Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost, September 13 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of this Sunday, Dom Gaspar Lefevre writes, the supernatural life of our souls requires that the grace of God should always be beforehand with us and accompanying us which we pray for in the collect. To him therefore be glory as the epistle says, It is he who heals our infirmities as we see in the gospel and who is our support. Wherefore he teaches us in the gospel the virtue of humility.
• 0:57
In a short parable, he shows that God raises whoever humiliates himself. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen. The introit. Have mercy, o Lord.
• 1:23
For mercy, I plead continually. Who is so kind and forgiving Lord as thou art? So rich in mercy to all who invoke thee. Turn thy ear Lord and listen to me in my helplessness and my need. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and will be through all ages of ages.
• 1:59
Amen. Have mercy, o Lord. For mercy I plead continually. Who is so kind and forgiving Lord as thou art? So rich in mercy to all who invoke thee.
• 2:21
The Collect. Let us pray. Lord, we pray thee that thy grace may always go with us before and after making us continually zealous in good works through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians.
• 3:01
Brethren, let there be no discouragement then over the affliction I undergo on your behalf. It is an honor done to you. With this in mind then, I fall on my knees to the father of our Lord Jesus Christ. That father from whom all fatherhood in heaven and on earth takes its title. May he, out of the rich treasury of his glory, strengthen you through his spirit with a power that reaches your innermost being.
• 3:41
May Christ find a dwelling place through faith in your hearts. May your lives be rooted in love founded on love. May you and all the saints be enabled to measure in all its breadth and length and height and depth the love of Christ to know what passes knowledge. May you be filled with all the fullness God has to give. He whose power is at work in us is powerful enough and more than powerful enough to carry out his purpose beyond all our hopes and dreams.
• 4:37
May he be glorified in the church and in Christ Jesus to the last generation of eternity. Amen. The gradual. Will not the heathen learn reverence, O Lord, for thy glorious name and all those monarchs of the earth when they hear that the Lord has built Scion anew ready to be revealed there in glory. Alleluia.
• 5:14
Alleluia. Sing the Lord a new song. A song of wonder at his doings. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Luke.
• 5:34
At that time, there was a Sabbath day on which Jesus was asked to take a meal with one of the chief pharisees. And as he went into the house they were watching him. Here his eye was met by the sight of a man who had the dropsy. Jesus asked the lawyers and the pharisees openly, Is healing allowed on the Sabbath day? Then as they did not answer he took the man by the hand and sent him away healed.
• 6:11
And he turned on them and said, is there any one of you who will not pull out his ass or his ox immediately if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath? To this, they could make no answer. He also had a parable for the guests who were invited as he observed how they chose the chief places for themselves. He said to them, when any man invites thee to a wedding, do not sit down in the chief place. He may have invited some guest whose rank is greater than thine.
• 6:53
If so, his host in thine will come and say to thee, make room for this man, and so thou wilt find thyself taking with a blush the lowest place of all. Rather, when thou art summoned, go straight to the lowest place and sit down there. So when he who invited thee comes in, he will say, my friend, go higher than this and then honor shall be thine before all that sit down in thy company. Everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled and he that humbles himself shall be exalted. The Offertory.
• 7:48
Lord, give heed and help me. Confusion and dread be theirs who lay plots against my life. Lord, give heed and help me. The secret. Cleanse us, we pray thee, O Lord, by the working of this day's sacrifice, and in mercy, so deal with us that we may become worthy to take part in it through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
• 8:32
Amen. The Preface of the Most Holy Trinity. Just it is and fitting, right in for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God, who together with thine only begotten son and the Holy Ghost art one God, one Lord, not in the oneness of a single person, but in the trinity of one substance. For what we believe by thy revelation of thy glory, the same do we believe of thy son, the same of the Holy Ghost without difference or separation so that in confessing the true and eternal Godhead distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. In praise of which the angels and archangels, the cherubim also and Seraphim day by day exalt without end with one voice saying, holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts.
• 9:54
The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion.
• 10:15
O Lord, I will commemorate the faithfulness that belongs only to thee. It is thou, O Lord, that hast inspired me ever since the days of my youth. O God, do not fail me even now when I am old and grey headed. The post communion. Let us pray.
• 10:45
Graciously purify our souls, we pray thee, and by means of this heavenly sacrament renew them in such fashion that our bodies too may find new strength both now and in the time to come. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
• 11:34
Thanks be to God. Holy Mary, born this day, pray for us.
