeah.
- 5:45And so she like, you know, jumps out of bed, you know, throws on
- 5:48some clothes really quick and opens the door and, and it's
- 5:51like, yeah, everything's fine. And there's like a bunch of cops
- 5:54and a dog. And they're like, yeah, we need
- 5:55to come through and take a look. No, you don't.
- 5:58So they come in and look around the house, you know, make sure
- 6:00everything's OK or whatever. And then they're like, you know,
- 6:02they're all standing out front laughing about it or whatever.
- 6:05And she was saying that she was going to go pick up some
- 6:06doughnuts for her Co workers. And then, you know, they had the
- 6:08the requisite doughnut jokes and then all of a sudden rat a tat
- 6:12tats shots are actually fired from like the house down the
- 6:17street. And they're like, oh, we got to
- 6:18go. Who obviously doesn't look
- 6:20outside and go, yeah, look, there's a bunch of cops out in
- 6:24the front lawn. Right.
- 6:25Yeah, yeah, that's weird. Maybe it was in the backyard and
- 6:28they were like they're they're plinking at cans or something
- 6:30like that. Could very well have been.
- 6:32But that's an exciting way to wake up on Christmas Eve.
- 6:35All I did was go to the mall. On Christmas Eve.
- 6:39Are you insane? And Costco, my dad and I got I
- 6:42got up early, early for me. I didn't even.
- 6:44Actually leave the house on Christmas Eve.
- 6:47Always the goal, do you believe me?
- 6:49Always the goal. Is I did not do that.
- 6:51I took one diaper out to the trash can and that was it.
- 6:54That was my the entirety of my outside the.
- 6:57Extended excursions outside the house?
- 6:59Yeah, that's hilarious. Yeah, well, Costco was chaos,
- 7:03dude. And of course it was like
- 7:0490,000° in there. And of course the whole thing
- 7:08was jammed up because people were buying muffins that didn't
- 7:10have barcodes on them. And anyway.
- 7:12Yeah, it was chaos. It's anarchy.
- 7:14It's a mess out there. Speaking of messes, 99 I'm
- 7:18assuming is fine now because the CHP folks have completely
- 7:21obliterated it from their website.
- 7:23Really, it's gone, so they're just not talking about it at
- 7:25all. It's.
- 7:26Completely gone. Why are you trying to cover up
- 7:28the truth, CHP? So 99 is fine, no problems on 99
- 7:32whatsoever anywhere. Go ahead.
- 7:34According to CHP. It's off their website.
- 7:38What about the chat room, Dave? I mean we can still do updates.
- 7:40They're not hearing you. They're.
- 7:42They'll do updates on the chat room.
- 7:43Figure this whole thing out. Our Christmas was Hanukkah.
- 7:46Christmas has been Hanukkah. Christmas.
- 7:48Hanukkah, Hana Hana Christmas, I don't know.
- 7:51What Christmas? Hana Kwanzaa.
- 7:52Yeah, no, no, Kwanzaa, none of that, none of that stuff.
- 7:56But yeah, we don't, we don't do any of that.
- 7:58But we we've had a lot of fun with candles, although we're,
- 8:01we're out of candles now. Whoa whoa, whoa.
- 8:03Define fun with candles. And now why are you out of them?
- 8:07Ben is Ben is takes. Each menorah needs 44 candles to
- 8:10make it through the entire holiday.
- 8:13Really. Yeah.
- 8:13Yeah. If you do the math on, it's 44
- 8:15candles to get through the whole thing.
- 8:16What? If you had an electric menorah.
- 8:17Then you don't need any candles but.
- 8:19But you did it the real we. Have we have 3 menorahs and I
- 8:22bought 1 box of candles thinking to myself at some point I'll go
- 8:25get more. So we've gone from three
- 8:28menorahs now to one because we just don't have enough candles.
- 8:32To make the rules. Not impressed.
- 8:34I'm I'm hoping my candles will last 8 days and with one menorah
- 8:38we've we've stretched it out so tonight will be the final night
- 8:40of. Is Hanukkah still going?
- 8:43Tonight's the last night, yeah. See This is why the switch
- 8:47because. Yeah, it was all about Hanukkah.
- 8:48Because it's still going. Right, it was it was totally
- 8:50about Hanukkah. I, I, I sat back and went.
- 8:52I need a place that's got a holiday that lasts 8 days
- 8:55instead of 1. Anyway, that Ben really enjoys
- 8:58lighting the watching me like to get That's what you don't
- 9:01actually don't actually hand him candles.
- 9:03It's that's that would be bad. Right.
- 9:05But I I got him for Christmas, something that I've been wanting
- 9:09for a long time to, to no. At least you can admit it, Dave.
- 9:14Tonka trucks, Big Tonka trucks. The full metal ones.
- 9:17I mean the real ones, not the plot.
- 9:18Cheap plastic. Like the ones you can.
- 9:20The ones I had when I was a kid, no, you can't get at them, but
- 9:24you know, they're they're big and dump truck you.
- 9:26Can put a good sized, you know, hunka.
- 9:27Yeah, you can play with these things, and I've been dying for
- 9:29that for years and years and years and years.
- 9:31And finally, here's Ben. Last year he was six months old.
- 9:33He wasn't old enough for Tonka Truck this year, so my wife
- 9:37found me a great deal on some Tonka trucks and bought those
- 9:40and got them all set up. And so I I decided not to wrap
- 9:43them because I wanted him to. I wanted him to come in there
- 9:46Christmas morning and see them and just go excited and.
- 9:49So I you've said that he's into the big.
- 9:53Big construction equipment, trucks, and yeah, we go out
- 9:56every Monday morning and watch the garbage truck pick up the
- 9:58garbage because he just thinks that's the coolest thing in the
- 10:00world. So I'm all excited.
- 10:02You're ready for a bend splosion.
- 10:03I'm ready for that. And so I, I, I got the, I can't
- 10:06really put the video up. I'd like to, but I, I just, I
- 10:09feel bad about doing it because my wife's in her pyjamas and,
- 10:12you know, they, they know how wives get about that kind of
- 10:14stuff. Yeah.
- 10:15Anyway, so I get in there, I've got the video camera all set up.
- 10:17I'm good to go here, here. They come through the kitchen.
- 10:20He gets to the living room, steps down instead we have two
- 10:23steps down into the den area, which is where the Christmas
- 10:25tree is. He looks around, does his I'm
- 10:30sad face and then turns and runs the other way.
- 10:34What? I have no idea why.
- 10:36Whose kid is that runs? Away I got the whole thing on
- 10:39video of him running away and I'm thinking well this is not
- 10:44the reaction I was hoping for, this is not what I was, this is
- 10:48not what I have waited all these years for.
- 10:49Although he is my kid so. That kid is weird dude.
- 10:54He eventually got it figured out.
- 10:56He got the thing. You know what really upsets him
- 10:58now about about these trucks is that he can't get inside them to
- 11:03the steering wheel. Well, yeah, he, he, he.
- 11:08He gets frustrated with the fact that he can't get inside, but
- 11:10other than that he do. You see him trying to pick the
- 11:12door open and stuff, Yeah. He's trying to knock through the
- 11:14window and stuff like that on the, because one of them is a
- 11:17the, the, the, the evacuated, the big bulldozer thing, that
- 11:21the excavator thing. It's got the big dump.
- 11:25And then you pick stuff up with that and you put it in a dump
- 11:27truck and then yeah, yeah, yeah, it's great.
- 11:28But he puts his books in and pushes it around and puts his
- 11:31knee up in the, up in the bed of the dump truck and kind of rides
- 11:34it around a little bit. It's kind of, it's kind of fun.
- 11:36It's a lot of fun. He got a lot of Thomas the Tank
- 11:38stuff. Which is he?
- 11:39He's into Thomas the Tank Engine.
- 11:42As we discussed. Right.
- 11:44But Ed got him a book that makes sounds and one of the sounds it
- 11:48makes is of the one of the engines going tweet, tweet.
- 11:53And we had to take it away. We had.
- 11:56To take it away. From him at one point, 'cause it
- 11:58was like, dude, we're, we're driving here.
- 12:01That's always. What winds up happening?
- 12:02You know, somebody always in invariably will put something in
- 12:05my stocking that makes an A hilariously irritating noise,
- 12:10and that person is shunned for the entire.
- 12:13Rest of Christmas. It's a great book and it's a
- 12:15great little sign, but he just we were we then Sunday we drove
- 12:18down to Fresno for the family Christmas with everybody
- 12:21everybody meeting in the middle in in Fresno and you know I was
- 12:25listening to two hours of that was a little much so but he
- 12:30let's not take. That in the car and then and.
- 12:32Then he got down there and I, I don't know whether to be
- 12:34disappointed or not. This is, you know, it's 18
- 12:36months. The cool part of this is when I
- 12:38was my second Christmas, when I was, I would have been 15 months
- 12:41instead of 18 months. My mother got me a coat that for
- 12:45some reason she hung onto all these years.
- 12:49And so Christmas morning we had, she had given me the coat and
- 12:53Christmas morning, guess what? Ben's wearing the coat.
- 12:55We got pictures of that and sent them to all there.
- 12:57And she's just grandmas, you know, in tears.
- 12:59And but then he gets down there and he won't go anywhere near
- 13:02anybody, really. He does.
- 13:04He just wants to walk around and point the stuff and say pretty
- 13:09pretty happy pretty. He don't want anybody giving him
- 13:13no loving or hugging him or anything like that.
- 13:16So OK. So let me get this straight.
- 13:17So, so far your kid has shunned the presents.
- 13:22Run run screaming from the Christmas room?
- 13:24Yes. Will not speak to anybody.
- 13:28Family wise. And an extended family and just
- 13:31walks around pointing at things yeah, so I'm.
- 13:32Pretty happy, Pretty happy. Better make an make an
- 13:36appointment, Dave. Yeah, well, they're.
- 13:39It was fun, but that was that was kind of our our Christmas
- 13:42weekend. Plus I watched a lot of football
- 13:43obviously on Saturday and. Because that's your jam.
- 13:46Yeah, I tried to. Watch some basketball on Sunday.
- 13:48I I've really, I've really tried to get into that.
- 13:50This whole Chuck Hayes thing in Sacramento's got me a little,
- 13:53little interested going. Maybe I maybe I should get into
- 13:56it again. Maybe I should.
- 13:57Then I just can't. What is it?
- 14:00That turns you off about the NBA.
- 14:03The fact that you only have to watch the last two minutes of
- 14:05the game and and the the Once Upon a time I used to love
- 14:09basketball. Basketball used to be a team
- 14:10sport and and one of my often ridiculed hypothesis is that
- 14:14Michael Jordan ruined basketball because he took.
- 14:16Jordan was he took it from a team sport.
- 14:18To a hey, watch this one guy sport, right?
- 14:21And I hate that. Yeah, that is kind of terrible.
- 14:24You know, you got the jet, you know, and Michael Jordan and
- 14:27Kobe and stuff. LeBron although I do.
- 14:30Like the fact that Kobe got his butt kicked twice and now he's
- 14:33whining. It's quarter after it's after,
- 14:38it's 20 after it's afternoon's live.
- 14:40KFIVKWSX. How was your Christmas?
- 14:42551-3483, 866-770-5556. The chat room is sort of
- 14:49working. We got some sound, but not all
- 14:50of it. But you can join us there as
- 14:52well at kfiv1360.com. We'll be right back.
- 15:04This is dedicated to you this. Is how I felt my whole vacation
- 15:12discoesh. No, I.
- 15:15Missed you like the deserts. Miss the rain?
- 15:19I get it, people are going to start wondering about us.
- 15:26By the way, Samoa welcome back afternoons live KFYBKWS
- 15:31intriguing story that we didn't really get to in the new I mean
- 15:33we talked about it briefly, but Samoa is is a country in the
- 15:37South Pacific. They have decided to I, I don't,
- 15:44I don't really know technically how they're doing this.
- 15:46They're jumping the line. They're.
- 15:47Jumping the line. They're jumping the
- 15:48international date line and they're they're going to
- 15:51celebrate New Year's first. They're going to be the first
- 15:54country, I guess, in the world to celebrate New Year.
- 15:56Somebody needs. To go in there and be like,
- 15:57look, Samoa, no cuts, no butts, no coconuts.
- 16:00So the question. Was well, how far away from the
- 16:02line are they? I mean, because if they're like
- 16:0410 miles from the line, then you know, I can understand they're
- 16:06550 miles from the line, which just seems a bit much to me.
- 16:12That's that's his, you know, that's what a 810 hour drive if
- 16:15you were driving it and it doesn't seem like you should be
- 16:18able to just. Aren't they kind of in the
- 16:21middle of nowhere though? Well, it's the South Atlantic,
- 16:24South Pacific. Sorry.
- 16:25Yeah, but I mean like. I don't know.
- 16:27It seems like it's their business, really.
- 16:29I think it's funny, but I mean, you know, it's not like you can
- 16:33really be like, hey, Samoa, don't do this.
- 16:35Yeah. Well, I guess not.
- 16:38I guess there's no international law that says you can't.
- 16:40You can't just change what time zone you're in.
- 16:44Surely North Korea would have tried by now if they could.
- 16:47They have not. Which one is the?
- 16:48Best one. That's the one we're in all the
- 16:50all the stories. Over the weekend about Kim Jong
- 16:52Un receiving visitors and I guess the United Nations held a
- 16:56moment of silence for Kim, Kim Jong Illinois.
- 16:59Did they and just? It just, it just gets more and
- 17:03more bizarre. That is a little bit weird, but
- 17:07he's. Firmly ensconced in charge.
- 17:09So now I have to kill him too. Look, just because the holidays
- 17:11are over doesn't mean all the sales are ending.

- 18:07That's the other thing that's changed with Christmas of now.
- 18:10What's that? You know it used to be.
- 18:11Growing up as a little kid, it was grandpa with his 8 or 16
- 18:14mil, whatever the heck that thing was 8 mil super 8mm camera
- 18:17that that went, you know, had that little little noise to it
- 18:22that went all the time, right. And the Polaroid flash pictures
- 18:26and then, and then the, the, the, the flash cubes on the
- 18:29other cameras, you know, everybody's taking and then, and
- 18:31then you don't get to see any of this stuff for weeks because
- 18:34then it's kind of good. Now it's everybody's, everybody
- 18:36that every time somebody's opening a present, there's five
- 18:39people with cell phones aimed at it.
- 18:42And I'm doing the same thing because that's my video camera
- 18:44now. I mean, I, I have a video, I
- 18:47have a very old, but works great.
- 18:51It's actually so old that he uses of one of the many
- 18:53videotapes. It's, it's not even a hard drive
- 18:56thing, but video camera. I haven't even, I haven't even
- 18:58charged the thing in in probably three years because now I use my
- 19:01video. I, I use the the cell phone Cam.
- 19:03Yeah. And it's like everybody's
- 19:05sitting there doing that. See.
- 19:06We're not. We're not like a big community
- 19:08family, although my dad did bust out the camera for the sibling
- 19:12hat exchange this year to take a picture of us wearing our
- 19:16respective hats. And the one my sister got me is
- 19:19awesome. It's just like this classy, you
- 19:22know, tuk with kind of like a little half bill on it, you
- 19:24know, I'm, I'm into it. It's like a blue, like a blue
- 19:28color or whatever. The one I got her, it's a green
- 19:32stocking cap attached for her convenience.
- 19:37A beard like a like a your. Sister needs a beard like a
- 19:41crocheted. Beard.
- 19:43No, just because it's awesome. Like, so you pull it down and
- 19:46it's got like a little pocket for your chin kind of.
- 19:49And it's it hangs there with like a beard and mustache.
- 19:52And this will come in handy for your sister.
- 19:55Yeah, well, you know, what happened is she was walking her
- 19:57dog one day and somebody took a shot at her.
- 19:59I figure she's wearing this bearded beanie.
- 20:01Maybe they won't. Exactly.
- 20:03They'll be like, oh, nobody shooted that lumberjack with
- 20:05that gigantic dog. Of course, I don't know why
- 20:08anybody would shoot. She's her dog is like a werewolf
- 20:10dude. And why would people shoot at
- 20:14her with a werewolf dog, right? That's what I would think,
- 20:17right. So I get texters here that want
- 20:19to argue about with me about whether it's American Samoa or
- 20:21regular Samoa. It's regular Samoa and it's
- 20:24still 550 miles from the Internet Samoa.
- 20:26Samoa No, there's an. American Samoa too, is there,
- 20:28there's. Two Samoas?
- 20:30Well, there's two. Dakotas and two Carolinas, 2
- 20:32Virginias. It's not confusing there, right?
- 20:36No that. Is confusing.
- 20:39Hell, there's two Dallas's really in in.
- 20:42Texas No. Only one in Texas?
- 20:44Well, then who cares? That's like there's there's.
- 20:47Like another Oakdale in like Maine or something.
- 20:49And it's like, I don't care. There's even a Modesto.
- 20:50Illinois. Did you know that?
- 20:52Really. Yeah.
- 20:52Doesn't count. Is it George Lucas from Modesto,
- 20:55IL? I submit that he is not.
- 20:58At least not as far as we know. Wait a minute, we put our
- 21:05tinfoil hats on. I don't want to at this
- 21:09particular point. It is half past the hour though.
- 21:12It's afternoons live KFIVKWSX everywhere via the iHeartRadio
- 21:15app. You want to join us this
- 21:16afternoon? 551-3483.
- 21:19It's kind of getting caught up on the the Christmas holidays
- 21:21and what went down with all that.
- 21:24Tomorrow, of course, Wide open Wednesday your day.
- 21:25Choose a topic, go where you want to go.
- 21:27Although traditionally the last wide open Wednesday of the
- 21:29season of the year tends to be a little draw.
- 21:33Really it it really does. I I don't know if the people are
- 21:37just still on vacation, don't care, whatever.
- 21:40That's what it. Is man, it's, you know, it's the
- 21:42week between Christmas and New Year's.
- 21:44It's like. Why are we here?
- 21:45Nobody else is right. Kind of thing.
- 21:47It's not like we get to play. And I and I got people texting
- 21:50me griping about the Friday show where I put together all my
- 21:52music bits. Oh, I didn't like that funny
- 21:54bit. I didn't like the comedy bit.
- 21:57Well, it wasn't comedy. It was homespun Christmas warmth
- 22:01from Canada even. PS it was Friday.
- 22:04We have to put some Canadian stuff in.
- 22:06Thanks. Helper, yeah.
- 22:09Anyway, I I had a great time putting together and I hope
- 22:13everybody else it was very. Good it was, fun it was.
- 22:17Fun. It made me feel, made me feel
- 22:18all warm and tingly inside, deep down inside where I'm saw to do.
- 22:24Deep down inside, where there is still warmth from the Earth core
- 22:28still have. Feelings and emotions that
- 22:30haven't been burned away by the by.
- 22:33Centuries of Liberal oppression. Well, at least decades, anyway.
- 22:37It's half past, we'll be back right after.
- 22:40Does anybody treat him who never said a father for welcome back?
- 22:47Afternoons live Tuesday episode of the Big show, not Monday.
- 22:51I know it feels kind of like a Monday, but it is not.
- 22:53It is a Tuesday following the official holiday yesterday.
- 22:59I got really excited for a second.
- 23:00I want you to know when you left the studio.
- 23:02I got really excited, like, oh, I got this.
- 23:05I'm gonna have to. I'm gonna have to step up and
- 23:07handle this. Just leave while Dave is gone,
- 23:11yeah? It's it's possible.
- 23:12All right, we're going to do. Things my way, so here's your.
- 23:15Choice. I'll let you.
- 23:16I'll let you decide the next start.
- 23:18OK, over the. Over the course of the past few
- 23:21months we had the debt ceiling fight.
- 23:24So we have two stories here, new debt limit increase or from the
- 23:29files of what can go wrong here? Second one from the.
- 23:34Files of what can go wrong here? Yeah, we made allusion to this
- 23:37in the first hour of the show. British company has sold out two
- 23:44cruises for people to mark the anniversary the 15th of April by
- 23:48following the route of the Titanic where it struck an
- 23:51iceberg and sank carrying what, 1500 people to their desk did
- 23:55you say? Titanic.
- 23:56I did. The booming demand for Titanic
- 23:59related travel has led to another company offering a
- 24:01chance to explore the records of the ill slated vessel in the
- 24:04Russian Build Submarine Connect summer at a cost of $59,000 per
- 24:08person. Voyages very limited tourism
- 24:12boom. Part of a general revival of
- 24:13fascination with the Belfast built steamship.
- 24:16We'll see see special festivities take place on both
- 24:19sides of the Atlantic, as well as the screening of a 3D version
- 24:24of James Cameron's Oscar winning film.
- 24:28You wash your mouth, Dave. The Irish never built anything
- 24:31that broke. So we've got to have a 3D
- 24:33version of this now, Is that what I'm saying?
- 24:37Is that what I'm re hearing here?
- 24:39I read on. Twitter today they're doing a 3D
- 24:41version of The Great Gatsby. This is great because my
- 24:44favorite part in the book is when Gatsby throws knives at the
- 24:48reader. I'm just thinking I didn't see
- 24:54Titanic when it first came out. No, no.
- 24:57Oh dude, I did. I got swept up in that whole
- 24:59thing where everybody was like, oh, it's the greatest movie
- 25:02ever. And then it was like a month
- 25:03later you're like, man, that movie really wasn't that good,
- 25:05was it? Why did I see it?
- 25:066 * I. Just realized that I know why.
- 25:09The ship. Sank quicker than the movie,
- 25:11lasted long. The movie lasted longer than the
- 25:13ship did well. So really.
- 25:16It's not about I. I mean, the movie doesn't pick
- 25:18up right as the boat is sinking, Dave.
- 25:21Should have. They might as well have.
- 25:22I mean, that's where all the action takes place.
- 25:24There's a little drama. Leading up to it, there's a
- 25:26love, there's a love story, Dave, there's boobs in it.
- 25:30Can you teach? Me how to spit that's not a love
- 25:32story, at least not well you can't not what I want to one
- 25:35part of the. Movie and say Bing Bing Bing
- 25:37Bing Bing teach me how to. Spit like a real man.
- 25:41That's, that's not good. That's just not even good
- 25:45dialogue. That's one.
- 25:46Section from the film. Have you never seen it?
- 25:50Have you? Are you seriously?
- 25:52Saying to me that one section of a film can't ruin the entirety
- 25:55of it. Yes, no, but not.
- 25:59Don't believe me? No, that section can't ruin it.
- 26:04Why not? Because I find that disgusting.
- 26:09It's grossing. Spinning is in that nature, yes.
- 26:13Would it's making me gag right now?
- 26:15People hacking up? Look, I hate that.
- 26:18It's disgusting. All right, all right, so that's
- 26:20you. But you can't tell me that like
- 26:21that automatically. Like, you know, creates a
- 26:24situation in which you cannot have a love story based on I.
- 26:27Would not fall in love with anybody that does that.
- 26:29No, I'm sorry, just wouldn't. I'll bet Cammy's done it before.
- 26:34I bet she. Hasn't.
- 26:35I bet she has. We've had that.
- 26:37Discussion. She really you?
- 26:39Said OK, listen, I will marry you.
- 26:41It's my. Checklist things.
- 26:43I go down the list saying OK, number one, are you insane?
- 26:47Number 2, are you never mind. Well, that's.
- 26:50Romantic. Are you at least wait till the
- 26:523rd date to break this list? No, no.
- 26:54No, I no, no, I started that immediately.
- 26:58Any point in getting involved with somebody anymore?
- 27:00Look, I've had my share of that. I'm I'll see any point in
- 27:03getting involved with that. That kind of makes.
- 27:05That kind of makes a little bit of sense.
- 27:06Let's ask up. Front.
- 27:07Are you insane? Because if you are then fine.
- 27:09But I was going to say. Yes, especially crazy girls.
- 27:13The tricky ones will. Say no, I'm not.
- 27:16The ones who are not insane will say, you know, I guess it's
- 27:18possible. The ones who are.
- 27:20Not insane will say what? Are you insane?
- 27:23Why she just asked me that? Anyway, the.
- 27:27They're going to put ships out on the ocean in April of next
- 27:30year, which is the 100th anniversary of the Titanic
- 27:33sinking. This is.
- 27:33Now, more than one ship is what you're saying?
- 27:35Yes, there's at least. 2 plus the submarines that are going
- 27:38out, the Russian mirrors that are cure whatever they are.
- 27:41Kelvish is the name of the ship. Miles Morgan, managing director
- 27:44of the Titanic Memorial Cruises so a Bristol based company
- 27:48organizing the event, said places on the cruise from
- 27:50Southampton sold out weeks after going on sale, with second
- 27:53cruise likely to sell out by next month.
- 27:55Interest in the commemorative journey remaining, Intense said.
- 27:58We've been approached by news crews all over the world who
- 28:00want to film our recreation, our recreation.
- 28:04I just realized recreation and recreation are spelled the same.
- 28:07Absolutely. It's all in the context.
- 28:09Huh. That's right.
- 28:10All right. These journalists want to film
- 28:11the recreation of the fateful joy.
- 28:14Which I would. It works.
- 28:15Also it works. Also that that that that version
- 28:18of it works too. We could have.
- 28:20Filled the entire vessel with journalists wanting to be there,
- 28:23he said. What a.
- 28:24Shocker, right? The interest has come all over
- 28:27from the globe. We've had people from 24
- 28:30different countries booking. I think it's testimony to the
- 28:33fact that the name of Titanic has become one of those words
- 28:36that's recognized in any language around the globe.
- 28:38There are so many stories associated with the ship, from
- 28:40its own tragic history to the stories of those that lost their
- 28:43lives. People remain deeply fascinated
- 28:45by it. The culmination of restaging the
- 28:48Titanic's voyage, which will see the Balmoral, a chartered
- 28:51vessel, chartered vessel belonging to the cruise line
- 28:54Fred Olson. The Fred Olson Cruise Line set.
- 29:00It was sailed to the Point off Newfoundland, Canada, where the
- 29:03ship collided with an iceberg. There'll be a memorial service
- 29:05at 2:20 AM on 15 April. Fred Meyer was taken, I guess.
- 29:11Second chart vessel charted by the cruise company carry 694
- 29:14people will also meet at the side of the sinking after
- 29:16sailing from New York in route to Southampton.
- 29:19And it will also mean it's doom. Plans are being made for the
- 29:23wireless radio station at Camp Cape Race, Newfoundland, which
- 29:26received the Titanic SOS and moral code to repeat the
- 29:28message. That won't cause anybody to
- 29:30panic now. Nobody will go What?
- 29:35It's happening again the. Attention to detail for the
- 29:38recreated Titanic voyage means that the passengers will dine on
- 29:40the same menus of the 1500 people who died and the 710 who
- 29:45survived. Among items from the 11 course
- 29:47first class dinner to be offered by oysters, roast squab, sauteed
- 29:51chicken leonies. Mr. Morgan pointed out that
- 29:55engineering and safety rules of modern ships means that icebergs
- 29:59no now pose no danger to the cruise.
- 30:01He said that, John. He said that.
- 30:06He. Said it's wrong to criticize the
- 30:08commemoration is voyeuristic. I'll take my lead from those
- 30:11people who are coming on board who lost relatives in the
- 30:13disaster or family members survived, blah blah blah blah
- 30:15blah blah blah blah. And then they have the the
- 30:17agenda here in case you want to go.
- 30:18He actually said modern safety rules and engineering mean that
- 30:22icebergs now pose no danger to the crews.
- 30:25That's hilarious. Man, icebergs just get out of
- 30:28the way now. It's the 21st century.
- 30:31Ship shows up and says iceberg. I need to get by.
- 30:34Dear God. I saw the movie Bruce Almighty.
- 30:40If you're going to come down to me and say Dave, I'm going to
- 30:42give me give you all my powers for just one day.
- 30:46Please, you're going to wreck, I beg you.
- 30:48Please give it to me on April 15th.
- 30:52If I'm the deity, that ship is doomed.
- 30:56Absolutely doomed while knowing. Your angry Torah God, he might
- 31:03actually give it to you. Who would say?
- 31:05That, oh, the icebergs are no danger to a ship.
- 31:08Really. Well, why aren't they going
- 31:10around running into them every chance they get now then, right?
- 31:12Yeah, we'll just blow through icebergs.
- 31:13Why do we? Why do we need Ice Breakers up
- 31:15in the we'll? Demonstrate our oceanic
- 31:18supremacy by crushing every iceberg Once Upon a time.
- 31:22They said of the Titanic goddess Zalts couldn't sink this ship.
- 31:27Actually, they didn't really say that, but you know, it's gone
- 31:29down in milk. Well, they said it.
- 31:30Was unsinkable. They said it was unsinkable.
- 31:32And God proved them wrong. And Eisberg.
- 31:34Said don't believe me? Well, we'll figure, we'll figure
- 31:38out a way to get this thing. I just, if, if you're booked on
- 31:44this cruise, I would strongly advise you to miss it because
- 31:47because this is in that file that I keep that's called what
- 31:50could go wrong here? And you know as well as I do
- 31:53when we come in here on the afternoon of April 15th, which
- 31:56I'm assuming is a weekday. I don't know.
- 31:58But if it is a weekday and we come in here the afternoon of
- 32:01April 15th and our lead story is HMS Balmoral or S S Balmoral,
- 32:06whatever, it is sung, sung. By Iceberg sung by 70 icebergs.
- 32:11You know I'm going to be insufferable that day.
- 32:13Oh yeah. That's all we're going to.
- 32:15Let's just do the whole show about it.
- 32:17Well, of course, then somebody come like, yay, people died.
- 32:21Hey, 700 people survived the Titanic.
- 32:24Do you know why? Because the Titanic exceeded
- 32:28safety regulations of that day because of the bureaucracy and
- 32:31the engineering that went into that ship. 700 people survived
- 32:34the sinking of the Titanic. And all you want to do is
- 32:37complain about the 1500 that didn't could have been worse.
- 32:41You know, it could have been worse.
- 32:44It's been 100 years, what could go wrong here?
- 32:50I keep asking myself and and this time we're going to do it
- 32:52better. We're going to take two ships
- 32:53out there. Right, two ships to sink.
- 32:56Or at least that just means that you know, the one ship can watch
- 32:59while the other ship gets sucked and.
- 33:00Ignore it like the California did, right?
- 33:02Or the capacity, or whichever one it was.
- 33:04Well, look, there's a ship over there.
- 33:06Stuck his fingers in its ears. And said La La, la, la, la, not
- 33:08listening. We're going to bed.
- 33:10It's afternoon's live KFIVKWSX everywhere via the iHeartRadio
- 33:14app. Stay with us.
- 33:14We'll be back. Hello.
- 33:17Welcome back. Afternoon's live.
- 33:19It's a great song, right? It's much better live though.
- 33:26Man, I I would agree, but at that point why don't you just go
- 33:30to the show? Because.
- 33:32Here's the problem with the other show.
- 33:34I would go to the show if I were the only one there.
- 33:38What? I say?
- 33:38Oh, so you? Hate other people, hate other
- 33:39people. Do you know the thing that the
- 33:41the thing that's the big turn off for me, going to shows
- 33:44people who are there smoking the reefer.
- 33:46Again, if they were all, you know, there for the same reason
- 33:50I am, which is they appreciate the music and they want to fine.
- 33:53But what you got is, you know, 3000 drunks and they're smoking
- 33:57weed and really what's the fun in that?
- 34:01I can't beat them up. I can't do anything to them.
- 34:03So well, I spend I spend half my time trying not to breathe.
- 34:07It gets pretty. Dark in there.
- 34:08I mean, you probably could. One or two, I guess.
- 34:11I haven't. I haven't been to a concert
- 34:12since I went to Tom Petty's the the when he was doing the.
- 34:15Can't remember the name of the show.
- 34:22No, it's just. That long ago?
- 34:23It's 95, the solo album Full Moon Fever.
- 34:28I refuse. To believe that 1995 was that
- 34:30long ago because that is a year during which I was alive.
- 34:33Well, anyway. I just I just don't like
- 34:35concerts for that reason, but I enjoy the concert album.
- 34:38So I really do. They're they're much better than
- 34:41the the the studio almost much better.
- 34:43The music is real. It's not it's not over
- 34:45engineered, over synthesized, overscored.
- 34:49So that's it's like listen to The Beatles album, Sergeant
- 34:52Pepper, whatever it is with all the the music itself is
- 34:54fantastic. And then you get this guy who
- 34:55comes in and just starts adding crap into it.
- 34:57Well, let's add this orchestra over here and let's do this over
- 34:59here and let's let's add this in here to the point where you
- 35:02know, it's not The Beatles anymore.
- 35:04Now it's some guy who's just taken these these DJs now that
- 35:08do all that sampling crap. I mean, studio albums beat that
- 35:12by 40 years because they used to do the same thing.
- 35:14They just string it all together into a long song.
- 35:17I'll agree. With you in so far as there are
- 35:19definitely albums that or, or, or or music and songs
- 35:23specifically that do not benefit from the the production values,
- 35:28you know, that are that that they're made with.
- 35:30Yeah, I'll agree with you there there.
- 35:31I mean, there's definitely some songs that are, that are much
- 35:33better live, you know, than if you were to listen to the
- 35:35recorded version or whatever. But I don't think that that's
- 35:38like as a rule kind of a thing. And I would say that on the
- 35:41whole, the opposite is true. You would of course be.
- 35:46On the whole, not the stupid. The stupid crowd noise in there,
- 35:50Some guy, you know, some guys shouting Slayer.
- 35:53Alright, sometimes they should. Well see, I would never listen
- 35:55to that anyway, but like, no, it doesn't matter.
- 35:58What concert you're at, There's always one guy who shouts Slayer
- 36:01you could be seeing I've never. Heard that you could be seeing
- 36:03the pat. Metheny group and there's a dude
- 36:05in the crowd who's going to yell Slayer.
- 36:07I have never heard that in my life.
- 36:09No, no. Well, then you haven't.
- 36:11Been to that many concerts, Dave, You're you're on the other
- 36:13side of the Coliseum from where the guy was that's yelling
- 36:16Slayer. I sure didn't see anybody when I
- 36:19paid for two tickets to see Kenny G and Michael Bolton
- 36:22together, which may have been the worst teacher.
- 36:25I did. You paid for them.
- 36:26Oh God, I paid. For them I wouldn't have.
- 36:28Gone to that show for free, then I married.
- 36:30The girl that I took to the share show and then I, that
- 36:33didn't go well, so. And anybody that anybody that
- 36:37you that you can woo by taking them to a Kenny G and Michael
- 36:41Bolton concert. I'll tell you.
- 36:42I'll save you a bundle of money right now.
- 36:44Dave, don't marry that chick. Yeah.
- 36:47Where? Were you when I needed it?
- 36:50Hey, where were you then? Oh, it's just bad.
- 36:55It's just so bad. But Kenny G and Michael Bolton.
- 36:58Pink. Floyd.
- 36:59I've seen Pink Floyd. Really.
- 37:01They're awesome live and so much more fun live.
- 37:03I'll. Bet a delicate sound I.
- 37:05Thought you can listen to that for hours.
- 37:06The Wall Live, but Pink Floyd. Never put a whole bunch of crazy
- 37:10production value into their stuff, no.
- 37:12Not as much As for the most part what you.
- 37:14Were going to hear not as much. As like Céline Dion or Green Day
- 37:19is a great example. Green Day is a band that is so
- 37:21overproduced that why would you go see them live?
- 37:26It's not really Green Day. It's it's three guys plus their
- 37:30their entourage and you know it's you.
- 37:33You start listening to it and you realize this is not a three
- 37:35piece punk band. This is this is a major
- 37:39production and they're. Supposed to be punk rock.
- 37:41Pure punk rock. They're they're the purest punk
- 37:43rock. They're the punk whatever DIY
- 37:49sellouts anyway. I'd much prefer a live out Damn.
- 37:52Did you just throw sellouts out there?
- 37:54I did. Darkness.
- 37:56At Green. Day.
- 37:57Come on. No, you're not.
- 37:58Wrong I. Of course I'm not wrong, I'm
- 38:00just saying, so why don't listen to them?
- 38:01I'm above. Calling them sellouts.
- 38:03I'm above even that used to be good.
- 38:05And then? They got into all this political
- 38:06stuff, blah, blah blah. You know that did they used?
- 38:09To be good though, did they? Come on, Dookie, it was.
- 38:14All right, it was OK. Do you have?
- 38:17The time to listen to me whine there was.
- 38:19Way better stuff that was coming on around that time, not.
- 38:22If you were playing hockey. I don't know.
- 38:25I didn't play hockey. And this walk down memory lane
- 38:29did. Did.
- 38:33Is it just me or is it like it's Christmas week?
- 38:35Yeah. Like I can't be bothered to talk
- 38:37about anything important I didn't want to talk about.
- 38:39This wide open Tuesday 5513483 let's.
- 38:42Sample chat. The Titanic's going to sink
- 38:45again. I cannot wait.
- 38:46Stop Sink. Titanic, what would you rather?
- 38:48Have me say killing. Me.
- 38:50It's Titanic. If it's Titanic, here's a text.
- 38:54If it's not broke, it's British. If it's Scottish, it's broke.
- 38:58Got it. Where did that?
- 39:02Come from the text machine brought that up.
- 39:05That's pretty funny, but what if it's?
- 39:06Irish, which the Titanic was. She was built in Ireland, you
- 39:10know, Belfast. How dare you impule in the name
- 39:14of the mother country, Dave. We never built anything that
- 39:18fell apart. I'm about as English.
- 39:20As that. The bare sight of an iceberg on.
- 39:23Both sides of my family I'm pretty much English would have
- 39:25taken. Every iceberg, Dave.
- 39:26It would have taken an Ice Age. Don't worry about it though,
- 39:32icebergs are no longer a danger to modern ships.
- 39:34Right, according to the people that are going to load up two
- 39:36ships with a bunch of people, take them out to where the
- 39:40Titanic sank at the same time. What could possibly go wrong?
- 39:44I cannot. Wait to find out 'cause that's
- 39:46going to be funny. And you know, I, I, I'm already
- 39:51getting the emails and the texts from people.
- 39:53How can you joke about people dying?
- 39:55If you get. On that ship and go out there
- 39:58you. Have it coming, It's funny.
- 40:01Maybe. We can get Green Day to go play.
- 40:04Walk with Michael Bolton and Kenny G.
- 40:06We'll be right back. This group is smoking lie.
- 40:11You saw these guys? I thought that was Little
- 40:13Squirrel Nut. Zippers, man.
- 40:14There. Now you make this scene so
- 40:16there's a a weird story for you. Speaking of.
- 40:20Hell, 19 year old man was driven away from A roadside community
- 40:24cleanup project in Sutter Creek by accomplices this morning.
- 40:27Well, listen. So here's here's the.
- 40:30So here he is. He's breaking rocks or whatever,
- 40:32right? And.
- 40:33His accomplices come and pick him up, right?
- 40:36Angel Iniquez was driven away from a roadside cleanup project
- 40:39around 10:55 AM by two Hispanic men in a white compact car as
- 40:45CDCR officers were distracted by another crew member who needed
- 40:48medical attention after cutting his leg with a chainsaw.
- 40:56Now, now, admit it. You're, you're, you're with me
- 40:58on this. You're wondering accident or
- 41:01distraction, right? Yeah, but I'm not going to cut
- 41:04my leg with a chainsaw so that Enrique can get away.
- 41:08How much would it take? Let's assume that Angel Enique
- 41:10is a is a Gangnam. You know.
- 41:14How much would it take for you to cut your leg with a chainsaw
- 41:16so that he could get away? I mean at least six cartoons of
- 41:21smokes. The remaining 13 members of the
- 41:24crew were returned to the Pine Grove Conservation Camp.
- 41:28All law enforcement agencies were alerted to Nikke's
- 41:31disappearance. CDCR has also dispatched
- 41:34fugitive apprehension teams from its Office of Correctional
- 41:38Stats. Yeah, I hadn't thought of it in
- 41:42those terms, but Nikkei's is described as 5 feet 9 inches
- 41:47tall. 166 lbs is brown hair black.
- 41:49Brown eyes, black hair. Committed to CDC Rs Division of
- 41:52Juvenile Justice from Monterey County has been assigned to Pine
- 41:55Grove since May 3rd. Scheduled to be released when he
- 41:58turns 24. We had six years to go.
- 42:02Only another six years. It's been about 7 years since a
- 42:06juvenile offender has attempted to escape from Pine Grove Spites
- 42:10back to Youth Condo. Anyway, if you've got if you
- 42:12know where he is, call CDCR, they'd like him back.
- 42:14Harry Linden, 209-296-7581 Ask for Harry.
- 42:20He'd like to know where he is. Yeah.
- 42:23Really. A chainsaw accident.
- 42:25Accident or distraction. I mean like maybe a.
- 42:28Shovel or something like that. I didn't hit myself with a
- 42:30shovel. I guess that wouldn't.
- 42:31Require medical attention. I don't.
- 42:33Know man, not like a. Chain could hit myself with a
- 42:35shovel 3. Heart chainsaw would.
- 42:37Really attract attention. Welcome back, stay with us.
