- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today.
- 0:10May 10th. The heart behind the words.
- 0:13Have you ever said something in the heat of the moment and
- 0:15immediately wished you could take it back?
- 0:18Maybe it was a sharp reply to a parent, a sarcastic comment to a
- 0:22friend, or something you typed online without really thinking.
- 0:25We've all been there. And here's the thing.
- 0:29Those moments reveal something deeper than just a bad day.
- 0:32They reveal what's actually going on inside our hearts.
- 0:35Proverbs chapter 15, verses 28 to 29 puts it plainly.
- 0:41The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the
- 0:43mouth of the wicked pours out evil.
- 0:46The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the
- 0:49righteous. Did you catch that?
- 0:52The righteous person pauses. They think before they speak,
- 0:56not because they're slow or unsure, but because they care
- 0:59about what their words do to people.
- 1:01And God notices that he draws close to a heart that's careful,
- 1:06that's considerate, that's rooted in something good.
- 1:10Now flip over to 1st Corinthians chapter 13, one of the most
- 1:14famous passages in the Bible, and you might think it's just a
- 1:17wedding verse, but honestly, it's one of the most practical
- 1:21guides to everyday life you'll ever find.
- 1:24Verses four and five say love is patient and kind.
- 1:27Love does not envy or boast. It is not arrogant or rude.
- 1:32It does not insist on its own way.
- 1:34It is not irritable or resentful.
- 1:36And then verse 7 adds love bears all things, believes all things,
- 1:41hopes all things, endures all things.
- 1:43That's not a soft, sentimental kind of love.
- 1:48That's a tough daily. Choose it even when it costs you
- 1:51kind of love. And here's what makes it so
- 1:54real. It shows up in conversation
- 1:56every single day. You're in dozens of
- 1:58interactions. A group chat blowing up with
- 2:01drama, a classroom argument that gets personal, a family dinner
- 2:06where someone says something that stings.
- 2:09In every one of those moments, love is either present or it
- 2:12isn't, and the difference is felt.
- 2:15Think about someone in your life right now.
- 2:18Maybe a friend who's been a little distant, or a sibling
- 2:21who's been getting on your nerves, or a classmate you've
- 2:23been quietly judging. What would it look like to
- 2:27respond to them with patience instead of frustration?
- 2:30With kindness instead of sarcasm?
- 2:32With a belief that sees the best in them even when they're not
- 2:35showing their best? It's not easy.
- 2:38Nobody said it was. But First Corinthians 13 doesn't
- 2:42describe love as a feeling you either have or you don't.
- 2:45It describes love as a series of choices.
- 2:48Patient. That's a choice kind.
- 2:51That's a choice. Not insisting on your own way.
- 2:54That is absolutely a choice, and often a hard one.
- 2:57But each of those choices made one at a time, shapes you into
- 3:01someone whose words actually carry weight, someone people
- 3:04trust, someone who reflects God's character in the most
- 3:08ordinary moments of life. And the beautiful thing is, when
- 3:12your heart is being shaped by that kind of love, it changes
- 3:16what comes out of your mouth naturally.
- 3:18You don't have to perform it. You don't have to fake it.
- 3:22It starts to flow from a place that's been quietly transformed
- 3:25by spending time with God, by letting His words sit in your
- 3:28heart, by asking Him to make you more like Him.
- 3:32Your words have power. They can wound or they can heal.
- 3:36They can push people away or draw them closer, closer to you
- 3:40and closer to God. So the real question isn't just
- 3:43what should I say. The deeper question is, what is
- 3:46my heart full of right now? Because whatever fills it will
- 3:50eventually overflow. Let's pray.
- 3:53Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me that love is not
- 3:56just a feeling, it's a way of living every single day.
- 4:01I know my words don't always reflect the best of what I want
- 4:04to be, and I'm grateful that Your grace covers those moments.
- 4:08Help me to slow down before I speak.
- 4:11Help me to choose patience when I want to react, kindness when I
- 4:14want to be sharp, and humility when I want to be right.
- 4:18Fill my heart so full of your love that it naturally pours
- 4:21into the way I talk to people, my friends, my family, strangers
- 4:26and even people who are hard to love.
- 4:28Guard my tongue and grow my heart in Jesus name, Amen.

- 5:36Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's three-year
- 5:39Bible reading plan. Proverbs Chapter 15 Verses 28 to
- 5:4529 World English Bible The heart of the righteous weighs answers,
- 5:50but the mouth of the wicked gushes out evil.
- 5:54Yahweh is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the
- 5:57righteous. First Corinthians Chapter 13
- 6:00World English Bible If I speak with the languages of men and of
- 6:04angels, but don't have love, I have become sounding brass or a
- 6:09clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy
- 6:12and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all
- 6:16faith so as to remove mountains, but don't have love, I am
- 6:19nothing. If I give away all my goods to
- 6:22feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned but don't have
- 6:26love, it profits me nothing. Love is patient and is kind.
- 6:30Love doesn't envy. Love doesn't brag, is not proud,
- 6:34doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek
- 6:37its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil,
- 6:41doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices
- 6:45with the truth, bears all things, believes all things,
- 6:48hopes all things, and endures all things.
- 6:51Love never fails. But where there are prophecies,
- 6:54they will be done away with. Where there are various
- 6:57languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it
- 7:00will be done away with, for we know in part and we prophecy in
- 7:04part. But when that which is complete
- 7:06has come, then that which is partial will be done away with.
- 7:10When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I
- 7:14thought as a child. Now that I have become a man, I
- 7:17have put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror
- 7:21dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I
- 7:26will know fully, even as I was also fully known.
- 7:29But now faith, hope and love remain these three.
- 7:33The greatest of these is love. Thanks for joining us on Bible
- 7:38Chat, where Scripture meets everyday life.
