Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: And let's go to Washington. So Iran's already said not
- 0:03Speaker 1: to Trump. This is on his call to open the
- 0:06Speaker 1: effing straight Wednesday, New Zealand. Time is the deadline, and
- 0:09Speaker 1: there was talk of a ceasefire, plans for a ceasefire
- 0:12Speaker 1: that Iran has already rejected. In forty five days. Trump
- 0:15Speaker 1: and Higseeth, they've been speaking at a press conference at
- 0:18Speaker 1: the White House about the rescue of the us EM
- 0:20Speaker 1: and at the weekend.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Where we're doing unbelievably well, well at a level that
- 0:24Speaker 2: nobody's ever seen before. The entire country could be taken
- 0:27Speaker 2: out in.
- 0:27Speaker 1: One night, and that night might be tomorrow night.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Are special operators, pilots, and support crews performed with near
- 0:34Speaker 2: perfection under fire, and they were lethal. Just ask any
- 0:40Speaker 2: Iranian soldier who dared attempt to get anywhere near that
- 0:44Speaker 2: pilot or during that mission.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Kate Fisher feature story News in DC for US this morning. Kate,
- 0:51Speaker 1: good to have you on the program. Sounds like quite
- 0:54Speaker 1: a well, a massive mission involving heaps of aircraft.
- 1:00Speaker 3: That's right, hundreds of them. Donald Trump clearly very proud
- 1:04Speaker 3: of his military, very impressed by this kind of undertaking,
- 1:10Speaker 3: and delighted that it all happened without any further casualty
- 1:15Speaker 3: on the US side. He says that twenty one aircraft
- 1:19Speaker 3: came to help rescue the airman who ejected when his
- 1:24Speaker 3: plane was struck down by the Iranians, and Donald Trump
- 1:27Speaker 3: described how he was bleeding profusely but still managed to
- 1:31Speaker 3: climb up into this ridge on the side of a
- 1:33Speaker 3: mountain until he could be found by Percy Well, the
- 1:36Speaker 3: CIA located him, and then to be found by the
- 1:39Speaker 3: US military to be rescued.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely fascinating. So what happens from here? You know,
- 1:45Speaker 1: Trump's obviously made ultimatums, but he's made these ultimatums before
- 1:48Speaker 1: in Iran as clearly calling as bluff.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Absolutely, he's saying, he's reiterated double down that this new
- 1:56Speaker 3: deadline that he put on social media over the weekend
- 1:58Speaker 3: of Tuesday at eight pm Eastern time here in Washington.
- 2:03Speaker 3: My master is not good enough to work out what
- 2:04Speaker 3: time that is for you, but that that's essentially tomorrow evening,
- 2:09Speaker 3: that he will be obliterating Iran if they do not
- 2:14Speaker 3: reopen the Strait of Hormos. As you just mentioned, Iran
- 2:17Speaker 3: rejected a peace plan that was put forward by these
- 2:20Speaker 3: intermediaries Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, but it did submit its
- 2:24Speaker 3: own ten point plan to the Americans, and Donald Trump
- 2:28Speaker 3: said that this was a significant proposal, but he said
- 2:31Speaker 3: it wasn't good enough, although he acknowledged it was a
- 2:34Speaker 3: significant step. So it does sound as if there is
- 2:36Speaker 3: diplomacy going on in the background, but at the same time,
- 2:39Speaker 3: publicly the US certainly well from both sides, the rhetoric
- 2:44Speaker 3: is very aggressive. You've got Donald Trump and his members,
- 2:49Speaker 3: you know, have Pete Heggs has just left the lectern
- 2:51Speaker 3: at the White House. The head of the CIA is
- 2:54Speaker 3: also spoken, the General of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
- 2:57Speaker 3: This is all the top people involved in this mission
- 3:00Speaker 3: speaking at the White House. Kind of in this lap
- 3:03Speaker 3: of glory, lap of victory over this rescue of and airmen.
- 3:06Speaker 3: It doesn't sound like kind of dialing down of the
- 3:10Speaker 3: rhetoric or the violence. But at the same time we
- 3:14Speaker 3: understand diplomacy is happening.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Catty, appreciate your update. Katie Fisher UIs correspondent for US
