Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right. Just moments ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Ettnia
- 0:03Speaker 1: who said he is hopeful all Israeli hostages will be
- 0:08Speaker 1: released within days. In a five minute televised address, he
- 0:12Speaker 1: said all of this to his nation. Earlier, we learned
- 0:16Speaker 1: Israel has formed a delegation to lead ceasefire talks under
- 0:20Speaker 1: President Trump's twenty point piece plan, as key negotiators from
- 0:24Speaker 1: the US are heading to the region. Seen, it's Jeremy
- 0:27Speaker 1: Diamond and Julia Benbrook are following all these fast moving developments.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Let's get started with Jeremy in Israel. What are you learning.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Well, Fred? We heard the Israeli Prime Minister tonight sounding
- 0:39Speaker 2: quite optimistic about the prospects for a deal that would
- 0:42Speaker 2: secure the release of all of the hostages and ultimately
- 0:46Speaker 2: lead to an end of the war in Gaza. The
- 0:48Speaker 2: Israeli Prime Minister tonight saying that he is hopeful that
- 0:52Speaker 2: the hostages could potentially be released during the week long
- 0:55Speaker 2: Succut holiday, which begins on Monday evening. He said that
- 1:00Speaker 2: his efforts are going to be to try and limit
- 1:02Speaker 2: the negotiations to just a few days, saying that he
- 1:06Speaker 2: doesn't want to allow Hamas the opportunity to drag out
- 1:10Speaker 2: those negotiations. Tonight we saw in Tel Aviv as well
- 1:14Speaker 2: as here in Kiriatgat many Israelis who were coming out
- 1:17Speaker 2: to ensure that the pressure continues on the Israeli government.
- 1:21Speaker 2: In Tel Aviv tonight we saw tens of thousands of
- 1:24Speaker 2: Israelis who flock to Hostage Square to raise their voices
- 1:28Speaker 2: and to ensure that this government follows through with making
- 1:32Speaker 2: this deal a reality. We should be very clear though,
- 1:35Speaker 2: that there are a lot of details and more than
- 1:38Speaker 2: just details, but really major sticking points that still need
- 1:41Speaker 2: to be resolved between these two sides. Those negotiations are
- 1:44Speaker 2: set to take place in Egypt beginning on Monday, where
- 1:47Speaker 2: we know that a Hamas delegation is on its way there.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Jared Kushner, President Trump's son in law, as well as
- 1:53Speaker 2: Special ENVOYE. Steve Witkoff are headed there, and an Israeli
- 1:57Speaker 2: delegation led by Netanyahuo's closest advisor Dermer, will also travel
- 2:02Speaker 2: to Cairo in order to try and complete this negotiation.
- 2:06Speaker 2: But we know, of course that Hamas's positive response to
- 2:10Speaker 2: this twenty point plan to end the war, it was positive,
- 2:14Speaker 2: but it did include some caveats, and it did not
- 2:17Speaker 2: address one of the key issues at the core of
- 2:19Speaker 2: this deal, and that is Hamas needing to disarm Gaza
- 2:24Speaker 2: Strip being demilitarized as part of any agreement to end
- 2:27Speaker 2: the war in Gaza. And it remains unclear how that
- 2:31Speaker 2: gap is going to be bridged by these two sides.
- 2:33Speaker 2: But I can tell you from speaking with some of
- 2:35Speaker 2: the families of hostages tonight right here where they held
- 2:39Speaker 2: another rally, that there is finally a sense of hope,
- 2:43Speaker 2: cautious hope, without a doubt. But this moment does feel
- 2:47Speaker 2: different for many of the families of the hostages who
- 2:50Speaker 2: have been waiting nearly two years now for their loved
- 2:53Speaker 2: ones to be released.
- 2:54Speaker 1: All right, thank you, Jeremy Diamond, Julia in Washington. What
- 2:59Speaker 1: are you hearing from the White House? Well.
- 3:02Speaker 3: In a social media post just a couple of hours ago,
- 3:04Speaker 3: President Donald Trump said that Israel had temporarily stopped the
- 3:08Speaker 3: bombing in order to give the hostage release and the
- 3:11Speaker 3: peace plan a chance. In that same post, he warned
- 3:15Speaker 3: Hamas that it needed to move quickly toward an agreement
- 3:19Speaker 3: or quote, all bets will be off now. As Jeremy
- 3:24Speaker 3: pointed out, there are still a lot of questions as
- 3:26Speaker 3: to how or when a lasting peace deal could come together,
- 3:31Speaker 3: but we have seen some momentum. President Donald Trump has
- 3:35Speaker 3: been clear that this is a goal of his to
- 3:37Speaker 3: help bring this conflict to an end, and on Monday
- 3:40Speaker 3: he hosted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Nettannah, who here at
- 3:44Speaker 3: the White House. The two leaders set down for a
- 3:46Speaker 3: bilateral meeting, and then during a joint press conference, Net
- 3:49Speaker 3: and Yahoo expressed support for Trump's twenty point plan. That
- 3:54Speaker 3: plan calls for the release of all hostages held by
- 3:57Speaker 3: Hamas within seventy two hours of an agreement, and it
- 4:00Speaker 3: lays out a roadmap for Gaza if the war comes
- 4:03Speaker 3: to an end. After being given an ultimatum and a deadline,
- 4:08Speaker 3: Hamas said that it would immediately enter negotiations to release
- 4:11Speaker 3: those hostages, but stop short of fully endorsing all twenty
- 4:15Speaker 3: points that the Trump administration has laid out in remarks
- 4:20Speaker 3: from the Oval Office following that announcement from Hamas, Trump
- 4:24Speaker 3: called this a big day, but he did caution that
- 4:27Speaker 3: this is not a done deal, a done piece agreement.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yet.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Take a listen. This is a big day. We'll see
- 4:34Speaker 3: how it all turns.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Out.
- 4:36Speaker 3: We have to get the final word down and concrete.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Very importantly, I look forward to having the hostages come
- 4:44Speaker 3: home to their parents. And then I want to pull
- 4:48Speaker 3: up that social media post that I referenced earlier to
- 4:51Speaker 3: read that to you in full. Trump said, quote, I
- 4:54Speaker 3: appreciate that Israel has temporarily stopped the bombing in order
- 4:58Speaker 3: to give the hostage release and peace steal a chance
- 5:00Speaker 3: to be completed. Hamas must move quickly, or else all
- 5:04Speaker 3: bets will be off. I will not tolerate delay, which
- 5:08Speaker 3: many think will happen, or any outcome where gaz opposes
- 5:11Speaker 3: a threat. Again, Let's get this done fast. Everyone will
- 5:15Speaker 3: be treated fairly. Those are the most recent remarks from
- 5:18Speaker 3: Trump himself.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Fred all right, Julia Benbrooke, thanks so much,
