- 0:00Speaker 1: A little after three o'clock here on a Thursday, means
- 0:02Speaker 1: Saints practice is wrapping up. Ross Jackson over at Louisiana
- 0:05Speaker 1: Sports dot Net does have a participation report to go to,
- 0:09Speaker 1: and there is really good news for the New Orleans Saints.
- 0:12Speaker 1: That is that Caesar Ruiz returned to practice. So what
- 0:16Speaker 1: you'll remember is heading into the week, all the focus
- 0:18Speaker 1: was on Eric McCoy and Lucas Patrick along the offensive line,
- 0:22Speaker 1: as they both missed the game obviously on Sunday against
- 0:24Speaker 1: the Rams. They returned Wednesday, but then Caesar Ruiz was
- 0:27Speaker 1: not seen Ruiz.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Back at practice.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It's a concussion that has been holding him out, so
- 0:32Speaker 1: you still have to go through the protocol. But if
- 0:34Speaker 1: he's returning to practice, albeit maybe in the limited capacity
- 0:37Speaker 1: or whatnot, we'll wait for the official injury report to
- 0:39Speaker 1: come out a little later. That is a major positive.
- 0:42Speaker 1: If you're looking at the New Orleans Saints, I mean,
- 0:44Speaker 1: obviously you're not seees no real surprises, no Taysom Hill,
- 0:51Speaker 1: no Bud Mean the Bove means Roger team or Nick
- 0:53Speaker 1: Salutavaia all guys you kind of expected maybe to not
- 0:56Speaker 1: see there. But it looks like now if Ruiz can
- 0:59Speaker 1: continue practice, clear that protocol. You'll have your offensive line
- 1:02Speaker 1: intact to go up against the New York Giants. And look,
- 1:04Speaker 1: the running game is going to be huge in that matchup, obviously,
- 1:09Speaker 1: especially with Dexter Lawrence being out on the other side
- 1:12Speaker 1: for the New York Giants. And when the Saints offenses
- 1:15Speaker 1: functioned at its best, it's all been off of the
- 1:18Speaker 1: running game, play, action, the motion, all that stuff.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So that is good.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Mike Triplett from New Orleans Dot Football, he'll be here
- 1:24Speaker 1: in his normal spot at five point fifteen. A little
- 1:26Speaker 1: bit later on we'll get his take on Ruiz things
- 1:29Speaker 1: that happen at practice, and much bigger picture stuff around
- 1:33Speaker 1: the New Orleans Saints as well. But anything else that's
- 1:35Speaker 1: stuck out that stood out, I should say, Mike will
- 1:38Speaker 1: be here a little bit later on in the show.
- 1:40Speaker 2: But there you go.
- 1:40Speaker 1: That's kind of your participation report. Good good news for
- 1:44Speaker 1: the Saints, at least through the open portion that the
- 1:46Speaker 1: media was allowed to see. Caesar Ruiz returns and you
- 1:49Speaker 1: have a chance, a chance to have your offensive line
- 1:53Speaker 1: fully intact when the Saints head up to the Meadowlands
- 1:56Speaker 1: to face the Giants. All Right, we had this on
- 2:00Speaker 1: a rundown to talk about yesterday, but just with the
- 2:02Speaker 1: whirlwind of everything dealing with signing day, it kind of
- 2:05Speaker 1: got bumped. Jeremy Fowler over at ESPN had I report.
- 2:10Speaker 1: It was actually a really lengthy piece. It was him
- 2:13Speaker 1: and Dan Grasiano just going through a lot of things
- 2:15Speaker 1: dealing with the off season and whatnot. You know, moves
- 2:18Speaker 1: for you, a big, long, ex sensive piece and at
- 2:21Speaker 1: the bottom it was just the section of like what
- 2:24Speaker 1: else are you hearing? And it was in that section
- 2:27Speaker 1: that Jeremy Fowler went to the Mickey Loomis angle. And
- 2:32Speaker 1: obviously Dennis Allen has been ousted as the Saints head coach.
- 2:36Speaker 1: We know that, and everyone's been asking and in some
- 2:40Speaker 1: cases calling for Mickey Loomis to be next. And that's
- 2:45Speaker 1: always been an interesting conversation because of Mickey's so close
- 2:49Speaker 1: to that organization, to Gail Benson, the session, but all
- 2:52Speaker 1: of those things that we know we don't need to rehash,
- 2:55Speaker 1: and it's always been like, Okay, Mickey's untouchable. So when
- 3:00Speaker 1: Jeremy Fowler reports that these Saints are unlikely to move
- 3:04Speaker 1: on for Mickey Loomis, it shouldn't come as a surprise,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and that is the report that the Saints are unlikely
- 3:10Speaker 1: to move on for Mickey Loomis, meaning it's him that
- 3:13Speaker 1: will be hiring the next head coach, It's him that
- 3:15Speaker 1: will be responsible for the draft and trying to trying
- 3:19Speaker 1: to bring this franchise out of the darkness that it
- 3:22Speaker 1: is in large part because of moves that he's made.
- 3:26Speaker 2: But that's where you are now.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I am in no way surprised that, as we just
- 3:34Speaker 1: covered this up, that Mickey Loomis is likely to return.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I will also tell you I don't think that's in
- 3:41Speaker 1: the best interest of the franchise. I think it's time
- 3:44Speaker 1: to move on for Mickey Loomis, not because I think
- 3:47Speaker 1: Mickey's a bad guy or anything of that nature. I'm
- 3:50Speaker 1: just firmly planted in that camp as well, that the
- 3:53Speaker 1: New Orleans Saints should distance themselves from just about everything
- 3:56Speaker 1: in the previous era and start anew See plenty of
- 4:00Speaker 1: teams do it. It's sick in the NFL. You kind
- 4:02Speaker 1: of have to at some point, and I think the
- 4:04Speaker 1: Saints are at that point of have to. Is my
- 4:09Speaker 1: confidence shaken in Mickey Loomis, Yeah, it is that too,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and I will tell you. That mainly comes from just
- 4:17Speaker 1: the stubbornness and defiance and condescension that has been on
- 4:23Speaker 1: display in public from Mickey Loomis in the media, whether
- 4:27Speaker 1: it's him just constantly defending Dennis Allen even when it
- 4:30Speaker 1: was so far past the defensible, the chomping of the.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Gum in the press, country, anything that we any of
- 4:39Speaker 2: the audio.
- 4:39Speaker 1: That we've played for you for Mickey Loomis really over
- 4:41Speaker 1: the last year, and some change.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Is enough to shake my confidence in that.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Because I don't want somebody leading my organization that is
- 4:50Speaker 1: publicly displaying stubbornness in defiance, and that's not what I will.
- 4:54Speaker 1: That doesn't paint a pretty picture. But where you are
- 4:58Speaker 1: is Mickey Loomis will be the guy to hire the
- 5:01Speaker 1: next coach unless something changes, and again that shouldn't be
- 5:07Speaker 1: a surprise. The Saints are. They admire continuity, they admire relationships,
- 5:12Speaker 1: They value all of that.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Stuff so much.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And that brings us to the second part of the
- 5:18Speaker 1: report from Jeremy Fowler.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Not only was he talking Loomis, he talked head.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Coaching candidates that you should look out for for the Saints.
- 5:27Speaker 1: And it's a lot of names that you've heard with
- 5:30Speaker 1: one thrown in that you haven't and really, when you
- 5:35Speaker 1: look at the Saints, this is the first time you've
- 5:38Speaker 1: seen reports from a incredible NFL insider like Jeremy Fowler.
- 5:45Speaker 2: As to.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Names mentioned, the first one is Aaron Glenn and obviously
- 5:52Speaker 1: that makes a lot of sense, and Aaron Glenn will
- 5:54Speaker 1: get a head coaching job in the NFL this year.
- 5:56Speaker 1: He's been phenomenal as the defensive coordinator up in Detroit.
- 5:59Speaker 1: And yes, the Saints absolutely figure in heavy to that.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Spent time in New Orleans on staff a long time
- 6:05Speaker 1: under Sean Payton, obviously has a relationship with the organization
- 6:07Speaker 1: all those things that.
- 6:09Speaker 2: They value. Would be a first time head coach.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Joe Brady was another name, and I know we've all
- 6:17Speaker 1: had the Joe Brady conversation around here, but Joe Brady
- 6:19Speaker 1: was on staff with the New Orleans Saints.
- 6:21Speaker 2: It's been a.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Whirlwind of journey from him, whether it be at LSU
- 6:24Speaker 1: to the first and as an NFLOC with Carolina that
- 6:27Speaker 1: not working out, taking the quarterback coach job at Buffalo,
- 6:30Speaker 1: getting INTERMOC and then the permanent OC and Buffalo's offense
- 6:33Speaker 1: has been pretty darned good.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Now you have a lot of great players. How would
- 6:37Speaker 2: Joe Brady do as a head coach?
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm not sure, but it's the young offensive mind that
- 6:41Speaker 1: everyone in the NFL is after.
- 6:43Speaker 2: That type of guy.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Ben Johnson is gonna be the name that everybody mentions
- 6:46Speaker 1: the most when talking about that.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Is he attainable? I don't know.
- 6:49Speaker 1: We've all had that conversation too, but Jeremy Fowler did
- 6:52Speaker 1: throw out.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Joe Brady would also be a first time head coach.
- 6:57Speaker 1: The last name he threw out was Vance Joseph, the
- 6:59Speaker 1: defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos, who of course is
- 7:02Speaker 1: from New Orleans, New Orleans, Louisiana went to Shaw. Everyone's
- 7:09Speaker 1: kind of familiar with that, So there's the tie there.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I will tell you, and again, all very early in
- 7:17Speaker 1: the process, right just reports just names to watch from
- 7:22Speaker 1: an NFL insider, I will tell you on that list
- 7:26Speaker 1: that we just ran through the n ain't the ion
- 7:30Speaker 1: equivocally do not want is Vance Joseph Because how did
- 7:36Speaker 1: we start this whole conversation. We started with saying you
- 7:40Speaker 1: need to distance yourself from anything in the past of
- 7:42Speaker 1: the New Orleans Saints, and while Vance Joseph isn't immediately
- 7:45Speaker 1: in the past of the New Orleans Saints like that
- 7:47Speaker 1: isn't exclusively him there. The whole idea of that is
- 7:53Speaker 1: literally what you just got away from Vance. Joseph spent
- 7:57Speaker 1: two years as the head coach in Denver. He went
- 7:59Speaker 1: eleven and one, a defensive head.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Coach with a well below five hundred record as a
- 8:05Speaker 2: head coach.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You that's just what you had in Dennis Alum, You
- 8:09Speaker 1: know how tough of a set of a cell that
- 8:12Speaker 1: would be for Mickey Loomis.
- 8:15Speaker 2: In my opinion, that's an impossible cell.
- 8:18Speaker 1: And I get it, there were extenuating circumstances the personnel
- 8:23Speaker 1: and Denver at that time was all Paxton Lynch.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And brock Eyes, Austwiler and all those guys at quarterback.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I get it.
- 8:29Speaker 1: But the same excuses were made with Oakland and could
- 8:32Speaker 1: be made with Oakland and Dennis Allen's there as the
- 8:34Speaker 1: head coach, you'd be going into the exact you'd set
- 8:37Speaker 1: yourself up for the exact same thing that you literally
- 8:41Speaker 1: just had to get out of. To me, that would
- 8:45Speaker 1: be an impossible cell. And out of the three names there,
- 8:47Speaker 1: it's the one I am least high on potentially for
- 8:50Speaker 1: the Saints. Ever going down that path, I would rather
- 8:55Speaker 1: these Saints hire a first year head coach than another retread.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And if that's Aaron.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Glenn, okay, as much as I want you to distance
- 9:07Speaker 1: yourself from the past, at least that is a breadth
- 9:12Speaker 1: of fresh air. I don't know if they want to
- 9:14Speaker 1: go back to back defensive head coaches. I think that's
- 9:16Speaker 1: a tough sell. Clint Kubiak could make it an easier one, though,
- 9:20Speaker 1: because that definitely seems like a hit for the New
- 9:22Speaker 1: Orleans Saints.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Now, could another NFL team come and poach him? Sure?
- 9:26Speaker 2: Does the new head coach want to retain him?
- 9:29Speaker 1: All things you have to all things you have to
- 9:31Speaker 1: look through, like all things you have to go through
- 9:33Speaker 1: and decide and let play out. But as tough of
- 9:39Speaker 1: a cell as another defensive head coach coming in, that
- 9:41Speaker 1: could make it easier if I had my way, Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 1: I'd go with the young offensive guy too. I don't
- 9:47Speaker 1: know if that should be Joe Brady, but you've seen
- 9:50Speaker 1: him have good odds for this job, and now you
- 9:52Speaker 1: see Jeremy Fowler reporting like, okay, keep an eye on
- 9:55Speaker 1: that guy for the New Orleans Saints and there are ties,
- 9:58Speaker 1: and if there's if you're move moving on from the past,
- 10:02Speaker 1: you know, step by step. If you're moving on the
- 10:04Speaker 1: past like the New Orleans Saints seemed to be trying
- 10:06Speaker 1: to do. Your Brady doesn't have a very long history
- 10:09Speaker 1: with you, so that does go there. We're early in
- 10:13Speaker 1: the process, but just thought i'd throw that out there.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Given that's a guy well connected in the NFL throwing
- 10:19Speaker 1: out three names for you, that's kind of where I stand.
- 10:22Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 10:22Speaker 1: So Mickey loomis expected to be back, no big surprise there,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and there's three names to maybe look at for head
- 10:27Speaker 1: coach there in the future of New Orleans
