- 1:17Welcome back. We are hot takes with the Murph
- 1:21man. How's everyone doing this
- 1:22morning? Connor, how you been?
- 1:24Doing good this fine morning. How you doing Murph man?
- 1:27This fine morning, huh? Well, so far so good.
- 1:31But just put it that way, right? So, yeah, I think it's going to
- 1:35be a really cool show today. We're going to be talking about
- 1:38business etiquette, and we're going to talk about what
- 1:42actually needs to be discussed because we don't talk about that
- 1:45enough, about what we need to be able to do at work.
- 1:50Right. And you told me, well, I don't
- 1:52know what to do at work. I've never worked.
- 1:53And I'm like, that's the whole point of this show because a lot
- 1:56of people don't realize that this show is about helping young
- 2:00adults and college students become better adults.
- 2:05And this is brilliant when you get a job, right.
- 2:07Yeah. So I think with that being said,
- 2:09do you have any, anything you want to mention about what's
- 2:12going on in the world right now or, or anything like that?
- 2:14Nope, can't think of anything. You can't think of anything
- 2:16right now. No.
- 2:18All right, so I'll tell you what, let's go ahead and I'll
- 2:23ignite that fuse and we'll get the show started.
- 2:26It's not working for me. Your degree in skills get you
- 2:42the job, but understanding workplace etiquette helps you
- 2:45keep it and thrive We're talking about the fundamental, unwritten
- 2:50rules of office life that separate the professionals from
- 2:53the amateurs. Raises are earned, not handed
- 2:57out. Welcome to Hot takes.
- 3:00Today we are talking about a guide to business etiquette,
- 3:04Part 1 The unspoken rules of the office.
- 3:07Your degree and skills get you the job, but understanding
- 3:11workplace etiquette helps you keep it and thrive.
- 3:14This episode covers the fundamental unwritten rules of
- 3:18office life that separate the professionals from the amateurs.
- 3:25The rules that separate us from the professionals from the
- 3:29amateurs. Well, you know, I, I've talked
- 3:31about this. Even if you've been following
- 3:32the show for a while, you'll you'll know that I've talked
- 3:35about this before. The way we talk about at work is
- 3:39very different than what we expect people to do in our
- 3:42personal life right now. Got a little what we do it at
- 3:51work is very different than how we treat people personally, you
- 3:53know? And last weekend after our show,
- 3:56I went to a party and met some new people.
- 4:02And I was like, OK, are we going to be OK in this atmosphere?
- 4:08Because these are all like college professors at UTIP,
- 4:10right? And there's me.
- 4:13I also, I too, am a college professor, but I'm just a very
- 4:17different kind of person. Just that's just bottom line,
- 4:19right? And I was like, OK, how is this
- 4:26going to go? I had to be on my best behavior,
- 4:28right? And all of a sudden, one of the
- 4:32guys makes a joke, fairly inappropriate joke, in Spanish,
- 4:39mind you, in Spanish, in Spanish.
- 4:44And I laughed so hard. He looked at me like he got the
- 4:51joke because I was the only one that got the joke.
- 4:53So it was like instant friendship, so to speak, right?
- 4:59And as the night went on, I became friends with everybody to
- 5:04the point where at the end of the night, they're like, hey,
- 5:06you know, let's get together next week, or which was
- 5:09Wednesday, you know, let's get together Wednesday and let's
- 5:11talk. And I said, all right, let's do
- 5:15it. And we did, you know, So I made
- 5:18myself some new friends. Now, how does this have to do
- 5:20with business? Well, the reality is, how do you
- 5:26act at work? How do you talk at work?
- 5:28How do you treat people at work? Can you treat those people the
- 5:33same way you would have them treated here at in your own life
- 5:39personally? Or do you have to treat them a
- 5:40little differently than you would your friends?
- 5:43Treat them a little differently than Friends A.
- 5:45Lot differently than friends most of the time, right?
- 5:49Because it's one of those things where you ask yourself, I, I
- 5:53can't do, I can't be myself a lot of times because I'm afraid
- 5:59of offending somebody because that doesn't it.
- 6:02Yeah, a lot. I wouldn't.
- 6:06I would hope it wouldn't be a lot.
- 6:09People getting offended, yeah. Well, if you're offending
- 6:13people, something's wrong with you.
- 6:14But. Not on purpose, they just take
- 6:16it to heart. Even even then, even then if if
- 6:20if OK, my friend has a way of explaining this that made me
- 6:24laugh. OK, when he talks about his
- 6:25marriage, he goes I was married to my first wife, got divorced.
- 6:28It was all her fault, right? I was American.
- 6:31My second wife got divorced. Maybe some of the reasons were
- 6:36my fault. My third divorce, he says.
- 6:40Yeah, it was mostly my fault. The thing is, if it's you're the
- 6:47common denominator in every problem because you have
- 6:50different friends who are getting offended, you're the
- 6:53problem. If you get offended with one
- 6:56person or one person gets offended by you and no one else,
- 6:59that's probably that one person, right?
- 7:04Same thing at work. So it could be the one person,
- 7:06could be the whole group, could be you.
- 7:08So you really got to be aware of what you're saying and doing
- 7:12when you're in situations like that.
- 7:15OK. Does that make sense?
- 7:17Because it's, it's you're the common denominator and
- 7:19everything. Like I had a kid I was
- 7:23counselling and she was a really, really bad kid.
- 7:28She was having a lot of issues. And I walked in there into the
- 7:33counselling session and I said what happened?
- 7:37You know, like why are you so angry?
- 7:39And we're not supposed to ask why as counsellors but I always
- 7:42did because why is there's only two answers to why?
- 7:46Do you remember the 2 answers? Because and why not?
- 7:50Like, so I asked this kid, you know, what happened that started
- 7:55making me so angry? And she tells me that a couple
- 7:58weeks before her quince, her mom used all the money they had to
- 8:01pay off the dance hall to pay off the food, the DJ and all the
- 8:04last minute expenses to bail her uncle out of jail.
- 8:07And they cancelled her quince. Damn.
- 8:09Damn right. Yeah.
- 8:12You know, I try not to talk bad about parents, but I was like.
- 8:15Wow. Wow.
- 8:16Yeah. And once the kid realized, like
- 8:19why she was acting so angrily and everything, I said.
- 8:21I don't know what your uncle did.
- 8:23I don't know, like had he stayed in jail with they have lost the
- 8:26house, his family would be kicked out of the house moving
- 8:28into this, you know, maybe your mom, there was other reasons
- 8:31that your mom did that because she knew he needed the help or
- 8:35the family needed the help instead of him.
- 8:36You know what I mean? And the way I worded it, she's
- 8:38like, you know, maybe you're right.
- 8:39Let me go talk to my mom. She talked to her mom and they
- 8:41resolved things and she was pretty cool.
- 8:44Couple of months passing this case in trouble, cursing at a
- 8:46teacher. And it was so funny because I
- 8:50went into the principal's office and I'm sitting there talking to
- 8:53the principal and her and the principal says, you know, you
- 8:57cursed at a teacher. I'm going to have to push her
- 9:00into an alternative. And the kid said, well, he
- 9:04cursed at me first. And the principal says, what do
- 9:08you mean? And I, I told the girl, I said,
- 9:10tell him the truth. You know, she says, we always
- 9:14joke like that. What's up?
- 9:19Right. Only this time another teacher
- 9:23was present. And because of that, he had to
- 9:26say something. And I'm here now.
- 9:32And the principal looked at me. He goes, how am I supposed to
- 9:36handle this, this between you and your teacher, bro, right.
- 9:40But I, I, I turned to the kid. I said, that's why you don't act
- 9:44like that with certain people, because you never know who's
- 9:46around you. He may not be the one getting
- 9:48offended, but someone might hear you say something and that
- 9:54becomes a problem. OK, does.
- 10:02That make sense? Yeah, I can see that.
- 10:05So this kid, she really, she got great.
- 10:08She did great after I talked to her.
- 10:10I, I can say that was one of my successes, but I told the
- 10:15principal she was still wrong. And personally, the teacher and
- 10:17you cannot ignore this because the other teacher is going to be
- 10:19like, how come you didn't do anything to this student?
- 10:21So he gave her two days in school suspension.
- 10:23That was it. You know, Well, actually he gave
- 10:27her one day. And I said, if she was another
- 10:30student, how would you have treated this?
- 10:32Because I would have put her in for two days.
- 10:34I said then put her in for two days.
- 10:35So I don't want you to, I don't want you to get into trouble.
- 10:38Right. And the I thought you could just
- 10:39chill for two days. You're cool with that?
- 10:41She was yeah, I'm cool with that.
- 10:43But the principal went and talked to his teacher and he
- 10:48went up to the teacher and he tells them something to the
- 10:50effect of, hey, can I talk to you about ex student?
- 10:52Yeah. What's up?
- 10:54You know, you referred her because she cursed at you.
- 10:56Yeah. Was that the first time she ever
- 11:00cursed at you? He goes.
- 11:02Yeah. He goes, oh, so you've never
- 11:04cursed with her? And at that point, the teacher
- 11:07knew, like, oh, she know he knows, right.
- 11:11And the teacher says, no, I've never talked to her like that
- 11:15before. Straight up light.
- 11:16Damn. And the principal says, OK,
- 11:20we'll talk. We'll talk about this later.
- 11:23And then since I was always at the school, he pulled me up.
- 11:25He goes, hey, I talked to the teacher and he told me he never
- 11:28curses a student. And I looked at him and just
- 11:31like, well, what are you going to do?
- 11:32And he goes believe your student because the kid didn't try to
- 11:37get him in trouble. She just straight up said, like,
- 11:39I don't want to tell him, you know how I get along with this
- 11:41teacher because I'm going to get in more trouble.
- 11:43And I was like, you're not the one in trouble.
- 11:44He is right. And yeah, so the teacher
- 11:49actually, you got rid enough for that.
- 11:53Oh wow. And I don't know if he's still
- 11:56teaching or not, but it it wasn't that big of a deal in my
- 11:59opinion. Just teachers be cursing with
- 12:01students. No, but if no one else is
- 12:04around, is it OK? And that that's where that
- 12:10personal relationship gets you into trouble professionally.
- 12:13When you say something around you, treat that person like you
- 12:17always have, but someone else sees it, you know?
- 12:22And the best example I can give you in my own personal life was
- 12:27I had a job one time and one of my Co workers was a lesbian.
- 12:33So. And I've known her for years.
- 12:36And I don't know, I knew her before she actually started
- 12:38working where I worked. And one day, I don't know why,
- 12:44but she says, can I pinch your butt?
- 12:46And I said, oh, OK, yeah, I don't care, right?
- 12:50So she was squeezing my butt. At that moment.
- 12:53My boss walked in, right? And my boss just looked at me.
- 12:58And she says, you guys got to be careful who's around.
- 13:03My boss was realistic. And I have to know, OK, these
- 13:05two have known each other for years.
- 13:06This is how they get along. Don't do this at work.
- 13:09Whatever, whatever. You know, she was just being
- 13:11funny. And actually what she was doing,
- 13:13it turns out I had gum on my butt and she was taking it off.
- 13:15She just didn't want to tell me. She was just trying to be funny.
- 13:19And after she pulled the gum off, she's like, he had some gum
- 13:21on your butt. I'm like, oh, thank you.
- 13:24But my it looked like she was grabbing my butt.
- 13:26So my boss was like, just don't do that at work, you know?
- 13:28OK. Yeah, that.
- 13:29That's cool, you know, and that brings up another thing about,
- 13:34and we'll talk about this later is relationships at work, like
- 13:37dating relationships. Just before we get started, what
- 13:41do you think? Should we?
- 13:42Shouldn't we date people? I mean, it's a, it's a human
- 13:46thing. It's going to happen.
- 13:48That's not what I ask is should it happen?
- 13:52I don't know. I don't think it should
- 13:54personally. You never date someone where you
- 13:57work at. I mean it never works then it
- 14:01works. But when it doesn't, that's the
- 14:04problem. I'll give you a perfect, perfect
- 14:06example. The club that I met your mom at,
- 14:10that's that's where she would go every week, right to that club,
- 14:13right. I, I started going to the club,
- 14:17met her, ended up married and you know, sorry, we got serious,
- 14:23right? Bless you.
- 14:27Thank. You.
- 14:29And she says, what happens if we break up?
- 14:37This is when we're dating. And I said it's very simple.
- 14:42You were here before me. As much as I'd love this club,
- 14:46it's your club. I won't come back here now.
- 14:51That's just a real relationship, right?
- 14:55But when you're both involved in something that affects the club,
- 15:02and it really shouldn't, but it does.
- 15:04Have you ever seen anything like that where your friends go to
- 15:07the club and they're just being stupid because someone else they
- 15:09dated was there was someone else or something or anywhere?
- 15:13I mean, school, whatever. No, no.
- 15:15OK. Well, you'll eventually see
- 15:17that, you know, you're young, but it's one of those things
- 15:21that you just. You just never know.
- 15:24Yeah. But I don't recommend dating
- 15:26anybody at work. But I do want to say this before
- 15:29we get on with the show, I do want to mention the fact that
- 15:32this is our podcast. I am the Murph man.
- 15:35This is my close Connor. We are not professionals.
- 15:38We just play one on this podcast.
- 15:40We do not hold back on our thoughts.
- 15:45We say whatever comes to our mind.
- 15:47And if you don't like it, I'm sorry.
- 15:50But most of the time we we were appropriate and you know,
- 15:54sometimes we're not and a little bit of the language or topics
- 15:58might slip up and come out. So just giving you a heads up on
- 16:02that. It's not like we're always doing
- 16:04it, but something might just slip and we might miss it during
- 16:06editing or obviously on the live show we can't.
- 16:09Can't. Really.
- 16:09I can't. I can't fly around the room 7
- 16:11times to go backwards and. Yeah.
- 16:14Right. But it's one of those things
- 16:19that we're just going to speak our mind.
- 16:22That's the way it is, right? Yeah.
- 16:25So I'll tell you what I want to get to the burning question
- 16:28today. So let's talk about that in our
- 16:32segment called the Burning Question.
- 16:48Today's burning question is what is a workplace norm?
- 16:54A. A company's official rules and
- 16:56policies. B The unwritten accepted
- 16:59standards of behavior. C The mission and values of a
- 17:03company. D The way a company hires new
- 17:06employees. The options are sizzling.
- 17:10Murph Man, what is the real story?
- 17:15All right, so a company's official rules and policies, I
- 17:18should say, what's the workplace norm, quote UN quote?
- 17:20No, it says in quotes. Why is it in?
- 17:26Well. What is 1 quote normal?
- 17:30Normal. Well out of all the answers I
- 17:39would have. To hold on, No, no, no.
- 17:40I'm talking about when it says workplace norm and that's in
- 17:42quotations. What is normal?
- 17:46And what I mean by that is based on where you work, the norm is
- 17:51very different. How?
- 17:56If I worked in a company that was very professional and
- 18:01business oriented, I would have to be very careful how I speak,
- 18:06how I dress, how I talk, right? Yeah.
- 18:09If I'm working in the strip club, would that would it be a
- 18:14different workplace norm? I mean, yeah.
- 18:17Right. But every business has their own
- 18:20like norm, so, but you can't really be like, what's the
- 18:25workplace norm if every place has it differently?
- 18:28That's my point. That's why it's in the
- 18:29quotations, because the normal is different for everybody.
- 18:31And what I, one of my favorite phrases is when I would talk to
- 18:34somebody as a counselor and they would ask me, is this normal?
- 18:38I'm like, I don't know, is it normal for you?
- 18:42And I'll give you an example of that.
- 18:44I had a kid who was 15 years old and she was assaulted, very
- 18:49unfortunate situation. And she was a big drug addict
- 18:54and alcoholic. So someone took advantage of
- 18:56her. OK, I'm doing counseling with
- 18:59this 15 year old kid and you know, you come up with goals.
- 19:04What are some goals for this kid?
- 19:06Get back to normal right after something like that happens.
- 19:10After a trauma, it's very hard to find your normal again.
- 19:14So in my first session, I said, so the goal is to try to get
- 19:18back to your normal. I said, like, for example,
- 19:22become sexually active again because that's, that was her
- 19:26norm, right? And the mom's like, whoa, whoa,
- 19:30whoa. You're saying it's OK to have
- 19:31sex? And I said, I didn't say that.
- 19:35I told the kid your normal was you used to have sex before this
- 19:39and you haven't been able to do it since.
- 19:40So that's one thing we need to change to get back to normal.
- 19:45And then I was like, this is weird.
- 19:47And I just told her mom. I said, think about that.
- 19:49I said, let's talk about if it happened to you, what would the
- 19:52goal be? And she said, well, I said.
- 19:57Exactly, Yeah. And I and of course I told the
- 20:01kid I said, does not mean I agree with your drug use, right?
- 20:05So then after I got the kid back to feeling semi normal, it's
- 20:10it's it's funny because I told her, I said do me a favor.
- 20:13Can you go out one night and not do drugs or get drunk just one
- 20:17night? That's all I'm asking.
- 20:18Can you do that for me? Yeah, I can do that.
- 20:21It's OK. The next session I said, so did
- 20:25were you able to do it? She was yeah.
- 20:26I went out with my friends and I didn't get drunk or anything.
- 20:29I said Anne and she says I cannot believe my friends are
- 20:34like that. Damn.
- 20:39She says I realized drunk and sober or clean and sober, that
- 20:46those weren't the kind of friends I want to have.
- 20:49And I said, OK, within a couple, we should stop using drugs,
- 20:56right? And I never told her you have to
- 20:59stop using drugs. I mean, I told her I didn't
- 21:01agree with you using drugs, but I also said, you know, that's
- 21:04who you are. I I get that I don't like it and
- 21:09it's causing a lot of problems but do me a favor one time and
- 21:13she did and she made the decision on her own to stop
- 21:16using SO. That's cool.
- 21:20When you're when you're asked what is normal, it's it's
- 21:27relevant to who you are and where you are.
- 21:29OK, Last night, yesterday, you asked me a quick what?
- 21:33I said OK, but you asked me what's the what's 1 story or
- 21:37memory you have here in El Paso? Yeah, I told you a really crazy
- 21:40story, right? That's not a normal experience
- 21:45for people. Obviously, right.
- 21:49Yeah. It's not too crazy for me.
- 21:56Because you know, there's stuff that are like.
- 21:59Oh yeah, there's stuff crazier than me.
- 22:01What I'm saying is telling me that story, you you did not say
- 22:05like, I don't believe you. You were like, oh, wow, OK.
- 22:09Yeah, I believe you. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.
- 22:12Right. Yeah.
- 22:13Now if, let's see, if your mom had told you the same story
- 22:19because she was there, would you have believed her?
- 22:22No. Because she was not the kind of
- 22:24person. Right.
- 22:26So Norm is relative to where you are and who you're with.
- 22:29OK. And when I told you the secret
- 22:30yesterday, you were just like, yeah, I believe it.
- 22:34Yeah. Let's get back to our question,
- 22:36the burning question. All right.
- 22:37So what is the workplace norm? Is it a company's official rules
- 22:40and policies or the unwritten accepted standards of behavior,
- 22:45the mission and values of a company or the way a company
- 22:48hires new employees? What do you think that would be,
- 22:50Connor? I would think it would have to
- 22:52be excuse me, I I think it has to be B the I forgot the hard
- 23:01worded but it's the unwritten rules.
- 23:03The unwritten rules. Yeah, workplace, right.
- 23:06That's why the workplace moment, right?
- 23:07Everyone's different. All right.
- 23:11Well, I think it's so funny as you think you're off camera and
- 23:13you're still trying to do that. Throwing that out there.
- 23:19Yeah, pretty much, anyway. Anyway.
- 23:26So yeah, the unwritten rules and I, I've talked about this before
- 23:29and I'll say it again. When you get to work in the new
- 23:32place, you have to be your best behavior, best person, best
- 23:35everything. And someone's going to test you.
- 23:38They're going to say something inappropriate, they're going to
- 23:40do something inappropriate to see how you respond, to see if
- 23:45you're cool. And one of the things I'll tell
- 23:50you, as a counselor, I was there for 16 years.
- 23:53My boss only put me with one or two people as a as a model.
- 23:59Not that I'm a bad counselor, I'm an amazing counselor, but my
- 24:03style is very different than other people.
- 24:05And it's maybe not the best example for new employees,
- 24:08right? But there's people who had a lot
- 24:12of experience that or like I ever did this before and then go
- 24:17work with Sean, see what he does.
- 24:20And even one time I presented at the conference, the STARS
- 24:24conference in El Paso, and people were like, you know,
- 24:28you're not stress management. How many of us have no stress
- 24:34management, right? They were like, why would we
- 24:38come and, and see your show, right?
- 24:40You're, you're a seminar. This is like I said, out of all
- 24:45the other classes that were available at that moment, that
- 24:48was the best choice for me. I had either done the other ones
- 24:51or wasn't interested in them. He says, I came in here and you
- 24:55presented stress management in a very different way than I've
- 25:02ever heard mentioned. And she says, I want you to know
- 25:07I think that was pretty cool because you have a different
- 25:12outlook on life. And she says, I can see you
- 25:17doing this in real life. It's not.
- 25:22You weren't giving like meditate and journalize and breathe and
- 25:27meditate. You know, you're like, what
- 25:30makes you relax? You play heavy metal music, play
- 25:33heavy metal music. You know what works for you.
- 25:37How do you what do you find that gets your brain distracted?
- 25:41OK, then play. So, you know, have a very
- 25:45different outlook on how we do things.
- 25:47And that that difference is what makes me who I am.
- 25:53I just see things very differently.
- 25:56Even my comedy, like very inappropriate comedy.
- 26:01And when people see me, they're just like, hey, what is it that
- 26:13that you talk about? And I said, well, very
- 26:15inappropriate stuff. So I don't curse, but I'm very
- 26:19inappropriate. Afterwards, the comedian that
- 26:25was on stage with me, I, you know, I actually, I got to know
- 26:28him one day and I'll give him a ride home.
- 26:29And he says, you know, what's so funny is you don't curse and you
- 26:35don't see anything racial. And I said I, I but I do say
- 26:41racial stuff. He goes, no, you just say the
- 26:45way it is. And I'm like, but it's racial.
- 26:49He goes, yeah, but and that is because the way I look, if
- 26:53you're like, he's just an old man or he's he whatever, you
- 26:57know, he's not being offensive on purpose.
- 26:59He's, you know, he goes, no, you just the way you say things.
- 27:03Right. And a good example of that is
- 27:05the guy we're going to go see on Friday, Mark Britton.
- 27:08He's known as the Chinaman. That's how I said that.
- 27:11The Chinaman. Oh, because that's his name.
- 27:16Right. But is that appropriate to, say,
- 27:18call someone a Chinaman? That's his name, so yes.
- 27:22Well, see that that's the thing in today's culture.
- 27:24He hasn't done comedy in several years and it's just come back.
- 27:28His first show. Actually, I talked to him at
- 27:29Comic Con and we were talking about this and goes, a lot of
- 27:32people go, hey, China man, like they can't say Chinaman because
- 27:37it's offensive. And he goes, you're the first
- 27:41person that said that to me in a very long time.
- 27:44And I'm like, because that's who you are, right?
- 27:48He goes, yeah, but other people don't see it that way.
- 27:53And cancel, cancel cultural hold on.
- 27:58My lips are dry. Mine too bro, mine too.
- 28:02Cancer Cultural. Cancer.
- 28:10I heard it. I was like cancel all right.
- 28:14Is this something I want to say from my friend from the
- 28:18Dominican Republic with a very, very, very thick Hispanic mixed
- 28:22Spanish accent? OK Connor, we got to fuck us.
- 28:27OK, Got to fuck us on the show. OK, Cancel culture is real.
- 28:34And he says I I have to be very careful what I say or do.
- 28:40And I I think it's bull crap. Sometimes council culture is
- 28:45doing too much. OK, but like for I've shown you
- 28:49some movies, very inappropriate movies that could not be made
- 28:53today. And they're hilarious.
- 28:55They are, but they could not be made today.
- 28:56Too bad. OK, what's a movie that you can
- 29:00think of? Mine is Waiting with Ryan
- 29:04Reynolds. Yeah, I would say.
- 29:10That's very sexually inappropriate at work.
- 29:15Yeah. Blazing Saddles very racist.
- 29:22Very, Yeah. What's the one?
- 29:31God, I can't think of the name. I can't think of the name.
- 29:44I don't even know. OK, well one comedian that I
- 29:49don't think has been cancelled, correct me if I'm wrong, is Dave
- 29:52Chappelle. No, I don't know anything about
- 29:54Dave Chappelle. Know what I'm saying but you
- 29:56haven't heard of him? Cancel.
- 29:57Or anything. I don't know anything about him.
- 29:59He has a skit of a town that's very, very white, very, very
- 30:07country, very, very Hick, very, very racist.
- 30:12There's a guy who lives there who's black and he's blind.
- 30:17And he go, he's a racist black guy, but he thinks, you know,
- 30:21he's a black white supremacist. Oh, God.
- 30:25OK. And his friends are like, aren't
- 30:27you going to tell him that he's black?
- 30:30And the guy is like, no, because he's really, really racist.
- 30:35Like he's able to just kill himself because he's black.
- 30:38Oh God. No.
- 30:44I just told you this. I don't know how long ago that
- 30:46skit was, but could you do something like that today?
- 30:52No. No.
- 30:53No, no. OK, wow.
- 31:00OK. That's he's so racist he'd kill
- 31:04himself because he's so that's just like stupid but cancel
- 31:10cultural cancer. Cancel.
- 31:14Fuck us, cancel culture is real. OK?
- 31:21I haven't heard us repel being cancelled.
- 31:23I've heard him have other issues, but you can't talk about
- 31:29racism like that today. You can, or you'll be in
- 31:32trouble, right? Yeah, which sucks by me.
- 31:38Next week when we have our show, this is we're going to have a
- 31:41Part 2 to this. Yeah.
- 31:44We're going to talk about the show with Tinaman on Friday and
- 31:49I would love, I'm going to ask him if he'd come on our show.
- 31:54I would see, but he, I don't know if he'd get up that early,
- 31:56right? I don't think so, but what time
- 31:58is the show at? Is at 8. 8 till like midnight
- 32:0410. 10 But I, I mean like he might stay parting until 3/4 or
- 32:08five in the morning. I don't know his lifestyle.
- 32:12So maybe if we can get him to come on a show, that would be
- 32:15really cool. I, I would love, seriously, I
- 32:18would just love to have him on my show.
- 32:20That'd be so badass. Because one of the things that I
- 32:25talk about, right, is we're very real about what we talk about.
- 32:32We're not cursing up a storm or anything.
- 32:35But if that's the episode that I want to do next week, I'll start
- 32:38off with, hey, just letting you know, this show is going to be
- 32:40very inappropriate. Just straight up.
- 32:44And he can be himself. I can be myself and we don't
- 32:46have to worry about anything because I'm not going to be
- 32:50upset with what he says. True.
- 32:52And then my lifters don't like it tough.
- 32:55Well, I mean, I, I guess kind of, even though the whole show
- 32:59is about like it's supposed to be for students and adults.
- 33:05But we can also break away from our shovel program I.
- 33:09Mean, I guess, yeah, it's just going to be weird.
- 33:12It's like educational, educational, educational, China,
- 33:15man, educational. Just like the thumbnails will be
- 33:19so different. No, well, we'll still talk about
- 33:23that because he's not going to be on the show for now.
- 33:25It'd be awesome if he was on the show for two hours, right?
- 33:28But probably 1015 minutes, you know, so we can take a break and
- 33:31talk about like we do with Javi or or JJ, you know, all the
- 33:34other guys we've talked to, Jose Luis, you know we can have it or
- 33:38Trina, right? By the way, she's you don't
- 33:42follow her on Instagram, right? For those of you don't know, one
- 33:45of our very first shows, probably our third show.
- 33:50You don't think it was third? Like later on.
- 33:52No, I think it was pretty. Close.
- 33:54It had to be like 10. It was pretty close.
- 33:56It had to be double digits. You think double digits?
- 33:58Anyway, we had a listener from the Philippines start texting us
- 34:01and chatting with us, and eventually she came on the show
- 34:05and she's an amazing person that I've been following her.
- 34:08And like I told you, hey, Trina's going to come on the
- 34:11show. You're like, yeah, whatever.
- 34:12You didn't believe me? Yeah, kind of forgot who she
- 34:16was, OK. Yeah, you forgot who she was.
- 34:19Yeah. Yeah, but when I told you I've
- 34:21been talking to, you're like, no, you haven't.
- 34:23I'm like I have. Well, what about?
- 34:31It the point being is we, we veered away from our regular
- 34:33content for that. You know what I mean?
- 34:36We talk about earthquakes. It's in Philippines.
- 34:38So yeah, you know, we, we never know what we're going to talk
- 34:40about. So veering away and doing an
- 34:43interview with China man would be really cool.
- 34:46That that, that that would be my ultimate.
- 34:48Like amazing, amazing. Like seriously, I would.
- 34:52Like that for like to happen maybe?
- 34:54Right. Yeah, if I could, I really, I
- 34:58would do that and then I would send him the clip and be like,
- 35:02hey, are you OK with me publishing this, this, this, you
- 35:06know, and see what he says. So if I can do that'd be, that'd
- 35:09be really cool. I'll have my business cards by
- 35:11then. So yeah.
- 35:13That's true, yeah. So yeah, there's just there's a
- 35:16lot of things we can do. Anyway, I digress.
- 35:19I digress. Cancel culture, I thought I was
- 35:25going to get it that time. Cancel culture is real and the
- 35:30norm from 1520 years ago, 60 years ago, 100 years ago, 200
- 35:37years ago, very different than today, very different.
- 35:43OK. And it's the pendulum.
- 35:44It's swinging, goes from one side to the other and sometimes
- 35:49we're in the middle of the swing as we, you know, our
- 35:52generations, one generation goes one way, one generation is
- 35:55through the other way and goes really quickly.
- 35:57Other times it takes like several years for the pendulum
- 36:00swing aisles closed everything. The 80s you talk about the 80s
- 36:07and 90 kids, very different attitude than the kids of today.
- 36:12Yes, they talk about at 14 years old I was out there stealing
- 36:18cars and getting drunk and partying in Mexico.
- 36:22No, I didn't steal a car just once.
- 36:25So you did. I didn't steal it.
- 36:28I was they gave me a stolen car. I'll tell you a story, but you
- 36:40know, I reckon the 14 and I'm like, there's no way inhale this
- 36:43guy's like doing anything like this.
- 36:46Yeah, no, I was doing nothing straight out of COVID.
- 36:50You know, I was a little chubbiness from eating too much.
- 36:54I had no friends. What was I going to do?
- 36:56Party. Hell no.
- 36:57Well, OK, you had COVID, but I'm saying at 14 years old, your
- 37:01mentality, I was playing Fortnite.
- 37:03Yeah. What?
- 37:04I was playing Fortnite. Oh Fortnite 124, your mentality
- 37:09at 14 was very different than my mentality at 14.
- 37:12Well, yeah, because I wasn't exposed to it.
- 37:14Right. But it's also the time of, you
- 37:15know, the 80s and 90s were very different than today's kids.
- 37:19And we were also in a pandemic, so that some major like.
- 37:22Difference, yeah, but I don't think it the pandemic changes
- 37:25anything. I was in my house for two years
- 37:29making no friends. Right, but I didn't start
- 37:33getting that crazy at 14 is my point, you know?
- 37:36Mommy and. And the stolen car, just so you
- 37:38know, we met some girls, they gave us a ride and they drove
- 37:43the car home and they lived in a shelter for actually there are
- 37:47no shelter where I worked many, many years later.
- 37:51They dropped, they stopped there and like, OK, we're home.
- 37:53They were like, oh, how are we going to get home?
- 37:56They're like, just take the car. OK, well, do I get a number to?
- 38:02They're like, oh, it's not our car.
- 38:03We stole it from some guy and my friend are like, OK, we're out
- 38:06of here. We just left the car over there
- 38:07and we walked away. So I wonder if like, my prints
- 38:10are somewhere we're stolen cars. It I wasn't, I didn't know it
- 38:20was. Stolen police station right now
- 38:21and go ask. I didn't know it.
- 38:23I didn't know it was stolen, and as soon as I did, I left.
- 38:26They reported no, but I was also 14 and 15 years old.
- 38:30OK. Anyway, cancel cultural.
- 38:36Oh, man, I'm just going to stop saying that word.
- 38:38I'll tell you what, let's get to today's hot take before we go
- 38:41too much further and get off subject, OK?
- 38:43All right. Value is the only relevant
- 38:51metric. Today's hot take is this true.
- 38:54Workplace professionalism has nothing to do with dress codes
- 38:58or formal titles. It's about situational awareness
- 39:02and deep respect for others boundaries.
- 39:04The person who cleans up their communal microwave mess is
- 39:07showing more integrity than the one wearing a $5000 suit.
- 39:15Oh. Hold on, hold on.
- 39:20Yeah, I missed it. Oh, so we don't have the hot
- 39:29take? We do not have the hot take.
- 39:32Oh well. Day, I'm like, yeah, we don't
- 39:38have it. Wow.
- 39:40I could add it as we talk. Well, hold on, I'm not worried
- 39:50about it. All right?
- 39:54The person that claims with their microwave communal miss
- 39:57has more integrity than the person with the $5000 suit.
- 40:01What does that mean? I don't know.
- 40:06Have you ever cooked in the microwave?
- 40:08Yeah. OK.
- 40:09Have you ever cleaned it up when it's splatters?
- 40:12Yes. No, you haven't.
- 40:14I can. I can say you haven't.
- 40:15No, it depends if it's like what do you mean like splatters?
- 40:20Like if you have spaghetti you're cooking then and you
- 40:22don't cover it, it splatters all the spaghetti all over the the
- 40:24microwave. If it's like a good chunk and
- 40:29all that, that's my. Point.
- 40:30Any splatter should be cleaned up.
- 40:33Oh no OK, well you should use a lid.
- 40:35There's things you can do to avoid it, but you after you use
- 40:38the work microwave you should clean it up.
- 40:42OK, Character is what you do when no one is watching, right?
- 40:52Yeah. If I'm walking in the middle of
- 40:55the desert and I'm eating a lollipop, you can't just throw
- 40:58the rapper into the wind. Yeah, no one's going to know,
- 41:01right? But I know.
- 41:06OK, and you'll forget about it later on.
- 41:09The point being is I wouldn't do it.
- 41:12I would put it in my pocket because that's not who I am.
- 41:14I'm not a litterer. Yeah.
- 41:20OK, does it matter? I'm not going to litter.
- 41:23I'm not that kind of guy that throws trash on the floor.
- 41:26Well, I do hear I have a trash can over here, but, you know, I
- 41:30just throw it. Yeah, I don't live that.
- 41:37OK, if I'm walking down the street and I find $100 bill, do
- 41:42I try to ask who it belongs to? No, no, I'd be like, oh.
- 41:47I haunted. Take it you know.
- 41:49What you're supposed to do legally?
- 41:51Will I report it? Yeah.
- 41:52Oh well, to the Police Department and you say I found
- 41:55$100 bill. Should have not been there for
- 41:58all while they're leaving it. After, I don't know what the
- 42:02dates are, I think 30 or 90 days, you can go back to the
- 42:05Police Department. Did anyone claim the $100 bill?
- 42:07No, give it back to me now. It's legally yours because you
- 42:10did everything you could to return it to the owner.
- 42:19This happened in El Paso and I think it's happened twice.
- 42:28An armored truck is driving down the highway.
- 42:32OK. And the doors open up and money
- 42:34flies out the back. Hundreds of thousands of
- 42:38dollars. Or maybe just thousands of
- 42:40dollars. Dang.
- 42:43People stopped and picked the money and drove away.
- 42:48Yeah, it is. Arm, yeah.
- 42:52I wouldn't say armed, you know, just because you're picking up
- 42:55with your hands and making armed robbery.
- 42:56Well, I mean, the money's in. Arms.
- 42:59You get it. Anyways, anyways.
- 43:08The money is out on the floor, so you're picking it up.
- 43:10Yeah, but it came from an armored truck, so it's
- 43:13technically like you open the truck and took the money out.
- 43:16If, you know, if there's an armored truck pulled over and
- 43:18they're picking up money and you know the money belongs to them
- 43:21and you take it, that's theft. Yeah.
- 43:23OK, I'll tell you right now. That's happening in El Paso
- 43:28once, maybe twice. I know it's happened at least
- 43:31once, maybe more, but I know once for sure.
- 43:35OK, that's theft. OK, This reverse rose a little
- 43:44bit. A Bud Light tractor trailer is
- 43:46driving down the road. Falls, crashes and there's Bud
- 43:50Light all over the floor, all over the freeway.
- 43:52Can you go pick up those beers? Is then I cracked or dented?
- 43:56It's still theft. That's I mean, I would never
- 44:07but. But it's still theft if you know
- 44:10where it comes from. Obviously, if there's 2000 cans
- 44:14of beer on the freeway, you know, that's not an accident.
- 44:17You know something happened. Now what?
- 44:19Alcoholic did all this. Right.
- 44:22So yeah, you have all that kind of stuff to worry about, OK.
- 44:26And just because you, you do something because no one's going
- 44:32to see who it was, doesn't mean it makes it right.
- 44:36Now, am I going to sit there and pick up the money and then go
- 44:39hand it over to the guards? No.
- 44:43OK. I might not stop.
- 44:45I might just keep driving and be like, if someone else wants to
- 44:47steal it, it's on them. I'm not going to be part of it,
- 44:49you know? Yeah.
- 44:51Could I help them pick it up? Yeah.
- 44:53Have I taken money that I found on the floor and not turned it
- 44:56in? Yes.
- 44:57I'm not going to see her and say I never have.
- 44:59When I was a kid, I say a kid. I was 14 years old because I was
- 45:03working at the arcade. A kid in front of me dropped a
- 45:06bill. I don't know if it's a 1510.
- 45:09I don't know what the bill was, but I'm walking behind them.
- 45:12He dropped it. I picked it up.
- 45:13As I walked past him, he turned around to see where the money
- 45:15fell. There's no money, I took it.
- 45:23And your phrase at the start of the conversation was if you're
- 45:25stupid enough to lose the money. Yeah, I'm too bad.
- 45:29It is still theft, yes. Yeah, but that's only be get
- 45:33caught. So a character is what you do
- 45:37when no one is watching. I mean, yeah.
- 45:40OK, that's who you are at your core.
- 45:45If I did something that was horrible and I never felt guilty
- 45:52about it at my core, then that means I'm a horrible person.
- 45:56If you have no remorse, there's a problem there, OK?
- 46:01No matter how much justification you can give yourself for saying
- 46:03it, you still doesn't make it OK.
- 46:07And as we're doing this, OK, realize that your character is
- 46:16what you do because that's who you are.
- 46:21And whether you do it or not, it tells me who you are as a
- 46:24person. If I were to tell you, would you
- 46:32litter in the desert if nobody was watching?
- 46:35I mean no, because I mean I'm just used to like put it in my
- 46:37pocket, maybe like the stick, I guess that's it.
- 46:42But not, I don't know, not everything.
- 46:44I still wouldn't litter that's you don't see me throw yourself
- 46:47out the the the window, do you? Well, that's different because
- 46:51it's in the city, not in the middle of a desert.
- 46:54But. No one know going to know where
- 46:57it came from. OK, then no one's going to know.
- 47:01But someone could see you and you're like, is that why you
- 47:03would not do it? No, no, like, I don't know.
- 47:07I would do it. I'm like, I finish it.
- 47:12I throw it away. You would just throw it out the
- 47:15window? Yeah, You're a homo person,
- 47:19Connor. On that note, I think we need to
- 47:22take a break. We'll be right back after these
- 47:25messages. It's time for a break.
- 47:28Hot takes with the Murph man will return.
- 47:29After these messages. According to the V as Suicide

- 50:22The station where our veterans voices are heard.
- 50:25MBR talk. Hey, thanks for tuning in.
- 50:31Welcome back. Are those of the speakers and do
- 50:33not necessarily reflect the views or positions of any
- 50:37entities they represent. The web at MB radio dot.
- 50:52I was waiting on like. It's a long pause, I know.
- 50:54That's yeah. I was like, wait, I'm like, OK.
- 50:58Yeah, I got to edit then. I was like did freeze.
- 51:02I keep saying I'm going to edit and I don't, but hold on, let
- 51:05me. We all do.
- 51:07We all say we want to do something, but yeah, we don't.
- 51:10Yeah, I know. Let let me.
- 51:15I I have a a quick rant. I want to say here real quick.
- 51:19I had a package delivered. I paid extra for delivery on
- 51:21Friday by UPS. I'm going to call them out.
- 51:24OK. UPS has a thing where you can
- 51:27change delivery. For example, when I got my
- 51:30laptop that was $3000. I don't want that dropped off in
- 51:34my car report. Does that make sense?
- 51:36Yeah. All right.
- 51:38So I had it picked up an alternate application to CVS.
- 51:42So I guess dropped off at CVS. I pick it up, everyone's happy,
- 51:45right? Yeah.
- 51:46Apparently I clicked the button when I was registering that says
- 51:50have all packages go to CVS. All right now I've had
- 51:57medications delivered here. That's by CP, by UPS.
- 52:02Here, yeah, or it's CVS. No, it's UPS.
- 52:06You said from UPS. Yes, you said yes.
- 52:09I'm staying where though. Two CVS, 2 here, OK, 2 here.
- 52:13OK, OK. Where we are our studios at our
- 52:15home, we're not at CVS. You never said studio.
- 52:18I know, but we're, we're in our studio right now, which is here,
- 52:21which is our home right here. But we're talking about, OK,
- 52:22just continue. And those medications come from
- 52:25UPS to here. For some reason, this delivery
- 52:30that I made for yesterday got sent to CVS because all
- 52:34delivery, it wasn't all delivery.
- 52:35That's been my problem because I've had other stuff shipped by
- 52:38UPS. So it wasn't here yesterday and
- 52:44it was it was delayed. I said OK, well, I paid for next
- 52:47day air. Well, tomorrow when you get it,
- 52:49you can call us and you can complain and we'll refund that.
- 52:51We'll see what we can do, but we can't do anything until the
- 52:55package is delivered Fine. Later at night I got a message
- 53:00that said package has been delayed until tomorrow and I'm
- 53:03like I'm not getting it. Today I was pissed.
- 53:07As I went to the system, I changed the option of sending
- 53:11all packages to CVS. Boom, took it off right.
- 53:15It changed my package delivery for that one package.
- 53:19So now I got delayed to come back to the house.
- 53:22I didn't even change it, it's just the system that did.
- 53:24It well, you just said you cancelled it though I cancelled
- 53:27it so it's. Going to go here in my profile
- 53:30but I didn't affect that one tracking that's already been
- 53:34chosen to go to UPS. Well, I'm trying to press
- 53:37cancel. Isn't is going to get rid of the
- 53:40change? All right, here's an example.
- 53:44It's not examples what happened. We went to Walmart.
- 53:47I mean Walmart 'cause we get to McDonald's at Walmart.
- 53:50When we went to McDonald's the other day, you ordered right in
- 53:53the kiosk and it said this is a favorite order, right?
- 53:57Yeah. OK, you have a favorited order.
- 54:01Well, you can't 'cause I made it a favorite.
- 54:04If I put in the system, that's the only order to make every
- 54:07time, right? It's gonna make the order.
- 54:13But what if I have an order made and then I go and I change the
- 54:18option to take it off as a favorite?
- 54:19Should it change the order that I already made?
- 54:23Yes. Why?
- 54:24Because it's not a favor anymore, so it's not going to
- 54:26make the order for you. But I already ordered it.
- 54:29No, you didn't like it. It's already being made in the
- 54:32back. Why?
- 54:35Because I made the order. You just, no, you never said you
- 54:38ordered. You said if you get rid of it as
- 54:40a favorite. If I have it as a favorite and I
- 54:43order it then and then I go in there and change it as a
- 54:45favorite, should I change the order?
- 54:49Well, if it's a McDonald's, I mean, you haven't really made it
- 54:52since you haven't like selected it.
- 54:54Well, that's. OK, again, it's a favorite
- 54:57order. I make the order, meaning I've
- 54:59submitted the order, then I take it off as a favorite.
- 55:04Should it change the order I submitted?
- 55:06Oh no, that's. What happened with the UPSI took
- 55:11off a preference, not the actual order change.
- 55:13I don't. Know I get to see on the UPS to
- 55:18see like. Anyway I'm so pissed at the end
- 55:22of the I was yelling I was mad at this girl I'm trying to get
- 55:24online my Internet wasn't working and just Sir we have
- 55:26other customers in the queue. I said I don't care I am your
- 55:32customer right now and I'm going to get this fixed and she pissed
- 55:37me off. She just both UPS people I
- 55:41talked to yesterday pissed me off 1 couldn't get my name
- 55:43right. Anyway, UPS, if you're out there
- 55:48right, kiss my ass. Anyway, back to our show.
- 55:54Don't say that what UPS is going to be like, oh, OK, you want to
- 55:59add like that? OK, no packages whatsoever.
- 56:03That's fine. OK, like millions, dude, yeah.
- 56:11Everybody rose up against. No one's going to rise up
- 56:14against dude. Everybody needs the packages.
- 56:17It's it's just going to be you. Yeah, with no packages, right?
- 56:21Yeah. All right, I'll tell you what.
- 56:24Let's go back to the show. Let's talk about those
- 56:26definitions we're going to be talking about and laying down
- 56:28the coals. Define your value.
- 56:36Define the ask. Before we dig in, let's clarify
- 56:40some of the key terms we'll be using today while laying down
- 56:43the coals. Workplace norms, the accepted,
- 56:47unwritten standards of behavior and social expectations within a
- 56:51given company culture. Professionalism, Demonstrating
- 56:55competence. Situational awareness, respect,
- 56:58and integrity in your appearance, communication, and
- 57:02conduct. Shared space etiquette, the
- 57:05rules of courtesy, cleanliness, and boundaries for common areas
- 57:09like kitchens, hallways, and open plan offices.
- 57:13Situational mirroring. The practice of observing and
- 57:17adapting to the communication style, punctuality, and habits
- 57:20of top performing peers. Now that the coals are laid,
- 57:24Murph man, let's discuss the foundation.
- 57:29All right, workplace norms we've talked about already, right.
- 57:32The unwritten standards of behavior and social
- 57:34expectations, professionalism, demonstrating competence,
- 57:38situational awareness, respect and integrity in your
- 57:41appearance, communication and conduct.
- 57:46Would you say common sense there?
- 57:48Yeah, Yeah, right. You're a professional act,
- 57:51right? Talk, right.
- 57:52Dress right. Yeah.
- 57:54Now share space etiquette. This is where we talked about
- 57:57the microwave, right? The roles of courtesy,
- 58:01cleanliness and boundaries for common areas like the kitchen,
- 58:06hallways and open living offices.
- 58:10Now, where I used to work, my job was stuck at the front desk
- 58:16and people would be walking by me all the time, right?
- 58:21Could I leave anything personal on my desk?
- 58:23No. No, because it can get stolen,
- 58:26right? It's sad that you have to think
- 58:30like that. It'd be nice to be able to say,
- 58:32hey, I can leave something on my desk and I was going to touch
- 58:35it, right? But in today's society, I don't
- 58:39trust people. It is what it is, right?
- 58:43But the last one, Situational awareness, the practice of
- 58:46observing and adapting to 1's communication styles,
- 58:50professional punctuality. I can't.
- 58:55I can't. Try to say it again, all right?
- 58:58Cancel Culture. The practice cancel culture, the
- 59:04practice of observing and adapting to the communication
- 59:07style, punctuality and the habits of top performing peers.
- 59:11Now as it says top performing, why would it say top performing?
- 59:15Because of the ones that are at the top.
- 59:18Because that's the ones you want to copy.
- 59:19Yeah. You don't want to copy the
- 59:20losers, right? Yeah.
- 59:23OK, let's talk about that real quick.
- 59:26All right? Mirroring the behavior.
- 59:33You go around and you see people, how they act, how they
- 59:36talk, everything, and you take on those behaviors.
- 59:41Yeah. All right, not always be a.
- 59:45But you want to do that with the top people.
- 59:50OK there was a guy used to work with that.
- 59:55I knew he was lying on his numbers.
- 59:58I caught him red handed one time and my boss didn't fire him.
- 1:00:05And another time after that she says hey how come you can't do
- 1:00:09what X nut guy is doing? And I said, don't even.
- 1:00:15I know he's lying. I gave you proof he was lying.
- 1:00:18He told us not to do nothing about it.
- 1:00:19You can never use him as a reference to me.
- 1:00:23Is that fair? Yeah.
- 1:00:25Could have been that one mistake, one time.
- 1:00:27Doesn't matter. I believed he was doing all the
- 1:00:30time. Especially since I caught him.
- 1:00:32Caught. OK.
- 1:00:41You want to mirror those good employees now.
- 1:00:46At the same time, can you have a good employee that has habits
- 1:00:50you don't want to follow? Yeah.
- 1:00:54One thing I'm going to say about my old CEO, he always parked the
- 1:01:01furthest away in the parking lot.
- 1:01:10Because the parking was for the employees.
- 1:01:13He didn't do it for health reasons.
- 1:01:14He didn't do it for any other reason.
- 1:01:16Isn't he an employee though? Yeah, but that's my point.
- 1:01:19He did by example, and that's one thing I'm going to give him
- 1:01:25credit for was he would park something that's so minimal like
- 1:01:30that that the difference to anybody, but he would park
- 1:01:34furthest away so that people can have a closer parking spot.
- 1:01:40Wow, right. I.
- 1:01:41Mean, yeah. OK, again, we go back to
- 1:01:44character and who you are, right?
- 1:01:46That's something about him. But yeah, so the other thing is
- 1:01:54you, you haven't talked about TikTok in forever with you.
- 1:01:57OK, But there's a TikTok of this girl who says she got fired in
- 1:02:01the second day of work. Have you seen that video?
- 1:02:04What did she do? She was late to both days.
- 1:02:08The first day she was late for some reason and the second day
- 1:02:11she was late was because she was having period cramps but she
- 1:02:15couldn't get out of bed and they fired her.
- 1:02:22Yeah, why? I don't know. 2 days of work and
- 1:02:32you're not showing up, you're doing your part.
- 1:02:34Yeah, you've already shown you're not dedicated to this
- 1:02:37job, right? I've, I've said this before and
- 1:02:41I'll say it again. Get rid of the poison as fast as
- 1:02:43you can, right? Because when someone's not doing
- 1:02:48what you need them to do, you need to learn how to fire fast.
- 1:02:52You need to hire fast. Meaning you need to fire, you
- 1:02:57need to hire someone as soon as you can, but if they don't work,
- 1:03:00then you need to fire faster and get another person in there.
- 1:03:03Now here, here's a strange question for you.
- 1:03:05Connor and I, I I don't know the actual number.
- 1:03:07You can, we can look it up, but what is the number of employees
- 1:03:12you should interview before you find the best employee?
- 1:03:17There's a number. Before you find the best
- 1:03:20employee. Yeah, well, there's no best
- 1:03:21employee. Hold on.
- 1:03:22I mean. Look it up the number of
- 1:03:28interviews. I hate this computer or the
- 1:03:32keyboard. To find the best employee, a
- 1:03:38best candidate, I think it's 28. 4.
- 1:03:49Interview rounds. Oh, that's not, that's not what
- 1:04:00I was asking. What?
- 1:04:00What number does it save for you?
- 1:04:02This same thing. Let me see.
- 1:04:18That's not what I mean all. Right.
- 1:04:25Hold on. Most recruiters aim to interview
- 1:04:2746 candidates per open roll after a strong initial resume
- 1:04:33Screen for like the four rounds of interviews because it's 4
- 1:04:40rounds of screening which would be like just a little chat, like
- 1:04:44phone call or video call skills in depth which is just talking
- 1:04:49about past work, technical skills.
- 1:04:53Around 3 is how you work with your team and how professional
- 1:04:59you can get and then 4 is if you take leadership or not and it
- 1:05:04says every four to six for one. That's not the one I'm looking
- 1:05:09for anyway. The the number of candidates I
- 1:05:14think is 28. If you can't find the right
- 1:05:19employee within 28 candidates, you're something's wrong.
- 1:05:23You've already lost the the candidate.
- 1:05:25Oh, and 20, Why not like 10? Well, I'm just that's what I was
- 1:05:29hoping. 10's already a lot. That's how I.
- 1:05:31Was hoping to find the actual number and I couldn't.
- 1:05:33All right there. There's a mathematical equation
- 1:05:35that says based on so many interviews, you can interview
- 1:05:381000 people with the same job. You can run the exact 2 on it at
- 1:05:4320. 8. But up to 28. 6.
- 1:05:48No, it's that's not what I'm talking about.
- 1:05:50No, it's six. It's saying every role should be
- 1:05:56filled with the first six people you find.
- 1:05:58Within the first six people, OK, that's a low number to me.
- 1:06:02I've I've seen it over. Because I mean, you don't need
- 1:06:0420 people for one job. You can't find 20 people to do
- 1:06:10that one job. That's something.
- 1:06:11No, no, I, I, I. Agree.
- 1:06:12If you do 10 the. Number I had seen was higher,
- 1:06:14the number I had seen was higher.
- 1:06:15But if you say use 6 to 10, OK. It's 4:00 to 6:00.
- 1:06:18Based on your on the application.
- 1:06:19Be a handful. OK, that's it.
- 1:06:22If you can't find someone in the handful.
- 1:06:25OK, but if you get 1000 resumes, you have to read 1000 resumes.
- 1:06:31Yeah, I'm not doing that. You have to because you don't
- 1:06:34know if that Alan's resume is the best employee.
- 1:06:38Now, do you have to interview 1000?
- 1:06:40No, but you have to read 1000. Yes.
- 1:06:43OK. That's why you have these
- 1:06:44systems that read interview resumes.
- 1:06:48It avoids all that hassle, right?
- 1:06:52I've told you the job that I applied for, for Bliss, that the
- 1:06:56person says that my resume was very confusing, that's why I
- 1:06:58didn't get the interview. And I said, OK, if you could
- 1:07:01give me feedback, I would really appreciate it.
- 1:07:03And she says, yeah, like, for example, here it says you teach
- 1:07:05introduction to psychology. What does that mean?
- 1:07:09Like, what are you freaking stupid?
- 1:07:12I'm a college professor and teach the class introduction to
- 1:07:14psychology. She says, OK, I guess.
- 1:07:17And there's only here that says you're certified and
- 1:07:21preventative management and aggressive behavior.
- 1:07:24What is that? I said.
- 1:07:28I'm certified to prevent and manage aggressive behavior.
- 1:07:33Like, what the Hell's wrong with you?
- 1:07:36I told Rush. You know what?
- 1:07:37I am so glad I might get hired because if you're hiring people
- 1:07:41off the you're idiot ways of thinking, you get some really
- 1:07:45poor candidates, I said. And obviously I'm never going to
- 1:07:50apply for that job again. What job was even 4?
- 1:07:54I remember you told me the story, but I forgot.
- 1:07:56It was a social worker working with family advocacy on Fort
- 1:07:59Bliss with kids who've been abused.
- 1:08:03Wow, I. Would have been approved for the
- 1:08:05job. I'm going to apply for the
- 1:08:08director of Family Services. I mean of of family Protective
- 1:08:12Services in El Paso for adults and Child Protective Services.
- 1:08:16But for the director position, I was just trying to be a worker
- 1:08:19at Fort Bliss. Wow.
- 1:08:23And what happened with that? With what?
- 1:08:26Director. I wasn't qualified for it.
- 1:08:30I mean, I'm not going to lie, I don't know, I thought.
- 1:08:34You would get an interview. Or something.
- 1:08:35My my point being is I felt I could have taken that job
- 1:08:39because I knew the system enough.
- 1:08:41Yeah. You know, but yeah, there was a
- 1:08:45little people that actually had worked in their program, so they
- 1:08:47wouldn't hire those before me. And they made a great hire, I'm
- 1:08:53not going to lie. But the the point being is this
- 1:08:57person looked at my resume and was confused, which it wasn't
- 1:09:01me, trust me, I'm a college professor and I teach
- 1:09:04psychology. What I mean?
- 1:09:05Are you sure she wasn't like trying to test you to make sure?
- 1:09:08It's you. I didn't get a job interview.
- 1:09:11I never even got called for an interview.
- 1:09:13And she told me, oh, I remember your resume.
- 1:09:14It was very confusing. Oh, really?
- 1:09:18Can you tell me what was confusing about it?
- 1:09:19OK, and the fact that I'm a college professor teaching
- 1:09:22psychology was confusing to her. That's how the brain works.
- 1:09:29Or the fact that I don't know what this means.
- 1:09:31It's literally in the title. I prevent the manager aggressive
- 1:09:34behaviors. I don't know dude.
- 1:09:39Forget all my other experience as a counselor, as an advocate,
- 1:09:44as a day treatment program supervisor.
- 1:09:45None of that was an issue. It was these weird, confusing
- 1:09:48things. She thought I was in a good
- 1:09:50candidate for the job. Well, it was actually her brain
- 1:09:53that was just stupid. And I hope she's listening to
- 1:09:56this, because if she is, you're stupid, you know?
- 1:10:00And how long ago was? This oh, too long too long how
- 1:10:03long My first marriage long at least 25 years ago, I.
- 1:10:08Was going to say 25. Yeah.
- 1:10:11Yeesh. Early 2000s, new decade, am I
- 1:10:14right? God damn millennials.
- 1:10:20But anyway. So yeah, that that's one of
- 1:10:22those things. But I'll tell you what, that's
- 1:10:24my story. But let's hear the story from
- 1:10:26the fire about Ben. Ben, 10.
- 1:10:29Bend over. OK.
- 1:10:40Raises are recognition, not rewards.
- 1:10:43In today's story from the Fire, a new hire, Ben, frequently
- 1:10:48takes loud personal calls at his desk and microwaves fish in the
- 1:10:52communal kitchen. His colleagues are annoyed but
- 1:10:55say nothing, creating a tense environment.
- 1:10:58Ben remains oblivious until his manager has to have an awkward
- 1:11:02conversation with him about workplace awareness.
- 1:11:05He learned the hard way that professionalism is just respect
- 1:11:09in a work outfit. That was a story from the fire.
- 1:11:14Murph, man, are you feeling the heat?
- 1:11:17What, what, what? What do you say?
- 1:11:18What the hell? What are you referring to?
- 1:11:22I was reading it and just thinking about someone
- 1:11:26microwaving fish. I hate tuna.
- 1:11:30I hate fish I don't like. I'm not a seafood guy.
- 1:11:34If someone cooks something in the microwave that smells, I'm
- 1:11:38not getting in there for the whole shift.
- 1:11:40OK, I will sit somewhere else. Is it fair to say that I can't
- 1:11:45fit work? Yes, if it's interrupting
- 1:11:50everybody else, yes, it's a break room, not a kitchen where
- 1:11:55you cook whatever you want. Like, yes, I know it's food, but
- 1:11:58like you got to think about everybody else on how they feel,
- 1:12:02but they don't eat finish. When I found the story right and
- 1:12:06I'm like, I'm going to use it, I was like, so I can read shit
- 1:12:09work. Yeah.
- 1:12:14That's too funny. That's the reason I'm like
- 1:12:15working from home. I can eat whatever I want.
- 1:12:18Yeah, dude, especially if it's like you have to punch in a cup
- 1:12:22to get in the break room, so it's not like you could just
- 1:12:24open the door or whatever, you know?
- 1:12:26No. It's trapped in there.
- 1:12:32I had to spray the break room because of how bad it smelled
- 1:12:36from that microwave. We had to get a new microwave.
- 1:12:38Actually I forgot we got a brand new microwave because of like
- 1:12:44the smell. It was bad dude.
- 1:12:48It was really terrible. That's too funny.
- 1:12:50You had to get in the microwave. Because it's like that's all he
- 1:12:54ate and he made like mixtures. Oh my dude, come on.
- 1:13:01Yes, I know. But I don't know.
- 1:13:03There's just some stuff where it's like you need to know what
- 1:13:07to bring to work, like to eat and be considerate for all the
- 1:13:13other people that don't eat what you eat.
- 1:13:15Well, let let me tell you last night.
- 1:13:17That's why I get bagel bites. Out of all things to cook.
- 1:13:20Bagel Bites. No smell, no nothing.
- 1:13:23Oh, it's pizza. Yeah, Yum.
- 1:13:26Not tuna or fish. God I hate seafood with a
- 1:13:35passion. Last night I was, you know,
- 1:13:37folding my clothes and clothes up, hanging and after washing
- 1:13:40and whatnot, right? And I had tuna and I had a new
- 1:13:43tuna that I bought. It's not the best, but I mean,
- 1:13:45I, I it's like already pre flavored, pre mixed.
- 1:13:49And I was eating it. And then after I was eating it,
- 1:13:52a little while later, I said, you know, I want to get some
- 1:13:54celery and peanut butter, right? So I took it and I was waiting
- 1:13:58for you to come in and go, I smell of tuna and I smell peanut
- 1:14:01butter. I was like, Oh yeah, dude,
- 1:14:03they're really good together to see your reaction.
- 1:14:06But you didn't. You didn't smell it.
- 1:14:07Thank God. Thank God, right?
- 1:14:10Thank God, Oh my God. But I saw you brought it home.
- 1:14:15I was like, oh hell no. I walked straight to my room.
- 1:14:19Never came out because I knew you're going to cook some tuna.
- 1:14:21Well, first of all, I don't cook it.
- 1:14:22It's all cold, but yeah. Oh, but like, you heat it up and
- 1:14:25all that. Like what?
- 1:14:28I don't heat up tuna. You don't heat up tuna.
- 1:14:30Yes, he do. No.
- 1:14:31Yes. Yes.
- 1:14:32Tuna sandwiches are cold. You've heated up tuna before, I
- 1:14:36swear. No, I've had fish shrimp I've
- 1:14:41never had. I don't tuna.
- 1:14:44I. Don't know what I'm thinking
- 1:14:46then. You know tuna?
- 1:14:47What? I'm going to cook it for us.
- 1:14:50We cook it. I remember you.
- 1:14:51Yeah. Like you.
- 1:14:52Heat it up for you. I just make it cold as a cold
- 1:14:54sandwich. Mayo, lemon pepper, throw some
- 1:14:58lettuce in there and I'm good. Anyway, neither here nor there,
- 1:15:04going back to bed, he gets on the phone and talks Ally at
- 1:15:09work. First off, shouldn't be using
- 1:15:11personal phone network, Can we agree?
- 1:15:13Well, it depends where he's at. Oh, at his desk?
- 1:15:17Yeah, that's right. As a desk I used to be at, I did
- 1:15:22my personal stuff. You're not supposed to use work
- 1:15:24stuff for personal stuff. And I get it, but I literally
- 1:15:27was. I had nothing to do.
- 1:15:29There was nothing. You know how they say you never
- 1:15:31want to tell the boss you have nothing to do because they'll
- 1:15:34give you, Yeah, they'll give you work.
- 1:15:36I, I, there was nothing I could do.
- 1:15:38There was literally nothing. So it's just saying they're
- 1:15:41like, I started doing some personal stuff and you know, the
- 1:15:44guy that I hate so much would come by and, and give me smack
- 1:15:46about it. One time I was talking to a
- 1:15:48parent and I was talking to her maybe 25 minutes and he text me.
- 1:15:52I think the conversation is over now.
- 1:15:54Dang. Elementary school also.
- 1:15:59Same guy and I'm like, yeah, I know my daughter's A10 parents.
- 1:16:03I'm, I'm yeah, I'm messing with her, but like.
- 1:16:08Yeah, it's like going to be all like.
- 1:16:12What should be if you have nothing going on?
- 1:16:15Let me talk to someone. There's going to be some videos
- 1:16:17no matter what. We got the story.
- 1:16:19You got to experiences, I mean personal.
- 1:16:22You were just right about when I screwed up and all the parents
- 1:16:25left me. They didn't file a complaint.
- 1:16:26Yeah, that's why I was building those relationships, you know?
- 1:16:30Anyway, I really hope everybody take somebody soon.
- 1:16:33A lot of time would go to hell. But using your phone at work,
- 1:16:38You know, like when I'm on the playground and I was supposed to
- 1:16:40be watching kids. Yeah.
- 1:16:45I, I, I sometimes I would text the other coaches, right, and
- 1:16:49say, Hey, look at this kid over here, right?
- 1:16:54And then one time the this guy comes over and goes, you're not
- 1:16:57supposed to be using your phone. And I said, I want you to read
- 1:17:02what I'm writing because this is work related.
- 1:17:04I'm texting the other person way over there to check on the kid
- 1:17:08that's next to him. They saw something happened.
- 1:17:12You want me to walk over there and wait for whatever's
- 1:17:15happening to finish before I get there?
- 1:17:18You want me to yell across the whole playground?
- 1:17:20Is that what you want me to do? Because I will.
- 1:17:23I was pissed, dude. God, he was awesome.
- 1:17:26That's so triggered. Anyway, can you say that using
- 1:17:31your personal phone at work is not a good thing, especially if
- 1:17:34you're making personal phone calls?
- 1:17:35Yeah, right. Phone calls.
- 1:17:37Yeah, OK. Are we using it like it's not
- 1:17:40interrupting anyone? I would say it's fine if you
- 1:17:43have no work to do, try to stay busy, But if there's nothing to
- 1:17:47do then can't really help it. If if I'm working at Walmart.
- 1:17:53There's got to be something to do sometimes.
- 1:17:57And I take a personal phone call and I'm in just in the aisle
- 1:18:00hiding, taking the call. And the manager walks by me.
- 1:18:04He's going to think I'm avoiding work.
- 1:18:07That's, that's his perception. Yeah.
- 1:18:09OK. Could could it be that my kids
- 1:18:11in the hospital, Right. Like I work from home.
- 1:18:17When you were in the hospital, I worked one day from the
- 1:18:19hospital. Oh, you did.
- 1:18:23OK, because I took a couple of days off, but I was like, now I
- 1:18:26just wanted to be with you. And, you know, I, I texted my
- 1:18:32boss and I said, are you OK with me working from the hospital?
- 1:18:35And she's like, yeah. And she says if something
- 1:18:38happens, you need more time, just let me know.
- 1:18:39You know, she's very, I love my boss.
- 1:18:42But was that a professional thing to do?
- 1:18:47Well, I mean, if I had a student come in and they're going to see
- 1:18:49this wall behind me. They're gonna be like, where you
- 1:18:52at? Yeah, the hospital.
- 1:18:53Yeah, just whatever. Is that appropriate?
- 1:18:56It's not, it's not not appropriate.
- 1:18:59Does that make? Sense, but it's not appropriate
- 1:19:01either. But it's not inappropriate
- 1:19:03either, right? So.
- 1:19:05Yeah, it's, it's a great line. It's just a.
- 1:19:07It's a great line. No, it's a wall.
- 1:19:10It's you got a place for personal reasons, but yet you
- 1:19:13still make time for work. That's what I would say.
- 1:19:17Again, I, you know, I, I'm your dad.
- 1:19:20I think differently. Ergo, you, you think differently
- 1:19:23because you know, I haven't been like that with you, I mean.
- 1:19:28What would you do if you saw your teacher at the hospital,
- 1:19:31but you're still doing class? Go ahead, go have fun.
- 1:19:35We'll we'll do class another day.
- 1:19:38The color code blue, I needed to come in giving you CPR and I'm
- 1:19:40like OK, class today we're going to cover.
- 1:19:44Well, then yeah, if if it's like for that.
- 1:19:47But if you know, it's like your kids doing better and you go
- 1:19:52back to work. Yeah, but you know, in the in
- 1:19:54the nurses, they come by every 2030 minutes.
- 1:19:57If I'm in class, that's going to interrupt me.
- 1:19:59It just there's potential for problems.
- 1:20:01Can we agree on that one? I mean.
- 1:20:02Yeah, but it's it's not a bad thing to do it, but wouldn't
- 1:20:07recommend it because you're going to get distracted, you're
- 1:20:11going to get upset, even though it was your choice to do class
- 1:20:14in the hospital. Right.
- 1:20:15So, you know, there's some things that you don't want to
- 1:20:17do. You know, the reality of it is,
- 1:20:23do I expect you to not return text messages?
- 1:20:27No. Is there an excessive amount of
- 1:20:30of text messages? Yes.
- 1:20:32But if you once in a while you get on the phone and return, I
- 1:20:35don't care. Just just.
- 1:20:36Do your job. That's life.
- 1:20:38Today we have a phone with us. In the old days, we had to wait
- 1:20:40till we got home and checked our voicemails and we'd have 15
- 1:20:43voicemails. If someone's trying to reach us,
- 1:20:44there's an emergency because we have a phone.
- 1:20:47No. You know, there's another thing.
- 1:20:50I don't know if you know this or not.
- 1:20:50Have you heard of a party line? No.
- 1:20:54Back when people couldn't afford a whole phone line for
- 1:20:56themselves, they had a party line.
- 1:20:58So like 5 houses would ring and he would pick up the phone.
- 1:21:04Oh, it's, it's for the guy down the street.
- 1:21:08So what would that do? I, I, I I've never had one so I
- 1:21:11don't know if they had a call back or what.
- 1:21:13So I'm like, out of all the five houses, someone rings and it's
- 1:21:18like, oh, it just hangs up and everybody else is like.
- 1:21:21As well. Yeah, I, I don't know how that
- 1:21:23would work, but yeah. So, you know, the old days we,
- 1:21:29we didn't have the phones like we do nowadays.
- 1:21:31We didn't have access to instant information.
- 1:21:34You know, the, the perfect example that I can think of is
- 1:21:36what happened with Charlie Kirk. Everyone know about it because
- 1:21:39of social media, right? In the old days we have to wait
- 1:21:45till we get home and watch the news at night.
- 1:21:48Or CNN started a 24 hour news station.
- 1:21:51So you could tune into CNN anytime and watch news anytime,
- 1:21:56right? Yeah.
- 1:21:59All that was before we had a little computer on our phone.
- 1:22:02I'll tell you what, let's go ahead and let's talk about those
- 1:22:05steps you can take so that you can avoid, not avoid, but handle
- 1:22:11these situations in a more professional manner.
- 1:22:14All right, let's get to today's heat map.
- 1:22:24Track your wins, not just time. The heat map will show you where
- 1:22:28to focus your efforts for the most impact.
- 1:22:31Be punctual. Being consistently on time shows
- 1:22:34deep respect for your colleagues, schedules and
- 1:22:36commitments. Observe dress codes.
- 1:22:40Observe the office dress code during your first month and err
- 1:22:43on the side of being slightly more professional.
- 1:22:46Respect shared spaces, Keep your personal workspace tidy and be
- 1:22:50hyper respectful of shared spaces by cleaning up
- 1:22:53immediately after yourself in the kitchen.
- 1:22:56Practice active listening, silence your mobile devices and
- 1:23:00avoid checking notifications during meetings to give your
- 1:23:02full attention. The map is drawn back to Murph
- 1:23:06Man for the next segment. All right, so be punctual.
- 1:23:10Being consistently on timed shows deep respect for your
- 1:23:12coworkers. Let's talk about that real
- 1:23:14quick. If I start work at 9:00, what
- 1:23:19time am I punching in at? 9.
- 1:23:22All right. And then 9:00 what should I do?
- 1:23:25Go straight to work. You should already be at work.
- 1:23:28Or should I walk by the time clock, punch in, then go put all
- 1:23:32my stuff in my locker and everything, then change or
- 1:23:35whatever I need to do and then go out to work?
- 1:23:37No. First you go get changed to
- 1:23:41whatever, put everything away, then you go clock in and start.
- 1:23:44Right. Yeah, OK.
- 1:23:49You could try to get some extra like cents if you wanted to
- 1:23:53before, but no it's not worth clocking in then going to break
- 1:23:59like to the break room to change and all that and then going to.
- 1:24:01Work right there was one time I was late to work for whatever
- 1:24:05reason. I, I, I was probably about 1520
- 1:24:08minutes late to work. And you know, I was supposed to
- 1:24:11have monitor the playground, right?
- 1:24:14I was so late I was rushing. I'm like, what can I say to be,
- 1:24:20I'm so sorry, but I was stuck in the bathroom with stomach
- 1:24:23issues. I go and I clock in and the guy
- 1:24:30that I don't like stops me. Why are you late?
- 1:24:32And I'm sorry, I had some stomach issues.
- 1:24:35I just, you know, try to get as fast as I could.
- 1:24:38I'm sorry, I'm late. My nurse here is actually goes.
- 1:24:41Then maybe you need to be at home and go see the doctor.
- 1:24:48And I said, you know what, you're right, I'm going to go
- 1:24:52see the doctor clocked on left, right.
- 1:24:57How many minutes do you think? That was probably 20 minutes
- 1:25:00late. I meant like you clocked.
- 1:25:02In Oh no, like the conversation I just had with you was how fast
- 1:25:05I clocked in and out. Oh, and I actually told them I
- 1:25:08said just don't clock me in, call me in sick so she can go
- 1:25:11delete it. So then I went to the doctor and
- 1:25:15I told him I've been having stomach issues and they gave me
- 1:25:17some medications and I went back and I gave him the note that I
- 1:25:20was at the doctor. She was like, well, the doctor
- 1:25:25says you you can stay home for two or three days, so why are
- 1:25:29you here? And I'm like because.
- 1:25:30I want to work. Because I want to work.
- 1:25:31And they're like, well, if you're sick, we don't want you
- 1:25:34contagious. And she sent me home again.
- 1:25:37I was just like, I'm not sick. I was just late, so I ended up
- 1:25:44having to use three days of my vacation time.
- 1:25:46Go to the doctor for fake everything right?
- 1:25:52Could have came up with a better reasoning, dude.
- 1:25:55Could have came up with a better reasoning.
- 1:25:58Jesus. Now, has there been times where
- 1:26:01I've been sick at work? Yes.
- 1:26:02OK. Wait like contagious sick or
- 1:26:06just like I don't feel good? Well, let me tell you, I I love
- 1:26:12this nurse, by the way, OK, There was one time in December
- 1:26:19that I had a, a very bad respiratory disease.
- 1:26:23I was coughing up a storm. I remember.
- 1:26:27And this is before COVID. The December before COVID hit,
- 1:26:31it wasn't in the United States yet.
- 1:26:34OK, No. What?
- 1:26:36No. No, I'm like, I agree.
- 1:26:37I'm like, yeah, no, it wasn't. I had COVID.
- 1:26:42I can tell you right now I had COVID, OK?
- 1:26:47I know I had COVID. How it wasn't diagnosed.
- 1:26:53The different strands that were in the air.
- 1:26:55But. OK, I think I had got one of
- 1:26:57those strands before they got officially recognized in the
- 1:26:59United States. But it was in China.
- 1:27:01Yeah, but people were traveling and that's how they traveled,
- 1:27:04exposed to the whole world. But anyway, I, I was so sick,
- 1:27:09dude. She tells me you need to go to
- 1:27:11the doctor. She says either you go to the
- 1:27:15doctor right now or we call the ambulance for you.
- 1:27:23And I'm like, OK, so I go to the doctor and I had flu, A&B, very
- 1:27:35sick, contagious. And Jesus, I, I just had a
- 1:27:40cough. In my opinion, I wasn't like
- 1:27:42feeling sick or nothing. I just had a cough.
- 1:27:43But it was a really, really bad cough.
- 1:27:46And yeah, so anyway, sometimes not going to work is the best
- 1:27:53professional thing you can do because if you go, you get sick,
- 1:27:57you pass it on to everybody. And it turns out I did get a
- 1:27:59bunch of people. Where did I get?
- 1:28:05I don't know. No, because they did catch pay
- 1:28:08zero and kept them there. No, Yes.
- 1:28:12No, yes. OK, I don't want to get
- 1:28:17sidetracked but. We don't have to anyways.
- 1:28:21Can you come back to patient zero if we're done with this?
- 1:28:23We'll talk about it later, all right?
- 1:28:25We'll talk about it after the show.
- 1:28:28In Christmas, when we get sick, do you remember?
- 1:28:31This Christmas. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:28:32This Christmas? Yeah, it was.
- 1:28:36That was maybe when I was sick years ago.
- 1:28:43I think I was probably about 3 or 4 times as sick as I was this
- 1:28:47past Christmas. What?
- 1:28:49Yeah, that's how sick I was. So give you an idea of how bad I
- 1:28:54was when I was at work. Jesus, I didn't.
- 1:28:56I didn't even think I felt that bad.
- 1:28:58OK. I just had the regular cold that
- 1:29:01was. No, this past Christmas, Connor,
- 1:29:04you were out for days. I had the cold.
- 1:29:09I don't want to give out personal information, but you
- 1:29:12were out really bad. I was sleepy, yeah.
- 1:29:16But you were sick, remember? I was coughing, that was it.
- 1:29:23I wasn't like nauseous. I wasn't thrown out, but I
- 1:29:26wasn't banging. You were 19 years old.
- 1:29:30Yeah. And you felt sick.
- 1:29:32You couldn't lay down in bed with me.
- 1:29:35I got a little kid. What happened?
- 1:29:36I want to try my stomach. Yeah.
- 1:29:40And my bed was hot, that's why. That's right.
- 1:29:43Yeah, because my bed was hot. Oh yeah.
- 1:29:46Fever and my bed was hot, so I went to your room with the
- 1:29:49fever. Because your bed is cold, you
- 1:29:52don't have a soft comforter like I do.
- 1:29:55A blanket. My point being this you were
- 1:29:57really sick. I wasn't, I was just cold, dude.
- 1:30:01I'm I'm just, I'm trying to cool off, OK?
- 1:30:03We were. Really sick.
- 1:30:05And it was on New Year's, dude, New Year's Eve.
- 1:30:08Yes it was. Anyway, yeah it was horrible but
- 1:30:12the point being is I still was sicker before COVID.
- 1:30:16Yeah, I think I was more sick with COVID.
- 1:30:18Yeah, if. If you're that sick, don't go to
- 1:30:20work. I know we don't want to use days
- 1:30:22but but it. Dude, your personal life matters
- 1:30:25more than your work. Let me ask you a question.
- 1:30:27If I went to the movie theater and I was sick like that, should
- 1:30:33I have gone to work? No, because A.
- 1:30:35Lot of popcorn, you got food. A lot of other people would have
- 1:30:38gotten sick, not just my coworkers, but I mean, imagine.
- 1:30:40All the Evie cough on the seeds you were going to get the Evie
- 1:30:43cough on the. Just imagine how bad that could
- 1:30:45be. So working at Walmart, OK.
- 1:30:47Working from home. Can I kind of work if I'm sick?
- 1:30:49Yes. All right.
- 1:30:50But yeah, All right. Observe dress codes.
- 1:30:52Observe the office dress code during your first month and earn
- 1:30:56the sight of being slightly more professional.
- 1:31:00OK, no jeans, no tennis shoes. Oh yeah, you wear shirts with
- 1:31:07collars, ties if you can. Not polo shirts, but enough
- 1:31:12shirt. You know you got to dress a
- 1:31:14certain way until someone says something like.
- 1:31:19You can wear whatever. You can wear whatever you know.
- 1:31:21Or wear uniform or something. Yeah, I mean the first day I
- 1:31:26would say. Respect those shared spaces,
- 1:31:28keep your personal workspace tidy and hyper respectful of
- 1:31:31shared spaces such as the communal kitchen and keep
- 1:31:35everything clean, OK. And not to bring fish.
- 1:31:39And don't bring fish. Yeah, and last but not least is
- 1:31:42practice active listening. Silence your mobile devices and
- 1:31:47avoid checking notifications during meetings to give your
- 1:31:51full attention. Now I will tell you one of my
- 1:31:54things is I I end up on the phone a lot during meetings and
- 1:31:57I'm playing games and my boss didn't like it and she called me
- 1:32:01out and I said I'm sorry. I said if I stay here and I'm
- 1:32:05listening to you and doing nothing.
- 1:32:07I'm not. I'm not listening.
- 1:32:09I'm doing something else. I'm listening.
- 1:32:11Yeah, because you're actively using your brain.
- 1:32:14And I said, do me a favor and ask me anything.
- 1:32:18This is just a fact of life. I listened better.
- 1:32:22Yeah. And till then I want to bring it
- 1:32:26on sound and like a. Little like gay boy.
- 1:32:30Yeah, nothing like that, right. But yeah, so it's those things
- 1:32:35that, you know, is, is the rudest thing when it's the
- 1:32:46table, when they're on the phone and you're not.
- 1:32:49Now, you and I do this a lot. We go out to eat and you'll be
- 1:32:54on your phone or I'm on my phone or we're both on the phone.
- 1:32:56And I've actually had people tell me like.
- 1:32:59What? What's going on?
- 1:33:01Here why don't you, you guys are so disrespectful like.
- 1:33:04We're like the quietest people in the restaurant because
- 1:33:06they're always on the phone, because they're like, someone's
- 1:33:08eating and I'm on the phone. Well, like, I'm eating your
- 1:33:11phone. Yeah.
- 1:33:12Both on the phone and eating or on the phone?
- 1:33:14People have seen that said. Why?
- 1:33:16Because like, you don't talk to each other.
- 1:33:19I'm like, no, we actually talked to each other too much that we
- 1:33:21had nothing to say. Yeah, we talked on the car right
- 1:33:24there. Yeah, we're actually able to sit
- 1:33:25down and play our games now. Yeah, I know.
- 1:33:27I'm like, this is the only time I could, like, play games and
- 1:33:30eat and like, you know, do my stuff.
- 1:33:32Yeah, you know, in the car. Then I still play games.
- 1:33:35But I mean, I still listen and all that.
- 1:33:38All right, well, I'll tell you what, let's take one quick break
- 1:33:41in and we'll back and we'll talk about places you can get burned
- 1:33:45in our in, I mean in the pitfalls that you can have and
- 1:33:48where you can get burned. So right back.
- 1:33:53Sounds good. You're going to rest play.
- 1:33:57I'm trying. All right, welcome back.
- 1:38:22Let's jump into those pitfalls that we'll have in our Simon
- 1:38:25called Where are you going to get burned?
- 1:38:32Facts, not feelings. Let's talk about where you'll
- 1:38:36get burned. These are some common pitfalls.
- 1:38:39Being too casual, too quickly. Observe the office culture
- 1:38:43before diving in. It is a professional
- 1:38:45environment, not a college dorm or home lounge.
- 1:38:49Ignoring social cues. Pay attention to body language,
- 1:38:52volume levels and team tone to avoid interrupting deep work
- 1:38:56blocks. Oversharing personal details.
- 1:38:59Maintain professional boundaries.
- 1:39:02You can be friendly and warm without being over familiar.
- 1:39:05Danger zone identified. Back to Murph, man for the
- 1:39:09warning all. Right.
- 1:39:11So being too casual too quickly, what did I tell you?
- 1:39:15Don't be yourself for the first couple of weeks.
- 1:39:18Yeah, observe, mirror, watch, and then slowly let yourself
- 1:39:26out. Ignore social cues.
- 1:39:28Pay attention to body language and volume levels and team tone
- 1:39:31to avoid interrupting deep work blocks.
- 1:39:37OK, you got to be aware of what people are doing.
- 1:39:45Are they socializing or are they working?
- 1:39:49Are they talking about something that you're interrupting?
- 1:39:52That could wait. All right, be you got to be
- 1:39:56really aware of all that stuff and over shattering personal
- 1:40:01details, oversharing, overshadowing, oversharing
- 1:40:04personal details. Maintain professional boundaries
- 1:40:06and careful what you share with people because I will tell you,
- 1:40:10you can give up a lot of information too quickly before
- 1:40:13people know it, like for example your very first Friday on the
- 1:40:16job. Who wants to go get drunk with
- 1:40:18me tonight? Yeah, you don't want to do that
- 1:40:20kind of stuff, right? If if you're asking people the
- 1:40:281st to go job A. So how can I get around doing
- 1:40:33this and then be like, you got to do it, you know, doesn't mean
- 1:40:40that it can't be done. It's just they're not going to
- 1:40:42tell you, yeah, you're new, you can do whatever you want, right?
- 1:40:45So just be careful with all this stuff.
- 1:40:47Don't be yourself too much, don't be sharing too much
- 1:40:49information. It's it's one of those things
- 1:40:50where, you know, just it varies, right?
- 1:40:54All right. So let's talk about ways we can
- 1:40:57prevent that in our segment called the heat Shields.
- 1:41:06The prep is the protection. Here are your heat Shields, the
- 1:41:11situational mirror. Deploy this shield by
- 1:41:15intentionally mirroring the behavior, tone, and punctuality
- 1:41:19of the most respected person in the room.
- 1:41:22Corporate culture guides read essential workplace reading like
- 1:41:26unwritten rules of the workplace to demystify complex corporate
- 1:41:30expectations. Digital tone checkers use
- 1:41:34communication tools like Grammarly's Tone detector to
- 1:41:37audit internal emails and messages before pressing send.
- 1:41:41The Shields are up, Murph man, What's next?
- 1:41:45All right, so the situational mirror we've been talking about,
- 1:41:49watch and observe and follow. All right.
- 1:41:52Yeah. Corporate culture guides like
- 1:41:55The Unwritten Rules of the Workplace.
- 1:41:57You definitely want to read that because there are some things
- 1:42:01you have to think about, like having your ringtone silent,
- 1:42:08right? Having your computer screensaver
- 1:42:12be appropriate, you know, and I don't mean like, you know,
- 1:42:14appropriate, like nudity. I mean, like, have it pop up as
- 1:42:17Bud Light, you know? Yeah.
- 1:42:19Or something like, you know what I mean?
- 1:42:22It's not a big deal. But again, you don't know what
- 1:42:25the rules are at work and how they're going to treat you.
- 1:42:26So you want to be very careful how you present yourself.
- 1:42:29And the digital tone checkers. I've talked to this about this
- 1:42:31before. Writing an e-mail, checking it
- 1:42:34with Grammarly. Make sure it's more
- 1:42:35professional. Word has that option as well.
- 1:42:38I use Gemini, you know, things of that nature, right?
- 1:42:42Those heat Shields are something that we all look at that will
- 1:42:45help you avoid those pitfalls. OK, because we're not perfect
- 1:42:54and we're all going to have issues in the new job.
- 1:42:58I, I told you about that one job I had where the first day of
- 1:43:00work, I had to miss it because I was in called to, I was
- 1:43:03subpoenaed to go to court And her response was this is going
- 1:43:06to happen a lot. And I just really said, I, I, I
- 1:43:09don't know, I, if I get subpoenaed, I get subpoenaed.
- 1:43:13How am I supposed to stop that? Right?
- 1:43:16She's, but you're not working there anymore.
- 1:43:20And I said, you're right, someone else needs to handle the
- 1:43:23case. But I already had this court
- 1:43:26date scheduled before you offered me the job.
- 1:43:29And I tried to get out of it, but I couldn't.
- 1:43:31So they had to subpoena me and I had to go.
- 1:43:33So I don't think it's going to happen anymore, but I don't
- 1:43:37know. She didn't like it.
- 1:43:41I'm like. Well, too bad.
- 1:43:43Well, yeah, but I understand that it looked bad.
- 1:43:46But it's not my fault, right? Yeah.
- 1:43:48You couldn't control it. I mean you tried telling them.
- 1:43:51Yeah. But they're like, no, we're
- 1:43:53going to subpoena you. You're going to have to come.
- 1:43:55Right. And the reality of it was I
- 1:43:59needed to be there and I asked to be subpoenaed.
- 1:44:02That was really funny. When I got subpoenaed, they show
- 1:44:04up in my in laws house. That's where I lived.
- 1:44:12She opened the door to sheriff's deputy asking for me.
- 1:44:16And she says 1 moment close the door and she yells, the police
- 1:44:22are here for you, Sean. And I said, OK, I knew what it
- 1:44:26was right? And I said here, I I said, where
- 1:44:30do I sign? He was here.
- 1:44:31All right, thank you. And he goes, you're not even
- 1:44:33going to ask me what I said no, I've been expecting this, this
- 1:44:36so I know what's happening. I said, oh, OK, Because the way
- 1:44:39she answered the door, I was like, oh, this is not going to
- 1:44:41go good, you know? But yeah, I, I needed to be in
- 1:44:49court. And it was funny because in that
- 1:44:52court, the, the judge was asking me questions.
- 1:44:56I mean, the lawyer was asking me questions over and over, trying
- 1:44:58to get me to trip up my story. And the judge said he's going to
- 1:45:03answer to you. You already know where we are
- 1:45:05with this. Like just drop it in other
- 1:45:08words, saying like, I'm I'm going to roll against you
- 1:45:10already, right. So I needed to be there to tell
- 1:45:14the judge a story. If I hadn't been there, could
- 1:45:15have got a different story. But the judge was like, yeah,
- 1:45:17he's totally whatever, whatever, whatever.
- 1:45:23But yeah, so workplace norms are, are one of those things
- 1:45:25that you really don't know what it is.
- 1:45:27You can research them, but you just got to observe your Co
- 1:45:29worker. That's the best thing you can
- 1:45:30do. All right, let's talk about
- 1:45:33those reflective questions and let's reflect back on today's
- 1:45:35episode, Conor in our segment called the Afterburn.
- 1:45:43Reflect on your value in today's Afterburn.
- 1:45:46Here are some questions for you to reflect on.
- 1:45:49What are the primary unwritten rules and norms of my current
- 1:45:53workplace? How can I actively show more
- 1:45:56respect for my colleagues, time, focus, and shared space?
- 1:46:01What professional first impression am I making with my
- 1:46:04daily conduct and communication? Who's professional conduct in my
- 1:46:09organization is worth observing and mirroring?
- 1:46:15All right. Situation mirror I've been
- 1:46:17talking about. I'm not going to go over that
- 1:46:19again, but the culprit. Thank you.
- 1:46:26So what are those primary unwritten rules?
- 1:46:28We talked about that already, but how can the activity show
- 1:46:32more respect for your colleagues?
- 1:46:34Time focused and shared space? Think about that real quick.
- 1:46:39Actively thinking, what can I do to help my team?
- 1:46:46What can I do right now to help my team?
- 1:46:50You may not know what your job is, but what can I do right?
- 1:46:54OK, what professional first impression am I making now?
- 1:46:58I'm going to ask you a question. When does that first impression
- 1:47:02start? On your resume I would say.
- 1:47:11Wow, that's, I like that answer. That's not what I was going to
- 1:47:16say, but I like that answer. I was going to say in the
- 1:47:19interview, but it starts in the lobby while waiting for your
- 1:47:22interview. But yeah, your resume says a lot
- 1:47:24about you, right? Yeah, that's already in first
- 1:47:26impression. I'm going to give you props in
- 1:47:27that one. OK?
- 1:47:29Yeah. That that is the first
- 1:47:30impression someone reads resume. And if it's all like in on pink
- 1:47:34paper with flowers and roses, what?
- 1:47:37Maybe I'm the most professional person, right?
- 1:47:39Yeah. If I'm a guy, it's a little too
- 1:47:44girly for me. I was going to say.
- 1:47:46A guy with flowers on his. Yeah, you know, OK, whatever.
- 1:47:49Is his girlfriend showing him love?
- 1:47:51Yeah. Good luck on your job, babe.
- 1:47:53I can see right resume is an issue, but with me I was going
- 1:47:59to what I was going to say was the interview starts.
- 1:48:01I mean, the first impression starts off during your waiting
- 1:48:05for that first interview. When you go up to the employee
- 1:48:07and be like, I'm here for the interview, OK, Wait in the lobby
- 1:48:09or something, Yeah. Where I used to work at this
- 1:48:12program with adults who had been diagnosed with mental
- 1:48:17retardation and autism, you have to be very understanding of them
- 1:48:22and everything. So when my boss would too, I
- 1:48:26laugh about it because they did it to me.
- 1:48:28And it was funny what I did. But how they treat the clients
- 1:48:34that we have, the consumers, right.
- 1:48:37It's one big lobby. There's a new person in the
- 1:48:40room. They walk over and they're like,
- 1:48:41who are you? How can I help you?
- 1:48:42Are you going to work here? Oh, cool.
- 1:48:44You know, or they'd be like, what?
- 1:48:46Whatever. And he said, I don't have a
- 1:48:47comment with you. Yeah, she'd be watching you
- 1:48:53through the blinds to see your reaction, and she'd make you
- 1:48:56wait for, like, 5 to 10 minutes, just observing you the whole
- 1:49:00time, how you treated people. Again, we go back to character.
- 1:49:03How you were. Yeah.
- 1:49:06When I went in, I started having a conversation with the kid.
- 1:49:09All right? Like, she actually told me,
- 1:49:13like, I let you go like another 15 minutes, like, probably the
- 1:49:17longest I've ever because I didn't.
- 1:49:18I felt bad interrupting you, but when I went to go work at the
- 1:49:23runaway shelter, I went for my interview and I sat down and I'm
- 1:49:27sitting there and the secretary from you, right?
- 1:49:32And I, I hear sound like, like the, you know, the grunt, like
- 1:49:36what happened? She goes, oh, I, I'm having
- 1:49:39problems with this. I said, well, what, what's
- 1:49:40happening? And I said, let me help you.
- 1:49:44And she tells me I'm having trouble.
- 1:49:46I said, here's what you want to do This this this, this this it
- 1:49:50fixed it. I said cool and I just sat back
- 1:49:54down and and she was like, I thank you for your help us
- 1:49:59you're welcome. I, I was not going to get into a
- 1:50:04conversation with her, right, because I didn't want to work
- 1:50:10there. And I told you that like I got
- 1:50:12fired next door. It was just a basic interview.
- 1:50:15I didn't want to work there. I honestly didn't want to work
- 1:50:16there. So I didn't care about making.
- 1:50:17What even was it for? The runway shelter, the
- 1:50:20counseling position, the one that got and worked there for 16
- 1:50:23years and loved. But the point being that I was
- 1:50:28fired from next door and I just didn't hear you because why not?
- 1:50:33The AFF in the experience. I really wasn't thinking I was
- 1:50:36going to work there. Nothing.
- 1:50:37Yeah. And I go into the job interview
- 1:50:40and my boss says, So what makes you want to work here?
- 1:50:42And I said, I don't think the guy got fired next door.
- 1:50:45And there was a lot of genuineness in that and joking.
- 1:50:51Yeah. So I set the tone for the
- 1:50:52meeting. And then I she says, so why'd
- 1:50:56you come for the interview? And my response wasn't you're
- 1:50:57going to hate this. My cheese is moving.
- 1:51:03Always. Your cheese is moving, huh?
- 1:51:05No matter where we are. Actually that that's the first
- 1:51:09time I read the the story. OK, that's the first time I read
- 1:51:12the story. For a place you didn't even want
- 1:51:14to work at. Right.
- 1:51:15I had heard it that weekend. I said, I have a job interview
- 1:51:18Monday working with kids, and it was the funniest thing.
- 1:51:23And she says, oh, you like, who moved my cheese?
- 1:51:25And I said, yeah, And just what what do you like about it?
- 1:51:28I started talking about it. The interview wasn't about my
- 1:51:30skills 'cause I, she knew I had the skills.
- 1:51:33It was like, do I like this guy, Don't want to work with him?
- 1:51:36And then like after about 3 or 4 months, we were talking, you
- 1:51:40know, how am I doing and everything.
- 1:51:41And she tells me, you know, I really thought you wouldn't last
- 1:51:43this long. You were just like a temporary
- 1:51:45hire hoping you would quit. And then I could hire someone
- 1:51:49that really had the experience working with kids, she says.
- 1:51:53But I think I made a good hire. I said.
- 1:51:54I think you did too. You should have asked her how
- 1:51:57many people it took. No, she'd do about 8 to 10
- 1:52:02interviews. I, I learned that over the
- 1:52:04years, you know, she always had eight to 10 people she didn't
- 1:52:06interview. There was one time she saw one
- 1:52:09resume. She's like, this is going to be
- 1:52:10the person I want to hire. And she still did 8 to 10
- 1:52:14interviews. And I said, are you giving those
- 1:52:18other 7 to 10 people a fair shot?
- 1:52:22And she's the I am shot. I said, OK, that guy did not get
- 1:52:27hired. Why?
- 1:52:30Because he didn't interview. Well, now we imagine she would
- 1:52:34have only interviewed him, right?
- 1:52:39Yeah. So you always want to do a few
- 1:52:41more interviews. All right, So I want to talk
- 1:52:48about this real quick, our digital inferno.
- 1:52:52So we're going to talk about this technology.
- 1:52:59Your Slack message is your reputation.
- 1:53:02Digital communication is the new shared office space.
- 1:53:06Communication channels. Never use personal abbreviations
- 1:53:10or excessive emojis in professional Slack or e-mail
- 1:53:13channels. Tone Detectors.
- 1:53:16Use AI tools like Grammarly's Tone detector to check that your
- 1:53:20digital messages sound clear, professional, and respectful.
- 1:53:24Notification Management. Utilize communication settings
- 1:53:27like turning off notifications during meetings to show respect
- 1:53:31for others. Focus recipient Verification
- 1:53:35Always check the recipients of emails or chats before sending
- 1:53:38to avoid accidentally oversharing personal information
- 1:53:41with the wrong group. The Inferno is digital.
- 1:53:45Back to Murph Man to talk about the segment.
- 1:53:49All right, everything we've been talking about.
- 1:53:54Use Grammarly. Use Gemini.
- 1:53:56Use professional writing software.
- 1:54:00Use those don't detectors. Make sure you're writing
- 1:54:02appropriateness notification management.
- 1:54:05Don't have your messages on loud, have it on on silent,
- 1:54:09right? Or just mute them all.
- 1:54:10Mute them all and then you'll see it when you go to break,
- 1:54:13right? That's what I would do.
- 1:54:14And request verification, recipient verification.
- 1:54:18You want to be aware of who you're sending stuff to because
- 1:54:23you want to make sure you get the right person, right?
- 1:54:24Yes, makes sense. So let's just get to today's
- 1:54:29final burn, all right? All right.
- 1:54:33No work. OK, what does that mean?
- 1:54:39Well, the final take is professionalism is just respect
- 1:54:45in the work outfit. Be mindful, be present and don't
- 1:54:49be the reason someone needs noise cancelling headphones.
- 1:54:53True, you like that. I like that you don't want them
- 1:54:57to join you out. There's one of my Co workers I
- 1:54:59didn't like and I mean I liked them, but he was annoying and he
- 1:55:03had ticks and he'd get, he'd make noises and it was really
- 1:55:06weird. And I put that all aside because
- 1:55:10I, I, I knew it wasn't him doing it right.
- 1:55:13It didn't get annoying like I hated that.
- 1:55:16It just was, I was just like, hope this guy can get some help.
- 1:55:20So it was funny because after he left the job, we were talking
- 1:55:25about him and I said, I'm so glad he's no longer making those
- 1:55:29noises. And then it was like, God,
- 1:55:32that's rude. I'm like, it was annoying a
- 1:55:34little bit. It was annoying.
- 1:55:36I said, you know, he had ticks. So I didn't like say anything.
- 1:55:39But he can't control it. Well, that's my point.
- 1:55:41Paid on him for it. That's my point, he can't
- 1:55:46control it. So I told him go get some help,
- 1:55:48get some medication for your tourettes.
- 1:55:52You don't just get medication. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:55:53Not. Not if it's like severe.
- 1:55:56But you can get medication anyway.
- 1:55:58Still wouldn't. Help.
- 1:55:59Anyway, I didn't hold it against them and I never say anything to
- 1:56:04him. But inside out.
- 1:56:06Yeah. All right, so that's it for
- 1:56:09today, Connor. What do you think?
- 1:56:11I think so too. Today was a great episode.
