- 0:00Speaker 1: Foot Part four powered by the Inside of the Birds podcast,
- 0:02Speaker 1: brought to you by the Fanatic sports book Ocean Casido
- 0:05Speaker 1: Resort in Atlantic City.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Adam Kaplan's in the house today, just set to join us.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Just a couple of moments Eagles and Broncos, couple betting
- 0:14Speaker 2: trends on the game.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna share with you before Adam jumps on board
- 0:18Speaker 1: here to try to help you make a couple of
- 0:20Speaker 1: bucks in the game. You know, the Eagles are a
- 0:24Speaker 1: favorite in the game three and a half. Excuse me,
- 0:26Speaker 1: five and a half. The number is forty four and
- 0:29Speaker 1: a half is the over under. The Eagles are nine
- 0:33Speaker 1: and three against the spread in their last twelve games.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Is a favorite.
- 0:36Speaker 1: They are five and one in their last six against
- 0:39Speaker 1: the spread. They are three to zero against the spread
- 0:41Speaker 1: in their last three. Could you imagine a team that
- 0:44Speaker 1: has all these problems and they keep covering. The Broncos
- 0:47Speaker 1: are zero and four against the spread in their last
- 0:50Speaker 1: four road games. So this is a team that has
- 0:53Speaker 1: struggled on the road in terms of covering the spread.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And of course, the Eagles at five and a half
- 1:01Speaker 1: point favorite. The Eagles injury report is out to Kobe
- 1:04Speaker 1: Dean is the only one on the injury list that
- 1:08Speaker 1: will not play in the game. Everybody else so far
- 1:12Speaker 1: is a full go. Johaan Campbell did not practice today
- 1:15Speaker 1: for a personal reason, but he should be good to
- 1:18Speaker 1: go for the game on Sunday. Let's take a look
- 1:21Speaker 1: at it right now. It's Football at four Adam Kaplan
- 1:23Speaker 1: from the inside the Birds, podecap, team platforms, and right
- 1:26Speaker 1: here on Football at four Adam.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Happy Friday, Yes, sim do.
- 1:29Speaker 3: You my friend? Week five Eagles will host the Broncos
- 1:32Speaker 3: on Sunday and beautiful weather. It's gonna be It's gonna
- 1:36Speaker 3: be a good day. We got the Phillies of course,
- 1:37Speaker 3: sandwich into on Saturday and Monday. It's gonna be a
- 1:40Speaker 3: really good sports weekend. Let's hope for the locals that
- 1:44Speaker 3: it turns out well.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Well, let's dive into some of the things that we're
- 1:47Speaker 1: gonna be keeping an eye on for this one here
- 1:49Speaker 1: and the Eagles. You know, how about uh, you know,
- 1:51Speaker 1: one of the talks all the way back to Tuesday,
- 1:54Speaker 1: we had Vic Fangio uh talking about a possible lineup
- 1:57Speaker 1: change and how it could impact the Eagles defense, what
- 2:00Speaker 1: happens at corner and how could it impact this game
- 2:02Speaker 1: on Sunday.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yeah, let me explain how coaches this is strictly from experience. So, okay,
- 2:08Speaker 3: Dorry Jackson clearly won the starting job, but was never
- 2:11Speaker 3: close over Ringo. We've outlined this now for three years.
- 2:15Speaker 3: What Ringo's problems are. Stiffness, unable to stop and start,
- 2:19Speaker 3: transition stuff, really good straight line speed, size, all that. Right.
- 2:23Speaker 3: He has actually improved Mike over the last two years,
- 2:27Speaker 3: but not nearly enough. And this is two years in
- 2:30Speaker 3: a row. He clearly got beaten. Was never close between
- 2:33Speaker 3: him and Rodgers than him and Dorry Jackson. Now you
- 2:36Speaker 3: fast forward to now, right, So Jackson was the start.
- 2:39Speaker 3: He got hurt. He had not he d not been
- 2:40Speaker 3: playing well. Mike, he got smoked in the first game,
- 2:43Speaker 3: really did not play well, inconsistent after that. So some
- 2:46Speaker 3: good snaps, I'm not as good and then he has
- 2:48Speaker 3: a groin injury. So it's this time now coaches do
- 2:53Speaker 3: not believe that a player, you know, if he gets hurt,
- 2:56Speaker 3: that he can't lose his job. That that adage is gone.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I thought that was true when I first started coming
- 3:00Speaker 3: to the league. No, it's about performance and look Ringo,
- 3:06Speaker 3: as we noted on inside the Birds. When the balls
- 3:09Speaker 3: and I thrown to him, he moved well. One source
- 3:12Speaker 3: so I spoke with said that saw two staffs where
- 3:14Speaker 3: he would have been being had the ball been thrown
- 3:16Speaker 3: to him. Now, the guy didn't say a touchdown, He
- 3:18Speaker 3: didn't elaborate, but as Vic said, Vick was not lying.
- 3:22Speaker 3: He was sticky. That means you're on your guy. He
- 3:24Speaker 3: didn't get away from you, so that's important. But again
- 3:26Speaker 3: he barely got thrown at. So to me, in a
- 3:29Speaker 3: matchup like this, Mike, when they played Denver, Who's got
- 3:32Speaker 3: one of the deepest receiver corps, They've got size, they've
- 3:35Speaker 3: got to speak. Courtland Sutton is a really good football player,
- 3:38Speaker 3: big guy right, who's been in the league a long time.
- 3:41Speaker 3: He's overcome an acl andry, really good football player. Marvin
- 3:44Speaker 3: Mims and Tory Franklin could flat out fly. Pat Bryan
- 3:48Speaker 3: was one of my favorite receivers for the draft. He's
- 3:51Speaker 3: their fourth receiver out of Illinois. He's a rookie this
- 3:53Speaker 3: year and they have enough to challenge whoever plays opposite him.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So the way that you have wait this corner position
- 4:01Speaker 3: opposite Mitchell is we're at the point now, who looks
- 4:04Speaker 3: the best in practice. Now that Jackson is seemingly over
- 4:07Speaker 3: his injury. He he took some work today. You know,
- 4:09Speaker 3: he actually took a lot of work today. But it's
- 4:11Speaker 3: a Friday practice. What does the tape tell Vic Vangio
- 4:15Speaker 3: in terms of, Okay, this looks good. You know what,
- 4:18Speaker 3: we're gonna play this guy. So that's how I'll answer that.
- 4:21Speaker 3: That's where he has to be at this I'm sorry
- 4:24Speaker 3: Jackson was not good enough to keep the job. That's
- 4:26Speaker 3: the that's the point. Another way coaches think when you
- 4:29Speaker 3: have uncertain at a position. He opened up a can
- 4:31Speaker 3: of worms. What he said, Oh, he didn't roll out
- 4:33Speaker 3: when he was asked it was a good question. Could
- 4:35Speaker 3: could could? Could Ringo keep the job? He said, it
- 4:37Speaker 3: could happen. It's possible, right, I said it's possible. So
- 4:41Speaker 3: he could have said no, I don't see that. He did,
- 4:44Speaker 3: you know, you know of fact? Yes, Mike, before we
- 4:49Speaker 3: move on, what you just said is the point. When
- 4:52Speaker 3: Vic shoots something down, he shoots it down. He doesn't.
- 4:56Speaker 3: He doesn't believe in narratives. You know, he'll shoot it down,
- 4:59Speaker 3: but he think something could happen. Yes, because look, Ringo
- 5:02Speaker 3: give you ideal size and it's not like Ringo's in
- 5:04Speaker 3: game snaps at times have been terrible. Yeah, as he
- 5:07Speaker 3: had some staff where he got beaten games before the
- 5:09Speaker 3: little he's played, Yes, there's something there with him, but
- 5:12Speaker 3: he's so limited in certain things. You're just like Sean Payton.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Remember Sean Payton went on when on the record with
- 5:19Speaker 3: Peter King many years ago and he admitted that they
- 5:21Speaker 3: were going after Cidney Brown. Well, if Ringo plays because
- 5:25Speaker 3: of his issues, it's they're pro people who they provide
- 5:29Speaker 3: advanced work. They will let they will let Sean Payton o. Okay,
- 5:33Speaker 3: here's the issues with Ringo. So that's just the way
- 5:35Speaker 3: it is.
- 5:35Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:36Speaker 1: You mentioned you don't lose your job due to injury,
- 5:39Speaker 1: or it used to be that way.
- 5:40Speaker 3: It looks like.
- 5:41Speaker 2: This might be the case.
- 5:43Speaker 1: What happens at linebacker with Dean who has been rolled out,
- 5:45Speaker 1: but he is back on the field in a limited fashion.
- 5:49Speaker 1: This one seems like it's going to be the next
- 5:51Speaker 1: big decision this coaching staff is going to have to make.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Well, it's really not a decision. So let me just
- 5:55Speaker 3: explain what I told you before the student start. I said, Mike,
- 5:57Speaker 3: there was zero chance if Cambell plays well, was the
- 6:00Speaker 3: job none because he's a first round pick. Now, I'll
- 6:04Speaker 3: tell you, I am a little surprised, Mike what he's
- 6:06Speaker 3: done so far. John Campbell is what we expected to
- 6:10Speaker 3: see in year two. It's just the knock on Campbell
- 6:13Speaker 3: because he was relatively new to the inside backer position,
- 6:17Speaker 3: linebacker overall, because remember he went to Alabama's pass rusher
- 6:20Speaker 3: and he got moved by the necessity he had played
- 6:24Speaker 3: linebacker for roughly off and on three seasons. That's all
- 6:28Speaker 3: was that he would be behind mentally, Remember Mike, he
- 6:30Speaker 3: was he had he had shoulder surgery in the off season. Well,
- 6:34Speaker 3: he is so far advanced, like this is this is
- 6:37Speaker 3: you know, Mike, we don't talk about this enough with you.
- 6:39Speaker 3: And also on inside the Birds, this coaching staff is
- 6:42Speaker 3: so damn good. This Bobby King who came over from
- 6:45Speaker 3: the Titans. And how about you know, how about Nick
- 6:48Speaker 3: admitting it was Howie Roseman who hired him. Now, I
- 6:51Speaker 3: don't know what that did he suggest him because Nick
- 6:53Speaker 3: has final saying in his coaching staff. I don't know
- 6:56Speaker 3: how that happened. I don't know how he knew about him.
- 6:58Speaker 3: But this secret sauce so this the why. Obviously it's
- 7:01Speaker 3: player first, but it's coaches one, as it never changes.
- 7:05Speaker 3: You can't win without good coaching, and you can't win
- 7:08Speaker 3: without good players. I mean, johat Cam is so good
- 7:12Speaker 3: right now, and just think about it. There's still a
- 7:14Speaker 3: lot he needs to learn, but he's being coached so well,
- 7:16Speaker 3: and he's eager, and he works hard and he cares.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Dean was a great player last season. I'm
- 7:22Speaker 3: with everybody. It's a shame that he got hurt. He
- 7:24Speaker 3: suffered a devastat knee injury. Even if he looks good,
- 7:27Speaker 3: what will happen is you're talking special teams. He could
- 7:30Speaker 3: help a little bit in the base defense where Jihad
- 7:33Speaker 3: sometimes may overrun or it maybe hit the wrong gap,
- 7:37Speaker 3: but that's a minor role. And also listen, this is
- 7:39Speaker 3: the most of Kim's going to play in his life
- 7:41Speaker 3: because of the NFL season. So yeah, you could find
- 7:43Speaker 3: him to back them up, but Joha Kam's the starter.
- 7:46Speaker 3: They're not discussing that. Oh yeah, let's see who were
- 7:49Speaker 3: going to play Dean over Campbell Dowell. They're not discussing that.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Kim's the starter period.
- 7:53Speaker 1: All right, I'm cavin football for Yeah, And we were
- 7:55Speaker 1: talking about this, you know preseason, is what if this
- 7:57Speaker 1: kid plays so well that you just can't get him
- 7:59Speaker 1: off the field.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I believe it. That's it, Mike. I'm we'll talk more
- 8:03Speaker 3: to Greg co sell about this on the pregame show
- 8:06Speaker 3: because Denver by the way they could run the football
- 8:09Speaker 3: and the Eagles are getting hit hard a misdirection. So
- 8:11Speaker 3: we're going to talk about that when we tape it today,
- 8:13Speaker 3: all right.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And the other thing was that Fangio did kind of
- 8:16Speaker 1: acknowledge that Campbell's not ready, really ready to be a
- 8:20Speaker 1: pass rushing edge rusher or whatever you want to So
- 8:23Speaker 1: he doesn't sound like they're ready to move him out
- 8:24Speaker 1: of the role that he's currently in either. So I
- 8:27Speaker 1: don't know what that does for Dean. It sounds like
- 8:28Speaker 1: it keeps Dean on the sideline.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Well. Number one thing is Mike he actually now it's
- 8:32Speaker 3: not really as an intrusterer. He's more ad ind defender
- 8:35Speaker 3: against the run. He actually Weeks just lined up on
- 8:38Speaker 3: the ball more instead of an inside backer. Greg co
- 8:42Speaker 3: celt his guys in the NFFLMS charted eighteen to nineteen
- 8:47Speaker 3: snaps game over the last two where he's on the
- 8:50Speaker 3: ball more. But he's really it's more as a fifth
- 8:53Speaker 3: defender on their line. It's not so much it's not
- 8:56Speaker 3: so much as it's really not as an intrusser. Anyway,
- 8:58Speaker 3: he's playing more on the ball something than we expected,
- 9:01Speaker 3: but it's not as an asserts more to help the
- 9:03Speaker 3: run defense. But now there's no question in my mind,
- 9:07Speaker 3: at some point late later in the season, he's going
- 9:10Speaker 3: to get true edge rush snaps. That's going to happen.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Okay, but understand so looking forward to that.
- 9:16Speaker 3: But here's the thing, Mike, this is what fans don't
- 9:19Speaker 3: seem to unsay, Oh well, he'll just dem will take
- 9:20Speaker 3: Campbell's place. You don't. You can't play twelve players, You're
- 9:24Speaker 3: only allowed eleven. Who's coming off the field.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Well, exactly think about that.
- 9:27Speaker 1: That has been the big thing is, you know, how
- 9:29Speaker 1: do you kind of wedge him into the field here?
- 9:32Speaker 1: You can't, you know, keep both those guys on there.
- 9:35Speaker 1: And it seems that Campbell has really earned the spot.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I just had Nick Ferguson on former Broncos safety. Yeah, great,
- 9:41Speaker 1: great dude broke down and you know Nick played for
- 9:44Speaker 1: the Broncos, so we had him talking Broncos but he
- 9:46Speaker 1: also played a lot of special teams in his career
- 9:49Speaker 1: and the role of special teams in kick returns, punt returns,
- 9:52Speaker 1: field goals. The kicking game has changed some with Michael
- 9:55Speaker 1: Clay was the star of the Tuesday because Vic fanciers said,
- 10:00Speaker 1: just came about these kicking balls.
- 10:01Speaker 2: But the Eagles the return game, all.
- 10:04Speaker 1: That stuff, the kick return, punt return rolls, and how
- 10:07Speaker 1: the special teams has affected this season.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Look, their pun kickers are phenomenal. I mean, braid Man,
- 10:13Speaker 3: what a waiver claim he was for the Eagles from
- 10:17Speaker 3: the Steelers. And and Jkli tell the way back Physically,
- 10:21Speaker 3: there's no question he's been phenomenal. Now they have a
- 10:24Speaker 3: new long snapper at least temporarily and cal Adamitis. But
- 10:29Speaker 3: the only part of special teams that's not been special
- 10:31Speaker 3: this is the return game. It's been very disappointing. Now
- 10:33Speaker 3: They've got a lot of guys to do it. Shipley's
- 10:36Speaker 3: over his injury, AJ Dillon, John Metchi, Kyk Bixby and
- 10:39Speaker 3: Xavier Gibson former Jet they're all vying for it. In practice,
- 10:44Speaker 3: you know, to be the kickoff returners, you need to
- 10:45Speaker 3: have two. By the way, one thing I was told though,
- 10:49Speaker 3: by a special teams coach on my training campter effect
- 10:51Speaker 3: to mention this, because of the rules, you really would
- 10:54Speaker 3: like to have a guy with size, because it's almost
- 10:56Speaker 3: the way the returns are now, because it's different than
- 10:58Speaker 3: it used to be, the contacts different. It's it's kind
- 11:01Speaker 3: of like you'd like a power guy to return it.
- 11:03Speaker 3: That would explain them why Bigsby and Dylan are back there.
- 11:07Speaker 3: So just keep that mind up. Power turns really don't
- 11:10Speaker 3: look great. I don't understand, Mike, why they're not giving
- 11:13Speaker 3: Britain Covey a chance.
- 11:14Speaker 1: To be honest with you, Yeah, we'll see if Covey
- 11:17Speaker 1: gets in there at some point. Xavier Gibson's another guy
- 11:20Speaker 1: they signed. We haven't seen him yet. We've seen a
- 11:22Speaker 1: little bit of Mechi's been the other guy back there.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Dotson has been doing the punt returning for the Eagles.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Give us some quick thoughts at him. You know, you
- 11:31Speaker 1: talk to people all over the league. You guys obviously
- 11:34Speaker 1: studied for this game. Some thoughts on this Broncos team
- 11:36Speaker 1: because they are kind of, you know, under the radar
- 11:38Speaker 1: a little bit. You know, they did make the playoffs
- 11:40Speaker 1: last year ten and seven. They got off to a
- 11:42Speaker 1: weird start this year, and then if you watched Monday
- 11:45Speaker 1: Night Football, they blew the doors off Cincinnati, so you
- 11:48Speaker 1: might be saying if that was the only time you
- 11:50Speaker 1: saw them, you said, man.
- 11:51Speaker 2: This team's really good. But they've had kind of an
- 11:53Speaker 2: up and down start.
- 11:55Speaker 3: They have Bonuts has been up and down. But you
- 11:56Speaker 3: see the chalent look. They beat too bad teams. He
- 12:00Speaker 3: mentioned the Bengals without Joe Burrow and the Titans a
- 12:02Speaker 3: week one game one at Indy and then the guy
- 12:06Speaker 3: had on special teams on last field goal to win
- 12:08Speaker 3: the game for the Colts and the guy misses it,
- 12:11Speaker 3: but the Broncos had a leverage play and then they
- 12:13Speaker 3: got to kick again they won it. And then they
- 12:15Speaker 3: had to lead in the fourth quarter against the Chargers.
- 12:17Speaker 3: But Justin Herbert brought them back in Week three. So yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 3: they could easily have been four and ol Mike, I mean,
- 12:22Speaker 3: that's it. They have a good defense on advanced Joseph
- 12:27Speaker 3: the super deep receiver. Obviously, they have Pat certain Riley Moss,
- 12:32Speaker 3: who's the other corner who some team sought would be
- 12:34Speaker 3: a safety. He's a corner. The good line. But Alex Singleton,
- 12:37Speaker 3: by the way got that big contract and he's been
- 12:39Speaker 3: a good player. It's by coming off the ACL injury,
- 12:42Speaker 3: really good front, good Edgreshers. It's a good football team.
- 12:45Speaker 3: They played close games usually. I know the last week's
- 12:48Speaker 3: game was not close, but the Bengals game moved the
- 12:49Speaker 3: football and they shocked me last year and I've seen
- 12:52Speaker 3: as a playoff team bow Knicks, Mike. I'll leave you
- 12:54Speaker 3: with this is way better. Hired friends who were in scouting.
- 12:58Speaker 3: They gave him a third round grade. They saw him
- 13:00Speaker 3: low end starter. It's been better than people thought he
- 13:02Speaker 3: would be. That he was bad at Auburn, then he
- 13:04Speaker 3: transferred to Argon and he's been a pretty good football player,
- 13:07Speaker 3: and it's really amazing. He gets to play with Troy Franklin,
- 13:09Speaker 3: his college teammate, who was a receiver and a draft pick.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Last year.
- 13:13Speaker 1: They played man defense more than any other team in football.
- 13:16Speaker 2: The Eagles see a lot of zone. We'll see if
- 13:19Speaker 2: a J.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Brown with man coverage, although the man coverage is Patrick
- 13:22Speaker 1: Sir Dan the rainy defensive player.
- 13:24Speaker 2: This is going to be a fun one.
- 13:26Speaker 3: By the way, Jason lavontal Man, I remember asking him
- 13:29Speaker 3: over the years with us. He loved man coverage. Man
- 13:32Speaker 3: receivers generally do because you can't zone him off. You
- 13:37Speaker 3: like just beating your man. So yeah, it'll be a
- 13:40Speaker 3: good matchup, Mike, it really will be. It should be.
- 13:43Speaker 3: It should be ty. What's the spread on this game?
- 13:44Speaker 2: Five and a half Philadelphia?
- 13:46Speaker 3: Ooh, that's a tough one, man. I would not touch
- 13:48Speaker 3: that one. I would and I clean up tennant. I
- 13:51Speaker 3: don't bet but ten and three. Last week, I just
- 13:54Speaker 3: for a sports grid. I usually picked four or five games.
- 13:56Speaker 3: It was like so many games, but I'm only one man.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I liked. I liked the Rams last night. What the heck?
- 14:02Speaker 3: What what is wrong with them?
- 14:04Speaker 2: Geez managed very poorly down the stretch. Let's see.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I'm so mad. I'm Sean mcvay's good coach. Man. That's
- 14:11Speaker 3: that's embarrassing.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Yes, it was the way that they managed the end
- 14:15Speaker 1: of that game. By the way, it's four and a
- 14:17Speaker 1: half at another sports book. So if you find shop
- 14:19Speaker 1: around everybody and find your pick. He's Adam Kaplan from
- 14:22Speaker 1: the Inside of the Birds podcast. That was Football at four.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Thanks man, Thank you.
