- 0:14Hello and welcome to Arguing Ever After.
- 0:16I'm Luke and this is my wife, Amber.
- 0:19Hello. Together we are the Lord and
- 0:21Lady who lock horns. The count and Countess of
- 0:23contention. The Duke and Duchess of
- 0:25Disagreement. And the king and queen of
- 0:27quarrels. We have been together since the
- 0:29world premiere of the fantastic movie Con Air, starring Nicolas
- 0:33Cage. In this podcast, we will bicker
- 0:35about all things big and small, and the audience gets the final
- 0:38say on who the winner is. Many of our topics are
- 0:41frequently submitted by our listeners, so if you have
- 0:43something you want us to battle over before you try it at home,
- 0:46please send it to usarguingeverafter@gmail.com.
- 0:49Perhaps it's completely unscientific method of letting
- 0:51the masses decide who is right. We'll help you solve your fight
- 0:54before you even have it. And so here we are at episode
- 0:59#18. 18 That's pretty awesome. Yeah, it is.
- 1:02Yeah. If you were like counting in
- 1:04years, you'd be like old enough to do some stuff.
- 1:07Some stuff. Yeah, not all the stuff.
- 1:09Yeah, you got to be 21 for all this stuff.
- 1:11No, you got to be 2727. Isn't that what?
- 1:13How old do you have to be to rent a car?
- 1:15Oh, I don't know. No, I think it's, I think it's
- 1:1725 in most places. Yeah, Isn't 27 you get to be on
- 1:22your own insurance or you have to be on your own insurance.
- 1:24That's really fun for people. So never mind, we won't talk.
- 1:27I have an idea. Yeah.
- 1:28We're not talking about insurance today.
- 1:30You know what we're going to talk about?
- 1:32Planes, trains and Automobiles minus the trains and
- 1:37Automobiles. OK, fair.
- 1:39Also, that was a great movie. It was John.
- 1:41Candy was also Steve. Steve, somebody.
- 1:47I don't remember his last name. What here, guy?
- 1:50Steve Martin. Martin, I actually don't
- 1:52remember much of the movie, so this isn't fair.
- 1:54I don't think he was in that. I almost said Danny DeVito, but
- 1:57that's throw Mama from the train because the word train got into
- 2:01my head. So now I'm just in that random
- 2:03movie association thing my brain does sometimes.
- 2:06Yeah, there's nothing about trains in this podcast except
- 2:09for all the things we just said. However, what we are going to be
- 2:13talking about today is like airports and flying.
- 2:17Yeah, because that's fun and awesome it.
- 2:20I mean. We're we're already.
- 2:24In full disagreement 30. Seconds in.
- 2:28Yeah, yeah. You mean the part where you're
- 2:30there at the place? Yes.
- 2:32So you're up for teleportation? I'm so ready for teleportation.
- 2:36Me. Too.
- 2:36When can that happen? I heard something they did a
- 2:39there was like a quantum particle beam like where they
- 2:44intentionally moved a very small thing maybe like 1 molecule from
- 2:50one part of earth to another. OK, well at another episode
- 2:54we're going to have to talk about teleporting because I have
- 2:57a whole another story about a guy who did this.
- 2:59He teleported. No, but he says he did.
- 3:02So we'll talk about that in a long time.
- 3:04This one is going to be like we said about like airports,
- 3:08flying, stuff like that. This topic has been on our radar
- 3:13for a really long time. A very long time.
- 3:16Like it was one of our number one topics that we were going to
- 3:20discuss on this podcast. That's because airports can
- 3:23bring about high stress. They can and, but, and every
- 3:27time, well, or several times when we're looking through the
- 3:29list of what we've had submitted and what we have written, you
- 3:33know, we're always like airport because we know we're going to
- 3:35argue about it. Yeah.
- 3:37And but I, I kept saying, wait until we've been somewhere,
- 3:41maybe we'll have some new antics.
- 3:42We can share some fresh opinions.
- 3:44And we probably certainly do. We just went to Florida.
- 3:47Hence the shirt. Yeah, of the cute little Florida
- 3:50orange bird. I love that bird, he's so cute.
- 3:53I should have wore the other orange bird shirt that I have.
- 3:56That thing is something. That is brighter than the sun,
- 4:00but we but we did so we just did recently come back.
- 4:03And so based on, you know, that was our commitment to doing
- 4:06this, this topic, it felt like time to do so.
- 4:12So First off, I'd just like to give a shout out to the Wright
- 4:14brothers. I know we've talked about them
- 4:16maybe once before when we talked about the state of North
- 4:18Carolina, but I'm real happy those guys decided to do what
- 4:21they did back in the day and get us the magic of airplanes.
- 4:26You. Know what I think is so funny is
- 4:28that you've mentioned them multiple times and they've not.
- 4:30They're nowhere in my. It's a big deal.
- 4:32Stream of consciousness I. Mean think of what that did to
- 4:34the planet. A lot.
- 4:36I agree. I agree.
- 4:37Yeah, like amazing stuff. It made it so that you could you
- 4:40weren't just limited to where you're feet and car and boat
- 4:44could go, you could go so much faster.
- 4:46I guess when I I mean those are clearly very famous pilots, but
- 4:50when I think of famous pilots, I think of Amelia Earhart.
- 4:53Hold on. Not pilots.
- 4:54Let's be clear. Aren't they inventors?
- 4:56Sure, but they flew the plane. Aren't they the 1st?
- 4:58One, they invented the. Airplane I understand, but they
- 5:01flew it, didn't they? Of course they flew it.
- 5:03So that would make them pilots? Oh my goodness gracious.
- 5:06Yes, but you don't relegate them to the pilot class.
- 5:09They made the airplane. That's like saying the person
- 5:13that I don't know captained a ship.
- 5:17They were like, oh, the the guy who invented the boat is just a
- 5:21guy. That captain.
- 5:22No, he invented the boat. I.
- 5:24Understand, but that doesn't make him not a captain.
- 5:27Well, I mean, OK, agreed. Makes him the number 1 captain.
- 5:31But that person gets classified as an epic inventor of of huge
- 5:36historical significance. Sure, but I'm saying both can be
- 5:40true. Well, OK.
- 5:41So you're thinking invention, which is fine.
- 5:43I'm thinking that they flew in the flipping area.
- 5:46OK, whatever with your non 0 sum game, that's fine.
- 5:49You're right, you're not wrong. They they were they they flew,
- 5:51they were captain. Yeah, OK.
- 5:52And then there was that other one who was like America's
- 5:54grandpa or whatever, who landed into the Hudson.
- 5:57What was his name? America's grandpa, are you
- 5:58talking about recently? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Sully.
- 6:00Yeah. Yeah, yeah, everybody knew him.
- 6:03So like those are the 2 famous pilots I got.
- 6:06OK, that's that's great. Yeah, that's.
- 6:11That's amazing. Let's talk about movies instead,
- 6:13because I like movies. OK?
- 6:14Because your historical references clearly bother me.
- 6:17Wow. You're just talking about people
- 6:19that flew planes once. Like what?
- 6:21Oh, OK, cool. Whoa, what?
- 6:24People who flew planes once, Amelia Earhart, kind of a big
- 6:28deal. Oh, OK.
- 6:30This Captain Sully, I feel like he flew it way more than once to
- 6:33be able to expertly land in the Hudson.
- 6:35River He did expertly land in the Hudson River.
- 6:37I feel like they flew it more than once.
- 6:39That's true. So you want to talk about
- 6:42movies? Let's hear it.
- 6:43I. Want to talk about the movie
- 6:45Airplane? Because that movie was
- 6:48hilarious. Was hilarious.
- 6:51They did some stuff in that movie that would not work well
- 6:53in today's movie world, or not even a little current social
- 6:58climate, let's say. Not even a little.
- 7:00Because it was mostly like super sexist and racist.
- 7:03Yes. But for it's time, that was
- 7:06acceptable and it was hilarious it.
- 7:08Was hilarious for it's time, yes.
- 7:10But yeah, it would not. Who was the guy in the in the
- 7:13flight control tower was it? I.
- 7:17Don't. It wasn't Leslie Nielsen because
- 7:19they had a there was a, there was a moment in one of the naked
- 7:23guns, I think, where he was like in a flight control tower and he
- 7:26was losing his mind. But it was a spoof off of this
- 7:29guy who had, well, I can't remember his name.
- 7:31He was the older guy, white hair and he was like spilling his
- 7:35coffee everywhere and shorten out circuit boards.
- 7:38And that was hilarious, too. Yeah, yeah, there were lots of
- 7:41funny moments, but it definitely wouldn't fly today.
- 7:44Oh my goodness, bringing the jokes.
- 7:46Here we go. I was going to say it a little
- 7:48bit earlier, but then you're like chatty freaking Cathy.
- 7:50Yeah. I had to set you up for the
- 7:52right timing. You're welcome.
- 7:53I would have been better a little bit earlier, but that's
- 7:55OK. That's OK.
- 7:57No, I liked that movie. I've seen it a few times.
- 7:59I would not recommend it to much of the world today if you
- 8:02haven't already seen it, because then you're already desensitized
- 8:05to. All of so a lot of movies like
- 8:07that. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:08Especially a lot. Especially a lot of those spoof
- 8:11movies. But yeah, it was.
- 8:13I liked it back then. I probably would still laugh at
- 8:15it today and I would maybe feel bad about laughing.
- 8:19You probably would. You also much like the woman who
- 8:23was losing her mind on that plane.
- 8:25You would be like that woman if you were in a small enough
- 8:27airplane, losing your mind. You don't like small airplanes?
- 8:32I don't like any airplanes. I know one time we flew on a
- 8:35like AI don't even know what they call them.
- 8:37It wasn't like a regular sized airplane.
- 8:39Puddle jumper. No, it wasn't.
- 8:41I think a puddle jumper is like A1 propeller airplane, but it
- 8:44was very small. Like it had one row on one side
- 8:49of the plane of seats and two rows of seats on the other side
- 8:54of the plane. And there was only like maybe 16
- 8:56or 20 rows. It was real small.
- 8:58And we got in the plane and you were like, Oh, no.
- 9:00Get me off this. This is not good.
- 9:04That would have been a good time to have some of that.
- 9:06What's that? That motion sickness thing that
- 9:09makes you just leapy Dramamine. Yeah, knocked me out that.
- 9:12Would have been a good moment for some of that for you, no?
- 9:15We should maybe maybe do that when I get to the airport, like
- 9:17just have like I don't. Know just dose you up on
- 9:19Dramamine and go night night. Yeah, let me sleep.
- 9:22I'm ready to try it next time we take a airplane.
- 9:24Although the last couple times I don't think I've been bad, I
- 9:26will say I like the invention. And now this is where we're
- 9:29gonna sound old of having like your own personal thing to
- 9:33listen to or watch, you know? Like on your phones.
- 9:37Yes, my phones. But you know, I mean like that
- 9:39back in the day, I remember when there'd be like one big movie
- 9:42screen way up at the front of the plane and everybody was
- 9:46watching that one big movie screen.
- 9:48Or you brought headphones or earplugs or something.
- 9:52You could have brought a Walkman back in the day.
- 9:54You could. Have brought a Walkman.
- 9:55But you didn't have a screen. There was no you couldn't.
- 9:57I don't think there even was such a thing yet, except for
- 10:00giant laptops which I don't think anyone would have had in
- 10:03normal personal use back in the day.
- 10:04And they weren't gonna you'd play anything, right?
- 10:07I mean, maybe Oregon Trails. You weren't getting on the
- 10:09Internet. Yeah, there's no Internet in the
- 10:11sky now there is. Yeah, now there is.
- 10:14There was phones in the seats. I remember I think once maybe in
- 10:18my life, I paid whatever the fee.
- 10:20It was like a lot. I think it was like $10, which
- 10:22was at the time some insane amount to like call someone and
- 10:27say I'm calling you from the airplane.
- 10:28Ha ha. How cute.
- 10:30Wow, I did that. I don't ever remember seeing
- 10:32airplanes on the phone or phones on the airplanes.
- 10:36Snakes on a plane. Snakes on a plane, but I don't.
- 10:39Remember they were in the headrest and it wasn't, I think
- 10:41it was like 1, like if you were in a seat block of three.
- 10:44I think like one of them had a phone.
- 10:46Yeah, I didn't fly very much as a kid.
- 10:49As a kid I think I flew like twice.
- 10:51Before, well, when we started flying, I mean in our 20s, early
- 10:5420s, I mean, they still had ashtrays in the airplane.
- 10:57You couldn't smoke because they had like recently I think
- 10:59outlawed it. Yeah, maybe I don't.
- 11:01We should have looked that up. But I bet you it's like the Oh,
- 11:02did you? Funny.
- 11:04Tell. Why don't you tell us?
- 11:05OK, so on domestic flights it it became an issue and people
- 11:10stopped allowing smoking on planes on domestic flights in
- 11:141988, but it officially became a policy in 1990.
- 11:18However, OK international flights, you can continue
- 11:22smoking on international flights until 2000.
- 11:25That checks out. Why sometimes the airplane would
- 11:27have a smoke smell and you'd be like, man.
- 11:30I feel like there's still people smoking on planes because it
- 11:33smells like that in the bathrooms.
- 11:35You go in there. Not so much anymore.
- 11:37Now we got the vaping. I don't, I'm telling you.
- 11:40Really, I haven't smelled smoke in a airport or sorry, airplane
- 11:42bathroom in a long time. Do you go to the bathroom on the
- 11:44airplane very often? Sure, when I have to go to the
- 11:47bathroom on an airplane. I go every time I'm on an
- 11:49airplane. That's good.
- 11:50OK. And I will tell you a good half
- 11:54of the time it smells like someone's been smoking in that
- 11:56bathroom. What I find it funny is that
- 11:58they're like, we can't have smoke in a plane.
- 12:00Again, I don't think you should smoke on a plane, but they're
- 12:02like, we can't have smoking on a plane because it could cause a
- 12:05fire. Is that the reason?
- 12:06That's what they say inside the bathroom.
- 12:08They're like, don't do it. You could cause a fire.
- 12:10Well, literally there was people when you were flying back in the
- 12:141980s, seventies, whenever, you know, like the whole plane was
- 12:17on freaking, you know, everybody was smoking into these teeny
- 12:20tiny ashtrays. What a regular old bonfire in.
- 12:22There I, I, so, I mean, I don't think people should.
- 12:25It would be pretty awful, I'm sure for everybody on the plane
- 12:29except for the ones who are smoking.
- 12:31But I don't think I'm not, I'm not condoning that.
- 12:33My point is, I just think that can we just say it's maybe
- 12:36because of Clean Air Act or something?
- 12:38I'm in. Like that's not why because I
- 12:41mean how did the I mean? In Minnesota, you can't smoke
- 12:42like basically anywhere. Anymore true a lot of.
- 12:45And the whole country of Mexico outlawed smoking.
- 12:48You remember that? Yeah, we found that out last
- 12:49time we were there. It was like, I think they said
- 12:51it was like illegal to literally smoke in public anywhere.
- 12:53No, you could in the street. But not on the sidewalk.
- 12:57Right, right, right. So while driving but.
- 12:59Not, but this isn't a smoking episode.
- 13:02So that's true. Yeah.
- 13:04But it was just one of those things that has changed on
- 13:06airplanes since, you know, in my lifetime, you know, and yours
- 13:11for sure. But there's been a lot of
- 13:12changes to airports, too. That's very true.
- 13:16In my lifetime, I remember when my aunt would come out from
- 13:19California, Yep, and we would go right up to the gate, Yep, and
- 13:22just wait. Didn't even need ID, just.
- 13:24Nothing, nothing. I feel like my dad had to leave
- 13:28his knife in the car. That was that's the thing.
- 13:32Hey don't don't bring your your knife but everything else is
- 13:35fine. Everything else is fine, but
- 13:36yeah, he'd have to leave that in the car.
- 13:38Other than that, I mean you just watch your metal detector.
- 13:40And which? Oh, and they let you have
- 13:42beverages. Sure, why not, but not anymore.
- 13:46I don't remember bringing them onto planes because they also
- 13:49used to. Well, service on planes was a
- 13:51little different than it is now. That's true.
- 13:53Maybe flying back in the 1900s was more of a experience,
- 14:00whereas now it's just it's a transportation, you know, and
- 14:03you're right, it's. It's clearly become a method of
- 14:06transportation and the airline companies are not interested in
- 14:09your comfort. Right.
- 14:10Well, I mean in like back in the day it seemed like stewardess
- 14:13which aren't stewardess anymore, you know, flight.
- 14:15Attendant. Right.
- 14:16They were, their job was more to serve you, whereas now they're
- 14:19like, hey, we're safety patrol like essentially we're here to
- 14:21make sure everybody's safe and we'll probably get you something
- 14:25to drink and maybe no more peanuts.
- 14:28No, no more peanuts. But maybe you'll get it pretzels
- 14:31or something. I love is those little cookies.
- 14:35Oh yeah, the little ginger crunchy ones.
- 14:38Yeah, Biscoff, so good. That's what they're called.
- 14:41Those are, oh, future potential sponsor Biscoff.
- 14:43Y'all want to send us some free samples?
- 14:45We love. Those I am down for that.
- 14:47And I used to turn them down for a really long time.
- 14:49And then finally one day we had not gone.
- 14:51And if we didn't have time to stop to get a snack or anything
- 14:53beforehand and I was dying for something on the airplane, I
- 14:57thought, fine, I'll try your dry crusty cookies.
- 15:01I, I was like, how many times have I thrown these away or
- 15:04turned them down just wrong? Yep, they're so good.
- 15:07I like them. I'm a believer in those cookies
- 15:09personally. That is a change for the better
- 15:12I think, in airplane snacks. Well, that one, I mean, I feel
- 15:16like you used to get a lot more. I think they gave you like a
- 15:19whole meal. I do remember sitting on a plane
- 15:22when I was really young on, you know, and having a meal on the
- 15:25plane. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:26And they'd ask you. It wasn't very good though.
- 15:29There was one we went, I don't remember what plane it was, but
- 15:32they had like an option for maybe it was included, I can't
- 15:35remember. It was like a like a little
- 15:36quarter or a half a sandwich and whatever I got was actually
- 15:39pretty good. Like I was surprised.
- 15:41I could tell there were quality ingredients.
- 15:43It wasn't just like a sandwich out of a vending machine.
- 15:45It was like a good sandwich. I think there's a difference
- 15:48from where we fly to where other people fly, like, you know, the
- 15:51section of the plane, because I'm pretty sure up in first
- 15:54class they're getting meals we have to buy if we want.
- 15:58Probably, yeah. We're not first class people.
- 16:00No, we're not. Not yet.
- 16:02Well, I'm OK not being a first. Class I mean.
- 16:05So I did one time flying first class.
- 16:07Is it? Is it really that much better?
- 16:09It's pretty legit. Is it?
- 16:11I mean, OK, OK, is it worth whatever the difference is that
- 16:14I won't even look at? Probably not.
- 16:17I'm not. I don't have that kind of money
- 16:18to think about. I would pay more for a better
- 16:21seat cushion. That's my whole deal.
- 16:22Those things are low. I mean, I remember airplane
- 16:26flights not being horribly uncomfortable and but now, man,
- 16:32those seats are like, oh, it's like sitting on concrete.
- 16:35That's how all seats seem to be like.
- 16:37Car seats, I guess. Yeah.
- 16:38Car seats, too, have gotten less cush.
- 16:40Yeah, yeah. That's the wrong word.
- 16:42Plush. Is that the right word?
- 16:44That's the right word, yeah. I just don't think they it's not
- 16:46a priority anymore comfort in travel and again, which.
- 16:50Is the difference. Shame.
- 16:51Yeah, Yeah. It's no longer about the luxury
- 16:53of travel like that being the event.
- 16:55The event is not the seat in the in the, you know.
- 16:58What had the best seats? I was just thinking about this
- 17:01conversion vans, those vans that they, those were ridiculous.
- 17:04Basically was like they had couch seats in them like they
- 17:06were. So it was like a recliner built
- 17:08into the. I'd probably fall asleep driving
- 17:11one of those. Yeah, well, good news is.
- 17:14We don't have one. We don't have one.
- 17:15I don't. I wouldn't be opposed to getting
- 17:17one at some point a conversion van to drive, like do some cool
- 17:20cross country tripping or something like that.
- 17:22No. No, no, I won't because your
- 17:24face is not in. But we have talked about RV's.
- 17:27Right, very different. You should get a different
- 17:28vehicle. A conversion van feels like a
- 17:30really weird way to travel across.
- 17:32We would put some miles on an RV cuz we like to travel and we've
- 17:35been, I mean like I can't even this is messed up.
- 17:38But if you ask me right now, how many times we have flown
- 17:40somewhere, I actually don't know the number.
- 17:44We're we're blessed to have been many places, right?
- 17:50Many times. So we've been on a lot, a lot of
- 17:53flights and been through a lot of different airports, some
- 17:56mostly for good reasons, some for, you know, yeah, you know,
- 17:59not so fun reasons, family events where someone has passed
- 18:01and they live far away. And.
- 18:03But for the most part, our flights have been for pleasure.
- 18:06Yes. Yeah.
- 18:06And we've, I think started flying on the regular when we
- 18:10got married. Pretty sure.
- 18:12Did we start before that? Maybe.
- 18:14I'm sure. I'm sure we started a little bit
- 18:16before that. I don't think so.
- 18:17Because I remember flying right before a certain big event that
- 18:21changed airport security forever.
- 18:25Yeah, that's 2001. Yeah, Yep, we.
- 18:29Got married No 3. Yeah, a lot of Luke's family is
- 18:33from the East Coast, so any time he wanted to go see them, we
- 18:37would hop a plane. Every rare once in a while we'd
- 18:40drive, which is a whole another topic.
- 18:42One day we'll discuss. That's a new we have a driving
- 18:44episode. Yep, that's that's been locked
- 18:46in since the beginning, just like airports.
- 18:48Yes, yes, but, but no. So we've been through a lot of
- 18:51airports in it's. Probably over 50.
- 18:55I will say I think that my anxiety 50 that sounds
- 19:00excessive. Well, if it was since, let's say
- 19:02since 2000, it's 2025, do you think we've averaged twice a
- 19:05year? I bet it's closed.
- 19:07On an airplane in general, Sure. Yeah.
- 19:09Yeah. Because you have to go there and
- 19:12back. Oh, I wasn't thinking of like
- 19:14that. And plus, we used to do now now
- 19:15we have the luxury of on purpose doing nonstop only.
- 19:17But back in the day, it used to be what's the cheapest?
- 19:19And there was always a connecting flight.
- 19:20Yeah. I mean, I sometimes like
- 19:22connecting flights. I don't.
- 19:25I mean. Just get me there.
- 19:26A smaller amount of time on a plane for me is actually good,
- 19:29but I think that my anxiety on planes have has definitely
- 19:31gotten better. I used to be so like panicked
- 19:35about them and you know, I just, I'm glad that I'm not quite
- 19:41there. It's not I'm it's not my
- 19:42favorite thing to do, but I can. You are still cute.
- 19:46If there's turbulence you like, grab my hand.
- 19:49If you're awake, you sleep through every.
- 19:51Oh no, you wake me up if there's turbulence and grab my hand.
- 19:53It's cute. Oh, OK.
- 19:54Well, I'm not trying to wake you up, you know.
- 19:56Well, somehow you'll save me from the turbulence.
- 19:58Yeah, for sure. No problem.
- 20:01Our kid too. If there's bad turbulence, she's
- 20:03worried she'll grab my hand. It's cute.
- 20:05Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:07Well, anyhow, So what we have differences in in how we travel
- 20:12together. One of the things that we were
- 20:16going to talk about this actually last week, however, I
- 20:20said hold off, hold off because I had known about something that
- 20:24you didn't know about at the time.
- 20:27OK. We usually always travel
- 20:30together. That's true.
- 20:32At one point in time, I had traveled alone once on an
- 20:35airplane ever in my life. Are you talking about Louisiana?
- 20:38Well, yes, OK, yes. So anyhow I had had quite the
- 20:42trip. It was amazing.
- 20:45The flight scenario was bonkers and I, it was bonkers.
- 20:51It was a bunch of setbacks, a bunch of follies, like just
- 20:54unbelievable things coming back that had happened.
- 20:57Oh yeah. And.
- 20:58That's a story. It's a story and I thought it
- 21:01was a story and everybody I've told the story thought it was a
- 21:04story for sure. And I listened to this podcast.
- 21:10OK. Do you mind if I talk about this
- 21:12right this second? OK, so I listened to this
- 21:13podcast that I really love. It's called Petty Crimes.
- 21:17And they ask people to submit, you know, some sort of wonky
- 21:20antics or, you know, petty crimes is what they're looking
- 21:22for. So that's actually a crime.
- 21:24Well, sometimes it. Is sometimes.
- 21:25Sometimes it is, but not. But they were asking for, and
- 21:27they always do just kind of like we ask for people to write in,
- 21:30you know, topic ideas. They ask for, hey, send us your
- 21:33petty crime and we'll talk about it.
- 21:35And they'll read, you know, they'll read whatever the letter
- 21:38is and, and talk about the scenario.
- 21:40And they have opinions, obviously about the people who
- 21:42are in the letter for sure. A lot of times they're telling a
- 21:45lot of jokes about the person who writes the letter, you know,
- 21:48and I had had this just absurd scenario that happened.
- 21:52I thought, I've got to write this into these folks because I
- 21:54love them. Just they're so funny.
- 21:57They're hilarious. I wrote into them, I don't know,
- 22:01months and months ago. OK.
- 22:03And then we start our podcast. Yep.
- 22:06And I saw this topic on there and I was like, gosh, I wish I
- 22:09wouldn't have given away that great story.
- 22:11I'm going to keep listening and see if she ever use it.
- 22:15Well, they didn't. And then we go on our trip right
- 22:18before our trip. I'm like, well, we're clearly
- 22:19gonna talk about airports in our next podcast.
- 22:21Yeah. And I say I write them a letter.
- 22:25Yeah. And I say if you're not gonna
- 22:26use it, that's. Fine, I'm gonna just point out
- 22:28again. Write them a letter, an e-mail,
- 22:31e-mail. Sorry.
- 22:34So I write them an e-mail and I say, hey, by the way, I know I
- 22:37gave you the story, haven't heard on this.
- 22:38You got people out here thinking you got a pen and paper out.
- 22:42No, I typed it, so I have. Me and my husband have started
- 22:47our own podcast. This is a phenomenal story to
- 22:49me. Maybe it's too long for you and
- 22:52that's fine. If you're not gonna use it, I'd
- 22:55like to use it on our podcast because it's a great story.
- 22:58Well, we go on our trip, come back and they're like, by the
- 23:02way, they respond to me. So glad that you emailed us
- 23:06because we did just record the episode with your letter on the
- 23:11show. Did I say?
- 23:12Letter. You did.
- 23:13It doesn't matter. However, whatever, it's the same
- 23:16basic concept. It's so.
- 23:17Funny that you're saying. Letter.
- 23:18Same concept anyhow, so they said Yep.
- 23:22Or the producer. Wow.
- 23:23Oh, look at me talking to producers.
- 23:25Shout out to petty crimes getting us up there come.
- 23:28Over via e-mail? Yep.
- 23:30But you know, I'm talking to producers.
- 23:31Do we get a mention? Can we get a mention?
- 23:33Well, I don't know, but what I'm going to do right now is just
- 23:35say it was I after we got back, you know, about a week ago, they
- 23:40send me the the e-mail saying that they had recorded it.
- 23:43They had a great time with my letter and they're like, it's on
- 23:46our Patreon. And I was so excited.
- 23:49Soon as it dropped, I listened. I couldn't stop laughing.
- 23:53I. Did they make it like funnier
- 23:55than what yours was or? Like my letter was hilarious
- 23:58because I am pretty freaking funny.
- 24:00I. Did not say you weren't with
- 24:02your face. That's.
- 24:03Kind of what I heard anyhow, but it was really funny and it was
- 24:08fun to hear cuz I thought I didn't know how much they're
- 24:09gonna drag me, you know, because, well, they can do that.
- 24:12You're like, hey, here's my thoughts and they're gonna have
- 24:14their opinions about it. But I, you know, I thought that
- 24:17it was very nicely done and they only had a few little critiques
- 24:20about things. But did they side with you?
- 24:22Yes, yes. That it wasn't cool for you to
- 24:25have run across the entire airport to get there in time.
- 24:28That was one of the problems I had.
- 24:30I gave. That to me was the biggest.
- 24:32Thing. What?
- 24:33Really. Where they were like, yeah, you
- 24:34can't actually get on the plane. We sold your seat to someone
- 24:36else and you were like, but I'm here and I have the ticket.
- 24:39Here's the ticket. Right.
- 24:41No, that was not the worst part to me, but I.
- 24:43What's the worst part to you? So I'm not going to go too much
- 24:46into detail because it's like an hour long discussion And yeah,
- 24:49that's. Like talking.
- 24:49About something else. But I would encourage anyone who
- 24:52was listening who was curious, you know, reach out, maybe we'll
- 24:55talk about another time or listen to Petty Crimes on the
- 24:58Patreon to hear the episode. It was just released.
- 25:03It's hilarious. And I would encourage you to do
- 25:05that. So, but I wanted that story for
- 25:08our podcast. And then I got to thinking, we
- 25:10don't need that story. That's what we can use it
- 25:13whenever we want because. We have lots of crazy stories.
- 25:15We've had to deboard a plane. I don't remember deboarding.
- 25:18Oh yeah, it was that was the time when we were going to.
- 25:22It might have been our last Florida trip before child
- 25:26arrived where we got rerouted. Our flight was supposed to go to
- 25:31Fort Myers and they had to take us off the plane because there
- 25:35was a there was like a broken part of the plane or something.
- 25:38But we had sat on the runway for like an hour and then they made
- 25:41us get off the plane or like that plane's not flying today.
- 25:44That's literally what they said. We were like, what?
- 25:46Oh my goodness, this. Bird's done.
- 25:49Oh, thank. You we were like, good.
- 25:51I'm glad we got off the plane and found out before we were in
- 25:53the air anyway. And then we got on another
- 25:57flight, but we were really mad because they made us to get to
- 25:59our destination on time. In our case, I don't know, this
- 26:03was everybody, but we had to go to Tampa, which is like 2 1/2
- 26:05hours north of Fort Myers. Right.
- 26:08Right. So that was one of the times we
- 26:09had a sort of a crazy thing happened to us.
- 26:12We've had, I mean, I would say in general, we don't have too
- 26:15many crazy things that happened to us.
- 26:17True. Well, the craziest one that ever
- 26:18happened to me was the one in Arizona where, Oh my goodness,
- 26:23they just kept, I mean, plane after plane after.
- 26:26No, we're not flying this well, you got bumped off of this one.
- 26:28Bumped off of that one. I ended up sleeping in the
- 26:30airport. Yeah, you're dead.
- 26:32It was terrible. Well, and I think it's
- 26:34interesting because we both have different times where we're not
- 26:39feeling or being our best selves in, in, in their, in that
- 26:44travel, if we're flying. Right, that was eloquently put.
- 26:46I. Know, so I want to say like in
- 26:48levels of emotional unrest. Uh huh.
- 26:53Like for me, it's totally on the plane.
- 26:56I'm a freaking nervous wreck. I just want to get off the plane
- 26:59as soon as possible. I don't want to hear anyone
- 27:01talking about bad things on a plane.
- 27:03I don't want to see a movie or anything like that about a
- 27:06plane. Nothing.
- 27:07Don't. I can't even stand to hear.
- 27:10Well, I'd rather have snakes on a plane versus what my brain is
- 27:12doing in imagination. But I hate when they come out
- 27:15with the safety card and they're like, oh, these are the things
- 27:17I'm in the. Event of a water landing and
- 27:19you're like these things. Right, right.
- 27:21I'm just like, I don't want to ever think that that's a
- 27:23possibility, you know? So that's where I'm just
- 27:26completely at unease and Luke a little different place.
- 27:30Yeah, I get a little bit, I get a little bit hot at the airport.
- 27:34Yeah. Before the plane part happens.
- 27:37Yeah. And this has been a thing since
- 27:39forever. The whole time we've been
- 27:41together. Probably maybe my whole adult
- 27:43life and it all just hinges around it's, you know, do we
- 27:46have enough time? That's, and that's kind of like,
- 27:49I think a lot of my life is like that cuz I don't like being late
- 27:53for anything really. Well, OK, you're shaking your
- 27:58head. But for the most part, I mean,
- 27:59I'm sure there's exceptions, but for like, I'm not a person who
- 28:03wants to get up at the last minute to go to work.
- 28:05I like to have some, you know, nice comfortable lead time.
- 28:10So if I work at like 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning, I want to
- 28:13get up at like 5 or 6 and have conkers.
- 28:15Well, I mean, but for me, I feel comfortable with that because
- 28:19then I've got, I don't need to feel like I'm in a rush.
- 28:22I could just have everything work out real nice.
- 28:25And I think it's like that not just for, I mean, I like to get
- 28:28to movies a little bit early. Like I don't want like it, you
- 28:31know how you got 20 minutes of previews or 30 minutes of
- 28:34previews and the movie starts at 7:00.
- 28:36I don't want to get there at 7:00.
- 28:38I want to get there at like 6:45 because then I feel like I got
- 28:42time to, you know, do the pre movie stuff before.
- 28:45I don't know. I like being to places generally
- 28:47a little bit early and I don't think there's anything wrong
- 28:50with that. I don't think there's anything
- 28:51wrong with that being something you like, right?
- 28:56I will say like if you just lived in your own bubble, that
- 29:01would be fine. However, almost all the time
- 29:05when you're traveling, you aren't traveling alone.
- 29:08That's true. And you want the whole world to
- 29:11be how you are. More of a like a need.
- 29:16A need? Yeah.
- 29:17Do you understand the difference between a want and a need?
- 29:20I do. OK.
- 29:21You would like everyone to do what you want to do, but at the
- 29:25time you want to do it. So let's say we have a 8:00 AM
- 29:28flight. OK.
- 29:29We never have a 8:00 AM flight. You like to fly at 6:00 in the
- 29:32morning, you're like we need to be up 4 hours before the flight
- 29:37to be at the airport. All these things, you know and
- 29:39all of that. I personally don't think you
- 29:42need to get up that much earlier if you're prepared the day
- 29:44before, you know, like it just the whole you're frantic.
- 29:50And. And sometimes not very nice in
- 29:52your franticness. Not sometimes all the time.
- 29:55Very unkind. Well, it's a known sum and I'm a
- 29:59predictable person. I don't, I don't know about
- 30:03that. I mean like.
- 30:05It's definitely predictable. I mean, it's predictable, but
- 30:08you know, it's like you're not usually as easy to set off as I
- 30:13know when we're flying, you know, that you're going to just
- 30:17be, you know, it's like kind of just steer clear out of Luke's
- 30:21way. I mean, you're making me sound
- 30:23like I'm some sort of anger. I'm not saying that problem
- 30:26person. I just want to be clear that I'm
- 30:28not not saying we're talking about getting getting getting
- 30:32anxious and bitchy. We're not talking about getting
- 30:34mean and four letter word. That's a 5 and 6 letter word if
- 30:38you add to Y and then and they say it on TV now so.
- 30:42That's fine. Yep.
- 30:44I mean, I will. So anyhow, there's you're
- 30:47wanting everyone to do your way and I'm like, if I'm going
- 30:51somewhere, if I'm on vacation, it starts immediately after my
- 30:54last second of work. So if that's a day before at
- 30:585:00, I'm done. Then at 5 O1 I'm like, I'm on
- 31:00vacation, you know? I like that.
- 31:03Yeah, yeah. And so I feel even before I get
- 31:06to the airport and when I'm at the airport, I'm not on vacation
- 31:08in the airplane that is not a, it doesn't count.
- 31:11But every other moment around that, I'm on vacation.
- 31:14So feel good. I feel cheery.
- 31:16I feel just at ease. And I'm a I'm a pretty, pretty
- 31:19easy person on vacation. I'm I'm fine with all everything
- 31:24except if we're late. Well, OK, Luke, let me ask you a
- 31:28question. Yes, and ladies and gentlemen,
- 31:31this is the moment I have been waiting for all night.
- 31:35In this corner, claiming to weigh in at 125 lbs, we have the
- 31:40red haired spicy amber. Go ahead.
- 31:45He's ready. And heated people.
- 31:48He's so heated. I don't know why he's so heated.
- 31:50He'll maybe reveal it during the show.
- 31:52But in this corner we have Luke, who is wearing.
- 31:55Seriously, I think this is such a bird, such a cute shirt.
- 31:58This the orange bird from Florida.
- 32:00He's just makes me happy, the bird.
- 32:03Check out the video, people. The bird's.
- 32:05Cute. Yeah, he's really cute.
- 32:06Anyhow, we have Luke and he is claiming to weigh in at over 185
- 32:11lbs. I don't know how much less than
- 32:12that. Got a nice beard here.
- 32:14I think if I tickle it, he might be a little nicer to me.
- 32:17Oh no, no, I was wrong. We are also a little contentious
- 32:23today I think because there is no clear winner on our debates.
- 32:28We are at a tie. Maybe it just means we either
- 32:31pick good topics that people are into or we're good at arguing.
- 32:35Or we're bad at arguing. I don't think so.
- 32:37I don't either. I feel like I would not want to
- 32:39get in the ring with you or me if I was any of the people I
- 32:43know. No offense, any of the people I
- 32:45know. Most people aren't willing.
- 32:46I'm just saying we're we're like pro level arguers.
- 32:50Yeah, most people or they'll. Just I got points and counter
- 32:53points on stuff I don't even know about yet.
- 32:55OK, well, great. So talking about things you
- 32:57don't even know about what? That's the question I have for
- 33:01you. OK.
- 33:03Is Luke do you? Out with it now.
- 33:11So wow, he's even impatient. OK, fine.
- 33:14Now it's like we're about to go fly somewhere.
- 33:16I'm ready. Let's go.
- 33:18Somewhere is there. OK, so do you have to get to the
- 33:21airport 2 hours before your flight?
- 33:25Why? Do you?
- 33:27No, no problem explaining the answer to that.
- 33:29Not why do you? First of all, yes, yeah, because
- 33:36pretty much all of the airports for a point of clarity that are
- 33:43international airports recommend that.
- 33:45That's when you get there. They do.
- 33:48That is a recommend hour and a half to two hours is the
- 33:50recommendation at Minneapolis International Airport, which is
- 33:55like probably one of the smaller ones for Minneapolis versus
- 34:00like, I mean versus Chicago, New York, you know, like we're a
- 34:04we're a big metro to us, but we're a small metro to the rest
- 34:07of the country. So if you get me to AI mean I
- 34:10might add some time on to that. If you were in LA or New York, I
- 34:14might be like we need to put another half hour on there.
- 34:16And then you also they add time if you're flying
- 34:20internationally, which we've done also many times, we're
- 34:24supposed to add another half an hour for customs.
- 34:27So the answer is yes, you should get there super early.
- 34:31And because in our house, there's a specific reason it's
- 34:34because if we don't, I am a hot mess.
- 34:39I mean, I want to have everything lined up.
- 34:41We got to know when's, when's the transportation showing up to
- 34:45our house to pick us up or are we driving to the airport?
- 34:47I got to know that because it changes when we leave.
- 34:50Also, I got to know about, sometimes I want to know more
- 34:54than the day before. Also, I got a plan ahead for
- 34:57traffic. I got a plan ahead for parking.
- 35:00I mean, I got a plan ahead for there's all kind of stuff and
- 35:03that's not even you got to the airport yet.
- 35:04How about sometimes you get to the airport and your plane
- 35:07moved. Sometimes you'll get to the
- 35:10airport and you'll think, well, the plane is at gate number H9
- 35:14and you get there and they'll be like, Oh no, it's not.
- 35:16It's at B12 and you're like what?
- 35:18B12? That's the whole other side of
- 35:20the airport. That's the problem because you
- 35:22now you just had like 15 minutes of walking.
- 35:25How you going to account for that if you just get there like
- 35:27an hour or an hour and a half early?
- 35:29I'm just saying, and, and the standard boarding time is 45
- 35:33minutes ahead, unless it's an international flight, then it's
- 35:36an hour. So I'm just saying there's a lot
- 35:38of situations going on here where there's a lot of little
- 35:42cracks and holes where if you don't get there with ample time,
- 35:45what if you have a traffic issue?
- 35:46What if you what if you get a flat tire?
- 35:49What if What if when you are trying to find a parking spot,
- 35:54you can't and you end up finding a parking spot that's further
- 35:57away or it's on a different parking level?
- 36:00What if you get into the airport and you have a problem at the
- 36:03security check in or it's a busy travel day and you need to like
- 36:07wait in the line way longer? What if when they're checking in
- 36:10your bags, you're over the 50 LB weight limit and you got to move
- 36:13stuff out of one bag into another bag or throw something
- 36:15in the trash and you got to make a decision about what you're
- 36:18bringing back or what you're leaving it.
- 36:20I mean, all the list goes on and on and on.
- 36:24And then how about when you get to the boarding?
- 36:25What if there's a problem border that happens sometimes.
- 36:28I've seen that sometimes people, they'll be bored and it'll be a
- 36:32problem and they'll be like mad and causing a scene and then
- 36:34that slows the whole boarding process down.
- 36:37There's just so many things and so many variables.
- 36:40I could probably go on for hours and hours, but you know, for the
- 36:43sake of the listener, I won't do that.
- 36:45I would just say the answer to this is yes.
- 36:48And this is coming from some seasoned veteran Flyers.
- 36:52I mean, if our count is right and we're close to 50 times.
- 36:56Over 50. And that would make it way over
- 36:5950 airplanes because you add in connecting flights from back in
- 37:03the day and different airports. We've gone through all the
- 37:06major, I think we've gone through every major airport in
- 37:08the United States. Whoa do.
- 37:12You know what? We haven't gone.
- 37:13Through I don't know. The Denver airport.
- 37:16Have you gone through the Denver airport?
- 37:17Yeah. Did you know about that?
- 37:18Airport. Sky Harbor.
- 37:19Isn't that what it's called? No, that's Phoenix.
- 37:21Phoenix. Is Sky Harbor No?
- 37:23No. Maybe it's Mile High.
- 37:24No, that's the stadium. No, it's like DIA or something
- 37:27like that. Denver International Airport.
- 37:28Wow. Yep, it's DIA.
- 37:30You're gonna tell me they're the best airport or something?
- 37:31I'm not gonna tell you they're the best airport, but did you
- 37:33know that there's a lot of conspiracies around?
- 37:35That you have said this to me. There's like some supposed to
- 37:37live someone lives there. No, no, no, no.
- 37:41But there is. There's a lot of conspiracy
- 37:44people were saying, like it was built by the New World Order or
- 37:47maybe it's ran by the Illuminati.
- 37:49OK, well the banter section of this day has been passed, so
- 37:53we're in debate mode right now. Wow, you can't talk about
- 37:55anything other than yours. I can't believe you wanna bring
- 37:57up the Illuminati right now. I'm on a roll.
- 38:00I thought you were done. Oh, you thought I was done your.
- 38:02Your topics here you. Had to take notes and you I.
- 38:05Did have to take notes. You can't even keep up with how
- 38:08it would listen. What if your what if your taxi
- 38:10was late? What if what there's I get even
- 38:14a little a little bit right now I can actually feel my blood
- 38:17pressure and heart rate. Even getting mad.
- 38:19Being I, I could feel almost like the anxiety as if this were
- 38:23to happen because we've had crazy stuff happen.
- 38:27Not often, but. Enough.
- 38:28Like here, I was so traumatized by the, I think what is it,
- 38:332019? I don't remember when I got
- 38:35stuck in the airport in Phoenix. I mean, that made it worse
- 38:39because she put me through a couple of bad situations in the
- 38:42airport and I'm like, well, I know what fixes this.
- 38:44Get here earlier because that's the answer.
- 38:46It's not outside of them rounding the plane.
- 38:49Which they did to you on that air on that.
- 38:52Scenario. That's a different scenario, but
- 38:56most of the time the problems are related to not getting there
- 38:59on time, which we just had happen when we came back from
- 39:02Florida. We were late, not because it was
- 39:05anyone's fault, we just didn't plan ahead and we thought we
- 39:08were going to. Oh, you want to think this is my
- 39:09fault, please, whatever. Anyway, we had met a friend in
- 39:12Florida. We had a great day.
- 39:13We were hanging out and we just didn't leave in time.
- 39:16We thought we had enough time and we didn't.
- 39:18And then the traffic was worse than we thought it was going to
- 39:20be. Turning the rental car in was a
- 39:22little bit more problematic than we're used to because it was on
- 39:24like a whole nother floor and you had to take an elevator and
- 39:26a tunnel to get to the anyway. So there was that and then
- 39:30checking in our bags feeling already very late cuz I think we
- 39:33got there like 1 hour ahead of the flight time.
- 39:36And then we did have to do that weight thing where they say
- 39:38you're over 50 lbs. So now you gotta move something
- 39:40out of the bag and do another bag and then reweigh it and then
- 39:43and then and then we get to security and go to security and
- 39:48our daughter forgot to empty her water bottle.
- 39:50I. Thought you said the background
- 39:51discussion time was. Over.
- 39:53No, I said banter was over. We're in debate mode.
- 39:57I'm giving you reasons why you gotta show up early.
- 39:59So when your child forgets that she has water in her water
- 40:01bottle, guess what security says?
- 40:03What's in this water bottle? And you go water and they're
- 40:06like, you can't go through security with that.
- 40:08And I'm like, cool, dump it out. And they're like, Oh no, you
- 40:11it's not that simple. You got to go Outback through
- 40:13security, dump it out yourself and come back through security.
- 40:16And I'm like, well, hold on. What's the difference between
- 40:19just dumping it out right now in front of me anyway?
- 40:21They wouldn't let me. So I had to go out of back all
- 40:23the way around, back to the front of security, dump the
- 40:25water bottle out, come back through security that adds
- 40:28another, you know, whatever, 710 minutes, who knows?
- 40:32And then you ride the little tram over.
- 40:34What if the tram doesn't? I'm just saying there's so many
- 40:37things. And then and then you get over
- 40:39there and what if the gate moved?
- 40:40I don't think the gate moved on that one but they did lose one
- 40:43of our bags because of how late we showed up.
- 40:44Which. No, that's not they.
- 40:46Actually, per set, actually, they got two of our three bags
- 40:50on the plane. But I'm betting you money, real
- 40:53money right now, we'll never prove it, but I bet you a clean
- 40:55hundred that if we'd have got there earlier, they've figured
- 40:58it out. OK, And then, and then you get
- 41:01on the airplane. Now I'm done.
- 41:03Probably. Maybe.
- 41:04You're not. I'm sure we'll see.
- 41:06So just just really quickly about that plane that or.
- 41:09I'm still mad. That air I know you are.
- 41:11This is what I lived with before hopping on a plane every
- 41:14freaking time. Like just in like I I can't
- 41:18even. But to be clear, that's only if
- 41:19we're not there early enough. This is not true.
- 41:22That is true. I can't even talk to him about
- 41:23anything that is maybe light hearted or phone or something
- 41:26like that. You even know.
- 41:27Shut down everything if it doesn't go my way.
- 41:30That if we get there early enough, I'm actually pleasant.
- 41:33No, I did not actually say. OK, you sure did.
- 41:35I'm sure that's not. OK, well maybe that's what our
- 41:38child said. Because early enough is not
- 41:42necessarily what you and I think are not necessarily the same.
- 41:44Now back to that lost bag, which is always a problem.
- 41:47It wasn't actually lost because we were late.
- 41:50It was selected for additional screening and there was a note
- 41:55in there that had been processed.
- 41:57Like the TSA had actually looked at that bag.
- 41:59That's why our bag didn't make that flight.
- 42:01Had nothing to do with the other.
- 42:03Day. I bet it had a water bottle in
- 42:04it. No, no, actually it had.
- 42:07So you remember our well, we had a few things that were in there
- 42:10that we bought as souvenirs that were apparently problematic.
- 42:13And they're like, but everything that you had in here, they said
- 42:15something looked off, but everything that you had in here
- 42:17actually was OK. So they had inspected our bag,
- 42:21extreme inspect, inspection of our bags.
- 42:23So that had nothing to do with it.
- 42:26Now I don't think you need to be there 2 hours early because
- 42:32personally I have flown one time, well twice on my own and I
- 42:38was not there two hours early and there was no need.
- 42:41Now I happen to be a far less, I am not uptight before going on a
- 42:48flight because here's the thing, everything's going to happen the
- 42:51way it needs to happen. My getting there two hours
- 42:54early, if I've already planned what I'm doing with my vehicle,
- 42:58if I'm parking there, if I'm taking a taxicab, those
- 43:00decisions already made, I don't need to leave an extra hour on
- 43:03top of anything on top of that to be at the airport 2 hours
- 43:06early. I don't need to do that.
- 43:08I figured that out. I think part of this is a
- 43:10planning scenario that maybe I do in my head, then maybe you
- 43:13don't. Now the concept of gait changes
- 43:16that you were talking and by getting to the airport, you're
- 43:17like, hey here, it's at gate H and then you end up going to
- 43:20gate G or whatever. Before I get to the airport.
- 43:24When I'm traveling with you, we don't have our tickets.
- 43:27We don't know what gate we're at, right?
- 43:30We don't know until we get into the airport what gate we're at.
- 43:33So getting there early, if they change that, it's not going to
- 43:36make a difference if I'm past security, if they change the
- 43:39gate or if I'm not because they're going to change the gate
- 43:42regardless. And that has nothing to do with
- 43:43that 2 hour or 1 1/2 hour window.
- 43:46I mean, if they've changed it at an hour and a half out from the
- 43:48flight, I would know that when I got my ticket.
- 43:51Then they instead of it saying H, it'd be like you're at gate
- 43:53G. Great, I'll go to gate G.
- 43:56So I'm not understanding this, do you?
- 43:57Want a little update because I need to tell you you actually
- 43:59get your gate on the boarding pass which you get mobile leave
- 44:02before you get to. The air, which would be
- 44:03wonderful, but you never give me my boarding pass.
- 44:06You need to hold everybody's boarding pass, so like you just.
- 44:10I've also had a gate change when I was at the gate.
- 44:13Great. Getting there two hours early
- 44:14wouldn't change that because then that means everybody is
- 44:17going to be going over to the next date and there's going to
- 44:19be a delay. A lot of the things you talked
- 44:21about were actually delays. Deep breathing.
- 44:27Were actually delays that would have happened whether you got
- 44:31there an hour and a half early, 2 hours early or not because it
- 44:33happens to be on the other end of it, right?
- 44:35Like if you're talking about things changing at boarding,
- 44:38well, good God, it wouldn't matter if you're there two hours
- 44:41early, it's still going to change a boarding, you know,
- 44:43which is, according to you, 45 to an hour beforehand.
- 44:46So like that is that is sort of an interesting thing.
- 44:50And and you were talking about boarding boarders who would slow
- 44:53down the flight. That's why you also have to get
- 44:55there two hours early. That doesn't make any sense
- 44:56because if there's someone boarding the plane who's slowing
- 44:58down the flight, again, it doesn't matter if you're an hour
- 45:01and a half early or not, you know, like to two hours, that
- 45:03would make a difference. So I think a lot of what you're
- 45:08your concerns are, well most of them are outside of your control
- 45:13of getting there two hours early.
- 45:14And so that's why I don't, I mean it doesn't necessarily make
- 45:19you feel any better. But for me when I get there an
- 45:21hour and a half early, all of these same things could happen
- 45:25or not. And I'm totally fine with either
- 45:28way. What I don't like that we have
- 45:30to do when we go to the airport, one of the many things is like
- 45:34charge through the airport to go to the gate and then after we've
- 45:37gotten to the gate, then we can go do other things unless.
- 45:40That's because then we know everything is OK but it unless
- 45:43there's a plane issue. Right, right.
- 45:45But I'm like, I know the boarding's gonna be in, you
- 45:48know, 30 minutes or whatever. The flight's not supposed to
- 45:50take off because we get there two hours early.
- 45:52Because you do lose your flipping mind.
- 45:54We don't need to. We can just take our time, you
- 45:56know, and you know, maybe I want to grab some food or I want to
- 45:59look at a shop, you know, and you're just no go.
- 46:03We must go and then you can go back.
- 46:04I'm like. Well, that's not true.
- 46:05We always get food. I eat all the time when I'm at
- 46:09the airport. Always get.
- 46:10Food and we go to little shops every time.
- 46:12Right after you've walked to the gate.
- 46:14It's because we got there two hours early.
- 46:16If you got there a half hour later, you got no time to do it.
- 46:18Well, no, because I would still just do it on the way to the
- 46:20gate. But we're not saying we're not
- 46:23saying airport arrival. We're talking like get to the,
- 46:26the, the, the, the location. Yeah, two hours or where you
- 46:30have to park. And so I'm not talking like in
- 46:33the door. I'm talking arrive there, which
- 46:36has always been the thing. Well, preferably the thing for
- 46:39me, yeah, I'd take, I'd take 2 1/2 if I if I could get.
- 46:42It. I know you would, but.
- 46:44You won't let me. I have 0 desire to.
- 46:46Sit in an airport for another hour.
- 46:48Do you happen to remember the one time that you were like, we
- 46:51must be there 2 hours early and we get there two hours early?
- 46:53This has happened more than once.
- 46:55Yes, because you like to fly early in the morning, You like
- 46:57to be on that first flight. That's right, I do.
- 46:59And there's been more than one time where we sat at the airport
- 47:02and the airport wasn't even open.
- 47:04Yeah, so like they don't even and.
- 47:07These are even international flights full of times.
- 47:09Yeah, a handful of times. And it's just like we're just
- 47:11sitting here waiting. We can't get past security.
- 47:14Go look at anything. Yeah, that's like when we got
- 47:16there at 5:30 for a 730 flight, but the airport opened at six.
- 47:19Yeah, yeah. I'm just saying I don't really
- 47:21see this. But how nice is that?
- 47:22You're there. It's not.
- 47:24Yeah, I could have been home. Sleeping for another half hour
- 47:27instead of sitting there just waiting and doing nothing to
- 47:30maybe you know, distract some of where your anxiety is before the
- 47:36boarding the plane. You're not fine until you board
- 47:37the plane. Once you board the plane, you're
- 47:38like perfect, no more trouble. That's true.
- 47:41My anxiety is once I'm on the plane so.
- 47:44But that's coming. And like you said, to counter
- 47:46what you were talking about, that's coming regardless.
- 47:49I agree. I agree, but like I'm just
- 47:51saying I could have more time doing other things than sitting
- 47:54in a flipping airport waiting and running back and.
- 47:57Forth that's not true because the extra 30 minutes you want
- 47:59would be stuck with me losing my mind that's.
- 48:03What I do, I just wake up later so they don't.
- 48:04Have to sure you think I'd let you sleep?
- 48:07Anyhow, I think it's ridiculous to be at the airport 2 hours
- 48:10early for most flights. I can see some flights,
- 48:13especially if you know you're going to be traveling
- 48:15internationally. OK, fine.
- 48:16We're talking about national. I'd say 2 1/2 if it's
- 48:20international. I'm not.
- 48:21We're not even gonna have that debate.
- 48:23Thankfully, we don't need to have that debate right now.
- 48:26But I'm saying that's a little bit of overkill.
- 48:28And for our airport, it's not needed.
- 48:31For many airports, you don't even need an hour and a half.
- 48:33But for our airport. What airports do you not need an
- 48:36hour and a half for? Ones that we go to out east.
- 48:40OK, sure. Like the Little?
- 48:41Like like Burlington or Syracuse or.
- 48:44Or when I went to Baton Rouge, that most is a beautiful.
- 48:47Airport. How many?
- 48:48How many? Real quick, How many gates did
- 48:50they have? I don't know 4.
- 48:52Yeah, that's, I think like Burlington had four, Syracuse
- 48:55had eight. It was.
- 48:56So cute, and the people there were so nice and everything
- 49:00started off so great on Yeah, sure.
- 49:02And then it went extremely down. I think the bigger the airport,
- 49:06the more early I wanna get there.
- 49:08I think I maybe I don't really I think, yeah, I don't want to.
- 49:14I mean, and now that we have pre-check and all of those
- 49:16things, the concept of getting there so much earlier is just
- 49:19wild to me. So my my vote now that we've
- 49:23done that, especially is that no two hours to our airport for a
- 49:27national flight or to most people's airports.
- 49:29OK I'm gonna say LAX and that horrible 1 is a GfK that I don't
- 49:35like or LA. Guardia.
- 49:36Yep, both. GfK I don't like either of them.
- 49:39And DC's got a couple that are rough, like Ronald Reagan, DCA.
- 49:44That one's tough. Yeah, that's the one with those
- 49:46crazy Star Wars looking buses where they have like the big 8
- 49:50foot tall tires and you like drive back and forth.
- 49:53It's those are weird, right? I'd actually like to own one of
- 49:56those just to drive it around. That's interesting.
- 49:58But anyhow, that's that's my answer is 2 hours is excessive
- 50:02most of the time and I no, I don't think you need to be there
- 50:06that early. I think it just honestly adds to
- 50:10the anxiety of not being able to relax.
- 50:14Well then I appreciate that you've already semi conceded the
- 50:18argument in real life by allowing us to get there early.
- 50:20Because I am a freak show. You are a freak show and if
- 50:23anyone noticed like. So I appreciate that you have
- 50:26increased your anxiety preflight by decreasing my anxiety
- 50:31preflight. I appreciate it but it's pretty
- 50:33rough because I know I'm bad. You do.
- 50:35For sure. You are not an.
- 50:37I'm not. I'm not a.
- 50:39Self knowledge you. Don't wanna like hang out with
- 50:40me pre flight. No, I like you said, you Get Me
- 50:44Out of the airplane. It's all good.
- 50:45Now we're on the airplane. Yeah, you're all good.
- 50:47It's night and day, I mean, but like I have to live with you
- 50:50from that. It's just.
- 50:52It's also a little rough on the day of the flight getting the
- 50:56bags to the car and doing the final house check and I'm a
- 51:00little bit of a mess. The second you wake up.
- 51:03The good news is we go on vacation after after that part
- 51:06and then we're there. Yeah, see my I'm telling you,
- 51:09I'm telling you the way I live, it's vacation.
- 51:12The moment I'm done with that work for however long, it's
- 51:17nice. Well, here's open.
- 51:18Our next vacation has a nice two hour plus no airport arrival.
- 51:22No, no. That gets us to a great,
- 51:24beautiful destination. We could meet at the airport.
- 51:27Not in a million years cuz then your lack of presence would make
- 51:32my anxiety like even worse. Ohh my goodness.
- 51:36You could. I'd be freaking out.
- 51:37What if you're not gonna get here on time and you're gonna
- 51:40miss the flight and you're we've almost missed a flight before?
- 51:43We have missed a flight before, but that wasn't our fault.
- 51:45That's right. We got stuck in DC for like 12
- 51:47hours. Yeah.
- 51:48I don't know if it was 12 that. Was probably my brother's fault.
- 51:51I don't know. Well, I mean, it was the free
- 51:53ride's fault, but I'm not gonna. So they were like, you can't
- 51:57board the plane. It's an hour until your flight
- 51:59and we're like, well, I could totally get to that gate within
- 52:02an hour. Yeah.
- 52:03It's the thing that drives me bonkers when the air cuz this is
- 52:06one of the things that happened. And they don't tell you.
- 52:08They don't tell you. They don't let you try.
- 52:10Yeah. They're like, oh, well, you
- 52:11won't make it. You're like, well, I'm fast.
- 52:13Yeah. You don't watch me run.
- 52:14You don't know, I mean, like that's the thing, like he was
- 52:17talking earlier about the flight that I had, you know, written
- 52:19into this. That's.
- 52:20All Rouge. Yeah, well, the Baton Rouge was
- 52:23not the problem. Baton Rouge Airport if you
- 52:25happen to have to fly into Louisiana.
- 52:27No, it was your connector. Yeah, it was a beautiful flight.
- 52:30Beautiful. Well, no.
- 52:33Yeah, Beautiful flight, beautiful airport.
- 52:35People were so friendly and kind.
- 52:37I just. I still felt like I was being
- 52:39taken care of. It was.
- 52:40Just cuz they're just living down there off beignets and
- 52:42crawfish. I know.
- 52:43Well, anyhow, that was one of the problems was that the
- 52:47airport, assuming I couldn't make it into a flight that I
- 52:50knew I could make it to, I will Macaulay Culkin and I have
- 52:53Macaulay Culkin across airports to make what I need to.
- 52:57But also when I was in Chicago, in that airport, I had to
- 53:00Macaulay Culkin run because just like in that hallway, you need
- 53:04to do it. I should be seeing everybody
- 53:06running up and down that hallway.
- 53:08It was so fun to do. But anyhow, if I think if I can
- 53:11make it, let me make it. Let me try.
- 53:13I want to get on the plane. You want to get on the plane.
- 53:15Yep, like don't even say I can. Plus you paid for the ticket.
- 53:18Right. Just let.
- 53:19I mean let it happen. Well, they like to open.
- 53:21Now you said Macaulay Culkin got me thinking about Home Alone and
- 53:23Christmas. Oh God, I did.
- 53:26Oh, that's your fault. No, no, no.
- 53:27I love. Christmas.
- 53:28Well, happy November, everybody. Happy November.
- 53:31Yes, but anyhow, that's where the bait.
- 53:33I don't think you need to be there 2 hours early.
- 53:35Luke does vote for whoever seems more reasonable.
- 53:38Me. Oh it's for sure me to avoid all
- 53:40the problems in stress. You're not avoiding any of them.
- 53:42They all still are gonna happen. That's not true.
- 53:45Based on my notes that I took, well, that's because.
- 53:47You didn't listen to all the things that actually slow you
- 53:49down, like traffic and and. So how do they vote for us,
- 53:52Luke? On Spotify is the real true
- 53:55answer. You can also vote on social
- 53:56media, but we'd like it to get more just to Spotify because
- 53:58it's easier for us to keep track of.
- 54:00A lot easier. Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 54:02What should they do? They should check us out on any
- 54:06of the platforms that they see us on and then tell their
- 54:10friends that we exist there. Yes.
- 54:12Like Apple, yeah, and Spotify, which we're on right now and.
- 54:18We're on all the platforms. Iheart and Yep, I don't know.
- 54:21You should share this with your friends.
- 54:22Yeah, and share this with your flying buddies.
- 54:24Download it before a flight. Yeah, and get there early.
- 54:28I mean, get there whenever you need to, but share it.
- 54:32Follow. Follow us so you can find out
- 54:34when the next great episode is coming out.
- 54:36It's predictable. Yeah, it is.
- 54:39Yeah, it. Is but you get the reminder like
- 54:41it pops up on your thing like hey, these people are back on
- 54:43and rate US. Yes, please.
- 54:45We're currently five stars. I realized that today as well.
- 54:48We can't. Do it too loud cuz it'll be yeah
- 54:50but 5. Watch now.
- 54:51Somebody will just drag us. Please don't, but whatever
- 54:54comment, we love your comments. We'd love to see what you think
- 54:57about us. And we don't really know how we
- 55:00do until after we listen to it a little bit later.
- 55:02So I'm feeling a little chill about it but.
- 55:05I'm excited we got to do microphones.
- 55:07It sounded pretty good on the last podcast.
- 55:08It sounded really good. Really good.
- 55:10And if you have the ideas, write them in to us.
- 55:12Yeah. Yeah, wheels up people.
