- 0:21All right, everybody, you're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the Philadelphia
- 0:25Sports Table podcast show, the longest fronting weekly Philly sports podcast show in the
- 0:28world, over ten and a half years strong. Week seven of this Philadelphia
- 0:33Eagles season is now in the books. They beat the Miami Dolphins two five
- 0:39and one teams. They beat the Miami Dolphins at the Link by a score
- 0:43of thirty one to seventeen. The Eagles are now six and one on this
- 0:47season. In a statement type of game, even though there were so many
- 0:52ups and downs throughout this throughout this particular game, a decent amount of downs
- 0:57that we are going to talk about those downs regardless of this win. I'm
- 1:00Jeff Warren and I'm here at my good buddy Josh Schuster from Philadelphia soccernow dot
- 1:06com, and he's a good friend of the podcast, filling in for the
- 1:08guys here. Josh, Man, it is good to see you, buddy,
- 1:11and I gotta tell you it was a great win. Of course,
- 1:15it was a great win. But man, some some some ups and downs
- 1:21throughout this game. But I feel like it was like a tale of not
- 1:23even Sometimes. Len has said that Eagles games are every now and again,
- 1:27a tale of two halves. I felt this was like a tale of what's
- 1:33gonna happen here on this particular possession, with this with this offense here,
- 1:38That's what I was thinking here with this game. Yeah, No, I
- 1:41think that's a fair way of I'm kind of calling what this game was.
- 1:47I think, you know, last week when when I was on, we
- 1:49talked about the fact that it really was a tale of two halves, right.
- 1:53I think earlier during the Washington game after that when I was on with
- 1:57you, it was kind of the same thing here. It was it was
- 2:00a tale of every play because you really didn't know what was gonna be coming.
- 2:05Yep. And so I also feel like the score thirty one seventeen was
- 2:12not truly reflective of how close the game was. Yeah, and I really
- 2:15don't want to hear other fan bases of teams within the division talking about,
- 2:22well, you beat a team that hasn't played anybody, friends, Like,
- 2:25I got news for you. You have to play who's on your schedule.
- 2:30Yes, Miami had to win those five games. As it goes to show
- 2:34the Eagles lost to Zach Wilson last week, like anything can happen yeah,
- 2:38on any Sunday. That's why you play the game. So they won,
- 2:42Absolutely, they won. That's what we want in the end, folks.
- 2:44And seriously, throughout the analysis here where and the takeaways and the themes and
- 2:47the grades were gonna end up giving there is. There's no complaining about winning
- 2:53here. And I gotta say first and foremost though too as we like in
- 2:57terms of the themes. Man, this Kelly Green jerseys looked absolutely amazing.
- 3:00Josh my gosh. It took me back to the times of Randall Cunningham when
- 3:05I was a kid watching Ham. And just how appropriate because in this game,
- 3:09Jalen Hurts tied Randall Cunningham for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in
- 3:14the Eagles history, which is thirty two rushing touchdowns. It was really cool
- 3:20to see those Kelly Green jerseys and man, what it meant to you know,
- 3:23Jalen Hurts breaking Randall Cunningham's record. It's pretty cool. Actually, yeah,
- 3:29I kind of put the It's not that I hate the Kelly Green I
- 3:35like it, but part of it is when I see people wearing the Kelly
- 3:37Green out about I'm like, I'm not sure I understand the hype fully right,
- 3:42like people make a huge deal of it. I have a Kelly Green
- 3:44sweatshirt. It's more of the actual jersey that I look at. I'm like,
- 3:47I'm not sure, but when I saw it tonight, I equated to
- 3:51the Flyers jerseys the ones this year. Oh yeah, I saw a picture
- 3:54of them. I'm like, I really don't get it. But when I
- 3:57saw it on the ice and they were playing, I'm like, that is
- 4:00really really beautiful. Yeah, And so yeah they were. They just looked
- 4:03so clean tonight, and it was just it was it was great. Yep,
- 4:08it was. It was all right, let's get into this game here.
- 4:11And I want to say something right off the bat, because of our
- 4:14opposition territory show guest I was talking to. We were talking Miami Dolphins,
- 4:17and I gave some initial early thoughts and potential predictions, and I really thought
- 4:25the Eagles were gonna lose this game this week, and especially because of how
- 4:28this Eagles secondary looked coming into this game. Red Blankenship wasn't going to be
- 4:31playing, you have a rookie that was going to be starting, just a
- 4:35lot of uncertainty with the secondary, and I thought both Tyreek Hill and Jalen
- 4:40Waddell were both gonna have over one hundred and twenty yards receiving, and they
- 4:44didn't even come close to it. They really didn't. Tyreek Hill had fifteen
- 4:48targets in this game, as he should, he's one of the best wide
- 4:51receivers in the league. Fifteen targets, came down with eleven balls for eighty
- 4:55eight yards. Jalen Waddle, yes, he was injured. He was targeted
- 4:58six times, came down with six balls for sixty three yards. So I
- 5:01just wanted to call myself out there and say, folks, yes, I
- 5:04was completely wrong about this particular potential prediction here that both of these wide receivers
- 5:13were going to have over one hundred and twenty yards receiving. Again, didn't
- 5:15even come close to it. I have to call myself out for that.
- 5:18But you know, we were talking about Randall Cunningham a little bit earlier and
- 5:21how it relates to the Jalen Hurts and tying Randall Cunningham's record for most rushing
- 5:30touchdowns by an Eagles quarterback. And I really want to talk about Jalen here
- 5:32because let's talk about what we've seen from him here, Josh, because the
- 5:38fact that he came out of the half with a brace on his left leg.
- 5:41He's obviously from a health standpoint, not himself, perhaps maybe leading into
- 5:46this game, I don't know. Obviously at the half he needed some help,
- 5:49he needed some physical help. But overall from Jalen Hurts, we once
- 5:54again saw a very inconsistent Hurts playing the quarterback position this week. We saw
- 5:59him make some incredible plays, we saw him make some incredibly dumb plays.
- 6:03We saw him handle pressure well, and we also saw him cave to pressure
- 6:08as well. And then the turnovers. I mean, some of these turnovers,
- 6:12Yes, they're just bad. Some of them are bad luck. Some
- 6:15of it's also a product of just terrible pocket management from him as well.
- 6:18And I feel like we don't completely know who Jalen Hurts is this particular season
- 6:24here, Josh, what are your thoughts here? I just don't think we
- 6:28know who Jalen is here. Maybe he doesn't know who he is either,
- 6:30because he's not the same Jalen Hurts that he was in twenty twenty two.
- 6:35Yeah, so I'll go back to the first point you made about kind of
- 6:40pregame predictions. I was texting with a couple of my buddies, and I
- 6:43said it was going to be thirty one twenty four Miami, and I said,
- 6:46Pyriek Hill takes a slant route to the house and pretty much ends it.
- 6:51So I mean both of us. Clearly, I'm glad we're doing the
- 6:54post game together because clearly no football. Yes, here's my thing with quarterback
- 7:01interceptions. I really don't like when people say they've had bad luck. Okay,
- 7:08there are very few interceptions that are actually bad luck. If it goes
- 7:14off of a receiver's foot, even still, then it's probably not thrown in
- 7:19the best location. When it goes off of receiver's hands, unless it's right
- 7:24there, it's probably thrown behind or too far in front or too high right.
- 7:30Hearts was not unlucky tonight. Like, let's let's be very clear about
- 7:33this. He couldn't throw it around the defender that tipped it and it wound
- 7:40up going for a pick six. Right, yep, he if I told
- 7:44you that through seven games now, Parts has turned the ball over one or
- 7:48more times, whether it be fumble or interception, in every game but one,
- 7:54that's a problem. That is a big problem. Yes, it's not
- 7:58so much even the turnovers. If you looked at the game tonight, and
- 8:01I'll go back to what we said last week. When you are a top
- 8:05five paid quarterback, I am going to evaluate you as a top five paid
- 8:11quarterback because I think that that's fair. I've said it all along. I
- 8:15think he deserved to be paid, But when you get paid, I'm going
- 8:18to evaluate you based off of you getting paid. You cannot continue all night
- 8:24to throw too high for players where they're jumping, can't do anything. You
- 8:28cannot continue to throw behind receivers or they're falling to the ground to catch the
- 8:33ball, like during the McNab era. You need to hit people in stride.
- 8:37The two times he did it tonight, both were touchdowns, Yes,
- 8:41because the receiver was able to catch it and run right. The accuracy has
- 8:48really become an issue, and I think you're probably right in the sense.
- 8:54I don't know if we need to adjust from what we saw last year with
- 8:58Hurts. I'm not going to say that he's regressing, but is my concern
- 9:03level rising, Yeah, yes, and I think that's fair. I don't
- 9:07think it's regression at all. I think there was a sense from the coaching
- 9:11staff and the message to Jalen hurts after getting to contract where they wanted his
- 9:16game to go with regard to his overall future with this team, Josh,
- 9:22where I think it was, Okay, let's see where we can build upon
- 9:28your strengths from the pocket. We're seeing less and less of him getting outside
- 9:33the pocket this year. We're still seeing it every now and again. I
- 9:37mean, certainly we are still seeing it. I mean we're still seeing the
- 9:39plays too. We're getting outside the pockets. He's just falling down. We
- 9:43saw that on a couple plays today or tonight. I think Jalen and the
- 9:48coaching staff are trying to alter how his game went from twenty twenty two to
- 9:54twenty twenty three in terms of pocket management, and it just has been faltering
- 10:00game after game after game, and there isn't a semblance of a coherent pocket
- 10:05management system for him at this particular point. And I think that's what it
- 10:09is. I don't think it's just okay, we don't want you running,
- 10:13because they obviously have design plays with him, of course in the red zone,
- 10:16which go absolutely nowhere, and we can get into that in a little
- 10:18bit. But I think the concept of let's enhance your pocket management skills,
- 10:24I think they're trying to do that. Sometimes it works, sometimes it really
- 10:28doesn't work. When it doesn't work, and I think that's what's going on
- 10:31here. The best comparison that I I mean, I've tried to think for
- 10:35a while about it. The best comparison I can give for Hurtz his play
- 10:39this year outside of the one week that he was stellar, is a rich
- 10:43Man's justin fields. Yeah where, And I know people will probably come after
- 10:48me and say that's absolutely ridiculous comparison. But if you look at his games,
- 10:54it's the inconsistent throws, it's the turnovers, it's the running around,
- 11:00wants to pocket breaks down and I don't want to hear that Jalen Hurts doesn't
- 11:03have good protection either. The Eagles have one of the best offensive lines in
- 11:07the National Football League. You can't give them credit for that. They have
- 11:11hands down, it's not even a contest. The best offensive line coach in
- 11:13the NFL can't give Flowers for that and then also say he has no time.
- 11:20It comes down to something that you were talking about pocket awareness. For
- 11:24whatever reason, this year, I'm not talking about last year. This year
- 11:30he seems scared at some points where he is either looking to run or he's
- 11:35looking to just chuck it up, and that's not good. And that's where
- 11:39you get the throws into double and triple coverage, which never really happened last
- 11:45year, but it's happening on a regular basis this year. Yep. I'd
- 11:48love to know, folks, what you're thinking about Jalen Hurts this season,
- 11:52where he's at in terms of what his identity is, if he even has
- 11:56any identity. Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com. We'd love to read
- 12:00your email here on the show and respond to it on our regular show,
- 12:03as we do every now and again. So I also wanted to. I
- 12:07also mentioned the fact of the Eagles red zone play calling first drive of the
- 12:11game. My gosh, another week, another red zone trip going with direct
- 12:18runs with Jalen Hurtz handoffs to Kenny Gainwell for whatever reason. Meanwhile, this
- 12:24team has aj Brown and Davonte's Smith Dallas Goddard on the team, three pretty
- 12:28dominant receivers, and why not attempt a freaking pass when you are like third
- 12:33and goal from the nine yard line. Meanwhile, it takes one play for
- 12:37the Dolphins to get their top playmaker involved, which is Tyreek Hill and the
- 12:43Eagles didn't get Aj Brown involved once on their first drive. It boggles my
- 12:48mind, and especially in the red zone when they're calling the type of plays
- 12:52that they do, especially early in the games, it does not help to
- 12:56set a good tone, in a positive tone and just a forward thinking tone
- 13:01for this offense in the first quarter where we want to really see some dominance.
- 13:05I don't know, I was frustrated by that, Josh. Yeah.
- 13:09I think if the Eagles are on the two yard line, the one yard
- 13:15line, or the goal line, they're golden. Yeah. If the Eagles
- 13:18are anywhere between the nineteen and the twenty five, they're golden. It's that
- 13:22three yard line to the eighteen yard line. I can't remember the last time,
- 13:30especially with Hurtz at quarterback, And I promise I don't hate the guy.
- 13:33I really don't. I think he's a good NFL quarterback. Right.
- 13:39When is the last time he threw a ball that was a jump ball where
- 13:41the receiver AJ Brown had to go and high point the ball exactly I was
- 13:48thinking about in the playbook. Yeah, I was thinking about that as well.
- 13:50Today watching this game, I'm like, I have not seen a contested
- 13:54catch from AJ Brown in quite some time where he's just going up to the
- 13:58catch point bringing it down as we saw a number of times last season.
- 14:01It's pretty amazing to me. But AJ Brown does it anywhere outside of the
- 14:07red zone? Yeah, like they have no problem calling that play outside of
- 14:11the red zone. Yeah, I don't. I don't understand what's happening.
- 14:16Just as a reminder, the Eagles did win this game. Yes, I
- 14:20promise we are happy that they want them. Oh, we're gonna get into
- 14:22some good stuff too. We're gonna get into some good side. Okay,
- 14:24let's finish with the last Maybe I don't know if you have any more crap
- 14:28you want to talk about, just the and this isn't even crap, but
- 14:31I do have to say as we're getting as we're moving on, moving along
- 14:35from Jalen Hurts here, but Lane Johnson giving up a sack at the end
- 14:39of the first half. It was his first sack allowed since Week eleven of
- 14:43twenty twenty. It was like it was like a kind of like not really
- 14:48a heartbreaker, but just man, what a streak that came to an end
- 14:52with the Miami Dolphins. And you know, every now and again, the
- 14:56Dolphins have put some put some numbers up and some records and things like that
- 15:00over the years and decades up on the Philadelphia Eagles, and it stinks.
- 15:03It kind of stinks. It was the Dolphins for some reason where Lane gave
- 15:07up that first sack, the first one since Week eleven of twenty twenty.
- 15:11But overall, the offensive line did such an amazing job, specifically in pass
- 15:18pro I thought, but yeah, Lane Johnson giving up that sack kind of
- 15:20stunk. Yeah, but I think that's just a testament to how good he
- 15:24is. Yes, I think really the last two things that I have in
- 15:31the negative end. Okay, go ahead. You and I were texting,
- 15:33yes, and I asked you, I said, do the Eagles have an
- 15:37identity? And to me to be at Week seven as a Super Bowl hopeful
- 15:45and to sit and go. You gave me the responsible I think they were
- 15:48trying to be a running team like they were last year. But now I'm
- 15:50not really sure. Yeah. Yeah, well you're seven weeks in, like
- 15:54we're past this window of preseason. Basically, it's a little concerning that there's
- 16:00no like identity and the defense one time there's going to be a coach.
- 16:10I really thought it was gonna be Miami is just going to run slant routes
- 16:15and kill this team with slant routes because they keep playing fifteen yards off.
- 16:19Yes, and you can't. You can't do it. Let's go back to
- 16:22the identity robe. Oh no, go ahead, I'm sorry, Sorry,
- 16:26No, I was just gonna say, can we please be done with with
- 16:29Kenny Gamewell like I I don't think anyone ever has quoted mean Girls on here,
- 16:33but I'm about to quote it. I don't think anybody has. Go
- 16:37ahead. There's there's a line in there where there they say, stop trying
- 16:41to make fetch happen. It's not going to happen. Yes, stop trying
- 16:44to make Kenny Gainwell happen. It's not going to happen. Like done,
- 16:48we have swift done. I don't. I don't need Gainwell in my life.
- 16:52I know that quote all too well. My daughters love mean girls.
- 16:55They do. But going back to what you're talking about with the identity and
- 17:00our texts during the game, Josh, because I said, you know,
- 17:03I felt like earlier in the season, you know, whether it was the
- 17:07game against Minnesota where they put up two hundred and fifty nine yards rushing,
- 17:11and then the following week against Tampa Bay, they put up two hundred and
- 17:12one yards rushing. That was that identity that reminded me of twenty twenty two.
- 17:18I don't mean to keep going back to twenty twenty two, but it's
- 17:21kind of hard not to when they had such success going to the Super Bowl.
- 17:25But I felt like that was kind of they were kind of getting their
- 17:27identity early in the season, and then it just dropped off against Washington where
- 17:32it was one hundred and four yards on the ground. Last week against New
- 17:36York Jets eighty yards on the ground. Yes, I know the Jets have
- 17:38a pretty darn good defense, pretty damn good defensive front as well, but
- 17:44I felt like that identity they were trying to get going in the in the
- 17:47early part of this season was the rushing attack because it worked so well last
- 17:52year, and unfortunately they've just kind of they've kind of gotten away from that.
- 17:56But it does lead me into a positive that I have for this team.
- 18:00And I don't know if a lot of people recognized this, but DeAndre
- 18:04Swift I have to recognize something that he has been doing. I know that
- 18:10last game, definitely this game for sure him getting first downs when this team
- 18:17really needed them. I mean, he wasn't breaking any long runs really in
- 18:21this game. He wasn't like he wasn't flash here, flash there. But
- 18:25there were more than a few conversions that he made when holes were closing up
- 18:30and he was just using his vision and he was using his legs to make
- 18:33sure that he got that first down. He only had sixty two yards rushing
- 18:37on the day on fifteen carries, four point one yards per carry. His
- 18:41long was twenty two yards, so long as twenty two yards sixty two yards
- 18:47total on the day, folks. But DeAndre Swift was getting first downs in
- 18:49this game, and I just love having him in the backfield. I love
- 18:55having his versatility. He only caught three balls for thirteen yards, but again,
- 19:00there's some first downs that he was getting in this game that helped sustain
- 19:04drives. And I just love what DeAndre Swift has brought to this offense.
- 19:08I like DeAndre Swift a lot. I liked him before he came to Philly,
- 19:14mostly because of Fantasy football, I'll be honest, but he was one
- 19:19of those trades where I sat and went, whatever the compensation is, unless
- 19:23it's a first or a second round pick. You're not going to find a
- 19:26player in the third round of the draft or later that's going to be able
- 19:30to do what he can do. And so I loved the trade when they
- 19:33had made it. And he's kind of like the Bryce Harper of the Eagles
- 19:40to your point, where he's very clutch in terms of when they desperately need
- 19:45to get things going, he steps up to the plate and he gets the
- 19:48job done, which is why Nick listened to me. We don't need Kenny
- 19:52Gamewell. You don't need Kenny Gainwell at all. He's Boston Scott, anybody
- 19:57else, but Swift has that clutch gene to be able to get it done.
- 20:03And he runs hard too. It's that Philly thing. We love him.
- 20:06Players give it, give it, they're all and he absolutely does with
- 20:10every carry. Absolutely. I do wonder what's gonna happen with Kenny Gainwell from
- 20:14here because it look eight carries, sixteen yards averaged, two point two yards
- 20:19per carry, and I just cannot see him being on the field as often
- 20:26as he has with these type of numbers. And this is pretty consistent week
- 20:29after week. I'm not sure you mentioned Boston Scott, not sure why he
- 20:32is not in the backfield more. We've seen what he's been able to do
- 20:36over the years, a lot better numbers I think than Kenneth Gainwell, for
- 20:38sure. But I also wanted to mention too real quick, aj Brown fifth
- 20:42game of fifth game in a row with more than one hundred and twenty five
- 20:48yards receiving. He tied Calvin Johnson. Just an amazing wide receiver, of
- 20:53course, But I think at the end of the day, you have to
- 20:57credit this Eagles d defense and the rushing defense Josh, with how they handled,
- 21:06of course a very weak Dolphins offensive line. The rushing I mean they
- 21:11were keeping to Attago Vailoa on his toes consistently throughout this game. I mean
- 21:17the Dolphins had negative seven rushing yards at halftime. The domination of the rushing
- 21:22defense, I think really set the tone for everything else in this game.
- 21:27I mean, including that interception that we saw from Darius Slay in the fourth
- 21:33quarter. We haven't seen too many interceptions this season, but it really happened
- 21:36a lot, I think because of pressure and because the Eagles defense, specifically
- 21:41the rushing defense and a lot of the pass rush was just on working on
- 21:45all cylinders. In this game. Yeah. So to your point, there's
- 21:51two things that come to mind. The first is, I'm never going to
- 21:55complain about the Eagles not drafting a linebacker in the first round again, because
- 21:59honestly, every year that's what the talk is around the draft. Why don't
- 22:02they draft a linebrighter? And every year we get to Week seven and it's
- 22:06like, a linebacker really isn't the problem. If there's one position they're really
- 22:11able to develop outside of offensive line, yeah, it's linebacker exactly. They
- 22:15take whatever they have and they turn it into gold, and that's great.
- 22:18Is that cunning him had a great game? Yeah. I mean, hey,
- 22:23the other thing is I want to highlight most of its season because I
- 22:29feel like people don't understand the kind of season he was having going in tonight
- 22:34to tonight. Yes, when he gets ten or more carries, this is
- 22:38what he's done this year. Six point eight yards per carry, six point
- 22:41five yards per carry, six point three yards per carry, six point seven
- 22:45yards per carry. When he gets ten or more rushes, he averages easily
- 22:52six yards per carry. But not tonight, And so I mean you can
- 22:56look at it and say, wow, he averaged five yards to carry that's
- 23:00pretty good, but you have to look in terms of the grand scheme of
- 23:03things. They really shut him down. They only had forty five yards.
- 23:06Yeah, only forty five total yards rushing, folks. It's incredible. And
- 23:11he barely hit the fifty yard mark including receptions, Yeah, receiving yards.
- 23:15He had fifty one total yards on the night tonight. You'll take that any
- 23:18day of the week from a guy who's been averaging close to seven yards per
- 23:22carry outside of when he's able to get ten touches. Yep, yep.
- 23:26Absolutely. Look from a defensive standpoint as well, we saw a lot of
- 23:30different looks from the safety position. Of course, Trell Edmonds was in there
- 23:36Sidney Brown as well, with you know, Red Blanket Ship being injured and
- 23:40not being able to play in this game. I think his name is Mecky
- 23:44Mecky Gardner. He was in its safety for Sidney Brown at one point when
- 23:48Sidney had to come out in the second quarter. There was a lot of
- 23:51rotation with regard to the safeties and they were actually able to make it work.
- 23:56Sean Decide was able to make it work in this game. But I
- 24:00did want to mention to you and I texted you about it as well,
- 24:04you know, the secondary, even though it is weak, and even though
- 24:07they did perform generally well in this game. I wonder if I was texting
- 24:12another friend about this as well, another friend of mine about this, I'd
- 24:15like, I'm wondering if James Bradbury is just looking slow to you this year,
- 24:19because he does to me for some reason. I don't know if it's
- 24:22because Jalen Wattle and Tyreek Hill. You know, he's covering these guys who
- 24:26are just really amazing wide receivers and they're so fast. But I think James
- 24:32Bradbury in general, it's not just this game. It was the Jets game,
- 24:34it was the Rams game, it was the Commander's game. He was
- 24:38just looking slower. And Darius Slay too. I mean, look, these
- 24:41guys are no Spring chickens by the stretch of the imagination, but they are
- 24:45looking slower this year. Do you get that sense at all? Or am
- 24:49I crazy? Ere Josh, No, I don't think you're crazy, Okay,
- 24:53no, I James Bradbury to me was an excellent number two. Besides
- 25:02Slay. One of the things that you love about Sleigh is he has that
- 25:08dog mentality as a cornerback. But with that at cornerback, corners are really
- 25:15weird creatures and when you have that dog at corner, they need to be
- 25:18the clear cut one, and he is. So you need someone who's willing
- 25:22to play that Robin role next to Slay the Batman, and Bradberry does that
- 25:29really good. But at the end of the season, if he doesn't come
- 25:33back next year, I'm not going to be upset. And it's not because
- 25:37I think he's done a horrible job. It's just he is on that fence
- 25:42of where he's starting to look slower, and then next year he'll be too
- 25:48slow and then you have a problem. Yeah, I've got no other themes
- 25:52to get into. There's certainly some things we're going to talk about once we
- 25:56get into the grades in just a bit here, But do you have any
- 25:59other themes Josh before we get into the grades? Yeah, this this might
- 26:03be a hot take. Okay. I think the AJ Brown is probably the
- 26:07best wide receiver the Eagles have had easily since probably the My Quick days.
- 26:11Oh my gosh. Yeah, dude, I don't know how it can't be
- 26:15argued. Like I mentioned, his fifth straight game of over one hundred and
- 26:18twenty five yards. I mean, it's he's incredible. I mean fred X
- 26:22is a close second, but you know, yes, yeah, you know,
- 26:29but I mean he's just he's insane. It's kind of like when Zack
- 26:33Wheeler goes to the mound. You just have complete under trust. Whenever a
- 26:37ball is thrown AJ Brown's way. If he doesn't catch it, I mean,
- 26:41my jaw almost literally hits the floor. Yeah, yeah, I think
- 26:45there's something to be said for athletes like that, the Zach Wheelers of baseball,
- 26:48the Aj Browns of football. You know, even you know, you
- 26:52can even say that Joe El Embiid's you know, of the game of basketball.
- 26:56When there are steady guys who are able to really get the job done
- 27:00night in, night out. You know, there's some hiccups here and there
- 27:03with with with some of these players. Every now and again, little hiccups
- 27:06happened. But my gosh, Aj Brown fifteen targets come down, came down
- 27:10with ten balls for one hundred and thirty seven yards. Just absolutely incredible.
- 27:14So I think we're gonna end our themes there if that's good with you,
- 27:18and take a quick break. Is that all right with you, buddy?
- 27:22Yep? Sounds good. All right, folks, quick break. We will
- 27:25be back with our grades in just a bit. All right, we are
- 27:29back with our good friend Josh Schuster here, and I'm gonna get into our
- 27:32grades. I'm gonna grade Jalen Hurts and give him, believe it or not,
- 27:37even after the turnovers in this game, I'm gonna give him a B
- 27:40minus. Considering twenty three of thirty two, two hundred and sixteen yards,
- 27:45six point eight yards per attempt, one touchdown, one interception, he ended
- 27:48with a rating of eighty seven point five, and I'm still gonna give the
- 27:52guy a B minus. A lot of that comes from him needing to make
- 27:57plays, and he actually did make make them. Yes, as we mentioned
- 28:00earlier, a lot of bad plays that were on the field as well,
- 28:03but when he needed to make good plays for this team, he did.
- 28:07I'm giving him a B minus. Josh, what do you give him?
- 28:08I have a feel like it's going to be lower. No, I'm actually
- 28:12going to give him a bee. Okay, I'm gonna gi him fire because,
- 28:15honestly, Jack, I feel like if I told you the quarterback for
- 28:18the Eagles tonight, when twenty three of thirty one for two hundred and seventy
- 28:22nine yards, two touchdowns at interception, and oh, by the way,
- 28:26he ran another one in. You'd be like, yeah, that was a
- 28:27pretty good performance. So I feel like to give him less than a BE
- 28:33I would be unfair, even though I was highly critical of him. Yeah,
- 28:37I'll give him a B. Okay, sounds good. Running backs DeAndre
- 28:41Swift, as I mentioned, and I'm even though again, fifteen carries for
- 28:45sixty two yards. You know it's nothing to write home about. But I
- 28:51think the running backs, specifically DeAndre Swift, really helped out this offense when
- 28:56they needed. When this team needed first downs, Andre Swift was absolutely there.
- 29:02So I'm gonna give the running backs a B plus. Even though Kenny
- 29:06Gainwell only had two yards averaging per Carrie. What do you give the running
- 29:11backs this week? I will give DeAndre Swift an A and I'm gonna give
- 29:17Kenny Gainwell a h Go home, okay home, But yeah, I'll give
- 29:23Swift an a. All right, sounds good. The receivers this week,
- 29:27man Dallas Godder getting five targets, caught all five for seventy seven yards and
- 29:32a touchdown. Davante Smith with five targets came down with four balls for forty
- 29:36nine yards twelve point three yards per reception. I'm gonna give the wide receivers
- 29:41a B plus this week. What do you give them? I'm gonna give
- 29:45him a name minus. Okay, it would be a full A except I
- 29:48want a little more out of the Slim Reaper and I'd like to see Cause
- 29:56get involved a little bit more. Yeah, but really, that third,
- 30:00that third wide receiver spot is still just missing. And maybe Julio Jones will
- 30:04change that moving forward. I'm not expecting him to be the Julio that he
- 30:10was as a Falcon. Yeah, they need something there. Yep. He
- 30:12had one catch for three yards. Hopefully we see more from him, for
- 30:15sure. The offensive line I thought was fantastic in pass protection, even though
- 30:22you know Jalen Hurts you know, went down three sacks in the game.
- 30:26Still I thought they were fantastic pass protection. The run game struggled a little
- 30:30bit here and there. I'm gonna give the offensive line a an A minus
- 30:33this week. What do you give him? Yeah? That sounds about good
- 30:37to me. You know, I know Herts was sacked three times, so
- 30:40you said, but some of it I think just comes down to pocket awareness,
- 30:42yep, and he just wasn't able to escape. Some of it was
- 30:47he was running around too long. So I'll give him a name, Honus.
- 30:52That sounds about fair, all right. I am just realizing that when
- 30:55I went over Jalen hurts Is, I'm glad. I'm glad you. Actually
- 31:00I knew what you were doing, Josh, because when I went over Jalen
- 31:02hurts stats, I was reading to a tug of I Lois. That's what
- 31:04I was reading here from the stat sheet. Please somebody slap me in the
- 31:07face the next time you see me. Dear god, I'm glad you were
- 31:15a team here exactly. Gosh, guy doing it for ten and a half
- 31:18years, and oh my gosh, slap me in the face, folks.
- 31:21All right, as we're running half time here, I'm gonna move over to
- 31:23the defensive side of things. The defensive line this week, my gosh,
- 31:29just just fantastic pressure that they were consistently getting Onta. They ended the day
- 31:34with four sacks, eight tackles for a lost, and six quarterback hits.
- 31:40I'm giving them a A I'm giving the defensive line, and a what are
- 31:42you give them? Buddy? I'm gonna rope d line and linebackers together and
- 31:47do an A plus. Okay, anytime you don't hear any problems coming out
- 31:51of the linebacker corp that that's an easy A. And I mean it's not
- 31:55so much the sacks. There was eight tackles for loss tonight as well.
- 31:59Yeah, and really two was under pressure like all all night tonight. Yeah,
- 32:05so they really did their job, you know what. I was gonna
- 32:07give the linebackers an A minus. Actually he's been mainly Zach Cunningham. He
- 32:12was a guy and na Kobe Dean was out there as well. But I
- 32:15completely agree with you, and I think the linebackers really held up well for
- 32:19sure. Secondary this week, boy, you gotta give Darius Slay big play
- 32:22Sleigh a lot of credit for that interception, and I think again holding up
- 32:30with regard to Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle, they did they didn't go absolutely
- 32:35insane and crazy. So I'm gonna give the secondary actually a B plus this
- 32:38week. What do you give him? I'm giving him an A all right.
- 32:44I mean if you would have told me going into tonight that Tyreek Hill
- 32:46is going to be under ninety yards and Jalen Waddle is going to be under
- 32:51sixty five. Yep, I honestly probably would have called you a liar,
- 32:55okay, because I wouldn't have believed it. And to be honest, for
- 33:00the nickel corner spot, they're literally just piecing this together week by week,
- 33:05and so for them to kind of have the performance they have, I'll keep
- 33:08graping and complaining about playing fifteen yards off, but if it's working, what
- 33:15can you do? Absolutely? What can you do? All right, Well,
- 33:16let's move over to coaching right now. Michael Clay and special teams man
- 33:22Brandon Mann had one punt for fifty seven yards, Jake Elliott nailing one field
- 33:28goal, a twenty four yarder, And I do have to say this as
- 33:31well, Let's not forget that on the Eagles first touchdown drive of the game,
- 33:37they were given a really good field position by a thirty eight yard kickoff
- 33:40return by Boston Scott. Special teams actually came to play today. It's complete
- 33:46opposite from what we saw last week. I am giving special teams a straight
- 33:51up a what do you give of Josh? I agree, Jeff, did
- 33:54you know that you are allowed to run the ball more than ten yards a
- 34:00return? You can you can and you don't have to fair catch it all
- 34:04the time. It's it's amazing what can happen? Absolutely, I have someone
- 34:08different back there. Literally, anyone making a fan give away, I don't
- 34:13care, but hey, they get an A. Sean Desigh On the defensive
- 34:17side of the ball, I am going to give Sean decaie again, given
- 34:21the fact that the secondary is pretty banged up and we just didn't really know
- 34:23what to expect from them, I'm actually going to give Sewan Desi an a
- 34:28minus this week. Tremendous job again, pressure on Tua. It turned out
- 34:31to be a very dominant game by this defense. I'm giving him an a
- 34:36minus. What do you give him, buddy, I'm going to give him
- 34:38an A or sound like Oprah, you get an A, you get an
- 34:42ay. I may hate the system, and I think a lot of us
- 34:46Philadelphia fans hate the system, but I can't be critical of holding the Dolphins,
- 34:52which I think we're the number one scoring offense coming into the game,
- 34:54as they were to easily two touchdowns less than what averages this year. I
- 35:01can't argue with it, and so I'm gonna give him an A. All
- 35:04right, Nick Sirianni Brian Johnson, I am going to give these gentlemen an
- 35:09A minus as well. I mean aside from the aside from the terrible red
- 35:14zone offense on that first drive, I mean, the guys, these guys
- 35:17did pretty well. I think in terms of running this offense tonight, I'll
- 35:21give him an A minus. What do you give them? The hesitation?
- 35:29Yeah, I'm gonna go B B Okay, And it's more because it's been
- 35:32weeks after weeks after weeks of the same issues. And if this team really
- 35:37is gonna make it to the Super good point and they're gonna win the Super
- 35:39Bowl, yeah you gotta change. And we talked about lack of offensive identity
- 35:45too, you know what I mean? So I I think that, you
- 35:47know what, I'm getting mine down to a B minus. There it is
- 35:50B minus. Fo I'm talking down here. I think the defense has an
- 35:54identity. It's just I have a hard time giving an A if I I
- 36:00can't understand what the identity is. Yep, all right, well there you
- 36:04go, folks. Week seven of this season now in the books for this
- 36:08Philadelphia Eagles team. Again. They beat the Miami Dolphins by score thirty one
- 36:13to seventeen down at the link. They are six and one on the season,
- 36:16first in the NFC East. And Josh Man, it was great talking
- 36:22to you. We had the Philadelphia Union's last regular season game last night,
- 36:28right, didn't go too well, Jeff. The Union are showing exactly what
- 36:35it means too literally back into the playoffs. There you go. Yep,
- 36:38it's great, it's great. We are hopefully going to be getting into the
- 36:42Philadelphia Union a little bit more on our regular show, and make sure you're
- 36:46following what Josh and his colleagues are doing over at Philadelphia soccernow dot com.
- 36:51Great great content over there. So Josh, buddy, it was great,
- 36:54great talking to you again. Thanks for filling in for the guys here on
- 36:58our postgame show. And I'm hoping to talk to you at some point down
