- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the very warm, warm self.
- 0:34Oh my gosh, we are baking. And today is an interesting
- 0:40subject because for me, I absolutely love being able to
- 0:45have summer weather because it means flowers, it means
- 0:48everything else. But when the days when they tell
- 0:50me the heat index is going to be 109 and I start to think about,
- 0:55Oh, no, I can feel immediately my anxiety start to run to the
- 1:01front of my bus along with my certainty girl and panic and all
- 1:06of these other emotions that are like my, what I like to refer to
- 1:10as my hover mother. Because I panic over whether or
- 1:14not things are going to be able to survive in this, in in this
- 1:19arena of temperature and how intense it gets.
- 1:22And the first things I think of is, Oh my gosh, what am I going
- 1:25to do to protect the plants? What am I going to do to take
- 1:27care of the animals? How are the chickens going to be
- 1:29able to do this? Now listen, here's the thing.
- 1:32I don't keep my chickens quote UN quote cooped up all day long.
- 1:35They are free ranging. They're able to go and hide.
- 1:38They will dust bathe. They can go under the coops
- 1:40where it's cool in the dirt. There are two main coops, one
- 1:44that's theirs and one that used to be theirs, but they can still
- 1:47go under it. They have water everywhere,
- 1:49trees everywhere, shade everywhere.
- 1:52They get an afternoon snack. Yesterday they had a huge giant
- 1:55watermelon that was cool and they spent the whole day tearing
- 1:59it apart and it was just, it was OK for them.
- 2:03And they had this huge tree that they like to hang out under.
- 2:06Plus they like to go in my flower garden and bury
- 2:09themselves under flowers, which I think is very funny that we
- 2:12battle over where they're sitting if they're sitting on a
- 2:15flower. But the point is 1 condition
- 2:19changes. I wake up, I check my weather
- 2:21app and I see it and all of a sudden all the nuts on the bus
- 2:26are running to the front of the bus trying to panic and figure
- 2:29out what are we going to do? Right down to, well, how are we
- 2:32going to walk outside today while we're coaching?
- 2:34What are we going to do? Because we can't walk outside
- 2:36and that's not good because it's going to be.
- 2:38And so I'm like, no, you can sit inside your studio, you can
- 2:42pace, you can ride the bike. And the reason I'm telling you
- 2:46all of this is because all these motions, if I left them
- 2:49unchecked, would be all over the place.
- 2:53And I can't function when they're all over the place.
- 2:56So the most important thing I can do is to pull them back and
- 2:59control them immediately and get them very, very centered on what
- 3:03is the real outcome, What are we doing?
- 3:06And the real outcome is do everything you can to keep
- 3:10everybody cool and taken care of, including yourself.
- 3:13Work in the studio, sit on the bike and ride the stationary
- 3:16bike if you have to, to keep moving, because that's part of
- 3:18the whole dynamic of what I do. When I coach, I move, move, move
- 3:23and I, I really truly believe that when you have this
- 3:28awareness, you can pull yourself out of the dregs of what's going
- 3:31on in your head, but you have to initiate the plan ahead of time.
- 3:36So as soon as I felt it, I had to say, OK, what is my backup
- 3:40plan? What am I going to do?
- 3:42How am I going to do this now? I initiated part of this last
- 3:46night. I had a feeling today was going
- 3:47to be this way because of what they were talking about and they
- 3:50were going to give their, you know, we'll have a more accurate
- 3:53thing in the morning kind of deal.
- 3:55But I put out all fresh waters. I changed everything.
- 3:58Like, I mean, bird baths are full.
- 4:00Everything is set for this day. And I've got sprinklers running
- 4:06right now to make sure everything has enough water
- 4:09going into the day. Yet I had to stop myself again
- 4:14this morning multiple times from having the panic and having the
- 4:17anxiety of what if. What if they cook?
- 4:20What if something happens? What if somebody gets heat, heat
- 4:23stroke? What if this, what if this?
- 4:25And the truth is, I can catastrophize all I want.
- 4:29I can sit there and think about all the things that could go
- 4:31wrong, or I have an option to circumvent that by thinking in
- 4:37terms of what could be right, what have you done right?
- 4:40What are the protections? What are you looking at?
- 4:43And by doing that, I end up in a much stronger position to keep
- 4:47pulling myself out of it as need be.
- 4:50So first and foremost, once you have the awareness, you set the
- 4:54plan, will you have to keep redirecting?
- 4:56Yes, 100 times, yes, yes, yes, and yes.
- 4:59But you got to keep going back to what the new plan is.
- 5:01You got to keep thinking it through that way so that you
- 5:04have a release of that energy. Because if you don't release
- 5:07that energy, it will take over your day, I promise you.
- 5:11And today it will probably have to be redirected by me multiple
- 5:14times. So the good news is I have a
- 5:18plan. The good news is I'm initiating
- 5:20the plan over and over. I'm checking in with myself and
- 5:23I'm making sure. So I encourage you to do the
- 5:26same. And I hope that your day is not
- 5:28as hot as mine and we will get through this.
- 5:32All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:34will see you tomorrow. Bye.
